Really good, authentic Mexican. The tacos are excellent. Burrito is what I am use to and not one of these over sized taco that they call a burrito. This place is the real deal and I am glad I discovered it and took the chance stopping in and trying them.

Don't forget to try the tortas ($5) if you aren't very hungry or the enchiladas rancheros ($7.50) if you are extremely hungry.

Really good, authentic mexican. The tacos are excellent. The chile relleno is great. They have a nice little salsa bar. Also many authentic mexican dishes like tongue and tripe tacos.

Ay caramba! Where do I begin! As a transplant from Southern California I am used to getting my Mexican food kicks from taquerias, which essentially are taco stands peppered throughout Los Angeles. So imagine my surprise when I found out that Huntsville has its own taqueria. So far I've only ventured out to the brick and mortar location dozens of times but am definitely going to visit their "satellite" locations for an even more authentic (and nostalgic) experience. Food: The food here is the best true Mexican cuisine in town. All the meat choices (yes I've had both the tongue and tripe) are excellent in any meal choice. The tacos are outstanding. No hard shelled tacos stuffed with lettuce here. Just two small corn tortillas, meat, cilantro, and your choice of salsa. It's tacos done right. The burritos are massive, tortas (Mexican sandwiches) taste great, and their other dishes are simply overflowing with food. Don't believe me? Try the Carne Asada and see if you can finish that beast! I've placed a large order (25+ tacos of various meats) and taken it to a work picnic. Needless to say they didn't last long. A salsa bar with pickled vegetables is available so you can try a variety of different salsas. To top it off they offer "aguas frescas" which are flavored drinks in the form of tamarindo (a bitter sweet drink made from tamarinds), mango juice, and my all time favorite, horchata (rice-milk cinnamon drink). Service: The place can get busy and packed (a sign of its growing popularity) and service can slow down a bit, but the food is completely worth it. The staff is pretty friendly too. Location: To me, its location is right where a taqueria I'm used to should be located: in a hole-in-the-wall mini mall. The fact that it's wedged in between an antique store and a tattoo parlor actually humors me in that would probably be located in a similar place in So Cal. It adds to its authenticity. Overall: Highly recommended! Bring your friends and appetite!

Good stuff. I ended up (through no fault of the restaraunt) with the wrong plate (I ordered a pork chimichanga I ended up with chicken). The chicken chimi was great- this says a LOT, it takes a lot to impress me with chicken. I highly recommend this place. Oh, and yes they have TV, but it is on Latino DTV...

Fantastic, authentic Mexican food. Just like the streets of DF (almost DF, is a little better, and costs 15c). Double corn tortilla with braised meat and lime and cilantro ,and served with pickled onion and carrots. There are three of these Taqueria El Cazador's in Huntsville. This one on Memorial, 9th and governors (a school bus) and Drake/Triana (a truck in a shed). I heard a rumor there is another on the other side of University, I will have to check that out. They are all good, but this is the real restauramt, with a choice of 15 additional sauces and toppings and salsa's. The Cabeza (head/cheek) taco's are amazing. Very tender and tasty, highly recommend them. 4 for $6.

I was really looking forward to eating from this taqueria. But sadly, it didn't live up to the hype. I've had waaaay better in Philadelphia. The al pastor tacos down here are definitely not authentic; they used ground pork whereas traditionally, spit-roasted pork would be used. The two good things I did get from El Cazador were the mango agua fresca and the steak burrito. The chips weren't fresh and a little overdone. I can't comment on service b/c I took my food to go. I won't be going back.

I'm a little late on this one. I went here for lunch yesterday, and it was great. I had known about the trucks bearing the same name for a while, and frequent them often. Its good to know there is a sit down equivalent because this food is sit down good. Also - as a bonus to this indoor location - check out the sauce tables. There is a thick green hot sauce, from what I can tell its a mixture of avocado and jalapeno - its delicious. Probably the most authentic Mexican restaurant in Huntsville, and even better they are open 10-10 7 days a week. Check this out if you haven't yet.

Very average. Not a lot of flavor. Wouldn't go back.

I believe there are multiple locations for Taqueria El Cazador. This review is for the location on Governors Drive in Huntsville (between Memorial Parkway and 565). They have great authentic Mexican food for cheap prices. They operate out of one of those mobile food vehicles, but this seems to be a permanent location. They offer things like Mulitas for $4, Burritos $5, Soft Tacos for $5. You get to choose what kind of meat you want and they even offer more "exotic" choices like beef tongue. The food is yummy! There are a couple of covered picnic tables available, but I always get my food to go. If you go there at night, just remember to be aware of your surroundings. During the day, I've had people come up asking me for money...just something to be aware of.

