True Irish fare, often Irish music and always great service. they know the "right" way to pour your Guiness and the decor is true Irish pub. Like any good Irish pub, it's all ages but during the school year, it is mostly UofA students. Sunday nights there is a jam session with local players singing and playing Irish folk music. The food here is actually great. Not just great for Tucson, but really really good. Burgers, Fish, Irish Stew, salads and big portions. Upstairs is more of a bar w/tvs/sports and downstairs old country feel small room with tables (and tvs of course). We have been here many times and it has never disappointed. If you can't snag a street spot, try the garage on 1st across from the hotel or on w/e you can park kitty corner at the U of A building lot for free. (stickers req'd during week).

I signed up for Yelp just so I could warn people about this place. Whoever owns this place needs to clean house and get some new staff. I understand this is a college bar and I am sure they get their fair share of drunk frat guys but that doesn't give them the right to treat people the way they do. I'll start with the d-bag bouncer; he was the typical tool who has never had any sort of authority in his life, thus, once he does have some 'authority', he abuses it. I hadn't been drinking before I got there yet he demanded I 'stop swaying'. He then proceeded to act like he was doing me a favor by letting me in this POS bar. Apparently, one of the gimmicks this place uses to trick people into going there are the 'Harry Potter' shot. They put some cinnamon in there or something and it lights on fire. My cousin was intrigued so she ordered a round for everyone. One of the members had some weird allergies, so my cousin asked what was in the shots. This apparently is frowned upon at this place. The bartender acted as if she had called his mother a whore. My cousin, who was confused and drunk, again asked him the question. The bartender immediately grabbed d-bag bouncer and had her kicked out FOR ASKING WHAT WAS IN THE SHOTS! A couple of us still had full beers so we went out on the patio to finish them so we could hang out with my cousin who had been kicked out. I proceeded to chug my beer, then I went on the other side of the fence. One person, who was still inside of the fence was drinking slow so i reached over the fence and drank some of it. D-bag bouncer was not happy. I now realize this was against the law, however, he then proceeded to kick the whole group out, even though everyone still had full drinks. He then proceeded to talk sh*t as we walked away. I was wondering why this bar was empty while every other bar in town was packed....now I know. I went to college here and I have seen bars come and go in this particular location. I remember when it used to be Phat Tuesdays, another crappy chain bar. With the type of customer service they displayed last night, I'll be surprised if this place is still here next time I am in town. If it is, I will certainly take my business elsewhere.

They usually have some good drink specials, e.g. $2 Blue Moon, but everything else is ridiculously overpriced - as in drinks that cost more than my entree. As for the food - same problem. I have had the boxtys and the burgers. None of it was worth the $10+ I was charged. The best thing about the place is that the tater tots are delicious. Unfortunately they are also $5.50. Seriously. Over $5.00 for a side of fried potatoes. Maybe they import them from Ireland and there's another potato famine I don't know about.

They pour the best Guinness in Tucson! They get it down to a science. The Bartenders do a great job at getting your drinks to you, and their specials are fantastic. Love going to the Dub!

Don't always have the best specials, but the food is decent and so is the atmosphere. Their chicken strips appetizer is HUGE for an appetizer - I always have it as a meal and usually even have some leftover! Their spicy potatoes are amazing, and their hot wings are delicious, too! Service is sometimes spotty, so I tend to sit at the bar and it's great!

Food was good, but we were disappointed in two things, they discontinued the Cherry cider and the Apple cider just isn't as good, and they discontinued their desserts. The service was competent but lack luster. The place was practically empty which probably has to do with the construction on university, maybe the rain, but since the management change, the place just isn't the same. The food was good though. And the live music (thanks so much for showing up) lovely.

Seahawks Bar! I was in town during a Seahawks playoff game and was greeted by about 100+ Seahawks fan! Definitely not a place for non-Seahawk fans on football days. The bar was fully stocked and the bartenders were very knowledgeable and fast. Really appreciated the fire show! The food was pretty much pub food and the only questionable item ordered was the fries with nasty curry sauce. Everything else was good. Looks like a fund place filled with fun people.

