Roland's makes me smile. Even though they're a hole in the BP gas station wall they keep their website updated and workspace clean. Right now, they're serving seasonal boiled crawfish by the pound with potatoes and corn and sausage. That's next on my list to try. So far I've had their ribs, pulled pork, and sausage. Everything's tasty and they have decent hours. Stop in next time you fill up or are in that Jordan food corridor at lunchtime!

This place is truly a hidden gem in Hsv! I looked all over North AL for a place that would sell me some live crawfish close to home. I finally found the New Orleans Lunchbox! They were more than happy to take my order and have it ready for pickup Thurs. eve. The price is good for this area and the crawfish were great quality. I only had 6 dead out of 20 lbs. Their wings are also some of the best I've had, very great smoky flavor with a hint of spice. I also had a bowl of the gumbo, very good as well! Be sure to get a praline as well if they have any! -Adam B.

Excellent ribs, brisket, slaw, jambalaya, and wings. Their BBQ trends towards the drier smokier side. I am no expert in Cajun food, but I enjoyed everything I sampled and ordered another round to bring home for lunch the following day. I would definitely return. It is located within a gas station. They have a smoker trailer out back. Expect disposable plates and cutlery. This is somewhere you visit for the food, not the ambiance. Prices generally seemed to fall within the $5 to $15 dollar range.

Great FOOD! Best we've had as far as New Orleans style goes. My husband couldn't speak because he ate so much... We had just about everything from the red beans & rice, buffalo wings, smoked hot dog, jambalya, brisket, and pulled pork! The BREAD PUDDING was amamzing! I had 3 servings. I haven't been able to find a great recipe for bread pudding in 20 years and this one is it! So moist, simple and full of flavor. We drove down from Harvest on a recommendation from a man who works at Kroger. He said they had thee best Roast Beef Po'Boys in town. AND he wasn't lying! Sooooo Ding Dang GOOD!.. Going to make this a regular in our dining out rotation. So happy that we found this place. Great Customer Service from Carrie, nice talking and getting to know the owner & his wife. Great People. We will be back within the week! Thanks again for such a delightful meal! Mike, Bain & Georgia Jayne Peto (Harvest, AL)

Victim of over-hype based on others glowing reviews of New Orleans Lunchbox? I was extremely underwhelmed on my visit on 14 Sep. 2012. Yes, it is in a BP at the corner of Jordan Ln. and Holmes Ave. The best part of the getting my to-go order was the college age young man working the counter, who was really helpful and nice. He even cut short several phone calls on his cell, to show me their various dishes. I was buying for DH, my Mom and myself, so I got the following (b/c crawfish season ended in July-ish and it was unavailable): smoked pulled pork on bun w/small baked beans for me; smoked sausage on bun (the last one he had!) for mom, plus a praline and "New Orleans bread pudding;" and a quart f chicken and sausage jambalaya for DH and my son. Like others, I think the buns need either a good toasting, or to be put on a flat top to get some texture to them. By the time I drove the less than .25 mile to mom's house, the pulled pork sandwich bun had basically turned into a flat, super soggy, bread-mush. I had to remove the pork and cole slaw from the "bun remains" to eat it. The pork had a good smoky flavor, and the cole slaw was nice + an added pickle slice or two. But, usually the nice thing about a sandwich is you eat it with your hands and you hold the bread -- no can do, in this case. NOLA Lunchbox: Get a small toaster oven. The baked beans were unremarkable, they tasted from a can with some diced sweet onion heated up with them. Not bad, but not YUMMY like others in HSV who will incorporate their pork INto the beans. Mom's smoked sausage looked OK, but had the same bun issue as mine. She did enjoy the praline (home made by owners wife) and it was her 1st try at bread pudding, so she couldn't really say much about it. Poor DH barely touched the quart of jambalaya stating that his version is s so much better, and frankly, I was not interested in it. The layout of NOL is confusing, as it is a "deli-style" counter at the back of a standard BP. I've walked in there 100 times and never even noticed it. The NOL area needed sweeping and the paper towels on each tabletop were spotted on some, with ketchup. I was surprised their health rating was somewhere in the 90s. It's basically a college man dishing up food from a buffet layout of previously cooked food. I wish I LOVED this place, because I frequent that area. Maybe it was just an off day.
