After years of debating our favorites in Newport, we thought we'd give Fish in Jamestown a try only because they sponsor the sail boat of a friend. We were hoping it would just be decent fresh fish. We were unprepared for the whole experience, we were blown away at how good it was! My wife asked for her favorite (somewhat obscure) single malt scotch, the server brought the bottle out to confirm. Wow. She started with a roasted red pepper & mozzarella app, I had a wonderful salumi variety app. She had an herb crusted ahi tuna, I had the best halibut I've ever had (halibut has nice texture but not a lot of flavor on it's own, so saucing is crucial). We had a nice Pinot Noir with dinner. She finished with choc pot du creme with espresso gelato on the side and I had a lemon polenta cake with a double espresso. Excellent food, beautifully presented. Our server was delightful, knowledgeable. And the atmosphere was charming, spotless with a simple updated elegance. So we found the place somewhat by accident, but we'll be back. We've eaten at all the best restaurants in Newport over the past 20 years, but Fish is our new favorite in the area - hands down.

I live in Jamestown and watched the elaborate renovation of the previous restaurant with anticipation. The publicity promised a fantastic destination restaurant. When it finally opened, I was greatly disappointed. I knew the price would be upscale, but expected the food to be worth it. It wasn't. The food was just average. And the portions small, something I can never understand at an expensive restaurant. As I drive home from work though, I notice it is always just about full inside. I guess I'll have to give it one more try.

These reviews have got to be kidding! The staff was very friendly, accommodating and attentive, but the food was mediocre and very over priced. My wife had the cod which was ok but not what I would have expected in an area known for fresh fish. Coating was a little too thick and greasy, and the fries were covered in cayenne powder which was not mentioned on the menu. I had the fluke. The breading was very grainy and tasted like sand. The fish was fried too tight, Oh BTW we had baked clams for an appetizer, which you could tell were fresh but small and again, the breading was coarse like sand. Not your typical baked stuffed clams. Portions were small and the prices were way too high for the quality and quantity of food. The bill for the two of us was over $80 without drinks. I would recommend you drive through Jamestown without stopping as there does not appear to be any place to eat that is worth the money or time. I will certainly not vist there again when there are far better places to see and dine in RI.

My husband and I wanted to enjoy a casual night out in Jamestown and decided to stop by. We were unimpressed by the lack of cleanliness and decor as we were sat by the windows. My husband ordered a bowl of soup which was lackluster and overpriced. I ordered a simple salmon fillet over Ceasar salad. My salmon was undercooked so I sent it back and after waiting a lengthly time they brought it back only to my dismay. They have stuck it in the microwave and it was extremely hot and rubbery. When I asked the waitress if they had nuked it she denied it and when I expressed my lack of satisfaction she didn't even say sorry. I should've been comped for such a bad meal. I left my plate basically full!

Very OVERPRICED. We went there last night had drinks and were promised $25. Per person appetizers. They came out with 15 plates of appetizers and charged us $250.00 . The bar tender charged $11 for a small glass of wine and then gave change from a$20 $2.00 for change. This happened twice as far as I know. I will never go back...

Pretty good but NOT a Wow! A nice transformation of the space that used to be Trisha's Caribbean Grill. Serving staff was top notch. Our meal was very good, ingredients were fresh, meal was generally tasty but lacked the panache to make this a truly great dining experience. Loved that the Exec Chef took the time to table hop and chit-chat with the guests. Maybe the development of a signature dish would serve to anchor the menu which changes daily to assure the freshest seafood and ingredients (a plus). Portion sizes were fine. Prices are generally what you'd expect at an upscale restaurant. Really hope this place can develop a real persona and give the Jamestown dining scene a seafood dining alternative.

A wonderful little restaurant in Jamestown. As the name suggests, Fish is focused on seafood and they do it well. The sides and appetizers are all super fresh and inventive. Service was warm, attentive and the atmosphere in the casual-chic dining room was tranquil. I have to mention the dessert -- just simple scoops of ice cream made moments before in the kitchen. A perfect finish to a great meal.

I hate this, a new restaurant opens and they spend a ton of money on the decor and no attention on the food. The outdoor patio is beautiful and the dinning room is gorgeous. The menu lack creativity and food tasted plain. I had the Lobster roll and the lobster was chewy and have no flavor and to top it off it was served on a brioche bun which should have been a good thing. The bun was flat in flavor, I would have preferred a bread that had a better texture. Others at the table had the Fish and chips, the RI Mussels and the Clams and oysters. Nothing was bad but nothing was great. I love "downtown" Jamestown and this place looks like a winner, if they improve the food (i.e. taste and portion size) they will get a good following.

Dog Friendly patio. Decided to cross the bridge and visit Jamestown. Had the pup with us as we heard it was fairly friendly towards dogs. Sure enough Fish didnt have a problem with us eating outside. So we settled down and had a nice lunch. My fish and chips was good, not greasy and a good serving size. The wife had the burger because she still cant do fish, but it as very good. Both where what most Americans would consider to be 'small' servings, which was fine with us. You dont have to eat until you are bursting, but I wish the price would have reflected the size of the meal a little better. But then again it is a block away from the water, so it is to be expected.

Oh, the TUNA! Mmmm.... The ambiance, the service, the everything - awesome! Mmm....TUNA..... My table had the salads, salumi platter, scallops, and roasted pepper plate. All were awesome. The salumi plate looked more 'clean cut' than I am used to, but it was still tasty. Oh! But the tuna. Did I mention the tuna? So so good. Not your average tuna steak. A vegetarian at our table ate a whole plate. Yes, it was that good! The ice cream, while delicious, didnt knock this gals socks off. I would have preferred flavors that showcased fresh berries or fruits. Potato/potato. Go! Enjoy! Get the tuna!!

