We've been passing this place for a couple of years and my husband has been wanting to give it a try. We finally tried it, and all I can say is I really miss Central BBQ. We went later in the evening and both ordered the BBQ nachos. We parked ourselves on barstools and our food came out quickly. The chips were stale. Other than that, the meat was decent and the sauce wasn't bad, but very sweet. We got banana pudding to go, and my son stole it out of the fridge. He said it was good. I wish I knew. I will say the service was great. The girl who took our order was friendly and pleasant. The prices were reasonable. I doubt we'll go back simply because there's better BBQ in the area.

BBQ was okay to me sauce didn't have enough kick. Ribs didn't really have a smoke flavor to them! Ribs seemed to have a lot of fat! Restaurant is nice staff was great!

Very good BBQ in Mobile. A good smokey sauce, and juicy meat.

This place has some of the best bar-b-que in town (try the ribs - sauce on the side). They don't have servers, you order at the counter and sit then they bring your food out to you by order number. It's been that way for ever. People are super friendly and helpful. My son is a picky eater and other then ketchup their sauce is the only condiment that he will eat, it has great flavor just lacks spice.

I loved my meal! However; my friend & I are from the lovely NW (Oregon) and had never had catfish....and the catfish here left a little something to be desired. It could have been that we'd seen a dead one floating near the dock at the beach in Biloxi a few hours earlier...or the fact that it was a little soggy. But let's move on.... My BBQ chicken was excellent! The potato salad, baked beans, Texas toast, mac & cheese and corn on the cob were also great. Yes, this would be a lot of food for one average sized girl...but there were 2 of us, and driving makes us hungry (well, bored of driving does). The server who rang us up was very friendly and advised us which sides to order. The restaurant was clean and it was fun autographing the wall. Saucy's isn't fancy, by any stretch of the imagination, but kudo's to them for being open midday, when everything else in Mobile was closed. Who knew an entire town shuts down midday on a Thursday?? Not us. Not that this was our only option. We could have gotten fast food, but being that we'd never been in the south, we figured we'd better get something southern....and what's more southern than the meal I just described?? (Well yes, collard greens and grits, but I'm not a fan of either). The restaurant had a free parking lot - which is nice since you have to pay to park most everywhere in our city limits. Lastly, the prices were very reasonable. I'd come back, if it weren't 2,712 miles away.

When your stomach hollers for some BBQ and it needs to be close to downtown, Saucy Q is your spot. Good portion size to satisfy most appetites with the right combination of smoky flavors, tender juicy meats and good sides, this is enough to hold ya' thru till the next day. Crowded during lunch, going a little early or after 1 gives you the best shot of kicking back, eating your Q while you knock it back with some thirst quenching beer.

I was so happy to find this place. It came upon a recommendation of locals and happen to come upon it after a long day at my client's site to my hotel. I had spent too much time trying to go to the Saucy on Moffet, and it was closed early. I was hungry and I wanted Southern BBQ. This was my light at the end of the tunnel that night. I got take out, and I purposely over-ordered. I had the spare ribs, sausage, the fish filet and the chopped pork. Everything was go F'in good. The fish was memorable, but the most impressive and definitely the best I've had or could get where I normally live was the chopped pork. Hot damn, it was so finely and nicely smoked and chopped, it was ever so moist and tender... My mouth fills with saliva as write this... I know there's probably better BBQ around the area based on opinions, but this place did it for me. My only complaint is the person taking my order didn't make me feel welcome or appreciated at all. The place was not packed, and she didn't say hello or had a customer service attitude. It wasn't rude, but there should be some kind of cordiality and greeting instead of "What do you want?" And for the amount of food and the food itself, I did not think the prices were out of line. I think they were kinda cheap, which was AWESOME!

I heard the BBQ is good so I took a couple friends there for dinner. It took about 10 mins. to get waitress' attention, we placed our orders for drinks; 20 mins later - no drinks, no waitress, so I got up and walked over to what looked like bar section. Turns out, you can see the kitchen from there so I started watching the cooks -- one never changed gloves, and the other one never cared to put any gloves on. That was enough to gross me out. I walked over to our table... still no drinks, no waitress... we just walked out of there and went to Callaghan's. I don't care if they have 5 star food --- food handling and service are important to me. Never going back.

