The places I give four stars to in Heber-Overgaard, are deserving based on their remote location and an adherence to the restaurant idiom; the customer is always right. Casa Ramos isn't the best Mexican food I've hard, but it's the best overall in the Rim Country area! They have great dishes, great flavor, competitive prices, and great service. I go by every visit to Heber!

My husband and I stopped in on a long road trip to place an order to go, but unfortunately the staff was so incredibly rude that we left before we even ordered. After walking in we were greeted by a woman who, after we told her we wanted to place an order to go, proceeded to disappear. The second gentleman strolling by mildly acknowledged us, and then also disappeared, and the third woman who approached us didn't even look at us until she barked, "So, umm, are you ready yet?" "Oh yes are you?" "Umm yeeaaah..." Rolling her eyes was a nice touch. After that we left.

I guess my friends and I hit it here on a bad night. My hosts who live here said that this is the best restaurant around town---I ordered the beef tostado. It came WITHOUT BEEF! I had to send it back and wait for another to be made with beef. My friend always gets the pork carnitas. He could not eat it. It was totally inedible. We told our server how terrible it was but she couldn't take it off our check because the manager wasn't there. She also said that the cooks were new and didn't understand our order or language. My other friend had a combination dish that was okay. I don't live here but I guess they will be back and just order something else. The decor was very bright and colorful. That's the best I can say about it.

Have eaten in this restaurant several times and always enjoyed the food and the service. Last night was the exception, I ordered the Carne Asada plate and the meat was so tough that it was a challenge to cut it with a knife. Very disappointed in the quality of the meat.

Back in town... back to Casa Ramos : ) We had the queso fundido again... which I thought needed a little more queso, but it was still good. We shared a pollo a la crema, and it was delicious, lots of mushrooms... tasty sauce... Good chips and salsa (hot spicy salsa). Rice and beans were very good too, really had a home made taste. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We look forward to stop by again next time we are in town.

It was excellent! The margarita were were delicious! Especially the patron :). Had the seafood enchiladas and were one of the best I've had!

Not great. Not horrible. I had the shredded beef chimi and the beef had no seasoning and the chimi no sauce. It was dry and even adding sour cream didn't help much. Boyfriend had the enchiladas and said they were just ok. Another person in our group reported the mole was really good but 1 out of 3 dishes doesn't exactly make you want to try again. I didn't like the salsa, just personal preference. There are not many choices in this little town but I probably wouldn't try this place again.

I was here this past weekend with my girlfriend and my mother. We were having a weekend getaway at a friends cabin. We wanted a late lunch early dinner so we decided to try this place out. I had never been before but my mom said it was pretty good. It was a nice place. Not too busy. The décor was nice but it seemed like it was someones version of what they thought Mexican décor was but not authentic stuff. I little too cartoony if that makes any sense. The chips were pretty good but the salsa was just ok. Could have been fresh made could have been out of a jar it was hard to tell. I ordered the Super Enchilada and it was good but not super. My girlfriend got a Chimi and said the same thing good but not great. It need sauce covering it or cheese or something, My mom got the Mole Burrito she said it was really good. So maybe I ordered the wrong thing or expect more from food or she is easily impressed. Don't know which. If you want to go out for Mexican and you are in Heber this is pretty much your only choice. For being the only choice it is good. It could be horrible. But in the world of Mexican food it just wasn't impressive. It just didn't have that wow this is really good I would come up here just for this flavor. It was good though and the prices weren't too bad either. So if you are in the area and want some Mexican food go to your one choice just don't expect to be wowed or impressed.

Small town goodness. The margaritas were excellent, fresh, strong. Chips and salsa were tasty, nice and spicy. My enchiladas de crema were awesome and my main man's fried beef tubes (flatuas?) were crispy and highly satisfying. We were too stuffed to try dessert...oh and the service was great. Go there, and leave a nice tip.

Been coming here for a while and I notice the food portions shrinking. Less meat in the entrees and the guacamole is heavily loaded with lettuce. In addition, The service is not good, the lady at the front (owner) couldn't care less about customer service. I ordered a beef dish and got chicken. When I told her, she just stared at me. I had to tell her I wanted the dish I ordered. By the way they now charge for chips and salsa. The first bowl is free, whether you have 1 or 6 people at your table. First Mexican restaurant I've been to that charges for chips and salsa...