I went to Fish for a second time and I have to say that that the fries are awesome. I never eat fries but here they are soooo good. I would agree that it is a little pricey, but having a couple drinks on a nice warm day out on the patio is pretty nice.

Came here with my girlfriend for Newport Restaurant week and was not disappointed at all. We made last minute reservations on a Friday night and was able to get the time slot that we wanted too. Once we got there we were promptly seated in their relatively small, cozy dining area. There was a roaring fire going and luckily we were not seated next to it since it would have been way too hot. For the restaurant Prix Fixe meal, my girlfriend started with mache salad over grilled spicy scallops with tomatoes. I had the local sardines in Venetian style. Both very good. As for the entree, I had the Monk fish and my girlfriend dined on the linguine with clams. My Monk fish was firm and fresh. Also not even a hint of fishiness. If you know what a Monk fish looks..or maybe you don't want to know what it looks like. Just eat it! My girl's linguine and clams was full of meaty clams and linguine was soft and tender. For desert, my girlfriend had a baked Bosc pear soaked in red wine. They cooled it down before serving it and it was actually had a good balance of tart from the wine and sweetness from the pear. I had the Guinness chocolate cupcake. It was dark, rich and chocolaty. Service was excellent and the waitress even came by and scooped up the crumbs on the table left by me with a metal scooper! I think I subconsciously leave some crumbs on the table just to see if they do that :) I would come back to maybe try out some of their seasonal entrees. It is worth the view and atmosphere.

We are real foodies and love it here. From the gorgeous dining room to the charming outdoor patio, this place is relaxing yet elegant. We had several dinners here last summer and loved it, but this year is even better. The chef is out and about asking about your experience, and the food is AMAZING. Try the eggplan or Maine crab appetizer, then the tuna.....or the special fish pot ith lobster, scallops, clams, mussels. Don't miss the homemade ice cream for dessert. It's expensive, but worth every penny. Also, our server was one of the best I've ever had--humor, attention, knowlege and experience. Better food than Al Forno or many of the restaurants in Providence (except maybe Avenue N)... far better than anything in EG or South County (except maybe Matunuck Oyster Bar--but different types of venues). Worth the drive from anywhere.....

Sooooooo disappointed. We have a summer home in Newport, and have been to Fish any number of times, and truly enjoyed our meals and recommended the restaurant to friends. Today we took a friend for brunch, expecting another great meal. But when I asked that my omelette be made with just egg whites, I was told that the Chef could not (would not?) make it that way. This despite the fact that there was another egg dish on the menu advertised as being made with egg whites, and the menu also indicated that they use RI eggs, which as far as I know have both whites and yolks. For a restaurant whose Chef purportedly cares enough about his customers' experience that he walks around the dining room, this was sorely disappointing. And then my second choice, a hamburger ordered medium rare, arrived medium well ( and, therefore, pretty dry and tasteless). In a world where so many people have food allergies and intolerances, a Chef's unwillingness to accommodate a simple request is both surprising and unusual, and I will think twice before I go back to Fish.

So happy when I found out I could sit at comfy couches in front of outdoor fire pit and get served drinks and food! Perfect relaxed atmosphere for a gorgeous summer day in Jamestown. The homemade cocktail sauce was so good on their shrimp appetizer that we slathered it over the baked clams too. One friend I was dining with said he would eat it like a soup if he could. Pizza also tasty - thin crust and fresh ingredients. Lacking salt and pepper but I like to apply my own amount anyway. The only regret is of my friends who ordered the underwhelming wings. From the description you would think they packed a whole lot more punch. But, when at a place named "Fish" one should probably stick to their namesake when ordering. Will definitely go for the fish special next time. Oh! And I will most definitely be trying to remake their tequila drink at home. I haven't had a twist on margarita that delectable since Mexico. I wish I could take a pitcher home with me!

The meal, atmosphere and service I experienced recently at Jamestown Fish was nothing short of perfection! My experience started by enjoying an excellent glass of house white wine and listening to a great singer/guitarist outdoors on Fish's beautiful patio. After a brief wait for my table, I went inside to enjoy my meal. My appetizer was a sashimi trio that included salmon, tuna, and white fish with fresh avocado slices and a nice green salsa accompanying it. This allowed me to taste Fish's fresh selections in their most basic form and they were among the best I've had! For my main course I decided on the scallops which were served on a bed of superbly spiced vegetables including turnips, kale, and leaks ( The chefs, who were nice enough to meet me and hear my praise after the meal, have such attention to detail with the specific veggies, spices, pairings etc.) I am from the midwest but love great seafood. These scallops for their freshness, preparation and presentation were the BEST I have had the pleasure of eating! The chef told me that Fish gets shipments of the finest quality seafood daily so you are insured that your selection from the constantly evolving menu is the best that is available that day. After the meal, I ordered decaf coffee which was robust and flavorful. Fish prides itself on world class, homemade ice cream. They change the flavors often and are constantly coming up with new selections. I ordered a trio of ice cream that included Chocolate/Banana, Pistachio and Espresso. Again the attention to detail of the ingredients made this such an amazing taste experience! The pistachios were very special I was told and they sold me on a flavor that is usually not my favorite. The other two flavors were on par with the best gelato I have eaten in Venice, Italy. With excellent service, selection, and atmosphere, I will surly be returning to Jamestown Fish! All the best!

