Loved it! We started to order around 10:05am. This is significant because the Basic + Chicken Fried Steak, Basic + 6oz Steak, and the Huevos Rancheros are all a few dollars cheaper if you go before 10am. I was interested in the Basic + Chicken Fried Steak and since it was only a little after 10, I was hoping they wold make an exception. I was SO happy that the server said he would give me the lower price. He didn't have to, but he absolutely made my day. (I had a back up choice if he said no, as a good customer should).t I'm from New York so I've heard of chicken fried steak before, but even when I've had the opportunity in the south, I never took advantage of it. But for $5.99 (BEFORE 10AM), I had to have it. Amazing doesn't do it justice. It was phenomenal. The gravy was perfect, there was bacon (!!!) between the gravy and the meat, and the outside was perfectly crispy and warm. Sure the meat looked mysterious and it was certainly unhealthy. But I knew both of those things going in and I have no regrets. I'm from New York so what do I know about chicken fried steak? Just that it's the ultimate southern breakfast and now I have a unquenchable thirst for more. My mom got the Basic. This consists of eggs (any way you want them), potatoes, and two pieces of toast (several varieties of bread to choose from). This was the same price as my meal, but seemed to come with more potatoes than the combinations. My sister got a Belgian waffle. She ate the whole thing. I highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast in Sedona!

We came here after a hike on Doe Mountain and before heading to the Grand Canyon. They have the best huevos rancheros ever! Plus, before 10am they are discounted! The coffee is great and they offer to go cups. Also, the service and value is fantastic. Great menu and very nice people!

Service was excellent. Food is very affordable however, it could use a little more seasoning.

My favorite place to eat in all of Sedona! If you are looking for a wide variety of food at an inexpensive price, this is the place for you. Good and quick service is also a plus.

The casual sister of the Golden Goose with authentic Mexican food! Known to have great huevos rancheros and said by many to be the best breakfast in town! We went here for dinner and margaritas. The chips were fantastic and so were the two types of salsa that they brought out. Carne asada chimichanga was awesome as well as the shrimp quesadilla. Service was attentive and the prices were fair. The ambiance left a little to be desired but all and all a good experience and authentic meal here!

The breakfast specials were really SPECIAL. We were guided here from a local resort after being able to verify that we were from Arizona and not visiting tourist...this is where the locals go for breakfast. Low ambiance, located in a strip shopping center. I could describe my Southwestern breakfast in detail...but it was a special for that day only. Be Bold..Ask the wait people for help.

4-Stars for nearly perfect family-style restaurant in Sedona, AZ. When my parents and I visited Sedona (they live in nearby Cottonwood), they recommended we grab lunch at Cafe Jose. I was skeptical when I saw the small looking restaurant in the strip mall next to the McDonalds (the only McDonalds with turqois arches instead of golden). When we went in, though, I realized that like the TARDIS, Cafe Jose is much larger on the inside! We were greeted by very friendly people and the friendly service continued through every interaction with every member of the staff. Mom said, "You can get just about anything in here!" and sure enough the menu is huge and contains "American" food, breakfast and a whole page of Mexican food. I ordered shredded beef enchiladas and my parents both also ordered Mexican food. As I currently live in WA state, it was VERY nice to eat actual Mexican food for a change. The food wasn't anything special to folks who live in AZ, but it was perfect compared to our slim pickings near Seattle. Even by AZ standards my plate was delicious and excellent. After a week of business travel, it was wonderful to eat a meal that wasn't fast food or worse. Cafe Jose is probably going to be my go-to place to take my parents when I visit them next time I'm in Arizona!

Excellent food, very reasonable prices. Friendly staff and pleasant music. We came back for breakfast 2 times and just finished dinner Great find

Poor food quality and service. Chicken tasted like cardboard. I would be very apprehensive to look at what condition the kitchen was in. The servers forgot utensils and were not very engaging. I would not recommend this place to anyone other than those who are stopping for eggs or some other quick meal. Dinner was less than ideal.

