A generally miserable, rainy and windy Sunday afternoon provided a great opportunity to try this new spot. The patrons were a complete mix of couples, one group (10-12 p.p.) and a couple of families thrown in for good measure. All appeared to be having a good time. This is no dingy "pub." Instead you'll find a well lighted place where you can sit at a clean bar and walk a floor that won't tear the soles off your shoes. First impressions were good as the smiling hostess made room for me at a table with a view to one of the TV's in the dining room (vs. the bar area). I was also quickly greeted by my server Megan (also a good smiler!) who took my drink order and explained the menu was limited to the fairly small brunch section on the menu. It wasn't a big problem for me as I ordered my usual "pub grub," Fish and Chips. My food arrived in a short time and looked good served atop a thicker cut and tasty slaw. I was a bit surprised the "chips" were typical to any setting as I was expecting something a bit more "unique" based on the attention to detail I noticed elsewhere in the restaurant. The relatively lightly breaded fish was very tasty, cooked nicely and was a welcomed change from the triple thick, battered stuff typically found. And smiling Megan politely checked on me throughout my meal which, honestly, I stretched out a bit to avoid the nasty weather. Unfortunately, she failed to offer me a dessert menu as I might have had one to extend my visit a while longer. Bottom line for me: a very nice setting created by detail oriented folks as evidenced by the purse hooks adjacent to each booth and real flatware...not the usual featherweight knives and forks. The entire setting was quite clean and the staff all smiled...what a concept! There appear to be a number of TV blind spots but with good dining company you'll be better off. Give it a shot with friends 'cause I'm going back with mine (all 2 of them) sometime soon.

I was invited for the soft opening and it was just perfect. This restaurant hits a void in the Huntsville market for a family environment for a great Irish/pub mix restaurant. Warm decor, plenty of tv's for sporting events, a great wrap around bar with 20+ seats. I had the boxty cake's for an appetizer, they were dead on with a great mix of flavors a must get. I took a different route for an Irish based pub and went with the chicken curry, the best in town even over the staple of Huntsville, Sitar. If your a bourbon or whisky person you will find this to be your go to spot. Great service and even better ownership, will continue to support these guys as often as I can. A must visit for any Huntsvillian or out of town foodie. Great job guys and good luck!

We were initially sat at a table every close to the bar, it wasn't the best but we were ok with it until a huge group of people came in and gathered at the bar. We asked to be moved and they didn't have a problem with it....although I'm not sure why we were sat there in the first place as there were other open seats. The food was really good and the service was decent. We had fish and chips and bangers and mash, both were really good and what we expected. My only real issue was that it seemed over priced for the style of food. I think both dishes were about $14. I would be open to going back, there were several other dishes that I would be interested in trying especially from the brunch menu.

Went for Sunday brunch absolutely fabulous. The atmosphere was great, the food was fabulous, and the staff was awesome. Definitely a winner in my book. Will absolutely be going back

Well, we ate here on a Sunday. I didn't know that they only serve the brunch menu on Sundays. If I wanted breakfast, I would've gone to Cracker Barrel to appease our two kids. The service was great and I would go back for that. My husband ordered the fish and chips (an Irish/English food staple, yes?) and I ordered the half Irish breakfast. Mine was good, but I wasn't drooling over it or anything; potatoes, sausage, eggs and toast..pretty normal "breakfast". However my husband feels he got ripped because he had one small filet of fish and regular french fries I would expect from Chili's or something. These did not give me the impression of "chips" normally seen in England where Fish and Chips is like our burger and fries. Then he sees the lady next to us get the same meal and her fish was massive and perfectly golden fried, whereas his was small, just a touch of brown and kind of soggy. Major let-down. The kid's meals were good. We want to go again when we can choose from a whole menu. Otherwise, I'm not rushing back.

No matter what someone's age if they order something off a specific part of the menu they have a right to know ahead of time if they are gonna get it not until they get the check and realize they were charged more than double.

Appetizers were great, fantastic price during happy hour. Good selection of draft beer, Irish beef stew very good, all other food items very good. Service very friendly and fast. We were a group of four and were in and out in 1hr.

10 people in our party. Waitress forgot to put 7 of our orders in, probably less got their order correctly. The beer cheese chips are a bag of chips with cold cheese, not beer cheese. I watched the game through half the reflection in the window, listened to the end of it in my car. Its a fantastic place to waste time. On a scale of 1-10, I would say it's awful.

