One of the few high-end somewhat gourmet restaurants in the Bitterroot Valley. Ate dinner one time and were not wowed, but did the Thanksgiving Day buffet and were positively impressed. Each item had a gourmet touch and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Log interior without mounted heads, stone fireplace and comfortable seating in different capacities. Wait staff was extremely friendly and the chefs were decked out in their whites and tall white hats...can't remember what they are called but it starts with "t". Once seated we were brought water and our ordered wine and then came a complementary oyster and shrimp appetizer, which was quite good. The horseradish was fiery and their cocktail sauce was tangy and good. There were two salads and two dressings, along with two soups: butternut squash (quite good) and chestnut maple (a little too sweet for me). The buffet had mashed parsnip potatoes, Brussels sprouts, garlic green beans and bread dressing/stuffing with light maple flavoring. All very nicely prepared and two rows on the large table so no crowding. Main items were sauteed talapia, fresh-carved turkey and loin of NY strip. Talapia was perfectly cooked and flavorful, the turkey ditto with pan gravy which was excellent poured over everything. Although the beef was perfectly cooked medium rare it was flavorless, needing the au jus to give it flavor. I could not handle the desserts, so my wife took a sampling of raspberry cheesecake, cupcakes, cherry cobbler and a marvelous pumpkin pie which was somewhat cheesecake and somewhat custard. Scrumptious. Ordered coffee and sipped our stomachs down a bit before leaving. The wine and coffee were extra to the $28.95 per person buffet. It was excellent and we will certainly consider it for next year. Will also give it another dinner try.

The food is good, especially the Bison Pot Pie, but it is a bit pricey given the casual service and very tacky location (although the restaurant is nice, it is in a strip mall with a sad casino).

I'm a local Missoulian and have had a few meals here over the years. I agree with a lot of the prior comments, great atmosphere, nice bar, good service, but food can be hit or miss. I ate here this week with two in-town guests. One ordered the parmesan encrusted trout and loved it. The other two of us ordered the special of the day, rib steak, and it was awful . Both steaks came rare, but had been ordered medium and medium rare. My guest sent his back for more cooking and it still came back mostly rare and not the requested medium. I should have sent mine back as well. Unfortunately, somewhat diminished an otherwise pleasant evening.

Beautiful decor with terrible service. Possibly not the waiter's fault but definitely the kitchen. In any case, we actually had to leave before main course was served because it took so long. Manager was rude and not helpful. Definitely DON'T GO!!

This is a pretty nice place to eat. Food is rich however, so if you want to eat light be careful what you order. Sunday they have a Jazz Trio playing live and a buffet brunch, but I'd order off the menu anyway, as the food in the warmers tends to dry out quickly.

Exactly what the definition of 2 stars- Meh. I've experienced better. The food was not that great. I had a steak and I expected more flavor and not so dry. The potatoes that came with the dish were just OK and the dessert tasted store-bought.

Had an absolutely fantastic experience here for dinner! I am very particular when it comes to cooking my steak and the ribeye I ordered was perfection! Tender, cooked to my specs, tasty glaze. Tony, our server was attentive and offered some good starter options; we had the elk meatballs (delicious) and the homemade, loaded chips, also delicious. Cocktails were generous....Moscow Mule was in a copper pot, not a copper cup! Highly recommend. Cook staff are creative and good! Deserts were amazing; we had the mouse and also the peanut butter balls.

I stayed at the Hilton and they deliver as room service. I ordered a burger twice medium rare and it came. Overcooked. So I went down and order directly from the bar and got some chili and a burger again. the chili was really very good but then I ordered a second time the next day and it wasn't very good. The burger was overcooked again so the last time I ordered a burger I ordered it rare and finally it came cooked about right. Overall I would say the consistency of the food is poor, the quality of the food is ok the value is poor.