We went here for the first time last night and had a very enjoyable experience. The place is beautiful. They spared no expense. The service is spot-on, though a bit stuffy. Cocktails were excellent and the eggplant appetizer was fantastic. Arugula salad was good. I ordered the one vegetarian entree and asked the waiter if they could make it a certain way. He went back to the chef and they were both most accommodating. The result was exquisite. So why 4 stars and not 5? The dining room is too sterile. They need some points of visual interest to break it up. And the lighting is not right. Too bright. So if they can remedy these and reduce the stuffiness a tad, I'd give it 5 stars. I'll be back. My friend reminded me of part of the stuffiness. Here's a quote from one of the entrees on the menu "Try it without Cheese please." Are you kidding? Can you say "pompous" ? Well, if you like pompous, this is your place. This should really be removed - or at least rephrased - IMMEDIATELY.

Jamestown Fish had a slow start, but it has really kicked it up a notch! The seafood is incredible and the decor is beautiful. Over the summer sitting out on their deck is completely charming. Too funny that the same people own the Ganny across the street....

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Great decor and ambiance. Excellent, knowledgeable and friendly service. Best if all the seafood is amazing. Fresh and gourmet prepared. The tuna and halibut are highly recommended. Wonderful non-traditional Caesar salad. The oysters were out if this world. Loved the wine list and helpful sommelier. This is not 'cheap eats' but well worth every penny. Best restaurant experience of the summer!

Lets see, where do I start. Very high noise level, extremrely poor service (45 minute wait WITH a reservation), tiny bar is upstairs and food that was less stan outstanding ... especially when you learn the chef is one of the owners!. Soup was good but avoid the scallops. Oh, you should also know that FISH it is VERY expensive. Good points ... nice wine.

We dinned at Jamestown Fish last friday night, and can't stop thinking about how wonderful our dinning experience was. The menu was brilliantly done and it sure did please our crowd with many options. We were also very impressed by their extensive wine list. My daughter and I have a serve nut allergy and it's always a huge concern of ours when it comes to dinning out. Our waitress was attentive, and made it possible for us to speak with the chefs who immediately eased our fears. We started with a summer tomato salad with their homemade mozzarella My husband ordered the Dover Sole, and it was by far the best we ever had in our travels. My daughter and I had the LINGUINE & CLAMS-every bite was mouth watering, We enjoyed ourselves so much that we came back on Sunday for a lighter fare, and sat outside by the patio. Our waiter greeted us warmly, and after he seated our group he returned with a water bowl for our cavalier I felt as if I was living in Europe again. We order pizza and again enjoyed every morsel. I almost forgot about the desserts...oh so yummy( we tried almost one of each). Finally, the Newport area has an outstanding seafood restaurant.

Great concept - fresh food, no freezers, etc but service was slow (party of 8 at 530pm on a Wednesday). Verbena mojito was nasty. Regular mojito was great. Friend had their signature seafood dish - big trough of seafood - which he liked. My schrod was fine but bland despite description. Salads were great (arugula and tomato-mozzarella). My 9 year old still talks about the grilled king salmon she had.

My husband and I ate at Jamestown Fish twice while in Jamestown. First, for lunch seated outside. I had lobster salad over arugala and it was quite tasty. My husband had the lobster roll and though delicious, was smaller than others we had in the area. We returned for dinner our last night in Jamestown and sat inside as it had been raining that day. It was really nice and more upscale inside. We shared the lettuce and gorgonzola salad, which they kindly split for us. It was delicious, light and fresh. My husband had the linguini and clam sauce and I had fish (can't remember the name - it was a local fish that I hadn't heard of before). We both enjoyed our meals. On to dessert! The pot of chocolate was out of this world!! And they make homemade ice cream! I had mint chocolate chip. It tasted like fresh mint! So refreshing. All in all a great experience with attentive service. Would go back.

I was very disappointed with Jamestown Fish, at least with the patio experience. Sitting at a table near the bar, the bartender was in charge of the service for that area which made service spotty due to the drink demands from both customers and servers. Also the only way the bartender could serve tables was to exit the bar from the rear and walk all the way around a very long bar - very inconvenient for the staff. But I had come for the food, and in reading the mostly positive reviews, I assumed that the quality would carry over to a New England summer staple, the lobster roll. And the lobster was tasty, blended with spices in a unique way. However, it was gone in 2 bites - I'm doubtful there was 2 tablespoons of filling in the roll! It was all in the center, and if you tried to stretch it out to cover the whole bun it would have been a thin paste. And unless "brioche" stands for "hot dog" in French, my barely toasted, dry bun was not as advertised. I have never seen such a small portion in a lobster roll in my life, and at $19, I didn't have what I would consider a reasonable appetizer portion.

I ate at Jamestown Fish last night. It was restaurant week and they really showcased their incredible restaurant. I started with the Jamestown fish stew; outstanding. My husband had the roasted red pepper, prociutto, morzarella appetizer; generous portion and wonderful. Our main course was the skate and monkfish dinners. The flavors were very good, and the vegetable were steamed perfect. Next was dessert. The ice cream is homemade and out of this world. The Java Chip was the best coffee flavored ice cream with bits of health bar crunch through out. The poached pear was fabulous and I highly recommend it. The portions were perfect, the wait staff attentive without hovering, ambience lovely. I can't wait to come back and eat my way through the whole menu!

