GREAT seafood! Will be back next time for sure.

I think this place is great for a budget lunch (bento boxes are a pretty great value) or a quick dinner. I ask though if what I'm getting is real or 'imitation' because some of the stuff just looks weird. I do like the spicy kani salad (which is imitation, right???) and the not so healthy spring rolls. I don't love their drinks so opt for a clear sake or a beer usually. I am glad that this is two blocks away from my apt as it's a nice option to have for a no fuss quick bite when I'm in the mood for Japanese and don't want to spend a ton of money.

ew. i just ate a bento box from here, on the recommendations from yelp-ers that it's fairly good, decently priced food. it's not. for ten bucks, it was an OK amount of food, but it was terrible. the salad dressing was thick and chunky, the dumplings had hard pieces and were greasy, and the chicken was THE WORST QUALITY MEAT I HAVE BEEN SERVED IN NEW YORK. gross. i had to throw over half of it away.

A friend and I went yesterday because our stomachs weren't up for the nearby churrascaria, and her wallet wasn't up for the over-priced steak frites at cercle rouge. Neither of us was in the mood for an all sushi meal, though, and that seemed to be Tataki's strong point. Her teriaki steak was cheaper than steak frites, oui, but not that satisfying. She can really pack it in normally:-), but didn't even finish her steak! My mango shrimp, a "chef's specialty" was pretty good. The special Tataki Roll was delicious, we both agreed, however, so stick to the sushi. This is a decent neighborhood option, but I wonder if they'll get run out of business by the flashier options around the corner.

Not bad for a solo biz trip dinner. I had the cilantro beef in medium. the medium was quite.. medium and a bit elastic. But what do you expect from a $20 dish in NYC? They had good enough service though and it was dark enough and mellow enough for a girl to sit and eat and get out!

Admittedly not a destination but certainly palatable before hopping on the A uptown at Canal Street station. I ordered the mi so soup, gyoza, ala carte spicy tuna, and sake. My bill was less than $20! The ambiance is average. It was a nice day so the windows were open to the street. The tables looked like they all needed a good scrubbing down or polishing but I have seen worst. The hot sake was of course wonderful. The gyoza were perfect! not too seafoody and crispy on the outside as Korean/Japanese spots seem to get them. BTW, although I had some flashbacks of being in Japan while eating here it is not authentic and offers a pan-Asian menu selection (clue here was the Pad Thai!) In any event, the service was quick and attentive and the food decent. My sushi was very fresh and I might actually come back to try a larger portion of sushi and gyoza. Final analysis, if in the area (especially around lunch) pop in for a budget friendly meal. Otherwise, standard fare but a nice option in an overpriced nabe like Tribeca.

Service is good, and the lunch special is cheap. I'm partial to the Chicken Katsu, which is not bad. They served the katsu sauce with spicy mustard in it, which is served separately everywhere else I've been. I asked for sauce without the mustard, no problem. The lunch came in a bento with a little egg roll with dip, salad, rice, and dumplings. Satisfied overall.

I came here with my girlfriend as we were leaving SoHo and looking for a quick and cheap-ish bite to eat in the area. This is a good Japanese place - quick friendly service, and good food. Good, not great. The prices however were great, for the amount and quality of food. I swear the Bento Box is the last bastion of quality value food in today's economic climate. For a mere $15 you receive a full grilled teriyaki chicken cutlet, California roll, rice, shrimp dumplings, salad and miso soup! Seriously, I'm not sure another place you can get this amount of food in Manhattan, let alone TriBeCa! The ambiance is nice and calming, lots of wood and Japanese "artifacts" and a big open window onto the street. Definitely would go again if I was in the area for a quick-ish bite.

Not wild about it. I would even go so far as to avoid it. They're a little liberal with the sauce.

First time coming here and definitely come again. It was practically full when I came in. The waitress was very nice, big slime. We placed order in and they finished very fast. I like their eel - well I just like eel Shrimp tempura - above the ordinary level compare to other Sashimi and sushi just so yummy yummy The place was very clean and comfortable I am really starting to enjoy this place. If any my friend want a place sushi, definitely telling them to come here cause they are just as good as the other sushi spot around the area