Been coming here ford years, but tonight was horrible. Owner at front is not friendly, waiter too is not friendly. Have been waiting for food for 40 minutes. This place is getting worse. No tip tonight. And may be the last time.

Excellent!! Great food, service and atmosphere. So glad we could find at least one good restaurant in this area. Makes up for the bad one. Don't want to name it but it's no "funion"

Good was good, not great. Service was fast and margaritas were good! Good stop on our way down the mountain.

Restaurant was dusty the baseboards were dirty. The food was awful it tasted old and the waitress was very unfriendly. They even charge you extra if you want more chips or salsa. Had to ask for lemon for the ice tea (which when I ordered it I asked for a ice tea with lemon) and for a refill. I will never go back there again.

Well, it's definitely as good as it gets in Heber, that's for sure. We were in town for a family wedding and decided to hit up Casa Ramos prior to the ceremony. My sister wanted to go to the Red Onion, but there was nothing (and I mean NOTHING) vegetarian for me. To avoid a hissy fit, we went here instead, thanks to Yelp. Service was very friendly, and I liked that multiple people came by for refills on drinks, salsa (which was wonderful and spicy), etc. Our adorable teenage server knew quite a bit about the alcoholic beverages and steered us towards the Cadillac margaritas. They were delicious with the Gran Marnier floater, and you could tell they weren't from a bottled mix. Since a previous Yelper raved about the veggie fajitas, I had to go with those. She was right! The mix of mushrooms, peppers and onions were covered in lots of seasoning that really made them taste great. I was going to stop with just two servings on corn tortillas, but I went with a third one as I correctly guessed that the wedding reception wouldn't have an actual vegetarian entree for me. I was stuffed the rest of the day. My brother in law got an enormous plate with three cheese enchiladas. I was surprised he finished the whole thing on his own, but he said he really liked them. The same goes for my sister's chipotle shrimp and my dad's chicken burrito and beef taco. Everyone was really happy with their order. They have a second location in Mesa that I will check out soon. You can see their extensive menu on that Yelp listing.

We regularly drive from our Cave Creek home to our Pinetop home and often time things so we can stop at Casa Ramos. It is Globe quality Mexican in Heber and is always, always good. We first stopped there after noticing there are always a lot of cars out front. It is very busy for good reason! Prices are excellent. The restaurant is just plain good value. Lunch particularly so: order the daily special and two people will easily have a great meal for less than $20. Excellent home made salsa, a good indicator. Excellent, friendly service, and very generous portions, always served piping hot.

Fast service. Great authentic Mexican food. Clean and bright interior. I had the shredded beef. It was moist and flavorful. We will be back.

Good, basic AZ-Sonora Mexican. The standards with a larger seafood selection than a lot of similar restaurants. Not great, but definitely the best option in Heber.

If you're in Heber check this place out. My wife says it has been there for some time but they have expanded. We enjoyed a good deal with the lunch menu, I had Aroz Camarones, delicious. Good food, good prices and a nice break from the road if traveling. An added bonus is they have Carta Blanca, one of my favorite Mexican beers. It's not often we come up but when we do we will be back, thank you Casa Ramos.

This place sucked. The service was terrible. The lady that seated us looked irritated that she had to show us to a table. Our server was inattentive and brought out our food in 5 minute intervals so none of us were eating at the same time. The plates had been sitting under heat lamps and were burning hot. It was absolutely irresponsible of them to bring out plates to a table with children that literally could have burned their skin off. The shredded beef crispy tacos we ordered were stuffed full of beef that was not fresh and was burned. The side of beans had been sitting so long there was a crusty skin on it. Honestly the best thing we ate here was the mint on the way out.

Eat here at least once a month. Good atmosphere and great food. Wait staff top notch. May spend a little $ above other restaurants in town but I believe it's worth it. One of the very few places in town with food and bar. From man with few words. If going to get out of car for lunch or dinner. Eating here is great choice.

We came here based on the Yelp reviews backed up with a recommendation from friends who live in Heber. They were both right on - This place is really good! The service was prompt and friendly. I had a Chicken enchilada and my wife had a Crab enchilada - admittedly not that hard to do - but they were both wonderful. The portions were generous and we left with two boxes for a future lunch. The Chips and Salsa appeared to be home made and the salsa had some real zing. Our friend raves about the margaritas but for this visit we stuck with the dark Negra Modelo beer. It was a surprise to learn that they offered Sopapillas and they were some of the best we've had - don't miss 'em!