I give the food a 4 plus. It wasn't quite a five, but it's the reason we'll come back. We'll want to have their fish & chips, et al. Sunday the wife and I each had a Half Irish Breakfast. She had the good sense to ask for a go box as soon as she saw the food, and immediately put some of hers in there. I, on the other hand, ate all of mine. It was a little too much food, but it was all too good to stop! My impressions of the restaurant: I was surprised that there were a few steps up to the main entrance. I guess if you bring Great-Grandpa and his wheelchair, you use the ground-level door a few feet away. It was not as bright inside as I expected. Yes, the windows are larger now. But they were relying on them for most of the light at brunch. There was a step down, inside, from the hostess stand area to our dining room! No handrail, no stripe, no warning sign nor mat. I saw it on the way in, but overlooked this step up on my way out. I found it with both feet. Fortunately I was walking slowly and didn't trip. Others may not be as sober, nor as lucky as the Irish. The dining area got too loud for my wife, who was getting a headache. It was loud partly from the room acoustics, but I think mainly because the folks at the large table next to us had been hitting the booze for a while. We had to ask for our check. That is the custom at European restaurants, but Huntsville's workaholics may be in a hurry.

First, there was bicycling on the Indian Creek greenway. Beautiful, easy ride; a little too short and there isn't really a destination close to it, other than connecting Creekwood Park and a few neighborhoods. Our young guide on a bike tour of Dutch windmills chided us: "In America, you travel to bike. Here in Holland, we bike to travel." Huntsville is getting better at urban outdoor recreation and green transportation, but has a long way to go. Anyway, we were very proud of ourselves for making the short flat hot journey and wanted to try this restaurant. We'd read the nice review on AL.com , heard good things from friends and neighbors, had the opportunity. Here we were. The renovated space is very nice. It's not real big, but it's comfortable, not too noisy, and we weren't crashing into the people at the table behind us when we pushed away from our own table, so good enough. Looks like they're adding some indoor-outdoor seating, but it wasn't open yet. Quiet sports on TVs, if you like that stuff - distracting to us. The weather coming in from the superheated vestibule has to be brutal for the hostess, but it didn't impinge at all on us diners. My wife had the fish and chips. She thought they were very good, if a little light on the portion. In fact, overall I'd say the portions on all our dinners weren't the OMG-BIG ones you get at some places. Not stingy, just not gut-bombs. Room for dessert. The tartar sauce was unusual, maybe more horseradish and something else; very good. The fries - OK, chips - were good, the thinner kind with skins. Get that. My daughter had salmon. She thought it was excellent, and it wasn't a bad price for the largest portion on the table. Her green beans were outstanding. Get that. My chicken curry was good. It was American-comfort-food curry, seasoned with an upgrade to the McCormic-style curry powder, not a true Indian curry. Nothing strange, not spicy-hot and not unfamiliar. It was tasty and satisfying, nice comfort food. Oh - perfectly-done rice. Get that, too. We each got a beer and enjoyed the heck out of them. Daughter's Peanut Butter Porter - yeah, peanut butter. What a ridiculous thing to put in your ale, you know? Who thinks of this crap? PB goes on a sandwich. What's it doing in my beer? Oy. AND YET - it was the best of the three. The peanut butter flavor was definitely in there, but it was cheerily playing with the otherwise mellow porter. The combination was friendly, thirst-quenching and went with the salmon. Well, I thought it did. But get that. I got the Trim Tab Rye Brown and my wife got the Hop Burst. Both were much better than OK, though not stellar. We used our Huntsville High School football discount card to get a 10% discount. Really appreciate the place participating in that fundraiser. Since I paid the bill, I get to apply the stars. I give it four. Good, even very good food. Some good beers. Comfortable place to be. Service, by the way, was also good. But it wasn't cheap eats. The value was just adequate. We'll definitely go back, but maybe not a lot. So go there. Try a peanut butter porter. Then maybe hit the movies and call it a date. You'll be happy.

The best restaurant in town. We've been here three times and I am now ready to post a review. The chicken curry is so good it leaves me speechless. The Reuben and the pork chop are phenomenal. A dozen beers on tap, three local. We have never waited for a seat! Great staff. Love this place!

