I travel from Baltimore, MD about once every two months to satisfy a taste for good old fashioned PA Dutch version of American favorite's. Some of these culinary wonders that evoke salivation at inconvenient moments are the thickened stewed tomato's that come as one of your three sides or an amazing twist as a substitute for sausage gravy on their Country Fried Steak. I usually get the salad bar as another one of my sides and another really cool twist on it that you don't find on other salad bars down my way is the pickled red beets (the way Mom did :), the chicken corn soup (the way my grandmother made it) or the apple-butter to smear generously on their excellent rolls. I'd also recommend their bread dressing (either as a side or with pork chops or carved chicken/turkey (can't remember what the protein was but I'll check on it and get back to ya'. Feel free to gaze upon the bakery section but I can't help you there (Mom's apple dumpling still wins out over theirs because she had a rum sauce that really carried the day and I haven't found anything analogous yet). It ain't French but Bon Appetit!

Arrived here for breakfast/brunch with friends. The restaurant is big enough for large groups and the service is quite good. Good, solid, and varied assortment of local fare. I decided on the brunch option. Standard stuff with local favorites. I liked the waffles and taters, especially. Just stay away from the New England clam chowder. It didn't taste that great after I took a couple spoons of it. The price for my meal is reasonable, and I would definitely come back to try the other menu items.

This fantastic restaurant fills its niche perfectly in this locale. The food is like home made and is always delicious. Waitresses and waiters have always been friendly and a pleasure to work with. If you're not from the area and want to see cooking here, this is your place.

Dependably good food, with generous portions. The soup & salad bar is good but small. Get the chicken.

Exactly what I was looking for! Solid, flavorful, fresh and plentiful! It really does not get any better then C.R. Lapp's for down home cooking. A bountiful menu of mom's home cooking (whether your mom was named Sara Stoltzfus or Mary Jo Miller) with something for everyone from fresh soups and salad bar to full blown meat and 'tatters entres. And to the point of is it truly 'Amish' cooking? Not completely sure you really know what that means. I lived in Lancaster for 21 years before moving to San Francisco for the last 30 and I don't know what that means. And btw, I'm not sure you'd be real happy at the dinner table of a 'genuine' Amish family. They really are not known for their culinary expertise. Lapp's is great food that fills the belly good!!

Tolerable diner food, although, despite its claims to the contrary, there is nothing authentically Amish about it. Service is good, and the place is always crowded. I've tried both breakfast and lunch here and both were decent, but I doubt I'll go back.

Stopped there for the first time today for lunch because a friend said they had good food. He was right. Chicken Corn soup was superb! BLT on rye toast was very good. Server was also very pleasant and good at her job! Will definitely go back.

Great breakfasts, excellent salad bar, and in general good family restaurant style food. Their cream dried beef and home fries is the best! To the guy from VA who disputes their Amish cooking...I wonder how many Amish meals he's eaten in order to compare? I don't understand what he thinks is missing, especially since the owner of this business was raised in the Amish religion, and there are several Amish ladies in the kitchen. All baked goods are Amish made as well. Overall this is the best Lancaster county Family restaurant I've eaten in.

I've been here 3-4 times a month for the past three months always for the same thing....their soup & salad bar. Just $6.95 for all you can eat. They have two soups at the salad bar plus Chicken Corn and usually Vegetable Beef that you can order off the menu. They post their specials daily on their website and their soup menu offerings are also listed on their website for the entire month in advance. Their New England Clam Chowder on some days can be too salty though. And their Seafood Chowder can vary on how much of one particular fish or shellfish is in it. I like it when they load it with bay scallops but unfortunately that hasn't happened in a while. Chili can be a little too heavy on the tomato paste side. Their Cheeseburger soup tastes just like a cheeseburger. Overall it's good and it's definitely homemade. I've had other menu offerings at times but being that I am a foodie it just doesn't cut it for me. Not that their food is bad, because it isn't, you just need to keep your expectations in perspective. This is a family restaurant with home style type cooking and that's what you're going to get. The hostess that seems to work almost every weekend I go is always pleasant and friendly. She now recognizes me and my family when we walk in which is a nice personal and welcome touch. 99% of the time the wait staff are pleasant. Every once in awhile one of the regular waitresses can be a little grumpy but overall the service is good and food comes quickly. I've never been here for breakfast so I can't comment on that, sorry!

Wings, wings, wings :) I am a big fan of wings and their all you can eat wings for lunch (~$9) is a good deal. I also added the salad bar (some healthy food) which had a nice variety. Took BBQ wings and mild- both had a nice kick and were cooked just right. French fries looked a little tired and with my wings and salad were left behind. My friends had their special of philly cheese steak and enjoyed it. Nice spot for a good lunch. Oh, and one of my friends had a woopie pie to go and he said it was great.
