Ate at Settlers Inn when we stayed in the Poconos. Loved the old decor and feel of the restaurant. The food was pretty good too.

Anniversary Dinner 10/26 We stayed at their sister property (The Ledges) and had always wanted to dine at The Settlers Inn. Other than the room itself being slightly noisy (the acoustics, not the guests) EVERYTHING was perfect. Firstly, they decorated their lobby with several pumpkins that were all lit up to bring that Harvest vibe. We loved the craftsmen style decor and place settings. It seemed strange to us that there appeared to be just one waiter. We shared the French Onion soup and the Pork Belly appetizers. Entrees were the Petite Filet and Scallops, too full for dessert but would not change a thing. Great restaurant and place to stay. We even enjoyed post dinner cocktails with Bart the bartender which helped to top off our evening in style. Can't wait to return to Hawley.

My fiancé and I just randomly stopped by this place for dinner without looking it up at all. At first we were kind of shocked by how it looked inside then by the prices in the menu (very expensive). We considered leaving but decided we would give it a shot. We ended up going all out and getting drinks, appetizers, dinner, coffee and dessert. WOW! Totally worth the money with no complaints with the food at all. Definitely will come back for special occasions or when we are in the area. Exceptional

Went here for Father's Day brunch. There was an all inclusive price. The food and service were wonderful. There was also live entertainment, which was an added bonus.. I love that it is farm to table. I will definitely come back.

I was very tempted to give this place a 1-star, but there were some good things about this place. For starters, the atmosphere was amazing. When you walk in to the main inn, it's beautifully decorated, spacious, and smells like Williamsburg (that slightly smoky smell of cured meats). Fantastic. Out back, the garden is a great place to walk through and stroll with your hunnie while you sip on wine and wait for your meal. What's NOT so great is the service and the food. The poor server was doing her best, and never really forgot anything. But they took forever to get to you at first, and they were stretched very thin. You could see every server was struggling and frustrated. My father in law said they have management issues, and it's sad they can't get their acts together. The tables next to us were close to rioting and at one point the woman stood up and pointed to all the disgruntled tables asking where their servers were and what was going on. You could just tell it wasn't the first time this has happened to the servers, cause they were almost expecting it. The food was okay. My Baked Onion soup (aka French onion) was excellent. The chicken was cooked well, but the flavor wasn't great. The take on Asian cuisine seemed like a great concept, but they didn't really make it work. We really didn't eat much of the food, even though we're were starving when we got there. It's hard to remember everything we were upset about, but I can tell you that when you leave, you will not be a satisfied customer.

Extraordinary atmosphere, exceptional service, creative dishes, luscious coffee (you can buy the mugs...). Bottom line: a lovely and unexpected oasis of quality.

Simply put, this is a lovely hotel. From the beautiful gardens to the softest sheets ever, you will not find a better hotel than Settlers Inn in this area. The lobby was filled with fresh cut flowers and comfortable sitting areas. Equipped with a bar, restaurant and patio area, you cannot go hungry and certainly not thirsty staying here. I felt safe here and would return for sure. Each hotel room is unique and different. Mine had a view of the garden, a small couch and an armoire to hang my clothes in. This is not a "trendy" place to stay, but rather a classic bed and breakfast that you would see in a magazine. There is a coffee bar in the morning for guests to enjoy and breakfast that is included. You'd be mad not to have breakfast here- it is wonderful.

I have only been here twice for dinner so I cannot comment on an overnight stay, but I hear it's great. The dining room is beautiful, predominantly period-correct Arts And Crafts style. Great lighting and extreme attention to detail right down to the silverware and Mission-style fonts on the menu. The food is above average. Both my times dining, we have "shot the locks" and sampled a large portion of the menu. My highlight of my last meal there was the black lacquer whole duck. Cooked to perfection with exotic (tamarind?) spices. Good beer and cocktail selection. A place you can easily warm up at. Also, from my brief walk around the grounds, they do an excellent job with upkeep. Can't wait to go back just to have a drink at the bar! Settlers Inn brings a serious touch of class to Hawley and the Lake Wallenpaupack Area in general. Now here's to hoping the new Dollar Store next door shuts down and something half as worthwhile as Settlers takes its place. One step at a time.

Although we have stayed here in the past, we stopped in to dine on this occasion. They had just launched their fall menu, and everything we ate was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is wonderful, and we all enjoyed the small seasonal menu that emphasized the local farm to to table fare. We all tried different menu options (monkfish; pasta; polenta with lobster; chicken), and we all, universally, loved our dishes. I highly recommend the Settler's Inn for dinner.

