MacKenzie River is always our go-to for a reliable lunch along I-90. The food is consistently reliable and very good, if a little bit expensive. This location in Missoula is a bit off the road, but not too inconvenient. My only complaint would be that it was a blustery day outside, cool with rain coming down, yet the air conditioning was on. Seating and service were both quite slow. Needs attention. There's a nice playground and carousel a block and a half away if your kids need to stretch their legs while you stop.

I heard a lot of hype from my friends who I was visiting with. However, I was a little let down when I came in. It wasn't particularly busy on a Sunday afternoon. The waitresses weren't overly welcoming, but weren't rude either. In a party of 10, my order was "forgotten" and I received it only when everybody had finished eating. Our waitress didn't bother to check in. There was a lack of communication as to how the bill would be split. The wait was too long. Maybe this business needs more employees. From what I could tell, the food and beer was above-average. I had the "Mackenzie Alfredo," and was sufficiently satisfied and impressed by its flavor. Perhaps it was an off-day, but service didn't nearly match up to quality of the food.

Let me start by saying that the music they even playing when I ate there was REALLY bad. Some kind of new age jazz fusion - including what I'm pretty sure was the song from the bar scene in Star Wars. All this in a western themed pizza joint! The pizza took a bit long despite the place not being that full, however it was pretty tasty. So basically, the food it decent, that's about all I can say. I'll be hearing the crappy music in my sleep tonight.

I have been here twice now and as a frequent business traveler, I love their food. Freshest salad I have has anywhere in MT this far. Pizza was also hot, fresh, and delectable. Service is prompt and friendly. As far as pizza places go, this place rocks.

I really enjoy coming here. Their pizzas are excellent and so are their other dishes. Their salads are stupid big and their Buffalo Chicken Mac N Cheese is to die for. The service is great and the beer is flowing! Highly recommended.

How the mighty have fallen. I try to visit MacKenzie River every time I am in Montana and haven't been let down until my most recent trip. As someone has mentioned below, their pizza now seems to be a far cry from what they used to produce. Example A) The moldy pizza crust they served my family - img32.yfrog.com/img32/55… That is right, let it sink in... MOLD on their pizza crust. How is that even possible? It is possible because they don't make the crust in-house, opting instead to have it shipped in. This meal was ruined and I will not be returning when I come to town in the future. What a shame...

Why anyone would eat here twice I have no idea. First of all they don't even have a pizza oven. That's right no pizza oven. They use one of those ridiculous Chain drive belts to cook pizza on. Now this is fine for the local bar or whatever to serve up some crappy frozen pie to the drunks. This type of oven should never be an option for a place trying to serve hand made pies. Even more so since they have a few of these places around. Do yourself a favor and go to Costco if you don't really care, because the taste is a no go and the crust is doughy as hell.

I enjoy the thin crust pizza here, haven't managed to sample the thick yet (one of my frequent dining companions in Missoula has false teeeth). It is very thin, a little flaky, and pretty tasty (not greasy at all). They now have a variety of sauces, and you can even get more than one at a time if you ask nicely. :) Wide variety of toppings, extra tasty sausage! ps - the interior design of the new location is the best, western w/out a lot of kitsch. The downtown location has a lot of blankets on the walls...I get what they were going for, but the other location is just a bit nicer.

Vegan friendly pizza! Soy cheese and veggie pepperoni. If they added a vegan dessert the place would be a hit.

It was flanked on three sides by buildings and the fourth side overlooked a parking lot. It was a warm afternoon and there was no fans etc to give the deck any breeze. We ordered the Pesto Lodge Poles and they were a simply afternoon snack to go with the 2 beers we ordered.

This is one of my favorite places for pizza! Everyy trip to Missoula, about twice per year, we make this one of our stops. Sometimes we dine in, and each order a small pizza so we can all try the different types as well as a salad and maybe some wings. I really like the thin crust sausage pizza. It is the best and I usually don't like sausage on anything, but theres is great. My husband likes the cowboy...I think..It has lots of meat and cheese and well its just awesome!. We love that they do take out, and take-n-bake as well. My mother in-laws ranch is about an hour east of Missoula, and there is nothing around her so its nice to pick up a pizza and take it back home to cook because after a long day in town the last thing we want to do is cook. Not once have we ever been disapointed with the service or the quality of there pizza.

Pre-Missoula Marathon Meal at MacKenzie did not disappoint! My PBDS brethren and I dined at MacKenzie after scoping out the restos in quaint little Missoula, Montana. We were looking for a place to carbo-load and down a good brewskie. Well, MacKenzie satisfied in both departments. I had a loaded fettuccine Alfredo dish a local Missoula brewed Kettlehouse Cold Smoke Scotch Ale. The brew was impressionable and left me thinking that Montana is home to some good beer.

