Try: Tiger Cry Steak (NOT a lunch special) Chicken Masaman (Lunch special) These are my two favorites. The Tiger Cry Steak may be the best steak in Huntsville, with the spicy au jus they serve with it, it melts in your mouth and is absolutely delicious. My girl loves their Lemondrop Martini's, I'm kind of happy about what they do to her :-)

I used to live in Seattle, where exceptional Thai food could be found just about on every street corner. I got a little spoiled. Traveling to the Huntsville area for work, on my last day of the trip I was treated to a torrential downpour. That combined with the typical "4th day on the road" fugue of too much (amazing) fried southern food and too much beer, lead me to some Yelp roulette to find something different to eat. Surin of Thailand won the day. It's in a strip mall setting, and so dark it looked like it was closed. Contrast that with smiling faces, great service, and a genuinely caring staff. Food-wise, I ordered Panang curry and Maker's on the rocks. I ordered the spiciest they could do, and it came out about 3/5 stars, but the flavor was great. I also eavesdropped on a gent dining alone at the bar. He ordered a martini like he knew his way around a gin bottle, and was very happy with the bartender's creation. Overall - service is 4 stars, food is 3 stars for what I tried. Check it out.

Second time at this particular facility. Couldn't leave town with bad thai taste. This place is always busy, and the variety of choices in the menu does not disappointing either. The tea was great! 5 starts on that, perfect combination of tea and cream. However the summer roll was lacking in flavors, the sauce helped but finding a shrimp inside after toy

Usually really good, but today my service stunk

Food was ok but not great. The Thai noodles we're sweet and overly sauced and the 2 dishes we had lacked taste. The sushi looked good. Ok if your in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there

We ate there as a last ditch effort to squeeze in a meal before our date to Spirited Art, and we were not disappointed. Having suffered through a meal at Surie in Madison, we did not have high hopes. Before continuing, I do have to mention two things: 1.) The best Thai food in town is still Thai Garden in five points. 2.) This place is eerily similar to Phuket in ambiance, decoration, and menu selection. Not sure what the connection is between them, but there's a connection somewhere without a doubt. That being said, my wife enjoyed her Thai noodles and I enjoyed the barbecue chicken, but I wouldn't necessarily order either again. The Curries smelled nice, so that would likely be my choice next time. I can't do pad Thai as my only food, so I wouldn't recommend the Thai noodles as an entree, but my wife liked them fine. We plan on going back as it's close to our church and a few other things we enjoy, but it's not at the highest priority.

The Good: The main dishes were pretty satisfying overall. I got the chicken curry and my wife got the Thai noodles (pad Thai). The portion sizes were appropriate, definitely didn't leave hungry. Service was nice and always around when you needed them. The Bad: The menu didn't seem well structured and it didn't look like there was any type of theme to the dishes.. It kind of looked like the menu creator got a little over excited with a 1998 version of windows word art... That 1998 word art theme also seemed to translate to the overall decor and ambiance of the restaurant. Let's say that it could use an update. And the Sushi: We got a roll of sushi for starters, and it probably was some of the worst I've had. We also got crunchy squid (calamari); also pretty weak. I'm not sure if it was poor quality sea food or the preparation, but the two seafood items we got were sub-par. Overall: I was not upset or dissatisfied after leaving, I just was not really impressed. I'm excited to try out the other Thai places before coming back.

Love the sushi. Good portions and very tasty. Had the #4 and #3 sushi combos and can recommend them both. The spicy beef salad and BBQ chicken is also outstanding and very satisfying. Always with a dirty martini! Good food but I think the authentic Thai flavors are hiding in something I haven't tried.

I love this place and have been coming for years. I have noticed a slip I'm quality but I still love the food. I can not attest to know anything about the authenticity of the food to Thai cuisine but I like it so that's what matters. I like anything smothered in curry or sauces here. They are so creamy and flavorful! The reason I keep coming back though is the coconut soup. It is the best thing ever and no matter how hard I try I just can't replicate it! Because of that they have me as a costumer for life

Wow, this place is no where near as good as the Surin in Atlanta. First of all, they pack people in like sardines. I was sitting less than a arm's length away from another table. Food is pretty awful if you are looking for authentic Thai, but not the worst I've had. Sushi is typical Huntsville sushi I've found so far, sketchy but edible at best. Service was okay but rushed. Wife did not like her entree at all. Not worth the hassle in my opinion. What's up Huntsville? Where's the good Thai sticky icky? So far I've had this and a place that served Nam Sod with Iceburg lettuce. WTF?