Good service, fast not super-friendly, but efficient. Has a clean, nice decor with a few unusual touches you don't see in the chain locations. This place is family run and they started in Heber-Overgaard, then they decided to take on the valley. They have a huge menu with lots of the usual combos. The chips are good with homemade fresh salsa with a kick, one flavor fits all. Prices aren't cheap but the portions are huge. Best best is to split a combo. Had the seafood enchiladas and couldn't finish the rice & beans. Definitely one of the better choices in HO.

As my sister and I were traveling through the mountains of Arizona, we started to feel a bit peckish in the vicinity of Heber. Since we didn't know anything about the area, we decided to stop at the restaurant with the most cars parked outside. Casa Ramos it was! As we walked inside, we were greeted by bright colors and entertaining decor. I couldn't help but laugh at the green shamrocks plastered over the already exciting Mexican theme. We were seated and served up some chips and salsa in no time. Good thing we got there when we did because Casa Ramos filled up with locals in no time. The menu is huge, so take your time. I opted for a "small" plate of an enchilada and a taco, with beans and rice on the side. My sister went for the three enchilada plate. Holy moly, Casa Ramos was not kidding around! Both of our dishes were massive! So much food for the price! And everything was really quite tasty. I was very pleased with our discovery of this place. If you happen to find yourself in the middle of nowhere Heber, Arizona, do stop by Casa Ramos for a surprisingly enjoyable meal!

For a small town like Heber this place is pretty good. It isn't the best Mexican I've ever had but it is tasty. I got the veggie fajitas and they were awesome! My husband usually doesn't care for vegetarian items but he said he was getting them next time. The service was good and the chips and salsa are good as well. My kids love the colorful decor and always comment on it.

I can't come to Heber and not hit up Casa Ramos. This place is top notch. I have a lot of love for the tacky decorations, ambiance, and layout. Not a large place by any means. There are booths and some oddly decorated tables (they decorate for each holiday) and are always friendly. There aren't many restaurant options on the Rim and I need my protein bean fix. The food is quality. By no means the best Mexican food in AZ, but it gets the job done! Service is fast and attentive. The wine is horrible and beers a little flat. I always give Heber restaurants a little more lenience, though, as it's tough in a small town. If you are on the highway and want some food made with love and fast service, give it a try. These local businesses here need some love to keep them going.

After a delightful day at our cabin we decided on Casa Ramos after reading Yelp reviews. Large portion sizes, I would recommend splitting plates. Great fajitas, salsa and Mole. Stay away from piña coladas. Great service.

Heber is definitely one of those towns I wasn't aware existed until I moved to Arizona, so tiny I was surprised it even gets its own name. There's not alot to do there, fish and hike I suppose, but only a handful of restaurants, a dollar store, a hardware store, not much to see really. But what Heber/Overgaard DOES have is some of the best vegetarian fajitas I've ever tasted. The kind that are so good that I am sure my memory is exaggerating their deliciousness, but every time I return to try them they exceed my expectations. Its not super fancy, isn't a dive, is just a standard looking mexican restaurant with the best fajitas I've had anywhere. Casa Ramos, I will never try any other dish you have because your fajitas are so delicious.

Good Mexican food in Heber. The service is always good and the place is usually busy. They definitely have lots of seafood options. Some are better than others. While not my favorite place for Mexican food, it hits the spot after a long day of driving around in the forest. You can always count on a good meal with friendly service.

Went here last night for dinner, again! We love the service and the food. Try the campechana served hot. It's fantastic with so many great seafood items. I also had the chili relleno and it is one if my favorite dishes anywhere. Also, there salsa is wonderful with just the right amount of spicy. The best restaurant up here by far.

Loved this place. Great chips and salsa. And the dinner was served on a GIGANTIC pizza size plate. If i am ever in Heber again, this is the place i will go to every time.

Best option in Heber. After 10 visits- consistently good Mexican fare. Classics like Enchiladas Suizas as well as basics such as chile verde or chile colorado. Watch the margs if you are just passing through and need to drive cause one contains 4 shots. Good beer selection, incl Negra Modelo. Cute decor with hand-painted booths. Courteous, attentive service can slow on busy weekends.

This was a great surprise of a restaurant in Heber. This place was great! I liked the fun, colorful decor inside. The chips and salsa were good and the portions were large. The food was good and we would definitely go back again if in the area.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