The most disgusting meal I can remember ever having had at a restaurant. Granted, this is a Japanese restaurant, so I probably should have been a bit wary of the pad thai, but even if it's not your specialty it shouldn't be REALLY REALLY DISGUSTING. And if you're that horrible at making it, don't serve it!!! I literally could only eat about 3 bites of the noodles (served with lemon, not lime, and totally overwhelmed by those dried onions that come in a jar). The sauce was also sort of...like vomit. I'm sorry, but seriously it was disgusting. I ordered it vegetarian, which they very nicely told me would be no problem, and would I like tofu on it? (There was no vegetarian pad thai listed on the menu.) The tofu that came was large slabs of deep fried tofu, Japanese style. It was the only thing edible on the plate, but it was extremely bland without any sauce, and had zero relation to the (supposedly) thai food that it was sitting on top of. The waiters were reasonably nice, and refilled our green tea quite frequently, which was much needed for trying to get the nasty taste out of my mouth (which lingered for hours, after many other food items & beverages), but we sat at the table for at least an hour after we had finished eating before we could wrangle someone into bringing us a check and then running the credit card. That said, my dining companion did enjoy her sushi, so hopefully this was just a poor ordering choice. But WOW it was horrible.

My man and I were in NYC and our lunch plans in the neighborhood fell through. I'd run a 10K race in Central Park that morning and we were carrying all of our stuff because we'd already checked out of our hotel, so getting to put our stuff down and eat a cheap lunch or brunch as soon as possible was becoming more and more of a pressing concern. We spotted Tataki because it had a little Christmas-light tree in the front, and it looked okay (and open) so we stopped into the empty restaurant. It's wall-to-wall wood in there and pretty standard as far as decor goes; the sushi places I have liked and frequent happen to be sleek and shiny and bright, so being seated at a stained, nicked, old-looking table with some crumbs on it made me feel a little hesitant, especially because my boyfriend doesn't eat sushi since the last time he tried it landed him in the hospital with food poisoning for a couple of days. Despite my apprehensions I had a couple of pieces of salmon sashimi--pretty decent. Not too wet-textured (my biggest disappointment with salmon sashimi), with good, fresh flavor, and enormous pieces at that--bigger than any sashimi slices I've had before. However, there was a small curly hair on my last piece. The chef had gloves on so I wasn't skeeved, but still. I was too timid to say anything to our waiter, though--sometimes I get like that, esp since it was super-quiet in the restaurant. My boyfriend had his first udon noodle soup here. He liked it and thanks to trying it here, he now has something he likes to order when out for sushi with others.

I've been to Tataki twice and both times the sushi was wonderful. The fish is fresh and tastes great. The place is always empty, which guarantees you a spot, but a lot of people are missing out on good food at a decent price.

Excellent servers who were really polite. Started off with an avocado salad, which was beautifully presented and tasty. Next came the salmon and avocado hand roll. The salmon quality was not amazing but it was alright. I ordered one of their chef's special rolls with a number of premium ingredients such as lobster and avocado in it, but was extremely let down. It tasted like a deep fried shrimp roll with a ton of sauce to cover up the heavy rice roll. It's possible that I picked the one thing on the menu that was not up to their usual standards. I debated whether I wanted to finish it, and decided against it. If I'm going to consume food, it should be enjoyable. The server was polite when I told him that I wasn't enjoying it. The owner came to ask me about it and tried to offer me something else. I politely declined and he removed it off my bill. I can respect that. I hope that he also comes to re-evaluate some of his menu items, which seem to not serve the purpose of an enjoyable experience.

I've ordered from here a few more times since my last review and I only order when someone else is treating me. This is because the quality is just really poor, at least when it comes to the sushi. I even tried the spicy salmon rolls again and I've sworn it off. It seems like they ground the salmon and then mix it with the mayo before assembling the roll; but the end result tastes bland and mushy. The shumai, especially the wasabi shumai, are no longer good. Mine were strangely hard and didn't taste fresh. The fried calamari comes with exactly 9 pieces; the batter is very simple and the consistency of the squid was sort of stringy. Was not a fan of their garlic shrimp fried rice; Chinese flavors, overcooked shrimp. When I opened up my side salad a very small spider crawled off the inside of the container top :( I know things happen, it was a *very* small spider but yeah, I wasn't eating the rest of that salad. The gyoza are still good, and their chicken wings are actually really big and tender and juicy (they come with sweet chili sauce on the side). And if you're ordering for many different people they will individually bag and label everything which is nice.

*** Wide sushi roll selection, Great service *** Came here with a friend for dinner. We split two sushi rolls. The rolls were delicious and pretty standard that you would find at most Japanese restaurants. However, it was a bit pricey. The service was great though! I wouldn't be coming back only because of its location.

This sushi spot is great for a affordable lunch spot during work hours, or a place for takeout if you live in the neighborhood. Came to find this place as the girlfriend had a meeting in the area and was looking for a quick bite. We tried 4 classic rolls and they were all fresh and tasty, but not out of this world. We were the only ones there, but they had a number of deliveries and takeouts going out at the same time. Ideal spot for affordable sushi.

