Like Samantha said, as a Swat native I'm beholden to give Renato's a positive review. It's been amazingly consistent over the past, I dunno, TWENTY years. Lord only knows how many meals I've eaten from here. It will always be my holotype for fried chicken. If it's still anything like it was in the late 90s, that means it's overrun with obnoxious high schoolers (heh) on Friday night.

Amazing pizza and hoagies!! Very friendly staff! Can't beat it!

Being mean to Renato's in a review is like being an asshole to the nice little old lady who lives next door whose cats you watch sometimes when she goes on the bus to Atlantic City for the day. She's a bit boring to talk to, smells like wintergreen and mothballs, and always tells you how to make the roses in your garden grow better next year. You're glad she lives next door, you'll be happy to take care of her cats for the foreseeable future, but honestly if you see her coming you might suddenly duck into the basement and start a load of laundry. So yeah. This is heavy, oily, generic pizza done competently, nice staff, delivered efficiently to Swarthmore, Wallingford and Media. You can't be against it, but it's hard to be for it either. It's pretty much the best you're going to get around here, maybe comparable to Little Anthony's in Media. Renato's is a civic institution: a place for high schoolers to gaze at each other's pimple-studded faces and say snide things about their teachers, for parents to take kids while going to and fro from afterschool classes, playdates and soccer matches, for Swarthmore students to take a break from studying, and so on.

This pizza is truly amazing-- really great bread, not too cheesy, with a nice crunch and tomato taste. So fortunate to have such a great local pizza place!

I grew up eating Renato's pizza, it is by far the best pizza, hoagies, strombolis, and greek salads! Their pizza is pretty thick crusted, with a generous amount of sauce and toppings, delish! The hoagies are fantastic, especially the italian and tuna. The strombolis are great to share with a friend or two, and the greek salads are chock full of yummy veggies and feta cheese topped with a great dressing. Wish that I lived closer and we could get renatos all the time! :) p.s. they have great water ice in the summer!

They're pretty good. They only made me have some sort of food poisoning every third time we ate there. And they only deliberately overcharged us two or three times out of every five times we go there. Other than that, they're probably pretty good!

They have really good pizza. We also like their Greek salads and meatball grinders. I have friends who rave about the tomatoes and bacon pizza!! Great place for take out on way home for work. Set up with 4-5 booths. Not good for large groups. Mixed crowd of students, college students, families w/strollers and take out customers. Can get crowded at times. Metered parking out front. Consistently good and staff always very friendly. Can get pricey depending on toppings.

Best Pizza in Delco. Philly style. Sit down, take out, catering. Greek salads. Cheese steaks. Fries, Cheese Fries. Chicken strips. Fish & Chips. Many other items. This place is jammed on Friday & Saturday nites year round--best food around.

Had the worst pizza delivered from Renatos ever!!!!! We ordered an extra cheese pizza, well done, delivered. It was delivered and it did have extra cheese. However, the cheese was not on the pizza but sloshed over the side. Furthermore, it was underdone, not even close to well done or fully cooked. So the cheese was melted, not brown at all, and the dough was barely edible. It's been a downward, slow spiral since Alex left the business. It's clear that they really don't care.

Really greasy!! Although Edible and not the worst pizza I've ever had, I wouldn't go out of your way to head there.

The pizza I grew up eating! Always great for a quick bite after work with friends and maybe some delivery. Right in the heart of swarthmore, I used to walk to Renatos as a kid. The store holds some real memories for me. Favorites are bacon and tomato pizza and a cheesesteak with fried onions.

Really solid pizza-their specialty slices are the best things in here. Their salads are mediocre and their pies are good (but not outstanding). Come here for the individual slices, but go somewhere else for the other things.

Love their Pizza and cheesesteaks. The cannoli's are a great way to end the meal. Small, but extra fast service makes it work. Open late and almost every day.

Just happened to be in Swarthmore, which I rarely get to. Just happened to feel like a quick bite to eat. Just happened to find this place based on Yelp reviews. That's how it works sometimes. They make a good slice. I like it when I see a bunch of pies on the counter to choose from different toppings. Not enough Delco pizza joints do this, though i suspect there's a reason for that as a lot of the Delco pizza places I frequent are far more delivery oriented rather than walk in and grab a slice oriented. I've had a thing for buffalo chicken slices lately. The one they make here has a tangy sauce that seemed like it was a mix of BBQ sauce with the hot sauce. I polished it off happily. It was a huge slice, lots of meat, lots of cheese, worth it for $3.50. I don't know if this is the end all be all place to eat in Swarthmore, but it will do nicely for a quick slice.