Stopped in here for lunch, took a long time for anybody to come take our order. The wife and I had a large Cobb Salad, it was OK, the kids had a small pizza each, which they didn't care for, said the crust tasted like cheese nips.

I have been going to Mackenzie River Pizza for as long as I can remember and I try my best to go there every time I visit Missoula. It isn't just the food that I enjoy, it is the location, the decor and when it is warm out sitting outside looking at the river which is what the movie The River Runs Through is based on. The pizza itself is good, not the best pizza I have ever had although I have never left disappointed with a meal from there, whether it be there nachos, sandwiches or the pizza it is all good. We had the Rancher and the Branding Iron pizzas and I liked them both the same, yummy yummy! On my most recent visit, today I must note that the service was especially good and we were in and out in no time flat. Mackenzie river is a must visit for pizza when you are in Missoula.

Good pizza--not the world's best, but solid, well made pizza. I've only eaten there once, but the service was prompt, the food was good enough to want to take any leftovers home, and it seemed (I was only there for lunch) like a family-friendly place too.

It's a shame that they can still call this MacKenzie River Pizza. It's a far cry from the dank gourmet pizza my brother used to bring home back in the late 90's when he cooked there. The crust has turned into a spongy flat flavorless base that pales compared to what it once was. There is little to no sauce and even fewer toppings. The menu is still close to the same but the pies don't measure up anymore. Tiss tiss.

According to my daughter, it is really good pizza(pep, saus, mush). I had some kind of bbq base southwest chicken that was great too. Kids were all happy, adults were happy...good! Atmosphere was ok, but seems a little less exciting than when the chain was new.

  • Jordan B.

Great kids options. And despite being a pizza place, went with the brewers salad and a side of the baked artichoke dip. It was great. We stopped in on a long road trip with the family, and it was just what we needed. Followed it up with a trip to the old carousel, and it made for a perfect evening stop.

I have to say I was very disappointed by this "italian" restaurant. They don't make the pizza dough themselves, we could see them wrapped in plastic already made and you can sense it's not really good either. The prices are pretty expensive and pizzas are very greasy. It has nothing to do with italian pizza ... If you go there I would rather recommend the unlimited salad and soup buffet which is a pretty good deal.

Went with two hangry children. The pizzeria was busy and situationally understaffed, but all the servers were friendly and really hustled to keep everything running smoothly. The lunch buffet was a godsend because we were able to get food in our kids mouths within minutes, averting a Chernobyl-esque meltdown. Highly recommend for families!

First, it is open on Sundays. Next, they do not try to rip you off like Bridge Pizza does by charging 6 dollars extra for a small pizza, gluten-free. Both Bridge and MacKenzie to what I understand, get their GF pizza crust from the same place, at a commercial bakery in eastern Washington State. Why the price differential? Who knows? It feels that people who have a severe reaction to modern hybridized (and who knows what else) dwarf wheat are being further punished by the steep demand for what is essentially a rice crust. Cheapest ingredients on the planet. Luckily MacKenzie leadership do not follow this trend; however both go on my s---- list for only having small crusts; no large pizza available. Really? Service is excellent. Instead of feeling like a third wheel (Bridge) or having completely incomprehensible hours (Biga), this place is actually open when people want to get a pizza. And the staff, while busy, makes time to provide _service_ - note to Bridge: This is why I am not making the pizza at home. I ordered the white zin, and ... small ... Clubhouse pizza. Coeds wandered in and out with incomprehensibly tight shorts - if you don't want to pick it out of your a--es, then consider wearing a dress instead of underwear. I want an atmosphere of romance; unfortunately the local population 'natives', this seems to go over their heads. Still, it's not MacKenzie River's fault these people have no taste in clothes as good as the pizza. Other than the casual dress code, the atmosphere was subdued. Lighting good. Music good. Booth seat comfortable. Sound level acceptable. No outlets at the booth to charge equipment. The Clubhouse is as good as the pizza I ordered last time. I only wish I had some to share with my friends. [Server was Lucas]

Mackenzie river is one of the few places I've ever been where the service is far better than the food. We wandered in early on a Friday evening and were seated right away. Our server was friendly and super attentive. We ordered the flathead stick with pesto - pretty good. Then came the pizza. We ordered a half and half- nice to have that option since most places with artisan pies won't let ya do that, but if the dough isn't that good, it doesn't really matter what you out on top. We ordered the regular crust- it was pretty flavorless, very flour-y and undercooked under the toppings. It looked good but was pretty underwhelming. The service was excellent, but I wouldn't go out of my way for their pizza.

I felt this place was hit and miss. The salads were good and but the pizza was just ok to me. I liked that they let you make the pizza half and half which was helpful with our picky crowd, but none of the pizzas really stood out to me. Also I felt our server was not framiliar with the beer menu, although they did have a nice selection avalaible.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types.