On a recent getaway for New Year's we stayed at the Settler's Inn. A quick and scenic ride from CT took us to a lovely bed and breakfast with a wonderful atmosphere. We were really quite taken with the cozy and warm feeling we got as soon as we walked in - it didn't stop even when we left. The decorations from Christmas made the common room glow beautifully and the snow flurries we had the next day was pretty magical. It really felt like we escaped to a winter wonderland. Our room was a decent and cozy size with a small seating area. We had a little trouble figuring out the shower/tub, but don't hesitate to ask the staff for assistance - they were lovely the entire stay! A slight negative was that it was hard to ignore the noisiness that can happen when staff try to repair an unruly heater in a neighboring room or guests who were a bit loud - might be since our bed was right next to the door or acoustics of the rooms as a poster mentioned. The breakfasts in the morning were perfect and the restaurant relaxing - though the Smoked Salmon with Potato Gallette was not my favorite, the Gouda and Winter Vegetables Omelet was wonderful. We also stayed for the New Year's Eve dinner with Jazz performances by Thos Shipley and company. It was a lovely evening, though I would suggest they start dinner seating later in the evening because guests were pooped and didn't stay until the end - we felt horrible to leave the jazz performers too. Also, the transitions between the performances and their breaks made for slightly awkward pauses. The menus shouldn't differ between the Undercroft and the Dining Room. Overall a great place to stay and we would definitely visit again!

Just returned from a lovely short break in the Poconos and had the pleasure of staying at the Inn for two nights. Booking was easy and pleasant - we had a living social voucher but at no time were treated like second class guests as is often the case. The inn itself is really lovely - built in 1920 it does have a traditional feel but on a snowy weekend in January who wouldn't enjoy the muted Tiffany lamps, roaring fire and cozy couches? Our room was well appointed with a spotless bathroom with quality towels and provisions. The bed was super comfy and the linen had a great high thread count - made lying in bed watching the snow fall onto the garden a nice memory. Staff were all extremely pleasant, well organised and helpful - one of those places where it felt like people actually cared if you were happy and wanted you to have a good time. We dined in one night for dinner and twice for breakfast and on each occasion we were impressed with the quality of the seasonal and locally sourced food, the selection, the presentation and the service. Dinner of french onion soup followed by chicken with risotto for me and fillet with sweet potato hash for the bf was rustic, traditional with comforting flavours. Breakfast put fun twists on your traditional items and set us up for each day. Overall a lovely place and I would both recommend and return (perhaps in fall or spring to take advantage of the local area a little more).

We ended up staying a weekend here when our flight to Savannah was cancelled, and we still wanted to escape the city. Getting here was a bit of a challenge from NYC - it's not a straight shot, but involves several different highways and a few two lane winding country roads. Going home was a breeze, and we made it to the UES in just under two hours. The building itself is a beautiful historic structure. It has an Arts & Crafts theme throughout, which creates a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. All of the furniture is replicated, and for the most part, it's well done. Only a few things made me laugh (i.e. the design on my "wooden" electric fireplace). Overall, it was clean and comfortable. Our room had a sitting area near the fireplace that was great for reading or napping. The farm-to-table restaurant was the highlight of our stay. We didn't have reservations, but due to it being a cold, snowy night, we had no problem getting a table. The servers and sommelier were tremendously friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing. We ordered: Goat cheese appetizer - baked in phyllo dough with an apple jam. This was amazing. I could have made a meal out of this. Salmon: Huge portion. Could have easily been split between two people. It came with rice and tons of fresh vegetables. Mushroom bourguignon. This was served with a kale, carrot and potato ragout. For dessert, we opted for the english toffee pudding, which was their signature dessert. It was delicious. Too rich for me, so I only had a bite, but it was definitely a hit! Their wine and beer list was lengthy and impressive. The customer service here was amazing. On the morning after a snow, we came out to a cleaned off car, which was so appreciated! We'll definitely return here.

Classy, quaint, and country feel!!! Love that I found this place when I decided to visit the Poconos and found Hawley! Room 301 was so spacious! The bathroom shower was so large and new. The garden is beautiful. The breakfast was delicious and I included with the room. The hotel has the free bikes for use. Great way to explore the town and surrounding trails. one negative about room 301: it is facing Main Avenue, the main road through Hawley, to and from other towns. So if you are a light sleeper, you might hear the cars and trucks coming and going. I didn't have a problem until I was getting up, hard to fall back to sleep. Room 301 is the only room with 2 Queens size beds (it is one of the few family rooms). The other family room is 2 suites connected by a bathroom. Each of the suite has only one queen size bed.

