We went to Spot of Tea as a topper to a great three -day weekend getaway in Mobile. We arrived late enough in the day to have brunch or an early lunch. I love a place where I can get a decent breakfast at any time of day! I ordered the Bananas Foster French Toast with scrambled eggs and bacon on the side and a strawberry sweet tea. When our plates arrived I thought I was going to regret ordering what I did because it was such a large portion that was just so beautiful and syrupy-sweet looking on the plate. But I was never more wrong. It was perfect as far as french toast goes. The french toast comes covered in just the right amount of syrup and bananas foster sauce, a sprinkling of confectioners' sugar and pecans and in the middle of the plate, half of a warm banana, which was sliced lengthwise and cooked in more that banana foster sauce. I kid you not when I say it was love at first bite. I don't know how they managed to do it but I had the perfect amount of syrup for the french toast to last me til my last bite. With a main event like the french toast, it was hard to pay attention to the side show of bacon and eggs, but they held their own admirably against the french toast. The eggs were scrambled to perfect fluffiness only needing a sprinkle of salt and pepper. The bacon was cooked flawlessly and was the perfect ratio of meat to fat. The atmosphere was very relaxing despite the almost froufrou decor. And the service, from entering and exiting, was very nice. When we go back to Mobile, I definitely want to go back. Loved it!!

Big, Southern-style portion breakfasts at a fair price, nice wait staff included. Located in downtown Mobile, this place offers a nice area to do people-watching as its in the town square -- across from the cathedral. I was here for a family wedding and the local family told me to check it out from the hotel I was at. Get the raspberry sweet tea. I gorged on that the entire time I was in town. So good. The breakfasts are awesome -- be warned, on the weekends, this place gets jammed.

Huge, heart attack-waiting to happen-on a plate-goodness... Get the Eggs Cathedral, and split it with a buddy, it's a monstrous portion of food. And you will love it. Perfect amount of grease to cure a hangover...However, if you go on a Sunday morning, expect to see the typical Southern church-goers in all their glory. They will give you the stink eye if you look a little disheveled... Don't forget the Strawberry Iced Tea. It's heavenly.

We went there for dinner on May 12th. Bathrooms were filthy, service was horrible, food was just ok. I was given lots of excuses but no apologies for how bad things were. We've eaten there often and I'm not sure what has happened but after our last experience I won't be going back. I hope they find away to turn things around.

I've eaten at SOT twice and both times were very positive experiences. I was welcomed with a smile. The food is fantastic and the service was very good both times. This is my "go to" recommendation if you're going to be in Mobile.

Always a good choice. The food is great and the staff is always gracious.

This is a great place to get brunch on a sunday morning. They have a good sized menu but I have had some mishaps before (shrimp tails in my potatoes, I didn't even order shrimp!) And It's kind of pricey for brunch but it's got a great atmosphere!

This place does have excellent breakfast. It has a great location downtown and I loved the atmosphere. Saturday morning they had a talented jazz singer there. She took requests and made the meal quite relaxing. Sunday there was a great pianist there too. The food was amazing. I got the eggs benedict with hash browns. Strawberry mimosas are awesome if you drink, if not then you should try some flavored tea. The strawberry iced tea is very sweet which isn't really my thing, but would probably be good if you like sweet tea. The one aspect of our meal that wasn't wonderful was the service. My first trip there we had a server who didn't smile once (southern hospitality??) and the second time our server paid very little attention to us. We had to ask for a pitcher of water for our table because he left our glasses empty so often. I would have rated 5 stars if the servers had been more on their game. Even so, I will likely visit again before my trip to Mobile is over.

it has been about two years since we ate here so .. take this how you will ... we still talk about the food here! and drool when we dream about going back. my husband had the seafood benedict .. HUGE chunks of REAL crab and other seafood. great flavor and texture. i had a french dip. i didnt leave a crumb. we had strawberry tea - not too sweet and great strawberry flavor - not a fake syrup flavor. make this a must to your visit to mobile! and sit outside on the patio -

A great place for lunch. Prices were reasonable and food was very good. Good service also. Would definately recommend to others in the Mobile Downtown area.

The breakfast menu has selections for the persons looking for a more refined meal, however you can still get the usual eggs, pork, toast as well. I enjoyed the food but even more was the chance to eat Al fresco(dine outside). I felt the prices were a bit high for the first meal of the day, but could also be due to the fact that in Mobile you can pretty much drink til the a.m. and by that point I still was drunk now broke and had a bit of a chip on my shoulder.

Love the chicken salad; the seafood omelet for brunch is awesome; good service reasonable prices nice atmosphere

I was visiting my husband in Mobile and having a hard time finding places to eat. The reviews for Spot of Tea were ok so I thought we'd try it. I honestly didn't love it. I had the crab bisque and is was WAY too rich. My husband had the Monte Cristo which he really enjoyed. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing.

Before going to Spot of Tea, advertising and such made it seem much nicer than it really is. The food is toooo rich, which other Yelpers have commented on. I had an item under the breakfast menu, which was just an English muffin covered with a thick fattening sauce with seafood. Not much flavor, I just remember it was like eating an English muffin with Velveeta cheese on top. I really did want to like it though!

I live in Seattle and Spot of Tea was found via the Internet and also a friend in Mobile recommended it. I hosted a Tea Party in honor of my Mom who would have been 75. Donna was delightful to work with and everything was perfect. Food was so yummy...scones, strawberry infused butter...Baked Potato Soup and the best Chicken Salad! Will definitely return to try out many of the delicious choices on the menu! A great location and fun staff. Thank you for making our day so wonderful!