The lady and I walked in because we were looking for a place to eat on Black Friday-you'd be surprised how many restaurants were closed. I got the pork katsu while the lady got the udon. The food was all right, the katsu was pretty good and the udon definitely took the chill out of my girlfriend. Glad it was open but definitely not a place that you need to go out of your way for.

Tasty and fresh food, fast and friendly service, Tataki offers good Japanese food at a very reasonable price. Located at Tribecca, it is one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Manhattan. I always order their sushi and Bento box, and I was never disappointed. I recommend this restaurant!

  • Linda Z.

I've been mostly pleased with food I've been served here. However, I really wish they hadn't gone the 'healthy' route and decided the teriyaki chicken should be prepared without skin. What is that? Everyone knows all the flavor comes from the fat in the skin and chicken is too dry without it. Let the health nuts peel the skin OFF their chicken if they are so damn concerned. Staff are always polite, service is prompt, and prices are decent. I'll be back, just not for anything that includes chicken. *sad face*

If you want to get a Chinese style sushi, go to Tataki! I had a sashimi and rock shrimp, both were ok. But their tables were very sticky and flies were flying around. So unappetizing. Service was fine. They are polite but they were speaking Chinese each other very loud. I wouldn't go back there again.

5 stars for fresh fresh fresh. Wicked fresh fish. Fave dish is Salmon Don. Love when the front windows are open, and you can sit right at the foot of 6th Ave and in the sunlight while you eat. Have eaten here a dozen times, and still coming back even though I don't work in the building across the street anymore :)

I was so pissed when I paid $4 for Thai coffee. Tastes just like every day coffee dollar coffee, no spices or anything. Styrofoam cup with six pieces of ice. I asked for it to be extra sweet. She handed it over and said "she put two sugars in it. Here's three more to add if you need more." Do you know how hard it is for sugar crystals to melt in cold coffee?? Usually liquid sugar is used in cold beverages. Just so irky. I think I'm more pissed that I paid more than I'm used to paying for plain coffee.

Food is about as good as an airport sushi carryout. The thing that really stuck with me was the sushi chef. It wasn't that busy, so he frequently went outside to smoke in front of the restaurant. When he returned to his station you got a good whiff of cigarettes from outside and on him as he walked past. And then he got to work making sushi. It was really unappetizing. The mood of the place is pretty depressing. Staff seems nervous and uncomfortable. Manager seemed really uptight. Prices are reasonable. Service was just barely acceptable. So many places to have sushi in NYC that there's no reason to return.

Fresh, polite, McDonalds style Japanese. However: I do not like sashimi the size of a steak. I do not like marinated seaweed. I do not like Westernised Japanese food. C'est tout.

Where do I begin? We walked in and the place was EMPTY. That should have been a red flag for us to turn around and walk out, but it was dinner time and we were hungry-not to mention very tired from just getting to NY that day. Nothing on the menu sounded appealing so I decided to order based on nutrition. I ordered the fish (grilled tilapia). It came on a little cast iron skillet topped with bell peppers, onion, and sweet n spicy sauce. The dish was ehh, almost like something you can find in the frozen food section that was heated using the convention oven directions rather than microwave directions. There were 3 people with me that weren't impressed either. The food was over priced and the service under par. If you see this place keep on walking, you will soon run into something better and that probably made the Food Network at one point in time.

Tribeca/Chinatown has slim pickins when it comes to edible and affordable lunches. There is an endless stream of mediocre lunch buffets and the usual fast trash. Take a walk down lispenard, past the shady folks selling knock off hand bags, and you will find a beacon of tasty hope at tataki. Upon my arrival, I am enthusiastically greeted every time but the friendly staff. My go to is the lunch special sushi a. Very rarely is a sushi lunch filling but with this you get : soup and salad, sushi, California roll, 3 gyozas and a spring roll. You will not leave hungry for your reasonable $11.95 and it's always fresh! Apparently I'm a huge pain in the &$@@ and require special treatment... No soup for me, extra salad (soup is good but the honey miso dressing is one of my favorite things ever.) White fish skeeves me... I'd much rather have crab sticks. No prob! Hot sauce on everything? Don't even have to ask, cos it's already out! I've been branching out and occasionally trying the specialty rolls, and they've all been great. Try the 11103! What's great is there inch crew knows me so well, they are quick to suggest exactly what they know I will want. If you are looking for a fast, delicious reasonably priced lunch, stop by Tataki and give them a shot!

Excellent Japanese restaurant!!!! I had the spicy tuna crunch which was delicious!!! Also the yellowtail jalapeño sashimi was great. My daughter devoured 4 eel rolls and said they were the best she ever had. We will definitely be going back to this great little find!!