Had dinner there last night and I was very happy with the service. The whole team was very good. Dinner was good but I was a little un-happy with the size of the crab appetizer. Also, there was a family that was related or had a friendship with the oweners and they really took advantage of it. Their young child was running all over the place and they thought it was cute. It was not. Overall I liked the place would consider another shot at it......I think it might be a little to up-scale for Jamestown. Not to say that the population can't afford it but the Island is a little more laid back.

I have had dinner here a couple of times in the last few months. The food is fresh, and our service has been very good. I had the steak frites, and it was just the right size (it was not a huge portion). So many places have increased the portion sizes that it is hard to judge how much to order. The presentation and innovation have been excellent as well.

Jamestown Fish had a slow start, but it has really kicked it up a notch! The seafood is incredible and the decor is beautiful. Over the summer sitting out on their deck is completely charming. Too funny that the same people own the Ganny across the street....

Good points ... nice wine.

There's a reason that Chef Matthew was just awarded Food & Wine's "People's Best New Chef" for 2014, the food here is extraordinary. This is not your typical RI "seafood" restaurant, your baked stuffed twin, and clams casino are nowhere to be found. Instead, here the menu changes weekly. And when I visited, entirely different from the one found on the restaurant's website. The dishes offer both local and European influences, as do the ingredients. Fresh, local and imported, caught fishes are the highlight. "Peektoe" crab, presumably from Maine, and Dover Sole shared my menu, along with Rope-grown Mussels and RI Quohogs. That "Peektoe" Rock Crab, was served as a composed salad. Stacked in a round over a plate glazing of ripe, soft sliced Avocado; its rich, fatty texture giving body to the soft and fine grains of crab. The Dover Sole was presented bone-in, as a twin fillet with the top skin removed and the delicate bottom still whole and in place. The flavor, sweet and salty, a rather decadent and fine piece of fish. And all that is hardly even the best part, they have 2 more menus. One for the bar, and another for the outdoor patio, effectively 2 more restaurants all on the same site. I'll be back for another round, and to give those a try as well. A+

Had dinner here last Friday on there outside patio!! The artichokes appetizer simply amazing!!! Entree fish & chips the best I've ever tasted!! ( and I'm from England). Also the short rib burger delicious!! So wonderful that this restaurant is walking distance from our house!!!

The best choice in Jamestown. Certainly many steps up the ladder from tourist food. The outside venue is very nice. The food is good buy hardly great. I had Bluefish with spinach with tomatoes and potatoes. The fish was nicely done, the side, nothing special. Lynn had a burger. We each had one glass of wine. The tally was $100. We have enjoyed far better meals at that price. We are traveling on our boat so the walking distance limits our choices.

Good food, but just too expensive for seafood in RI. Dozens of restaurants in Newport and Providence are at least as good, at a fraction of the price. Net, net: a pretentious outing. Fool me once, shame on you. Not going to fool me again!

Lobster linguini truffle scampi was extremely bland. So dissapointing especially when paying $39 for the dish. The swordfish was good but on the extremly small side. Service was horrible. Waitres left drinks at bar for a long time and what I received was an expensive watered down martini. Extremely unatentive throughout the entire dinner. Three stars is for location and nice atmosphere.

    (3)
  • Lisa C.

Excellent dinner. Great service. Nice ambiance. Fabulous artisanal bread. Peekytoe crab appetizer was crunchy, light and tasty, a nice contrast to the swordfish entree, which was served over eggplant in a spicy sauce. The swordfish was succulent, with a buttery texture and seared to perfection. We tried an ice cream sampler - Sicilian pistachio, Swiss chocolate, hazelnut and coconut chocolate chip. Pistachio and hazelnut are better suited to gelato since these are traditional gelato flavors.

I sent an email over a week ago and have gotten no response...so I will leave my review here:Hello- I am writing in regards to our visit yesterday. We arrived around 1 and found a high top table near the bar. We waiting over ten minutes for 2 beers, when they arrived there was over an inch of foam. We ordered waters but they didn't arrive until our appetizers arrived. When those arrived (smelts and artichokes) we were extremely disappointed. Your restaurant boasts one of the best chefs in the north east. I would imagine the same standard in your dining room would be showcased in all areas of your restaurant. The food was horrible. First the smelts had no spicy salt and were served with a wedge of lime. The artichokes were swimming in oil and also had no seasoning. The same aioli was served with both dishes which didn't seem right. We ordered another beer and that Did not come for ten minutes as well. We decided to leave extremely disappointed. The service was the worst we have seen in a while and we dine out 3-4 times a week. We also ha a server/food runner come to our table on 3 occasions with another tables food. I thought you should know of our experience. For a restaurant that we were so excited to try it was one of the worst dining experiences we have had.

Very Good food, beautifully prepared and served. That being said; I found most of my dishes to be very good - but not mind-blowing. The exception was my appetizer; Asparagus with Morels. Each bite was heaven. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful, and the sauce that accompanied them was truly world-class. I had to force myself to just take a bite, and then to put the fork down and enjoy it. Otherwise I would have just inhaled, and it would have been gone. My entree was a beautiful piece of Dover Sole; served on the bone, in a butter/caper/lemon sauce. It was a very good piece of fish, cooked just right - but I found the sauce to be overly citrus-y, and frankly, kinda ordinary. Sole is such a mild fish, that a creamier and less tart sauce would have been more to my taste. I'd also like to have seen a more *interesting* approach to the fish. Desert was a trio of sorbets; a small dish each of three flavors - strawberry, blood orange, and raspberry (or was it blackberry?). They were made in-house, and were exactly what they should be. The blood orange had an interestingly bitter edge, which contrasted nicely with the very sweet strawberry and the delightfully strong berry flavor. But in the end, they were just sorbets. Maybe I should have gone for the Jasmine Panna cotta. SO! Yes; good food. Excellent service. Delightful atmosphere. Why four stars, rather than five? I want it to be more. More interesting. More special. Truly Unique. For the price, I want every dish to be as cosmic an experience as my magnificent morels. I understand the need to hold on to the older, monied, culinarily conservative crowd who seem to be the majority of the clientele. But to attract younger, more adventurous foodie types, they'll have to think about stretching out a bit more. Looking forward to a return trip.