This bar has a great feel to it and old Irish ambiance. I used to stop in fairly often and enjoy a Guinness and Shepard's Pie. Over the last couple of years, this bar has slipped. The music selection used to be a bit obscure, sat well with the bar, and was inviting. Now its the same trendy pop garbage every other bar plays. The menu has been cut down and stripped of anything Irish. It's plain "sports bar" food now. The worst of it...if you order a pint, avoid the Guinness unless you like a lot of head on your brew. (check latest photos) I'm not sure what the Dubliner's management is thinking, but hopefully that will change. I would like to return but there is currently no reason to.

I have not been a regular at Auld Dubliner, but I have been there a few times as of late for trivia nights -- Pub Quiz. The Wednesday evening event, which starts at 8 p.m., draws a humorous fun-loving audience of geeky, nerdy, handsome types. Fun stuff! I like the space. It's pretty wide open, in the fashion of an Irish pub. You don't have to worry about it being crammed -- lest there is a Wildcat game or it is St. Patrick's Day. Then you're screwed. Service is friendly and reliable. And even though the place is a hot spot for beer drinkers, than have a very brief wine list. Not selective at all -- seriously, I think they offer one red and one white. But thank goodness for us non-beer drinkers who, for some odd reason, keep droves of friends who love their beer. Sadly, the menu just shrunk. No more bangers and mash! But they still have the beloved curry fries, fried zucchini, burgers, tater tots and likely the most popular item -- the Harry Potter shot.

Ok so the ambiance is nice; however, when I think of an Irish bar I expect traditional dishes from Ireland. You know, just like grandma used to make? Unfortunately, there are none although the menu indicates otherwise. WTH? Best thing about this pub is the nice pint of Guinness. Mmmmmm

It's best described as a college bar largely promoting copious quantities of American brews at affordable prices for students... it certainly bears scant resemblance to an actual Irish pub. The decor is early American youth hostel, designed to accommodate as many students as can possibly be squeezed through the door. Seating is largely rustic narrow tables flanked by wooden bar stools. The bar looks pretty impressive though, with bottles and bottles of hard liquor against a mirrored backboard. Aside from the Bushmills however, you'd be hard-pressed to find even a half-dozen bottles of Irish whisky. My friend and I ordered two pints of Guinness, which to our dismay were delivered to our table a mere two minutes later. While prompt service might otherwise be considered a plus, it's fairly common knowledge that Guinness is a two-part pour and therefore rarely shows up on your table for less than five minutes. But does it really make a difference? In this case, the Guinness was not only a tad flat, but tasted bitter as well - I just couldn't tell whether it was due to the pour or perhaps a keg that was allowed to overheat in the Arizona sun, or maybe just old, stale brew. Don't get me wrong, the Guinness wasn't "bad", just a bit off. It was certainly good enough that we wound up ordering a second round. The food on the other hand, was quite decent. We both ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and while not extraordinary was nonetheless both tasty and filling. Likewise, the regular fries were good but nothing more. The fries with ranch dressing and bacon, on the other hand, were fantastic. Service was also good and I would rate it at three stars. As far as value goes, it seemed a bit steep for a college bar. Not including tip, the bill for our two sandwiches and four pints came to $54.

Disappointed- I live in Phoenix but travel frequently to Tucson. When I can get downtown I always go to the Dubliner, even if it's just to get take out. One of the unique menu items that I loved was an appetizer of baby cooked potatoes covered with buffalo sauce and Gorgonzola cheese. I would often get a double order as my meal. No longer available!?!? Yesterday I was at the Dubliner and the menu has been cut down significantly. The traditional Irish foods such as Shepards Pie and potato leek soup are gone. ???? It would appear the owners are trying to scare away business. The new menu is certainly not worth my patronage any longer.

This place is known for their Harry potter shots, but honestly those taste like nothing and are just an expensive "party trick".. This bar does have a beautiful vintage feel to it though and it's back bar is awesome with their little bar game area!

