I've lived in Sedona for more than 25 years and have watched uptown businesses come and go. The Black Cow Cafe has been around for a while now. I think it took over a little mom and pop ice cream shop that was at the same location for many years. I hadn't tried BCC for sometime but when my wife and I found ourselves with our 8 year old nephew and a couple of other youngin's on a very hot day at the pool, a cool ice cream sounded more than inviting. When we arrived around 3pm the place was moderately busy but our wait was minimal. We all sampled a few different flavors before deciding what we wanted. The kids all got waffle cones with various flavors but I decided to order a chocolate lovers sundae which I thought I could share with my wife until I saw that it was only one reasonably sized scoop of homemade chocolate. Definitely made for one/ My wife wanted her own so she ordered a cappuccino sundae. After paying a pretty hefty tab for ice cream, we moved out front to the benches to people watch while enjoying our cool treats. BCC's homemade ice cream is VERY good . . . high quality . . . creamy, not icy and full of flavor. Sure it's way overpriced but so are most commercial rentals in Sedona. Uptown is prime real estate and anything sold there is reflected in the price. I've had equally good ice cream and generally prefer gelato but BBC's flavors are quite good. Their selection is somewhat limited but keep in mind that their store is not large . . . it only contains perhaps a half dozen tables inside. I have not tried their self touted $5 hot dogs primarily because I don't usually pay that much even for a "gourmet" hot dog unless I'm at a baseball game! I believe BCC is part of a small restaurant conglomerate that also owns and operates The Cowboy Club, The Silver Spur (also both uptown) and the Barking Frog located on the west side of town. They are all well managed and reasonably good eateries and like most other Sedona restaurants are probably 10% higher than they should be. Try BCC's homemade ice cream. It's quite good.

This place will do the trick it you want ice cream. It's been better than the ice cream shops around the same area. It definitely smells better than it tastes. I go here whenever I'm in Sedona. Definitely worth a try. The tin roof and mocha latte sundaes are both delicious.

If i could give this place 10 stars I would!!!! They have the best home made waffle cones I have ever had in my life!!!!!! I had the strawberry ice cream and the creamy goodness matched with the fresh crisp crunch of the cone was just devine. I don't imagine every being this satisfied by a waffle cone again in my life. When people say they have the best they are not joking. It was the best treat in town! :)

Nice place, decent seating, no restrooms. Good coffee, pies looked amazing. The location had a cool old soda shop feel to it. Great location and the staff was friendly. Would recommend this coffee shop.

Stay away from the hot dog. It did not make anyone ill, it was just absolutely repulsive. Thanks!

Walked in around 30 minutes before closing. Awesome list of options, but I wasn't feeling to adventurous so I just ordered a strawberry milkshake while the GF ordered a banana milkshake. They also had sorbet for my vegan brother who ended up ordering a fruit smoothie essentially. Yum! Ice cream :)

Great spot for an afternoon piece of homemade pie. We had cherry and apple crumble with ice cream and both were delicious. I think it's worth a visit.

THE BEST WAFFLE CONE I HAVE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE. I wish I was short winded enough to just leave it at that. However, how can i not mention that the reason the waffle cones are amazing is that they're made fresh everyday (you can smell them a mile away) and totally compliment the ice cream which is also homemade. It's no surprise that this is Sedona's best ice cream because it's fresh, creamy and totally natural. My taste buds were spoiled and I'm not sure how I will eat regular ice cream anyomore :(! I would say this is a MUST VISIT if you're ever in Sedona.

On a rainy, cold afternoon, I got lured in here by the smell of fresh waffle cones being made. My friend and I both got the same thing, the butter pecan ice cream in a waffle cone, and we were happy we did. I loved the salty-sweetness, and they didn't skimp on the pecans. Now imagine how good it must taste on a warm, sunny day!

Oh yeah Ice Cream!! I typically eat Vegan but make exceptions for Ice Cream and this was really good. I tried Prickly Pear Cactus the first night- it was kind of weird but OK. The malted vanilla was very very good. Chocolate Chip cookies were very good too! All home made and very good portions!! Hint- park up the street from the visitors center as there are plenty of spaces- parking on the main strip is near impossible.

  • Sabrina S.

Deeeeelish!!! The peppermint was to die for and they have an out of this world strawberry sorbet if you happen to have a vegan friend with you. I just wish they would have stayed open until 9 p.m. as their hours are listed on yelp. We tried to go there two nights in a row and they were closed way before 8 p.m. A little bit of a bummer when you're craving for a tasty treat. Other than that it was amaze!!!!