So let's be really really honest. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff is super polite and we have never had a "bad meal," BUT the food is just mediocre. They have steaks and fish and chic and pork but nothing is out of this world. There are several places in town that serve a better steak. With that being said, the appetizers are amazing and so are the desserts. Servers are all kinda slow (I think they are trained to give you time) so don't go expecting to be in and out. Take your time and enjoy it.

We held our rehearsal dinner at Blue Canyon and both the food and service exceeded our expectations. Blue Canyon promptly responded to all of our family's questions. The private room was set up and available to us on time the day of the dinner - and the decorations were subtle and appropriate. Before and during the dinner the service was attentive, but not intrusive. The salad and dinner choices were varied and all of them were very good; the trout, which is a house specialty, was particularly popular. Blue Canyon even let us bring in a surprise birthday cake for dessert and did not charge anything extra for that. All in all, many kudos to Blue Canyon for making our rehearsal dinner delicious and memorable.

Disgusting! is the word that first comes to mind. The restaurant was nearly empty and the wait for food extremely lengthy. The salad was pre-made and came straight from the cooler as did the fork. Wilted and tasteless. The filet started out okay, but after eating some of the fried onions that tasted very oily and rancid, the meal became just nasty. Much of the food was uneaten and the server did not mention anything about it. The inattentive staff seemed to be more interested in eating finger foods from the side of the kitchen with their fingers and then filling plates with their hands unwashed before serving unsuspecting diners. Hygiene does not seem to have a high priority in this restaurant.

Upscale and nice but comfortable. Peanut butter dessert is awesome!!!!! Steaks are good. Fancy presentation with more exotic veggies. Jeans ok but nice shirt. Ties not required. Good room service too. Nice atmosphere. Caring and attentive waitress. Seafood selection also available.

Best burger, fries and rib eye we have had in a long time. Love the log cabin elegance, and the sweet courteous waitress as well. Highly recommend.

Consistently good food in a very Montana atmosphere. Larry, the executive chef, is inventive and sitting at the Chef's table is worth the time. Don't miss the steaks or the duck. The wild game features rarely disappoint and even the chicken parm is tasty. For those not so hungry there is a lighter fare menu.

Been here a few times on my travels to Missoula. Location is great as it is right next door to HGI & Hooters. Great place to sit at the bar and have a nice dinner. Great specials Tue to Thur...I will be back....

I had quite an interesting experience here. I have to disclose that we knew the staff that served us so we got hooked up. I was there on a rather quiet Thursday night which was fine for me but may throw some people off because it can seem quite empty for a really large restaurant. The ambiance was quite homey and they've got rustic pieces like a chandelier made out of antlers and a big moose head on the wall, so Montana! Since it wasn't very busy, we were waited on hand and foot, maybe a little too much at times but like I said, we knew the wait staff so they checked in more often than normal to chit chat. The food itself was phenomenal and plated very well. This is a classy joint and you'll pay a little more than normal for a great meal. It was still well worth it and my date and I had a really good time here!

Had a friend fly in to visit; I ordered multiple items to go for us. Worth every penny. AMAZING food. Thank you!

    1) The good: nice atmosphere, nice decor, and attentive wait staff. The food was really good, although not mind blowing. Beer and wine was classic Missoula. 2) The bad: really my only complaint was the price. The food was really good but not THAT good. 3) Bottom line: good place for special occasions. I'd come back.

Stopped in the Tavern on a Thursday night for a late lunch at 3:45. They did not open until 4 and so went in the casino. Wonderful attendant and nice people. When we got to the Tavern, Robin the waitress was very open and engaging and offered us Happy Hour drinks! We shared the Blue Cheese Smothered Flat Iron Steak with Balsamic reduction and point reyes blue cheese for $18.00 It was more than enough for both of us. Especially since the dinner came with a huge salad and when we complimented the line cook, Amanda on the blue cheese dressing, she brought over a small container to take home. It was a great experience and we will return and bring guests.