Well another disapointing adventure in Mobile dining. The service was very good that's the only reason for the 3 stars. The food is 2 stars at best.My wife and I ordered Eggs Benidict for breakfast after Easter Mass. English muufin with country ham ( should candadian bacon) poached eggs ( should be cooked medium) and hollindaise sauce ( should be light and full of flavor). We ended up with 4 eggs all poached but 4 diifferent stages of doneness. From hard yoke to barely cooked. The ham was good but greasy and the hollindaise was out of a can or jar. Not fresh or flavorful. The "hash browns" are actually home fries. My wife's were done and mine were barely cook almost raw. Very greasy also. The food came out fast but was not fresh out hot. Meaning everything is cooked in advance and then assembled. Except for the hollindaise the dish could be made from scartch in 5 mins. Hollindaise another 10mins. I would rather wait for fresh well prepared food than food assembled like fast food. For 12 bucks I expected better. We will probably go back and try something different.

Very pleasant, a little pricey, but the quality and quantity are first rate. If the weather is nice, the sidewalk tables are quite appealing.

GET THE CAJUN TOMATO BISQUE. It is - without a doubt - the best tomato based soup I've ever tasted. After surgery a few years ago - it was the only thing I wanted to eat. I sent my husband to buy a gallon and existed solely on this soup for 5 days. And yet - I never tire of it. It has a touch of cayenne and cinnamon - which sounds weird - but delivers an incredible taste. In my opinion this is also one of the better places in Mobile for breakfast - especially if you're looking for a little more than scattered, smothered and covered!

    (4)
  • Amme P.

Holy moley!! BIG portions!!! Not the place to diet. I expect seafood bisque to be rich, but this was like eating mayonnaise. I'm still giving three stars. I don't think I ordered the best thing.

Went here twice over Labor Day weekend. A friend recommended this place since I was staying nearby at the Battle House hotel. It was a quick walk to Spot of Tea, so I stopped in for lunch on Saturday and ordered CJ's Seafood Bisque, which is a bowl of bisque--full of mahi and crab--topped with a piping hot crab cake. It is served with delicious buttery grilled bread. There was a sweetness in the bisque that I couldn't quite put my finger on, but it was fabulous! Everything tasted fresh, but honestly it was a LOT of food. The price was spot on at around $9. The service was very attentive, but the overall theme of this place (decor wise) is a little odd. It's kind of New York deli meets 80's piano bar meets NOLA charm. It's strange, but it doesn't detract from the food. The food was so good, I took my hubby back on Monday (hooray for being open on a holiday!), and he ordered the bananas foster French toast. I ordered the bisque again, because I loved it so much the first time! His plate was full of flavor, but very very sweet. He also tried their signature strawberry tea, which was very light and refreshing. Highly recommend this place!

Love this little local gem in downtown, Mobile. They have some of the best brunch food around. The Eggs Cathedral are incredible and definitely a must try!

  • Kim B.

Really good for breakfast or brunch. I had the monte cristo and it was absolutely delicious. Even though in downtown, we had no problem parking. Close to the cathedral so good for after Sunday mass.

Passing back thru Mobile and I had to stop. Tried the Banana Foster French Toast and I'm so glad I did....The best I've ever had.!!! Southern Hospitality at its best.

  • Sherry T.

First ever bad review, but well deserved. Poached Eggs were so undercooked I was afraid to eat them, hollandaise sauce was the worst I've ever had in my life. Ate a few forkfuls of potatoes (and was charged $.50 for the added onions which were offered at the time of the order!) Even though I did not eat the meal was still charged for it. Tourist trap! Unless you like mediocre cafeteria style food stay away

  • Luke H.

Walked in, sat down quick, ordered, food came out too quick, piano player is creepy! Eggs cathedral was good! They love to up sell everything! Create your own breakfest was good! Don't get the grits!!!!! Unless you like them awesome. Mmmmmmm

Fabulous Brunch; great Eggs Benedict, great Seafood Omelette & Hash Browns and delicious Seafood Bisque with Crab Cake We will return to A Spot of Tea

  • Katrina D.

Yum! I had CJ's Cayenne Crab Bisque and it was delicious! I love soup and I love it even more when it is filled with seafood at a reasonable price. The crab cake on top was the cherry on top. It was definitely substantial enough to be a meal and kept me full until way past dinner time. I would love to eat at their outdoor tables when the weather gets a little warmer. The view of the square and the cathedral is great!

    (4)
  • Fred B.

Amazing!! The food is always delicious. I stop here every time I visit the south and the "Eggs Cathedral" are 5 STAR!! Great service, great people...just all around awesome! "Spot of Tea" please!!

  • Jason H.

This review is the tale of a pleasant, yet mixed review. I was there as part of a very large (40-50 people) group and the service was excellent. They were able to get us out in just one hour! The food was good as well. I had the Eggs Cathedral while my daughters had Belgian pancakes and French toast. I would rate the food as a 4 and service as a 4.5. Why the three stars? Being named Spot of Tea, I tried the oolong pot for one. At $4.50 I expected a loose leaf pot, not the single tea bag I received. If you are going to name your restaurant after something, you need to ensure that something is excellent!

This is a good place to sit outside for brunch when the weather is nice. The food is OK too. The strawberry sweet tea is the best thing on the menu. Their identity is a little confused and confusing, not what it used to be, but still a decent place. Whenever out of towners come and visit, this is a place they always want to hit. The portion sizes are huge.