Best breakfast in Sedona hands down. Too bad we found it on our last day of vacation. The food is great and the portions are large. Comfort foods like biscuits and gravy along with a menu that includes several variations on Mexican breakfasts. Service was good. Our waiter was polite and efficient. Kind of hidden. Look behind the McDonalds if you can find it. It's worth the search.

  • Bruce P.

Good food. Great breakfast menu. Hard to find. The Yelp map had it misplaced. It is off SR 89a, but it is behind the McDonalds in the SW corner of the Safeway parking lot.

  • Alyssa T.

Good breakfast burritos, but very messy so not the best choice to-go. It's a little odd that you can only pick three ingredients as the filling (plus egg), but the ingredients themselves are very tasty so it balances out. Good refried beans. Good chorizo. The breakfast burritos are huge so you could easily split one if you're not a lumberjack needing 8000 calories of breakfast to fortify you while you split wood all day.

  • Chay M.

According to the locals this is the best value Mexican food. They were right! We went in for dinner and the food was excellent and portions were ridiculously large. We'll be back to try breakfast. We heard it's even better than lunch or dinner. We ordered: -Carne asada plate with rice and beans and diet coke -Two item combo (cheese tamale, bean tostada) with rice and beans and diet coke PROS: Delicious food, large portions, guacamole and chips were included CONS: n/a RECOMMENDATIONS: n/a

Cafe Jose is a genuine family restaurant in Sedona. My fiancé and I ate here tonight and both had the prime rib special. It was cooked perfectly and I was really happy about it. Our server Milo was a rock star with a positive attitude and charming smile! Great service and warm environment!

Located in strip mall of Safeway by ups store. Better then we hoped! Outside is misleading, nice inside, smells amazing when you walk in. Many local awards on walls. Friendly service. Moderate prices. Had fish taco special $8.99, fish was good and was lightly breaded and crispy . Beef flautas $9.99 were crunchy, moist and delicious . Total bill $20.76

Had dinner there this evening, average at best, service on the point of being rude, will not be back. Do no recommend. For the amount of the bill way Overpriced

Went here our first night in Sedona around 7pm and we were seated right away and got drinks, chips and salsa, and our food came out quickly. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was good. Our group tried the enchilada, quesadilla, and burrito. Can't go wrong with those!

  • Frank M.

I ordered the Saturday Night special, Prime Rib. The cook obviously does not know how to cook prime rib. What I was served looked like Road Kill. I never had a prime rib that flopped. I think they microwaved it rather than cooked it in an oven or on a grill. Buyer Beware on this place.

  • Kelli L.

The service was abrupt, and the food mediocre, but what changed this from a 3 to a 1 for me was th fact that cockroaches were on the wall, one of which crawled down into my food. If a place can't control visible cockroaches during noon rush time, it's a little worrisome.

    (1)

Reasonable prices, large portions and tasty food. We enjoyed our stop here which was a repeat for our family. The chorizo was excellent. Service was outstanding with the staff being attentive and friendly.

My kids and I came across this restaurant when we were exploring the area for somewhere to eat dinner. They serve everything on the menu all day so we all got something different and it all was amazing. The nachos were extremely filling and delicious, my 19 year old son couldn't even finish them. My 15 year old son got the fish and chips which he loved, my 10 year old daughter got the short and I got the Basic+ cornbeef hash. None of us were able to finish our plate and the food was delicious. I will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in Sedona.

My fiancee and I came here for lunch after going on two hikes in sedona, AZ. This place was recommended by a local. I would definitely recommend to NOT order anything else besides MEXICAN food. Do not expect to get a decent meal if you order something rather than MEXICAN, which makes sense since it is a MEXICAN restaurant. I had the beef chimichanga which came with refried beans, mexican rice, lettuce, and salsa. I liked my dish. It is basically shredded beef that is stuff into fried tortilla and the whole thing is smothered with red sauce. It was the first time I had chicmichanga so I have nothing to compare it to. My fiancee had chicken salad sandwich and it was the worst we've had. There were pieces of carrots added to the chicken salad and it had no flavor. yelp.com/biz_photos/cafe… Overall: We would not come back here if given the chance.