Pathetic service. The guy who served us literally (scrawny teenager with an unkept beard) had an indifferent attitude and was literally throwing the ice cream cups at the customers!! I ordered a double scoop cup and the amount of ice cream would not even amount to one single scoop !! Avoid this place .. Go to the other ice cream shop if you want decent ice cream and good service.

Love the ice cream here! Service was friendly and patient, too! There were three servers in front, plus a waffle-cone maker (yes, they make the waffle cones here) and a fifth person working in the back. They were quick to work the line, and when I asked server #1 if the ice cream and hot caramel contained corn syrup, server #2 told her exactly who would know the answer-- not the usual response of staring blankly back at me and saying "Uh, I don't know" and not making any effort in finding the answer. You may sample the flavors before making your choice. I left the store to find the rest of my party, and when they appeared a few minutes later, we didn't have to wait in line for too long before server #2 called out to me and asked if we were ready to order, even though a few people had lined up before us! Sweet! Seattle's Best Coffee is served here, as well as hot dogs, other sandwiches, pastries, shakes, and sundaes. Had the scoops NOT been so small (and even smaller for little children, for the same price) and the waffle bowls a little fresher (parts NOT touching the ice cream felt stale when we bit into them), I'd rate this visit 4.5 (rounding up to 5) stars. Not too shabby for our first visit, though!

Had a late-night ice cream craving while vacationing in Sedona I arrives at 854, the yelp profile and the sign on the door clearly says they're open till 9pm all three or four employees ignored my existence and pretended I was not there despite the fact that could have easily helped me out with my ice cream needs. Nothing worse then false advertising, now I'll never return

Walking around touristy Sedona and Bathia wants ice cream. I want pie. My phone search says there is no pie to be found. We go into Black Cow and there in their case is not one but four different types of pies. Asking who makes their pies I am told the owners wife does. I get Cherry and have it warmed up. This is good pie. As for ice cream I like malts shakes. Suddenly my wife calls me over and what do they have..... Vanilla Malt Ice Cream!!! She got that on a cone. The ice cream was amazing in taste and texture. What can I say, great pie and ice cream all in the same place, WINNER!!!

Yuck, yuck, and yuck. I had the sundae with coffee ice cream, chocolate shavings, whipped cream, and hot fudge sauce. The ice cream had ice crystals, which was a let down because it boasts the ice cream is freshly made daily. The whipped cream was overly sweet. The sundae was poor in quality. Avoid this place.

amazing hot dog baked in a French baguette. We stopped here to fuel before hitting the hiking trails in Sedona. This was a great choice. The Hot Dog was best I've had in quite some time. Others in our party had the sandwiches and some even had the ice cream. Everything was fresh, excellent and the staff was very friendly. I would come back here anyday!

Homemade ice cream when you're stuck out in the Arizona desert heat is probably the most refreshing, sweet treat you could ask for. I could not pass up the prickly pear or the waffle cone and both did the job! The prickly pear flavor was not overpowering. The texture was creamy the way I like my ice cream. It's a definite must try! The waffle cone was thicker than your average, but you can really taste the waffle in it. Thanks Sedona and Black Cow Cafe, you were a lovely afternoon. I felt like a little kid so happy with my ice cream. Take your ice cream outside to admire the beautiful view.

It has come to my attention that this place has become a must-see location for my husband. And by "must-see", I really mean "must-eat". I think it physically pains him to have to drive past it at any point during our Sedona trips, even if he knows we'll be hitting it up later in the day. I see his side-eye as he slows for traffic and his hands grip the wheel. I'm pretty sure he might have even drooled a few times. He may have even mumbled something involving "malted vanilla ice cream". Can't say I blame him. I'm crazy about their peppermint chocolate chip ice cream. It's the perfect accoutrement for a slow walk around the shops. Or to eat while chatting with one of the cowboys on the sidewalk. Or while tourist watching. Or to feed your dog. Just kidding, don't feed your dog chocolate chips. But maybe bring him a Beggin' Strip so he doesn't get too jealous.

Stopped in as we had just finished lunch and were on our way to the chamber of commerce to get information on where to climb and hike in Sedona. Had to order the prickly pear since it seemed to be a local flavor with the homemade waffle cone. We were stuffed from lunch but the smell of the fresh waffles wafted to our nose and drew us in. The waffle cone did not disappoint. It was crispy and fragrant and the home made prickly pear ice cream was super rich and creamy.

I had the Famous Black Cow Special...basically a root beer float, taken up a few notches with homemade french vanilla ice cream and draft root beer. I absolutely loved it!!! My husband had iced coffee and my in-laws both got ice cream in a giant waffle cone. All of us really enjoyed our treats. After hours of sightseeing and hiking, it's fun to enjoy a cold dessert in quaint, albeit touristy, downtown Sedona. The only negative was that the line was verrry long. However, the line stays that way all day so they have perfected the art of moving things along quickly. Glad we stopped by!