Excellent choice for a sit down lunch. Service is remarkably quick, clean and friendly place as well. Food is delicious, sushi especially. Love the miso there.

My first day in Huntsville my buddy and I were supposed to have lunch with his wife but I overslept (naturally). So the two of us hit up Surin before our trek to Birmingham. I had my first ever Thai food with him as well so it was almost like full circle. This place was PACKED with the lunch crowd. A few observations. A. Their pad thai was just called 'thai noodles'. B. They serve sushi (WTF?). C. Their tom kha isn't even called that. (people say it's spicy too!?). Anyway, I got the 'thai noodles' with shrimp and chicken as the lunch special. It was pretty standard but my only complaint, it was heavy on the tamarind. The lunch portion ($8) was pretty darn big too. I couldn't eat all of it. It also came with a cup of the aforementioned soup. We shared an order of Thai basil spring rolls and they were also delish. The service was attentive yet forgetful, I think there were 2-3 servers running the whole completely full floor. Not bad but not great. Not sure how i feel about sushi at a Thai place and what Thai they had seemed over Americanized.

One word: Masaman! This is the best Thai dish I have ever eaten and it is perfected at this particular Surin location. I have had the BBQ chicken before and it is quite good as well. Try them both. The service has been great everytime I visited. Go for lunch... $7 for a spectacular meal. Be early because it gets really packed. I like to go towards the end of the lunch rush.

Not my favorite Thai food. I've spent two months in Thailand, so Im a bit picky. Good cocktails though.

  • John M.

Outstanding food... thai dishes, stir fry, and sushi! It's all good. My only complaint is that many of the tables inside are too close to each other, so we usually sit on the patio (which is heated and cooled).

Best Tai in town. I love the dumplings with cury sauce.....hmmmmmm. There temperature is just okay for starters but if you like real good Thai spice, you need to ask they to make your curt extra spicy.

  • Amanda S.

This is our favorite place in town to get sushi. It far exceeds the quality of any sushi I have had here in Huntsville. It's not cheap but it's worth it and if you order sushi at lunch it comes with the coconut soup which is a wonderful treat! Yummy yummy roll is my favorite. Lunch entrees are a good value. Things I have tried here that are outstanding are: Pecan crusted trout and the thai noodle If you are afraid of Thai food don't be, it's one of my favorites!!

The Thai food here is tasty- I enjoy their BBQ chicken, catfish, and duck. They have great lunch deals and sizable portions. The dining atmosphere is nice and relaxed.

I used to love Surin, but was very disappointed yesterday - was eating in with a friend- ordered wasabi maki roll $15 and another roll for $14- these rolls used to be good size portion for a meal - not this time! Smallest, skimpiest rolls!!! And there was no ginger or wasabi on the plate, the plating was poor, not attractive and they both were served on one plate with lots of room to spare!!! And server did not bother to bring our soup, although it's included with both rolls, until we asked for it. Also we saw our server twice during entire long ( almost 1.5 hours lunch. Gave 1 star just for the sour plum martini, that was great as usual, I'm going to I love sushi for sushi next time!!! Might give Surin another try in a few months. Sad- used to go once every 1-2 weeks:(

Not a fan of the sweetness. Today I ordered a spicy garlic dish with chicken and was disappointed. The sauce, in my amateur opinion, tasted more like something to accompany pancakes rather than spicy or garlicky. I'm not very experienced with Thai food but I am a very huge fan of Indian so I feel like I should have something spicy when I order something with 'spicy' in the name. I was also disappointed that the total contents of my dish was chicken, garlic syrup sauce, and lettuce leaves. Not worth $12.

I have been to this location a couple of times now. The food isn't bad...but it is far from great. It is very Americanized and bland, which I'm sure some enjoy, but it isn't for me. The one thing I will go back for is the tofu or shrimp coconut soup. As far as the atmosphere, it was fairly noisy, slow service, and the servers were not very knowledgeable.

