Ok folks, when we decided to cross the bridge from Newport, where we live in the Summer, we read the yelp reviews prior to leaving. We love Jamestown, and the farm to table concept here intrigued us. Unfortunately, we were not expecting much after reading all of the yelp reviews. We were pleasantly surprised with the food. I would rate the food seven out of ten. We were not impressed with the service, and I would rate that a four out of ten, albeit our server really tried. The timing of the kitchen was off horrribly, and we waited for salads twenty minutes after we devoured our cheese platter. The waiter came and asked my husband how he wanted his sirloin cooked, when he had ordered lamb chops. When we laughed and said, "lets try this again......" an actual sirloin and a seafood stew came out, to our table, fifteen minutes later. (i had ordered crab cakes) We rolled our eyes, laughed, and our correct meals came out ten minutes later. We asked for a few things from our waiter, who never followed up. Again, he tried, but he just wasn't on the ball. My husband liked it enough to go back. We had the cheese plate, (terrific), two salads, an entree, and an appetizer, along with a couple glasses of wine, and the bill came to 170.00 with tip. We sat on the deck, overlooking the bridge and the water, and it was lovely. They have multiple interior rooms, with a nice nautical feel, so if you do not want to sit outside, there are plenty of interior options. Bottom line: not five star dining, especially in the service department, but the food was a pleasant surprise. We wish them luck.

Where to begin? Kids at the (otherwise empty bar) watching TV with restaurant staff. FLIES all over the indoor bar! Bartender intermittently attendant between texting, working on closing tasks (even though it was only 7:30 in the evening) and chatting with other staff. Oh but wait, it's about the food right? The surf turf arrived with gray skirt steak cut to accentuate it grainy texture, refriderator cold corn and seriously unremarkable chopped veggies. The one saving part of the plate were the cod fritters. The Statler chicken was not cooked on the wing end. No offer was made to take anything off the bill.

Although this is one of the most beautiful restaurants in RI, it has struggled for years to find the right owner. Alas the new management again fails to deliver. We have been there three times since it opened and each time has been worse than the last. At least we got food the first two times (small portions but fairly tasty). This time we waited for some one to take our drink order, waited again for someone to take our food order, then waited for food that never arrived. After about an hour we gave up. The manager apologized, offered our meal for free and proceeded to throw the poor waitress under the bus. Yes it seems she made a mistake but there were three other people wandering in and out who should have seen that something was wrong. I blame the management for once again not staffing the dinning room properly. We left and went up the street to Chopmist Charlies where it isn't fancy but always consistent and great service.

We are from New York City and this restaurant is sub par. The food is mediocre at best and while the setting is not nice it is not worth the trip over from Newport. Save your time and money

This place is now closed. It was decent when open but it closed in 2014. There is no restaurant there now.

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The server was fantastic, but the food was not. The bread they brought to the table was a couple days old that they heated in the attempt to save it which didn't happen. We started out with the naan flatbread appetizer which tasted like a frozen meal. My husband had the monkfish which was extremely dry and tasteless. I ordered the surf and turf which needed a lot of work. First of all, my steak was under cooked which the server recognized after he had taken my finished plate. I didn't want to complain as I knew it wouldn't get better than what I had. There was not much lobster and the 5 small potatoes were either over cooked or under cooked. Worst of all was the corn on the cob that left an awful taste in your mouth. Very disappointing. And if you like good wine, this is definitely not your place. Below average to average bottles for an above average cost.

Ugh, evidently there is a catering division of this restaurant, you can tell by the service. There is a skill to waiting tables that you don't learn slinging plates for a catering company. That being said, the food was ok, server was ambitious, helpful, sweet, but not good. To spend upwards of 200. I expected so much more. Great views, but views are a dime a dozen in Newport. Crossing the bridge for sub par dining won't happen again.

I want to give Plantation on The Bay 5 stars but the food is just ok. The staff is the best part of this restaurant. They used to have a nice menu before they switched it and took away anything that was halfway good. The portions are very small, and as others have said, the meats and fish are not cooked as they should be. The bread is non existent, you have to ask for it, and what you get is absurdly bad. Beautiful location totally negated by the fact they are not open for lunch or during the day. Oh and the easter brunch at this place was really really upsetting. The outrageous price didn't even include deserts or coffee. I've never been to a buffet that doesn't serve a desert table or a coffee stand. The omelets station was not well equipped, slow and the spreads were small, poor quality, and just disappointing.

Really good food, nice portions, and an exceptionally nice and competent waitress (we've had her both times we've gone). The view is very pretty and the decor pleasant. The only negative is the huge TV behind the bar that points partially at the dining room. It ruins the ambiance and can be distracting if you are seated facing or partially facing the television.

Good but not incredible. No need to run over and check out this new restaurant yet. They are still working out some of the kinks - like getting in some sparkling water and getting rid of the worst items (over-salted onion soup without the bread or cheese of French onion soup). Our section of the dining room was hot and noisy. The restaurant says it is "farm to table" - our main courses were tasty but lacking in the details that usually make "farm to table" special. The lobster Mac & cheese had a great consistency but not much lobster. And do not be misled by the "hot fudge sundae with Belgian chocolate." It was vanilla ice cream in a bowl with what looked like Hershey's syrup on top - plus a little whipped cream and HALF a maraschino cherry. Are they economizing on the dishes or what?

Delish! Have been there 4 times and each time the food and martinis have been just as good. We have had the butternut squash and apple bisque, Cod loin and the best Bolgenese ever! Can't wait for them to start serving lunch!

I really wanted to like this place. The room is lovely and the view is great. Years ago it was a fine restaurant, then it fell on hard times. The latest operator is a caterer, and that was the problem as I look back on the meal. I guess I was expecting more. It seemed like a catered wedding dinner ... good, well cooked, but nothing exceptional. They really play it safe and the cost it very low (perhaps too low, dinner for 2 and a bottle of wine for $30 is really cutting it thin). Most things (all?) require no chef's hand and do not require last minute cooking. The biggest drawback for me was the total lack of flavor building sauces to liven up the food. The staff is young and tries to help but they seem to bump into each other. Again, they seem to be serving at a wedding. They have been open a couple of months so they SHOULD have worked out the bugs. Will I go back? Probably, but just for something quick and fast. This is simply not a fine dinning experience and given the location, that is a shame. By the way, unless you want Mexican, avoid Wednesdays!