Food is pretty good in here. As always, I ordered a chicken teriyaki and it was delicious. The teriyaki sauce was awesome! it's not too sweet like i had in many of other sushi restaurants. The grill squid is also one of my favorite with something like seafood sauce. The waiter is very polite and always have smile on his face. Pretty good environment for dine in. Will definitely come back soon :)

I passed by this restaurant, and I decided to get a quick lunch at there. The service at there is great. I ordered a lunch bento box. It was great value in term of price. In addition I order a sexy lady roll. The roll is so tasty. I will try to go there again when I am in TriBeCa next time.

Best Lunch combo in the neighborhood for around $10 (Lunch Bento Boxes are priced around $10-15) I've been new to the Tribeca neighborhood and was looking for a good lunch deals that had more than just an entree. Tataki is by far has the best variety for it's price. Lunch Combos I've had: - Chicken Satay (w/Gyoza, Spring Roll, Miso Soup or Salad) the peanut sauce has real peanuts in them and the marinade for the chicken skewers taste great! - Chicken Katsu (w/Gyoza, Spring Roll, Miso Soup or Salad) chicken is very tender and it's crust is very crispy, yet not greasy their Gyoza and Spring Roll add-ons come both with their own dipping sauces. For someone who likes diverse flavors with her dishes, it's major ++++ points. I've only dined-in once, and the wait staff was very pleasant, food came in a good amount of time. when you order the lunch combo to dine-in, you get both, Miso Soup and Salad. I usually do a walk-in take-out order, and it's ready within 10 minutes. I've also 10013 and their Golden Dragon Roll. It's your average Sushi, Fish tastes fresh, nothing to complain. Overall-- i highly recommend this as a good lunch spot that will fill you up for a good price.

Personally is one of the best restaurants where I can enjoy different dishes and drinks. The location is great and the people are always at your services and very friendly. Price is very decent for the good dish quality they have. I go most of the time during my lunch hour. I recommend to everyone.

My friends and I were late (or heading towards) a networking event, and decided to eat beforehand just in case there wasn't enough to eat there. (It turned out to be a good move.) We ordered the dinner special since we could split two between the three of us - definitely a good deal. The food quality was alright - I've definitely had better Japanese food elsewhere. The only interesting thing I had here was the flaming tempura ice cream. That was pretty good. Otherwise, I'd say find another place in the neighborhood to eat in - this place was legit standard Japanese food. The waiter also didn't seem to understand half of what we were saying, but oh well.

I really want to like this place. It is the closest to my office. But to be honest, I am struggling. Ive been a few times now. The boss is pretty rude and seems to depress the staff. The waiting staff are well intentioned and pleasant. The sushi chefs look nice enough, if a little murderous at times. Not many smiles here. Even for regulars. Ok to the food: The sushi is quickly made. Which is great of you are hungry. Bad though that it seems to falls apart rather too quickly. The rolls in particular crumble. It tastes fresh enough but nothing here to write home about. I am all the time I am thinking back to cheaper, more friendly sushi places in Flatiron / Midtown East where I worked previously. A smile can't be that hard to muster can it?

This place is a gem in Tribeca. Sometimes you don't want to sit down to a nice dinner and just want something delicious, simple and fast, but you don't want to eat a sandwich, bagel, or questionable hot food that's been sitting out for who knows how long. Tataki is the perfect in between place, and I find myself coming here 1-2 times a week. You can pick up within 20 minutes of your order or get it delivered in 45 minutes. All the entrees and rolls are solid; well made, substantial, and pretty tasty. You'll spend as much as a cafe, but actually get made to order sushi. What else could you ask for?

We stopped here to grab dinner before going to a party. The prices seemed to be reasonable when we checked the price menu outside the restaurant. We only ordered 2 dishes: a. Beef Pan Fried Flat Noodle - Decent. Ok for a quick bite. Nothing more nothing less! b. Pretty Roll (spicy snapper, crunch, jalapeño, avocado, and caviar) - Poor. all I could taste was the mayo inside the sushi! no sign of any caviar (however poor quality they give) inside the roll! Not a place for sushi probably! What irked me was the manager. The waiter was taking the order when the manager decided to butt in and decided to take the order himself! Probably did not have anything better to do! I asked for the Hand roll. Received the Inside out roll style! Did not bother to ask for a change as we were in a rush. One word of unsolicited advice to this manager: Please look and listen to patrons when they are ordering. Its only 2-5 mins of your life! Looking away while taking orders and shouting in Japanese to your employees does not get you a repeat customer! Overall, one of the poor restaurants around! Might be a good place for lunch boxes based on the previous reviews but not good enough for a sit down dinner option (specially with that manager buzzing around!)