UPDATE!: I ate here again with my friend and we were blown away AGAIN. He had the Halibut special and I had the Blue Cheese crusted Steak again. SO GOOOOOOD! My friends and I ate here for my birthday and WOW! We were all impressed! It's hard to find a classy restaurant with good, QUALITY food around here since it's such a casual city. We didn't have to wait for a table, the staff was knowledgeable about ingredients and wine pairing, and the food matched the ambiance: warm and so rich! Order the blue cheese steak dinner. It's heavenly! I need to go back once or twice to see if this place deserves that final star! Will update later!

The New York steak was very tough and flavorless, frozen green beans, spinach salad good but weirdly Large pieces of peanut brittle on top, not a bad idea if it had been small amount crumbled on top. The service was excellent and friendly.

We only stopped in for dessert. The restaurant was not busy, very clean, and had a good ambiance : it was not loud and obnoxious as one would have expected from its name (Tavern) Although we were not dressed to the nines (having been on the Harley all day!), some people were. Yet, we did not feel out of place. The hostesses were nice and courteous. Our waiter, Adam, was simply ADORABLE, professional, the type of waiter I would expect from an upscale restaurant : he was very attentive to our needs, even though we did not have dinner, and thereby were not big spenders. My tea was brought out quasi immediately, and the tea selection came in the form of a wooden box, with Two Leaves And A Bud. That tells you what type of restaurant that was! My husband had a Merlot, which Adam brought out in a little carafe, and artistically, whimsically poured into my husband's glass, earning him "oooohs" and "aaaahs" from me. My husband asked how he came to do this "trick" : Adam took the time to explain that he's worked at the BCKT for 5 years and wanted to jazz up his service, so he's been trying to find ways to be creative. I just love how much happiness and pride in his work were oozing out of this young kid. Now for the food, I had a S'Mores while my husband had a dome (chocolate dome with a white chocolate mousse inside) We both loved our dessert, though mine was a tad too sweet for my taste. This is not to say that it wasn't good - I usually don't eat as sweet desserts as most Americans. My husband's dome, on the other hand, was perfect. If we ever go back to Missoula, we will have dinner at the Blue Canyon, and will request Adam for our waiter. This guy is a real gem!

First off, I would give this place 4 stars if the food matched the prices. This was the only complaint I have. The food is good, but not THAT good for the price you pay. The open dining area makes conversation a little hard, but it is possible. I had a Prime Rib Flatbread. Essentially, this is a pizza without the marinara sauce. Shaved Prime Rib covered in three cheeses and baked on a 12 inch flatbread. I was impressed and the flavor was wonderful. If you have time to spare this is the place. They are NOT quick by any stretch. There was maybe 20 people in the place and it took our wait staff 10 minutes to bring us water and take our drink order, than another 20 before he took our food order. This seemed to be the norm for the place, so I can't fault them for taking their time. However, $105 for three people was a little steep.

I will definitely return to this establishment if I return to Missoula. The service was excellent, suggestions on target, food was good and ample even within closing time. Lots of space so one didn't feel cramped.

The atmosphere is a 5 star - the wine selection could be better but the beer selection is great.

Our waitress forgot to put our appetizer order in. Then when they brought out our main course, we asked about the app and she said 'you should have reminded me.' In the end she brought out the app and didn't charge us. Honestly I was not impressed with the food or the service for the price they charge. I wouldn't go back.

I was staying at the Hilton Garden Inn, for about a week, and ate at this restaurant at least twice. The restaurant is conveniently located beside the hotel, but you'll have to walk outside to get to the entrance (no entry through the hotel passageways). The food here is really great quality food. I had salmon both times, with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Fantastic! The restaurant has a full bar, so you can pick almost any wine or liquor selection and they have it for you. We sat at the bar one night, playing board games, and drank multiple spiced apple ciders --- also fantastic! I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a good dinner, for those who don't want to venture into town. Hotel room service is from this restaurant.

Third visit in two months. Food is excellent. Great chef. Service above average. Go early to get close to the fireplace. Highly recommend the pork or the rack of lamb.