The Auld Dubliner is one of my favorite places in town. They are home for our group of Seattle Seahawks fans and have graciously and enthusiastically hosted us for games and celebration. the staff is absolutely the best Tucson has to offer. The manager, Mitch is accommodating and friendly. He makes sure to provide us with a wonderful base of operations. The service staff that is on duty for NFL games, Hayley, Haley, formerly Tabby(we'll miss you!), and now Nicole, are fantastic. They make me and the others feel at home and not only welcome, but wanted. They are the main reason I continue to return. The bartenders are fast, skilled and friendly. Your glass of ambrosia won't stay empty long. If you want something really fun, ask for a "Harry Potter Shot"! The kitchen staff is also skilled and quick. They put out a steady supply of tasty food whether you're in the mood for something traditional like corned beef and cabbage or just want some of their AMAZING loaded tater tots (Try some. Do this now.) To sum up, if you want to be treated great, enjoy good food and drinks without spending a ton of money, and spend some time in a great feeling environment, go to the Dub at the corner of Euclid and University. Just make sure you treat the staff well. They deserve it. Rating the noise level as very loud because I go for Seahawks games and that's kind of our thing! When it's not game time, you can expect to have a nice conversation over dinner.

Pretty neat spot that is what you'd picture for a typical Irish or English bar. I haven't tried the food yet. Tried the Harry Potter shot - its a gimmick.. sticky and no alcohol in it. But its fun to watch them make it. :) Otherwise, neat little bar.

Wow. So I have been coming here for the "night" crowd for a while. But never really got much in the way of food until recently. I had the blackened chicken burger and it was outstanding. A bit salty, but lots of flavor and it was much better than I was anticipating it being. It came with a side of fries that literally took up 3/4 of the plate - very generous and too much for me to even finish! The only problem I have with coming here is that they are really lacking in beer "specials" - drinks here are a bit overpriced in my opinion. Not expensive, but nothing to really draw you in. I will for sure eat here again though.

I came here for more than a year to play Geeks Who Drink trivia. It was always a blast. The drinks are good, if a little too pricey, the food is good, even though the menu goes through subtle changes every few months, and the waitresses are usually fantastic. Stop by and ask Mitch to order more Iron Maiden Trooper beer!

  • C B.

Wow their food is pretty terrible, the shepherd's pie swims in grease and mushy. The only really good thing about it is the Harry Potter shot but it is expensive and really not that hard core of a shot. They supposedly have the back open for dancing but I have never seen it open for dancing and the music they do play out front is pretty lame.

Was kind of disappointed with this place. Wasn't too busy but the service was slow. We went to get drinks but only stayed for one. Got the Kilkenny and at first it tasted great, the foam was delicious. But the beer was very flat and had no taste. Not sure if I'd be back.

Okay; for the nights I do remember going here and drink.... This is a nice, small place to go to if you are on University. On Friday and Saturday nights, it gets packed and people are getting wasted (like someone I know :D). Most of the time, this isn't the place you would expect a dance floor; but if someone would start it (one time my friends and I did because of Gangnam Style) it would be awesome!! I never went in the morning because usually I am in class and go elsewhere for food. I would like to try this place in the morning or lunch (if they are open) one of these days. They have this shot (because they like dealing with fire) called the HARRY POTTER shot; not quite sure what is in it but it's BLUE!! Essentially, the bartender torch the shots and it goes up a huge flame. If you buy it for your group of flames; they will worship you; I promise. Well, not really, but it is really cool. You should try it, you know you want to. If you are skeptical, just send me a message and I will go and order with you. So, I can say, "I told you so :P" Just kidding! Anyway, sometimes you will see me there with my friends, if you do just say "Hi" to me. Anyway, this is a cool place to be at on a week day night or weekend night!! It is almost or about the same amount of coolness as GentleBen's across the street. :D

This place USED to be amazing. We haven't been in a few years, went recently and were so disappointed. To begin with, the curry was brown and oily, and they didn't have any kind of cider. When the food arrived, it was practically inedible. The mashed potatoes were obviously instant, the Shepherd's Pie tasted like it came from a cafeteria and the corned beef in my husband's boxty had no "corning" seasoning on it. Everything tasted very bland. To their credit, they comp'd our meal without any grief.

