Absolutely horrible! The waitress was the rudest we've ever encountered. We did not receive what we ordered and we were told "too bad, we're out of scallops" when we questioned them further about compensating us for not getting what we ordered the waitress said "we're out, what do you want us to do...go to the acme" the owner then came out & told us to leave if we didn't like it. Oh, we also waited over an hour for the food. Save your money and go somewhere else!

Had very high hopes for this highly rated restaurant, unfortunately, was a bit let down. The service is ho hum, but as a mom and pop operation, they know what they're talking about and are efficient. First time we came the service was ehh, second time it was very good. The food. Bread rolls were hot, and definitely hit the spot with our delicious beers, however, the blizzarding of garlic on it may be a bit much for some and will render most dates ending in the hug zone. The pasta fagioli was simple and very good, no complaints. Had the chicken with mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and a few other vegetables in a vodka sauce. The vodka sauce is definitely cream forward. The chicken and vegetables were cooked fairly well though. Some people LOVE this style while others dont. I like my ratio more on the tomato side. Though I became overly full, it was generally tasty. Friends ordered melanzane rollatini and a salmon dish. The salmon was definitely the frozen variety, not terrible, but really not that good. The sauces for their dishes are also very cream/fat forward. This is a great restaurant for those looking for a biiiiggg plate of pasta and meat loaded with sauce, that is a step up from the OG, and who are willing to pretty much call it quits for the night after dinner. Pretty good little italian spot in Lansdale. Worth trying for sure as there options may suit you just fine. Addendum: went again, improved service,

Because my friend Amber already left a review about our girl's night out, I'm not going into great detail but wanted to still comment on how disappointed I was with the end of our night. It was my first time there. I was already prepared that the owner may be there and isn't the friendliness from reading a reviews and hearing it from a couple of my friends that have gone there; however the food would be great. I have to agree, my meal was delicious (unfortunately 2 of my friends who got seafood in their meals were unhappy) and the appetizer was far from being appetizing. Our waitress was a sweetheart even if she forgot to put in our appetizer. What turned me off was the fact that the owner told the waitress she would either have to pay for the meals that were not very well liked as well as the appetizer or charge us for them. At the time of check out, the owner asked how everything was. We gave her our honest opinion, which she didn't like. If you don't want negative feedback, don't ask. We wanted to make her aware of the dishes that weren't enjoyed and the appetizer that was unappealing. She in return thought we were trying to get everything free, which was far from the case. At the same time, another waitress chimed in with a rude attitude. She had no business to say anything since she wasn't our waitress nor was standing at the register to be apart of the conversation. Up til that point, I was considering coming back because I thought it would be a good date night for me and my boyfriend; however, if the owner doesn't care about about customer service, I will certainly am not going to give them business and will spread the word to my friend and family to stay far away from that place.

We went there tonight and wow it was possibly the worst experience we ever had! The place looks creepy and dirty. The bathroom was disgusting( I should of ran just seeing that) but heard it was supposed to be good. So, first the menu says" no splitting dinners" how rude! Some restaurants just charge extra but it gets worse. Finally we ordered and the dinner rolls came out, way to much oil and garlic! Nasty! Then our food came. I ordered chicken Parm and my husband ordered pasta. We both started eating and at the same time we said " this tastes like tomato paste with water a spices!! We asked to speak with the manager and she actually suggested, since we are picky sauce people- her words we should've ask to try the sauce before we ordered! Outrageous right! She basically offered nothing even though we asked to maybe try something else. The waiter was sweet and offered to buy my dinner ! She said " no" just told us we don't have to Come back! We paid and left the lousy food! Sorry but their sauce is not homemade! Ragu tastes better and their prices are very high for lousy dirty restaurant

The food here comes in very large portions (honestly I think if they lowered the portion size and price a bit they would be doing everyone a favor). The dishes we got were pretty tasty but a bit heavily sauced. The major point that stands out to me still though is the ambiance. This place is just kinda weird and a bit creepy. First of all as another reviewer mentioned it is alllll peach colored including most of the napkins (we got a few of the green). Then to top it all off there are a whole bunch of different collections scattered around including a bunch of creepy dolls. Also, when we were there only about half of the lights were on (not sure why) which made the whole place seem a little dingy. Overall, it seemed like the place was a bit stuck in the 80's in the beginning stage of hoarding which is not at all what you would expect from the exterior. Certainly not the worst place I have ever been too and I would probably go back but it definitely would not be my first choice.