I was staying at Sheraton for a business trip. The front desk recommended this place to me. The food was great and fresh. I ordered few rolls and the salmon sashimi was really fresh and tender. The price was very reasonable. I will definately go back again.

Stopped in for quick take out on a chilly night. Miso and chicken udon soup were both great. Sushi selection was pretty good as well. Not every menu item was strictly Japanese, but I wouldn't go as far as calling the place inauthentic. The manager took my order and was neither friendly nor rude; I would agree with other reviewers that you're not going to see many smiling faces here, but that should not stop you from giving them a try.

I'd say my experience was different than the reviews I read. Going in having read the reviews I was my expecting much. So the staff was super nice and my waiter was awesome and very attentive. The concept of sushi "on demand" rolling by for me to grab at my will is quote dangerous indeed as I want to grab them all. However, the sushi itself is just ok. Not a lot of meat/fish I the actual rolls so if you are used to places like me where you get a few chunks of fish and nice complex rolls then you will be disappointed. The rolls are pretty simple with a lot of veggie options and sauces with a (insert hmmm) Mexican flare to the Japanese tradition. Spanish music playing also weird to me at sushi ---even though it firs their "concept" of Mexican Japanese....still odd for a sushi connoisseur. Overall it's close to my hotel which is why I chose it. It's not cheap at 4.50-7.50 for the half rolls rolling on conveyor belt, and if the rolls had larger portions of raw fish I would not care, but the food/cost ratio isn't the best in my opinion,....but if you are in the area it's a good option when it's cold out and your not feeling like going far.

Ordered delivery and hated it. I am not sure the fish was fresh because it tasted slightly too fishy. The rolls were put together in a sloppy manner. And eventually, I found a piece of plastic inside one of the pieces. Stay away.

I ordered the nabiyaki udon and my friend got the hot and spicy udon. We agreed that both dishes were rather bland. There definitely was an assortment of vegetables in my soup, but it felt like they were all just thrown in there without any thought. The waitress didn't even come around to give us water until we asked. The best part of it was that we were the only customers! We know why now. Although there aren't too many restaurants around, I don't highly recommend this place.

I don't understand the horrible reviews. Anyway, we came here on a whim looking for some fast and yummy for dinner. Phone pointed us here which is a stone's throw from the Sheraton (literally around the corner). The sushi we got were fresh, spider rolls and spicy salmon always calls for that. Even the edamame was salted and warm, service was attentive and surprisingly nice. Will return again :)

Had a friend from out of town here, and she wanted to eat sushi. I wasn't sure where to take her, since everywhere I'd been between Noho/Nolita/Soho had been either overpriced, crappy or both. So I hit up Yelp and after one miss (awful! didn't stay), we realized Tataki, the next one on the list, was 5 mins away. It was a warm day and we loved that it was open air and we sat out front. The gyoza here are honestly some of the best I've ever had in my life. I think they might be wholly deep fried, because they're crispy all over. Delicious. I ordered the 2 shrimp chef's roll... its 2 tempura shrimp in a roll with all this other stuff... delicious! My friend got some sashimi and this interesting roll wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber! Very creative. It was yummy. The waiter was super nice, but the guy who seemed like the boss/owner was really gruff and unfriendly... its like... who peed in your cornflakes today? LOL. Anyhow, I really like this place. I'm gonna tell my roommate she should order in from here instead of Ritz Asia (yuck).

I cannot believe that with the economy in the dumps, a natural disaster that has left our great city in debt that ANY restaurant would allow less than stellar service! I ran in today for a quick bite of sushi and sat at the bar. My sushi did not offer any snack while I scanned the menu. You know the snack I'm speaking of, the cup of minced cucumber with vinegarette, this place.. NADA. The prices are way too high and they are literally off canal street so I guess they are struggling to pay the rent in this dump. My waiter was rushed, he brought me a glass of cold water with ice and it's like 38 degrees outside! Whatever happened to hot tea? I placed an order for Alaska and Shrimp tempura. What I got was tiny cold sushi with fake crab meat and avocado, one piece of shrimp cut in half wrapped in rice with lettuce. The price $17.22!!!! FOR WHAT???!!!! The last time I checked sushi means RAW FISH ON RICE, not avo and fake crab stick, CROOKS!!! I asked the manager and showed him the menu, he snatched away the plate and the re made the sushi, but with such a nasty attitute. I guess he was upset that I pulled him away from swatting flies with his paddle. YES HE WAS SWATTING FLIES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RESTAURANT AND IT'S LATE NOVEMBER. This place is sickening. Absolutely pathetic and I intend to complain to the NYC Dept of Health. This dump should be closed. PERIOD.