Right in the heart of Swarthmore is this great little pizza spot. I knew it was good because my niece will ONLY eat their pizza. Pizza I consider really good just doesn't measure up in her opinion. So last night after I pick her up for her Mom she asks if I can get her a pizza at Renato. Now I have had a slice or two there and thought it was OK, but I know to judge pizza right you need to order a whole pie pipping fresh out of the oven. The pie was excellent! Wonderful, gooey mozzarella cheese. Tasty sauce. fresh dough just cooked right. A winner! What does the good book say about a child shall lead them? Consider me a new follower of Renato!

Stopped in for a slice yesterday for dinner. Since it was my first time here I tried their plain pizza, just to get a sense for the quality of the cheese and sauce without other toppings competing. Darn good slice of pizza. The cheese was great, slightly salty and not too oily. The crust was excellent, crusty on the exterior, chewy and light on the interior. Sauce was pretty standard. I would really like to try a slice that is freshly made and not one that has been sitting around for an hour and heated up. But even that was good. A freshly made pie might earn 5 stars... The interior is quite small, 6 or 7 tables. I'm not in this area too often but if I find myself nearby again I would definitely stop in for a slice or two.

Located in "The Ville" across the train tracks of Swarthmore, Renato's pizza is pretty much the only option for nearby casual food and restaurants. There are 5 booths for seating, and one large flatscreen T.V. on the corner, usually showing a soccer match or whatnot. The menu was vast, carrying steaks, specialty pizzas, and sandwiches (hoagies). The chef makes the pizza in front of you, so that's a sight to see. When I tried to search for the prices for pizza by the slice, I noticed it wasn't on the menu. I had to ask. It is, $2.50 for cheese, $3.00 for one topping, and $3.50 for more than one topping. They have tomatoes, cheese, pepperoni, broccoli, bacon, ham, pesto, olives, and a few more that I cannot remember. If you do get pizza by the slice, you'll first notice that there are pizzas displayed on the counter. That is where I chose my pizza and the chef then puts the slice in the oven. Not really fresh or made to order. I chose the pesto, olives, and tomato pizza for $3.50. The slice is enormous (1/6 of a 18" pizza?). It's a bit bigger than a Costco pizza slice. The cheese was not soft at all - it was still a bit hard and chewy, not the delicious melted type. The crust was all right. Not crunchy or anything. The best thing about it was its size. Tomatoes were juicy, and olives sufficiently. They have about 6/7 spices for you to put on your food, located on the counter (basil, cheese, pepper, etc.) This was my first meal at Swarthmore. It was not spectacular, but it was sufficient. It'll have to do for college. I don't have many other options for outside food anyway.

When you walk into Renato's you smell the warm pizzas. I would recommend having a sausage pizza with a soda. Also the onion rings are very pleasant. You get your meal in about 10 minutes. And also it's very easy to leave. At the beginning you pay and then when you're ready to leave you throw your trash away and then leave. Décor I like how the seats are posted onto the wall. When you walk in, to your right is the tables, a tv, and some plants. In front of you is the counter, a table, and the ovens. Nice pizza flavors: 1. sausage 2. pepperoni 3. cheese PEACE OUT

I was told about this place by some of the local Swat's that lived near this place, that it has been here oh 20+ years. I did not get to try the pie here, but had a chance to take in one of their cheese steaks, and I must say it was pretty good. First off the fact that they do not put Cheese Whiz on their product was great. I just don't see how whiz makes anything good. Anyhow it was a quick stop on my last day in the state, and it was around the corner from the B&B I was staying at. On my next visit I will definitely try the pies there, they looked just as good as the steaks did!

I think I found a new pizza place to visit on a regular basis. I've always heard about Renato's and finally tried it a few days ago. The shop is located in the heart of Swarthmore's quaint shopping/downtown section. It has an old school feel inside. The staff are extremely friendly and you get the feel that they really care about how their business can serve you. As for the pizza, I was impressed. Good size slices, crispy crust, and some tasty sausage as a topping. Their fries were good as well. I wouldn't rate it as the best pizza I've had but it is definitely above average in my book.

My husband and I have been going to Renato Pizza for over 20 years. When he moved to the area, he got an apartment in Swarthmore and Renato was just down the street. We've tried other pizza's but they have the best pizza in the area. My husband and I order either the white pizza with broccoli and ricotta or a red with sausage and onions. My children love their cheese pizza and won't let us order from any other pizza place. The staff is always friendly and accomodating.

this delivery place is actually really good. the student special (large pizza and a drink for $8) is great deal. i know grown men who miss this place dearly.

I would like to give a shout out to the white pizza with tomatoes, the mushroom pizza, and the Greek salad - so delicious. the guys who work here are awesome, too.

For college students on a budget, this is the perfect place to grab a late dinner while hitting the books. Pepperoni has never disappointed for the price. Better for delivery than for sitting in.