Wonderful place. Dinner and breakfast delist...the grounds are enchanting, the room, especially the bed, was luxurious. Was here for Wednesday jazz night and Thos Shipley singing and was well worth it. Can't wait to return for New Years Eve.

AMAZING! We just got married here over the weekend and it was the most magical and perfect weekend we could ever ask for. For anyone who has ever had a bad experience or wrote a negative review I urge you to bring it to the management team. Any concern or issue we had was addressed and taken care of no questions asked. The owner Jeanne and her staff made sure our wedding went exactly how we envisioned. We couldn't have asked for anything more! We will be returning ever chance we get! All of our friends and family fell in love with every part of the Inn. If your considering this location for your wedding or other venue I promise you won't be disappointed! Thank you again to the staff at Settler's for our beautiful wedding day!! P.S. Thank you Marla for the cheese ;) we're eating it for dinner last two evenings!! Cory and Kristin Willis

The inn itself is charming and surprisingly lively. Rooms are small but cozy. We traveled with another couple and had two adjoining rooms which was very nice. The Fireplace in the lobby was perfect to warm up and have some drinks from the bar. Dinner was another story. They were trying to make it gourmet and failed. No one at my table enjoyed their food. The combinations were odd and flavors were off. It surprised me there were so many people eating there with food so pricey and mediocre. It's one thing to have bad food.... and another to charge gourmet prices for it. Advice: Stay at the inn but opt to dine somewhere else.

My husband and I decided to take a mini-vacation to the Settlers Inn for our anniversary and, not being from the area, we based our decision to go to the Settlers Inn on all of the positive Yelp reviews. However, I am sad to report that we did not have a 4 or 5-star experience. It was really a combination of several factors that contributed to our 2-star experience. First, I have to hand it to them...they have a pretty good web designer. Half of the things represented on their website are/look completely different in person. For example, they describe a park across the street where there are tennis courts. Well, leave your tennis rackets at home! These courts can barely be played on. The nets were ripped and there were weeds growing out of every corner. They were literally the worst tennis courts I've ever played on. The rooms were a major disappointment. We had an extremely small room and bathroom. The bed was the most uncomfortable and soft bed I've ever slept on...I think a water bed would have been more comfortable. The pillows were equally awful. The food at the restaurant downstairs was also nothing to write home about. We spent two nights there, so we had two breakfasts, and the service was extremely slow and the food was, at best, mediocre. We also splurged (and I say splurge because it is pretty expensive) and had dinner at the restaurant one night. The food was just OK for the price. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't worth the high price tag. Also, we were extremely disappointed with the staff. There was literally one person who could offer any kind of advice about the area or directions. She (I forget her name) was extremely helpful, but everyone else we dealt with at the front desk gave the impression that we were bothering them by asking them to do their jobs. Do yourself a favor and do a lot of research about places to eat and things to do before going, because you aren't going to get a lot of help from the front desk! Although we, personally, didn't have a great experience (and probably won't go back because of it), there were a few positive things I should mention. First, the Inn is located in a pretty good location. It is very close to a big lake where you can engage in a lot of water-related activities. Also, the lobby of the Inn is really neat. It has a very old-timey/rustic feel. There is a bar and there are several tables where you can play cards or games (chess, checkers) while having a drink. It is a very relaxing way to spend a night. All in all, I had higher hopes for the Settlers Inn.

We stayed here and loved it and the dinner was amazing as well. Would highly recommend it as a great departure from the city you feel like you are a world away. The staff was lovely and they have bikes to use as well. We told them we were going for our anniversary and they had a special chocolate waiting for us and then the waiter knew as well. Very thoughtful. Love that the restaurant serves all locally sourced stuff.

In the middle of a long twelve day working trip on the east coast, I booked two nights at Settler's Inn because it looked like a real retreat. Patricia on the phone was great and answered all my questions regarding the grounds, rooms and the restaurant. Upon check in it was discovered that her manager had given our carefully selected room to someone else and left the property for four days. The quiet room we had hoped for was gone and the only room they could give us was on the street side. Despite Patricia's efforts, there were no other rooms available so we had to just make the best out of it and we did. Dinner was perfection, the grounds were delightful and my husband and I soon relaxed. The next day we were happily moved to another room on the back side of the building. It was much quieter and we were grateful for Patricia's above and beyond efforts to make us comfortable. We spent 5 hours in the garden reading and relaxing and enjoyed every moment of our stay. We can't wait to return for another (a bit longer) retreat hopefully soon! The only negative is the location of the road, parking lot and the street noise. The rates were reasonable and I felt we had a wonderful experience all in all. I love the decor, the food and every single staff member was absolutely wonderful from the room attendants to the chef. I'll write my review on the restaurant on the restaurant's yelp page. Thank you Patricia for all your help.