Fantastic tacos! When I travel and crave authentic tacos this is what I am looking for. Free chips, salsa, and pinto beans. It seems a little divey, but all yelpers know this is where you find the best food. I ordered 4 langua and 2 cabesa tacos. Loved them! Wash it all down with some horchata!

Excellent food and fast service. The combo fajitas were enough to feed two easily. I'll definitely be back.

A friend and I paid a visit to El Cazador (memorial parkway location) and we were not disappointed. I ordered chicken tacos, and let me tell you, those things were legit. 4 tacos for something like $5-$6 plus rice and beans for $2.99. I also got a Mandarin flavored Jarrito (mexican soda) and it was delicious as well. So delicious, in fact, that the very next place I went was the local mexican grocery store to purchase several Jarritos. El Cazador also has free chips and salsa, and the employees are very courteous.

The food was good and tasty. I had the "mojarra frita" (deep fried fish). The fish itself was kinda small and dry. The beans and rice were very good. I would go back again but I would get tacos instead of the fish. Overall I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family.

My Mexican friend recommended this place and sworn its as authentic as it gets for HSV :D I usually get tacos (number uno, I think), and hadn't been disappointed. The beef has pretty good flavor. Their flour tacos are always soft and warm. Squeeze some line, sprinkle a heap-full of pico de gillo, ask for more cillantro, fold and shuffle as much as one can into mouth :D YUM! Husband got different things everytime and he liked them all. The price is very cheap with free-for-all sauce, pico de gillo, chips, salsa, etc car. Woot! :D

All you need to know is that the tacos are legit and you can get a plate of 4 for under six bucks!! This places fills the taco void that I have had since leaving Co. and being introduced to great Mexican food out west.

Simple plebeian fare served in a spotlessly hygienic eating area. Cheap and filling, but not gourmet. I would guess the menu is based on north-central Mexican cuisine. My husband ordered his usual chicken tacos, and claimed they were always good here. I guess the kitchen has gotten better at processing the raw chicken before cooking it. I took a chance on the shrimp soup ($12) and found it bland, not over-salted, and thermally HOT. I couldn't tell if the 8 or 9 shrimps were old or just over-cooked. At least I couldn't possibly get food poisoning. In contrast, the surprise snow crab leg was sweet and perfect. The temperature made it messy to remove the shrimp heads & exoskeletons and besides, I find shrimp boiled with all their parts gives soups an unpleasant taste. The condiment bar allows you to serve yourself chips, pinto beans, sliced cucumbers & radishes as well as a variety of salsas, pico de gallo and marinated carrots & onions. Order from the picture menu and find a table. Your food is brought when ready. Plastic forks, metal soup spoons, hard plastic dishware. 2 TVs tuned to Spanish stations.

Great authentic tasting tacos with homemade corn tortillas. Loved the meat options expecially the beef tongue and beef cheeks. Plan on visiting every time I am back in Huntsville.

I think this place could very well serve up the best tacos in Huntsville. (You'll see a taco truck parked out front of the Memorial location and they run the Taco Bus on Governor's, if that gives you any reference.) So why only 4 stars, you say? Because all I've eaten here so far is the chicken and al pastor tacos, so I can't vouch for anything else on the menu. Yet. If you're going over the lunch hour, try to get there before noon or you'll have an extra long wait 'cause this place is popular. I think it's an awesome sign when you're the only non-Latino in the joint, because then you know it's authentic food. (Am I wrong?) Generally I've only seen one server, who is the same person taking your order at the counter. And she's always swamped, though she keeps her cool. Prices seem reasonable - I think a single taco is around $1.75-$2.00 so you're not going to break the bank. The guac is spicy and worth a side order. Menu is varied - choose from ala carte tacos, burritos, etc or combo plates. They serve canned or bottled Mexican coke and bottled water out of a cooler, and there's a little salsa bar up front. Watch out because many of these sauces are deceptively hot, so sample before you pour it on your food. You might see me here this afternoon! Definitely worth a stop.

I have passed this place many times while driving down the parkway, but I never noticed it on yelp. I found it recently so I decided to try it. I had e tamale plate for only $5! It was one of the best tamales I've had. I heard the tacos were also great, so I'll try them next time. Inexpensive and delicious. I love the large bottles of Mexican coke. Salsa is free at the salsa bar and it's great. I strongly recommend this place to anyone who wants authentic Mexican food. They also have a few buses in bad parts of town, and they are just as good.