The breakfast and brunch options in Mobile seemed somewhat limited. Because Spot of Tea offers up a fairly solid breakfast (with lots to choose from) in downtown Mobile, this place gets 4 stars. By comparison to other cities, however, Spot of Tea is probably a 3 star diner. This is a greasy spoon breakfast diner. The breakfast meals are huge and often coated in cheese or mayonaisse. Sometimes both. I am not from Alabama, but I quickly learned on my recent trip that mayonaisse seems to be a popular condiment (dare I say, ingredient) for the food. Spot of Tea is located on Dauphin Street in downtown Mobile right near the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. The interior decor is not too fancy (tiled floors, probably from the 80's) but there are a few patio tables that seemed nice of the sunny weekend morning. There are some large breakfast meals like the Eggs Cathedral that would probably serve as a lunch too. I opted for the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich (on sourdough bread) that came with -- of course -- a good dousing of mayonaisse. I was skeptical because I am a tradionalist when it comes to breakfast sandwiches -- just stick to the core basics of egg, meat, and cheese. But the sandwich was really good and had a good amount of grease to appease a mild hangover. The service was friendly and quick too. I was in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. There was a steady flow of customers (perhaps a testament to its popularity with locals) that were seated quickly after a short wait. The coffee was just average and my cup was never empty thanks to the hard-working waitress.

It has the best tea I've ever had! Passing through Mobile to visit the cathedral, and looked for a place to eat. It is located right in the center, and I just went in because it was the closest. They offer free tea, which I passed up. However, the waitor brung me some anyways because he said I had to at least try it. I am so glad I did because it was the best sweet tea I've ever had. If your not a fan of sweet tea, they do have others but not as good. I also had the Monte Cristo which is a cheese and ham sandwhich between french toast. It was a little heavy for my liking, but it still tasted good. The staff was very sweet and friendly. I loved my waitor. He was also from California, so we bonded over that. Wish we got his name, but I think he was the only male waitor. This place seemed like a lot of younger teens and older people go to a lot. Its very cute and I would recommend stopping by, at least for the tea.

Stoped here for a quick bite with husband and four kids. The food was okay, staff was very polite and spot on, atmosphere was fantastic. Strawberry sweet tea was unique.

Worst service! When you walk into the restaurant the smell is revolting. I wanted o sit outside and the ladies said I could sit outside and she would bring a menu. I sat out side for 5 minute, no one ever came out with a menu. Thankfully there's plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

    (1)
  • Katie A.

Bad service. Bad tea. Brought me the wrong salad. Some of the chicken wasn't cooked all the way. Very forgetful waitress. Impatient waitress. I would only recommend this place for brunch! BRUNCH ONLY!!! Cool self-playing piano. Nice vibe to the place overall.

You won't be alone eating at this restaurant, it is very popular among the locals and tourists. Despite the crowds we were seated within minutes and waited around 30 minutes before we got our food.

Always top notch. Jonathan took care of us today - he was by far the best server we have had yet at SoT.

  • Ken C.

A nice little quirky place opposite the little cathedral square in Mobile. The weather was very mild so I was able to eat at one of the half dozen tables on the sidewalk. I had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich that was good because it was made with country ham (but nothing special otherwise) with potato salad that was tasteless and made with uncooked potatoes. The plain iced tea was perfect (I skipped the flavored iced tea touted by the server and the menu).

  • Quincey W.

Great breakfast food. Ordered the banana french toast as suggested by waitress and was not disappointed. If I'm ever back in the area I'll make sure to have it again.

  • Ninjosh A.

Interesting place, kind of hospital cafeteria inspired, but improved slightly by a giant gaudy neon sign and a baby grand piano on a square of shag carpet. Seriously this place is strange. Not good, eclectic strange, but schizophrenic aunt left alone too long strange. The breakfast food is all your hotel buffet favorites, sticky wet eggs, skimpy bacon, and almost cooked potatoes. Food prepared as if to feed an army, despite out party of 2. The portions are generous, or maybe it just seemed that way because it was so unappetizing. Either way, it was, in fact, food being served, so that was a plus. Friendly service.

The food here was ok. Not bad, but not my favorite. The Strawberry Tea was a novelty, but was just ok.

    (3)
  • Michael E.

Excellent service, great food, great atmosphere. I had the Mexican omelet, my son had the western omelet, both delicious. Our younger kids ordered off the normal menu but got half portions for half price. Waitress was very attentive. Delicious coffee.

    (5)
  • Michael E.

It is nothing special. They have an ok tea selection. Apparently its one (of only two?) places to get brunch in the city so your options are limited. Its not bad, just not that great...and brunch...by definition...should always be great.

    (3)
  • Karin B.

Love this place! One of my favorite spots in Mobile! My husband loves their eggs cathedral and my favorites are the CJ's seafood bisque and French toast. I love their strawberry tea. Always great service!

If you are passing through it is a must stop. Great Breakfest have the eggs benedict or catherdral .

    (5)
  • Missy D.

This place has the best breakfast in town! I always opt for the English Delight which is an eggs Benedict with country ham. Always get the hash browns with onions cheese and the sauce from the eggs benedict on top. Delicious! Never have been disappointed at the Spot of Tea.

  • Laur M.

Excellent food, atmosphere is crowded but the food makes up for it. Nice selection of items on menu and the prices are reasonable. Everything is freshly made and presented nicely.

  • Tina M.

This place has been a "staple" in Mobile's downtown scene for a long time. I, personally, am not impressed. The food is overpriced, greasy and boring. I've heard very negative things about the cleanliness and the decor is... confusing. I think now that decent restaurants that actually cook food from scratch are popping up, Mobilians will wise up and not pay these ridiculous prices for mediocre/bad food.

    (2)
  • Lin G.

All those people you see in this place on a weekend brunch, with their families and jogging suits in tow, are definitely onto something. I got the Monte Cristo and it was delicious, albeit the extra toppings on the potatoes were silly. The indoor decoration is random and a bit 80's but the outdoor wrought iron tables are gorgeous. Too bad the day was too chilly to sit outside.

    (4)
  • Rebecca C.