Very good food at a reasonable price in Sedona. This place is a favorite of the locals and I can see why.

Classic Americana meets Mexican! I came for dinner after a long, cold, 10 mile day on the trails. Waitstaff seated me promptly and went over the specials that were posted on a little board near the door. With a name like Cafe Jose I sort of expected tacos and burritos but quickly noticed they had American staples like meatloaf, fried chicken, and chili. I ended up ordering the chicken dumplings special. Food was great... large chunks of chicken and really yummy biscuits. The portion size was gigantic and it cost a mere $8. Yes! I loved my dinner so much I came back the next day for breakfast and tried the machaca. What I got was the best machaca I've ever eaten. WOW. The beef was so tasty and spiced very well. It also tasted very fesh. Maybe a slightly negative for giving me only 1 flour tortilla... but thats pretty minor. Leave the over priced/rated 5* dining behind and come here to chill with the locals and for great american/mexican eats at very reasonable prices. Staff is also super friendly.

Don't eat here! We only went here because the restaurant we wanted to go to up the road had an hour wait so they gave us a coupon to this place. Everyone in my family ordered a different dish and different cuisine. They were all disgusting! Nothing was edible. I saw some people at nearby tables ordered breakfast (it was dinner time). None of us tried the breakfast, it looked like it might have been better.

Came here today on Christmas day. It about the only restaurant open. What a wonderful breakfast! Ranchos haveros was the best! Everyone working was so pleasant. Always there to fill the delicious coffee. I will be back tomorrow for breakfast.

Had a wonderful hour of lunch and margaritas at Cafe Jose. After spending a weekend in Sedona, we were pretty maxed out financially and were looking for authentic and reasonable mexican food before driving back to Phoenix. This is exactly what Cafe Jose was. Delicious nachos, tasty margaritas and a great atmosphere. We had a lovely server named Casy. She was so helpful ( we were pretty demanding group of ladies) but she fulfilled our every request, and than some!!! I would come back again just to have her as my server! If you're thinking of coming here, think no more and act now!!!!! :)

Coffee Pot is a great place, but instead of waiting an hour for a parking spot and table, I come here for the perfect Italian Scramble, while in and out in 30 minutes. Fantastic old fashion taste and service.

  • Noemi V.

Restaurant.com offered coupons to try this place and since we were spending the weekend in Sedona, AZ we decided to give it a try. Food's fine. Big portions. Reasonably priced. Carne asada was tasty. Rice was kid of gooey, though but flavor was fine. No baby changer in the bathroom, though. I'd think, since it's a new location they'd provide with one. Overall, it's an OK place to eat. Nothing spicy. Not fancy but a good place for breakfast or lunch before you head back home. Service was quick and very friendly.

During my travels in Sedona I've had breakfasts, lunches and dinners at Cafe Jose. I'd like to give them 2.5 stars if I could. Solid 3 stars because this place has many plus points: it's not touristy, is in a convenient location, has very good service, good portions for the price, you pretty much know what your meal is gonna taste like from the description. However only 2 points for the consistency of the details of the food definitely needs improvement. It's very hit or miss whether the coffee will be hot enough, the toast will be crisp or warm bread, whether the gravy on top of the otherwise tasty and hot chicken fried steak will be warm. There is really no reason for this inattention to detail and it factors into my desire of whether I really want to go back.

The expression "Jack of all trades, master of none", rings a little true when I think of Cafe Jose. There are about two hundred items in a variety of different cuisines on the menu which to me indicated more than a little lack of focus. I ordered their blackened chicken wrap special and my husband ordered a burrito plate. My wrap contained far more black beans than chicken and the chicken that was there was quite dry. I ended up using the salsa that came with my husbands complimentary chips and salsa to add some flavor and moisture. Based on my husbands feedback on the burrito and the taste of the homemade chips and salsa, I think you are best served sticking to the Mexican portion of the menu. The prices are also reasonable and the service is good.

Huge serving of very well seasoned shredded beef in the taco and the chimi. Red and green salsa with the crispy chips. Definitely coming here again...maybe for breakfast next time, served all day!

