For me the only thing better than cold smoke is the cold smoke nitro, the service was fantastic, very friendly and a great setting and atmosphere. Definitely will be back whenever we can.

Khole north is the new tasting room. It is nice new and clean: a good way to ease into the kettlehouse tradition. They usually have the coldsmoke, Eddy Out and Main stay staples here. It is also where you get the MT three beer limit. Over all nice, but lacking the khole charm and experience of the original Mertyl St.

I'm a bartender at Brideport Brewery in Portland, Oregon. I moved away from Montana last year, and I miss the mountains, the people, and the beer from back home. I always get a bit excited when I see a Montana ID in my bar; I know the person I'm talking to is probably a pretty decent person. So this week when Jake and Molly (I really hope I got your names right), walked in and flashed a Missoula address, I was happy to serve them. I didn't realize just how awesome they'd be. We got to talking about beer, Jake mentioned he worked at a brewery and was in town for the International Craft Brewers Conference, and I said that Cold Smoke Scotch Ale is one of the things I miss (among many) about Montana. He smiled and said he actually worked for Kettle House. After a pleasant conversation and a very brief tour of our facility (we were extremely slow), this kind duo said they had some Cold Smoke sitting in their hotel and would I like them to bring me some? (Actually, I think they just told me they were going to. It wasn't a question.) Who goes to a brewer's conference in another state only to give away some product to a home-sick bartender? Who goes out of their way to make an extra trip to drop off a gift for someone they barely know? Hell, cynically, I work for a group that might be considered the competition! If Jake is at all representative of the kind of people Kettle House is employing, you can't go wrong stopping by. Their beer is great, their people have always been wonderful to me when I used to go there back-in-the-day, and it doesn't seem like they've changed anything since I left. Thank you both for doing it right and reminding me that the thing I miss most about home are the people. I hope you had a great time here in Portland.

**IMPORTANT, this location stops serving at 8 pm, NOT 9 pm as their page implies. Go to 602 Myrtle St location if you want to try their beers after 8 pm.** I'm pretty easy-going, but we got to this location at 8:15pm on Sunday, August 23rd prepared to try beer as their Yelp page says they're open until 9pm. Well, they don't serve for the last hour they're open. That seems like a pretty important detail they're missing since we came to sample their beers. No biggie, they let us know their other location served later so we had a good time looking around at the merchandise and décor before heading out. Just before leaving I thought I'd mention that they might want to add some detail to their Yelp page. I just wanted to give them a heads up in case they didn't know what the page said. The young woman behind the bar interrupted me and talked over me as I was trying to explain I was just trying to be helpful in letting them know about the Yelp page. "It's the law...we don't have any control over that. Yeah...unfortunately it's the law with the license, we don't have any control over that." You don't say, Captain Obvious...but you DO have control over the content on your Yelp page, right??? Yuck, what an awful attitude. I won't be back to this location!

They have excellent beers on tap with a friendly staff! My friend and I signed up for a beer tasting tour after running the Missoula Marathon. This was our first stop on the tour. We sampled four of their beers on taps: Nitro Cold Smoke, Nitro Cream Ale, Pineapple Lemon Fresh, Double Haul IPA. I liked their Double Haul IPA. I believe it is their most popular beer. If I'm in the area ever again, I would not hesitate to stop by this place again! The tasting room was very spacious. Looked like it could accommodate a lot of people.

My favorite brew pub ever, like, since the beginning of time, is MickDuff's. It's over in Sandpoint, Idaho though and that presents a couple of problems for me. Obviously, the distance required to travel is one problem, but another is more personal. It bothers me that my favorite micro brewery is in Idaho and not in the state I so proudly call home...The Great State of Montana. Alas, it is what it is, but coming in a close 2nd is The Kettle House. What's funny is that the 2 breweries in question couldn't be more different. One (MickDuff's) is a little ma and pa outfit that doesn't even bottle, the other (Kettle House) has gotten so big, I wonder if they should even consider themselves a microbrewery anymore. KH is located in a fantastic old, brick, building that is situated next to some railroad tracks and it has old Hwy. 93 going under it. Yes, you read correctly...under it. Be that as it may, it doesn't distract from the ambiance of this place. It's a building from bygone days that's open and lets in just the right amount of light that creates a very positive atmosphere with plenty of room for you and your crew. And that just the building, we haven't even discussed the beer yet. That's why we flock here, it's for the beer! The beer that the KH puts out has become so popular that they actually had to scale back their distribution due to them not being able to keep themselves under the 10K (barrel) limit that allows them to operate their taprooms and charge for beer. It suck for me, but if you're KH, having beer that is too popular is a nice problem to have.

Cold smoke nitro was pretty good. I'm no expert but the IPA they had that won gold at the beer cup could be swallowed pretty regular but wasn't what I've come to expect of IPAs found else where. It didn't have that strong grape fruit taste and was not real bitter. Service was excellent. Only expect to be served 3 pints, they do not have a state license at this location and are required to limit the amount served to an individual to 48oz

One of the best breweries that I've ever been too. Their beer is amazing. Cold smoke is by far the best if you like darker beers.

Kettle House tasting room on N 1st is awesome. My wife and I were on a long road trip from CA to MT and stopped along the way at several craft breweries. Kettle House has been our favorite along the way and Sarah in the tasting room was very knowledgable and super fun to hang out with. Cold Smoke is my favorite Scotch Ale in the US right now. Be sure to leave with a Nalgene Growler for the hotel. Enjoy!!

Ambiance is more low key than the myrtle street brewery. Only disad is that they only have 4 of their beers on tap at any time, usually cold smoke, ipa, amber, and pale ale.

Home of Coldsmoke! My favorite! Huge location with plenty of seating. No randall tap here but they do cask aging

My beer of choice for the Kettle House is Cold Smoke Nitro, it doesn't get any better than that.

This place is awesome. Coming from the microbrew capital of... the US? The world? I tend to be pretty critical of brewpubs. And their beer. I sampled three of Kettle House's beers, and all were delicious. Cold Smoke was probably my favorite... Darker than I generally drink, but everything from first sniff to the last swig's finish was outstanding. One note though... There's a 3 pint max at taprooms in Missoula. I heard that it helped them avoid having to get a liquor license, and I guess that makes sense. On one hand, coming from Portland, it was an alien concept to me. On the other hand, 3 pints is just enough to make me all warm and fuzzy, but not enough to make me start drunk Facebooking. So it worked out well. The location itself is awesome. Industrial, hardwood floors, large room, plenty of space to bring the out of town relatives for a few pints. There didn't seem to be many tables--lots of open floor space--but maybe that's the point in a "taproom". At any rate, if you're in Missoula, this one is a must-visit. And try the Cold Smoke, even if you don't typically drink darker beers.

Previous reviewer (nice name by the way Daniel H. ;) covered it pretty well. The "3" drink limit is a State Law for Taprooms. Only 48oz can be consumed between 10am and 8pm. It's a bummer, but you've got 4 breweries to choose from in Missoula (a 2nd Kettle House location is on Myrtle St.) so have a DD and hit the others as they are all great. This location does a Community UNITE on Wednesdays where 50cents of each pint purchased goes towards that weeks charity. Always a worthy cause. Cold Smoke, Lake Missoula Amber, Eddy Out, and Double Haul are the standards on tap and if you're feeling adventurous, Brick and Mortar Porter comes at you with 10.5% ABV. Served in a snifter, don't forget to drink with your pinky out!