This place is cute. And with that being said, it could be cuter. In other words, I love the idea of this place. Not so much the execution, atleast not completely. I couldn't decide off the huge menu what to order, so being concerned with a nearby tea party I am throwing a friend, I decided to get the Cucumber Cream Cheese Sandwich, since I plan on making these on my own soon. I was quickly disappointed when I saw the miniature croissant it came with. The salad was a standard garden and the sandwich was gone in two bites. I was left hungry so I nibbled on some amazing seafood benedict egg dish, it's one of the specials. I immediately regretted my decision and totally should've ordered that. The highlight of this place is totally not their advertisement-ridden bathrooms with huge ads to buy fake marble sinks like theirs from so-and-so company, so tacky. Instead, it was the fresh strawberry tea they had that day and we all ordered. Super sweet but not lacking in flavor, it was definitely my favorite part. It was also nice sitting outside on the patio across the street near the park. So like I said, this place is cute. It could be cuter and they need to modify some things. But overall, I liked it.

  • Meredith D.

I've found myself at Spot of Tea a few times, but unfortunately, my last experience sealed this place's fate on my "Nope, not again" list. Food took 2 hours to come out. Not joking. I was keeping track of time because we had somewhere to be later in the afternoon. I don't know why we didn't leave, honestly. Waitress wasn't apologetic or attentive. Food was meh. I dunno, the food just isn't good enough for me to want to go back... and absolutely not worth waiting 2 hours for. Plus the service is spotty.

    (2)
  • Dawn J.

Spot of tea was located in the heart of downtown Mobile across from the park. It had a very small town feel with generous portions and homemake eats. The omelet was incredibly fresh and their signature strawberry tea was a definite must try.

Great place in downtown Mobile. Right in the middle of attractions, a lot of street 2 hr meter parking. I had no problem finding the parking spot and getting a table, but it's 12:30 pm on a rainy Tuesday. Vey cozy place. Attentive and quick service. My server Tim was very nice and also Victoria started me with some drinks and had a very friendly personality. I ordered Banana Foster French Toast. Might be one of the most delicious things I've ever tried. Food came out super quick too. Either way, great find, absolute gem. I'll make sure to come back whenever I'm in Mobile again.

Mediocre at best. Driving through from New Orleans back to South Florida. Food was not great. I ordered the Hawaiian melt which was decent. My wife ordered the Cajun omelet. I tried her omelet and did not like it at all, she was unimpressed as well. I was originally going to order the seafood eggs Benedict but was informed that they were out of potatoes so I could not have the hash browns on the side. Parking sucked. Food was ok. A little expensive for what you're getting. $10 for a little ham, pineapple and cheese melt with a side of salad?

  • Ray S.

I didn't get to take advantage of the bloody mary's but I will say it's a neat vibe here (despite some people saying it reminds them of a 70s piano bar). Hey, it's unique. Regardless of the atmosphere, the food is the reason to come here. The eggs cathedral is the well known dish here and my friend said they lived up to the hype. I had the seafood omelet with old bay seasoning. We'll mark that one up as another success. I've only been here once as I've only recently moved to the area, but I plan on taking future guests here and making this my spot to hit up after the Sunday church service.

    (4)
  • Brea G.

The inside is kind of depressing in a sleazy 70s piano bar sort of way but early Saturday morning sitting outside in the shade across the street makes for pretty nice atmosphere. The Eggs Catherdral were pretty enjoyable but could have used just a bit more seasoning. It seems that southern style 'home fries' means deep fried potato cubes... essentially no different than french fries and this is what they have. If the Eggs Catherdral came with real breakfast potatoes and toast (they don't do toast) it would have been an awesome breakfast instead it was just OK. If I'm ever in the area looking for breakfast they'll be on the list but they won't get the "oh my god this place is so good" treatment.

    (3)
  • Nathan J.

I have eaten here for brunch a few times and I just can't figure out how it is still in business. It is so average. I also leave paying $40-ish for two people. The last time I was there I ordered a "build your own", also known as eggs, toast, and hashbrowns. I was told it was not available since they were so busy. What? So I endured some more of their hollandaise sauce.

    (2)
  • Eugene L.

Well i was a little disappointed this time with the quality of food. It was like everything was prep'd for service. Egg substitute service and bacon prep'd, eggs kept warmed and service and the hash brown potatoes as well. I rather pay for increase in food cost verses quality of the food being served.

Visiting Mobile and this was the first place where my boyfriend and I had breakfast. We ordered the eggs cathedral, the seafood eggs benedict, and the strawberry tea. The service, strawberry tea, ambiance, and decor were okay. The eggs cathedral was definitely a different concept for breakfast, it was good, but the seafood eggs benedict dish was by far our favorite. The portions are huge- two people can definitely share one dish.

Great food!! Seven of us so all different tastes. Loved it and the moon pie dessert was amazing!

This place was a great find in downtown Mobile. Open from 7am until 2pm on the day we went, they were packed but we got in quickly. Great food. Eggs Benedict style dishes are their specialty. But the omelette was awesome too. They have a wide variety of teas, and actually serve tea, complete with cucumber sandwiches and all the accompaniments. If in Mobile, find s way to get here.

On my first visit to this resturant I was kindly greeted by 3 different workers, seated quickly, served quickly and the food was original, out of this world delicious! Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our experience. I highly recommend it and we will definitly be back.

This place was a great place to stop for a great lunch on a long road trip. I loved that the eggs on the egg bacon and cheese sandwich werent scrambled, and that the hashbrowns (I've always seen potatoes in this style called "homefries") were wonderfully spiced. We got the strawberry iced tea, which was wonderful, but a little on the sweet side. This should be expected for a southern state, though, let's be real. The sandwich was very generous with bacon and I loooved that since most places I go only give you two or three slices. This sandwich had 7-8. There was a great atmosphere, with a sax player outside. I loved it!

I always recommend Spot of Tea to colleagues or family that are visiting Mobile. The eggs cathedral are always delicious. I would like to add that the inside is somewhat outdated. The prices are a little high and the hours are not convenient for the afternoon or evening business traveler.

  • Sean M.