This is one of my usual Tribeca lunch spots. I work right across from here, so I order from here all the time. Never had dinner here, but lunch specials are always a good value. I had the lunch bento boxes, including chicken karage, chicken katsu, and chicken satay, and chicken teriyaki. (Yes I'm a chicken lover haha). I liked the teriyaki the best since it was filled with lots of flavor and had sauteed onions along with it. The lunch box comes with gyoza, a spring roll and a choice of salad or soup for only $10. There's no "wow" factor, but it's a reliable lunch. Portions are perfectly sized and definitely fills you up, unlike most restaurants in the area. I also had the lunch special - chicken soba noodle soup that came with a salad. The soup was too bland for my taste, but the soba noodles had a sweet kick to it.

I was advised to come here by a good friend of mine, and I took her up on that suggestion because I'm not too familiar with reasonable dining options in the area. Yes, I am fancy like that. So before the Bubble Lounge Elite Event, my +1 and I decided we needed some food because we knew we'd be drinking more than eating at the event. We came here, had some really good Udon, commented on how the economy is probably making everyone eat Udon as opposed to a sashimi platter, and then left. The food was OK, the service was good and the atmosphere was low-key and pleasant. If I'm in the area and need a simple, inexpensive meal, or want to go on a lunch date with the friend who suggested this place, I might come back. A-OK

PROS: Ambiance is very nice, clean, and has an open front of windows so that you can enjoy the outside weather. Large bar selection. Decently priced sushi rolls and lunch specials. CONS: Waiter was extremely rude, condescending, and pushy to my girlfriend and I upon ordering. This was pretty much immediately once we sat down, and seriously considered walking out. Also, we were never given water until our meal came. I've heard good reviews from colleagues, but this was a terrible first impression.

This place is the most disgusting place in NYC. I went in for lunch today and as I was eating the owners wife was swatting flies on the wall. I understand there are bugs in NYC, but not while a customer is eating. Second off, my water had a long piece of black hair in it. I showed it to the owner and he took it away and didn't even say one word. I don't want a refund or a free meal, but a replacement glass of water and an apology would of been great. I got neither. I usually eat there 2x a week and have been going for over 3 years. NEVER AGAIN!!!

I've been going to Tataki for over 12 years. I love the location, quiet and tucked away from the hustle of Manhattan. I usually get Spicy Tuna rolls and Green Dragon rolls. Their deserts are delicious! A and C train nearby and there's often plenty of parking after hours and Sundays (great for brunch!)

Huge portions. Reasonably fresh. Definitely a nice everyday sushi place but not something you'll remember for the rest of your life. Would definitely go again the next time I'm in the area.

Sushi made for the Dutch! Waaaay too many liberties taken with mayo, spicy mayo, eel sauce with mayo, jalapenos with mayo, mangos with mayo. You know that scene in "Forrest Gump" where Bubba just keeps on spewing out different types of shrimp dishes? Well substitute the word "shrimp" with "mayo", and you've found Tataki. I was so naucius after that meal that I broke a 5 year protocol against cigarettes and bummed a cig off my friend just to deaden the vomit convulsions around my esophagus. It wasn't that the food was terrible. No, the mango shrimp flavors were definately novel. The problem is that everything else tasted like a close derivative, or a not-so-distant-but-preferably-lost-cousin, almost as if this sushi's family tree doesn't fork. The highlight of the meal? The plum wine shot they give you after paying the bill. This dining experience was about as messed up as wiping your butt BEFORE taking a dump. I will say that the staff was very friendly though.... probably because they don't know any better.

glad my coworkers brought me here -- would've never expected such a good value at lunchtime in this neighborhood! $11 for the sushi lunch, which includes: 2 white fish nigiri, 2 tuna nigiri, 3 pieces california roll, 3 large pork gyoza, harumaki (eggroll), miso soup, and a salad! (i subbed brown rice for only $1 extra) it's not the best quality, but still very satisfying. eggroll was saturated with oil but remained crispy, gyoza was surprisingly tasty, and the salad was generously portioned. i'll be back to try their other lunch selections... but probably won't ever come here for dinner.

Two visits, both great. The first was a lunchtime stopover. I was impressed by the $10 bento boxes, which included miso soup, sushi rolls, gyoza, salad, and avocado slices wrapped in seaweed. Let me spell it out for you: THIS IS A GREAT DEAL. And the (vegetarian) sushi was delicious! As was the salad, whose dressing was very light and flavorful. I left full and satisfied. Second visit was for dinner. I went for a avocado and mushroom rolls, which were succulent and fresh-tasting. My bf, a Californian sushi-connoisseur, loved his spicy tuna. In fact, I've rarely seen him so placed by sushi (though this may be because we currently live in the Midwest). Yep, this was a winner.

