El Giro is consistently good in every area. Service is usually good as well. Nice owner/manager. He often makes a point to stop by the tables. El Giro is my go-to place for Mexican food in Mobile.

Our go to Mexican restaurant! Even though it's not all fancy and they definitely didn't go all out on the decorations the $1.50 best ever- super strong margaritas (every day except Friday) are awesome and after 2 you could care less what the place looks like anyway! The new owner is super friendly and we always get the same waitress but she's amazing every time. Chips and queso is so good I can't comment on the salsa as I don't like salsa but the food has never let us down!

Really love this place. Friendly service, fresh complimentary salsa, and the food is great. The combo plates are delicious.. try the tamales. And look out for the margarita specials. This is one of my go to places when I'm in Mobile.

I will say this- the salsa is pretty good- mostly because it is heavy on the cilantro, which I like; but otherwise I don't like this place at all. Both times I've been here I did not like my entrees at all; most of the time I can pick through an entree well enough to be satisfied- but not here. It's kind of hard to describe why the food is bad; poor execution? ingredients? I'm not sure. Just overall badness. It's a small place with hard wooden booths that are crammed in there that aren't that comfortable- but artfully carved I will say. They play loud mexican music with spanish-speaking djs which can be really distracting. I've heard the margaritas are good, but I've never partaken. When they crank up the daiquiri machine that gets loud too. Overall, I wouldn't want to go there again for anything other than the chips & salsa. Maybe a drink. Avoid the entrees.

Just Awful salsa. Then it goes downhill from there. Servers were good, but cooks were very slow (unheard of in Mexican food). Cerveza was expensive. The food looks like a mess. Kids didn't even enjoy it.

I went to this restaurant on a Thursday night and wasn't greeted by anyone. We found a booth and sat down but had to flag down someone to bring us a menu after waiting for five minutes. After that, we waited another 10 minutes until we flagged down another waitress to bring us drinks! I thought that was very unprofessional. I ordered the tacos, mexican rice, and refried beans. The rice was the best I've had at ANY mexican restaurant but the tacos left much to be desired. The meat wasn't very flavorful at all and sort of watery. The chips were good but the salsa was too hot for my taste. Thursday nights they have $3.25 26oz margaritas served in a normal glass. They weren't the best tasting but they were very strong and cheap! I may go back just for those!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