We eat here every time we go to Sedona. The prices are very reasonable, and the food is always tasty. They have dinner specials each evening also!

We headed to Café Jose to get away from some of the touristy restaurants with high prices. If you want to eat where locals do, then this is your restaurant. The food was good, the price was right and the service was extremely friendly and prompt. The menu offers a wide variety of different entrees. I think the best offerings we had on our visits were the Mexican cuisine.

  • Tom O.

Ate here twice thanks to Yelp. First night my wife got the meatloaf and I had the chicken burrito. Amazing, cheap and fast dinner for about $20!!! Were so impressed that we ate here tonight, great food and service again!

  • Victor M.

Bleh! Nothing is home cooked like their outside signs say. Taste like everything comes frozen from Walmart. Had Beef Liver and Onions. Liver was definitely from a freezer. It had a nice oblong shape. Also had Chicken Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans. Also definitely either came from a bag or a box.

  • Simone T.

Happened to stop here when headed to Safeway. Delicious. Being from Austin, we eat Mexican food all the time and Cafe Jose did not disappoint. The salsa is fresh and spicy (Verde is hotter). I ordered the peach ice tea and the two taco plate. The refried beans are veggie so no meaty flavor - just a heads up. Two of us ate (without alcohol) for under $30. Great deal, great food, would return without hesitation.

  • Dennis C.

We've intended to try the place for a while and now are sorry we did. Expectations of homestyle cooking were met by nondescript diner food that's a notch below Denny's or Carrows. Bland and served barely warm. The vegetables were from a can and not warm enough to even soften butter. The baked potato looked like it was steamed. Most of the food appeared to be cooked well in advance and held in a "warm" tray until served hours later. The tacos were good sized but flavorless. The huge and varied menu looks impressive but is probably at the root of the mediocrity; they should focus on serving fewer entrees well...and hot! The positives are that the food here is inexpensive for Sedona and the place is clean. Service was OK but we had to wait ten minutes to order on a slow night. and there was no mention of the specials. We only noticed the special board in a dark location outside as we left.

I don't live in town so I'll never eat here again regardless, but even if I did, I would never eat here ever again. I ordered the basic breakfast (2 eggs, potatoes, toast) plus corned beef hash. The corned beef was visually and texturally really a lot like dog food. (I noted some corned beef hash with the same consistency in a restaurant in Austin, so this is apparently not a fluke, but rather a certain type? Disgusting.) The toast was cool, no butter. The coffee was also cool. The eggs and hash browns were unremarkable. I couldn't get over the gross consistency of the hash and the cold toast, so I didn't eat a ton and now I feel sick. Finally, I've never eaten here before so I spent 15 mins sitting at my table with my credit card on the bill, waiting for my waitress to pick it up so I could pay. Eventually I thought to ask if I was supposed to pay at the counter, which I was, but it's weird to me no one thought to tell me, when I was clearly trying to pay and didn't have the information I needed. There was a lot of waitstaff and any one of them could've mentioned it!

Overall, a pretty standard diner. The portions were ample and the food was decent if a little dry and unimaginative.

  • Sunny B.

I stayed in Sedona for 6 days over Christmas and I ate at Café Jose twice. It is a diner, and I could tell it was a local favorite from all the regulars dining there. The Huevos Garcia was pretty tasty, hot and fresh with homemade salsa. I also had the veggie omelet and it was equally good. The service was incredibly fast and both times our waitress was friendly (and she even remembered us from the day before .. If I lived in Sedona I could see myself becoming a regular here for breakfast. It is a diner, but a pretty solid one when you are looking for a no frills breakfast.

  • Carroll S.

Actual Mexican food, not made into gringo nothing/flavorlessness. Fresh salsa --the real thing. OK the beans are "vegan" but they have to-it's Sedona.

    (4)
  • Scott M.

Good food - and a great variety. Our family couldn't agree - so we ended up all getting wildly different foods at the same meal - including mexican burritos, teriyaki chicken, pancakes and chicken parmesan over spaghetti. We all enjoyed our food. They were able to accommodate our group of 7 easily - although the ambiance is a little lacking. This is a good place to get some food when you aren't looking for an experience -- just a good meal.