Order the artichoke marinara white pizza. I've probably had 100 of these since moving here. Always good.

Very limited seating, excellent prices, decent pizza, friendly service. The pizza has a good sturdy crust, but the sauce lacks some seasoning or something. Or maybe the crust does. I'm not really sure. But it was like $3 for pizza and lemonade. That's pretty sweet.

I moved to the area from Philly, but I'm originally from New York, so it's always hard for me to find good, New York style pizza outside of the NYC area. I tried 4 or 5 different places until I found Renato's. They have the best neopolitan style pizza I've had in Delco. Really love their Greek salad as well - loaded with veggies and feta cheese.

As someone who grew up in Swarthmore, I'm pretty much obligated to love Renato's. The pizza is mad good, especially when ordered by the slice. The cheesesteaks aren't my favorite, but are still tasty when I can't get into Philadelphia or Macdade. Milkshakes are great and I can't eat one of their cheesesteaks without craving a black and white. I also love the drink selection, you can't find Blue Pop just anywhere these days but Renato's has it.

By three stars, I really mean "3.5/3.75 stars." Look, after living a block and a half away from Slice, I'm spoiled. Sorry, folks. I'm not trying to crap all over Renato's, it just doesn't quite compare to Slice. Now that my disclaimer is out of the way, Renato's is the only pizza place I really trust in Delco. Personally, I'd rather have subpar toppings on an awesome crust than amazing toppings on a subpar crust. On that note, Renato's does me right. The crust is crunchy and chewy and plain old yummy. The toppings are better than what you typically find in the area, but they still aren't the most high-end. (i.e., Slice's Hawaiian pizza with prosciutto vs. Renato's Hawaiian pizza with regular ham) That's not to say that their pizza is bad, just that it could be a bit better. I also really wish that they consistently delivered out to Springfield area. They will occasionally deliver to my apartment, but usually only when we have a large order. Again, not the end of the world, but they have definitely lost business from us because of it. In case you're reading this, Renato's staff, it's nothing personal. We actually enjoy your pizza a lot. It's just that sometimes, the thought of swapping sweats for jeans and slippers for sneakers so we can go pick up the pizza is way too much effort for us. But you know, if you are reading this review, I would totally bump up my rating by a star if you guys expanded your delivery range. Please? Pretty please?

We were in the area just passing through. We wanted good pizza and followed the Yelp reviews here. We may be good pizza deprived as we live in the Baltimore suburbs but let me tell you this pizza was great! We bought the slice pizza and it had a awesome chewy just crisp crust. It looked as if it would be doughy but wasn't. They put our slices in the oven before serving. The cheese had the golden chewy texture and it was great! Wish the sauce was a bit more spicy but this pizza was delish. The italian ice on a 102 day was wonderful as well. Creamy and fresh. The guys working there were friendly. It has a small sit down area but well worth the visit. We would go again anytime.

My usual disclaimer applies, pizza is a very personal thing, I'll do my best to stay objective. Large thin style pizzas. Plain, sausage and mushroom are my favorites. The place is small and usually full of kids; to go may be the best option. If you get a slice in house, it is much bigger than a slice of their regular large pizza, one or two will do most folks for lunch. I've had at least one hundred of their pizzas over the years and it has become one of my favorite local pizzas. Very consistent. I highly recommend them.

Well, this place is a college pizza place. That means a few things: - there's a lot of grease - it's cheap - it is located conveniently near a college Greasy pizza can be good, however, and for the price Renato's comes through. Certainly better than the alternatives, and if you opt for the pricier options (read: buffalo chicken), you can get a quality pizza for cheap. Things to avoid: mushrooms - not even close to fresh. Unappetizing. trying to call after 11:30 - unfortunately the village of Swarthmore doesn't allow Renato's to be open after midnight Things to get: the Chicken Parmesan sub - most underrated item, delicious sausage pizza bacon and tomato pizza buffalo chicken pizza Again, you get what you pay for, but Renato's is good compared to Acapulco's and cheap compared to Peace A Pizza or Swarthmore Pizza.

Arriving for a late lunch in the Swarthmore area, we were pointed in the direction of Renato's by my best friend's family, who've lived in Swarthmore forever. I had the roast beef hoagie with sweet peppers and my husband had the cheese steak. Both were really good. The guy making the hoagies was friendly, but confused when I was back in there 20 minutes later to order a sandwich for my friend... definitely great local place while in Swarthmore.

Wonderful pizza. Renato's saves Swarthmore from becoming a complete culinary wreck of a town. The crust is awesome--not too thin, with the right combination of gluten-y chew and oven-baked crispness. I always get the broccoli and ricotta, but the regular vegetarian pizza is pretty good, too. The slices are huge and the prices are student-friendly.