Exceptional place for lunch, I want to go back and get other items! High recommend the strawberry sweet tea and the bananas foster French toast. Family friendly and the service was wonderful.

  • Primo L.

Ordered a coffee, strawberry tea, and tuna melt in a pita with cucumbers and pickles. Got a coffee, tuna, cold slice of cheese with lettuce, tomato and a cucumber, with a pickle on the side. Instead of the pita I got a couple slices of some sort of flatbread. Wasn't bad, just wasn't at all what I ordered, and I had to ask for the iced-tea a couple of times before it came. Coffee was lukewarm and forgettable. Same with the seafood bisque - it had literally no taste. The strawberry tea was sweet, but otherwise didn't taste like anything. But what makes Spot of Tea a fun experience is the outdoor patio seating - early Saturday morning there was boot camp in the park with good music and a lot of positive energy, and the 'farmers market' type stalls were setting up to sell their wares.

Decent food. The service is typical southern hospitality....slow, inefficient and slow... Otherwise a solid 2 star place for brunch

This will forever be one of my favorite restaurants! I always order the eggs cathedral and make the hashbrowns deadly! They add cheese, onion, ham, banana peppers, and sauerkraut! The strawberry tea is so delicious!! I always leave here so full! Their portions are huge!

Great place! I got a real taste of southern hospitality! The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner even though the place was packed. Ice tea was WINNING! Eat here, you'll love it..

Everybody kept telling me to go here, and I thought it lived up to the hype. My wife and I went there for brunch, and everything was delicious. We ordered the cathedral eggs, it was delicious, eggs and seafood over an English muffin with delicious sauce on top of hashbrowns, super great.

Bloody Mary made my day. The breakfast menu is difficult as you will not want to choose only one. Eggs Cathedral and cajun seafood omelet were good choices. Seating inside with great music or on the front walk under awning or even across the street in the park!

Great little spot right next to the local church. Great view of the park that had the local artists out seeing their wares. My wife had the bacon egg and cheese croissant abd I had the eggs cathedral. Both were great but what stole the show of us was the strawberry tea! Must get.

I had the blackened chicken caesar salad for lunch. The chicken was not even spicy, but was greasy - which was all I could taste. A single quarter of tomato, very limp lettuce and a bland dressing. The seafood chowder/soup was thick and did taste of seafood. As I was still hungry after the salad I ordered the scones which were the best part of lunch, not too sweet and good flavor. For two of us - both had salad - and the scones it was $34 before tip which was just too much money for a below average salad.

Spot of Tea was recommended by a local. Loved the atmosphere and sitting outside with a view of the cathedral. Started with the seafood bisque (only because their specialty crab bisque doesn't come in cup portion) which was tasty. Moved on to the eggs cathedral. A word of caution, it does not come in a half portion and can only be described as "hefty" in size. Taste was 3.5 out of 5. The potatoes were a little on the greasy side and it seemed more like a piled-high mixture of flavors with sauce. I'd probably try the benedict next time.

So the place does look like an old piano bar and there is a slight smell of cigarette, BUT still I say 5 stars because the breakfast was AWESOME! The owner let us in early as we arrived before opening in our road trip. Our waitress Susie was a sweetheart and very attentive. Kids had pancakes, French toast and husband had eggs Benedict for the first time, I had 2 eggs and hash browns. It was all so good and so much food we couldn't finish it. Their hash browns were out of this world. If you're passing through, stop here for a hearty meal!

Eggs Cathedral was of the hook! One of the most unique and tasty egg dishes you will ever find. If you're on a strict diet you should probably avoid this masterpiece. Everyone else, however, should not think twice. Just be sure to bring your appetite. I did and I still couldn't quite finish!

Nice atmosphere. I had a ham and cheese inlet with Rye toast and coffee. Omelet was fluffy with sharp cheddar and bits of ham. Very tasty. Was a short walk from my hotel.

Stopped in Mobile on way to Destin from Dallas. What a great decision because Mobile is loaded with great food and hospitality. Came here on recommendation of my son and it was fabulous. Since I was in Mobile, had to go with Cajun Omelette and it was fabulous - stuffed with Blackened Shrimp and covered with sauce made with fresh grouper and crawfish. My husband stuck with standard bacon and cheese omelette. Great location across from park and beautiful Immaculate Conception Cathedral

Eggs Cathedral. Absolutely delicious. Great coffee, too. This is the kind of place where we like to take our out-of-town guests to introduce them to Mobile's great cuisine. Thanks, Tony. I haven't been able to get past the Eggs Cathedral, but I'll have to venture out and try something different next time I'm in.

It has southern charm inside & out. The food is seriously fresh and made with tender loving care. Enjoyed the huge portions too. Was heading out on the open road, and these gracious ladies made a new batch of coffee before closing time. Ladies, that thunder bolt of liquid caffeine kept me majorly awake & safe. Come to Dallas Texas and make a bundle with your awesomeness. Many thanks.

Love love love their strawberry tea. I have cravings for it regularly. The deadly hash browns are my favorite and I have never gotten anything that I didn't like. Prices are very reasonable considering I always have some left to take home.

This place is the bee's knees! We stopped in here for brunch on a Sunday while on a roadtrip across the South. It's located in a historic section of the city, right across the street from a park. We were sat quickly inside and our waitress was courteous, friendly and fast. I will say the entire staff we interacted with from the manager to the busboy to the cashier was very nice. I had coffee and the English Eggs Benedict with roasted potatoes. It was all quite good. My girl had the Bananas Foster French Toast. I tried a bite and while it's very sweet, it's excellent. The price is reasonable and definitely worth a visit. If I'm ever in Mobile again, I'll definitely return.