Overall, I'm extremely impressed by "The Original Public House". While the place has only been open officially for two days, I've been back twice and walked out smiling. The decor is sparse, and a little too "clean" for a traditional pub. They simply need more artwork, perhaps book cases, and areas to settle in and lounge as a traditional pub demands. The bar area is small, but stocked with great whiskeys and at least 8-10 taps. That being said, they're still trying to get the taps working properly and at the optimum mix for the nitrogen levels for a proper pint of Guinness. The real stand out is the food. This is definitely a "gastro pub" that brings a new level of cuisine to the area. I've had the "Bangers & Mash" and the Pretzel Chicken Sandwich, both were excellent. Highly recommend to support a wonderful new addition to the Huntsville food scene.

Very, very nice remodel of the building interior. NO smoking odor anywhere in the establishment. Working on a bar addition that shows great potential with outdoor area. Food was on point! I had a Reuben with the cucumber salad and it was fantastic. Service was fast, but not rushed type fast, friendly with moderate prices. Wish it was closer to Madison, though... Good addition to the local line up. Will return for sure!

The food was really good. Not outstanding, but really good. I had the beer battered fish n chips. My wife had the Reuben. For the price I paid, I was disapointed in the one piece of medium sized fish I got on my plate. The coleslaw that it sat on top of was excellent. The red fish sauce on the side had a solid skim on top of it, thus making that unappetizing, but once it was dug through, it was tasty. The Reuben came served on a thin sliced rye bread. Plenty of meat, good tasting kraut, perfect mustard, but the sandwich fell apart because the bread couldn't hold it all together. The service was fine. The atmosphere.... I seemed to think it of it akin to the sterile environment simular to that of a doctors waiting room, except a doctors waiting room has better decor. My wife said it reminded her of a car dealership waiting room. The lighting, even though the lights were dimmed, was harsh on the eyes. Lots of TVs, all on the exact same sports channel. The food and the logo bill The Original Public House as an Irish Pub; the lack of anything Irish (other than a few small pics on the wall that appeared to be there to say: Oh yeah, we're Irish), including the music, made the experience anything but. The environment was so distractingly bland that it took away from the food, which was my single favorite part. We will not be going out of our way to return anytime soon.

3.75 The atmosphere of this place is great. The food was pretty decent as well. A few complaints though... We tried ordering a beer and they were out. Then we tried ordering Jameson on the rocks and they were out as well. After that being a disappointment, we decided against ordering any more drinks. The food also took about 30 minutes to come out, it was not very busy. Overall, I enjoyed the experience though. Would try again.

This place is just OK. I'm going to keep this review short and simple. If you're looking for a gastropub, Below The Radar is above this place on the totem pole. If you're looking for a place to eat with beer right in this immediate area, you can still go to Drake's and be better off. If you just want beer, Straight to Ale is right around the corner. There are better options at comparable or better prices surrounding this establishment. Public House prices their food like they compete with Below The Radar, but they are pretty generic. The 'Fish and Chips' are fairly generic and lacking in flavor. The rest of the food on the table didn't look that much better. The atmosphere here is also incredibly bland. It's like stepping into a trailer or something. If you were to compare this to an actual "public house" like you'd find in Europe with grand interiors and decorations, then you would be sorely disappointed. I'd lump this place into the same category I put places like Brasserie Juno. That category is 'too big for their britches'. The idea of this place is nice, but they simply aren't pulling it off. There are a string of restaurants on the south side of Huntsville that are not half as nice as they would like you to think they are. These places are always mediocre but over-priced for the quality. I'd put the quality of food here on par with Applebees (also right in this area), and the atmosphere below that of Applebees. I wish the citizens of South Huntsville could get the quality of restaurant they obviously want. As it stands right now, it seems they have to resort to 'wishful patronage'. This restaurant gets 3 stars from me. It's not bad, but it's certainly not a place I would recommend to anybody or return to given the options in the same space. It reminds me of 'Broken Clock' (another failed south huntsville business that never quite got it right) so much that I almost wonder if this is not the same owners. I would be surprised if this business lasted another year.

Three stars only because they didn't have cornbeef and cabbage or sheppard's pie. Really? An Irish Pub not serving these favorites?! I would suggest getting rid of the TVs in the dinning rooms, such a distraction and a nuisance. If people can't eat without watching TV, they should stay home and eat TV dinners on their couch. The food was good, Irish Stew and Fish N Chips, and the service was fantastic.

