The food was excellent, first time there, we will definenatly go back! Bison steak was perfect, dessert tray did not do justice to the dessert we received, the display tray looked old, but the dessert we ate was excellent.

Had dinner at the Rising Sun Inn last night. The restaurant has been around forever but has changed hands many times over the years. Despite having grown up in the area this was the first time I ever dined at the restaurant. The exterior and interior of the restaurant is really very charming. There's a nice open fireplace in the dining area and the bar area has a cool rustic look to it with lots of wood and stone. It looks like a great place to have a nice dinner out. To start things we ordered the Homemade mozzarella sticks and cream of mushroom soup as appetizers. The mozzarella sticks were interesting as the cheese was wrapped and fried in egg roll dough. The marinara served with it was delicious but egg roll dough is so bland compared to egg batter, beer batter or seasoned bread crumbs - more typical vessels for the cheese, and good mozzarella is so mild, that the sticks really lacked flavor. I appreciate the inventiveness though. The mushroom soup came in on the opposite end of the taste spectrum. It was dense, chunky and creamy and it seemed like a well made soup but unfortunately it was so heavily seasoned with thyme that you couldn't even tell it was mushroom soup. It tasted like thyme soup. While the mushroom flavor was almost indiscernible I could make out what I think was a hint of Sherry. So the apps didn't do too much for us. The Caesar salads we got with our dinners were fine, not bad, but not that great either. The rolls (saw another table had them and finally got them with our entrees after asking) were really good. You could tell they were homemade. For entrees we got Grilled Chicken Angel Hair pasta with basil, marinara and fresh mozzarella and the Sauteed medallions of Bison with brandied mushroom demi-glace over wild rice. The pasta dish was just ok, other than the fresh mozzarella nothing was special about it. The bison dish was a bit ho-hum as well. The bison was cooked perfectly to order (medium-rare) but was surprisingly flavorless and on a couple of bites I detected an off quality (frozen?) to the taste. The mushroom demi-glace pretty much carried the dish and it along with the wild rice were the only strong flavors to be found. Sadly the rice had some clumpy sections instead of being nice and loose. The comical part of the evening was dessert. I ordered creme brulee and was recounting how it had been several years since I ordered it. The reason it had been so long is the last time I got it I wasn't happy with it because the dessert came out ice cold. Now for the uninitiated, creme brulee is best served moderately hot to warm having come right from the oven, which makes the custard heavenly, and the sugar on top should have been freshly caramelized so even if the bottom is cool the top is at least warm. So as I sat there recollecting, the waitress delivered my creme brulee and guess what.....it was ice cold! I was beyond disappointed, especially since I could tell it was a very well made dessert, unfortunately to me creme brulee cold is like red wine cold, it takes most of the life out of it because the cold deadens the flavors. Service was good but with the dining room virtually empty and enough servers and buspeople for three times as many tables they didn't have a tough job. I really wanted to like the Rising Sun Inn more but while the decor, ambiance and service were strong the food just repeatedly fell flat for us and was missing that WOW factor. When we arrived there was only one table occupied in the dining room and by the time we left there had been only one table seated after us. Three tables for a Friday night seating doesn't seem to bode well for the restaurant's future. I'm going to be generous and give 3 stars because the food wasn't bad and I can tell they're trying, but some things need to be tweaked if they want to stand out as a fine dining restaurant.

Awsome sliced buffalo Au jus with horseradish sauce. Huge portion on big baguette and just juicy with taste. Buffy burgers and lobster bisque are great. I really like this place. Gets a nice crowd too.

Great atmosphere in the bar and out on the back deck. Delicious food, especially the buffalo (bison) specialties. Good friendly service. The food is a tad expensive, especially when you are sitting outside and served plastic water cups

Probably the best restaurant I have ever eaten at in all of Pennsylvania, and maybe even beyond. Getting into the gritty details would just be unnecessary--simply put, this place was phenomenal. The soups, the appetizers, and of course, the main course. I absolutely loved their appetizers. We ordered Baked baby brie which was delicious, and the lobster bisque was mouth-watering. I ordered the medallions of Bison, which was cooked to perfection. They practically melt in your mouth. Overall, for this old, shady-looking manor house, you certainly should not judge it based on its' cover.

This place was pretty good, despite the lack of space. I came with a large group of people (25+) and considering the sardine-canned feel, the bartenders were very quick, prices were not too ridiculous, and the band performing that night was very lively and kept the party going. I was a bit upset that the bar ran out of Myers rum, but that was only one of a few downfalls of this place. The kitchen was open for bar snacks, and originally our group was sitting outside. It started raining so there was as bum rush to get inside, but our waitress was still able to bring our orders around to one of the side tables once the crowd got settled in. I wouldn't mind coming back a second time if in the area.

Great food, warm atmosphere both in the restaurant and for a few drinks in the bar. Open deck in the summer with live music rocks. Good adult friendly fun. Highly recommend. PS - the Bison kicks a@@ ;-)

This place is great .The food is delicious and the staff is extremely nice. I would recommend this to anyone. They also have bands there sometimes on the weekends which has been a lot of fun.During the summer they offer outside seating on the back deck where you can watch the buffalo.