Very good ice cream and waffle cones. Pies are ok. Worth a trip if you are in Sedona.

Great little cafe in Uptown Sedona. Not as touristy as a lot of the places in uptown.

Stopped in here on a hot day and enjoyed a world class hot fudge sundae. They also have hot dogs and other stuff so come on in, get out of the heat, and enjoy!

Our family stopped here for ice cream right after our scary hike to Cathedral Rock. It was refreshing especially since we were sweating. I got the espresso which was good with the waffle cone. My brother got a smoothie with pina colada which wasn't so good. I recommend that you stick with the ice cream.

This place smells absolutely great when you walk inside. I got a scoop of prickly pear ice cream in a waffle bowl and my girlfriend got a malted vanilla ice cream in a waffle bowl. The ice cream is pretty good, not bad but can get pretty sweet, especially the malted vanilla. I thought it is just so pricy for ok icecream. One scoop and I paid almost 5 bucks. I should have gotten a bowl instead of a a waffle bowl because the waffle bowl was pretty stale and really hard to eat. Not worth it.

The milk shakes were average but what was killer was the price. 17 dollars for 3 milk shakes. Yikes!

  • Noemi V.

Home made pastries and ice cream. We just got coffee, though. Reasonably priced. Coffee's just OK. Located in Uptown Sedona- its location's great. Just grab a cup of coffee, cross the street and sit behind those other business and sip your coffee while you look at the mountains (which are specially pretty during sunset!).

I can't get over how awesome the employees are. Yesterday's crew was awesome and today's was even more awesome. Amazing, lovely, and lively service ... not to mention the chocolate covered macaroons were Fn amazingly delish!

If you're in Sedona and craving ice cream this is the place to go. A friend and myself were in Sedona and wanted nothing other than ice cream, but everywhere we went just had the same ol flavors which just weren't jumping out at us. This was the first place we went to with any sort of variety (although all in all most of their flavors are still very classic, they just had more). I had the malted vanilla ice cream and would definitely get that again if I'm in the area. Even if you're not in the mood for ice cream go into this place just to take a smell. AMAZING! Your nose will tingle with sheer delight (as cheesy as it sounds its quite true). Fresh waffle cones were baking when I was there and the cases were filled with delicious looking deserts.

  • Geumnari C.

Malted vanilla is the best! Their whip cream is homemade!!!! Yum! I also love their espresso sundae. I enjoy coming here every time I am in the area. I almost forgot about their pie!!! Deliciously homemade!!!

Forgive me channeling Rachael Ray, but yum-o! I only found this little place because I was lost in the driving rain. Starving and hopeless, I threw my car into a spot and cruised the 89 looking for somewhere to eat. Great service, tasty sandwiches and ice cream, and some darn good looking pies. I'm a sucker for anybody offering food on ciabatta rolls, so the option to get my sandwich on a ciabatta (for the same price as wheat!) was muchly appreciated. Reasonable prices too.

  • Brad M.

I give Black Cow Cafe a 5 star for their ice cream. Everything is homemade in store! The flavors of my "expresso" were rich and creamy and complex. My four kids loved what they ordered as well (Sorbet, peppermint chip, etc.). We all had ice cream for the most part (party of nine... friends with kids too) but were very tempted by all of the fresh baked goods. The pricing is slightly below average for what you would expect in a tourist town with home made ice cream. I highly suggest you try Black Cow if you are craving some ice cream and you find yourself in Sedona.

  • Michael J.

Walking around Sedona, we smelled the aroma of waffle cones emitting from Black Cow Cafe and had to stop in and check things out. The space feels kind of cramped with no real flow for a line formation. The ice cream was homemade and very good. I opted for a cookie. Looked homemade and tasted like it was a day old. Would have been better if it was a little softer. Good spot, but probably will not be our first stop the next time thru Sedona.

Typical fast food. Just decent. Good flavor. Nice outdoor patio but a typical fast food restaurant. Order was turned around and the register clerk could have cared less.

We went to the Black Cow Cafe at the recommendation of our Pink Jeep tour guide. I generally assume that a local always has the insider information about the best food-- but failed to realize that a local who grew up in South Dakota has different ideas about "great food" than a spoiled foodie from Southern California. As we approached, I grew excited over a sign claiming "World's Best Hot Dog". A lofty claim. While the hot dog was unique, served inside a french baguette, it wasn't the best I've ever had. The only toppings offered were ketchup, mustard, and relish. It was $5 and came with a side of original Lays. The rest of the menu was very limited. There aren't many options if you aren't in the mood for a hot dog. The Black Cow did live up to it's claim of "Sedona's Best Homemade Ice Cream" during my stay. I chose the regional specialty "Prickly Pear" ice cream. It was excellent and was made more delicious by the fact that I could watch them making fresh new ice cream as I ate.