I was hoping this place would be great, because my hubby likes the name of it and that tells me that he will want to eat here again and again. It was good, but nothing to write home about. I had the chicken salad sandwich on a croissant, which is a hard sell for me because there's another place that makes a chicken salad to a standard that all others are judged by. Here, it was just okay. The hubs had some sort of sandwich similar to a Reuben, only spicier, with banana peppers. His side salad did have good blue cheese dressing and you know I was stealing chunks of blue cheese off his plate. I had the seafood chowder, which was good, but I've definitely had better in this area. They had a good variety of sandwiches and breakfast dishes on the menu, and they serve brunch 7 days a week. I did enjoy my strawberry tea and a few sips of his strawberry lemonade. The prices were pretty reasonable and the service was great. The atmosphere is aesthetically pleasing as it is right across from Conti Park and you can see the park and Basilica from your table if you're by the window. It's certainly not bad. Next time, I think I'll try something different.

If you like your plate to look like a glazed donut, but instead of the deliciousness of the glazed it was a solid hazmat sheen of grease then this is the place for you. If I rated the food I Would give two stars, but I just couldn't get over the hazmat spill on my plate.

This place has a potential to be fantastic, but falls short. The location is excellent and it is one of the few brunch places in the area. However the food is subpar at best! For brunch I would much rather go to cafe 615 than here.

If you google "best breakfast Mobile Alabama" Spot of Tea is what pops up. My fellow Yelpers and our hotel concierge co-signed so I figured we were pretty much guaranteed a stand out breakfast. Umm, no. This was a miss Yelp (and Google. And Mr. concierge!) I had the highly recommended Eggs Cathedral and my dish was accurate per the menu's description: English muffin topped with scrambled eggs and seafood sauce all piled atop a mound of hashbrowns. My only problem was that the crab cake was lacking a key ingredient - CRAB! The crab cake was mostly breading so pairing it with the English muffin made it basically a bread sandwich. The seafood sauce was a little bland but copious splashes of Tabasco sauce fixed it right on up! My breakfast buddy had the veggie omelette ( only bell peppers and onions?) which was waay overcooked and dry. Everything way just ok. I could have had a better (and cheaper) breakfast at IHOP.

My daughter and I enjoy tea so we decided to try this place out. We had the blackberry tea for two. I had the monte cristo. She had the British dip and a cup of the seafood bisque. We had a guest with us and he had the special , eggs cathedral. No disappointment or complaints at all! The menu has a very large selection and any palate would be pleased.

I was in town for a convention and wanted to try a good nontraditional breakfast place. This restaurant is in walking distance to the renaissance. The strawberry ice tea tastes like sweetened tea with a hint of fruit flavor, doesn't have much strawberry taste. The egg cathedral was kinda bland. The seafood sauce tastes like clam chowder without clam. I can hardly find any crawfish in the sauce. The crabcake doesn't have much crab either. Nothing impressive. The service was good. The patio is prettier than the inside.

The check in process needs work. We were bypassed and waited while others were seated for 20 minutes. Then we waited for our breakfast to arrive, again watching people seated later than us receive their food. Eat and leave. Maybe we picked an off day. The food looks good as it passes our table. I guess we'll have to see later.

Ermigawd.. why is this place in Mobile, AL? While visiting my oldest and dearest friend for a few days, she took me to her favorite brunch spot. Actually, she took me the last time I visited as well. This trip I got the Banana's Foster French Toast. I inhaled it. I can't even describe the dish it was just the right amount of banana, and the sauce was buttery and sweet. I also got a side of eggs scrambled with cheese so that I could enjoy the Strawberry Tea. This place is definitely a must if you're in Mobile.

I was in town this summer and stopped in Spot of Tea for lunch with the family. Shuntae was our server and she was FABULOUS! I wish all servers could be like her! Very cute place and the FOOD was wonderful! On the list - 100 dishes to try in Bama before you die - I have to agree with this one!

Great food and very friendly service. Big portion sizes! The crab bisque was delicious. I didn't even need to order an entree the bisque with crab cake in the middle and bread slices was so filling. Open floor plan seating with great view of Cathedral Square. Would definitely eat there again!

Spot of Tea is an all around great place. I have never had a bad experience here! The location, atmosphere, staff and food are wonderful. Even though I have never had anything there, that I did not like, the Monte Cristo and Cajun Tomato Bisque are my favorite. There is no question as to why they have prospered for so long, while so many other local restaurants have gone under.

Came in for breakfast the day after Christmas, the talk of the town was about the two tornados that touched town in Mobile the previous night. Spot of Tea is eclectic with incongruent themes. Player piano creates a nice atmosphere. Not your run-of-the-mill place, worth checking out once. Had bacon, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich on sourdough bread. Bacon precooked & tasteless, eggs runny and skinned, bread grilled and soaked with butter/oleo. Waiter, although efficient, never asked how my meal was. Service: 4 Cleanliness: 3 Men's room: 5 Food quality: 2 Value: 3

Delicious breakfast. The Seafood Eggs Benedict and Bananas Foster are my favorite. Awesome soups. The strawberry tea is great. The lunch sandwiches are very good but the menu on the whole is pricey. I liked it better before they made it all classy inside. Also, they sometimes will seat you inside of Club Insanity! Makes for a weird Sunday brunch especially when they are still playing club music!

The food I saw, looked great then when I got mine, it did not look the same. I was then told I need to pay more, about $4. to have cheese and onions. The Cathedral was already $11.99, to hash browns were not browned at all. The manager then said I should have told her, well the things is covered with a bland sauce that was suppose to have seafood in it, that I kept eating trying to find the seafood. The server did not communicate well the dish and service was slow and barely their.

