This place should be called "The Ignoble South". Cliche, trendy, identical to every new American restaurant in every American city. Repurposed, white-washed hardwood floors, metal chairs, neutral walls and a small, unimaginative menu. The steak was dry and overcooked. (I asked for medium-well and it came out very well-done.) The veggies were overly salted - which made the dryness of the steak even worse. To top it off, the prices are what you'd pay in a cultured city.

I really enjoyed the ambiance. It's very chic. Food was great, service was great. I really liked the Pork Rilettte with Peach chutney Appetizer. It reminded me of a pate. It was savory and had a lot of flavor without being overly salty. The food was fresh, and you can tell it was made to order. I took my husband and he enjoyed it. Next time, i'll take the ladies for a GNO.

Noble South was a nice surprise in downtown Mobile. Great southern style food with a modern twist and craft cocktails make this place a winner. It made this Los Angeles foodie feel right at home!

We stopped in Mobile, AL as a quick stop for lunch on our way to New Orleans. We wandered around until we stumbled into this place. We decided to try it and left with no regrets. We ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a Kale salad. It was awesome. The Kale was the best we've ever eaten. It's a small hip place. We definitely will recommend it.

Decor - A++ Ambience - A++ Service - A- (for a new restaurant it was A+) Dessert - A++ All other food...I hate this...but.......B- Always exciting to get a great new locally owned restaurant Downtown. And this one is DEFINITELY local. They are farm-to-table and the menu changes weekly so that they can source their food locally. That is the kind of place I want to patronize!! They did an incredible good job renovating what had been a gloomy (and frankly STINKY) old Mobile building. The staff was eager to please and had a great deal of pride in what the restaurant owners are trying to accomplish. Now the food...early plates (Deviled Eggs & "Southern" Edamame) were way too salty. The Country Pork Ribs were slightly overcooked and dry. However....the sauce on the ribs (root beer sauce) and the side dishes were PHENOM!!! I think they will be a great success! Their underlying flavors were excellent - but whomever was in charge of adding the salt just went overboard on several dishes - almost to the point of being inedible. The dessert was UNBELIEVABLY good - we had the banana pudding (which was more like a banana ice cream) and the strawberry bread pudding - DIVINE! So regardless of a couple of fumbles with the salt - this now goes into the top 5 of our Downtown favorites (The Union, Noja, and Mediterranean Sandwich Company are still at the top). Dessert alone made up for the other food mistakes!!! We will definitely be going back. I think they are just dealing with the being a new restaurant.

Food is great but the air conditioning was broken and service extremely slow. Maybe come back in December when it is cooler or they fix the ac.

We went here just for dessert. It was great. I have no complaints. We got we got the banana pudding, and a strawberry bread pudding. They were both fantastic. This place is also Farm to table which is extremely impressive. I would come back in a heartbeat to try out the actual food. it is BYOB at this point but I'm sure they will get a liquor license; they are set up for a one. It might be required that men have to have a beard to work here. Very cool atmosphere very modern very cool architecture inside.

Love this place. Menu changes all the time so don't get your heart set on anything you may have seen on menus. They usually always have a duck, pork, and blackened something dish. With that said, food is fairly upscale and it's not really all that expensive. Reservations advised on weekends. The servers and host were very nice. Good place to go with a fabulous friend or even a date.

It was a super busy night. It is a cozy place and all the tables were taken but we were able to sit at the bar right away. The bartender Christopher was very friendly and gave us great service. We felt like he needed help as he was making all the drinks for the entire restaurant and trying to wait on diners at the bar. Every dish we had was delicious. There were many choices for vegetarians and I greatly appreciated that there was not pork everything. I will definitely be back for the meatless Monday menu.