Surin: It's THE Thai/sushi place in Huntsville. Or maybe it's the OTHER Thai/sushi place... depending on whether or not you like what Phuket has going on. Sure, I know Thai Garden is generally considered the authority on authentic Thai in Huntsville but I never got the warm fuzzies there. So for me, if it's Thai and near Huntsville...I'm going to Surin. In fact, I've been going to Surin since maybe 2004 although I used to see it in Atlanta in the Highlands all the time. The Huntsville spot was my first real visit since 1) Thai food was limited ten years ago and 2) many other options in ATL. Anywho... Surin has been a steady dose of general curries with a few dishes that stand out. Of the tried and true, the duck curry is a great intro dish for someone who's leary about Thai. The Thai tea however is FAR TOO SWEET. The sushi is solid and better than what you'd get at a lot of other places that are "sushi" bars. Also, try the larb. They've expanded the space now so there's a much quieter option for dining with open tables and even cosy(?) booths. So if you have a need to not yell at your lunch companions... ask to be seated in the new area. I'm not sure how one you're going to be able to get away with calling it "new, " however.

Surin is my favorite thai restaurant here in huntsville. I love their chicken panang in particular. The best panang i ever had. My husband is a fan of their shrimp curry. Would definately keep visiting this place

Upon first entering the dim-lit establishment, one is greeted with an all too familiar setting; no different than Phuket in Providence. The waitress immediately brings me a glass of iced water, menu and cutlery sans chopsticks; thank you? I briefly peruse thru the menu to see the presentation, description of the dishes. A tri-fold menu lacking Thai dish names. Hmm. Moving on, I inquire about an exquisite fresh seafood salad, yam taleh, I'd grown rather fond of in the last three years. The waitress recognized what I described but said the it was not on the menu, so she proceeded to make her recommendations upon my request. Without hesitation, the most expensive dishes on the menu are described and recommended. I thanked her and asked for a few more minutes to truly explore the menu, not that it was a true thai menu, having more than half its contents Japanese derived dishes. I ordered the shrimp & chicken Pad Thai. It's traditional, and to my Thai-accustomed tongue, a dependable indicator of the rest of the menu. The presentation was indicative of the experience; average at best but could easily fool a novice. A few bean sprouts and chopped peanuts lined the side of the plate. The noodle and meat mixture was slightly orange, though not the brownish hue I'd seen before. I mixed it all, and had the first bite. The sauce had good flavor, but wasn't great. It missed having more carrots, green onions, and where were the eggs? Counting the two shrimp, I saved them for last so I'd enjoy them as my lunch the next day. The noodles to chicken ration allowed for a culinary treasure hunt, and it seemed the two were cooked separately and then mixed for presentation. The chicken pieces has a base bland taste as if it had been precooked separately, and later joined with the noodles. In closing, if you have an experienced Thai palate, it's average and edible, though far from what you would expect for a true Thai experience. However, if you're a novice, it's a start.

I hated my first and only experience here. When the people sitting next to me left their table, I literally got a butt in my face. Ugh. I know you gotta make a profit, but would it kill you to move the tables more than 4" apart? I had something called thai spaghetti and it was not very good. My husband didn't like it either, so I was stuck with it. Generally, I've found that thai and tapas and anything remotely not "meat and potatoes" is difficult for HSV to do properly and be accepted by the public. I do love 1892 east though.

"3.5 Stars" Takeout on a Friday evening. Place was very busy. Located in a strip mall so there is plenty of parking. Ordered Satay Chicken ($6.50) and Pad Thai ($10.50). Well it wasn't really Pad Thai...they call it Thai Noodles w/Chicken and Shrimp. Didn't think it was a good as Pad Thai that I have had elsewhere, but it was ok. Thai Iced Tea is pretty good. Judging on the crowd, this is a good place to hangout with friends and eat. Bar with six chairs at it. Seemed to have a good selection of beer, alcohol and wine.