One Word: Alcohol Two Words: College Bar Three Words: Harry Potter Shot! I'm not sure how many options there are in Tucson to go drinking, but it was a Friday night and I just had to see what the hype was about this Harry Potter Shot. It was gamenight on the first weekend back to school for those at UA so of course there was a big crowd. Had to line up for a short time, then shimmied my way inside. It was packed with college jocks, nerds, girls, drunks, yup just name it and you will see them. Service is a mixed bag depending on how busy they are. I only really came here to try this shot so I went straight to the bar. In order to try it you have to order two because they don't make just one by itself. It cost about $16 I think. The shot has some blue liquid in it, topped with a lemon and cinnamon over the lemon, then they light it on fire and throw cinnamon at it while yelling out spells. Sparks fly like mini fireworks. I give them odd looks since these spells they are shouting would of course not cause the effects they make, but still entertaining. Look at the pictures or videos that other people post of it and just absorb its awesomeness. Shot isn't strong at all, they did nothing to me, not even a buzz. Definitely come here to at least witness this experience. Then maybe go drink somewhere else after that's cheaper unless you love college crowds like me.

One of my favorite bars in Tucson. Really friendly staff and for how busy this place can get, the bartenders are always very attentive. Lots of beers and drink specials to choose from... and I should probably suggest you try the Harry Potter shot at least once. The shot itself is mehhh but the presentation is pretty epic. Related: this place smells amazing because of these shots. They set those suckers on fire and they're topped with cinnamon so there's always an aroma of French toast in the air. This place is great and I would love to give it 5 stars but the bathrooms are atrocious.

I really can't stand this place but I somehow get dragged here. I am putting my foot down and never setting foot in it again. The prices area horrific I don't understand why they think they can charge the prices they do, especially during happy hour. It's no surprise that every other place is packed during hh and this place has a max of 10 people milling about. The food, as I have said before, is expensive and nothing amazing. Standard bar fare at outrageous prices. I want to like this place, I do. But I have given it many chances over the last 8 months and it disappoints every time. Not even the promise of bar trivia can lure me in this craphole. Never again.

Worst bar in Tucson. The bartender was a pretentious dick and the bouncers were something out of a movie. They were like high school bullies, literally making fun of bar patrons, trying to start fights, it was ridiculous. I've never seen anything like it before, completely unprovoked too! Reading through the reviews I'm not the only one who had problems with the bouncers. The drinks were also overpriced and the place was a dirty shit hole. Save yourself the trouble, there are a ton of good bars on University, this isn't one of them.

I generally have mixed feelings about the Dub, but a couple of things make it four-star worthy. Firstly though, I'm going to express my grievances, which are rather silly little things actually. The set up of the Dub just doesn't appeal to me. I think it's just the tables that are kind of smooshed to the side and tightly packed together, and the uncomfortably high chairs that bother me. Also, service here is not the best, especially when it is busy on a weekend or when there is game. Nonetheless (time for the accolades), the Harry Potter shot is just awesome. I've been told that the blue liquid is Gatorade, but I'm not sure about that. Anyhow, they mix the shots (always comes in two or more), top the shot glass with an orange slice, pour over with alcohol, sprinkle some cinnamon on the orange slice, light it the alcohol, then toss in more cinnamon to make the fire huge and rain down little sparklets. It's really cool and the show makes the shot worth the $10. Another pretty awesome bit here is their fish and chips. I've ordered their fish tacos, which were okay, but my friends have all said the fish and chips, especially at happy hour price, is so great. Try it out! And be sure to take newly 21 year olds or friends visiting Tucson to try out the HP shot at the Dub.