This is a real fancy restaurant. The kinds of people that eat here are rich people like lawyers and astronauts. Some of the things on the menu I didn't even know what it was. I did learn that rich people eat rabbits. Before I thought only my friend Bobby eats rabbits. He lives in the woods and is always telling me to bring him alka seltzler plus d and camp fuel. Eating all of them rabbits has messed his teeth up. I got me shrimps and grits because even a simple person like me knows what shrimps and grits is. And a cokecola. It was pretty good I guess. The waitress wouldn't fill up my cokecola after I drank it, but I still had shrimps to eat. I had to ask him for more cokecola two different times.

If you are in Mobile, Alabama, then you must check out The Noble South. All four of our appetizers were extraordinary - pork buns, pepper jelly with blue cheese, fried chicken hearts, and pickled shrimp. The entrees were even better: blackened drum, whole fried mullet, and a rabbit stew. Check it out! You won't be disappointed. Bravo!

Possibly the best restaurant in Mobile. I have been to the Noble South roughly 10 times and have been impressed every time. Ingredients are locally sourced and always fresh. Menu changes periodically, which keeps things interesting, but a few of their staples remain each time. They prioritize quality over quantity, but I find the portions to be very reasonable, sometimes even on the large side at lunch. I would absolutely reccomend trying the Noble South if you have not already done so.

  • J.E. B.

Firstly, the food and service were excellent. Our server, Cassie, was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and wine list. The wine, apps and entrees she suggested were great. It's always a treat to have a server who takes pride in their work. Other than being located on a somewhat unseemly part of Dauphin St, the atmosphere and dining experience were 5/5. So why only three stars? There's no excuse for four of your most popular menu items to be sold out at prime dining hours on a Saturday night. Not cool! Try the oxtails, smoked catfish dip, and chocolate chip zucchini bread.

A work buddy owed me lunch so we drove downtown (5 minutes away) with the intention of eating at [redacted], which is one of my favorites. After parking the car at Beinville Square my sly friend pulled the ole' switcheroo on me and suggested we go the The Noble South instead. I really had my heart set on going to [redacted] but he's paying so...yeah man, lead on! I really didn't know what to expect out of this place. I was going in blind. The hostess was smiling and friendly, the way a good hostess should be. The waiter, a guy with one of those really cool beards that are popular these days, was table-side within seconds and took our drink orders. He was on point the whole time we were there and seemed to actually CARE about what he was doing. I was very pleased with the service. Some downtown Mobile establishments have crappy service. This is not one of those places. Now on to the food...the deviled eggs w/ caviar and crispy bacon was ordered as an appetizer. Very tasty. I love "regular" delivered eggs and the bacon and caviar on these really made them stand out in a great way. For my meal I ordered the grilled shrimp, kale salad, and sweet potato waffle fries. You basically just pick a protein from the menu and then choose your sides. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and superbly seasoned. My mouth is watering now just thinking about them. In fact my fingers still smell like the shrimp and I'm not ready to wash the scent off. That probably makes me weird but so what. ;-) The kale salad was very simple, light and wonderful. It kind of worked as a palate cleanser between the OMGAWESOME shrimp and the OMGAWESOME sweet potato waffle fries. These fries....really, best starch I've ever put in my mouth. Sweet, salty, potatoey...if there is a heaven it is made out of these fries. Mobile needs more places like this. Mobilians need to SUPPORT places like this. The Noble South is was a wonderful surprise for me today and I WILL be back.

Wow! This place has a cool and trendy vibe. The building has been converted into a restaurant but you can tell it is a historic building. I was curious to know what it was before; the brick building with a wood accent interior makes for a fascinating ambiance. The food was perfectly portioned and each mouthful was delectable. I opted for the veggie plate and my husband had the meatloaf. His meat loaf was moist and spicy. My favorite thing (although it was all good) was the squash casserole. Creamy and savory -it made me very happy! The staff was extremely polite and prompt. A great experience.