Charming ice cream shop with homemade ice cream. Had their homeade apple pie a la mode with malted vanilla ice cream which were quite good. They also have a prickly pear ice cream which taste kind of like a light berry flavored ice cream. I forgot to use my "VIP" card that they give you from the timeshare, but they'll give you a 10% discount with it.

  • Jennifer L.

The ice cream wasn't my favorite but their homemade pie....to die for. I had the cherry pie and was so full but continued to eat it. It was one of the best cherry pies I've ever had. I had the malted vanilla ice cream after reading some yelp recommendations, it wasn't bad but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again. I also tried the prickly pear and was unimpressed. My friend had espresso and that was actually pretty tasty but I don't know if I could have eaten an entire scoop of it. The rest of their baked goods looked awesome too! I wish I would have tried more of them! The service was ok. The girls behind the counter were pretty young and didn't seem like they knew what was going on.

The smell of waffle cones baking and sign for pie pulled us inside this cute touristy cafe, only to be sorely disappointed by 16 year olds with lack of business acumen. If a customer is willing to spend $25.00 for a cherry pie and is told "no" because it's their last one and you have to call ahead, that is a recipe for losing a customer. I will be back to Sedona but not at this poorly run establishment.

ICE CREAM! To cool off we stopped in for a scoop or two. The smell of fresh coffee and ice cream was devilishly delicious. We, I say we because on your birthday it is your right to try a bit of everyone's choice, had the Belgian chocolate on a sugar cone in a cup and Old Fashioned Vanilla ice cream in a sugar cone. They were both delicious, yes I sampled them both even without the kids approval, it was my birthday. The Black Cow Cafe also had delicious looking pies, cookies & cakes! There was a coffee barista, but it was too warm for coffee for us.

My husband got the coffee freeze and it was soooo good!

  • Ron G.

Very good ice cream. This place was recommended by a local and it didn't disappoint. We had Oreo, Prickly Pear, Chocolate, and Vanilla (cup, sugar, and waffle cones). Everyone enjoyed their ice cream. It was fresh and creamy.

    (5)
  • Jennifer L.

$5 hot dogs may have been worth it, if what we received was what was advertised on the sign outside. Instead of a frank "encased in a toasted baguette," it was wedged in a regular bun that was cut in half. When we asked about the difference, the 15 year year old clerks told us that they didn't know how to make the hot dogs as advertised outside. They were impatient and frustrated. Just a terrible experience.

Homemade Ice Cream with Sedona as a backdrop? Who could ask for anything more? Nice ice cream parlor/bakery/coffee bar in the heart of Sedona. Simple decor, delicious home made ice cream.

Cute place ice cream ok ... Peanut butter pie good .... I gave 2 stars bc service was horrible 3 employees 2 busy talking like they at a cub while a line forms, finally when I get my ice cream the guy gives it to me in a flat paper plate maybe that's Sedona style I wanted toppings but he put the plate on the counter and didn't t ask if I wanted toppings or give me a chance to ask,,, service was so bad I just wanted out of there ....very disappointed would NOT recommend....

  • Barney A.

Had a wonderful experience with my family. We came here for the homemade ice cream. I ended up having a slice of apple pie a la mode. Nothing to rave about but the ice cream was fresh and the flavor was nice. Pie was just ok. Everyone else was very happy with their choices. This place won't blow you away, but I definitely recommend it while in Sedona.

Malted Vanilla ice cream in a waffle bowl... It's a big YES!

    (4)
  • Luz V.

Skip it. Husband would balk if I only gave one star because he loved the chocolate malt that I picked up for him, but service was bad. Both clerks seemed annoyed by me simply for being a customer.

  • Brenda B.

I love the ice cream from this place, like most of the lasting shops in Sedona, been coming here for years, and have never been disappointed by the ice cream at this one. I have never eaten here , so I can't answer for the food, but the ice cream is awesome .

    (4)
  • Lizzie C.

    Busy tourist attraction.

    (3)
  • Karen D.

The ice cream is made from scratch and you don't even have to walk in to smell the whip cream and waffle cones. Everyone who walks by comments on the aroma. I recommend the espresso flavor.

    (4)
  • Sam M.

