As a longstanding connoisseur of malted shakes, I cannot withhold a review. My first stop in Missoula for a vanilla malt was the popular Big Dipper--where the ice cream's great but the malts are not worth mentioning. Then I chanced upon the Uptown Diner one night as a waitress named Syleena was closing. She welcomed me in despite it being closing time. It was like walking into the 50s (the era of malts)! What a well-crafted ambience! The whole diner feels like a vintage/antique store. I sat on a bar stool and ordered my vanilla malt. She used real malt powder--not a chemical liquid substitute. It was in the traditional glass with a ton of extra shake in the metal mixing cup. It was perfect! Hands down the greatest malt I have ever drunk. The experience could only be described as magical. It time-traveled me into the 50s and amounted to the most authentic malt experience this Earth has yet offered me. Syleena's midwestern friendliness and her traditional-diner-waitress-esque gregariousness was the cherry on top. She treated me like a friend in her home. And I've never since tasted a better vanilla malt.

The cafe was very busy which is a great sign. I loved how our waitress, Linda remembered my son's name and coffee cup lid as we walked out the door. Portions are tasty and generous. The wireless was a bonus as I had 284 emails accrued coming back from Yellowstone.

1 star for exceptional service 1 star for a great milkshake Unfortunately the food itself didn't stack up to expectations. A Monte Cristo is my go-to at a diner, and this one didn't meet expectations. It was the 1st time I have seen it made as a double-decker sandwich which was different. The French toast was drowning in butter/oil from the griddle, which ruined it from the start. It was edible but won't be doing that again. My friend got the Pigs Fly sandwich, and mentioned the chicken was pretty dry. The nutter butter milkshake was awesome, and it was huge. I'd get that again in a heartbeat. My friend got the First Date (strawberry & banana) shake, which was also really good. Our server was awesome! Very friendly and super attentive, I don't think our coffees never got below 2/3 empty. I'm willing to give it another shot if I am just getting eggs.

Waitress was downright rude and looked offended when we asked questions about the menu. The food and price somewhat made up for the waitresses' attitude though. There is enough food to split an omelet between two people for only nine dollars. Plus the 50's theme is nice. But rudeness ruined the experience for us. Oh and the coffee was terrible. Tasted like water.

This is a dive. It's cleaned regularly and it's lost its charm. Food is something you can easily make at home and is nothing special. it's filled with old men who don't like to change. The only thing it has is a good shake, other than that the food is awful. It's over priced and the place feels likes its falling apart. The Diner needs a facelift or a TV reality show to come in and change the entire restaurant. The food is greasy, its tasteless, its easily made, its all frozen, nothing fresh, there are so many other places in town you can go and get something better. I wouldn't eat here if it was free.

I don't always feel like it's "clean" but it sure is cute and fun to grab a quick lunch. Its retro themed with bright green and pink walls and fun decor. The tomato soup is awesome (comparable to the famous 4bs but not quite as creamy). My recommendation is try the Monte cristo or the meatloaf sandwich. Yum yum yum

Maybe It was just the day we decided to go here but this place was fairly slow. I'm not typically one to complain but when you have two hangry girls with you they tend to point out every little defect. Other then the 90 minute wait the food wasn't bad. I'd give 3 stars on food. The potato skin things were bomb. If I ever go back I'll probably just order that. Friendly waitresses just sub-par on food. Again, nothing glaringly bad nor anything praise-worthy just your average restaurant. Only gave 2 stars for that 90 min wait for 3 omelettes...

We ended up here by chance during our visit to Missoula during family weekend. Everything was slammed packed with over an hour wait, so as we wandered around the town we came across this cute diner. Why not! So we all popped in and we were really glad we did. French fries, milkshakes , onion rings, club sandwiches and chicken strips. It was no frills and Ill admit, mediocre tasting. But what a fun evening we had. Great service too. I believe its a family run business. My only suggestions would be to replace the carpet, its looking its age.

Hometown, 50's style, Americana diner! Service: Very friendly. Prompt pop refills. Did not feel rushed to leave. Service is a little better before 3! Employees a little loud, but good place to go read the paper. Food: Good! Fair price. The Clark Fork scramble is good. They serve breakfast all day (but only open ~8-3 Sun-Thur, and ~8-8 Fri-Sat). The Rejuvenator (?) is pretty good, little to much ham. Good fries though! And shakes! Try the Peanut Butter/Chocolate one. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the bathrooms. Sign out front is a little nast.