This is a new restaurant in downtown Mobile. It is a beautifully restored old building with exposed brick. Everything on the menu is locally sourced and farm-to-table. Be sure to make reservations. We went at 5 pm on a Saturday and had to sit at the bar due to their tables being fully reserved. However, it was nice. They do have a fully stocked bar, and interesting champagne cocktail specials. I started with my standard Tanqueray and tonic. The service is very good and friendly. We order the mexican street corn and the deviled eggs with bacon and caviar. Both were delicious, but the corn really stood out. The flavors were amazing. We then moved on to the shrimp and grits for hubby and the mahi mahi for me. His had an interesting twist, in that the grits were finely ground, more like polenta, and it was all swimming in a tomato broth. He declared it "delicious." My mahi was amazing. It was so fresh and perfectly cooked, and the rice and peach sauce complimented it perfectly. I'm sure I left something off of the descriptions, but just trust me, it was amazing. I had the banana pudding for dessert. Hubby is not a fan of this dish in general, so I had the whole thing to myself. It was so good I wanted to lick the plate. You should definitely go to Noble South. It's a great addition to the downtown restaurant scene!

The food was decent. But, the waitress was really b*tchy. We asked for Olive Oil and she got mad and brought us two slices of practically stale and dry bread and when we asked about the Olive Oil, got mad and said she asked the kitchen "four times". She took forever to get a glass of wine. The middle aged bartender with too much p.surgery is super bitchy with a huge stick up herself. Get a better paying job if you are so miserable... She gave us a rude look poured a refill on wine walked away and said something rude about us to another waitress and not a friendly word from her. These women don't know how to put their attitude aside and just be nice to customers. They have issues. Otherwise, it might have been a good place.

Just happened to stop in here for a quick bite and ended up staying for hours! Delicious speciality drinks. The habanero vodka drink was not too spicy but had just the best kick to it. Oysters were fresh and big. Pepper jelly with sourdough toast was a MUST! Could even eat for dessert. Deviled eggs were the best I've ever had. The squash blossoms had the best Chipotle dip inside and were amazing! Great waitress named Frances who was very sweet and informative! Loved this place!

This was my second time at noble south. While the service was great the food was mediocre. We ordered the smoked catfish dip to start which basically just tasted like smoke and the eggplant tapenade which tasted like straight garlic. We then shared the oxtail and marinated crab claws, both were pretty bland and left us unsatisfied. The atmosphere is sterile and cold, which could be fixed with some simple candles/lower lighting to warm the place up. Not the best.

I had lunch there on a recent business trip to Mobile. It's a great location and had a nice atmosphere. The server was very good. I had the most amazing pork chops that I ever had in my life. For my sides I had butter beans which were awesome, turnips which were nothing to write home about and I ordered the cole slaw which was horrible. In spite of the terrible cole slaw Id go back again for those pork chops. Next time I'll stick with french fries and the butter beans.

I had heard a lot of buzz about The Noble South a week ago and decided to check out the menu. It had my attention, (very ecclectic) so I called to make a reservation. Glad I made one in advance, this place is boomin. Within a week I had heard a good number of critiques and had heard nothing but good things, needless to say I was amped. We ended up arriving late but were lucky because there was only one table left. Okay on to the stars, I have to take one off simply because of the drinks and the fact that this place was loud! It was a struggle for me to hear my girlfriend. The first two drinks I tried ordering ended up missing ingredients so I was forced to order a last resort, sweet. So I order a drink with lemon, orange and rum. Hoping it will be managable I was unfortunately wrong. It was way too strong. However Abita root beer was available so that was a plus. Also our waiter was impatient with us ordering he often raced off without asking if we were finished. Now onto the food, I ordered the jerk quail which turned out very nicely so that is a star in itself. The portions though were dissapointing, very small. I believe I had peppers and lentil with it but that simply did not fill me up, bummer. At least the prices were good. Let me end this by saying I appreciate what Noble South is doing here and will return just to give it another shot, it has proven to posess great potential.