The 1st time I visited I had an excellent experience since then the quality of the food has consistently deteriorated. I usually frequent this establishment on the weekends when it seems to be somewhat busy. The carne asada and chicken meats now come complete with bone bits and tons of gristle. The flan is frequently overcooked and scary. I wish they would take more care in preparing their meats as that is the main component of ALL of their dishes and the sole reason I hesitate to return.

I went out of the way searching for these guys, and was not disappointed. The only reason I didnt give it a 5 star was the wait. I had the tacos - 2 beef and 2 chicken. Delicious and fresh...authentic. They are small tacos btw!

This was our first time here. A friend from Cali recommended it and it did not disappoint. We were definitely the minority, which is a good sign. We got mango juice & Jarrito pineapple soda to drink. My husband chicken tamale plate and he liked it. I got chips & guacamole due to a prior review and it was spicy and chunky and delicious. I ordered the chorizo con huevos and it was amazingly good. It comes with retried beans, rice, and 4 tortillas (corn or flour, your choice). I highly recommend. I could only eat half as they give large portions, but my husband happily finished it off. We will be back!

I have finally found a hidden gem in Huntsville. Some of my coworkers took me to have some tacos. I was a little surprised when we drive up to a bus. It is actually a restaurant that is half a kitchen and half a little dinning area, and they also have outside seating. I had the tacos and the tamales. Both were good, but the tacos were really amazing. It is the first real Mexican I have had since I have moved here. The Taqueria El Cazador bus houses both the kitchen and dining room, which seats up to 10. The menu has all the Mexican favorites - tacos, burritos, quesadillas - and also offers several meat choices, including chicken, stewed beef, beef cheek, beef tongue, spicy pork and tripe. The prices are really cheap and they are very quick with service. I defiantly am going back.

Solid and authentic taqueria style Mexican. I still rank my hometown San Pancho or Don Pedro just *slightly* higher, but this was good. Here I got a chicken taco, and a mulita (taco sandwich). The mulita at Don Pedro is pretty filling, lots of meat, some cheese, decent amount of avocado. Here it was a bit flatter, not as much asada, decent amount of cheese, one slice of avocado. Good and authentic, but slightly flatter than Don Pedro's (and I think they're 2.29 at DP vs. 2.50 here). Chicken taco was good, the meat at DP or SP may be seasoned a bit more than it is here, but still good. The salsa bar here had these annoying lids on everything that you had to move aside in order to get at the salsas. They should invest in a normal salsa bar with sneeze guard. Small gripe though. I managed to get at my basic dark red and green salsas. Overall, solid 'street' type Mexican in a converted old house that kind of reminded me a bit of Don Pedro.

Extremely good, authentic Mexican food out of an extremely unassuming school bus. Before you oft-pretentious Huntsvillians hit the 'Back' button on your browser, read this. This bus is much CLEANER than many restaurants I've been in. The food is nothing short of phenomenal. The portion size is almost enough for two. My personal favorites are the tostados with chicken and the quesadilla with beef. Whatever you order, you get carrot slices that have been pickled in a jalapeno juice. Spicy + carrot.... YUM. You order what you want (quesadilla, tamales, taquitos, etc) and then you choose from only about a bajillion meats to go inside. They have pretty much any meat you could want, even beef tongue (which frankly is a little too weird for me, since you can see the tastebuds on it). $5 will fill you up. The guys that work there are great, even when the place is overrun by white people who call the chicken 'polo', like the sport. Absolutely a must-try.

When people learn that I moved to from California to Alabama, the usual response is "WHY would you do such a thing?" Regardless of the answer, it's been tough to find authentic Mexican food since my arrival. I ate at the actual restaurant, located in a really shady strip mall that just screams East L.A. This is a laid-back hole in the wall establishment, but that only serves to highlight their awesome food. I got three tacos (chicken, pastor, and carne asada) and was in heaven. I feel like they may take the spice down a bit more than I am used to, and so, to put it in a nice way, I think they are probably just being sensitive to the needs of the majority of their clientele. Oh but there's Tapatio to liven up your plate, as well as a little bar on the side with pico de gallo, salsa, and the like. Oh they also have Jarritos and mexican CocaCola, as well as Horchata and Tamarindo. But no Jamaica :( Gimme my hibiscus juice!