I went there to try their ice cream and when I told the employe what flavor I wanted she responded that it was hard to scoop. Um, isn't it part of your job to scoop ice cream? Disappointed, ended up heading across to Cold Stone where they don't have a problem selling their product.

    (1)
  • Lucy L.

I was never a huge fan of ice cream, but after having a bite of there delicious butter pecan ice cream and homemade waffle cone I was hooked. Went back everyday after that!

    (4)
  • Laurie L.

Only giving two stars because I'm comparing this to other homemade ice cream places and this isn't nearly as tasty. The flavor of my esspresso ice cream was mostly sweet. Just finished my daughter's oreo and same thing, sweet. The hot fudge had a good texture and the whipped cream was homemade.

    (2)
  • Michelle B.

I love me some home made ice cream so I had to stop by when I saw the "Homemade Ice Cream" sign at the front of the store. There was a decent selection of flavors available and after a few samples, my bf and I decided on the malted vanilla. Their malted vanilla tastes like a whopper minus the funky texture of that candy. Yum! We ended up sharing a single scoop on a waffle cone which is just enough to savor the creamy goodness without getting sick of the taste. It was a little under $5 but the portion was huge it was enough to satisfy our sweet tooth and ruin our appetite for dinner.

    (3)
  • Hannah G.

This place has the best ice-cream in Sedona by far (unless you like the taste of fake, processed Cold Stone). Support local businesses!

  • Kari F.

Just indulged in a mocha latte sundae and a cafe latte! The sundae was amazing! Espresso ice cream topped the hot fudge chocolate shavings and real whipped cream! Extremely good! I was a little skeptical about the latte but it was absolutely delicious! Great foam and great tasting coffee! This is must stop at place!

Went here August 29 , after just arriving in town very excited to be on vacation and try the black cow cafe after reading the recommendations in my Sunset magazine and was helped by the rudest , snotty little blonde girl begind the counter, she was so unhelpful and plain nasty we were schocked. We will never go in there again there are to many other ice cream shops in town that are tourist friendly.

    (1)
  • Ernie S.

The best malted vanilla ice cream around. Homemade prickly pear, belgian chocolate, strawberry, and malted vanilla always hit the spot in Arizona. Skip on the food and go for the ice cream!

    (5)
  • Albert H.

Beer-style draft Root Beer is always a nice treat, even if you don't order the ice cream float. Several flavors of ice cream (this isn't the place with 31 flavors, sorry) but were very good from sampling I did. Polite service, and typical tourist town prices. Great little stop for a treat while doing the tourist shopping. If you have kids or you're with someone else with kids this might just get them to shut up for awhile.

  • Diana o.

I tried the malted vanilla ice-cream as recommended by another Yelper and it was delicious! I had a scoop of that plus chocolate ice-cream. The two together was perfect. We went around 7:30 pm and sat outside eating our ice-cream. It was a perfect way to end the day. Highly recommended,.

Cute shop. Saw the sign for world's famous hot dog. Its a Dog in a baguette. Good thing is the condiments stay in the baguette but keeps getting pushed to the bottom. Not bad a must try at least once I would say.

This place is just fine. The ice cream is good, but nothing special. I got the Cookies and Cream. Service was indifferent - not rude, but not necessarily friendly either.

Found this place driving through uptown Sedona. The sign caught our attention - home-made ice-cream! I got the chocolate in a sugar cone. It was yummy - def stop in if you need a snack!

  • Henry S.

We came to Black Cow after our pink jeep tour for a late afternoon snack. This place had a long line so it must be good right? Lets just say I was slightly disappointed. First let me say that I ordered the Apple Pie Ala Mode and my wife got a smoothie...both items came to about 12 dollars. Yes the ice cream was good but the apple pie was nothing special. The wife said her smoothie was good but it wasn't $5.00 dollar good. Overall this place was ok. For what we spent I thought it would be better.

Prickly Pear ice cream in a waffle cone. What more can I say? I look forward to this treat on my yearly visit to Sedona. The scoop is enormous and I doubt I could even finish a double serving. Very good waffle cone with a lot of crunch. Service was quick and friendly. We were offered samples of whatever we cared to try.

  • Yee Gan O.

On a hot hot day just after a jeep tour up the hot and dusty Schnelby Road, the ice creams and cold drinks at Black Cow were just what we needed. The scoops were generous enough to justify the $4.95 for 2 scoop price. Not froyo but cold enough to satisfy!

  • Pete S.

Ice cream was ok. Kinda taste like 2% milk was used. Not very rich like home made ice cream. Place was clean and people were nice.