I've been to many a diner in my day and this one is a must see when in Missoula. Fantastic milkshakes (the liquid cement is amazing) and hands down the best bacon I've ever had at a diner anywhere. That's saying something. Ambience is great, wait staff friendly. This is the one. Quit reading and go get some breakfast!

Food is really only a 2.5 rating. Upped review to 3 for the great waitress. Can only rate on breakfast. Very cute decor with lots of memorabilia and turquoise all over. Waitress very friendly, attentive and efficient. Our breakfast took quite a bit longer to arrive than expected. Omelet: Fillings of jack cheese, mushrooms, sausage. Delicious fillings, but the omelet itself was very dry. I didn't finish. Pan Fried Potatoes: Slices of potatoes fried with an "old bay" seasoning on top. Pretty good at first, but after a while, they seems just like overcooked potatoes. Pancakes: Very average, to maybe below average. These were also dry. Huge portions, but I did not bother to take any home because it wasn't good enough.

Milkshakes are great and huge. Have to be separated into a different cup when served!

I've gone here for over a decade. This visit the service was great. However, the steak I ordered was bland and flavorless. I'm also noticing walls and baseboards that need wiped for some time in the dining room and bathroom. Also flies tickled my legs and flew around much of the time. Overall a bit disappointed.

My favorite place for breakfast in Missoula. The menu is hearty and yummy with an old fashioned kick to the 50's. Try the breakfast burrito with their pan-fried fries and you wont be disappointed. They also make the best milkshakes. The service is pretty awesome too! The kids portions are pretty big so last time I was there the server suggested I split an order for my kiddos and I appreciated the suggestion! She also treated my kids like superstars and thats always a plus!

I have eaten here multiple times with my family. We have always had good experiences here. The staff has always been friendly. They close a little early but its a family friendly place. The food is priced very well for the quality and large portions given. We will continue to frequent the diner.

Service was great as far as the wait staff, but my tuna melt was served cold, and at 2 pm on a Tuesday they were out of tomato soup and chocolate ice cream, generally unimpressed.

Hometown 50's diner, we were there for breakfast. We had the special, which was $8.50, the Monte. It was more than enough for two people. The one waitress and cook were extremely efficient and friendly. I am sure the place is packed on many occasions, but we had a very quiet delicious breakfast. Good coffee too.

Thought I would be safe ordering a burger but it was mediocre at best. Poor quality food. Poor service. Have been here a few times and in the past it was better. Will not be going back...

I am a native New Yawker and know diners, this place is without a doubt. The worst diner in the USA. The service is horrible, with not aeven a hint of Diner culture. The service is horrendous with the servers knowing no greek, cuisine, bad burgers, horrible soup, and what can i say...

Classic American diner right in downtown Missoula, with all the standard diner fare as well as friendly staff and very reasonable prices. Open 7 days a week, 8am-3pm. The breakfast portions are massive - for under $10, you can get two eggs with crunchy hashbrowns and corn beef hash, pancakes, or toast. They also offer a variety of delicious sounding milkshakes. Lunch menu includes burgers and sandwiches. Fun place to go that is typically bustling on a weekday morning with plenty of regulars,. There was no wait for a table on my recent Saturday morning visit, though, despite it being the day for both the farmers market and flea market downtown.

The highlights of dining here are fabulous milkshakes and charming decor. Unfortunately the food is rather basic and can range from slightly greasy to soaking in grease. Personally I think there are better options in Missoula for burgers and fries. Rather I would suggest this location as a midday stop to grab a milkshake and hang out with friends. Part one of your milkshake is delivered in a tall glass complete with a cherry-on-top and part two arrives in the metal tumbler used to create the concoction. Super rich and tasty I had hard time finishing the beverage. Luckily the staff is more than happy to provide you with a to-go cup so you can continue your milkshake after your Uptown Diner ends.

Wife, kids and I loved this place. Food was good, portions generious, and wait staff friendly. Try the banana-bread french toast - my oldest (11) couldn't finish them, but I helped a bit :-). Great 50's diner-style restaurant. Not fancy (don't let the plain exterior scare you off), but the price is right, and the decor inside fun.
