I looooove Greek food and I LOOOOVE Cuzina Grill. This is a must have and a necessary stop every time I go to Spartanburg. It's almost becoming the sole reason for my SC visits. The quaint family owned place is full of life and that energy comes from the hilarious owner Effie. The food is always fresh and is consistently tasty. Please go...now!

The hummus will rank as some of the best you've ever had. The salad with its fresh ingredients is delightful. I love the lamb plate, and my wife thoroughly enjoys and brags on the salmon. It is a place where you get to enjoy fresh ingredients prepared by talented cooks instead of a recipe crafted by a corporation and executed by some indifferent worker brought to you by a bored server. And the delightful cherry on top of all of this is the reasonable wine prices, large portions served in huge glasses.

Simply put, I have had no better Greek food than Cuzina's. LOVE the falafel, hummus and tabouleh. Nothing else like this in the Greenville-Spartanburg area. Now, if they'd just start serving lemon-rice soup...

We were on an 85 South road trip and found this place on Yelp and we agree with all the high reviews we read. Husband had a gyro sandwich, which was the perfect mix of wet and dry. I had spanakopita and hummus and it was seriously the best hummus I've ever had. They were also willing to make a kid's portion out of a regular menu item and we really appreciated that. I stole a bite of my child's chicken and it was pretty great. The atmosphere hit a nice casual note where you feel like you could go with friends, or a date, and we enjoyed seeing the owner greet her regulars. We noticed several locals coming in for takeout and liked the energy of the other tables. It's too bad we live nowhere near Spartanburg, or this place would be in regular rotation.

Wow! What an amazing restaurant. First off, I'd like to say that this was my first visit to this restaurant, and from the outside, there isn't much going on. A lot more of the business was happening next door at Willy Tacos. Regardless, when I entered, I was greeted with warm smiles and I chose to sit up against the wall at a two chair table. The decor was pleasant. I ended up starting my meal with the spicy feta after reading other reviews. It was phenomenal! I wish they'd add a few more pieces of pita bread with it though. The pita bread came out warm and the flavor was amazing. After a few refills of my unsweet tea, I went ahead and ordered the lamb gyro, but I also wanted to try their falafels, so I asked my waitress how much extra it would be, and she gave me two to try for free! They were delicious, among the best falafels I have tried at restaurants. This includes Habiba in Greenville and the Israeli cuisine in Asheville. The inside was a hearty green and they were breaded and fried nicely. Although, when time permits, I still prefer making them home made. Next, the lamb gyro. It was awesome. Very tasty, and with a little extra tzatziki sauce that came with the falafels, it couldn't have been any better. All this very delicious, authentic Greek/Mediterranean food for this only ended up costing 18 and some change, and I tipped the waitress heavily for her amazing service. Will be coming back again with more friends soon.

This was a nice find. I've eaten at the restaurant next door a few tomes and saw this and went back. I love Mediterranean food. I got a lamb gyro which was tasty. The lamb was a bit overcooked but the Tzatziki sauce was great. I then ordered some hummus and tabouli to try. The hummus was very good. The tabouli was ok. It was missing the bulgar but still had a decent flavor. Definitely not the worse I have ever eaten. The staff was very friendly and was very attentive to what we needed. All in all I will be back for lunch soon.

Five, five, FIVE stars! Food was SO good! I'm actually still eating as I write b/c I couldn't wait to review it. Wife and I shared the app sampler and had lamb gyros; everything was amazing! Driving to Bryson City on a road trip and took a detour; so glad we did, eat here!

  • Spartan P.

Fantastic everything...We just order appetizers for take out lunch. For first timers I recommend the sampler. But everything is good. Small interior, but staff is always prompt and courteous. Never had a bad meal.

If you are looking for a delicious meal, filling and fresh, this is it! The chef and his staff, the owners are marvelous. There are no microwaves, and everything is prepared when ordered. We have had everything off the menu, and then some. Nothing disappoints. The bar is not extensive, but you won't be disappointed in the wine and beer selections. Dessert is worth saving room for. If you had to choose, try the Greek ribs (if there are any left), the Greek bean soup (grandma's recipe, which goes quick too), the souvlaki, and if you can get him to make some, the falafel. Oh, who am I kidding? Just go often enough to have everything at least once!