My wife an I have been patrons of Surin since they opened 10 or more years ago. The first 3 we probably visited 20 times each year. So we became accustomed to quality in every way except one which I will bring up later. There simply wasn't a bad dish to be had . And I tried half of them. My favorites are the panang curries and the nom tok beef, barbecue chicken, and the cashew stir fry. the ambience is nice too. But time progresses and we grow as a city meaning more competition. Can anyone say Phuket? And the original Thai cuisine in town, Thai Garden, still pumping out good food albeit still hung on plastic plates. So over the last 6 weeks my wife has visited twice and I went last week with her. First off, my wife's trip without me was somewhat of a bust. She asked for the Yum yai salad but it had no peanut sauce which the menu clearly stated. Instead it came with a clear sauce. The waiter didn't have a clue what the menu stated it should have. My wife has had this many times with the peanut sauce. Thats two errors-kitchen and waiter. he later brought out peanut dressing to pour over the clear dressing. Gee thanks. Then last week, we order masman beef and cashew stir fry. both are supposed to have some heat to them. nothing , nada. no heat. and rice was served that was obviously taken from some other table that hadnt finished due to the bowl being half empty and the rice being clumpy and hard. gross. We asked for new rice and were given some. All this being said-the food was good, but ----we missed the heat. I admit I should brought it up with the manager. Hopefully he will read this one. I have seen him there since day one. Any way, things are different these days , when on a Saturday night Surin is only half full of diners. And college football has yet to begin. If the managers attention to details falters much more they could be serving fewer diners. We really want Surin to stay open ? The food used to be incredible. But to compete they will have to step up the attention. serve what the menu states for starters, and second don't serve used rice for gods sake. Lastly, without fail, every time we have eaten there the meal comes out 5 minutes after the appetizer. That's insane!

If I could give this place negative stars I would. Horrible! We ordered take out - $70 worth and ended up throwing it away. The crab Angels and egg roll were good, but the rest went in the trash. Mushy noodles raw chicken used way too much garlic in the beef ... All in all very poor taste.

Surin of Thailand has to be one of my favorite local restaurants. They have amazing sushi and miso soup. There is a huge menu with plenty of choices for everyone! I have dined here about 2 or 3 times and have no complaints on service. I recommend getting the Thai Noodle dish, it is so tasty!

One of our favorite restaurants!!! Be sure to start with their spicy coconut soup (chicken, shrimp or tofu) and basil rolls or nam sad. Excellent sushi (we love the Kaboom Maki specialty roll), spicy beef salad, Tiger Cry, and Duck! It is a small establishment, but if you go during off hours they space you far enough away from other people and the service is always great! Seating outdoors is always comfortable and heated in the winter. I've been to the Surin's in ATL and B'ham and think the Huntsville location is every bit as good with it's own charm.

I came here with a friend because I had tried Thai for the first time at Lek's in Montgomery. I loved the cuisine so I wanted to sample another type of dish. I got the Warm Chicken Salad because I wanted to try something with a peanut sauce. I thought the peanut sauce was tasty and the chicken was tender but the 'salad' was just big chunks of romaine. The coconut tofu soup was just ok but I liked the soup I had at Lek's much better. The waitress wasn't too friendly and like others said the tables are super close together. I wouldn't be opposed to eating here again but I think there are plenty of other places to eat in Huntsville that beats this chain. I'm definitely no Thai expert but based on my experience at Lek's I know there are better Thai options in Alabama.

The food was a lot better than expected! I gave this place a 3 only bc it was good, clean, we'd come back again and the food was good in comparison to a few other places we've been before. Sometimes it's nice to just be able to get a decent dish that you thought you'd never find in the south like peanut dressing on salad. It's not a 4 on my scale bc I don't envision myself going out of my way like I do for cotton row' fois gras or jamos' grilled chicken entree. I also got the sashimi appetizer which wasn't bad or great- the salmon and tuna pieces were ok, but the hamachi was crunchy/ hard like it was a piece of cucumber. The texture of sashimi (not sure about taste) was better at bridge street). The coconut soup was pretty good. Hope there wasn't too much butter in there. They had this nice patio area in the back too. There were ziplock bags of water hanging around- thought that was kind of weird. My friend said mythbusters did an experiment to show those bags don't work in repelling flies. That being said, in my own unintentional experiment, I was swatting big flies away pretty frequently.

My first adventure in Thai food. Surin is cheap and the food comes in large portions. Loved the chicken fried rice, can't wait to try more from their menu!

This is quite honestly my very favorite restaurant in Huntsville. The food never disappoints and the service is always fantastic. I go to Surin every chance I get. PS...the coconut soup is just about the best thing that has ever been in my mouth.

Loud. I've been there a couple of times for lunch a thought I liked the place. It has always been noisy but tonight however it was an experience I'll not repeat. The nigiri was fresh and good portioned but the lamb was barely more than an appetizer priced like an entry. Service was very good. The clanging plates on wooden tables and the hollow tile floors, however, ruin the atmosphere. Actually there is no atmosphere; it like eating in a crowded airport bar. And a pet peeve... any place that includes a tip on any parties more than x number of people should always get dinged a star... just for that.

