Stopped at this diner while passing through Hawley. We were greeted by the "hostess" who invited us to sit anywhere we wanted. Because my husband is 6'04", we took a seat at the largest booth. A waitress immediately came over and told us that we had to move because the booth was reserved for parties of 5 or more. She directed us to another booth which was considerably smaller, therefore my husband was forced to sit sideways to accommodate for the length of his legs. The entire experience was laughable. They poured us coffee, but provided to cream. The wait staff was rude and could not be less welcoming and the food was mediocre, at best. The "homemade cheese sauce" that is served atop the vegetable omelette was a watered down version of melted American cheese and I won't even mention that they were "out" of scrapple. Perhaps living in the diner Capitol of the U.S. has jaded my threshold of what qualifies a diner as "the best" but this dump can't compete with the worst of what NJ has to offer. This diner is old and dirty and clearly caters to their locals. Thanks for nothing Hawley Diner. We will take our business elsewhere.

Good diner food. Stayed by the lake for a wedding, and this was the first b-fast place we found. Hash and eggs were good, French toast was thick and fluffy, and the potatoes were tasty. Western omelette got the worst reviews in our party, but was still finished.

This is the classic diner experience, right down to the loud banter between the middle-aged waitress and the middle-aged regulars. It's small, and the booths are a bit of a tight fit, but it's like stepping back into the 1950s. Or 1980s, as there's a fully-functioning Pac-Man machine by the door. The food was freshly made and quite tasty; what I really liked is that they serve you human portions, not like so many diners today that bring out a 14" diameter plate overflowing with more food than even Joey Chestnut could eat in one sitting. And the reasonable portions were reflected in the prices, so two people can easily eat an entire dinner, including dessert, for less than $30. I had a chocolate shake for dessert, and it was done old-school, with the waitress bringing the glass full of shake, and leaving the mixing can with the other half of it. And it was probably the best shake I've had in many years. My wife's lemon meringue pie was clearly homemade and very fresh. So if you prefer more genteel surroundings, go to Settler's Inn. If you want a good bang for your buck and some classic eats, the Hawley Diner will not disappoint. Next time we're going for breakfast, as I've been told that their Belgian Waffle is second to none.

This was quite possibly the most disgusting diner I have ever been in. The waitresses had food all over their clothes, the food was cold, the decor was old and dirty. Everything about this diner shouted, "I haven't been fixed up or cleaned since the 1960's". I will starve before I eat in this haven of dirt and filth. When we were walking out we told other customers that it was horrible. The breakfast said it came with lettuce and tomato, well there was a 3 x 1/2 inch square pieces of lettuce on the plate, and no tomato. I complained but the waitress said that was all I could expect. Don't eat here, ever.

Great SOS (biscuits and gravy). The kids loved it so much we went back during our stay. The waitresses were super friendly

This is what a god damn diner is supposed to be like! They serve all of the essentials that you'd expect from a diner. The food isn't complex or extravagant... but its just how a diner is supposed to be. The clientele are locals that have been going there for many years. They are extremely friendly for the most part. The staff are the stereotypical waitresses that you'd see in a movie. Warm personalities and always one hand holding a pot of coffee. If you're in Hawley, you need to stop in and at least get some coffee.

I love this diner. Every time we pass through Hawley this is where we stop for lunch. The waitresses are a hoot and, yes, always ready with a coffee refill. The food is typical diner, which is exactly what you would want. And the prices are way cheap for the food, service and quality of it all. A four-wheel-driver's dream come true!

Wow, they sure know how to make you feel like an outsider there. I went in to the Hawley diner yesterday and was definitely made to feel as uncomfortable as possible. Although the waitress was very friendly to all the "locals". I am glad I got a taste of Hawley hospitality there first, before I bought property there. Thanks Hawley residents for the warm reception. I appreciate the heads up on the attitude before moving there. Also the restaurant was filthy inside and out. Looked like it hadnt been attended to for months.

There is a very nice hotel located in the town of Hawley, the Falls Port Inn: thefallsportinnandrestau… . I was told that you receive a voucher for a complimentary breakfast at the Hawley Diner if you are one of their guests. Especially times like these, every little bit helps - and the Hawley Diner is a great place to stop to start your day!!

I've had breakfast here several times. Everything is always good. Waffle is excellent. Could be a little cleaner and updated a little. Sometimes the sun is really strong if you are sitting in the front room and the booths can be tight. Friendly service.

