I am in love with this place. I've been to New Orleans recently and the food here is pretty close to what I ate when I was down there. The Jambalaya is to die for and their Po Boys are expertly crafted. It is in an odd part of town but make the trek here because it is absolutely worth it. The portions are fairly large and I'm sure there will be some leftover if you managed to contain yourself and not demolish what you are eating in one sitting.

Always good food. Authentic po-boys. The hours have changed a bit. I try a different dish each time I go and give their red beans and rice a thumbs up as well.

Get the Bayou Po'Boy. You'll thank me later. Go eat there now, eat there tomorrow, and eat there twice next week! We have to spread the word on great gems like this in Missoula so they can take off and stay around for a long long time. I had lunch there today, and I'm headed back for dinner. So delicious. Cool atmosphere, and nice people too.

I've eaten at Cafe Zydeco quite a few times, and have always been pleased. The sandwiches are great -- good cajun seasoning, and you gotta love the roll. I also really enjoy the seafood gumbo (The gumbo and etouffee are better enjoyed in house rather than to go). The quality of the food has been consistently good every time I've gone. It's a bit spendy but the portion sizes are definitely on the large size so I'd call it a decent value. Speed of service has been up and down, but has improved since this place opened earlier this year.

Okay Missoulians and Visitors to Missoula.....Let's all work together and get this place successful. This little cafe is in the old A&W rootbeer, Quiznos, Chinese, Sandwich etc. etc. place on Brooks. For some reason nothing that has gone in there has been able to make it. Perhaps because it is in front of Ruby's, which is an institution in Missoula. It is close to Kent Street post office so next time you go mail a package, stop in. You won't be sorry. The sign is small and hard to read, so slow down when you come to that part of Brooks so you won't miss it. But we are going to do a word of mouth campaign because this place is good, good, good, and worth saving. Who would have thought Cajun could taste so good? The guy behind us One Pot Cooking and had Jambalaya, which is a Creole combo of shrimp, Andouille sausage, and chicken in a spicy Cajun rice dish. He said it was outstanding. We shared a roast beef Po-boy, because I had just had surgery and was nervous about anything too spicy. It was out of this world. Piled high with meat, cole slaw, cheese and sauce. So glad we shared because we had sweet potato fries and that put us over the top. Oh no it didn't!!!! We had to try the bread pudding with praline sauce. OMG. It was sooooooo good. The owner is Kevin Carloss and I don't know his story, but he said he got most of the interior and exterior material to remodel from Home Resources, so know he is my kind of guy. Come on fellow Missoulians, let's pass the word and keep this place going.....

Great, authentic Cajon food. Excellent and friendly service. The jambalaya came in a huge portion and was deliscious. The "all that jazz" Po boy really was all that jazz. The Cajon tots with "Swamp sauce" are a must

We had just survived a terrifying 7hour drive to Missoula from Calgary (seriously terrifying! cut off by a semi, white out snow storm, hit ice and ended up in ditch, then a horse jumped out in front of us. no, not a deer - a horse.) anyways, we were craving a great meal to celebrate being alive, and we found one at Cafe Zydeco. Cajun food! yes! Standout Qualities About Cafe Zydeco: *the service. these people actually like their jobs, and it shows. awesome customer service. *the decor. super cute little place, with kitschy touches and signs everywhere. very comfortable. *the hot sauce collection. seriously. they had probably 30 or more hot sauces to choose from, and the guy working suggested his favorites for us. *THE FOOD!!! I had Jambalaya, 'a creole combo of shrimp, andouille sausage & chicken in a spicy Cajun rice. it was amazing. I got the small size for $9.95, and it was huge. it fed 2 of us, with food to spare. Jimmy had the catfish po-boy ($10.25) and said it was really great. (actually he just said, 'Breaded fish! very crispy!') sadly they're not open on Sundays, or this would be out lunch spot before hitting the road back home!

Good quick cajun food but a little pricy. You can make identical dishes much cheaper at home. I like to come here on cold winter days.

Have wanted to try this place for a while now. I used to spend my summers as a teenager and young adult in the heart of Cajun country in Louisiana and have experienced some amazing memorable food. I think that you can judge a Cajun inspired menu by its jambalaya so that is what I ordered on my first visit. It had good flavor and heat as well as plenty of meat. I have made comparable jambalaya but it is good to know that I can get some locally if I do not feel like cooking. The location is interesting... It seemed a little awkward (layout and ordering) and dirty. The guy who greeted us asked if we had been there before and explained the menu which was nice of him. I will give this place another visit and see how I fair again. Laissez les bons temps rouler, C'est tout.

Amazing food. I had the catfish over a jumbalia with a split poor boy and fried bread pudding. Real cream on bread pudding. Poor boy was totally fresh pork and grilled green chili's. Highly recommended! !

We ordered delivery. The food was good, reasonably priced and you get your monies worth.

Okay, so I am conflicted about this review and this restaurant. Let me say first off that the food was pretty good--I had a Creole Chicken Philly sandwich, which, though it was a bit greasy, was delicious. The cook, who I'm presuming is also the owner and who brought us our food, was polite, as was the man who took our order. But I have a few major issues with this restaurant. The entire place was DIRTY. Right as we walked in I noticed crumbs, dirt, and just a general sense of a lack of cleanliness. Even if they just swept and wiped down the tables, counters and soda machine, it would have made a world of difference. Thankfully we had a highchair cover for our daughter, because the highchairs were STICKY. I didn't see the kitchen, but I can only assume it was as bad the public spaces were, maybe worse. Even so, we decided to give the place a chance. I have a southern husband, and we were hoping to find some good southern Cajun food in Missoula. As I said, the food was good, but nothing to write home about. Not to mention I took half of my sandwich home and found a long hair in the second half. I guess that can happen when your kitchen and your dining room are not clean. Even the cook's apron was absolutely covered in food--it looked like it hadn't been washed in days. I left wanting to wash my hands. I just kept trying to convince myself as I ate that the kitchen was cleaner than the rest of the restaurant. If they quite literally 'clean up their act' I would consider going back, but until they do I have no intentions of eating here again.