I have to agree with every negative review regarding the attitude of, and treatment by, the owners and staff. They would not reheat the cold portions of our dinners, saying: "the kitchen is too busy!" Even speaking with the OWNER (that mean "mother") did not help.

I have been to La Campagnola 3 times, and have raved about the food there since the first time I went. However, last night might have to be the last time I ever go there, which is unfortunate, because I will dream about the Chicken Frank Sinatra!! The service is terrible. We were a table of 7 and it's a BYOB - they couldn't come up with more than 2 ice buckets for our wine bottles. How is this possible? Our waitress was very sweet, however, the owner (possibly cook too?) should be ashamed of her own behavior. The waitress forgot to put our stuffed mushroom order in, and so we requested it later and were told that they only had enough mushrooms for 2 orders. They are supposed to be crab and spinach stuffed mushrooms. My boyfriend and I had them the first time we were there, and they were great. This time, I don't know if they really didn't have the ingredients needed and were just trying to put something together, but they should have just said they couldn't accomodate the order. There was no crab in the mushrooms and it tasted like they were filled with stovetop. When we asked the waitress to bring the manager about it (and also because both people who ordered seafood were not happy with the overdoneness of their order AND the quality of their orders and didnt put a dent in their plates) the owner said that she would not come to the table, and told the waitress that she could pay for the mushrooms our of her tip, or charge the table. The owner then rung us up and asked how the food was, and we told her, and she accused us of wanting to get all of our meals for free. She even allowed another waitress who wasn't even serving our table to chime in about how if the food was so bad, we should have "said something after the first bite." I'm assuming that this other waitress is a family member or something, because I have seen her in action and she clearly doesn't care about her job. Talking on the phone in front of customers, catering to friends or maybe regulars instead of trying to serve people to build more regulars...she's a mess. So, yea...I don't think I can justify putting anymore money into this family's pockets. If they can't handle feedback, they shouldn't be in the restaurant business. No one was trying to stiff them, but there were two people who had a completely ruined dinner, and they didn't address this at all.

Food excellent, 1800 year old lady who has her grandchildren package the takeout, never smiles and makes you feel she is doing you a favor letting you eat there not so good. Food five stars old lady one star.

I went here last week for lunch. The portions were huge and the good was good. They were not busy at all and the waitress was very sweet. I would eat here again! They do serve a bread that would be much better served warm, but this place is one of the better Italian places in the area.

One word.....PEACH. I hate saying decor matters in a Restaurant, but sometimes it does. Peach walls, peach chairs, peach linens...ugh. Really a lot of great potential in terms of decor. From the outside the place looks great, modern and clean. Inside it is clean and romantic....but too peach. There is much room for interior decorating improvement. Ok to the food....good...not the best Italian I've had in the burbs but certainly worth the price and tasty. Of course the only dishes I can discuss are what was ordered. The Penne Arcobelano (Penne with crab meat in a blush cream sauce) was a bit on the heavy side and the crab meat was sporadic at best. It was flavorful but not memorable. The portions were generous and it actually tasted a little better the next day re-heated for lunch. My partner got the Gamberi Francese (shrimp with a lemon wine sauce) which was excellent. Very flavorful and I found myself wanting more of hers than mine. The portions were also very generous. Really a great dish. Service was good, and interesting. Very personable, may too personable, but I was playing along and having fun with the staff, so I think they picked up on that. We arrived late and the place was slowing down for the evening, so it is hard to give a fair assessment if you go during the busy times. Finally, this is BYO!!!! A great thing that should be promoted more by the restaurant. They also need to work on the web site...could be better...but there are online coupons which is a big plus in my book. Overall, a good meal and at a very fair price. They need to re-do the decor, but I would return there again and recommend it for a nice BYO dinner.