This is a great little place to stop to get some authentic Mexican food. They are very consistent and the food is always cooked well and properly seasoned. It's also somewhat of an adventure if you have never eaten on a bus before. Good Stuff!

Once again, if you want good Mexican food, go where Mexicans eat (don't you wish it worked for Italians and Italian food too? still looking for that...). This place is fantastic. Really good, really simple mexican food that's seasoned well and has good heat. i don't consider myself as someone who can ever accurately declare any kind of restaurant to be "authentic," unless I've lived in said place. So far that tally includes the States and England, not Mexico. I can't tell you if this really is how Oaxacan food is prepared. What I can tell you is that it's better food than, quite frankly, i can get in the American Southwest (have you missed my shout-outs to CO? for shame!). The food is freshly made, really flavorful, not overwhelming, and the menu variety is commendable. I personally LOVE the chicken tacos for lunch (4 is enough for me), which come in lovely corn tortillas with nothing but cilantro and onions to garnish, and the combination emphasizes all the important flavor points optimally. However, splitting the innards between the two tortillas (each taco is double-wrapped) affords you room to add in their great salsa like the roasted tomato, SO GOOD!!! Also, remember to try the Oaxacan (wah-ha-can, just FYI) guacamole, which is blended smooth and mixed with crema to give it a little richness. glorious. If I'm really hungry when dinner rolls around, I get the chimichanga, also chicken. honestly, the chicken is addictive. This is not like a typical deep-fried chimi, and is instead cooked either on the grill or the stovetop to crispy golden perfection. PERFECTION, PEOPLE. I'm drooling just thinking about it, mmmmmmmmm. As for service and ambiance... service has never been a problem, the girl on the register is a sweetie, and if anyone pops out from the back, they're usually checking the futbol scores on the tvs and will send you a smile. ambiance-wise, it's... interesting. El cazador means the hunter, and the framed pictures on the orange walls are of deer. I just chalk it up to their nod to the John Deere trends and leave it there. the tvs either have futbol or telanovelas on, in Spanish, of course, so if that annoys you, get your food to go. Last, you can leave your plate and such on the table, but if you do PLEASE LEAVE A TIP. there's a jar by the register. be nice, the food is affordable enough for you to do that or bus the table yourself. trash can's next to the door with the bucket for silverware on top.

Our Family likes to go here to eat. My husband discovered the bus that they have when he went out to lunch with his coworkers. The restaurant is just as good. Tonight we had Tamales that were one of the best we have had here in this town. They're big, have just the right amount of spiciness and they don't skimp on the meat. So far we haven't found anything we don't like and the service is always very good.

This is the brick & mortar location. The food is really good, no matter the location. Everything is prepared on order so there is no concern about it sitting around. It should be noted that this building location (as opposed to the bus or truck) has a more extensive menu and a salsa bar. Six salsas, plus pico, and tiny lemons; tamarindo, horchata, and mango drink options plus everything in the refrigerated drink cooler. I cheesed it a bit and instead of getting what looked like a grilled/broiled fish plate, I just got the burrito plate with lengua as the protein. My lunchmate got pastor and lengua mulitas. Both were very tasty. The mulitas were so crisp, fresh, and hot that they warped the plate that they were brought out on. When you get the burrito on it's own it has rice, beans, and your protein choice all wrapped inside. When you get the plate here, it is a mount of protein, wrapped, and covered in melted cheese with the beans and rice on the side with sour cream. Also, the plate is HUGE. It is much easier to eat than I thought (lighter, even with the cheese and beans) but still a bigger meal than I expected. Easily the best mexican food in town.

We've been to the "mexican bus" on Governor's and have a positive experience each time, so why not try the "mother ship" and eat at this authentic Mexican restaurant. What's authentic about it? Well, the dishes are much less tex-mex than the average Mexican fare and that equates to a very fresh and flavorful selection. Choose your meat (there's some exotic variety if you dare) and most any item from burritos to tacos and beyond are prepared. The salsas (at least 6 varieties) are amazing. There's a creamy jalapeno paste that's delightfully spicy if you like that sort of thing. Unlike the garden-variety Mexican you may know, you don't get chips for free... but they are worth it to enjoy the salsa. The burrito plate is a massive amount of food. You won't leave hungry with anything however. When we asked for a tip... on how to soothe a "hot" mouth, we were told "um, er, uh... eh, ah, candy?... I dun know." and we think that means "the only thing we have for free is this little peppermint."

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
