This place is ok, but not great. Pretty standard menu, although it does have a lot of variety, it lacks anything that really stands out. The menu has a ton of sandwhiches, along with other grilled entrees and a variety of salads. The biggest issue I have with this place is how slow the service was. I tried three different times, thinking it may have been a fluke, but the service did not improve at all. If you have a big group and do not care about getting in and out in a hurry. There are better options in Missoula that give you a good feel for the local culture and flair.

Food here is reliable, hot, served in a timely manner. The thing that worries me--friends and I eat there each Saturday morning--is that the owners (both local families) have embraced the Rush Limbaugh radio show on a local channel. My boycott begins tomorrow. I will really miss "The Cattleman's Special"--the best little steak and eggs in town.

This trip to the Montana club was on par to my other visits to the club. The only good thing i can say about this trip was the the hostess said good evening as she sat us. Our waiter gave of the impression that we were second to him making his paycheck and tips. His waiting skills were far from good. When asked if we needed a few more minutes to look over the menu and we saying yes, it took about ten minutes for him to return. Once our order was taken we only saw a waiter twice after, once when the appetizer plate was served and the second time just before our entrees were served to refill out drinks. Now I don't know about you, but i hate sitting at a table that has not been pre-bused of the appetizer plate and the side plates. When it comes to the quality of the food, well lets just say I am a hard person to impress. Spinach Artichoke Dip Hot and creamy Four Cheese Dip loaded with Artichoke Hearts and Fresh Spinach. Served with Garlic Toast. This is how it is described on their menu. To start it was not hot and creamy, it was more warmish and soupy. As for artichoke hearts I saw very few in our dish, and I would put money on it that the spinach was frozen. The over all flavor was bland. I would have never guessed there were four different cheeses by the taste. Jalapeno Fire Burger- Crispy Fried Sliced Jalapenos topped with Melted Pepper Jack Cheese. I won't go into much detail with this one, but again not close to what is described. The jalapenos were from a can and lightly dusted in flower with some sort of seasoning that i would describe like eating chili fritos. As far as the crispy part, well they were not even close, the jalapenos were soggy. The burger was over cooked, and I only needed one of the two leaves of romaine and one of the three onion slices that were on my plate. Now I know that fries seem like something that are easy to cook and to get them right, well for some people or places it does not happen this way. My fries were warmish at best, not crispy like a fry should be and not cook in the middle. If you are looking for below average food for an above average price well this is the place for you. This place is like a upscale truck stop/ diner. The only reason i continue to eat at the club is because my family enjoys it.

This place is pretty good. Nice range of items on the menu and Ive not had a bad tasting item. Prices are reasonable and atmosphere is okay. A good lunch or easy dinner option. I wish the kids menu had a better offering though.

I find my visits here to be quite positive. This establishment is definitely a family oriented one so don't expect a buzzing atmosphere at all. The food is always large, plentiful and have reasonable pricing. If you want to have a nice meal with your family, I highly recommend this place.

The Montana Club is a great place for large parties and the cheese fries are heavenly. Service can be a bit slow but is always friendly. On the down side, the portions are absolutely out of control. I could only eat about a third of the Chinese Chicken Salad I ordered (delicious) but unfortunately the rest didn't keep (soggy dressing greens), making it a waste of money overall. I wish they would offer reduced portion sizes - not all of us are grizzly football players!