I eat here quite often for lunch. It's quick(ish), cheap and good portion. The food is edible and decent as well. The Thai Tea is a bit on the sweet side but it's still good. I love their potstickers and the sauce. Just wish there's more of them. The curry duck is a bit chinsy on the duck but their basil duck is really good. I like their BBQ chicken on the lunch menu (loads of chicken and good fried rice). The curry on chicken masaman is good but don't said with avocado when you only get 2 or 3 thin slices. The wait staff is nice but they're a bit slow (timely) sometime. Oh and I can't believe they charge you $1 for a bit of rice in a to go box. ...Should've asked them for an empty box and put take some white rice from the pot they give to the table... Overall, it's a good place for lunch and the best Thai Tea place in town.

Asian fusion at its best. I've reviewed Surin before and it's still the best.. not just in North Alabama, but nationwide. Seattle, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, LA... all have great Thai restaurants but Surin holds it's own against them. Lunch or dinner, Surin has a great atmosphere. Its decor and sound system combine to drown out conversation from nearby tables. I love whatever digital channel they chose for Muzak. It's not quite jazz and it's not quite trance. But the food! Surin serves the holy grail of egg rolls: thin crisp skins of rice paper over a tasty slaw thankfully devoid of bean sprouts, and served with a sweet, mildly spicy and highly addictive sauce. The only place I've ever had better egg rolls is one place in LA's Thai Town which is either closed or under new management... because they're just average now. Surin's version of yellow curry (often called Masaman) is a fusion of meso-American and Asian. Cashews are substituted for peanuts (yea!) and ripe avocado is added for a uniquely delicious sauce. Surin's version of Tom Kah Gai (chicken coconut soup) is so yummy. You can get it with tofu or chicken, but I doubt the soup (minus the chicken) is vegan because it tastes too good. Lunch entreés are very reasonably priced at $8.00, come with a cup of the soup described above with tofu, and are quite generous. For a romantic dinner share an order of the Shrimp Masaman, a bowl of soup and the egg rolls. Precede this with either Tuna Tataki or an Avocado Tuna roll from the sushi bar. You'll both be pleasantly satisfied. Sadly Surin does not offer Mee Krob on its menu and drink prices are quite high. $10 martinis are the norm. Ask the price before you order anything alcoholic. Hot coffee and tea are also higher than average, and the servers never seem to notice your cup is empty, although they are very good at refilling iced drinks. So to finish your evening, go across the street to the Starbucks for coffee and dessert in some comfy chairs

This is my favorite restaurant in Huntsville. You won't go wrong with anything on the menu. Sushi, Thai dishes....it's all good. The menu is extensive. I've never had anything I didn't like. I'll tell you the more you eat here the harder it gets to decide what you want to order because it is all so good. Try a dirty martini while you are there..,best ever!

Lunch time is a great time to visit Surin. I always get the lunch special for $8 and there is plenty to take home. My favorite is the Thai noodles, but they have several options. Included in the special is a small bowl of coconut tofu soup. The first time I tried it, I wasn't sure about it, but it has this mildly unique flavr that grows on you and now I love it! One of my favorite appetizers are Surin baskets...little bite size tarts filled with savory goodness! If you have room for dessert, the Crème Brule is hard to beat (and it's large enough to share!) This is a very popular lunch time spot, so expect to be amid a lot of folks if that is when you go. The overall ambiance is very classy but comfortable.

Pretty good restaurant. Very good for dates! They also have frequent coupons to use for the restaurant. When I went we had a meal that was buy one get one free. It was a good deal! The food and service were awesome. I would definitely go back!

I heart this place for lunch!I love the chicken or beef larb and the nam-sod. It's consistenly good and very filling!!! A cup of the coconut soup is included with lunch. The covered patio is nice for good weather. Their happy hour looks like a good deal, but I've not tried it. (I only give atmosphere "3" because, at lunchtime it gets really crowded and sometimes you feel a little 'squished' )

So disappointed. This place was recommended to me by several people as the best Thai in Huntsville, and even by the little old Thai lady in the cleaners across the road. The thai, coconut, soup is just nasty. Salty, it had one mushroom in it, cut in half and about 6 micro-cubes of tofu. The chicken massaman was bland, and kind of tasted like the soup. It is a shame, as this kind of food, done well is amazing! I have has this food from street vendors and it is 1000 times better.