Went here with some friends on a Saturday night. A diner-esque BYOB that serves up tasty, and over sized, Italian dishes. An ancillary glance at the menu will show your typical Italian fare: pasta, pollo, veal, and seafood. Although, bruschetta is regretably missing... I wasn't impressed with the calamari (I thought it tasted bland) but the rest of my party enjoyed it. I wish we had tried the stuffed mushrooms (Funghi Ripieni) but perhaps another time. I recommend the Chicken (or Veal if you so choose) Capricciosa. It's sauteed with sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, and HUGE roasted red peppers. A very tasty dish and well worth the under-$20 price tag. As if the 16-in plate wasn't enough to fill you up, you also get a side of pasta. This place is fit for families and romantic diners alike.

Food is good and oversized. But it's pricey for the quality and the service. Family who owns and runs the business is very unfriendly. They have coupons on their website but every time we go they say they are expired. It's false advertisement. You would think that a family owned business would be more appreciative of getting business. They act like you should be glad they let you eat there. Garlic rolls are awesome though.

I was finally able to eat here again. I went on 1/7/10 and it was just as I remembered it (although a bit updated and remodeled a bit). The garlic bread was amazing, as usual but I think they over-did it on the oil! Nonetheless, it was still amazing! The fried calamari was really good, but I missed seeing the squid heads (or whatever they are called) with the rounds. Very good, otherwise. My friend had the veal parm with angel hair. He enjoyed it! I ordered the special - the Chicken A la Sinatra (I believe that's what it was) and wow -- this was amazing. The sundried tomatoes were SO fresh, I bet they were done on the premises. Artichokes were flavorful & light. Mushrooms were delish, shrimp was HUGE and the scallops were cooked perfectly. The chicken was stuffed with some sort of crabmeat stuffing (wasn't sure exactly) and let me tell you, they give you enough where 2 people could share. It was HUGE! Overall another wonderful dining experience. This time, I will head back sooner than 4 yrs later!

My family has eaten here many times over the years as the food is really good. They serve you alot of food and you always had leftovers for the next day. BUT we stopped going there as the "old lady" who owns and runs the place is miserable and was EXTREMELY rude to all of us. She has no people skills and since she seems to always be there we stopped going there as well as many of our friends. We certainly have enjoyed the food and had some really good times there but it's not worth being treated so badly.

I come here every time I visit my friend in PA. My 5 Star review is for the Chicken Frank Sinatra and Chicken Marsala. The Chicken Frank Sinatra is amazing, so much food, so delicious! I order the Chicken Marsala at every Italian restaurant I eat at; to test to see if the food is good. That being said (written), I've ordered the Chicken Marsala a few times and it never disappoints! The waitstaff is attentive and courteous. Like a previous reviewer wrote, the decor is very PEACH - but that doesn't bother me since the food is slammin'. Headed back to PA next week and definitely hitting this spot again! Will update my review then!

The first thing that I loved was the fact that I could bring my own bottle of wine! The menu had a great selection and creative specials. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and she told us that we would love the garlic and tomato rolls (we did)! It is great place for either a cozy dinner for 2 or a group of friends. We would definitely go back.