Went to the Montana Club on Easter Sunday. We were placed in a corner table a 1/2 hour b4 the buffet ended. But, we were not allowed to order from buffet. They ended it at two. There were no specials for Easter after the buffet. So I ordered fish tacos which were not authentic fish tacos. More like a fish stick inside a tortilla. The Fries were fair to midland. My wife ordered a steak which overdone. We wanted to order clams but our waitress did not know how many came with order or where clams were from. My wfes salad came about 25 minutes b4 steak. The buffet was broken down by out table and it was noisy. The staff dropped a table just a few feet from our table and the noise scared our 3 years old. Oh yes, we asked for a chil menu and manager told us it was on kids coloring page. It was not. he said he would bring one. he never did. Son got a hamburger, not as good as mcdonald, how sad.... staff actually swept the floor within feet of where we are eating. Waitress asked me how tacos were and i honestly told her they sucked. She said sorry and left the table. I also told the manager and was told by the manager that he never eats them because they are not very good. I could not order a replacement. The wait staff was young, immature, not very articulate and were not professional. It was a fast food caliber wait staff. I take my son to a Dairy Queen in Missoula, MT and i can honestly say that the staff who are on average 16 years of age are a b etter staff than the wait staff at the Montana club . I will never go back

My family was staying in Missoula on a road trip from CA to MI and The Montana Club was across the street from the Marriott we were staying in. We were informed that the restaurant delivers and bills to your room for no extra charge! My husband ordered the king cut prime rib, which was a nice thick cut of beef and very flavorful! I ordered the steak Oscar, and while the steak was a little over cooked (I ordered medium rare and it came to me more of a medium well) it was still very tender, juicy and flavorful. My kids got the chicken tenders and while they obviously came out of a box, they were very good and the kids enjoyed them. Just an FYI, I didn't notice any type of kids selections on the menu, maybe they have one when you eat in house? All in all, an excellent experience, especially for a take out meal we didn't have to go and pick up!

I have tried this place twice and both times...meeeh. The service mediocre and the food, nothing to rave about. Typical American fare. I decided to try their prime rib on one visit, eh...it was prime rib cooked to order and the sides were fresh. With so many other better places in town I don't plan on stopping in by choice.

Went here when my mother visited because it seemed like one of those places you take your parents. It kind of is, but there are much better options in Missoula. It's fine for a basic sandwich or burger, but a tad overpriced for the quality of the food. Very large portions. Service was neglectful - a long wait to order, to get our food, and finally to get the check (it wasn't at all crowded). I probably won't go back.

I dined here on a recent work trip to Missoula. It was in December right after their first snow. Coming from 'the big cities' this is the stereotypical rocky mountain log cabin. As another review mentioned, yes, there are plenty of once vibrant wild life vibrantly decorating the interior. Friendly staff, big'ol fireplace warming everyone up. The food is good quality, they had the expected varity of dead cow, pasta/pizza, burgers/wraps(I was surprised), and seafood. My personal rule is that I never order seafood in a landlocked state unless it's from the local river (i.e. Idaho tilapia). I had their Signature Marinated Ribeye, not bad. The marinara wasn't overpowering, the steak was good quality, not too fatty. The only possible problem was that the marinara didn't really complement the meat. But I prefer the flavor and texture of a well cooked slab of dead cow anyway. If you like beer, order the Moosedrool - great local beer, but in moderation, else you won't remember what great time you had...

A bit expensive for what you get, but the service was excellent and the food tastes good.

