We've been here quite a few times over the last few months. When they first opened the food was outstanding. We would tell everyone in the area about how great the food here was. The samsa was fresh, flaky and flavorful. The herring was high quality with fluffy mashed potatoes, and the stuffed cabbage and borsch were delicious. We've been back to the area and decided to try it again and boy were we disappointed. The borsch was cold, the cabbage was watery and the herring was tasteless and the samsa was tough and chewy. So disappointed...

My wife and I live in a (partly) Russian neighborhood in Brooklyn, and the food at Vostochniy Palace was as good as, if not better, than what we can find around our home. The waitress was also unfailingly helpful and friendly, and was able to handle multiple large tables at once without missing a beat. We enjoyed our lunch so much that we ordered more food to go, and heated it up later for dinner. Next time we're in northeast PA, we'll be purposely detouring through Hawley to eat here again.

I was on vacation in the Lake Wallenpaupack Region and this is by far the best Eastern European food. The Perogies were out of this world and the beef stroganoff was moist and tender. Also BYOB applies here. The hidden gem within Hawley!

Recently opened, the Vostochniy Palace Cafe has some of the tastiest food I've had in the area. The prices are very reasonable. Lunch for three, with three main dishes, two soups and an appetizer came to $40. For mains, we ordered stuffed cabbage, plov (meat, rice and carrot), and beef stroganoff with a side of buckweat. The stuffed cabbage was about, if not the, best stuff cabbage I've ever had. Three came to an order for $6. For our starter courses, we had hot borsh, dumlings in chicken broth, and samsa (baked ground lamb with onion in dough. They are open 10 am - 9 pm Monday to Saturday and noon to 7 pm on Sunday. They do take out. Because they are so new, their menu seems to be in a bit of flux. A patron that came in after us commented to the waitress that several of the dishes he enjoyed were discontinued from the menu. All in all, I was very impressed with Vostochniy Palace Cafe. The food was tasty, the prices were reasonable. I'll definitely stop back next time I'm in Wayne County.

Such a great little restaurant in the middle of a small town! The food was very good and the price is well worth it. Staff is friendly as well. Oh, and the 70's music station in the background just completed the experience.

Very delicious food. We shared the Borch soup, grape leaves, stuffed cabbage and a chicken kabob and we would order all of it again! Fresh homemade food. Will be coming back!

What a wonderful new addition to restaurants in our region. Our party of 4 had a great time sharing dishes and trying everything on the menu. Each dish from appetizers, soups and salads through the fantastic entrees was a hit. Friendly, professional service and a charming environment. We'll be going back again and again. Extremely reasonable price range for the excellent quality. Enjoy!

VPC does not disappoint! Excellent food, lovely Staff -- a warm and inviting experience all around. Say hello to Ben! Many thanks to the Chef for creating a meal that brought us back to some favorite restaurants in St Petersburg and Moscow!

I've been here twice and I really do enjoy the food. I've had the plov two different ways, the lamb kebab, all of the apps have been great, really enjoyed the samsa. It's a very affordable option with fresh food that is different than the pub and pizza places found around the area. We've brought bottles of vodka one time and wine the next. I do enjoy BYOB places and with good food to match I'll be back again.

Fantastic little cafe in Hawley. The family that runs the place is straight from the Ukraine. Very friendly and accommodating. The menu is authentic as it comes, and quite inexpensive which allowed us to try many things. The mushroom soup was absolutely delicious! We had a lil o everything including soup, Plov, pierogi, stuffed cabbage, chicken skewer, and a flaky pastry filled with garlic and cheese(can't remember what it's called). Very clean place. Perfect for a tasty European meal.

The food in the Poconos is getting better! Over the last 20 years I have suffered through some pretty mediocre meals. Things are looking up. While staying in Hawley and we decided to try Vostochniy and it was great. The prices were cheap enough that you could try a lot of stuff. We ordered Perogies, Borsht, stuffed Cabbage, a lamb Kabab and a grain dish. Everything was very good and a little different than what I was use to. The Borscht was hot and had more cabbage than beets. It also has tender chunks of pork. The stuffed cabbage and Perogies were also deliciously diferent. This place is worth a try. The staff was very friendly and accurately explained the menu. Our bill was about $40. I wish we had one on Long Island.

. We were expecting much more due to the high rating. Two foodies from New York with a weekend house close by. It is BYOB, but we were never told when making reservations Borscht was only watery hot cabbage soup. My wife ordered the stuffed cabbage and got a large portion of cold cabbage and rice, no meat in sight. My beef stroganoff was OK but cold. I chose the lo mein noodles as a side. Very strange to see lo men on a eastern European menu. Flat egg noodles would be a better option. Drinks are out of a deli cooler. Good: clean, attentive staff. Low prices. Bad: food was served cold and not as expected. We will not return.

Went here in July when visiting my grandma with my mom and aunt. We're Russian and thought this place would bring back memories to my mom and aunt from when their relatives would make homemade stuffed cabbage, pierogis, and beet soup. Let me tell you this place was amazing and brought back so many memories of homemade meals. We all got a starter and a meal and the bill was cheap! Such great food and can definitely tell it was homemade. When we come back to pa to visit my grandma we are definitely coming back here.

I'm writing this with a joyfully content full stomach. I drive 30 miles just to come and enjoy a real authentic Eastern European dish. Their crepes with cheese are like my momma's. Their lamb kebab melts in your mouth. I happily ordered their delicious "Napoleon" cake to split with my sister... Which after the first bite I regretted the split. Amazing!!! Get a side of coffee. Worth the drive! The waitress is a sweetheart too. Great atmosphere.
