This place is great for a local "Mom and Pop" restaurant. The breakfast is always on time and never wrong, anyway you want it Taylor Haus will serve it up, and when the Sour Beef and Dumplings come....look out they make the trip even more worth it.

Now, those of you who have eaten anything other than breakfast there might disagree with me, and that is absolutely your right. But, let me enumerate a few things that make Taylor Haus the ultimate dining spot in Stewartstown: 1) This is the town meeting place. More policy gets debated here than at a borough council meeting. Those Old Turkey's sure know how to shoot the S***T! 2) It is Stewartstown's un-official retirement home. Though they are building one down where Fypon used to be before the immigrant raid, this is the real deal. Old-timer's schedule: breakfast 7-10, Home till 12, lunch 12-4, home till 6, dinner 6-9 ... rinse and repeat 3) Also unofficial police headquarters. If they aren't waiting at the spot just outside where the limit goes from 35 to 25, you know they'll be in here contemplating evidence. 4) Rosie ... I don't need to say anymore than that do I? 5) During hunting season, this place is a veritable forest. 6) The Breakfast ... though the coffee is certainly not the world's best , you have to believe that the chip beef gravy is! I hope you are all sold on the Taylor Hole!

When we first moved to the area, in the mid '90s, everyone said you have to try Taylor Haus. Best all you can eat broasted chicken in the world. And it was awfully good. I'm quite sure however they intentionally waited to ask you if you wanted another piece until it was almost too late to make your table wait for them to cook it. I'm sure this was planned. I haven't been there in a while but I do remember them as having great, home cooked style food. You got the chicken and all-you-can-eat salad with your basic croutons, bacon bits and Thousand Island dressing. Nothing really knocked your socks off but it was always very good, solid, wholesome American fare and lots of it. You couldn't complain. Even the basic slab of liver and side veg for lunch at least met my expectation. The '70s style paneling was never much to look at. I did get the impression this was a place for regulars. Old guys in John Deere caps sat over cups of joe and talked local politics- not my kinda thing. You were welcomed as an "outsider" but kept at a distance. Kinda felt they kept an "eye" on you if they didn't know you. That's okay- as far as I'm concerned, that's their business. You just won't find me there much. I've been hearing about the sour beef and dumplings special for years now. One of these days I'll get around to trying it.

My Family and I moved to Stewartstown last month and we have been exploring the restaurants in the area. This weekend we chose to try Taylor Haus just south of town on RT24. On pulling up it looks pretty old school with a walk up ice cream window in the front kinda like Friendlys or Dumsers. Entering through the side entrance the space is divided into a dining room and a less formal breakfast diner looking space. The wait staff are all pretty young giving the impression of a true family run restaurant. They were all very friendly as we're our fellow dinners as conversations were struck up from table to table. Definitely a very nice family atmosphere of genuine locals who all seem to know each other. On to the food. The menu is pretty traditional American Fare. I ordered the Turkey Platters and got exactly what I was looking for: a generous portion of thick sliced roast turkey covering a big scoop of stuffing with turkey gravy with sides of fries and apple sauce with cinnamon. My wife ordered one of the specials; a half Broasted Chicken. We'd been hearing about this since we moved up to PA, and decided to finally try it. So the idea is that its breaded liked fried chicken but cooked in a pressure cooker. So the concept itself produces a product that in our opinion is kinda neither here nor there. It's not fried chicken it's not roasted, its a big bowl of OK. This is not a criticism of Taylor at all, I think we just aren't going to be fans of Broasted Chicken. My 2 year old daughter wanted spaghetti and meatballs, they told us they were out of meatballs, we said OK anyway, then someone in the kitchen went out of their way to make her meatballs, which was very thoughtful and nice! Upon paying the check at the counter one of the waitresses asked how we liked it. I said it was all very good, to which she replied then you should come back for breakfast as that's what they are best known for. So we'll be making a point to give that a shot! As we left we noticed the marquis outside says they'll be having Sour Beef and Dumplings at the end of the month. Being a personal all time favorite of mine I'll be sure to check that out! The take away: Genuine friendly informal family local atmosphere with a menu to match. Well executed traditional American Menu at very reasonable prices.

I've been coming to the Taylor Haus for many years. It's an old-fashioned family-run diner, famous for breakfast and their periodic "sour beef and dumplings" special. They cater to the local farmers, big hearty eaters all. You see plenty John Deere caps here, and your neighboring patrons are very likely to engage you in conversation during the meal. Nice hard-working folks who gossip about each other and complain about the weather. The food is good and the portions are substantial. Don't expect great things, but a fine place to get cheap, decent family food in Southern PA. Warning: the Taylor Haus is a Baltimore Ravens leaning establishment! Eagles fans beware!

Stopped in for the pork and sauerkraut was majorly dissatisfied. We ordered a large portion it was so small that I asked if they brought a small portion by mistake. When it was put on our table they decided to put a foul smelling gravy all over my saurekraut , potatoes and put tiny slivered pork on top .The pork had no flavor what so ever , you could be eating paper for all you know .The sauerkraut had no taste and no broth .The potatoes were betty crocker no taste and no flavor. I would of had a better meal at Mc Donalds . The price of the meal $8.99 was way to much for the amount of food. Come on potatoes do not cost much and sauerkraut is a vey inexpensive food , and the tiny 1/8 cup of pork was not much . You have to ask for rolls and butter .And then they do not give them to you until your food comes . Two rolls and 2 packs of butter for 2 people guess they have a shortage . I for one will not be back . I asked why did you put gravy on my sauerkraut , my waitress said you have to ask not to have it put on , but no where on the menue does it say it comes stattered all over your saurekraut. Gravy was the only thing plentiful on the platter.

Service was good, but breakfast was not. The sign outside says 'worlds best coffee'... Should read worlds worst coffee! It was brown water that tasted like coffee. Seriously, worlds best? Wow, Starbucks watch out! Home fries were luke warm and came from a bag in the freezer. Hash browns were cold and tasted like cardboard. Omelettes... These were more of a crepe style, eggs were spread out on a griddle really thin, fillings thrown into center and then folded over on all 4 sides. My Denver omelette had no bell pepper but did have canned jalapeños. I like fresh jalapeños, not canned and not in a Denver... Would have been nice to know that before ordering. My wife's veggie omelette just looked distrusting ... Soggy wilted spinach clumped with canned tomatoes. Don't waste your money for breakfast or coffee here. If you actually liked the coffee, not sure how you can handle technology like Yelp. The 1 star is for the good service only.

Family owned. Wish I loved it. All breakfast items were tasteless Plus it took over an hour to get food. Most of the servers seemed to be family and worked hard. Unfortunately the kitchen makes one table at a time and does so slowly and poorly. One person had the lunch special which was better but included canned corn and gravy from a powder. With a little effort and skill food could be good.

I have good friends that live in Stewartstown; therefore, we visit the area often. My local friend had always said they went there when they first moved to the area 7 or 8 years ago and said they would never go back (they went for dinner). Well we decided to go there for breakfast on Labor Day and LOVED it!