We spent a night at The Settler's Inn for a romantic weekend celebrating our first wedding anniversary. We had never been to Hawley, but the website for the inn looked good. Thankfully, reality didn't disappoint! We loved staying here. The room was a bit small, but it was quaint and adequate. The bed was very comfortable, and the room and bathroom were clean. The shower had nice, hot water with good water pressure. We especially enjoyed the restaurant and the ambiance of the inn. The dinner we had was amazing! We booked the "romantic getaway" package, so our dinner was included. We each got an appetizer, a meal, and dessert included. We were so full! The food was fresh, seasonal, and presented beautifully. It tasted fabulous too! We also had stellar service. During dinner we also enjoyed beautiful piano music. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately we didn't have great weather during our stay, but the gardens in the back of the inn are lovely, and dining on the terrace would've been very nice in better conditions. We also took advantage of the bike share program, and rode along the river and around Hawley. That was nice, although the town of Hawley doesn't have much to offer. Definitely check out The Silk Mill building, Cocoon coffee shop, and Ledges hotel just up the road from the inn. We are looking forward to our next stay at the Settler's Inn! It's a great, quiet, cozy place to get away and relax!

Home style lodgings and fireplace lobby help create a lodge ambiance. Bar has an excellent beer list and the bartenders actually take the time to craft each cocktail and drink. Live piano music at night add elegance.

This place is a great romantic getaway. Surrounded by autumn leaves and the beautiful hard wood interior of this hotel adds to the charm. The rooms have one of the best beds around. The bath tubs are big enough for two but there is a great shower as well. Not only wonderful rooms but a 5 star quality restaurant is in the hotel. This is definitely a great place to getaway!!

We dined at the Settlers Inn before departing from our week-long vacation at Lake Wallenpaupack. My boyfriend decided to treat my mother and I to a nice dinner for our last night on vacation. The Settlers Inn has a great atmosphere and a gorgeous garden, so we decided to give it a try. We made reservations for 5:30 pm for dinner; this is when they begin serving dinner. We arrived 15 minutes early and were told by several employees that the host would be with us momentarily, so my mother and I decided to browse their cute, little shop while my boyfriend held our place in line. When the host arrived, he looked directly past my black boyfriend and started trying to help the couple behind him; the couple behind him stated he was there first and he then informed us that we had to wait until 5:30 to be seated (no big deal). We decided to grab a drink at the bar to pass some time. Another couple was at the bar getting drinks and went to sit in the little waiting area. After standing at the bar for 5 minutes while the bartender was talking to another server and they both glanced at us but continued their conversation with their backs to us. My mother had to ask if the bar was open and simply received an answer of "Yes". We had to ask for drink menus and place our order without even being asked since it was apparent we wouldn't be served without doing so. Once it was 5:30 we went to the dining area. A gentleman came over a few minutes later and began telling us drink specials, but would not look in my boyfriends direction whatsoever. The server's service was not much more welcoming than any of the other employees we encountered; she seemed uncomfortable and inattentive. We had ahi for an appetizer and fillets and pork for dinner; everything was so well paired. The foundations of the restaurant are above average, but the service my boyfriend received was extremely unprofessional. After being upset about this for a few days, my sister decided to call the restaurant and ask to speak to management to express her dissatisfaction. The manager was very rude and stated it's never happened in 10 years and he believes the signs were read wrong. Also that the bar was busy and they weren't ignoring us. I don't understand how the bar could have been busy when the restaurant had not even began seating in the dining room yet. Very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant and would not recommend.

We booked a specific room online and actually chose the inn (which was out of our way) for that room, which had a fireplace. We received a room without a fireplace, and when we asked the front desk she just said that a lot of people think they're getting that room when they're really not (ie the website leads you to believe you're selecting a room, yet you're actually randomly assigned). So, don't book thinking that you're getting the room you see on the website. It seems that the inn misrepresents fully knowing that guests have had such a mix up before, and they don't accommodate their guests when it is pointed out. It was such a disappointment, because my boyfriend and I have been long-distance and painstakingly carved out 36 hours to go away together. There were also 2 dead bugs in our bathtub. Someone came and scraped the bugs out, but I would have preferred housekeeping come with a disinfectant. So, bottom line, believe the reviews about the bad service. We didn't have dinner there, but breakfast was mediocre. You can spend $12.50 pp, entire menu at your disposal. There is a nice lobby, k-cup coffee available on the floor, and some snacks.