Overpiced (even for lunch) but pretty decent sushi overall (spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls)-- most likely will not return.

I got the chicken satay bento box. It was pretty decent, although the chicken didn't seem the best quality and the ginger dressing on the salad wasn't up to what I expected. The dumplings, rice, and eggroll were really good, and you do get a lot of food though! Great atmosphere; I've been to Japan and it seemed pretty authentic/ not campy.

I've had consistently great food for lunch here. Noodles, Ramen, Sushi, Bento Boxes...all yum. Service is always friendly. Its always very quiet and pleasant in their too. No complaints here other than maybe they could have a few more noodle dishes.

Woe is the girl trying to find an affordable dinner spot in Tribeca. Tataki, not swank, or unforgettable, but solid enjoyable sushi with good service and a decent atmosphere is a good choice for dinner on a budget in a high-price area. Because you can't eat at Nobu every night.

No way. I've been here many times and the last time was my last. The best thing about this place is the carafe they serve the cold sake in. The food is....creative but so NOT authentic Japanese food. I love noodles but theirs are sub-par and the selection is shoddy at best. The music is usually super chill but the wait service isn't. If you want to get dirty looks and huffs and puffs from your waitress for asking about the menu come here every day. I'm never going back. There's a Thai place down the block that's way better than this and the prices are better, too.

The place was ok. I've gone here numerous times, the sushi is ok. The Bento Boxes are only ok. Nothing really stands out. Although the Rolls with Lobster are pretty good as are the Tempura dishes. Would definitely eat here again for a lunch.

My home girl lives in the area and loves this place. we always make a point to go here when i visit. Its quiet, and intimate, and the staff is extremely warm and friendly. Definitely go with one of the special rolls they are HUGE and a great price. My friend can barely fit them in her mouth and she is a slut. The fish is always fresh and quality. A true gem in a over priced trendy waste land.

Bottom line: A tasty treat with friendly service and great prices. Not for the sushi snobs among us. TriBeCa can be a really desolate place on the weekends, so when we ended up there after finishing some pottery at Color Me Mine, we were worried we weren't going to be able to find anything better to eat that Dunkin Donuts. The Churrascaria look promising, but would fill our bellies and simultaneously empty our wallets. We chanced upon Tataki as we were walking toward the subway and took a chance on it after OK-ing the prices. There was no one in the place but it seems friendly enough so we sat down to stuff ourselves. I had the spring rolls and the edamame as an appetizer - the spring rolls were pretty tasty though served with a slighty spicy sauce - I prefer a sweet plum sauce. Caught me off guard, but still good nonetheless. The edamama was covered in salt but nothing a little brush of couldn't take care of. Very tasty. My friend had the salmon rolls and raved about them- fresh and delicious! She liked the california rolls but didn't love them. I had the chicken udon soup - the chicken was a little bland as was the broth but I couldn't complain. It was good and warmed me up, which we needed. The teriyaki chicken my friend got in her bento box was very good but she didn't love her shumai. The red bean ice cream had her in tears of happiness. My boyfriend got the mango shrimp on recommendation from the waiter and we all agreed that it was pretty good for such an odd combination. He cleaned his plate. I got the banana split for dessert- green tea ice cream, red bean ice cream, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and a cherry drizzled in chocolate sauce. It was delicious. Overall I really enjoyed the place and we all agreed we would return if we were in the neighborhood. We went in expecting crap but were pleasantly surprised!

A friend from out of town suggested we go here. We ordered the Coco Lobster Roll and Volcano Rolls first. Both were delicious. The Coco Lobster Roll was exceptional. The Sashimi was so fresh. It cut in half with chopsticks like it should. Yellow tail was delicious. We asked for the most ordered thing on the menu at the waiters recommendation. Wild White Tuna. Not a fan, the bacon made this too fatty. The Dancing Panda roll was the last order, and it was pleasant. A very positive sushi experience. We ordered a large hot saki, then a small hot saki. The bill was $95.00 between the 2 of us, about right for the amount of rolls and drink. Would definitely go back, and recommend to friends.