  • Kory K.

A must have every time we are here. Wait staff happy and prompt. Omg. Try the salsa on your omelette. It's home made and to die for. Spice and flavor. Forget the fancy places. Go where the food is good and the prices leave you money for that pink jeep tour!!! Keep up the good work guys!!!!!

Skip the overpriced tourist trap restaurants that litter Sedona and go to Cafe Jose. The menu is very well-balanced. You can find just about any Mexican dish you are craving as well as down-home comfort food for those in your party who may not be so enthusiastic about Mexican. AND THEY SERVE BREAKFAST ALL DAY. I personally hold this factor sacred as far as diner/cafes go. I had the fish tacos-the portions were HUGE and I felt like an animal scarfing it down...absolutely delicious! The beans and rice were perfect. Also, do yourself a favor and order a side of their heavenly guacamole to enjoy with the complimentary chips and salsa. The service was outstanding. Someone was at our table checking on our drinks constantly. Very attentive staff-it's obvious that it no every-waiter-for-him/herself type of establishment. The entire staff ensures that its guests are taken care of. Wonderful!

Great start for a busy day. The Huevos Rancheros was satisfying and there was nothing to complain about the Breakfast Burrito and the Chicken-fried Steak. The prices were affordable. The service was on point. Great job!

Cafe Jose located in the same strip mall as Safeway was one of the few restaurants open in the late afternoon. Here are some comments: Pros: convenient location right off highway 89, plenty of parking stalls, food arrives quickly, friendly staff, wi-fi So-so: the food is really mediocre I can't say I can recommend this restaurant simply because the food wasn't great. The prices are quite cheap here so if you need a quick fill and don't want fast food, this might be a place to try.

We were looking forward to dinner at Fournos as we drove back from Painted Desert. We got in at around 7:30 p..m. and Fournos was right across our hotel. The girl who answered the phone said that they were closing and in fact the kitchen is closed! My pleas fell on deaf ears. The other option was Cafe Elote which was highly recommended by an archaeologist we just met at Painted Desert but it was closed. :-( That's right. Just when you think that dinner time is starting, Fournos is closing. The lady at the hotel lobby recommended Cafe Jose which was close by. We were famished and didn't have time to check the yelp reviews so we called Cafe Jose and the lady who answered the phone said that they were also about to close but that they will wait for us. I had chicken fried steak while hubby had the prime rib. We were a bit rushed because the kitchen was closing. Looking back and reading the reviews now, we could have tried other items on their extensive menu containing American and Mexican food choices. However, we were glad that we found a dependable restaurant in Sedona and in case we're in the area, we'll definitely pass by for breakfast or lunch.

Awesome service, awesome food, and great for a hangover fix! They ahve a huge menu, so choosing what to eat was a bit hard, but from the looks of it, they do everything well. The restaurant was clean and the coffee was n onstop and I NEVER had to ask for assistance. The staff was on their game. I had the Grande Burrito and it was delicious. Although, it said that it came with green sauce and when it arrived it had red sauce on it. But I didn't complain and to be honest, the red sauce was so good! I did get some of their homemade HOT salsa and it was a nice roasty chipotle with some heat to it. It was very very good. My husband ordered bacon and eggs and said it was awesome. Based on our experience, we recommend this establishment.

This diner served fresh, delicious breakfast with good, friendly service and decent coffee. Our food came quickly and they kept our drinks filled. I had huevos rancheros and although they weren't homemade beans, the salsa was fresh and the tortillas on the side were warm and tasty. Our friend had a great big cinnamon roll - the waitress said they don't make them fresh but they were soft and flavorful. They don't have booths, but the atmosphere was inviting and tidy. It seemed like a lot of locals were there which is a nice sign. I would stop at Cafe Jose again, that's for sure.

This is a 4 star place but for Sedona. This is a dive diner with solid service and really solid food. You can't beat a restaurant that has great fish n chips as well as great chimichangas and 2 people can eat for $18! Solid place. Props to them for bringing a gold value dining joint to Sedona Just to confirm, this is NOT a 4 star atmosphere! Think of it as Dennys with really good food.