Hi!! My name is Deirdre, and I'll be your server today.! Today's special is a juicy review topped with a delicate sauce of sauciness. Let me know if you need your water refilled at any time, or just grab paul over there, he'll take care of you if I can't!! AHA! You thought I was just being a silly snotty LA chick, but NO, I gotcha! I worked at The Settler's Inn off and on from about 16 to 21, working my way up the ranks from busser to waitress to catering, enabling me to work my way through college paying cash. This is the kind of place you can feel equally happy being dressed up or casual. It IS still a small town, so if you're too wacky, you'll still get great service, but you might get some stares from other diners ;) Arrive early or stay late, allowing yourself time to look around. The Genzlinger's have restored this amazing 1920's Victorian cottage painstakingly over the years. It began nicely enough, but from the gardens to a little shed that sells local goods, and especially the interior of the Inn itself, the whole family has worked to make this place unforgettable. I remember in the late 80's they repeatedly were on best inn's in America lists..they modestly only list the most recent awards on their page. Also: if you were thinking of staying here instead of just eating, they're an official "green" hotel! I'm happy to report the kitchens are clean and they've been locavores LONG before that was even a word in Saveur's dictionary! If you need gluten/vegetarian/etc menu help, let them know when you make the reservation, and they;ll totally accommodate you. Also: they have a great record of taking care of their workers, from inhouse promotions to splitting tips, giving breaks and free meals while working , etc. Don't know if this is still the case, but at the time they catered fancypants NYC weddings pretty frequently, back when the Poconos were considered a wedding destination. Still remember that Ralph Lauren one.. Aah, the 80's. Personally, I think the VERY best time to go is during the winter. They have a VERY long wait list for their famous Victorian Christmas dinners , usually held the first week of December (here's an old description: thesettlersinn.com/newsl… , which are a bit different every year, but feature anything from a gingerbread town to horse drawn carraige rides & jugglers in victorian attire to a desert table highlighting everything possible in the 12 days of Christmas! Of couse, if you can't get on the list, all throughout December their amazing turn of the century decor stays up-- think Victoriana meets Roaring 20's glam! Second best time to visit is during the fall foliage, just before Halloween (they decorate punkins with a VENGEANCE). That;s when my true love appears: hand churned carrot cake ice cream, made from their own homemade carrot cake! Whoa. I hated carrot cake before that ice cream. True story. Of course, in the summer there's still fresh-baked bread, summer jazz, freshly caught trout, salads with herbs from the garden..and fireflies to light your way back to the car. sigh. I just made myself homesick! ps: In case you didn't know, waitstaff in PA get paid LESS than minimum wage, so don't forget to tip, they literally live off of that dough, babe!

The Fella and I stayed here over labor day weekend as an anniversary gift from his parents. It is pricey, and really more than we could normally afford, but it sure was nice! The service was, of course, top notch. For dinner, I had the duck and the fella had "lamb two ways". The duck was pretty darn good, the lamb was envy-inducing, but the winner for us was really the side of artichokes. Roasted with lemon, it was a surprising and delicious treat! Just a note on dinner... the growler of beer is a lot of beer. More than two lightweights can really drink. Good thing we were staying the night. We stayed in a jacuzzi room on the first floor, which was a level of luxury we don't normally attain. After a day of canoeing, it was transcendent. Breakfast was good, and the grounds charming. Not much actually in the town, though, so be prepared to either loll around at the inn all day, or drive somewhere else.

This is definitely in my top 10 places I've ever been. Some good friends of ours in California held their wedding here this past fall and we flew out from Texas. It's a perfect setting for a fall wedding but it is also just a perfect setting in the fall. The river in the back with all of the trees lining the hill is worthy of being on a postcard. The rooms were great. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Complete with a feather tic. The lobby/bar area with the massive fireplace was very comfortable and the entire hotel staff was some of the most accommodating and friendly I have ever encountered. Now the restaurant! AMAZING. I was more than happy to see that the breakfast menu gave me the option of adding grilled fresh trout to my place. Along with scrambled eggs it was perfect. Then I went down for lunch. If you go, make sure you have a bowl of the butternut squash cinnamon soup. Best soup ever. The weekend we were there the lunch special was a venison burger. I cannot say enough about it. A cup of the squash soup and a medium rare venison burger with sweet potato fries. I'd eat lunch there everyday if it wasn't 2000 miles away!