We came here to eat and watch a game. We called ahead to make sure our game would be on and were told it would be on all TV's. Instead, they decided to show the last 1/2 hour of another game on half the TVs and we couldn't hear our game at all. On top of that, our server left our dirty plates on our table for at least 1/2 hour after we finished eating. The food was mediocre at best. The corned beef was tough and mostly flavorless. The fish wasn't seasoned nor were the fries. Huge disappointment.

Our bartender was FANTASTIC! She kept checking in with a smile, and was obviously keeping tabs on our food. Much appreciated, chica. The food itself was mostly meh, but good pub food is SO incredibly rare that I can't bring myself to dock them points over it. Great tap beer list.

Alright. I'm working on an Irish "Weekly Yelp" and this place keeps poppin' up, which is understandable, being all Irishy and such, but is it, really? It's a little cookie cutter for my tastes a little franchise-y. Is this it Tucson? Don't get me wrong. I've enjoyed the few times I've been there. Service is always prompt, they have a really good drink selection and it seems like the frat-guy-chads go elsewhere on 4th? In any case, I usually leave there having had a really nice time, but as far as pub atmosphere and pub grub, it falls short. Know Before You Go: They'll tell you it's not a chain, but there are five more. You decide.

A few nights ago I was pulled into this bar by a friend because they had to have a special drink called a "HARRY POTTER". Its a blue shot , with a lemon slice hat, sugar on top that is set on fire with some other alcohol. As its on fire they spike it with cinnamon which creates a really cool camp fire magic effect and is definitely a showstopper. The fire also warms the lemon and caramelizes the sugar and when blown out this becomes your shot chaser. Too much sugar can lead to mixed reviews on this as it alters the experience. It is a magical experience and a great way to impress on a fun night out. The inside bar has well dimmed lighting and lends it self to that old fog atmosphere of Ireland. There are interesting artifacts on the walls and ceiling which make it well suited to create that old tavern ambiance. The restrooms are really far in the back down a hallway that feel like two separate buildings. I wish they could dress it up in the future to keep the experience harmonized. The smoking porch out front is a fun place to post and watch passerby's on this bust street and witness cops doing their job, whilst having strong feelings of schadenfreuden as you see people get pulled over. Its a great pub and one i will be giving more patronage in the future.

I've been a fan of the dubliner for a while, but today sealed the deal. I went in, slightly hungover, looking for the ultimate cure- the bloody mary. I always feel bad ordering one because there's so much work that goes in to it. This bartender was a champ, and I only regret that I didn't get her name so that I could tell the yelp community about her. She made an excellent bloody mary, with all of the essential ingredients and the addition of a bit of guiness and olive juice. I was basically enamored with the glass in front of me. The dubliner has some great other perks as well, the beer is good, the drinks aren't too expensive, and it's walking distance to my apartment. It's definitely one of my favorite spots on University.

Bouncer wouldn't let one of my sober friends inside and was exceptionally rude when we asked why (friend was 21 and we had more to drink then he had!). Asked us to leave and immediately threatened to call the cops. Perhaps he was following some guideline for letting people in, but no need to be downright rude to us.

I understand this is a college bar and I am sure they get their fair share of drunk frat guys but that doesn't give them the right to treat people the way they do.

The Auld Dubliner is a favorite of mine to get fish and chips at...granted, they are supposed to have authentic Irish food, but I've never had any of it. The atmosphere is decent. It's supposed to be playing off the "pub" feel with dark walls and dim lighting. There is plenty of seating, with booths on the outside, high tables between bars and booths and then a private room in the back. The bathrooms are a strange adventure in itself to get to! You walk to the back of the bar, past the private room into a hallway that looks like you should be going to class in. Or might be featured in a bad horror prom flick. Anyways, they restrooms are old and dingy and just seem icky. The food is decent. I've only had the fish and chips, as I said before, and they were good. In fact, the fries were delicious because they sprinkled some kind of curry seasoning over them to give them a surprising kick. A group of us when from the b/f's work (he's in an "international dining club" with work people) and someone had the bangers and mash and said it was just ok. It wasn't the best he'd had. Also, some of the beers they list on their website as being on tap are actually NOT on tap, the ace's cider among them. We ordered some appetizers, typical bar food of potato skins and classic curry chips. Those were delicious! Overall, a decent place to go for drinks and happy hour. Dinner is worth a try as there are some fairly good meals on there, my fish n chips and the shepard's pie included.