I love Bar-B-Que. Heck - I was raised in the South and my Unle had his own little bar-b-que stand for years. You only WISH you could have tasted my Uncle's ribs. He is long gone - and so is his recipe for cooking ribs and sauce. He was so protective of his recipe and methods (as most truly good bar-b-que chefs are) - none of us were able to get his secrets before he died suddenly. I still cry when I think about it - and that was 10 years ago. So - I think I am more than qualified to rate a bar-b-que place. I think that bar-b-que is one of the most "personal" foods I know. What is excellent to some - is mediocre to others. Bar-b-que is ALL about your own personal favorite KIND of bar-b-que. I know that Saucy Q gets rave reviews, awards and such - but honestly - I think it is more because the owners are so personable and colorful and they have succeeded quite well as local restuarantuers in an age of chain restuarants. I think their sauce is good and their sides are hard to beat. But the chicken is dry and the ribs are too greasy. Not that I have anything against fat - I easily go through a pound of butter on a good day of cooking! But I don't like greasy ribs - and that is my personal taste. All of that said - I actually eat Saucy Q alot. They are the only bar-b-que place "on the way home from work" (I work downtown). And there are few things better to take home and have for leftovers than bar-b-que. I will warn you - don't bother to call ahead!!!! Or if you do (which I always do) - don't expect it to be ready to go when you get there. For some unknown reason - even if you give them a credit card at the time you order - they always act like its all ready when you walk in and give them your name - but the fact is - they start putting your take out order together when you walk in the door to pick it up. Personally - that ticks me off. After a hard day of work - when you bother to call and tell them you want to pick something up at 6PM - you get there at 6PM - and they start filling your order - its a little frustrating. Maybe my problem with service is why I'm ranking this 2 stars instead of 3. I guess the bar-b-que is OK - I prefer Brick Pit or Dreamland - but if you are downtown it is the best you can get.

When I first had Saucy Q's, I was convinced it was some of the best BBQ I've had. It became a place I would stop and eat at every single time I drove home from New Orleans. The ribs are on the "100 Things to try in Alabama before you die". They are really smoky and are excellent. The pulled pork was also a perfect compliment to go with them. Beans have peppers to it with a sweet taste and the potato salad is mustard base and chilled just right. The sauce is the best part with a sweet taste that gets more heat everytime you eat it. I've never had a sauce like it. Ah, yes...Saucy Q"s was definitely a favorite. However, the last time I went...my ribs were like eating jerky, the pork was probably leftover because it was soggy, and I left there with a cold. I wondered what the deal was! The only explanation I can come up with is that I ate monday at lunch when ribs and pork was bad (the sides were still excellent ). In the past, I've always ate there on a Thursday evening or a Friday at lunch. I'm guessing Mondays they pull out leftovers from the weekend. So if you go, don't go Mondays. You will be happier with it toward the weekend. I couldn't give it a 5 because of the inconsistency. But it sure is good when it's right.

Solid barbecue, nothing extraordinary from the pork plate but nothing worth giving it a poor rating either. I like the sauce on or off option at time of ordering too.

Nothin fancy, just great BBQ. I chose the fried catfish, being someone that doesn't eat meat except fish, sometimes it's difficult to eat in a BBQ restaurant. My guest just loves BBQ and we chose this place to satisfy both of our food cravings. mmmmmmm good! The catfish was tasty, just the right amount of batter and the baked beans I had to go with were outstanding. My guest enjoyed the ribs but said the onion rings could have been better.

I miss this place! I was in Mobile, Alabama for a few day and found this right before I left and ate there a few times. Amazing BBQ(Loved the shredded beef/pork sandwiches), great/friendly staff, quick service & good prices, highly recommended!

Tasty BBQ, we found Saucy Q while researching for a place to grab lunch before heading to the USS Alabama tour. I had the ribs, which were meaty and perfectly smoked. Being able to order the sauce on or off is a nice touch, I ordered off because I prefer to dip the meat and control the level of sauce. Portions were generous and a good value. I do recommend going early or late to miss the lunch and dinner crowds, as this place can get really busy.

Well 9 days in Alabama was fun. I send you to Amme H for seafod reviews of Mobile, In the south, BBQ is also pretty good. The slow roasting of meat. We hit this spot for lunch near the end of the rush. Food came out slow and we waited for the rest to come out even slower. In the end, the food was pretty good. The portions size with classic southern sides is enough to get a doggie bag. A good place for lunch. Live music on weekends, but didn't get back for that.