It was good. I would say there are a few similarly priced restaurants downtown that are just as good if not better. But I have to give them props for having an evolving menu. I tried two small plates and an appetizer and both were good but nothing really jumped out at me. I've had better deviled eggs. the bacon was cut too thick and so chewy when it should have been crispy. deviled eggs seem to be popular now and since everyone makes them at home they really need to stand out in a restaurant The dessert was probably my favorite part of the meal and I had what was basically a blueberry bread pudding. but I think the owners and chefs are trying something really different and they doing a good job. It was reasonably priced as well: had a drink, an app, two small plates and dessert for 50 bucks. I'll go back.

This place is a mixed bag... First and foremost it was HOT, like uncomfortably, blazing HOT - we were assured this is being taken care of (new AC, etc.); but it makes for a less than pleasurable experience. The apps (our table ordered all of them) were amazing! I was SO excited for my speicial veggie entree (tomatoes 3 ways - the waiter talked it up) - it was, just disappointing. My husband had the shrimp and grits: there were very few grits and a tomato soup type sauce filling the remainder of the plate. I think we both left hungry (after a $100 meal...). Our table also ordered each of the desserts. The chocolate chip zucchini bread was the best by far. The apps are the stand-out. A little larger entree portion size for the price point would be appreciated. It will be a great place, likely in a few months with a new AC and some experience, but for now it is just 3 stars.

Fresh, modern twist on Southern classics. Some food items are sourced locally. Ambience is great... casual and comfortable yet nice, with open and airy feel to it. Although their menu offerings sound intriguing, I find Noble South "not quite there" to earn 5 stars. Our first few visit was very promising, but food and service have been inconsistent since then. Some of the friendly staff we used to see appears to be no longer there. I feel that perhaps the chef is inspired and have a lot of ideas but execution is unfortunately lacking recently. Hoping to go back and be wowed on our next visit.

I've been here twice in the past week and both experiences were great! The first time, we started with deviled eggs (which were so good I had to get them the second time I came in) and my husband had a Sazerac while I had the French 76. Who knew that bourbon and champagne would work so well together? Next up: grouper and shrimp & grits. Their take on shrimp & grits is a little more tomato-y than I would have liked, but good overall. We finally ended with the banana ice cream and they were able to serve it without the crust to accommodate my gluten allergy. The second time I went I tried the pork rib which was AMAZING while my dad had the jerk quail which was also incredibly good. My only complaint is that I asked for a drink off the menu (a Brooklyn) and it came out pink. I should know better than to order off menu when a restaurant has such and extensive house cocktails menu. Props to the bartender for trying but from now on, I'll stick to what they know.

I love places where the menu changes weekly. I also love it, when someone has a Veggie Combo that makes my toes curl. This from a ardent carnivore. The hostess was friendly The waiter attentive. My new favorite place in Mobile.

Good food! Out family stopped here on our way back to Houston. I have decided to make suggestions to restaurants in my reviews instead of "complaints". I worked in restaurants and I love to cook (and eat good food!) This place needs to be more kid friendly, (crayons and paper) I needed more shrimp on my lunch plate. Minimum 5. Other than these suggestions I was happy with the atmosphere and price of the food. Best of luck!

We were a large party, and managed to sit at the window table but because we added more to our initial reservation, we were cramped - i wish they would have added another table for the 3 extra people. Cocktails were yummy. We ordered a few appetizers - the blue cheese with pepper jelly was wonderful but we needed more toast to enjoy it all. We ordered the deviled eggs and they were good and creative with the roe on top. What disappointed me was the tuna esch-something. i was expecting tuna tartare since someone had posted a picture of that on yelp but this was very different, still cold but not quite what i had in mind. we did not enjoy it enough to finish it. I did enjoy the chicken wings very much - would love to know how they made them so crispy. Others ordered the Shrimp and Grits and enjoyed that in a tomato broth. Even the rabbit one teen ordered got a thumbs up. If you bleach your teeth, stay away from the blueberry cobbler. The restaurant has a lot of buzz and the chef has lots of creativity. Prices were reasonable.