I was in town for a nigh with a couple friends, we went here for dinner, and I was not disappointed. Started out the meal with their crawfish appetizer and oyster sampler. The crawfish were very good, and the oysters were tolerable (the spinach one) to good...but not great. The dinner on the other hand was fabulous. I had the ribeye steak (medium rare) with baked potato and spinach with cheese...all were great. For desert we split their chocolate peanut butter cake and the coconut cake...both good. The atmosphere was nice as well...at least to start the night. When we got there it was quiet with a woman playing music on the piano in the restaurant, however, by the time we left she had quit and their was loud dance music coming from the bar in the back. I would recommend thy do something with those red walls though...they just seem out of place...I think a dark purple would work for the restaurant and help with the ambiance.

The lady sitting next to me on the airplane told me that I HAD to have breakfast at Spot of Tea. And of course, I checked it out on Yelp to make sure that it was reviewed well. Conveniently, it was a short walk from my hotel downtown. I liked that they were open at 7am. The server was awesome - I explained to her my situation that I was in a hurry and needed to eat and then walk back to my car to put some coins in before the meter started at 8am. She was awesome - - definitely served me fast and efficiently, taking good care of me and kept my coffee mug filled. I ordered the Belgian waffle with bacon and eggs. Good stuff - - the belgian waffle seemed more filling than other belgian waffles. Price range was fairly typical... I wouldn't say inexpensive. My waffle was $5 and then another $3 for the eggs and bacon. + my coffee... I think i ended up around $12 or $13 with tip. But they had a few tables outside on the sidewalk, that would have been nice... but even at 7:30, it was pretty humid. There are large picture windows, so it was still nice to sit inside and look out over the outside park square. It was alright - - server was very friendly. But I probably wouldn't "rave" about this place as much as the lady on the plane did.

I'll be fair and give them 4 stars even though I haven't actually sat down and eaten their food. I was exploring along Dauphin St and thought, "Hey, a place called Spot of Tea - I bet I can get a cup of tea there!" Once I walked in, I realized it was more of a sit-down place, but the manager asked if he could help me and I said I was just looking for a cup to tea to go. (Something to sip on while strolling the streets.) He said sure, and directed me to the tea list. Well, I picked out a tea and the fellow in the suit went into the back room to get it. After a length of time he came back and said, sorry, they are out of that kind. So I picked out a different kind, while the manager kind of awkwardly watched over my shoulder, and he disappeared again for a long time. While he was gone I enjoyed the decor, messed around with the creepy self-playing piano, and chatted with the girl at the counter. Finally he came back with the tea - in a styrofoam cup with a plastic lid and a straw. HOT TEA. PLASTIC LID AND STRAW. I pointed out, you know, I can't actually drink this tea with a plastic straw - it is just going to melt. He apologized and said that they didn't have the right size lids in stock at the moment. I'm not sure if he totally grasped the fact that I would not be able to drink the tea AT ALL like this. Anyway, I paid for the tea and drank it 30 minutes later when I got back home. C-minus for execution but A for effort. I was slightly disappointed, but mostly just entertained - it was funny and sweet. It's a pretty building with a nice upstairs terrace - I'd go back to eat there if I had the time. Nice tea list. But yeah, don't just walk in and try to get a quick "spot of tea" - that's not really what they do.

My husband and I were in town for the night and someone suggested this place for breakfast. The food was good and we enjoyed it. I thought it was a little bit greasy, with not a lot of fruit on the plate. The service was so-so: we had to wait 10 minutes before someone came and greet us. Than, once our order was taken and delivered, no one came and asked us how our food was or if we needed anything else. We had to find our waitress to have the bill. We were seating outside and it was a beautiful day. The cathedral is right next door and this was a really nice features of that place. The indoor seating area of this place was ok, but nothing great. In summary: good food, so-so service.

In the search for a good weekend brunch place in downtown Mobile, we have gone to Spot of Tea a couple of times. First of all, the name doesn't match the interior - it's as if the business name and exterior is in a fist fight with the interior. Every time I go in, I think about how much I want to redecorate! But, onto the food. Everything I have tried has been decent. Good omelets and waffles with excellent, friendly service. You can sit outside on both sides of the street and parking is pretty easy - or ride your bike!

Hot Zeus, this place is great! I was able to eat at Spot of Tea at an average of almost once a week for the span of several years (my family would eat lunch here on Sundays, after going to Church downtown). -- I'm one of those guys that finds a dish that rocks the socks, and then sticks with it unwaveringly, so I can't speak so much for the whole menu... I can however say that the Philly Steak sandwich is amazing, and their tomato bisque soup is to die for (I've never had a tomato soup that comes anywhere close to comparing). Also, I'll easily drink 4 full glasses of their Strawberry ice tea on each visit. It's quite tasty and absolutely refreshing. A great, great spot for lunch if you find yourself in downtown Mobile.

This is one of my regular lunch spots and I really enjoy eating here. I usually have the chicken salad sandwich on pita, with a side salad or a couple of soup (usually tomato basil). Very good. I've been meaning to try some of their other sandwichs, but I really am a creature of habit. Today I splurged and went for their signature Eggs Cathedral, which was REALLY good. Though I woulnd't recommend it on a hot August day, or you will regret it every step back to your office. ;) The ambiance is nice and the service is usually pretty quick, however if they stick you in the side Carriage Room, you may get forgotten sometimes. I had brunch here a few years ago before they renovated, and back then it was like stepping into a page of Steel Magnolias, very southern and very 80's, with the old flowery wallpaper and cheap white chairs. Today the chairs are still there, but the red wall treatment and pennant lights have really upgraded the place. 2 thumbs up. Oh and do try the strawberry tea, it really is as good as everyone raves about. Wish I could make it for breakfast on the weekends, but it's too far for me to come downtown.