As my wife and I drove from Spokane to Yellowstone, we stopped in Missoula to take a break and grab a bite. I had no cell phone coverage during most of the drive towards Missoula, so I didn't have much time to research restaurants on my phone before arriving, if we were going to avoid another fast food chain right off I-90. I ran into a few positive reviews on The Montana Club, one of them referring to it as "authentic" Montana food, so it seemed like as good a choice as any for the (probably) only time we'd ever be in Missoula. It was a great choice. I'm not sure if there was anything particularly "Montana" about the food, but the decor certainly was. Wood everywhere with a stuffed bear and bison on the wall. It was a bit chilly inside, but the server saw me going to my car to get a jacket for my wife, and turned down the A/C for us, which was pretty nice of them. The menu itself looked like pretty typical American fare -- sandwiches, burgers, salads, some pasta and chicken, and even some pizza. But the quality was exceptional. I had a cajun burger, which was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. It was quite unique -- a blackened patty of really good lean sirloin beef with a large red pepper covering it and some cajun sauce. My wife had been craving a salad, so she got a Greek salad with some grilled chicken on it. The chicken was grilled perfectly, and it was good enough for her to eat without dressing (though she tried the dressing, and it was good, too). But the highlight had to be their "hoagie" fries. They are seasoned fries smothered in cheese with some ranch dip. I'm not sure what they did, but they were about the best cheese fries I've ever had. You can get them with almost any dish, so if you ever find yourself here, they're well worth the calories and $2 upgrade. My only real complaint was the awful country music playing. Yes, I know I'm in Montana (but isn't Missoula really the Austin of Montana?), and yes, I know I was at a Montana-themed place, but isn't there something other than top-40 country to play? Rockabilly? Old-time country? But it was really just a minor annoyance, and I forgot all about it once the food came out. I'm not from Missoula, so I don't have much to compare this place to, but I sure am glad we spent the extra 15min driving into town to eat here rather than grabbing something from BK right off the highway.

I have to admit that the Montana Club is a local favorite. It's not one of my favorite's however. The food is basic and the prices are on the high side for what you get. All of the recent times I have eaten there, the service is on the slow side. It's ok but no "wow factor". Given the choice, I usually choose another restaurant.

  • Dan H.

The Montana Club has become the stand by restaurant. Its away from downtown so even when its busy its not a long wait. The food is good and there is a decent variety. The staff is almost always stellar. Very friendly and attentive. Good selection of beer and wine. This location is also much quieter than the new location on North Reserve.

Monte Burger enough said. I don't come often. Only when family is in town. It's one of our favorites here in Missoula. Not typically packed, air conditioning, and nice friendly waiters/waitresses. We always love the food we get. No complaints. But the Monte Burger. Big fan, I typically eat healthy but once in a while one must "Treat Yoself". This is prime, wouldn't be surprised if it was 1000+ calories but hey, it's good. Also I prefer this place over the location on Reserve. This one's the original, I love nostalgia.

Let me start by saying that we are not from Montana, we are from Washington, however that part shouldn't really matter. What matters is the food, and service. When we first arrived the service was good. We were seated right away and our server was immediately there asking us what we would like to drink. Having never been there we asked that she give us just a minute to look over their really extensive drink menu. She said no problem how about I bring you waters in the meantime. We said that would be great. We decided what we wanted for our drinks in a matter of minutes however our waitress didn't come back for about 10 minutes to take our drink order. After she got the drink order she gave us about another 15 minutes to look at the menu. (WAY LONGER THAN NEEDED TO MAKE 2 DRINKS) We gave our order to her and she proceeded to NOT write anything down. She had to ask my husband 2 times what his side was. We ordered the Kobe beef with a salad and fries and the button mushroom rib eye with salad and asparagus both steaks we ordered medium and explained we wanted them with a little pink in the middle. 10 minutes later we had our salads, they were good, crisp clean and they arrived in a timely manner. We were seated at a table made for four so it was plenty big for the two of us so there was tons of room to put our finished salad plates. We put them at the edge of the table for them to be cleared (they never took them throughout the whole meal, we just thought this was odd). After waiting 30 minutes for our entrées to arrive they were both severely well done! Like so well done that they were dark dark grey throughout. We immediately asked the bus boys that had a station right behind our table to get our waitress. A server came out (not our waitress) and we explained we both ordered our steaks medium. He apologized because clearly they were extremely well done. He said that that he would get new steaks to us with in a few minutes, they asked if we would like to keep our sides. We did keep them, I ate my asparagus, very tasty and my husband had some "ok" fries.... 5 minutes later our original waitress brought us two new steaks husbands was perfect mine was very rare but at this point I was fed up. I was done with my meal. When she came back with our check (not asking us if we wanted anything else or if we needed more drinks or anything) she asked if I needed a box as I had only taken 2 bites from my steak. I let her know that we are staying in a hotel and leaving town tomorrow and didn't need a box. She left the check. No surprise nothing was taken off the bill...... Since it was my Husbands 40th birthday he wanted a little dessert he got the Chocolate Godiva cheesecake, it was very good however took forever to reach the table after we ordered it. I'm giving the restaurant 2 stars because they have enough sense to get their cheese cake from the Cheesecake Factory and that the bus boys were very nice when we needed another napkin.

