I happened upon the reviews of this place after i had already booked the room for three nights on priceline with the name your price option. Needless to say I was rather nervous based on the majority of these reviews. Upon walking in I was greeted with the older but majestic looking decor and a slight smell but not one that i would consider to be offensive, but just "old". The front desk was very polite and i rode the elevator up to the 9th floor. On exiting the elevator I was hit with a wall of heat, upon entering my room it was much hotter and I intstantly felt as though my worst fears were realize and that the negative posters were right on point. The room temperate was at 80 degrees despite the AC being set on 65; and it was apparent that the AC itself was not working; just that the fan was on. The room smelt of decades worth of smoke and the rug had many bleach stains all over. Given the non functioning AC I decided to request a room change. It was at this point in time that my experience instantly turned from negativet o positive. I was promptly provided a room on the 8th floor with a working AC in a clean and neat room. I was informed that unless specifically requested priceline commonly automatically put people in smoking rooms, in my case on the 9th floor which is a smoking floor. I cannot speak for other floors but in the future i think people who are nonsmokers would be doing themselves a huge favor by requesting rooms on a nonsmoking floor and if you are unhappy with your room request a change immediately and my request from promptly granted and I was more than happy with my stay as a result -- bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean, floor was clean, and the only negative was that had i needed it the room did not have a refrigerator. I would stay again if i received the same price from priceline again, but this time I would request a nonsmoking room from the outset.

Let me start by saying, if I could give this place 1.5 stars I would but I'm going to round up with 2 stars. I got this room as an Hotwire deal for $68. Upon entering the hotel, I thought we got a great deal. This old hotel has a great looking lobby and is in a neat historic area of town. Parking is free and in the garage right next door. Check-in was fast and easy but after riding the nice elevator up to the 4th floor, we were hit by a heatwave when the doors opened. There is no ventilation of any kind in the hallways, which is fine but somewhat unusual I thought. Our room, 411 was at the end of the hall. The room itself was a suite, large with a king size bed, tv, couch, mini fridge, sink and microwave. However there were several large stains on the outdated carpet, the fridge looked very old and banged up. The TV was an old tube Zentih TV (Zenith no longer exisits). The bed was a Sleep Number bed which is impressive except that it didn't work so the bed was hard as a rock. I literally woke up 3 times in the night with back pain. The bathroom was relatively clean but there were stains in the old bathtub. At check-out, I mentioned the issue with the Sleep Number bed and rather than get an apology, was simply told, "That sucks." All of this is a shame because this hotel could be very cool. I will not stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Not too many patrons at early dinner. Nice atmosphere. Ordered the pasta w/Crab, shrimp, crawfish and one scallop. Delicious. Lots of seafood and an ample serving. The bread, may have been brioche, was served with herb butter. Yum. Our server was courteous and attentive. We would return.

Some of the Yelpers need to take it down about thirty notches with their hysteria over this hotel. Yes, there are some things I disliked about the hotel, but for a historic hotel in the heart of downtown Mobile, it's just fine. Even though the outside hasn't been very well taken care of -- the awning was slightly stained, and the balcony railings could use a pressure washing -- the exterior belies a really lovely, historic interior, including crystal chandeliers, a grand limestone staircase, etc. Other folks mentioned smell; I didn't get any smell from either the lobby or room. And the hotel is in a great location, just two blocks from the shops and restaurants of Dauphin Street. Likewise, the rooms could use a little bit of work, but they're otherwise rather nice. The things I disliked were the retro TV and the wallpaper that was showing its age, but the bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. So: don't buy into the hysteria. This ain't the Ritz, but it's a perfectly fine hotel.

No AC. No Wi-Fi. Tiny pool. Filthy tables around the pool. No queen beds. Broken vending machines. Tried to charge a higher-than-quoted rate. Sleep Number matresses don't work. And...AND...the front desk clerk recommended Buck's Pizza to us and another party. It was terrible. Probably gets kickbacks.