BEST ICE CREAM IN SEDONA! They make it from scratch. They have a convenient location in Uptown Sedona. They even make their own waffle cones. If you are looking to try something different, try the Prickly Pear ice cream - it's pretty good and made from the native Prickly Pear cactus juice. Take it from a local - try this place out!

It will do when the ice cream bug hits, but boy did I miss my cold stone and yogurt-land while in Sedona. They have homemade ice cream and desserts, smoothies for $3.95, Frozen yogurt (but flavors were just chocolate, vanilla, twist) for $2.75 5oz; Single scoops of ice cream for $3.50, sandwiches and espresso. Ice cream flavors came in: prickly pear pretty good but a bit too creamy), peppermint chip (yumm-o), butter pecan (even better), espresso swirl (a bit rich, but would be good if in the mood), sorbet, strawberry, oreo.

  • Jamie R.

Amazing apple pie. So good we had to go back three times in two days to get it. Yeah, THAT good.

    (5)

Ice cream in the desert is crucial. Black Cow has a leg up by simply existing. Yummy coldstone-mixed ice cream! Def recommend.

3.5 stars actually. Excellent belgian chocolate and very good French vanilla ice cream. Loses out in that waffle cone was just ok. Gf had a cherry pie, which she liked.

Didn't realize Sedona shuts down at 9:00., the young lady that unlocked the door (Nov 12) so that we could have a cup of coffee and a slice of apple pie, this review goes out to you. The coffee and especially the apple pie was very good. Thanks..

I can only comment on the ice cream as I didn't try the dog. The ice cream was excellent. I had the malted vanilla and would definitely recommend it. I'm giving it 3 stars because of the prices. Three single scoops = $13+.

Tried the hot dog and ice cream. Hot dog is not worth the money. However, the ice cream is great!! The sundaes have a generous amount of sauce applied. There are also pies which looked yummy but hey--the sign outside says ice cream!!!

The ice cream was delicious, there's no doubt about that. The homemade waffle cones were just as good. However, the staff was a huge letdown. There were three young teenagers working when we went in and none of them seemed to want to be there all that much, let alone care there were any customers. There was one young man at the cash register, slumping over and tapping his fingers looking as disinterested as one could possibly be. No one likes being at work, but come on! There was another young girl who was the ice cream scooper, I suppose, and she was okay, quick to grab her scooper and wait our orders as soon as we walked in the door but got impatient after about five seconds and stood there waiting seeming pretty annoyed as we looked at the (limited) flavor selection. One other girl came out from the backroom and actually had the nerve to-in front of customers-consult the scooper girl on a cell phone text message she was composing. Again I say, come on! Once we gave our orders though, we were served and rang out in record time so at least that's something. The menu overall seemed decent though we didn't really look over much as we were only in for ice cream. At least that was satisfactory. Should we desire ice cream in Sedona again, we will likely try another place because friendly staff is just as important to a business as the food they serve. But I don't necessarily think this is a place to be avoided.

If you need to go out for ice cream while in Sedona (a need I can sympathize with, especially in the heat of summer), this would be the place. Unfortunately it's rather overpriced (over $3 for a single scoop) and features about eight mostly-standard flavors. Also available --- a few hot dog/chili dog-type options.

Home made ice cream! Not bad, and what a view from the deck outside.

Homemade Ice-Cream OMG this place has everything anyone with a sweet tooth will love,we had a strawberry Sunday which is all homemade, vanilla scoop for my kid and a chocolate chip for my other little one, we also order the half peppermint with pistachio and a pineapple juice. If you go to Sedona try this place you won't regret it, when we live in AZ we use to go to Sedona a lot and this spot is a must when you are there. Try anything they have pie and macaroon and cookies, we didn't have any this time but I can assure you they are delicious. They have milkshake and waffles made in store.

It smelled really good as we walked in, fresh waffle cones. We wanted to get a piece of pie and coffee but they didn't have the banana pie I normally crave, so we opted for iced coffee instead. The only reason we're not giving it more than 3 stars is because we got it free because they ran out of chocolate milk for our Mocha Iced Coffee, so we got a small. The server was really friendly and made it an experience worth writing about. Other than that, their options are pretty small. Small counter with some pies, and then a few options for ice cream. From the menu, looks like they also do sandwiches. It's right down towards the end of the road, or beginning of the road depending on where you're looking, so parking can be a pain if you're just trying to go in and out and not really looking to walk around the area.