I don't know what the yelpers that gave this place a high rating are smoking, but this place is disgusting! I don't know what that lady is playing at but that is not authentic Greek food. My family is of Greek origin and ever since I was little, I have had an appreciation for Greek cuisine. My husband, my daughter and myself stopped by for a quick lunch since everyone on Yelp gave this place such high ratings. The owner greeted us but was very robotic and I noticed while we were sitting there that she stares at the customers like a dictator...Kinda like she suspects you are doing something wrong. We ordered the falafel and when it came to us, it was rock hard and uniform in size. No seasoning what so ever. You can tell they were frozen because even the inside was powder dry and lacked seasoning. Even my five year old turned it down and she loves the falafel I make at home! We just left it on the plate. It took me drinking a whole glass of coke to choke it down and even after leaving the restaurant, my mouth was super dry. We all ordered gyros. Now where I'm from, a gyro consists of several meats ground up and put on a spit to cook and then the meat is sliced to order. All I can say is, you have got to be kidding me. The meat was OBVIOUSLY frozen and just cooked on a flat top. It was dry and lacked flavor and the fries that came with it were not seasoned at all. They had a little sprinkle of cheese and a dried herb on them, but they were really bad. Not even ketchup could save them. After we all picked at the food, I took my daughter to the bathroom. MY KID FELL IN THE TOILET BECAUSE THE TOILET SEAT WAS JUST STRATEGICALLY PLACED ON THE TOILET! You can't tell me that the owner had no idea of the state it was in because there was a book as well as beauty products and a box of tampons on the shelf beside the toilet! UNACCEPTABLE!!! The toilet wasn't even clean!! The seat fell off and I rushed my kid out of the bathroom and out the door to the car. My husband paid and as I passed by the kitchen area, I glanced in and knew it was as bad as I thought. Nothing back there but a bunch of Latinos slinging frozen crap on a grill... If you are elderly or don't mind frozen food, then this place is for you.

Excellent. Started with the saganaki, very good My kids and I had chicken souvlaki and beef souvlaki both were great. My wife order the hummus and falafel plate. I had some it was very good. We saw Greek salads leaving the kitchen that were huge and looked very appetizing. Definitely check it out. We will be back.

Their hummus is the best I've ever had. Hands down. I go there just for their hummus. That being said, what I have tried of their other food options have all been good. Falafel, gyros, salads, all good. A little pricey - but worth it considering it's some of the best Greek food in Spartanburg. The staff is a little odd though. They seem to be short staffed sometimes and they also seem to be kind of snobbish.

The chicken gyro was tremendous, reasonably priced and came out very quickly on a Friday night. The accompanying French fries were the kind of thing you write home about, if you like to write home about meals you eat out in Spartanburg, SC. The outside tables are a little too close together, but hey, space is limited in this strip mall. The water is very cold and came with plenty of ice.

This place is amazing! The first time we went, we had a large crowd of around 10. They told us not to worry about ordering- they'd do family style. The food was out of this world delicious! We were sooo stuffed when we left and had food to spare. It was pricey though! The 2nd time we went, I saw that they had some more seating outdoors. It was my brother's bday, so I brought a cake. My picky eater 4 year old won't eat anything there except the pita bread and they had no issues with us bringing in a happy meal for her. They kept the cake in the fridge until we were ready for it. Then they all gathered and brought it out. The whole entire restaurant was singing! That's how much of a family feel it has to it. If you want to be a part of an awesome Greek family for a couple of hours, go here!

My husband and I were traveling in the area and stopped in because of the reviews on Yelp. We had salads and chicken gyro sandwiches. Oh my gosh it was a delicious meal. You know it's great cooking when simple dishes really stand out. If I lived in the area I would eat here all the time.

This place was a great find. The service was kind and efficient, they made you feel very much at home. I could see why they have such a base of regulars and they also seemed to do a lot of take-out business as well. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, very much mom & pop, and the food was amazing. My friend and I tried a variety of items and they were all tasty and fresh. The hummus and pita bread was warm and delicious (a little too much paprika on top though). The fries weren't seasoned as much as expected, but were still delicious. The beef and lamb skewers were cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. The lamb gyro (one of my all time favorite meals) was right on par with gyros I've gotten in NY, Chicago and the west coast. It was perfection. We also tried the falafel seeing there was a mix of reviews, but they were not "frozen and uniform" they were seasoned well and moist all the way through. I will definitely be trying this place out again.