I couldn't believe this place. I went with my wife and ordered the chicken parm. As it was coming out I saw another table with a man, women and teenage sending theirs back. Kind of made me wonder. I cut a piece off of it and smelled it first and it smelled like rotten eggs. Needless to say I did not eat it. As I sent mine back the other table went to the register. I was sitting kind of close to it and the man said he should not have to pay for it they did not eat it. They went and got the owner lady and boy was she nasty. She said there is nothing wrong with there food and to bad you did not like it. The man said he was going to put it on Yelp and the lady said she did not care. Gave me the idea to do the same. Made me realize I did not want to even say anything. People I caution you to stay away. This was the worst rest I have ever been to and for an owner to get that defensive and not care well it goes to show. I guess I should have known when they have a 10 coupon on there site. Also the menu up on Yelp is so out of date. The prices are about 3-4 more dollars per meal than the menu listed. I really hope the other table cautions people. I only wish I had heard them complain when I walked in to save $40. UPDATE: After I posted this the La Campagnola posted a thank you about telling them menu was outdated. No comment back saying sorry bad night or anything like that so it is pretty obvious my review was dead on and they do not care at all

La Campagnola is one of my favorite local restaurants. It's family run and the food tastes homemade. The gravy is amazing! I love the warm bread they bring to the table before the meal. I normally order the Eggplant Rollatini-- it's amazing. The servers are all family members and they are super friendly! I definitely recommend this place!

I've been eating at La Campaignola since it opened years ago, and the food has been spectacular at each and every meal. The waitstaff has been friendly and attentive, the portions are always huge. Just beware of reservations for holidays, Valentine's 2009 was a chaotic mess resulting in an almost two hour wait for a table that was reserved (which is why I knocked a star off). Aside from that I have nothing but praise for this restaurant.

I like this place, from the moment you pull into the parking area you feel you are entering a place with a bit of class, unlike the rest of Lansdale. The formal rear facing entrance is very inviting, especially if you are a first timer, and you are greeted by one of the charming staffers. The dining room, although a bit dated, is arranged so almost every table seems like a private nook. You should bring a bottle of wine with you, but if you don't they will give you a complimentary glass which I thought was a top shelf move on their part. The menu is traditional Italian, with all of your favorite offerings in place. Kudos for the available lobster stuffed raviolis, one of my favorite all time dishes. The portions are on the generous side but do not include a salad, which I found a bit unusual for an establishment of this scale. Their bread is hot, fresh and right out of the oven served with what seemed to be an olive oil/garlic/pepper pesto. The high lite of the meal is their gravy, which is on the sweeter side and is one of the most enjoyable sauces I have ever encountered. Bravo.. I enjoyed my meal and am happy to recommend La Campagnola, I will return.

So I had to give this restaurant a star or it would not let me post this review. I have never eaten here because when I called on a Sunday to make reservations on a Monday the woman on the phone asked me if I had a groupon which I said I did and she said no no no no groupons one Sunday and I told her mayb she should have put that on the groupon then she started yelling at me because I said that ( I am not making this up) the groupon only states that it could not be used on a federal holiday unless April 12th is some kind of federal holiday which I am not aware of anyway I explain that I was calling to make reservations for Monday again she yells no no no we r not open on Monday I then explained that I was looking at there website which states that they r open Monday and again she starts yelling at me again ...so I tell her I will come in on Tuesday @7 pm two seconds later she calls me back yelling again that I gave her two different times at this point I'm like no way will I go to this place if she treated me so bad on the phone I can only imagine what she would do to my food ....actually it is kinda of funny I mean if ur in the hospitality industry shouldn't u b hospitable???? Oh well save ur self a trip go to a place that wants ur business

Went here Saturday night with my fiancee and another couple. I was hoping that the experience would've been a good one, but the only thing that made it good was the company. Right off the bat we were told we would get water, and that took 10 minutes. Our table was right in the middle of a room that had 3 larger parties, which didn't make me happy since the whole room was loud. The one good thing our waitress did was take our order before the larger parties so we wouldn't have to wait forever for food. I had asked for an unsweetened iced tea, but the waitress never heard me apparently, since I never received it. I noticed that our waitress was wearing flip flops, which made me cringe. Talk about unsanitary. My fiancee also tried to get her attention several times by nicely saying 'excuse me' and the waitress turned around and looked right at him and said, with attitude, 'I heard you'. Needless to say, despite the good food, I will not be returning here any time soon.