A few years ago my wife and I ate here and vowed never to return. While staying at the Hilton Garden Inn we noticed the menu had changed and the Tomahawk Rib Steak sounded interesting. We got the 24 oz steak and lobster for 2 and it was incredible. Perfectly cooked and tender. Baked potatoes were huge. Our waiter was new but what he lacked in experience and knowledge he made up for in effort and attentiveness. The executive chef stopped in to check on us. The calamari was also great! Prices are a bit high, but if the food is this good I will gladly pay for a special occasion.

I have eaten here a couple of times but went back again last nite. It never seems very busy but there are some regulars up at the bar. The food is decent. It seems to be just a run of the mill steak house but it does have bison which is out of the ordinary. The steaks are good and cooked well. The prices are decent. Its not going to blow you out of the water but if you are in town staying at one of the hotels near by it is convenient, clean, and good food for decent prices.

We were in Missoula on business Pretty middle-of-the road meal with decent prices and a nice atmosphere (by nice I mean decor reflecting the local area, classy, . I had the game special, bison. It was cooked as ordered, and had good flavor, but nothing extraordinary. They had some nice wines. The server was very good, attentive but not overbearing.

We went there for dinner last night and were completely unimpressed. The food was OK at best, and tasted like the standard fare you would get at Chilies or Applebees, frozen and prepared to order. They lobster linguine was all stuck together and not edible. For the price, I would avoid this place, and stick to either 1.) a better known chain on Reserve, or 2.) head to a non-chain downtown and have something unique.

Was in town for the Missoula Marathon (I give the event 5 stars!), and stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for its convenient locale. On the first night, I was so tired from flying 3 stops to get here from atlanta, Ga that I just wanted to find a dinner place close by. well, you can't get closer than next door to the hotel. I didn't know the hotel and the rest't were even affiliated until after I had dinner. I started w/ the lobster bisque which was ok...why am I ordering seafood anything up here in buffalo country anyways?? habit i guess. Then for the main course I ordered the 16oz. Ribeye, cuz I'm thinking: "I'm in MT, I should eat meat!". to my surprise, I was so disappointed w/ the steak. couldn't believe that I wouldn't experience one of my best steak moments here in MT! I think I've even had better at chain rest'ts. the cut of meat was ok, but I think the real problem is that it's affiliated w/ the hotel and it's more "hotel style" food (plus maybe the rest'ts here focus more on the casino side than the food side). it just tasted very bland, could've been seasoned or grilled better. I kick myself now, but after the marathon I couldn't move so I ordered room service...and guess where my food came from again?! yes, Blue Canyon indeed. I ordered the blue cheese burger and I swear I could've used that beef patty as an ice hockey puck, it was that dry and hard (maybe it was b/c I ordered it medium-well but still I've never eaten anything that dry and hard). Lesson here is: I'm sure there are great rest's in town, just don't go to ones associated w/ a hotel next door if you want awesome food.

We have been to this place 3 times now. We may go back, but only because waiters in this town universally have no clue. As that opening may imply, our dinner experience was marred by the waiter who acted attentive, but was an ass. I asked for a Bayern Pilsner, I was served a pale ale that was possibly from Big Sky. He asked if we would like bread, we said yes, 15 minutes later I asked where our bread was and he looked surprised. At no time after I had finished my drink did he ask if I would like a refill. The empty glass sat ignored on the table for a good 30 minutes, while we had our desert. The food was only "good" in comparison to other, lesser restaurants in town. Like Higgins Alley. In San Francisco they would be gone in 3 months.

So it's a week night, and I'm not wanting to cook after a long day at work. My husband and I decide to go out but wanted to try somewhere new. We had gone to the local pub before, so we thought we would try the restaurant. WOW! What a great restaurant and experience it turned out to be. We started with a crab potato skins appetizer (potato was way too hard, don't recommend this). We next had salad, which were very very delicious and creative. YUM. Lastly, we had the chocolate pyramid, this was a suggestion from our server, it was awesome! Trust me, it's not on the regulare menu, but give this a try!!!! Such a great place to go.