I almost past this bar up but then decided to stop in for a beer. Not too many people there for a Sunday around 7 but I ended up staying and ordering the blackened chicken (in a wrap) w/ tots which was great! ...I'm from out of town and don't know many bars but Paul & Taylor which work there made me feel like I was at my home bar, Thanks guys, I'll be back again!!!

As a bar, this place is not bad at all, but as an Irish pub, this place is pure shite. Why is daylight allowed in there? Why are the bartenders eager to serve? Why doesn't someone kick that hipster college boy's arse for wearing girly pants?

I like the new and improved menu, the street tacos were delicious and you can't go wrong with 2$ blue moons. I love the atmosphere, good place to go out drinking on University they had 5$ car bombs and 3$ vodka drinks on special last time we were there!

So.... we came for trivia on a Wednesday night. This bar is located right on campus, so I expected a rowdy crowd of undergrads. Instead we got a rowdy crowd of grad students til about 11, when the undergrads showed up. It was a little louder and drunker than I would prefer, as I have recently and without warning turned into my grandmother... but it was still tolerable for an Irish bar. The drink specials were OUT OF CONTROL. I had two whiskey on the rocks and a glass of merlot and paid $15 with tip! I realize I am still on the "Boston price" expectation, but damn, I keep getting off SO cheap in Tucson. I still faint every time I think of paying rent at A THIRD of what a crappy apartment went for in Boston. Staying on track... There was definitely a sound problem with the trivia pa. It was distorted and the DJ lady had to basically yell every question at least twice. Still, we didn't even understand about 1/4 of the questions... I think the bar needs to invest in some real speakers. The bottom line? I probably won't come again for trivia, but I'd probably go out here with a few girlfriends mingle, the crowd seemed interesting.

Karaoke? Woooooooooooo! Food is alright but I think people only come here for the karaoke, that or they can't drive and just walk here from school.

This place is convenient, has a nice patio, and a decent selection of beers. I have been here on several weeknights around 8 and it is never crowded. The curry fries were really good. The waiters are probably college students and not very attentive, always forgetting things, but sometimes that works in your favor if they forget to charge you for drinks!

The establishment is a college hangout and can get a bit crowded Friday and Saturday evenings. The inside area has plenty of seating and they do have a small patio out front. Ensure you come during happy hour to take advantage of their drink specials. I have visited this establishment several times over the years and as always I once again had the corned beef boxty and a Guinness. Sliced corned beef, Swiss cheese, and a horseradish mayo sauce wrapped in a potato pancake with seasoned cabbage. Wish I could tell you more about their menu but this is all I ever order as it is just fantastic. If you'd like to BAM it up a notch with some flavorful heat sensation, ask for the small jar of Coleman's mustard. I really enjoy stopping at a venue for a bite to eat where great service, superb meal, and cold beer is always the norm. Enjoy!

I can't for the life of me figure out why people like this place. As a bar alone it's fine I suppose if you like waiting for ever for your drinks. Each and every time I have been here they are short handed, it takes forever to get waitied on and the food borders between mediocre and miserable. My friends and I have tried several dishes, hamburgers, corned beef, fish sandwhich, salad, bangers and mash....presentation is always wonderful and food is always disappointing. I love the decor and a good pint of Guiness, but all the negatives are too much to overcome. I won't be back.