I have never felt so unwelcomed walking into a restaurant. The owners wife barely lifted her head out of the salad bar to acknowledge us and then finally asked "can I help you?" When I asked for a table for 5 she tried to seat us at a small booth and give us a chair to put on the end. This was not going to accommodate 2 adults and 3 large teenagers. I asked if we could have a larger table. She said no, the rest of the restaurant was for reservations. This was 6:30 on a Thursday night. The open section of this place was not even full let alone the entire other part of the restaurant. I told her no thank you but it wouldn't work, she just shrugged her shoulders and let us walk out the door. A man in the parking lot saw me and said "you left too?". Obviously his experience was worse than mine. I have heard complaints over the years about how the owners treat their customers (don't try to send anything back!) but for convenience sake have taking my kids here because they like the garlic bread. Needless to say, they are loosing local customers based on poor treatment and so-so food.

Horrific!!! May have been the strangest dining experience of my life. The decor should have been a sign but typically this type of place is redeemed by its food. NOT THE CASE! Chicken francese was burnt. It looked more like a marsala sauce than a lemon wine. Pink vodka sauce was the worst I've ever had. No flavor. Time to update the chef along with the decor. To top it all off, our waiter was new..to the idea of being a waiter. Didn't seem like he had any idea what he was doing..didn't know the menu and had to read our orders off the menu. He was adorable however so I couldn't blame him completely. However, i have no problem blaming the woman who i would assume was the manager. Tip: dont yell at staff in front of the customer and dont yell at them in what sounded like a mash up of english and italian when they clearly dont speak italian. First time..last time.

OK, the food is very reasonable in price and fair to middlin' in taste and quality. The menu includes some nice home-style Italian faves. It's the type of place you grab a bottle from your wine rack at home, jump in the car, and go enjoy an impromptu night at this Mom and Pop operation. Pop is in the kitchen throwing together mass quantities of food and Mom is out among the Friday night half-filled restaurant looking like she is hating every minute being there. Her miserable puss exudes a bad vibe throughout the restaurant. One time I was there, Mom was having a shouting match with one of the servers in front of the customers, to which the server exited on the spot. It was a most uncomfortable evening. So I waited awhile to go back. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo grabbed my attention and the nice spice hit the spot. Dinner Rolls buried in garlic and oil are just leaving my taste buds 3 days later...overkill there. The salad which was included might as well not be... iceberg lettuce and a dab of Italian dressing sitting in a tiny puddle in the middle of the salad doesn't do it for me. Service is OK. The girls are working their butts off. I guess they don't want to face the wrath of Mom.

Grumpy employees, the food was horrible along with the service. I ordered the chicken dish which was still frozen in the middle topped with mushrooms straight out of a can. Yuck !!!! I can not believe this restaurant is still open they should be shut down by the health inspectors for horrible food. Authentic Italian my behind! Not many people at the restaurant on a Thursday night and now I know why !

We have a Groupon coupon that is good for an appetizer up to the value of $12.99 and two entrees up to the value of $18.99 each. As we were about to order, the waitress told us they ran out of seafood. This limited our selections to chicken and pasta since all their veal dishes are over 18.99. They won't even allow us to pay for the differences to get the higher price meal. We also ordered the mussel appetizer which they only have enough for two dishes. When they served the dish, it only has five mussels on it. For the price of $10.99, I was expecting to have more than 5 mussels on the plate. We are very disappointed them and won't go back again.

I've been going to this place for years and everything I have here is great. The penne with pink vodka sauce is really top notch. I also like the atmosphere - it's like being in your grandmother's dining room in Italy.