After recently returning to the Huntsville area from living in Northern Jersey, I was looking for a good Irish Pub (gave this place 3 attempts). TOPH is average for food, drinks, and service. The ambience is a bit limited as to what I would expect from an Irish Pub. Overall, a very average experience I wouldn't write home about. If you're looking for an Irish Pub experience, this is

Great experience beginning to end! It's hard to believe this is the same place as the first bar I ever went to, the infamously dank and dark Finnegan's! My wife and I came here for Sunday brunch. I was sad that they were only running the brunch menu since their other items look better, but once I saw all of the brunch dishes going to tables nearby I didn't feel so bad anymore. I had the half Irish breakfast, which was amazing. I think it's a good portion of food, so I'm not sure I would ever get the full one unless I knew I was going to die later that day. Then it's good enough to splurge on. The bangers were amazing. I honestly didn't expect them to be amazing, but I was wrong. I admit it. My wife had the egg Benedict, which she loved. We got a side of grits to share, and the grits here are 2nd best in Huntsville in our opinion (only Grille 29 beats them!). We're really excited about trying this place out for its normal menu at some point before we move in a month, so we like it enough that it warrants a return trip as one of our few remaining meals out in Huntsville! Oh, and the service was amazing. Our waitress was prompt and courteous. Even the host who met us at the door chatted and seemed happy to be working there, which is such an amazing first impression! From my other reviews, you can see quickly that service sets a huge tone for me. The food came out about twice as quickly as we expected, so whatever the kitchen staff is doing (unless it's speed), I hope they keep doing it!

First time here. Heard a lot of good things so I took my boyfriends mom here for lunch while she was visiting. She grew up in Ireland so she was skeptical at first but ordered the Irish stew. I got a cheese burger and side of mashed potatoes. Our server was also the bartender. He was great! Very friendly. Chatted with her a little as she told him a little about herself. The food came out pretty quickly. Mashed potatoes. Yum! Kind of lumpy/chunky but I don't mind them like that. At least I know they are real! The burger was good. I guess it's not the kind of place where you give them the temp u want it cooked to because I wasn't asked so it was cooked well done. And for a 1/4 lb burger it looked pretty thin to me but it was good. The bun was toasted perfectly. I liked it. But I've had better. I guess it was a little dry. Nothing to complain about but something to mention here. My boyfriend's mom was very impressed w her stew. She actually ate every bite! I've eaten out with her a few times and I think this was the first time I saw her eat everything on her plate. I was so happy she liked it! The inside is cute too. We didn't look around too much but it looks like they might be doing some renovations on the other side of the restaurant. I'd go here again. Maybe I'd try the stew next time.

The public house seemed new to me, we were looking for Finnegans. We stopped in at about 1030 PM on Saturday night and they had a full menu. What a great place to come to after party Saturday night. It's fantastic. Try the fish tacos, if you don't like them I'll buy them for you. My wife had the fiery shrimp please stop by here before seeing a movie, you won't be disappointed!

This place has all of the atmosphere of a captain D's. Scott selections passable, but they only have six beers on tap at any given time, two of which are local selections. For an Irish pub to only have three Irish beers is unheard of. The worst part is the service. Our party arrive during happy hour only to be informed that happy hour specials were not happening that evening because a portion of the proceeds were being donated to charity. Keep in mind this was after we had already ordered drinks which were now at full price on our tab. I couldn't care less about your philanthropy, just serve me drinks at your prices as advertised.

Went in for brunch & it was packed! A good sign right, wrong. Ended up sitting at the bar. Bartender was obviously overloaded bc it took forever & a year to get water! Ordered eggs benedict & food also took 10yrs. Eggs benedict were sub-par & bland. Bacon and the normal stuff are considered extras! I added pepper & struggled to get the food down bc I was hungry. Friend ordered biscuits & gravy & mentioned Popeyes gravy is better. The portions are small so you may want to eat before coming in.

Got in fairly quickly, even without a reservation - should have sat at bar, dining room is way too loud. Great & fast service...chicken curry & chips (french fries) were good (not great, need to work on recipe...more cumin, less curry powder) - hubby had 3 dip app, tuna dip great, the other 2, so so...Irish stew was bang on, bangers & mash a tad strange with apple sauce, instead of onion gravy...should offer mushy peas & gravy instead. Where's the Shepherd's/Cottage pie?? Good ambiance, but missing 'proper pub decor' & a bit too bright, I'm used to a pub atmosphere - we'll be back, must try fish'n'chips!