First, the hostess acted like she hated her job or wasn't glad to see patrons. No smile. No welcome to Noble South. She seated us and still blank said waiter would be with us. Waiter was friendly and accommodating and not overbearing. Dining companion and I both had fried catfish. Very fresh. Very small portion. We both had fried okra. Cut lengthwise and not in round slices. Really good. Small portion. Friend had kale salad. She and I both did not like. But hey. It's the trendy thing to eat. Tastes like raw collard greens to me. I had succotash. Not at all like Felix's or what your southern momma would cook. It was good and very healthy. We couldn't stand it. Waiter talked us into dessert. Some peach cornbread pudding with iced tea reduction sauce. Ho hum. Pricey for a very meager square at $6. Will we go back? Depends on the mood.

I really don't spare 5 stars too easily, but lunch here deserves every bit of it. Here's why. Service was great, with ambiance to match. I had the lunch menu item with three sides: braised pork, cucumber salad, succotash and Mac & cheese. The pork was a proper braise (check your cook book for the difference), not a stew, BBQ or roast, that you get in most places. They held back the usual vinegar molasses treatment the pork seems to get in south. The cucumber salad had a dressing that was not overpowering and had a dash of dill, nice touch. Succotash surprised, being warm, yet firm with a buttery finish. Lastly, the mac & cheese, firm macaronis with good quality cheese, no oily mess here. Best plate of food I've had in the state. Ok, but here's the real kicker; with ice tea and tax that was $13.20! For that price point that's probably one of the best meals I've ever had :)

My wife and I decided to go with snacks and smalls so we could try a variety if dishes tapas style. We started with the deviled eggs which, as stated in an earlier review, were a bit too salty. We then had the pork rillette which was wonderful. It had a perfect balance of flavor, and the spicy peach chutney was an excellent compliment to the pork. We just needed more toast points. The Cuban Duo wasn't great, but not bad either. The sandwich was a little bit salty, and the black beans were overpowered by one spice. The tomato "ceviche" was refreshing and delicious. The shaved lime ice made the dish. The seafood sausage was ok, but I wouldn't order it again. Maybe just not our thing. The pickled slaw was nice though. The highlight of our meal was the oxtail with sweet potato gnocchi. It was delicious and the flavors well balanced. Would love to see it as a full meal on the menu. I guess I will have to order 2 next time. We had the banana pudding for desert which my wife really liked. The decor was fresh and clean. I liked the atmosphere even though the temperature was a bit on the warm side. Our server, Hunter, did an excellent job. I could not have asked for better service.

We went to The Noble South for the first time tonight, and we are certainly glad we did. Had I not known that they are loosely associated with The Washhouse in Point Clear, I wouldn't have guessed it. Their ambiance is fresh, easy, a bit hip but not in a bad way. The floor is gorgeous and the stained glass vaulted windows are stellar. We were seated at one of the hightop tables that seat 4, and were the first people to arrive at about 6pm on a Tuesday. We got started with a French 75 (which was quite lovely with Aviation gin) and a vodka drink for the hubby, then on to the menu. They offer snacks, smalls, and supper. I immediately knew that I wanted to try many of the items offered, and we definitely got quite a few. We started with the deviled eggs and pork rilletes. Both (snacks) were stellar -- deviled eggs were velvety, the caviar a nice touch and the bacon was perfectly crisped. The pork rilletes were rich, but not fatty, with the right amount of "pork" texture to let you know what you were getting. It was the right amount of smoky and salty, and rich. The peach chutney was a great addition. My only issue was that they need to add another 2-3 toast points, because there is a good amount of pork in the small mason jar. Next we had the tuna tartare and the marinated crab smalls. The tartare was prepared beautifully, fresh and appetizing. The watermelon, sesame, cilantro, and quail egg was a combination I'd never had, and it was quite refreshing for a southern summer. The marinated (snow) crab with roasted beets and onion rings was an interesting combination that exceeded my expectations. So good! Lastly we had the confit chicken wings and the root beer glazed pork ribs. The wings were on the smalls section, but gave a generous portion of wings. Peanuts and jalapeños were atop the tower, so it looked beautiful. This wasn't bad by any means, but it was my least favorite for two reasons -- just messy to eat in a finer dining establishment, and it was a little heavy on the salt for my taste. The grand finale of the evening, however was so incredible. The root beer glazed pork ribs were so amazing, so tender, so flavorful that I can't even fathom how to get it across. There was an amazing spicy cucumber salad on top, and a fresh corn succotash underneath that just completely made the dish sing. I will always want this dish every time I go to the Noble South... But hopefully I can convince myself to branch out and try the other beauties on their menu. Not a hindsight, but I have to mention our server Kristen because she is just so awesome. She led us in the right direction regarding the menu and how to navigate the wine list as well. She's waited on us at the Washhouse and we just adore her. Honestly the least appetizing thing about the Noble South is some of their wine selections :-/ the wine should definitely be upped a notch to match the stellar quality of service, food, and atmosphere. Overall an amazing new addition to downtown Mobile! We are glad to have you!!!