Give me a break on these reviews....Maybe I just got a good room, idk. But I was TERRIFIED to go in this hotel after reading a bunch of bogus reviews about how old, smelly and nasty this place was. So yes, this hotel is old....yes, when you walk in you can get the vibe it has been around for a while. It is old elegance. It doe shave a slight "old" smell in the lobby. BUT I did not smell anything in the room. And I am very pregnant and VERY hard to please. The bathroom is small. But our corner king with pull out couch had ample room for my husband and I, plus our 3 small children. There was a fridge and wet bar. Marble tables...an updated TV would be great...the tv sucked, luckily we had multiple portable dvd players and other electronics for the kids. I wouldn't chose this to stay at for more than a night. We got a rate of like $50 a night on bid your price on priceline. They claim it is a 3 star....IDK if I can exactly say it is not...but I feel they really need some updating. All that said, it was a decent hotel. I wouldn't cringe at staying there again but if I have a newer option at the same price, I will likely go that way. But seriously all the hard core bashing of this place? I just didn't see it. I will say it is BS they charge $7 for garage parking but there is no entrance into the building from the parking garage and if you park on the street you have to be moved by 8am. just fyi...

If you are looking for a modern Ritz-Carlton, this isn't the place for you...but if you are looking for a decent hotel in the heart of downtown, this may be the place for you. This is a historic hotel, and walking into the lobby, I felt like I was taken right back into the forties (or at least what I would imagine it to be like). The smell of cigarette and cigar smoke drifted in from the bar. The rooms were comfortable with Sleep Number beds, and the amenities you'd expect from a hotel.

March 10, 2014 stay...When I walked into the lobby of the hotel I was impressed. It appeared clean and well taken care of. Completely different story when I got out of the elevator upstairs. When we stepped out of the elevator the wallpaper was peeling off of the wall...in a very obvious way! We stayed in Room 505, and there were large stains on the carpet, the bathroom tub/shower surround looked as though they had patched some of the grout with caulking several times and was peeling back, and the room itself was not that clean. Because of the stains on the carpet I wondered if they actually cleaned them and was afraid to remove my socks. I looked at every pillow under the pillowcases and noticed that two of them were discolored and should have been thrown out. The noise from the hallway and outside was loud and the "sleep number" bed barely functioned and was not at all comfortable so my husband and I both had a very bad nights sleep...When I mentioned my issues to the front desk clerk the next morning, I said "maybe it's just my room," and the muffled reply was "I wish I could say that too." Clearly the staff is aware of the issues and maybe the owners should consider renovating since it looks like the last time that happened was the 80s! If you stay there during the week expect to be woken to screaming backpack leaf blowers at 5am. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again! I should have paid $30 for a fleabag motel and probably slept a little better.

This hotel does NOT live up to the hype or any good business standards. We booked our room through Orbits a month ago and two days before the event they decided they could get more money out of other concert goers and decided to bump us to sell their rooms at a full price! We heard from others that said they experienced the same treatment. I can guarantee I won't be using this hotel or its chain EVER again.

By far the worst hotel experience of my entire life. The front desk clerk was rude as soon as we arrived. Yes we were early, but by 90 minutes and instead of checking to see of anything was available he simply said, "Check in isn't until 3." After we convinced him to his job, it was then another half hour before he finished. Upon getting to the room, it was disgusting. I've seen rooms in frat houses that were cleaner. The furniture had to have been from a hospital and there were stains all over the carpet and the sheets. There was no food or bar service. However, an uncharacteristically bad ice storm had just hit the area so I'll give them that. The heat didn't work in my room, and neither did the Sleep Number bed in my room. Hope you like the 100 setting and sleeping on what feels like the ground, because that's all you're going to get. All in all the experience was horrendous, but at $89 a night I guess you get what you pay for.

It is part of the Raddison chain but that is about as far as it goes to being a chain hotel. You can tell that this place has seen a rough crowd during Mardi Gras as it looks like some of the hotels on Panama City Beach that have seen one to many spring breaks. It has a lot of issues and really needs updating but at least it has a full bar, the restaurant is decent from breakfast and its close to Dauphin Street where all of the decent bars and restaurants are located down town. It does have a pool and hot tub but realize that you are in an urban area and are probably being watched by the huge govt building next door so be careful wearing a thong or doing keg stands except during Mardi Gras.

The Admiral Semmes is a historic hotel. Unfortunately, the history shows a bit compared to some of the newer micro-hotels. I was in town for Mardi Gras and the parades passed directly in front of the hotel. It seemed ot be the meeting point for many different groups and has a great bar on site and a wonderful restaurant. You can also walk to a dozen other bars/restaurants nearby. The parking deck is right next door and was only $10 a day. Does it look like a hotel built in the late 90s? No. Does it look like a hotel built in the 1940s and remodelled in the 90's. Yes.

This hotel was nothing like I expected. Its should not be rated 3 stars. The room was filthy. The elevators barely worked and I was on the 10th floor. The parking was not safe. it was not connected to the hotel, you still had to walk outside and around the corner for entry. The only plus is that the staff was friendly.