My family and I ate here last night only because we had a Groupon coupon. Our coupon was for two appetizers and four meals. When it came time to order we were told that we could only pick appetizers with a price up to $ 9.99 and entrees up to $ 18.99. Sounds reasonable - right??? Upon looking at the menu the prices a great deal of the entrees had been changed - via white out- to $ 19.99. Thus making them not part of the coupon. When asked if we could purchase those meals and just pay the difference we were told that was not allowed. What??? After all of this the food was only average. The waitress was the only shining star in the whole experience- very friendly and upbeat.

I can forgive the poor service, lack luster food, and even the head to toe pink decor of this outdated joint, but the poor business practices of the owner I cannot. The only reason I decided to give this place a try (after hearing stories from others) was because I had a restaurant.com gift certificate. It came to my surprise after finishing our meal that this place refused to accept our gift certificate. They gave us two reasons for not accepting the coupon, neither of which were indicated on the certificate in writing. The first reason was that we didn't tell them "when we first walked in" that we had this gift certificate. (I wonder if they would do that if it was a regular gift certificate??) The second reason was because they don't accept the rest.com gift certificate for "specials" which it does not say in the policy upon purchase, and we didn't order a "special." I ordered off of a permanent list of entrees on the regular dinner menu entitled "house specials." Message to the owner-Learn to value customers or you wont have any. First and last time I will eat here.

Let me start off by saying that we have either eaten in this restaurant or ordered take-out a few times a year since they've opened more than a decade ago. But after my experience last night I will never set foot in there again. Part of the "ambiance" was enduring the miserable owner yelling at her kids (who have all worked there) in Italian. Their food was always decent (my husband loved their sauce) although the quality of some things has slid in the past couple of years. Anyway, back to last night. My husband, son and I got there at 7:15 and noticed when we walked by the fingerprint coated glass door was that there was no one else in the restaurant. Ok, weird but no biggie. We were seated at our table and I saw that my napkin was stained and my husband's bread plate already had remnants of olive oil on it. Not thrilled but we just switched plates with another empty table. When our waitress came over I mentioned our Groupon as instructed. She replied that they only take Groupons on Tuesday and Wednesday. I calmly explained that the only restriction indicated on the Groupon were federal holidays and our Groupon expires this coming Monday. April 23rd is not a holiday by the way. She said sorry, we can't take it. So I asked to speak with her mother, the owner. Now the owner is a woman that NEVER acknowledges you with a hello or God forbid a SMILE when you patronize her business. So I kind of knew that we were in for a treat. She shows up at our table, and while I'm explaining my trouble understanding why she won't honor our Groupon, she throws up her hands and starts yelling at us! I try showing her the Groupon which does not state her restrictions and explain that it really isn't cool to make up arbitrary rules and she completely ignores us and continues yelling and shaking her head no. So we decide to leave. On the way out her husband (who is huge) comes out and BLOCKS THE EXIT so he can YELL at us! Then he proceeds to go on a tirade about Groupon and how Groupon is F***ing them (while saying this he bends over and simulates the process!), and how they don't get paid by Groupon and its not fair to them. Again, this is not our problem as we have no control over their payments. Then the wife takes me to a sign scribbled at the very bottom of a board facing AWAY from the entrance door that says "Groupon on Tuesday and Wednesday only". Now had she calmly directed me to that out of the way sign in the beginning of the conversation I would have been annoyed but I would have dealt with it. However, their piss poor and aggressively argumentative treatment has sealed the deal that La Campagnola is the last place I would venture to again. And I think it explains why when we left there were only 2 other people in the entire place. Drive another 5 minutes to Toscano for better food and a friendly owner. That's where we went when we left our miserable experience last night.

My wife and I were regular patrons to the restaurant but not in the past two years. All of the recent posts echo our experience. Mad owner yelling at her daughters, daughters changing their infants diapers in a booth and always a new male server who was overwhelmed with criticism from the mafia. Father seemed descent but they kept him in the kitchen cooking with red wine. They could not accept any criticism. Wonder how they have survived.

It's just amazing how they are still in business with the way they treat their customers. They must have a huge family that supports the restaurant or some other type of revenue stream that keeps it afloat.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