Terrible place. The hostess was rude and disrespectful. We walked out. We didn't expect the Ritz but certainly did not expect somewhere worse than Hooters. I choose not to spend my money where it is obviously not wanted. Dauphin Street is dead and to cause money to walk out of the door means they won't be in business long.

Me and my wife were here a week ago, after ordering our usual two glasses of Pinot Grigio' our waiter talked us into buying a bottle of Sancerre', after describing the bottle, where it was from, and it's history he told us that it was one of his favorites that he was so sure we would love it that he would buy it from us if not! So we went with his suggestion and were not disappointed, after me and my wife asking a million questions about every dish on the menu and the waiter answering every question politely and with detail of every dish, I politely asked if the pork rib was tinder. Our waiter Hunter politely pulled my knife away from the table and told me that I would not be needing it. My wife got the shrimp and grits with a tomato broth and I got the country pork rib over a suckatash, the ambience of the restaurant was casual and fun. We will definitely be returning to this place to try more amazing dishes with the sincere charismatic service to match the caliber of the chefs dishes.

This place is worth the dollars spent. I've been here twice, and both visits were magical. They could have a more diverse beer menu, but their food was consistently delicious. The experience is special and intentional, and I want it to happen again. Both bartenders I have met engage their customers, and give suggestions that actually benefit the client. Why not stop here, why not make this place a staple while in Mobile. I don't have a good excuse.

I've visited the Noble South on several occasions, lunch and dinner, and have never had any complaints! The servers are always very attentive, and eager to offer suggestions. I'm a sucker for chef and wait staff favorites. They will never steer you in the wrong direction! The menus change often, as the chef buys seasonal and as local as possible. Kudos to you, Chris! What most people don't know, is that this is a great little lunch spot! The pimento cheese, bacon and egg sandwich is just as yolky and delicious as it sounds. Something out of my childhood! But my favorite selection from the lunch menu is the vegetable platter. There are always a ton of fresh veggie sides to choose from. The sweet potato fries, macaroni and cheese, kale salad and brussels sprouts always make my plate. Such a healthy and filing lunch, for under $10. For dinner, my favorite entrees are probably the the rabbit and dumplings and the blackened drum. However, appetizers and small plates is the way to go. It's fun to grab a few orders of each to share with the table. That way, everyone gets a couple of bites and you can try a variety of items on the menu. The oxtail, crab/watermelon/feta salad and pork rillette are some of my favorites if they're on the menu when you visit. Be sure to try the signature champagne cocktails and the banana semifredo for dessert!

We sat in the Noble South side car lounge. As always, the smoked catfish dip was delicious. I ordered the grouper as my main course (after finding out the steak was sold out for the night) and I was not disappointed. It was amazing!

Wonderful cocktail, the French 75! Light and crisp with a twist. Had that with the local raw oysters. $9 and $12 for 6. Simple but elegant atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