We stopped in for lunch while spending an afternoon in Mobile. It's a cute place and we were seated very quickly. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food came out fast and hot. And here's where things go down hill... CJ's crab bisque was more like a seafood-flavored gravy, much too thick and heavy for my taste. The crab cake on top, almost entirely filler, had very little crab. And I've never seen this before but the pickle served on the side was completely dried out. The Cathedral suffered under the same crab cake issues and was also reported as too greasy. The sauce on top was much too thick. Upon further inspection we decided that it was actually the same seafood-flavored gravy that travels under the name "CJ's Crab Bisque." The strawberry tea much too syrupy and sweet.* While the omelette was good, it was less omelette and more scrambled eggs on top of stuff. The three of us decided that given the opportunity we would try this place again because the service and atmosphere were so good (as well as Yelp reviews) but order completely different food. *Don't read to much into that, as a Yankee I don't take much sugar in my tea at all.

First of all, the strawberry tea is a surprising and wonderful delight that makes a visit worthwhile all by itself! Perfectly sweetened without an overpowering flavor. We were staying nearby during Mardi Gras and enjoyed "Spot of Tea" enough to dine there twice in our 2 1/2 day visit. One day, for breakfast, we enjoyed the Eggs Cathedral at the servers suggestion as "you can't get it anywhere else". Well she was indeed correct about that assessment. It was a tower of flavor. I'm always a bit nervous about dishes that include a "buried" English muffin as it's frequently an excuse to use a stale, i.e. HARD muffin. Not so here! The dish was perfect and plenty filling. The tomato bisque is unique and very tasty with more heat than usual. They have a large selection of sandwiches that step outside of your normal sandwich shop. Will eat here again when in Mobile.

[Note: this review was for breakfast] I was in town for the holidays, and wanted to take my girlfriend somewhere nice for breakfast even though it was a Thursday morning. I was pleasantly surprised at the breakfast, the service, and the ambiance. Our service was exemplary. Food was made almost as fast as possible, the waitress was attentive, and they even took the time to chat us up and even complimented my girlfriend's hair (which is a very un-Mobile-like shade of pink). The level of southern hospitality here felt right. The place had a kind of nightclub/lounge vibe, with the piano by the entrance and dimmer lighting on the interior, but it actually somewhere really managed to work for breakfast (I bet it even works better with the jazz brunch!). For our meal, I had the seafood eggs benedict, and my girlfriend had the eggs cathedral, both with sides of hash browns and bacon. I should say, "a side of home friess", since they were not the grated hash browns I expect when I ordered from an establishment in the South -- but they were among the best of non-hash-brown-but-called-hash-brown potatoes I've ever had. :) Along with the generally good food, they had a few fun extras, like their strawberry sweet tea -- not so sweet as to be over the top, but sweet enough that if you left me with pitchers of the stuff in my fridge, I wouldn't stop until I got diabetes (and then probably still wouldn't!). * About the only negative thing I noticed about this place has to do with the people eating there. It felt like the place where the upper crust in Mobile would eat. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I did catch a faint snobby vibe from the clientele. Case in point: My girlfriend has pink hair, which is (apparently) pretty exotic for Alabama. A table of debutante types one table over kept clearly doing the "Don't let her see you look, but there's a GIRL WITH PINK HAIR" thing. I kind of expected a little bit of gawking while visiting a post office in Bayou La Batre, but not a nice place in the city. Far be it from me to suggest that the gentrified class in Mobile is ill-prepared to handle the exotic, but if I had one complaint about the restaurant, it would be that the patrons did seem to have a bit of that old South institutionalized snobbery that might make you feel out of place if you're a little out of the ordinary.

This is an awesome place for breakfast, especially the Eggs Cathedral. It's less so for lunch, but is still not to be ignored. My only real problem with it is the clientele. The people who work here are close to perfect, but the customers will look at you askance if you're not "one of them." I know, I know: it's not right to dock a spot just for how it's customers perceive you, but it's very off-putting and even more so when you're with a date who says "everyone is looking at us funny."

Went for breakfast. Good EGGS CATHEDRAL (eggs Benedict), BANANAS FOSTER FRENCH TOAST was absolutely divine. Waffles were good, crepes were good too! Lovely casual tea place. Was busy when we got there but it's a large place. Food was very good, decor inside seemed confused, seemed to be trying to be so many different things, full scale restaurant, tea place, breakfast cafe, night club??? We sat in the carriage house (no windows, in hindsight maybe we should have asked for outside) the carriage house had the original flooring n brick from when this area of the building was for the horses n carriage to drive thru. Really liked our breakfast. it was a better deal than the hotel easter buffet. Our whole meal here for family of 4 was the same cost of the hotel Easter buffet for one. RECOMMEND this place. Wow I just read the other reviews of this place...didn't know we had just hit on one of the "places to eat before you die" in Mobile and lucked out on the Banana's Foster French Toast. Really true...excellent French toast and cathedral eggs.

Went here for brunch and we had some pretty good breakfast foods. It's kind of a weird ambiance though, it seemed like a nightclub that become a good place to have brunch? We have a little boy and our friends brought there 2 kids and we got MAJOR stink eye from the snooty peeps there for Sunday Brunch. HEY kids make noise chillax mmmmmkay. I feel bad for Mobile that places like this are considered the cream of the crop to be honest because it was just 1 step above IHOP, nothing really that amazing, but it was good. I guess it would be a little difficult to mess up breakfast though so i'm not sure that says much either.

I really like coming here for lunch, so I was really excited to try the Spot of Tea at night. Overall, I was very disappointed. The wait staff seemed to very disorganized, and it took a long time to place our order. I ordered the Grouper Almondine. It tasted fishy, salty, and bland all at the same time. Very disappointed. I think that I will only back here for lunch. I'm not sure if I hit an off night, but I think I will go someplace else for dinner.

This little spot downtown was quite the surprise. After wandering around and discovering nothing is open on Sundays, Spot of Tea was our "savor". The salads are enormous and the sandwiches were good. Watch out for the broccoli cheese soup... way too much grated cheese on top. The seafood omelet left my dad wanting more. The portion just wasn't right. Overall we were pleased.