  • Adam B.

For the money, probably the best restaurant in Huntsville. I'm a little biased, because I love Asian food, especially Thai. However, I've never ordered anything I didn't love from this place. The menu is also pretty extensive. I have had issues using coupons here with other couples who also had coupons. The restaurant will not take more than 1 coupon per table. I have kind of a big problem with this, because we could be taking up more than 1 table. I've worked in the restaurant business, so I know taking up multiple tables is less profitable, so I think the coupons should not be limited by table. However, I'm not going to lower my rating over it, because this restaurant is just that good!

Surin of Thailand is the best of several good Thai establishments in HSV. The lunch specials are fantastic and the only time you can get some of the dishes like Chicken Noodle Bowl. Sushi here is also very good - the equal to I Heart Sushi on common sushi rolls and probably superior on sashimi. Service is consistent and many servers have been working there for several years. This place excels at lunch, so it can be crowded trying to get in at lunchtime.

We started with a Thai tea and the sweet and spicy calamari. It seemed we got the bulk of the coned tips of the squid. It looked like a plate of Bugles. I was tempted to put five on my finger tips! The sauce seemed like your run-of-the-mill sweet chili sauce that you can get from any grocery store. The Thai tea was good. For our main courses, we ordered the Stir-Fried Pork with Spicy Basil Leaves, Thai Barbecued Chicken and Pad See Ew with chicken. We also ordered one spicy hamachi roll. The pork was tasty with the basil leaves. The barbecued chicken was nice and tender and a large helping. The pad see ew was unremarkable. There was an overabundance of chicken. One person thought that had we ordered a more premium meat (like pork) we would have gotten more noodles and less meat. But the noodles were rubbery. More of anything wouldn't have solved their problem. The spicy hamachi roll was weird. It was a basic negi-hamachi roll with a dollop of siracha sauce on top. I'm fine with heat, but this sauce was so over-powering that I had to scrape off most of it to even taste any fish. The food is pretty decent here. Not great, but acceptable for Huntsville standards. We went at dinner and paid a pretty penny for our meal. I recommend you go at lunch time because the prices are super cheap and you get about the same amount of food. Unfortunately, you get only a third of the menu.

I visit Huntsville annually to visit my parents. They like Surin. We wanted to start with some nigiri but when they said they no longer served eel we decided against the idea. (Hey, cross it off the menu!!) My meal was fabulous; Thai BQ chicken with rice. It was succulant and perfectly cooked. We also ordered the Ka Proud lamb that was over cooked and bland. The Thai veggies with tofu was just ok. The noise level is intolarable and if you have a loud diner next to you, as we did, it is unpleasant as the tables are basically on top of one another. They have a patio but it is really shabby.

  • Zee M.

Food is decent here, but what's missing is...warmth. It seems a very impersonal place. Love the basil rolls, though, but some of the food seems comparatively mild, based on my experiences in other Thai restaurants across the country, and somewhat bland. But I'll go back and try more. Still, the standardized, Americanized feel gets me down. I hear the sushi's good. But it's also Japanese.