  • Mark C.

Yeah, everyone else touches pretty well on my sentiments about this place. Not sure if that last sentence is grammatically correct. I'd echo what everyone else said - American comfort food with variety of Mexican / Latin American choices. I wasn't *that* impressed with my burger and fries, though - because my burger toppings didn't have that much love: - slice of tomato was green and had the "stem" inside it. you'd think you could cut in the middle of the tomato for a burger topper - the onion was like 1 inch thick. Not much attention to detail. HUGE portions, however. So, I wouldn't say it's the highest quality stuff but I don't think anyone expects high quality when they go to such a place. Atmosphere also not much to speak of. Noisy without much ambience. I'd say this is a good place to take kids for sure!

  • Frank D.

Down home cooking at a down home price. Nothing fancy about this joint but the service is friendly and the servings are plentiful. Lots of tables available and something on the menu for everybody. The all you can eat fish and chips was a favorite at our table the night we went and the fajitas were tasty too! We will be back for sure!

  • Walker T.

Decent inexpensive local comfort food. Variety of american dishes and Mexican dishes. There is better mexican in town, but this isn't where you go for the best food. It's where you go for okay food at a good price in a town where everything else is expensive and mostly overpriced. Very glad this place exists.

This is not just Mexican food. I had prime rib and wife had salmon. Both excellent. Service was crisp. Next time we visit Sedona we will be back to Cafe Jose

I have had to change my opinion about this restaurant after my last 2 meals here. I had been going to the previous incarnation of this restaurant for years and loved their salad bar. When Cafe Jose took over, they took out the salad bar...I was heartbroken and didn't go back for a long time. The first time I had breakfast and was unimpressed and didn't go back for a long time again. In the last month I have had dinner and lunch here ~ and both were wonderful experiences. The dinner was salmon, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Delicious!!!! And so much food that I took home leftovers. My lunch was a tasty tuna melt and fries. Servers were excellent both time, especially Kayla, who offered smiles and a happy attitude along with attentive service. I'm glad I tried it again....

The food was very bland and was barely warm. The coffee was horrible and when I told the male cashier about it he said, "well, did you say anything to your waitress about it?" He very abruptly took it off the bill with attitude. I don't know where these good reviews are coming from, but I would not recommend this place to anyone.

  • Ron K.

Both Mexican plates were dry and salty, they were the carne asada chimichanga, and the shredded beef enchiladas. The refined beans were tasteless. We won't be returning, cashier seemed uninterested in my comments.

Some of the best eats in Sedona. Please note - AVOID the other Cafe Jose in Village of Oak Creek - this one is far superior. The eggs and chicken fried steak breakfast speacial was delicious and kept me going on the flight back home. And, at $4.99 a true bargain. Very nice wait staff.

My family and I came here for Christmas brunch. It was recommended to us by our hotel concierge. Cafe Jose seemed like a popular place for breakfast in Sedona. The food was good, and the service was quick. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito, and it was good. My sister got the Huevos Garcia and loved it. Your standard cafe.

Was in Sedona over the Veteran's day weekend and tried this restaurant at the recommendation of our hotel concierge. Liked it so much, we went back the next day! We went for breakfast both days - the service was quick and friendly, but the wait-staff didn't make us feel rushed. The food was excellent both days - cooked to perfection, home-made flavors and nice sized portions with surprisingly low prices. This will absolutely be our breakfast spot for return trips to Sedona.

We have been going to Jose's for 4-5 years when our group hikes in Sedona. Very consistent quality. We usually have ten to twenty people and get great fast service. We are always impressed at the quality of the waitresses. We had Kayla on 11/6/13 and we had 24 hikers with separate checks. No errors on orders or checks and great service and excellent food. Ambience is a cafe or dinner type of restaurant. Jose is not a table cloth type of place but quality of food and service is excellent.

