Mexican food inside a gas station??? Really?? Affordable, clean and friendly service. I've driven by this Shell a million times, and noticed the sign in the front for Aqui Con El Nene, but never thought to stop in. A friend of mine was raving on and on about how the food is the best he's tasted since being in Mexico, and said that I had to try it. We walked into the gas station, and the air was a bit smoky from all the amazing food cooking in the kitchen. It all smelled fantastic. I ordered two beef tacos and a beef carmelo. And my friend ordered four tacos. There's a salsa bar, where you can load up with all sorts of toppings, including cheese, mushrooms, salsa, pico de gallo, gaucamole, etc. I think I seriously inhaled my food. It was all so amazing. The beef was perfectly juicy and filled with lots of flavor. I definitely plan on coming here on a regular basis!

This is my absolute favorite place for tacos! It is way better than Guero Canelo. Their meat isn't full of fat chunks like meat at Guero. Their salsa bar is always neat and clean. The service is very friendly. I eat here very often because it is just delicious! I recommend anything on their menu with carne asada.

This place rates five stars for what it is, not for what it isn't. It's not a dine in restaurant, although you can eat there and it's neat and clean, but it's in a gas station, for heaven's sakes, ( : The food, however, is great, fresh, well-seasoned and prepared quickly. The staff is friendly and efficient and seems to really like being there. Just don't forget the salsa bar, which is pretty comprehensive, as far as add-ons and condiments go, and each item has a separate cover and ladle, which says a lot about the place. The take-out experience, in other words, is over the top. This is good fast, Mexican food. As far as the neighborhood options are concerned, the food is far better than Teresa's Mosaic Cafe and maybe a little better than Juanito's Taqueria, although without some of the latter's options. Be aware though: If you ask the young lady at the counter, "Donde esta el nene?" she'll just smile and roll her eyes at you (which, come to think of it, is the only appropriate response.)

STOP. Colloborate and listen. Aqui Con El Nene is back with a brand new edition. Well, actually it's been around for about a year now at this Shell gas station. I have been dying to try Aqui Con El Nene for a looong time- like Long Duck Dong looong time. And yes, I did love it long time. Now that I had a taste of the finest food produced out of a gas station eatery I will be surely be the duke of this place in no time. I personally enjoy little ethnic dives, so this being inside of a gas station was fine with me. Inside it was clean and it smelled like heaven. Grilled meat and bacon wafting though the air tempting even the strictest vegan to stray from the seitan. I placed an order large enough for a family of 6- I told you I've been wanting to try this for a long time. I did not hold back. They take your order on an iPad, they accept credit (4% upcharge if under $20), can break a $100, and have menus printed to go. One free refill is permitted. If you follow me or read any of my Yelpings- you know Boca's macho taco is my favorite thing on earth. Well, get this... a Taco Yaqui is just like it! A taco featuring a green Chile, stuffed with melted cheese, meat, and get this- BACON and mushrooms. Mind blown. How on earth did I not know this was a thing. Who else sells these master pieces? Then I had the chicken durado (crispy taco). It was not what I expected but it was great. It was a homemade tostada topped with chicken and cabbage. The chicken was sooo good. Then I had the papanche with mixed meat (chicken, steak, pork, bacon). Basically it's a stuffed potato with grilled meat and melted cheese. It came with grilled onion, sour cream and two tostadas. I could not feast on all of this, and the guy behind the counter wrapped it all up. It was like Christmas morning when he handed it to me. Then there is the salsa bar. It is the most impressive and delicious salsa bar I've experienced. These salsa pack heat and I was so happy. They even had some amazing mysteries like a mushroom soy squash like combo and a cheesy creamy spicy want to dip my fingers in and lick it off it's so good concoction. Fresh veggies. So flipping good. Now, about that food truck of theirs...

First & last visit. Friendly service but the food is nothing to die for. I had one carne asada taco & was not impressed. My son had a crispy flour tortilla with cheese & carne asada and this meal was covered in extra oily cheese and the meat looked like chicharrones (disgusting).Plus your eating at a gas station...felt gross & smelled weird. I much rather eat at a hotdog stand and smell fresh air instead of gasoline.

Presentation was as what I would expect from their main restaurant. Same ample condiment bar. Excellent sonoran-style true roasted steak blend for their carne asada. This location may seem unconventional, but they truly shine here: clean and efficient with courteous service to boot! Try it out.

You might think a random Mexican food place in a gas station would be sub par...WRONG. THIS WAS SOME TASTY STUFF! Hit all the notes with great prices and fast service.

I love that this place is so close to my house, they're fast and delicious! I picked up a Sonoran dog, and tacos to go, and it was ready in a minute, they were starting to make my food while I was still ordering, and it was prefect! Nice big grill onions and chilies. Perfect grilled chicken and steak, and perfectly grilled tortillas!! All for ten bucks! You can't beat it!!

I was told to check this place out. When I got it I wasn't sure how the food would come out especially for being behind a gas station but I was definitely wrong! This place has some bomb tacos and burritos and the Horchata... Some of the best if had in Tucson!

I agree with my fellow 4 an 5 star reviewers. My go to item is the "everything" burrito. 1/2 for lunch and 1/2 for dinner. The owner usually stops by to see if I am enjoying the food. Very nice family and employees. As an added bonus folks in the Shell Station Convenience Store are great too! Where in Tucson can you fill up with great Mexican Food, fill up your tank, and hitch up a U-Haul ... Sweet.

I was a little reluctant to try "gas station Mexican food" but it couldn't be worse than the Del Taco next door and I was pleasantly surprised! Got the carne asada tacos and they were great! Street style. There's a large salsa/toppings bar to make it the way you want. Cheap and tasty. The people were really nice too!

Yes, it's in the Shell gas station. And it's great food. My girlfriend said it might be the best burrito she ever had. The salsa bar is a nice touch to top your order with. Fountain drinks have a limit of one refill.

Best sonoran dogs in tucson at a newer location. This spot has indoor seating and a drive thru. Nene's crushes the overrated guy who got a big head when he got on tv

For a restaurant in a gas station this place is pretty good. I went here for my first Sonoran Hot Dog. It was actually pretty good and the people here were very friendly.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