After a long day on the river I decided to try cafe zydeco for a dinner. I grew up in new Orleans and love that cuisine. I was hoping to really like based on the two 5 star reviews. After much dilemma I ordered the catfish tchoupatoulis which is catfish topped with crawfish étouffée. THe catfish was broiled or backed and plentiful (2 filets) but the étouffée was lacking in taste. It seemed like a bland butter sauce without that richness you'd expect. the serving size was ginormous as it was served literally on a platter. It could have served 3 to 4 people and at $17 I'd expect a better richer dish.

Well, for right now, I can only give this rather cool looking place three stars. About the cool look. Think Mardi Gras. Beads and masks and instruments hanging on the walls. True to its name, Zydeco music is playing the moment you walk in. I like Cajun food, so went for the Cajun Chicken Philly sandwich. Sauce on it was good, and chicken was tender. Service was fast too. Problem is, the chunks of chicken were really big and kind of bland unto themselves. Sort of took the flavor mix down a notch. Also, the chicken itself really was not seasoned at all. So even though the sauce and peppers tried to be Cajun, the chicken was just bland. Another thing that kinda was a negative for me, the ice dispenser on the drink machine was not working. I can honestly say I can't remember the last time I have been to a place and that was a problem. I still think this place has potential and I like that it is not something you see every day, especially up north. Maybe next time I will try the jambalaya that I heard someone else order.

As cool as it is to have this added to a seriously lacking variety of affordable meals in Montana the authenticity of New Orleans flavoring an atmosphere both miss the mark in this place. The food is boring, not spiced & really bland.

This place is AMAZING!! Hands down best food I've ever had in town. You want a sandwich that will keep you craving it long into the next day? Go with either of their pulled pork poo-boys. they get busy sometimes so call in your order, trust me, it will be worth it!

Love this place!!! This is a small but cozy cajun find, with excellent seafood gumbo and cajun tacos. I would highly recommend this to spciy food lovers as it has great flavor with a kick of heat that does not disappoint. The people are friendly and make you feel welcome. The atmosphere is amazing, I really enjoyed seeing the quirky signs and interior designs. If you go here make sure you try the beignets as well as they are a delicious treat!!

Bayou Po-boy for the win! Super yummy, great pice for crawfish and shrimp. The Cajun fries and hush puppies are delicious, deep fried (:D) sides. Casual atmosphere, go here!

The place is really hit and miss for service and food quality. Some days you cannot find silverware and the food is microwave quality. Just beware.

I ordered the seafood gumbo and was pretty disappointed. The gumbo itself was kind of bland it definitely needed some more spice to it. My shrimp was way over cooked and I didnt notice much crab or crawfish. Not bad though

The food use to be good. Now its under seasoned, bland, and completely uninspired. The bayou po boy i had was actually worse then the last time i had it. The aoli on the sandwich tasted like water. It was horrible. I m from south Texas and know what canjun food taste like and this place doesn't have a clue as of late. What happened ???

Great food. Had 3different sandwiches each one was great. The location is on a weird corner.

Have only tried the catfish and crawfish po'boys, and found both to be a little bit lacking. Not bad by any means, but the catfish was a little bland and the crawfish didn't have quite the texture I'd hoped for. The roll they use is nice and soft, but I might prefer just a bit crispier crust on it. The sandwiches are large, but still a bit too expensive at $11-12. Maybe shellfish are hard to come by in Montana, but the whole point of a po'boy is to be the people's sandwich so it shouldn't cost twice as much as other excellent and filling sandwiches in town, e.g. Tagliere and RTC. I would still go back to try some of the entree-style dishes to see how they stack up. Big plus was the speed of the service, although I would gladly wait just a little bit longer for a more flavorful sandwich.

I have been missing Cajun cooking since I left the south. This place is the bomb. Wonderful dishes that are large enough to feed the family and then some. The Shrimp Po Boy is by far my favorite, at around $10 it seems pricey until you think about burgers being almost $10 any where else in town. I LOVE this place and every time I am on their side of town I stop in to eat or get something to go. The only thing they could do better is take American Express, lol.

Finally found a good place for a shrimp taco, I just moved from San Diego and I couldn't find any place in Missoula worth visiting twice.. This will definitely be one place I will be returning to..I ordered the cajon taco.. and it was the bomb, not too cheap with their shrimp either.. I left full and satisfied for once..

Great food, only previous experience at the Helena location, in Missoula, much more room. TAKE AMERICAN EXPRESS!!!! Add a few cents to your prices, I, along with others, will not frequent when on the company dime!

Great food and beignets, and the rustic atmosphere takes you back to New Orleans. The cafe au lait needs some love, but everything else was creole-tastic!

Cajun goodness! I got the special and it was a fried mussel PO-boy! DELISH! The owner of the Missoula location owns the Helena location also, both set at very high standards! Thanks, yum yum! we will be back!

This place is a real gem. I spend a good amount of time in New Orleans and CZ's gumbo - both seafood and chicken/sausage versions -- are on a par with some of the best from The Big Easy. Also had a pulled pork po boy. Tasty and huge portions. Check this place out... You'll be glad you did.

Only 4 stars because I haven't tried a lot of the menu. I'll upgrade to 5 stars once I've tried more of their food. From what I have tried, the food was simply amazing! There simply isn't any competitors that have this kind of food in Missoula, and even if there were, Cafe Zydeco would give them a run for their money because their meals are delicious!

The best po' boy I've had in a long time.