Thai food without the Thai flavors? What's the point? Unfortunately, the food wasn't the only issue for me. Surin has been on my must try list since I moved here, as Thai is my favorite cuisine. There's just nothing else that blends flavors together so magnificently as the Thai do. I'd heard good reviews of Surin and my belly was grumbling for a delicious lunch today. The atmosphere was a tad disappointing; the feng shui was way off, and the tile floors made it feel "cold". I opened my paper napkin-wrapped utensils to find a spoon with someone's leftover rice stuck on it, and a dirty fork to go along with it. I ordered from the lunch special menu, which didn't have traditional Thai foods such as pad Thai, drunken noodles, and red and green curries. I selected the spiciest entree; pork with red and green peppers. Two Thai peppers spicy, per the menu. I also order the Thai eggrolls. The lunch specials come with a small bowl of coconut soup. I love Thai coconut soup. I stired it with my replacement spoon and saw the 3 slices of mushrooms were not fresh...disappointing to see they would serve that. I tasted the soup and it was lacking flavor. Thai cuisine is full of flavor, and this had very little. I was worried that Surin tones down their flavors for the American pallette. I noticed that the plate the soup was served on was covered in a film, with fingerprints. I wish I'd noticed that before I ate the soup. Next came the eggrolls and sauce. The 3 little springrolls (they were springrolls) were cut in half. Why? I'm not a child, they're not so large that I can't get one in my mouth, and that makes them cool off too quickly. They also didn't present well being cut. Regardless, I took a bite and was again disappointed. There was too much wrapping, making them tough, and so little filling, making them flavorless. The filling was a little shredded cabbage and carrot - that's it. That sauce that I'd heard people rave about was just duck sauce with 3 red pepper flakes mixed in. Really?! Gosh, how I miss a good Thai restaurant with Thai dipping sauce! The entree was served. The presentation was lovely and the portion generous. The sticky rice was served in a lid-covered pot, which was very nice. Usually I have to ask for more rice, but there was more than enough in the pot. There was lots of pork pieces, but they didn't look so appetizing to me because I don't like any fatty pieces of meat. The sauce and rice, though, are what makes my belly happy, so I dug in. Utterly flavorless - and this is their spiciest entree?? The meat was tasteless; no marinade, salt, pepper, anything. The reddish sauce looked good, but was completely lacking flavor. I couldn't make flavorless Thai if I tried; I don't know how they did it. A couple other service-related notes. One waitress carried bowls of soup past my table, spilling quite a bit onto the floor. She served the customers the bowls, then walked back to the kitchen. I thought she'd get a towel to clean her spill up. Nope. Meanwhile, I watched more customers come in and walked right over that spill; I was waiting for someone to take a fall. Lastly, the wait staff don't support each other. Each has their own tables and won't do a thing to help outside their area. One example: I was out of water and 2 waiters (not mine) carried water pitchers and walked right by me and made eye contact with my empty glass and kept walking. Huntsville has fabulous cuisine; I'm going to keep looking for authentic Thai.

Excellent food! My husband and I had just heard of this place and we arrived 13 minutes before closing, they still welcomed us and gave us outstanding service. If you go ask for Ben as your server and try a sour apple martini. The Cashew Nut is amazing!

The sushi is incredibly 'meh'. I would only recommend it if you're just dying for some raw fish and you are being dragged to Surin by a team of mules (we are in Alabama, right?) Otherwise, get the Chicken Panang and go to the Whitesburg Publix. Trust me.

I really like Surin. I remember I visited a Surin in Birminhgam, AL and was very pleased when I realized a store was opening in Huntsville. I really enjoy the curry vegetables. I have not been really adventurous to try much else since the one time I tried something different and ended up sending it back. Not sure what it was, but the server was not pleased about me returning it. All I know is that I was not going to make it through the other dish, so finally I received my standard curry vegetables as a replacement. The presentation is super. It's a great place to meet friends for lunch.

Good presentation. Ka Proud Lamb was tasty! None of the food was nearly spicy enough.

Good service Average environment I took my step father here for his birthday and I was quite surprised with the varieties of fish and kinds of specialty rolls that they have on the menu here. I didn't have high expectations of this place during my commute, but the sushi was tasty. I read in another review that Surin is a chain, I am unaware if this comment is true or false, as they have no website listed that I see. I doubt Huntsville has the potential for even building a 5* sushi spot. I have nothing memorable from my eating experience here, so don't expect to be overly impressed. Its just good service with good food.

I have so many favorites that it's hard for me to decide what to get every time I go... Chicken Noodle Bowl, Massaman, Panang, Softshell Crab w/ yellow curry, Catfish. Super Crunch and Spider Roll for sushi.

One of my favorite restaurants in Huntsville. The food is consistently good, the atmosphere is nice and the prices are reasonable. My favorite dish is the pad prick pork.Their sushi is also very good.

goood thai..... service good and quick.......they have some different options not usualy found at a thai plave...

Since Surin's is a chain restaurant, the food is consistently good. However, like most of the places in Huntsville, the wait is long, and service takes a while too.

The food is pretty good, especially during lunch, where the price is very fair since most lunch is only 7, and it comes with a soup. I would highly recommend going during lunch hour. Sushi is okay The wait is not bad. Try the spicy beef salad but ask them to crank the spicy down a notch.