This was my fourth or fifth time there, and it has always been average. However, this time was below average. The service was irritating. She started off nice then got an attitude when we corrected her error on our bill. She began clearing the table before we were finished. We had terrible cheesesteak eggrolls. They reminded me of mystery meat from the high school cafeteria. We had funky fries that tasred freezer burnt then fried. I have no intention of going back.

We had our wedding at the Rising Sun Inn. Everyone was very helpful and responsive thru the whole process. In the end, we had a wonderful wedding!! There was not one thing I would have changed about the day. The whole staff on the day of hustled and made sure we had a great day. We went with the served dinner and the food was fantastic. We also held our ceremony at the Rising Sun Inn. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful day and the surrounding area provided a great back drop to our ceremony. Feel free to reach out to me if you are thinking of having your wedding there.

Love this place. I've only ever eaten in the tavern so I can't speak to the dining room, but the food is great. Burgers are always cooked to order, which is always better than being surprised by a burnt or undercooked meal. They have decent bar specials and serve my favorite brew - Yards Philadelphia Pale Ale. Great food, efficient service and a genuine ambiance that speaks to its incredible history. Will be returning!

My husband and I chose the Rising Sun Inn as the venue for our wedding in September and we couldn't have been happier. We had our reception in the Barn on the property which was perfect for the rustic style wedding reception we were looking for. Fred, the owner and chef is incredibly accommodating with any and all requests we had. The service was amazing -- I didn't have to worry about a thing all night, everything was taken care of. Fred was incredibly gracious, allowing us to set up days in advance and giving us plenty of time to take everything down the next day. We loved having the wedding party photos taken in the fields behind the property for the perfect country backdrop. Fred basically let us do what we wanted in terms of decoration which is exactly what I was looking for. The appetizers and entrees were delicious. The bar service was great with plenty of options for our guests. We were even able to close the bar and restaurant in the Inn for our cocktail hour at the beginning of the reception before moving to the barn for dinner. I can't say enough about how happy I am with our choice. Our guests were all raving about what a great time they had and I can't ask for more than that!

I have recently moved to the area. I find this restaurant has a rustic charm and the surrounding property is beautiful. Julie is a fantastic bartender, always making her clientele feel welcome and Fred, the chef/owner, is talented as seen on the WFMZ

You wouldn't know it, but this rustic old manor house in the middle of nowhere (but, hey, I grew up there, so it is MY middle of nowhere) is home to both a casual bar and a white tablecloth dining room. A bit of classical culinary technique offered in a land saturated with burgers and pizza, the Rising Sun Inn is a delightful change of pace. Yes, you can get burgers and wings at the bar, but the majority of the offerings in both the bar and dining room are far more interesting and inventive. The Rising Sun Inn is most noteworthy for its use of buffalo meat. As the buffalo meat is sourced from Hillside Farms, which is no more than a mile away from the restaurant, I definitely recommend going this route. Yea, you can get a buffalo burgers lots of places now. Great. But where else can you savor smoked buffalo carpaccio? Or enjoy tender buffalo medallions in a rich demi-glace? Perhaps an impressive buffalo ribeye or roast is more up your alley. The chef at Rising Sun Inn has talent, for sure, as the bison dishes are cooked precisely. Being so lean, there is little room for error when using buffalo meat and I'm constantly amazed that the chef has nailed the meat temperature every time. Beyond the buffalo offerings, you may wish to try the duck confit salad or lobster bisque to start. Indulgent is the first word to come to mind. While I've personally stayed with the buffalo dishes, fellow dining companions have thoroughly enjoyed the veal marsala, crab stuffed chicken, and beef wellington. While the standard menu choices are great, you may find something even more interesting on offer in the daily/seasonal specials section, so be sure to check that out first. Entrees come with a salad, starch, and vegetable du jour, all of which tend to be rather tepid; this is my main negative point about the Rising Sun Inn. I'd really like to see more thought and effort put into those aspects of the meal. It's just a let-down to go from the ecstasy of a fantastically prepared buffalo rib-eye to slogging through yawn-inducing rice and string beans. The service in the dining room is on the formal side and has been very good: well-paced, informative, and attentive yet unobtrusive. Despite the formality, you'll likely see a few diners in jeans and a button-down, so no need to iron-out your Sunday best for dinner here; nice slacks and a collared shirt should do the trick. The ambiance of the dining room is typically quaint; you'd be hard pressed to differentiate it from any one of the myriad inns or taverns that dot the Southeast PA countryside. No big deal for me, however, as I usually focus on the food and people while dining out. In fact, I'd rather not pay more for fancy decorations, bits and baubles. All in all, the Rising Sun Inn is a well-run, quality establishment that offers unique cuisine for the area. Go check it out.

Having driven by the Rising Sun on my way to work for a few years we finally made it out there for dinner. We all were pleasantly surprised by the service, menu, and drink/beer selections. Most of us had bison burgers that were very tasty. The other great part is they have fairly large outdoor seating area that overlooks the farm outback. The menu also has a lot of great options along with burgers (i.e. steaks, seafood, lamb, duck). The bar had a nice cozy look and a few good size tv, so this looks like a good place to watch a game. A previous reviewer indicated it felt "sardine like", but there are few places in the area that if you roll in with 25+ people the place will not feel somewhat crowded. Overall, I will definitely go back and get an entree this time and another time to get wings and watch the Eagles.