I had the pleasure of living in Tucson when this place opened and it became one of my favorites the minute I hit the door. The food is always amazing and the drinks are always cold and you never hear them say "sorry we are out". When I go back to visit Tucson this place is always a must stop. From the servers/bartenders/managers(all employees) to the music and food this place is all around AWESOME and always a great time. ( I only wish they still had Boddingtons on draft)

I like the dubliner. Sometimes it's a little loud or packed but what great bar isn't? Very friendly staff, easy to get on a first name or a hey I recognize your face, basis with. I don't order em but the Harry potter shot is something to see and experience. For a while I had all the weekly deals memorized but alas school has limited my bar nights. I'll edit when I can but they have karaoke, live music, comedy, djs, prolly something going on at night. The bar food, it's real food! Great stuff, "loaded tots" mmmm great base layer for a night of drinking. They have some other very good items on the menu too. They have an auxiliary room that the use some times on bigger nights, worth checking if it's a Saturday night and the main area is packed.

AMAZING happy hour! The drinks and appetizers are a much better choice at the Dub than at another other bar on University. It's a fun place to stop by after class and grab a burger or a pint. The Harry Potter shot is as much of a spectacle as one would expect - and the friendly bar tenders are always happy to whip it up for a group of revelers. Overall the service here is pretty consistently good. Can't go wrong at the Dub!

I tend to treat this like the pubs I frequented when I visited England--a nice diversion on a weekend afternoon. The drinks are well made, the draught choices are plentiful, and the decor has that Irish feel. Yeah, it's really that "out-of-the-box-kit Irish feel" but whatever. The food is decent, but nothing exceptional. Think pub grub from somewhere that hasn't been pointedly noted as having great food. Fair enough but it won't blow you away. There's the occasional music--always free. I believe there's even impromptu gatherings of musicians that occasional happen during the day. Always fun to walk in on something like that. Good place to enjoy a pint on the front patio where you can watch people go by. Great place to grab a pint for that football match (English or American) as well. Crowds can get a little more hectic in the evenings as it is close to campus. Service is ok, but highly dependent on how crowded the place is. If it's crowded, just expect to get less attention. See you there for the next Manchester United match with a pint of bitter!

Irish Pub chain hits Tucson. Depends on what you are looking for. Bit crowded and full of the student crowd when students carouse - weekend nights. Sunday afternoon there have been music sessions the likes of which Tucson has never seen before. Not unusual for the musicians to outnumber the audience. Never been disappointed. The menu is dull and tiresome. A few "traditional" dishes and burgers. 5 stars for the Sunday music, 3 stars for bar = 4 stars. It seems that the musicians are not quite the draw they were hoping and the sessions have not been happening. That was the draw for me especially in an Irish pub atmosphere. Parking is a little difficult since it competes with the U, so paying for parking at the garage might be worth it. They do have a snug if you want to order the girl drinks.

I visited this pub frequently on Sundays when they have the live Celtic Band (about 4-7ish). It is a fantastically fun place. There is no other place like it in Tucson. The staff is decent the drinks and food are good. Its a nice place to run away from the world from for a spell.

Finally tried the Auld Dubliner before a UA game and I'll be back! They have a good selection of Brit beers on tap, although my half & half was more like a 85/15. The decor is great. The service was decent. The food was good with healthy portions - looking forward to trying more of the themed fare. Prices were reasonable. What else do you want in a pub?

  • Jeff K.

Not a fan. Whoever is working the grill is either drunk or just incompetent. My steak was over cooked. For $26.00 I'd expect better. They have these crepe styled, potato pancake dishes called Boxty's. You can get them stuffed with either corn beef, salmon, shepard pie filling, and a couple other choices that seem to escape me. My friend order the corn beef Boxty and it looked like it seemed to sit under the warmer a tad bit long. It was dry and crunchy. I think most of the people that went to this place just went to drink. That will always make any food tolerable.

Had a very nice dinner here last night. My half corned beef and salad was excellent - my only complaint was that the lettuce wasn't as crisp as I'd like. Hubby had the chicken caesar wrap, declared it just fine. If it were only the food, I'd give 3 stars - but the service was excellent. Granted, it wasn't a busy night, but the waitress was prompt and cheerful, even as we switched seats a couple of times. Inside - was a bit warm, so we ended up on the patio, which is small, but on a gorgeous summer night - a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the evening and watch the people walk by.