Still my favorite place to eat. Yumi Yumi roll, crab angels, and some Thai Tea and I am a happy camper! Lighting is very nice and even though there are many tables close to each other, the sound is great so I don't feel like I am listening to 12 conversations at once!

Surin of Thailand is probably more Ameri-Thai than authentic Thai but it sure is tasty. I have to second Maggie P.'s recommendations of the chicken masaman and the coconut soup. If you're there for lunch try the chicken noodle bowl. It's yummy, but sadly it's only available on the lunch menu. If by some miracle you manage to save room for dessert, the creme brule is excellent. The food is consistently good, but it is definitely not fast food. Eat here when you have time to enjoy a leisurely meal, but not if you're in a rush. Surin of Thailand is a part of the Surin chain. (I've also been to other Surins in Atlanta and Birmingham, AL)

I had dinner here last Sunday with my family. Service was good but the food was a bit disappointing. The pad thai was way too sweet. My grilled lamb chops were over done. The shrimp panang was the only dish that was good because the curry sauce was great and shrimp quality and portion was decent. In general, the portion size of the dishes were good. The taste and value were not.

I'll pass on this all day long when given alternate choices on Thai food in Huntsville. This place is over-priced to a staggering degree. The food is good, which is the only reason I didn't give it 1 star. However you can can get better elsewhere for nearly half the price. The wait staff was nice and knowledgeable, but didn't seem authentic to me. The alcohol was even more over-priced that the food. $10 for a margarita? Who are you kidding? Dishes had so much focus on the presentation that the taste seemed to suffer for it. I'd rather pay $18 dollars for really tasty food than really pretty food. Get the idea? So the carrot is cut to look like a flower. That's nice, but it still tastes like a carrot. Whoever claims this is the best Thai in town simply hasn't been to Charm Thai. Period.

This is probably Huntsville's best Thai. Lunch is better (cheaper, lunch specials are good), but always a good choice for Thai. Good full bar, cocktail specials, there is a sushi too (despite it being a Thai place). Of course if it is sushi you want then you could go to a Japanese place.

  • Wan T.

The food's not bad, but it's overpriced--although I hear there's a two-for-one coupon available in the Huntsville Phone Book. I found it perplexing, however, that the dishes are served entree style rather than family style. At every Thai restaurant I've ever been to, you order a couple of dishes for the table and share--unless it's a lunch special. At Surin, however, there's actually a charge (I think it's $2) for "plate sharing." HUH? You better not be charging me $2 extra if I want to share my entree with my friend. The other weird things are that they serve curry dishes on a plate instead of in a bowl, and they have a sushi bar. Whatever. Guess it works for them.

Food was ok but not great. The Thai noodles we're sweet and overly sauced and the 2 dishes we had lacked taste. The sushi looked good. Ok if your in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there

Outstanding food... thai dishes, stir fry, and sushi! It's all good. My only complaint is that many of the tables inside are too close to each other, so we usually sit on the patio (which is heated and cooled).

    (5)

Good sushi, but not the best place for private conversations

  • D D.

The sushi is incredibly 'meh'. I would only recommend it if you're just dying for some raw fish and you are being dragged to Surin by a team of mules (we are in Alabama, right?) Otherwise, get the Chicken Panang and go to the Whitesburg Publix. Trust me.

  • Jenny Z.

Period.

  • SKD D.

One of the best restaurants in Huntsville of any variety. Go for lunch for an amazing deal.

Not my favorite Thai food. I've spent two months in Thailand, so Im a bit picky. Good cocktails though.

Outstanding food... thai dishes, stir fry, and sushi! It's all good. My only complaint is that many of the tables inside are too close to each other, so we usually sit on the patio (which is heated and cooled).

Still my favorite place to eat. Yumi Yumi roll, crab angels, and some Thai Tea and I am a happy camper! Lighting is very nice and even though there are many tables close to each other, the sound is great so I don't feel like I am listening to 12 conversations at once!

The sushi is incredibly 'meh'. I would only recommend it if you're just dying for some raw fish and you are being dragged to Surin by a team of mules (we are in Alabama, right?) Otherwise, get the Chicken Panang and go to the Whitesburg Publix. Trust me.

  • Celia R.

  • Roaming E.

Food was ok but not great. The Thai noodles we're sweet and overly sauced and the 2 dishes we had lacked taste. The sushi looked good. Ok if your in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there