There's no better place to experience beautiful sunsets, amazing waterfront views (short walk) and incredibly fresh seafood than Jamestown. With Newport right over the Pell's Bridge, Jamestown has often been overlooked by many seasonal visitors like myself. To say the least, dining experience at Jamestown Fish has been nothing less than spectacular! The place is thoughtfully decorated with lots of windows to give a relaxing, peaceful and romantic vibe. Our server Emily was a super star! She was not only kind and friendly, but also provided exceptionally superb service. I have never experienced such thoughtfulness and care in a table service as Emily had shown. (Thank you Emily!) As for the food, we tried nearly everything on the menu. They were so elegantly prepared and displayed, and even more flavorful to taste. Love the use fresh ingredients and everything was perfectly seasoned to bring out the optimum flavors. We were pleasantly surprised when the chef/owner came over to greet us and ensure we were enjoying the food... and when we were leaving, the chef/owner took the time to shake our hands and thanked us for coming. Now, that's what I call a warm and exceptional hospitality.

Congrats to the seriously fabulous chef!!! And thanks to Elyse who accurately recommended: * Silver snapper * Eggplant appetizer: an absolute must! * Peekytoe crab For craft beer lovers, this is a little slice of heaven! Modern, minimalist decor; ample free street parking nearby; professional, courteous service. Best meal in town!

After hearing countless positive reviews, I was eager to join friends at Fish for brunch on a cold December day. Upon arrival, we were pleased to randomly score a table by the fireplace, a goal we had set for dining that day. While my entree was good, the chef's inability to accommodate my friend's special dietary request negatively shifted the mood of our dining experience. Choosing a low-cholesterol diet is fairly common, and I found it unacceptable to see that an egg-white dish was offered yet my friend's request for an egg-white omelet was denied. Patrons, dining in any restaurant, should be able to enjoy healthful meals when it does not alter the integrity of the chef's creation. It was only an omelet for heaven's sake! After choosing another entree, my friend made an effort to stress that she'd like her dish prepared medium-RARE. It was served medium WELL. Disappointing. She politely accepted and ate the meal so as to not fracture the dining experience for the rest of us. We also found the acoustics unfavorable for good conversation. The many hard surfaces that define it's simple, clean décor make for a loud restaurant. It's not for intimate conversation. I will try the restaurant again; but next time with more realistic expectations. It's not the five-star restaurant described on Yelp.

I have a strange fascination with small islands so I'm always looking for an excuse to make it out to Jamestown. It's too bad the main drag through town isn't a bit more active, but Jamestown Fish should be enough to attract you to this quaint town. We went to Jamestown Fish for the first time for our anniversary, and were pleasantly surprised when the staff honored my request for a semi-private table! We were seated next to the fire, a bit away from the other diners, and really enjoyed the intimate setting. The staff also treated us to a couple of glasses of champagne soon after we sat down to help us celebrate. This was a really nice touch, and certainly was above and beyond what we expected. Since this was our first visit, we wanted to get a little bit of everything! We each had an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert - and nibbled off each other's plates a bit (there was plenty left over!). We enjoyed a bottle of white from their extensive wine list, and each tried a tea with dessert - they even have an extensive tea list! For our appetizers, my wife had the cheese plate, and I had the "Peekytoe Crab". I absolutely loved the crab - it was a wonderfully citrusy, perfectly portioned salad of crab and avocado. I would recommend this dish to anyone (even those unlucky enough to have a shellfish allergy provided they brought their sense of adventure and an epi-pen)! For dinner, my wife had the sea scallops. They were perfectly cooked, and accompanied by the most delicious carrot puree we'd ever had. The sweetness of the scallops and the carrot puree were perfectly complemented by the nutty argan oil and the savory asparagus. I had the "Jamestown Fish Cookpot". From the menu, I was looking forward to a cioppino (that humble San Francisco fish stew accompanied by bread for sopping up its delicious broth), but what I got was so much better! The broth in this dish is a rich and complex melange of melted butter, saffron, the juices of various shellfish, and lobster roe. When the chef came to visit our table, I think he was pleased to see the mustache of roe and saffron that had formed on my upper lip as I impolitely slurped down the broth having exhausted the ample supply of bread. Well done chef (and well-timed - thanks a lot). Our desserts, accompanied by herbal teas, were an excellent end to the night. My wife had the chocolate pot de creme, and I had the special, a granny smith apple cobbler a la mode (with homemade ice cream!). And just to illustrate the attention to detail at Jamestown Fish, both of these desserts were served in their own tiny Le Creuset pots. That was a lot of fun for some reason! Jamestown Fish is one of my new favorite spots in Rhode Island, and we'll absolutely be back. What we need to find now is a spot to grab a coffee nearby... It would be great to enjoy on an after-dinner walk down to the bay to look at the Newport Bridge lighting up the night. Check this place out - it's an awesome "special occasion" restaurant.