I'm not sure how to rate this place. The scenery is standard wannabe Irish-pub fare but since the Dubliner is one of a chain this could be expected. For dining, the food that I've tried has been pretty tasty, but overpriced to say the least. Finally, the bar is solid and has an excellent selection, but is crimped by a lack of space (just look at the smoking area when you drive by, the whole bar will be around the same density of people). This wouldn't be a problem except this place gets packed constantly, even on weekdays. Some people like a packed bar full of U of A students (and a few too many greeks nowadays) but uh I like my shoes clean and amateur hour never really appealed to me.

Well if you like a flashy, Irishy interior with a collegiate (not cottage pub) atmosphere, this place is for you. However, once past the "glamour" you will realize the service is mediocre and the food is from a distributor and can be had at less inflated prices at any other university area bar. Sadly the food as it appears on the web site is not how it appears when served and is basically tasteless. The food is shoveled out with vast quantities of alcohol so little presentation or preparation is needed on the managements end and only alcohol induced hunger needed on the patrons' part. The Aulb Dubliner has a full bar and numerous foreign and domestic beers on draught and in the bottle/I ordered a Harp Lager and was dismayed when I received the glass to find lipstick on it.This is not as auspicious way to begin a meal. I sent it back and ordered a bottle of Heineken. The beer was cold but pricey. In addition, they can hire pretty gals with big boobs and cute butts to waitress, but that doesn't mean they have the ability to remember orders or deliver them in a timely manner. The latter is the case at the Aulb Dubliner. Food quality and taste gets a D Food presentation gets a C Service gets a C Drinks gets a D In finishing this review I will say this in favor of the Aulb Dubliner. Young adults and seasoned drunks tend to favor the dark dive atmosphere found in establishments like this and it will garner their approval. Most normal patrons will find it irritating and smelly.

Great place to go on Sunday nights (live Celtic music) and a great place to get wings (some of the best wings around). They have excellent beer battered fish and chips and their tots are wickedly crunchy (look out Grill). The wait staff are always friendly and keep everyone topped off and well taken care of...oh yeah and they know how to pour a good Guiness.

I was there on a Saturday night with 4 other buzzed if not already drunk guys...so i was the mama of the group...was walking around university wondering where to go...this was the liveliest at the time so we went in... the guys only got vodka and redbull but it was pretty good and fast service too..the girls are really sweet...lots of guys around in kilts, so that's fun...and the live entertainment is great...the guys that was playing that night got a lot of people into the songs...fun...loud...not sure how much the drinks went for...but not too much...would go back...probablly would get even more crowded during the academic year, but it was good for the time being...but i think it's just because it's summer, so there are not AS many students around...

    (4)

Pretty neat spot that is what you'd picture for a typical Irish or English bar. I haven't tried the food yet. Tried the Harry Potter shot - its a gimmick.. sticky and no alcohol in it. But its fun to watch them make it. :) Otherwise, neat little bar.

    (2)
  • Kali M.

  • Ronnie H.

Ok so the ambiance is nice; however, when I think of an Irish bar I expect traditional dishes from Ireland. You know, just like grandma used to make? Unfortunately, there are none although the menu indicates otherwise. WTH? Best thing about this pub is the nice pint of Guinness. Mmmmmm

  • Dale W.

Great drinks - Guinness and Harry Potter shots are a must! Very good Irish food - bangers and mash, potato pancakes and the curry fries are incredible! Sláinte Yelpers!

So.... we came for trivia on a Wednesday night.

Bouncer wouldn't let one of my sober friends inside and was exceptionally rude when we asked why (friend was 21 and we had more to drink then he had!).

The atmosphere here for a Friday just flat out sucked. The auld dubliner in long beach, ca on the other hand...now that's a bar!

You decide.

Mmmmmm

  • Dale W.