Cute little place. Service was overwhelmed but nice enough. Had a Cherry pie with prickly pear ice cream. Tried someone's pecan pie with malted vanilla as well. Also had a house root beer. Other had coffee. I guess I'll separate it by pie, ice cream, and other Pies: Cherry: Pretty sure it was a canned filling but the texture of the pie crust was very, very nice. Overall not bad. Pecan: Similarly good texture though it was burnt in a few places (someone forgot the tin foil, joking.) Filling might be canned but most likely not as it wasn't bad or anything. I make better pecan pie though. Ice Cream: Prickly Pear: Light sweet flavor, pleasant. Not bad. Malted Vanilla: Light malt flavor. Pretty good though. Other Root Beer: Frankly quite solid. Had that good sarsaparilla flavor I love with a good root beer. Excellent. Other person said her coffee was OK.

On our way back home, stopped off in Sedona to stretch our legs. So we surprised the kids and bought them some ice cream. I wanted a apple pie with a scope of vanilla ice cream. Well this is why I gave them a 4-star and not 5. They had no apple, so I ended up having a peach pie instead. It was good! Crust was the best I ever had. Just makes me wonder how good that apple pie would have been. Anyway, kids loved it and thats all that matters.

Black Cow Cafe is an okay place to visit in Sedona, Arizona. Nice location on the main drag through town. The shop is small with a few tables. We have only been to Sedona during off-peak seasons so there has not been any crowds here. I imagine that they must be very busy during summertime. Here is a rundown of what we tried. The ice cream was pretty good. They let you sample. Got to try what my wife ordered which was the Prickly Pear and another flavor. 3.25 stars for the ice cream. I ordered a slice of Pecan pie. It wasn't too bad. Better than average. I'd try something else in the future. (3.25 stars) Service was 2 stars. The service provided by the two employees was not extremely unfriendly. They both did not seem to be very happy that our group of 7 was at their shop, though. They both seemed to just want us to leave. At least, that was my impression. The others in our group ignored them, and we still all had fun at their shop. Would I return? Well, even though, I felt that the service was below average.....I'd still return as a tourist. I am curious to try the "World's Best Hot Dog" as advertised at their place.

Fantastic homemade ice cream - highly recommend the malted vanilla and peppermint chip! We were not huge fans of the "world's best hot dog" - it was good but not worth the price.

The Black Cow Cafe was a short walk from my hotel. I had just bought some takeout from a Thai place not far away and wanted some dessert for later. When I entered the cafe, there was a medium sized line inside. The place smelled like the waffle cones that they make from scratch. After a bit of waiting I got two scoops of prickly pear ice cream in a waffle bowl. I was thinking that the scoops would be small but they were great generous scoops of homemade, natural, non-chemical goodness! I saved my ice cream in my hotel freezer and ate it after dinner. The prickly pear ice cream was something I've never had before, but very good!

The best prickly pear ice cream I've had! My hubby got pie a la mode with apple crisp pie and ice cream, the place is small and gets packed but the service is fast!

I love their malted vanilla and their homemade strawberry ice cream... it's a little pricey, but come on it's Sedona!! And it's quality is worth the price! Smells so good when you walk in.. missing it right now.. been coming here since I was a kid.

Ice cream! This little shop in Sedona has some tasty ice cream and wonderful waffle bowls. We couldn't decide between two flavors so the gal behind the counter gave us a half and half single scoop (which was in all honesty 2 scoops, come on), which we really appreciated. We got butter pecan and caramel and it was fantastic. Will be back!

If you are going hiking stop here and grab a sandwich and yummy cookie to take along. Their ice cream sundae and cones are amazing. No dine in but plenty of benches outside.very reasonably priced.

Great little spot for ice cream or pie. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced for Sedona. Seating is limited, but chances are you're in a hurry to get to your Reiki healing nearby anyway. Ice cream is the true path to enlightenment. Correct that. Perhaps the true path to heavy, not light. My favorite feature of the Black Cow Café? The "Cow Tipping" tip jar, usually only seen in the Midwest.

Best ice cream in Sedona. You don't get Blue Bunny or other ice cream made somewhere else, like you do at the other places in town. You may only have 12-16 flavors, but they are good. The prickly pear is a must have. The waffle cones are the right size for a scoop, not like other places that are wayyyy too large unless you're getting 3 scoops. I have not done the pie a la mode, but I hear it is awesome. The only complaint would be in the time it sometimes takes when it is packed full of customers. A bit better system to cycle customers thru would be needed.

These are very nice folks here. They make a great cappuccino in addition to serving ice cream and home made pies.. Easy to access in Uptown Sedona.

Went here to get ice cream and there was a line to the door. The aroma of fresh waffle cones filled the air. It was rather warm waiting in line, unless we were right under one of the ceiling fans. I debated whether it was worth the wait, but ultimately it was. I got to sample the strawberry ice cream and went with a scoop of Oreo in a waffle cone. It was yummy! Also tried my boyfriend's Black Cow (root beer float) and it was good too. The workers were nice and we enjoyed our ice cream.