Great patio and patio bar in the summer (hence the 3 stars), terrible service, below average food and a very high price tag. This place looks the part; beautiful decoration, nice uniforms, expensive menu but every time I've gone here I've been severely let down with food and service. Jamestown really needs a better restaurant selection.

Had the great pleasure of dining here this past weekend. This is absolutely the best meal I have had in the Newport area in years! The linguine and clams had the essence of the ocean, remarkable! I tasted my husbands meal, The cooks pot , which was the most fabulous entree! Returned a few days later to try the pizza menu for an early dinner. Once again just fabulous! Fresh, fun and truly enjoyable. Wait staff and bar service were spot on with generous drink portions. Really surprised that anyone from NY or CT would complain about the prices. All of Newport and Jamestown is pricey, and this was actually a bargain for the quality and quantity. I spent less for dinner at Jamestown fish then we did a BB2 for a late lunch. And certainly enjoyed it more. By the way- Uber drivers in this area are wonderful!

Fantastic scenery and delicious food; 4- star worthy. The lackluster service and snobby hostesses made for a negative -3 star experience. Our bartender was worth 4 which makes for +2. The delicious hamburger was worth at least 1. Hence 2 stars for what should have been a 4+ afternoon. Did I do my math right? or should you get reasonably competent hostesses?

We had dinner here last Saturday and it was perfect. We were seated promptly at our reservation time and sat by the fire in a beautiful room. Service was excellent throughout the meal, starting with a very well made martini. Apps included scallops, fish chowder, and an eggplant dish - all of which were excellent. The highlight of the evening was by far the Dover sole. Although it was pricey at $45.00, it is the whole fish and it is cooked simply but perfectly. The monkfish and scallops entrees were also very good. All of their ice creams are home made and change nightly. We tried a sampler of 3 of our favorite was the blood orange. The Chef/Owner came by to check on our meal during the evening and answered some questions - a nice touch. We will definitely return on our next rip to the Newport area.

Always wanted to try this place since learning the chef once cooked at a favorite restaurant in Norwalk, Ct. Finally stopped by for lunch today and boy was I disappointed. The two dishes we ordered, Lobster Roll @$24.00 and Lobster and artichoke plate @$30.00 basically took what should have been robust New England fare and turned them both into stingy portions, overly seasoned with pesto and totally bereft of taste and flavor. Nothing wrong with a chef trying to put his or her own spin a dish, but both these attempts cost so much and delivered so little.

On our way out of Newport, we stumbled onto FISH in Jamestown and they totally redeemed our impression on the areas culinary scene. The Lobster Bisque was the best we had in New England. The Steak Frites was perfectly cooked and seasoned with a delightful seasoning. And the Swordfish dish was intensely spectacular! Highly recommended!

For a change of pace from my usual glass of (dry) white or white wine, I asked the bartender if he could concoct something delicious and light (in taste and calories) on a very humid summer day. He asked if I was willing to trust him and I said "sure." Before my eyes he concocted a cucumber martini (made with cucumber-infused vodka of course) rimmed with alternating bands of freshly ground sea salt and pepper corns. It was light, refreshing, and of course had a very nice "bite" to it. I found it to be the perfect way to end a lovely summer outing day with a friend. We did not have any food but the bar food that I saw being served looked pretty darned fresh and appetizing. I hope to return another time to try that out as well. Overall, I found the bartender, (including the entertainment of watching my cocktail being made), the other wait staff and the customers surrounding us, to be engaging and delightful. I highly recommend their Cucumber Martini.Try it before summer's gone!

I have had dinner here a couple of times in the last few months. The food is fresh, and our service has been very good. I had the steak frites, and it was just the right size (it was not a huge portion). So many places have increased the portion sizes that it is hard to judge how much to order. The presentation and innovation have been excellent as well.

Excellent service!! We called before to ask if they allowed dogs, and they promptly said they would welcome us and say they loved dogs! Great laid back atmosphere and friendly professional staff.. What more could you ask for!

I went to Jamestown Fish on a Saturday for an early dinner with a friend. We had reservations, but they weren't necessary as there was only one other couple in the restaurant. As the evening went on a few more tables were filled, but they weren't overly crowded. My guess is that they're slowing down for the winter. Our waitress was very attentive and accommodating. She happily moved us to a table by the fireplace when we mentioned that we were a little chilled by the window and she was very helpful with the menu. I decided to start with the squash soup, which was the best squash soup I've ever had. The chef was sampling his eggplant appetizer that evening, so we also got a tasting of that. I didn't love it, but I'm also not a fan of eggplant. For dinner I had the skate fish prepared Italian style. It was really tasty and was served with linguine. Dessert was a Chocolate Creme Pot and was amazing. Overall delicious meal, cozy ambiance, and great service. Will definitely be dining at Jamestown Fish again.

Slow, unfriendly, and not accommodating. I asked for a lunch portion of the grilled vegetable entree and was denied. The vegan friendly eggplant appetizer was a ridiculously small portion size for the price I also ordered a side of roasted potatoes, which were actually deep fried home fries. Additionally, the service was very slow.

Excellent seafood In a beautiful location. Chef Matthew brings his remarkable talents to fresh New England sesfood. I started with the octopus appetizer - with fingerling potatoes and capers, my dinner date had the peeky toe crab. The kitchen adjusted the seasoning on the crab since she cannot eat pepper. For the main course, I had the seared tuna, my son had dover sole while my date had a seafood pasta special which was served with truffles! For desert we had their remarkable basil ice cream. Service was very professional. It was raining the day we were there so we ate in the dining room. The other dining areas had separate menus matching their settings. Well worth the price.