Okay I'll admit it - I think I make a pretty mean meat loaf! Having said that my husband and I were in the mood for some comfort food in a very relaxed easy setting. We decided to give Cafe Jose a try and we are so glad we did. It touched every note on this rainy evening AND for a very affordable price. Yes, you guessed it their meat loaf is WAY better than mine. :(

Bland, cold, watered down. We walk in and we are seated at a booth. The wife instantly starts smelling BO. We waited a bit to see if it was just the person who seated us and decided it was somehow related to the booth we were sitting it. Awesome. No problem, we switch to a nearby table. That was the most interesting part of the meal. Service was quick, coffee comes in large black mugs. It's a trick though. If you put creamer in it, taste it, or spoon some out to have a look it's clearly just coffee flavored water. It was hot though. We ordred the chicken fried steak breakfast and a breakfast burrito. The chicken fried steak breakfast was warm at best, mostly room temperature. The biscuit was dense and tasted like something from the grocery store. The home fries had something like a watered down enchilada sauce on them. The inside of the breakfast burrito was hot, nothing else on the plate was. I never scrape off cheese, but the burrito was covered with cheese and some watered down enchilada sauce. Once I cleared off the sauce I was treated to a very plain tasting combination of bacon, egg, rice, and peppers. Nothing about the meal tasted anywhere close to good. We won't go back.

I'll give this place the nod for having quick and friendly service with affordable prices, but that's about it. The food didn't seem terribly fresh and it lacked any noteworthy flavor. I honestly feel that our food had probably been microwaved. Finally, the "hot salsa" for the chips was anything but hot. If you want fresh food, try the Quiznos a couple of doors down.

Very good wonderful family eating place in fancy Sedona. We had the Mexican combo, lots and lots of food. Very good, they serve some shaved lettuce, tomato and quac. And sour cream, yummy. Very good price as well. We could walk there from the Wyndham. Waitress very bubbly and owner very appreciative. Specials everyday are good solid meals.

I think the good cook may have gone on to new places...Jose's used to be one of my favorite diner's in Sedona for good homemade breakfast with a mexican twist. The food is now average and the decor inside could use some revamping.

Yum! This place was reviewed as having some of the best breakfasts in Sedona and it did not disappoint. I had the breakfast burrito with chorizo, bacon, potatoes, green chilis and salsa. I could not finish it all but it was delicious. Food came out quickly and the staff was very attentive and helpful. When I am in Sedona again, this is the place I will go to again.

Total diamond in the rough! My wife and I were starving after grabbing a few memory cards from the staples next door and we saw this little hole in the wall place in the corner of the shopping center. It has the overall appearance of a casual diner but the food was awesome. My wife got the black bean burger which was served on a corn tortilla and I got the jalapeno burger which was finger licking good. The food was so good we decided to come back the next day for breakfast and I'm glad we did. I got the chorizo scramble and my wife got the vegetarian omelette. Again, great flavors. Portions are huge. I must also mention the that pricing is very, very reasonable. Certainly much cheaper than any other tourist trap in Sedona.

this review is for dinner. about us: family of four, visiting sedona from california. we came in right before closing time (which is 8pm...what?). they seated us immediately. the place had a denny's feel, but with a nice mural on one wall. our waitress was super friendly and attentive and brought our food out quickly. and it was relatively cheap. but that's where the positivity ends. the food was just barely edible. however we only tried the mexican portion of the menu, so i cant vouch for the breakfast and burgers. being from LA, we are no strangers to good mexican food, but i hope that this food was the exception in Arizona and not the rule. we got: -an enchillada -a taco -a fajita plate -a taco salad the sauces and salsas tasted canned, the meats were not particularly flavorful. afterwards we were full, but i felt like i ate a brick. bottom line: cheaper than other places in Sedona, but you get what you pay for.

What a hidden Gem! Cafe Jose has a very diverse menu, large portions and great food! We found Cafe Jose by chance and are we glad we did! We actually ate here twice the weekend we were here visiting Sedona. Upon driving up, we saw the many accolades and awards that Cafe Jose has won over the past few years. They had a banner outside that read "Best Value" in town. I can confirm that its all true. All of their food is price VERY reasonably. I had a Chicken fried steak and eggs breakfast for $5.99! The food was good and the service was great. The second time we ate there for dinner the place was packed. Its definitely where all the locals go to eat.