I always eat here when I visit family. Reminds me of staten island diners. Love it. Nice people and crappy decor lol

We stopped here for breakfast because it was close and the the other reviews made it look like a good place to go. I wish we had just kept driving. I was hoping it would just look bad but the food would be amazing like many hometown diners I've been to. Unfortunately, this diner was disappointing. The menu options are limited and the quality is pretty low. We spent $22 for two bad to mediocre breakfasts, a lot to pay for what we got. The potatoes looked like they should have been thrown out two hours ago. This might be the punishment for not paying extra for hash browns (which I would recommend doing). The kielbasa, eggs and omelette were good. The jelly was off brand. Even the coffee was rough! The service was inattentive so we tipped less than our usual 20%. This diner claims to have the best breakfast in the Poconos but I disagree. There has to be a better breakfast in the whole Pocono region. Has to be. The diner looks rough like most other reviews had mentioned. I'm willing to forgive a lot for hometown diners appearance when the rest of the experience more than makes up for outdated or worn. Quality and customer service can go a long way to make a dining experience memorable. All the areas that we experienced issues with can be fixed or improved upon. Hopefully they'll make some changes for the better.

Went in around 11:30 Sunday morning and the place was packed. Decided to pass on the traditional breakfast and ordered stuffed french toast: sweet cream cheese between 2 slices of french toast. I topped it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and was pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. The toast was slightly crispy on the outside and perfectly textured inside, with just the right amount of cinnamon--very little. The cream cheese was proportioned perfectly and I could just make out a hint of lemon. Tried some syrup on my third slice and did not like the syrup, so I quickly moved on to my last, no syrup, savory bite. Service was great, all 14 of us enjoyed our meal.

Nothing too spectacular, however the food & service were both good. The prices are low as well. Worth stopping at for breakfast.

What a great little diner. Kids and I stopped for breakfast and left very happy. The staff couldn't have been nicer, portions were great and the price was right. We will be back!

Okay for breakfast. Downtown diner, full of townies. Good waffles and coffee. Probably the best place for breakfast in Hawley.

The Good: 1. The waitress was really sweet and pleasant. I could probably go out for a beer with her and she'd amuse me for at least an hour. I liked her. 2. There was no wait for seating on a Saturday afternoon. 3. Prices were very reasonable. 4. Location. This is located very centrally in Hawley. It's a neat little strip for tourists and locals. 5. There really aren't a lot of better places to eat in the area. 6. The fries are good. The Bad: 1. Decor. This place looks kinda run down. My table was dirty when I sat down, and I had to wipe pieces of food off of it and onto the floor. You seat yourself -- there's no host or hostess to seat you. 2. Service. Although my waitress was really nice, she forgot several things, including someones drink and someone's side dish. When she brought out the drink, she forgot who had ordered it, even though that person had already asked for it twice. The forgotten side dish came out just as we were paying our check. Still, we liked her. Personality gets you far. 3. The food. Really... I got some kind of turkey sandwich and I wasnt impressed. Very standard, and sort of fell apart cause of all the iceburg lettuce. The menu was sorely lacking in choices. It's really basic food and you won't find anything innovative or very unique. I've come to expect large expansive menus from diners, with 10 varieties of omelettes and 5 kinds of pancakes and 5 kinds of waffles and 20 kinds of wraps. You won't find that kind of variety here at all. 4. Cleanliness. The men's room was dirty and the urinal was out of order. My table was dirty when I sat down. I hope the kitchen is cleaner.

My husband and I decided to take a trip out to the Hawley Diner last week. We hadn't been there in a few years. We were very disappointed. My husbands breakfast dish was cold and eggs under cooked. Potatoes seemed to be reheated leftovers and were very dry. My waffle was cold too. The waitress was pleasant and efficient.

Standard diner fare. Nice and comfortable atmosphere. I expected a diner and a diner is what we got! Nothing special but nothing bad either. Great place to stop in for a quick bite!

My favorite stop in the area. This is the place for a quality breakfast. The waffles are extraordinary and the French Toast was very tasty. Very friendly waitress and very helpful. Sure beats fast food of any kind.

Best Belgian Waffles on the planet! Great old fashion diner that not only has great breakfast, but good sandwiches, burgers, and chicken. Food comes out fast!