The wait staff did everything they could to make our visit great! I would highly recommend this restaurant!

This place was phenomenal. We we went for brunch on a gloomy, chilly Sunday in November. I had champagne with raw oysters and clams. My wife ordered decaf coffee (that they then brewed fresh) and a delicious butternut squash soup. The server was excellent. The ambiance was beautiful. I then ordered linguini with...yes more clams. It was delicious, containing no no meat or dairy. The clams both raw and cooked were from the very bay we were staring at a couple blocks away. My wife had the croque madam for her main dish with a green salad. This was also very good. I asked the server for a wine to pair with my pasta. She brought over a Chablis and chardonnay to sample. I went with Chablis which was perfect. The place was certainly pricey but a nice treat for sure.

Very nice location with a crisp, clean ambiance. Not the cheapest place in the world, but the prices are commensurate with the quality of the food. I came with a large group and everyone ordered something different. Everyone was pleased, recommendations especially for the seafood pot. No tap beer or fountain drinks is weird. Must have something to do with the licensing scheme, but bottles of everything is awkward.

I used to go to the tiki bar here a few times a year and loved it. I haven't been in a few years. I went yesterday expecting a tiki bar and the same fun bartenders I knew. It's no longer a tiki bar. New owners? The waitstaff was very uncoordinated. We had 3 different waiters/waitresses, and no one knew what the rest had done (like taken our order). They ran out of beef for my burger. Wait, what?! It took forever for our order of fish and chips + pasta and clams to come out. Fish takes 7 minutes to fry, and all you do is drop it. Pasta is easy too. Waiters didn't come around to often, so I couldn't even ask for olive oil for my bread. Our meals came out and they were exceptionally small. Smallest dishes I ever received. So small, we went out to eat afterwards at the seafood and ice cream place near the dock. And the meal cost $55 without a tip! Food was excellent though. Props to the cook. However, I will not eat here again.

I had the best tuna in my entire life here recently. I have eaten fine tuna on three continents, and and this... this was some spectacular tuna. Seared perfectly, mostly rare, butter-smooth, and covered in some kind of tingly herb concoction that complemented the richness of the tuna with a tangy fresh greenness.... It came with Brussels sprouts. They were good enough to stand up against the tuna, which says a lot. My companion had the hotpot. Half a lobster, scallops, tons of shrimp, the biggest mussels I've ever seen - fantastic. The service was very good, attentive without being too intrusive. I'd also like to point out the quality of the olive oil.

On Wednesday, 09/16/2015, I was visiting Jamestown and it was recommended to me by a local person that Jamestown Fish would be a good place for dinner. I had a wonderful dinner experience. The service and food were outstanding and worth every penny. Our waitress, Elyse, did an excellent job of waiting on us. The main chef, Heliovaldo Araujo came out to our table and really made us feel welcomed. We had their signature dish which is the Jamestown Fish Soup. Best main course fish soup I ever had. Matthew MacCartney, who I consider the wine specialist of the restaurant, did a very good job explaining the wine list to us. Not to sound like a snob, but being from the San Francisco area and having had formal wine education, I know my food and wine. I would recommend Jamestown Fish for an excellent food and wine experience.

I have never written a review before, but unfortunately ,this was my worst dinning experience EVER! I walked in to the outside area .no one was there to get us a table .I searched for the hostess,I was assured by the wait staff that she was around somewhere.after 10 minutes I sat at an outside fire where I gave my name to a waitress.I asked for a table, and the waitress told me a 45 minute wait was in order, but I noticed that many tables were vacant, and people were just coming off the street and seating themselves.after waiting for 45 minutes ,I asked about the seating procedure, and was told that I could have seated myself@a high top table(what's the difference, and why not tell me earlier) Anyhow,i had the pizza appetizer, which was like cardboard, the eggplant appetizer was uneatable, drenched in balsamic vinegar, the burger was burnt, with cold fries.I waited for ,our waitress to get me ketchup, and she gave me enough on a dessert plate for two fries.and disappeared, until it was time to give me the check.don't waste, your time, and not cheap.Go across the street .the service & food is always excellent!

Went here based on good reviews and word of mouth recommendations. Very disappointed. Fish stew was inedible. Waiter brought wrong wine, then disappeared to open it after he presented it! Somewhere with such a stellar wine list should conduct some training for the staff that is serving it. Unacceptable. Waited over 45 minutes between apps and entrees and when they finally arrived, her steak was overdone, cold and hard. My salmon was good. With the prices they charge, you would expect A LOT more. Will not return.

We sat on the patio - reservations are a must. Appetizers, entrees, and drinks all were outstanding. Great wine list as well. Waiter was very attentive and they easily accommodated food allergies. Swordfish which can be easily overcooked, was perfect! Uncle Joe's eggplant was delicious - friend ordered the smelts and loved them as well. A memorable meal in a lovely location.

Wooooww!!!! A must try in Jamestown! The service was excellent, our server was Joseph and he was amazing. The food was delicious- the clam pizza was one of the best ever and the flounder and cod were divine! Great restaurant :-) beers were great too!!

Everything thing from the moment you enter this restaurant was GREAT! The Chef greeted us and then came to our table after dinner was served to ensure we liked our meal. I had the Italian Squash Soup, perfection so good as an appetizer, and the scallops for dinner...again fabulous with a carrot puree! My date had the Skate Fish and he loved it!

This place is absolutely fantastic. The food was eclectic, inventive and absolutely delicious. Chef Matthew take the time and visits each and every table.