I don't understand the other reviews. I thought it was the weirdest, yuckiest food I have ever eaten?! We had 9 people in our group and all the food looked yucky. Two of the kids had spaghetti. The sauce was served in a seperate bowl and had huge chunks of vegetables- what kind of kid would eat that?! One of the men had Chicken Monterey. It was covered in the yuckiest smelling bbq sauce and cheese. Two of the adults had chicken fajitas. The chicken was covered in this bright orange spice. I was told they were horrible. My and someone else had a burrito. So American- canned refried beans, I'm sure, some canned enchilada sauce on top. Not good AT ALL.

What a great find! My friend had her rehearsal dinner here and she found out about it from some of the locals. The staff, especially Jill, were attentive, patient and helpful and there were 20+ of us! Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals and breakfast served all-day is always a plus in my book. The portions were large and the potatoes and gravy were delicious. We'll definitely be back!

Good food and quick friendly service. I ordered a steak with a baked potato, my husband ordered the mexican food, and my son ordered chicken strips. Everything came out so fast and it was tasty. Not much too it. I will make sure to visit this place again if I'm looking for a convenient, fast, and inexpensive meal. Thanks!

Food was a little above average. The speed and friendly service makes this a place that I would come back to. The mini dessert selections are very tasty.

This was a bit tough to find, but soooo glad we did. The juevos rancheros with chorizo were the best I've had. A great way to fill up after a sunrise hike on Doe Mountain.

We really enjoyed our diner and the staff was so nice and attentive, the beef chimichanga was delicious, excellent, affordable, comfort food, with quick friendly service, what could be wrong?

My husband and I finally ate here after over a year of hearing locals talk about it and seeing the breakfast crowds line up. Went on a Sunday morning and waited about 15 minutes... Decor is high school cafeteria, but really we were there for the food. Only had what looked like two servers on for entire GIGANTIC room. Bus boys were scrambling to pick up slack... We actually "shared" our creamers with table next to us. Okay, the food. Husband ordered traditional breakfast-eggs, toast & potatoes. Eggs & potatoes were not hot and just okay. I had a salad and side of french fries. yes. yes. strange i know, but am not a fan of breakfast foods. Salad had HUGE pieces of carrots & celery. Even the lettuce was in large pieces. I kept joking that I got Mr. Ed's plate. French fries weren't hot. We left shaking our heads as we watched the line to get in continually grow. It is cheap. But you get what you pay for... Also, we tried the Village outpost of this restaurant. Gluttons for punishment we be... Same lukewarm food (literally), but better service. Probably because the place was empty.

I feel bad giving this place such a bad review since other people obviously liked it. My dining companions and I all agreed that this was one of the worst places we'd ever eaten. Everything was microwaved and/or straight out of a box. Nothing was fresh. My black bean burger was a frozen patty, cut in two, each wrapped in a tortilla shell and covered with store bought shredded "mexican" cheese mix. It was barely edible. Our waitress was really nice though... but seriously, you probably don't want to eat here.

This place was fantastic. We were hungry and tired after a long day of hiking....it started to rain and this just happened to be the closest quick bite to eat place we could see. So of course we did not know what to expect. There was no need to worry however as the food was really tasty...prepared to perfection...and the service was fast and friendly. I had the chicken salad sandwich which was made with sprouts and sunflower seeds and it came with a choice of sides.....I chose fries....can't be too healthy....and they were delicious. My husband had the turkey blt which he loved. We were then talked into sharing a very tasty lemon meringue pie! Recommend it!

Scale of 1-10 (single visit): 7 Food 8 Service 6 Atmosphere 8 Value Good, not great. This is the kind of place I'd throw in for variety, but I wouldn't ever crave it.

My family went for dinner- we all ordered something different. Kids said the mexican was good but our American food was mediocre. I am always worried when the food comes out very quickly. Our food seemed microwaved and the rolls were hard from being microwaved. The green beans were staright out of a can (I can do this at home) and the staff was neither rude nor friendly. Seemed very clean. Wouldn't return, would probably just try another place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