This place is okay. Definitely not authentic, but then again, this is on the border of Chinatown (Asian Studies 101: China and Japan are not the same). My co-worker and I come here occasionally for the lunch special. Starting at $8.95, you can get an entree, plus miso soup, plus three gyoza dumplings, plus salad (yes, doused in 1000 Island), plus one mini-eggroll and chili dipping sauce, plus rice. I've had the chicken teriyaki (thin slice of chicken breast not drowning in sauce), beef negimaki (really horrid--there's cheese in it!), and the pork katsu (decent--your typical fried cutlet. comes with a weird spicy mayo/tonkatsu sauce combo). Tip: They deliver and do pick up as well--haven't tried the former, but the latter is pretty quick (less than 10 minutes).

It's not surprising that Tataki isn't a well-know restaurant. Tataki is located on an unassuming street in TriBeCa and its exterior doesn't stop people in their tracks. Still, the restaurant deserves more foot-traffic because of the decently-priced and extensive sushi menu. Although the sushi rolls weren't great, they were appetizing and appropriately-sized. Also, I personally like sushi rolls with mayo so I wasn't perturbed by this as some previous reviewers were. As for the decor, it's quaint and reserved. The atmosphere is also subdued, largely since hardly any other patrons were there even on a Saturday night. Overall, Tataki is a nice neighborhood sushi spot that I plan on visiting again.

Definitely agree with Tony S. This is sushi made for the Dutch...or any foreigner to real Japanese cuisine. Any Japanese restaurant that has PAD THAI on their menu should be closed down. And what real Japanese establishments puts THOUSAND ISLAND on their side salad? Come on...Tataki isnt even trying to be authentic. I wouldnt trust any reviewers taste in food if they gave this place frikkin 4 stars??? Yelping is fun, but it's mean to lead people in the wrong direction. And the only reason I came here was for lunch with coworkers. Trust me, I wouldnt make another round here if you beat me with a stick.

tataki - Take 2. Enjoyed my rolls on the first experience, they were super portions at a reasonable price and I say - quality! Like the quaint atmosphere. I went for the cliche bento box, going to have to admit from the usual canvas of dumpling to spring roll and version of tempura or choice of teryaki, everything again was top notch. After a second opinion - Ive had a meal's worth twice now for under $10.00 - big, satisfying and deelish.

I started coming here years ago for lunch when I worked in the neighborhood. I live in Chelsea and it is very convenient to meet people here from all parts of the city. It is a low key, but still happening area. I have come back many times for a consistent dinner, lately before a night at the nearby Jazz Gallery.

I order Tataki quite often for lunch while I'm at work. The food is pretty good and fair for its price ($$$ it is impossible to find good quality food at reasonable prices from where I work $$$). I've never been to the actual restaurant so I have no idea what the decor is like whatsoever. The delivery service is excellent. My usual delivery guy is friendly and is super quick with that bicycle! Once or twice they have forgotten my "silverware" or condiments. I still recommend that you give them a try!

i stopped in (ALONE!) for lunch today... ate at the sushi bar. quickest service i've ever received at a restaurant- especially a sushi joint. i got the lunch special Sushi Bento Box ($10 or so), which was a perfect (if not too much) amount of food- miso soup, salad, 3 california roll pieces, 4 sushi pieces, pork dumplings (didnt eat. veg&fish only), and a spring roll. it was f'ing great. also got seaweed salad to go. awesome. the waiters were all really attentive and i was in n out of there within 20 mins. no complaints here.

Always fresh seafood. Been here a few times, despite what the check-ins say (i'm forgetful). Every piece of sushi they put before you is rolled well and filled with fresh fish and fresh ingredients. The service is great and quick. The only downfall to this place is the liquor is a little pricey. And in regards to those who reviewed this place negatively because they got steak or some other non-sushi item; who gets steak at a sushi house? Bottom line this place is awesome for sushi and definitely one of the best places for a quick bite in Tribeca without breaking the bank (as long as you avoid the alcohol).

The salmon teriyaki was good, but do not get their sushi. It was horrible!!! The sushi rice was hard and cold and the fish was not that fresh at all. If you do decide to dine here, I'd stick with hot food entrees only and skip the sushi. On the positive side, they had great service!

Stopped in here for lunch. The service wasn't exceptional by any means, but the sushi was DELICIOUS! I got tuna and salmon nigiri and a couple hand rolls. super fresh and very very yummy. good atmosphere too.

  • Tania O.

Horrid. I have let it slide that they conveniently and consistently charge you extra once your bill is already printed up, and I have kept my mouth shut despite the fact that their servers are hands-down the most obnoxious and incompetent staff on the entire eastern seaboard. And I even forgave them for the food poisoning not once, but twice. But the fact that three separate friends of mine have also now gotten food poisoning leaves me no choice other than to post my first ever review on Yelp. This is step one. Next up: a personal phone call to the F.D.A. Do NOT underestimate the power of word of mouth.