Delicious homemade ice cream! We had the Prickly Pear and the Oreo both in waffle cones. The Prickly Pear was perfect. Incredibly creamy and not overly sweet. The Oreo had a generous serving of Oreo cookies and again, was very creamy. There are a few benches outside that are perfect for people watching while you devour your ice cream! Great place in Uptown Sedona!

This place makes the most amazing coffee. The latte is to die for. They make the best coffee in town and they are an ice cream shop. They also have pretty incredible homemade desserts. There ice cream is good but not awesome. It is however homemade as well. I love this Mom and Pop shop and I can't come to Sedona without getting a latte from there and a yummy treat. Definitely worth the stop every time!!!

We tried this place on our recent trip to Sedona. We were recommended this place especially for the prickly pear ice cream, so off we went. Upon entering the place, it was a bit crowded with both locals and tourists looking customers. Understandably so due to the 97 degree weather. Everyone in my party of 5 ordered the prickly pear ice cream on sugar cones. Each scoop was $4 and change. I thought the ice cream was just ok. I didn't find it particularly out of this world. Just ok ice cream on a hot day. That being said, I don't think it's worth the $4 and change per scoop. The scoop was just a regular scoop unlike the other ice cream joints that charge you that much, but it's a big portion of artisan type ice cream. However, it is as I've been told a must try. So with that said, it's worth to try it at least once. Will I try it again after my first try, probably not. The credit card machine was broken that day, so bring cash just in case.

Apple pie crumble ala mode was pretty good, nice and fresh. The hot chocolate was almost all foam and whipped cream, it tasted really watery. When I asked for another shot of chocolate the girl behind the counter begrudgingly said " I mean I guess I can just remake them", she was quite annoyed. We usually never give things back but this was really subpar. We'd try it again, but service definitely wasn't good.

This is a quaint home made pie and ice cream shop located in Uptown Sedona. I ordered: -Single (1/2 vanilla malt 1/2 belgian chocolate) -Slice of the peanut butter pie. Both were a little pricey but delicious! A "tight" single scoop ~$5 and normal size pie slice ~$4. PROS: Location, delicious CONS: Pricey

I really wanted to like this place. What not to love about this little cute place with homemade ice cream and pies? Well... Service was excellent. Very attentive and friendly staff. I thought the price was reasonable but my ice cream was... Not so impressive-- maybe it was their off day...??

The smell is pretty good when you walk up I do have to admit. I got a double scoop of espresso swirl in a waffle bowl and my mom got the hot fudge sundae. She didn't like hers very much. It wasn't spectacular and the whipped cream was way too sweet. I liked what I got except that it wasn't fresh. The sign says "homemade and fresh" but there was ice crystals in mine and it seemed old. But it had really really good flavor and the homemade waffle cone was amazing!

Honestly, they could do much better. This place has a line out the door because of its prime location across from pink jeep tours. The ice cream is basic. The sundaes were sub par. The need to add a little creativity to their menu. They ran out of waffle cones at 2pm. You're an ice cream shop. How do you run out of waffle cones? The ice cream was good but I don't think it is what keeps them in business.

We stopped in here looking for something sweet. The line was to the door so we figured it must be good. Price for a slice of apple pie is over 4.00. We settled on a peanut butter cookie and milk chocolate shake. Shake was good, Peanut butter cookie was ok. I can make better ones at home. Not sure why the line was so long, or why they are so popular.

Good local cafe. Ice cream is made fresh daily. Had some espresso swirl, very tasty. The family tried a few others and they enjoyed it. I also saw some folks getting a sandwich, ver generous portion. Root beer on tap is locally made.

I stopped by here after dinner. They offer homemade ice cream so they don't have very many flavors available. I got a huge waffle cone with an espresso swirl scoop and strawberry scoop. They were generous with the first scoop and stingy on the second. Sad. It was good ice cream, but not great. The espresso was there but it wasn't strong enough for me, and the strawberry was totally average. The waffle cone was great though, and service was polite. My single order was $7 after tip which I wouldn't do ever again. I think if I did a repeat trip, I'd look over the sundaes so I could pretend I was getting my money's worth!

Their ice cream is mediocre at best. For home made, it should be more flavorful. It lacks wow factor. I went there twice in one day, first time I got the above mentioned ice cream, the second time, later in the day I went back for their "World's Best Hot Dog" I stood in line for 20 minutes only to be told that hod dogs were sold out. WTF?! Not one person in front of me got a hot dog, so it's not like they just sold out. A FCUKING sign outside would be nice.