If you are ever in Spartanburg and want a break from the chain restaurants, this is a nice cozy greek place that is run by a delightful family. The spicy feta humus is a great starter!

Strip mall ambiance is offset by authentically delicious food. Steak skewer with the village salad is so good I've not managed to try much of the rest of the menu.

Drove 10 miles out of our way to eat lunch here. Well worth it. Authentic food. Great prices. Spanikopita is flaky and creamy. Athenian salad to die for. Meats were so-so. French fries were great. Skip the choc cake calories and go for the baklava.

Since moving to the West coast, I miss getting my Cuzina fix...I still dream about their hummus and spicy feta! This place is seriously incredible, from the inviting/laid back atmosphere, to the great beer menu, and the incredible food. Their chicken slouvaki so tender and flavorful, the duck fat fries are YUM, and that hummus...I have no words! One of my last meals before moving to CA was my beloved Cuzina's, I crave it regularly, and I can't wait to visit in October to get my fix!

The food was amazing!! Everything is home made, fresh and seasoned to perfection. This is the best Mediterranean/middle eastern food I've had in the states. Treat yourself to an appetizer platter to taste all the salads. Don't miss out on the grape leaves. Oh, and did I mention they use home grown olive oil. We will be driving out of our way to go there again.

I came here today by myself around 3pm and sat at the bar table. The server/owner welcomed me nicely. I ordered a lemonade, lamb gyro ($8.99), side of hummus ($0.99), shredded baklavah, and the other dessert covered in powdered sugar (not sure what it is called). The gyro was really good- the cucumber sauce was yummy. The gyro was the perfect size - a lot of times when I get gyros, there is way too much lamb in it that I have to eat the lamb with a fork first so that the pita can fold nicely as a sandwich. This gyro was not as messy since the pita could close like a sandwich. The fries were delicious, they were seasoned well with parmasean and black pepper. The hummus was outstanding... possibly the best hummus I'd ever had. The owner said it was made fresh every morning and showed me the raw ingredients (chick peas I think?). The owner asked if I wanted the normal baklavah or the shredded baklavah. I asked her which one was more popular and she said she preferred the shredded, so I tried the shredded. She asked me how it was and I said it was good but that I like the normal better. So she gave me a free baklavah! That was very kind of her. She said she opened this business a year and a half ago after she "lost her job as a full time mom" since her kids moved out. I though that was a clever way to phrase it. If you're craving greek, definitely stop by this gem!

Excellent food and the price is just right. They do a great job of giving you just enough food. Not too much like a lot of these resturants do aruond here. This place is new and so far they are doing everything right. The people are friendly and the service is prefect. I hope nothing but the best for these guys. I look forward to seeing them grow.

Best Greek food I have ever had in the states! Real Greek owners! Fries and gyro are AMAZING! The staff is great! The service is timely! I have eaten both dine-in and carry-out and have been impressed with both! You can't go wrong here! Hummus and pitas were also good.

excellent, authentic greek food. reasonably priced, and good hostess. We will come back here. their Tzaziki sauce was more garlicky than I am used to but I like garlic, so not an issue.

My wife and I love Greek food. This was a huge disappointment. We had the stuffed grape leaves for an appetizer, they came sitting in a pool lemon sauce. For our dinner we ordered the lamb and chicken gyro plates. We both substituted an athenian salad for the fries. Both of our salads were soggy as if they were sitting in a bowl of Greek dressing since this morning. Our salads had hardly any feta cheese, and don't be fooled by the kalamata olives...we both had 1 single olive. My lamb was the cheapest, most disgusting piece of lamb I've ever tasted. My wife's chicken was dry and bland. The portion of pita with are meal was as if they had some left over from the hummus appetizer. 3 very tiny triangles. The tzatziki sauce was about the only thing decent on our plates. If your looking for good size portions of fresh, authentic Greek food, this isn't your place. Save your money. S.K.