A $10 grilled cheese better be AMAZING. The Montana Club's is decent, but definitely not worth the price. Husband ordered a taco salad which was huge but, again, nothing special. Interior seems to be getting a bit of wear, everything seemed overpriced. Service was mediocre. Meh all around.

Food is just average, at a higher than average price. It is the name of the place that draws you in. Sounds high class. I was expecting more. ...Better service, Better food, Better everything. Ate here twice, and disappointed each time.

This reviews is for the Billings, MT location. My husband and I went there the other day and although they were very busy the service was amazing! The waitress was very friendly and even gave recommendations on what to order. The food was amazing. The filet mignon is super tender and tasty. The mushroom appetizers were to die for and the huckleberry creme brûlée was a great end to the evening. I highly recommend this place.

This restaurant was within walking distance from the Hotel we stayed. Our visit was on Dec. 21st, 2014 and it was really yummy! ** It was just after the dinner rush - around 7:30pm. All was quiet inside. Fireplace boasted a nice looking fire complete with Christmas decorations. We had a family of 4 with us - one who ate off the kid menu. None of us left feeling hungry by any means. We each had a burger of some kind. Monte Burger - A 1/2 pound burger layered with lettuce, fresh tomato, sliced pickles, fried egg, three slices of bacon, and mayo, all stuffed between a grill cheese sandwich. [My husband's delight!] Patty Melt - Caramelized Onions have never tasted so good! All American - Bacon Cheeseburger delightful-ness! Kids Cheeseburger - huge helping of fries with that burger There was no room for any desert. In fact, I was almost regretting that I had eaten all of my salad while waiting for the burger. We'd come back in a heart-beat for a tasty burger. Our waiter was a great guy, too. He helped my husband decide on the Monte Burger!

Mediocre at best. usually I'm pretty satisfied with the food here, but not today. I picked up a salad on my way to work and was very displeased. How do u mess up a salad? I paid 13 dollars for what I feel was a bag of iceberg u get on sale for 1.50 at your local grocer, topped with an overcooked piece of chicken (maybe cooked twice or had beed sitting around) and a can of mandarin oranges dumped on top. Mt club let me down today..

The menu is HUGE. I'm pretty sure there is something to satisfy everyone. Food is good BUT not like AMAZING. Don't mistake that for being bad. I just mean, you won't leave thinking "that was my most memorable meal ever." Food quality is good and consistent and service is always plesant.

Moved to missoula 4 years ago from PA I thought the Montana club was the best when I moved here! But sadly over the years it's gone quite down hill :( 15$ for a blt that came with old bacon. The steak is sub par anymore. Sad though that's for sure:(

Even though I have already written a review for this restaurant, I want to compliment them on the new menu and selections. They have the Matador !!!!! For those who are not familiar with the Matador, it is a giant tortilla wrapped around ground beef in a special sauce, lettuce, olives, sour cream, cheese melted on top. It is huge. So do split one. Wasn't liking the raspberry lemonade today as it was too sweet, but hey who can complain when they give you half off the entree to veterans. This is a local eatery and they give back big time to the community. We admire that in an establishment. PS: Split the Matador and you will still be full and satisfied.