We were looking for a restaurant in Jamestown, found Fish posted on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Yelp came through again.. The restaurant was very accommodating when suddenly we needed a table for 6 instead of 4. The wait staff, friendly and knowledgeable, helping us navigate the menu. We were told that Fish is a fresh restaurant. Nothing is frozen but comes fresh, directly from the farms, fishermen and suppliers which means that some of the entrees might be limited. No problem that evening as we had 6:30 seating. Our food was exceptional! I had swordfish cooked to perfection. It was seared on the outside but moist and flakey on the inside. It was presented on a bed of fresh peas and pea pods. My husband had halibut, equally as tasty. For desert we had their in house made Ice Cream. Ummm,, I wanted a second serving but will power kicked in. I would highly recommend Jamestown Fish think you'll love it!,

I took my wife and my son and his wife in Dora weekday lunch. First time at this place. I think it's so-so overall. My wife and I had the fluke filet with"mixed greens". The filet was nicely breaded, but was overlooked and dry. The mixed greens was a handful of lettuce with vinagrette. For $18. My daughter in law had the lobster roll, which came with pesto, which overpowered the flavor of the lobster. That and fries for $24. My sons fish of the day was ok.

We came here on Mothers Day. We were driving back from Woods Hole where we had taken the ferry over to MV for the weekend. It was before the season really got going some places were not open yet. My point being that I was certain while on Martha's Vineyard we would have a really memorable meal and we ended up having that meal at Jamestown Fish. We did not have a reservation so we sat at the small bar in the main dining room. (It was on the early side) Everything was really tasty and the staff was very friendly. (as we sat down and as we were leaving various parties small and large were int he restaurant for the holiday) Definitely make a point to get here the food is prepared with care from good ingredients. They have an outdoor seating area and woof fired pizza on another menu so may have the investigate on another visit. Jamestown is also just really cute and picturesque.

I enjoyed the meal, but felt that the experience was damaged by a lack of flavor and the general feel for the dining room. A place such as this should leave me with a memorable experience. Firstly, the food: I had the crab salad appetizer. Probably the best thing I ate all night. Although I found two bits of shell, it was fresh, light and delicious. My wife had the oysters and little necks with the special cocktail sauce. Good cocktail sauce, but no explanation of the oysters and where they came from, presumably locally sourced. I don't feel I should have to ask since I had already asked loads of questions about the menu. Invested interest in local fare was clearly stated. My wife ordered the halibut and it was simply bland and boring. We love to honor the fish and not over power proteins with seasoning and add ons, but this was just boring. I had the fish soup entree. Very yummy, and maybe another highlight, but I just didn't feel the love. To my next point; feeling the love was not a part of this experience. My feeling of boredom regarding this meal may emerge from the fact that the chef is boring. It was in the food, his presence, even the other diners presence. There was no energy. He had an air of apathy as he came through the dining room. This has an uncanny affect on a diner. I felt slightly rushed, but then ignored around dessert. Cocktails were mediocre at best. Location is nice, but there are better places. I will try this place again, I need to get a round two. Maybe a best out of three is in order. I can only hope.

We really want to like this place since we live in town but we have been three times and sat on the patio and each time had not so great food. The linguine and clams dish had no flavor and the fish soup was gritty. AND they don't have highchairs!! I get it, you don't want my 9 month old at 8pm Saturday night, but for lunch on the patio, why not be accommodating? Why make your customers feel unwelcome?

Jamestown Fish had a slow start, but it has really kicked it up a notch! The seafood is incredible and the decor is beautiful. Over the summer sitting out on their deck is completely charming. Too funny that the same people own the Ganny across the street....

Good points ... nice wine.

The wait staff did everything they could to make our visit great! I would highly recommend this restaurant!

The food was extremely small portions, and mediocre at best. For the price of what was on the menu, we were sever

Impeccable service, great food, beautiful atmosphere, I am sad that I have not happened upon this restaurant before I did over a year ago now. It will be a wonderful place to visit during the busier but warmer months, especially with the inviting patio! You have my 5 stars, Jamestown Fish!

Had the best meal today at Jamestown Fish. We sat at the bar to be in a shady spot and we had dedicated service. Friendly staff, fantastic chef, a beautiful sunny day with a cool breeze on the patio. Highly recommend it.

The place was beautiful, the service excellent, appetizer was amazing, but the soft shell crab entrée was so salty and oily I couldn't even eat it. For me, that ruined the experience.

This place is absolutely fantastic. The food was eclectic, inventive and absolutely delicious. Chef Matthew take the time and visits each and every table. The wine list is amazing - any list with Quinterelli gets a huge thumbs up!!! Do yourself a favor - come here and experience dining at its panacea.

Food was above and beyond expectation, good recommendations from the gorgeous little bartender down stairs...great personality didn't mind our spec requests. Beautiful setting for a memorial weekend, inside and out simple elegant food, can't wait to go back.

Excellent service!! We called before to ask if they allowed dogs, and they promptly said they would welcome us and say they loved dogs! They were incredibly accommodating, taking care of us and our 4 legged friend with water and wine. Food was amazing and some of the best fish we have had in a long time. Great laid back atmosphere and friendly professional staff.. What more could you ask for!

We sat on the patio - reservations are a must. Appetizers, entrees, and drinks all were outstanding. Great wine list as well. Waiter was very attentive and they easily accommodated food allergies. Swordfish which can be easily overcooked, was perfect! Uncle Joe's eggplant was delicious - friend ordered the smelts and loved them as well. A memorable meal in a lovely location.