Good food, but a little pricey. Maybe add Shawarma and make the Greek lamb plate with rice, salad, hummus for the same price as you find at other Greek locations. I guess for a small town this is OK, but if they would make a few changes they would have the number of guests as their neighbor Willy Taco.

Iama Critic Rating - Cuzina Grill - 3 Stars 910 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC Overall: Cuzina is a small and intimate restaurant. Due to the small size, every table has a view of the open kitchen, the owner, chef, waitress and every single customer. This can hinder your dining experience if it is less than satisfactory because who wants to risk making a scene in such a small restaurant? In our never ending search for the best Upstate gyro my guest critic and I decided to make the sixty mile round trip to Cuzina Grill. But sadly we found very stingy portions and quality that didn't jive well with the bill. It was obvious from our first appetizer that our experience was not going to be the same as so many others have received? Regardless of the reason, three stars were barely earned, because when the quality of the fodder fails to be worthy of the price, stars start to fall. The Service - 3 Stars (15%) Our waitress was attentive, but not very sociable or helpful. She served food to our table, such as the overcooked falafel and the ridiculous soup that she should have rejected. However, because you pay at the register, right in front of your waitress, we felt pressured to leave a tip well above the service we received. We ended up leaving a 20%, $8 tip which was overly generous. We typically provide 20% or more for 5 star service on the pre-tax portion of the bill, 18% for 4, 15% for 3, 12% for 2 and 0% for 1 star service. The Food: $4.99 Falafel - 2 Stars These balls of chick peas seasoned with parsley and onion were seriously over fried. They were very dry and the flavor of the very crunchy, overcooked crust overwhelmed the mild flavor of the chick peas. $4.99 Spanakopita - 3 Stars These delightfully light and crispy "pies" with spinach and feta cheese were wonderful. However they were also very small, with each "pie" offering little more than a taste. This appetizer loses a star for lack of value. $4.99 Fasolada - 1 Star Without a doubt the most ridiculous soup I have ever purchased. The presentation is certainly nice and the aroma is perfect. But the bowl is literally a quarter inch deep. There is not enough soup in the bowl to actually drown a gnat! So for five bucks I received EXACTLY eighteen teaspoons (3 ounces) of soup! That is barely enough to even discern the flavor and at $.60 an ounce the price is outrageous. As far as I could tell the soup was mediocre, but frankly I was too angry about the ridiculous portion size to care about whether or not the soup was worth eating. $8.99 Lamb Gyro Sandwich - 3 Stars This gyro comes with some decent seasoned fries which is rapidly becoming the norm. The gyro itself was better than average but the meat appeared to be a mix of Kronos style preprocessed meat slices and the thick, irregular, hand cut meat you expect on a good gyro. However, this mixing of meats left the very thin Kronos style meat over-cooked, while the thicker, irregular cut meat was perfect. I have never seen this mixing of meats before. Cuzina should purchase their meat in one style or the other so that they can cook the portion properly. $12.99 Lamb Platter - 3 stars My lamb platter came with a wonderful Greek salad, and a small portion of a pita with some tzatziki sauce. A week ago I would have said this was the best tzatziki ever, but it is still some of the best. The tiny pita chips are useless. Why Cuzina cuts up a perfectly good pita and only gives you a few pieces for an expensive patter is beyond me. I was hoping to make a gyro out of my ten ounces of lamb, but I could not, what a shame. However, the Greek salad is very nice, exactly what you expect. Total Bill: $51.99 for two adults including tax, an overgenerous tip and two soda fountain drinks. Final Thought: With so many five star ratings it is obvious that Cuzina should have been much better than it was on the night we visited. But that would require Cuzina to stop being so stingy. Provide a whole pita, not a few pita chips. Actually put some soup in the soup bowl. Don't over fry the falafel. Give us more than just a taste of your spinach pie. And for goodness sake, use only one style of lamb meat in your gyro. It just the classic case of: If you are going to charge for quality, you have to deliver quality. Most telling of all: As my guest critic and I left Cuzina feeling rather dejected and hungry, neither of us wanted to drive all the way home after an unsatisfactory experience, so we decided to do a "Bang Bang", and immediately drove to the Beacon Drive In, where I ordered a JC Pounder that weighed three pounds, which by the way is only $0.27 an ounce.