We usually eat at N. Reserve restaurant and usually enjoy our time. However this time was not a great experience on Brooks. We had a group of four adults, two kids and one infant so I expected a considerable wait and was told 20-30 mins which we were fine with. It ended up being 45 mins. We could have sat us sooner had they simply asked us if we would rather fit into a booth rather than wait. We would have waited longer except for my wife asking about the open booths. It would have been a nice touch for the hostess to acknowledge the wait and see if the kids could have used some water. Once sat we were greeted by a nice young lady who was very pleasant but not as attentive as she could have been considering much of the evening rush had passed while we waited. Our order was placed in a timely manner but ended up waiting another 45 after it was ordered before it arrived. We ended up spending three hours at this place. The was food was decent but all in all the experience was not enjoyable. We will probably stick to the N. Reserve restaurant in future have had much better service there.

Was pleasantly surprised by the quality and care put into a busy Sunday morning breakfast. Service was great despite being slammed Sunday morning. Good menu selection of hearty breakfast stuff like biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak, great eggs, French toast, etc. Had overlooked this for years, but will now be a regular!

Went to lunch here. The kids were happy with their meal. The service for us was not good. I had soup and salad and the soup was not very warm. The sandwich had a stale bread on top. Guess they just want to serve a lot of people but food just ok. Seems that was the general consensus of the table. We've had breakfast here and it was good but this restaurant is ok about average, a bit less. Service was lacking in a timely manner. Too bad.

Went there tonight for 1st time- it was pretty good. Service was friendly and efficient. Their menu is encyclopedic- so or if you're unfamiliar with it and/or really hungry (I was both) it can overwhelm. They have a good-size drink selection ($5 margarita night on Mondays). Food was...fine. We were out casually after an afternoon on the river- I had fish tacos, husband had a Bayou burger. My fish tacos were fine, but contained a very small portion of actual fish. The cabbage slaw in it was good- but the tacos were served on this really small plate- made for cumbersome eating. Side salad that came before was adequate. Husband liked his burger- fries accompanying were good- the same MSG sprinkled ones at Hoagieville (same owners). I'd go back, but I'm not running. Oh, PS: there were weird little bugs flying around, kinda near the ceiling.

Good for lunch. Pretty reasonable for what you get and just upscale diner style. Burger, salads, sandwiches rule the day at a joint like this and I enjoyed my black and blue burger (which you can order different sizes depending on your piggy ranking that day--yay) and it came with choice of salad or fries. Yay again for not making me eat fries! Oddly, it had a pretty ok wine by the glass list for a place like this. It's a pretty big location so even if it looks crowded, you can probably get a seat. :)

I enjoyed the boneless pork chops with mushroom and onions. Delicious! The soup should be served hot, though. This casual place was not crowded on a Sunday evening. I'll be back.

This was the only option we had on a thanksgiving evening as all restaurants were closed. We were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality even though restaurant was running full. Kids ordered razzle dazzle shake but did not like the taste. Server was gracious enough not to charge it to the bill. Steak was okay. Italian food options were better. Nice place for a family takeout.

The food, chicken picatta, wasn't bad. However, it wasn't good either - it was okay. The service wasn't bad either; but again, just okay. What was not good was the environment. Between the flies and the belching neighbors - I can find somewhere else that serves chix pic...

Came here to carb load the night before the Missoula Marathon, and wasn't disappointed for that purpose. they didn't have a large pasta selection but it was better than waiting in the long lines in downtown. after looking through the menu, I felt like this place was an upscale Denny's. food was ok but taste was standard. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, which was a tad spicy and I liked that. and for the main course I had the tiger shrimp pasta. shrimp was great, but I didn't care for the cream sauce it came in. Wish it was more of a lemon butter sauce w/o the heavy cream. no serious complaints about this place, but again I feel like they spend more of their attention on the casino side than the food side.

Food was surprisingly good.. Wait service was fast and efficient. ambiance was that of a bar though. Portions seemed larger than normal. Good bang for the buck.

Great meal and fast. We really enjoyed this place. Kids loved the food and it was a fun atmosphere. There was a small casino room and I played for a couple minutes and enjoyed the time we had.
