Filling. But I wasn't exactly blown away. I ordered a decent sandwich and a cup of tomato soup. I basically felt like I could've made this exact thing at home and could've paired it with a better soup. As others have stated, the soup is just "ok." Altogether, it was almost $9. Absolutely worth a visit, especially if you have hungry little kids. Food is delicious and comes out really fast even when they're crazy busy. We did try the donut cheese sandwich and replied "oh that was good, glad we tried it once." The rest of the options are even better than it was. We've been here a few times and haven't ever been disappointed with our sandwiches. Try the roast beef and cheddar. Toddler factor: Yep, they have several high chairs and they're pretty clean too. Room in between tables is sufficient and you can often find a table up front where there's more space. If your kid likes grilled cheese, you're all set here. They even have fruit as a side so it makes you feel just a little bit better about the visit.

I have had Tom and Chee at the original Cincinnati location and loved it. There was just something "off" about this place. I ordered the same thing I had in Cincinnati, the bbq bacon sandwich and a cup of tomato soup. The soup lacked the creamy flavor that I enjoyed in Cincinnati. The sandwich barely had any bbq chips on the sandwich so it didn't have nearly as much flavor as it should have. We then tried several of the donuts. They were pretty good. I don't recommend the choco bliss. It's heavy and the bacon is overpowering. The "King" was great. It was light and flavorful. I don't know if I will return because it's a little out of the way, the service was a little slow although they advertise it as a place to get a quick lunch and the sandwiches are just mediocre which is disappointing for something that cost about $6. The soup was another $3 and we had a sodas. 4 of the donuts (we shared them) cost me over $23.

Grilled sandwiches, salads, and soups -- and grilled DONUT sandwiches? How can you not try this place at least once. Tom + Chee is a good example of a growing trend in restaurants: do a simple menu and do it well. Just like its neighbor in the strip mall two doors down -- Yat's -- Tom + Chee is betting you'll just want soup and a sandwich every now and then. Well, I liked what I tried, for the most part. I had half a Flying Pig (turkey, crumbled bacon, pickles, smoked Gouda) and half a crunchy garlic chicken (chicken, onion, tomato, garlic, sweet hot mustard, garlic Parmesan kettle chips, pepper jack). I wished the grill was using butter and not the oily butter substitute I tasted. I also got to taste a Bacon Blue and a Swiss Shroom. Sandwich fillings are tasty and satisfying but again -- where is the butter? Please, grill your sandwiches with butter! Got a cup of Beef Vegetable soup which reminded me of Soupman Soup (Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi" really had a grocery product). Again, it had an oily finish. Great flavor but too much oil. Tried a Choco Bacon Bliss grilled donut, too. I'd rather have a bacon long john from Titus Bakery but this was similar in flavor. If you have a simple menu, it needs to be solid. Tom + Chee is almost there, not quite, but worth a try.

Grilled cheese restaurant??? How much better can it get? The food is great and definitely a good price.

I'm a big fan of Yats, and this Tom+Chee is right by a Yats. So I've walked by and seen T+C's sign multiple times when on my way to get my chili cheese etouffe fix. The hubs had tried T+C a couple of times without me and had really liked it, but like an addict, I'd always pick Yats when in the area...until last night. Starving and hangry, we stopped in, and in my haste to order, I picked the first thing that caught my eye - grilled mac n cheese. It's essentially what it sounds like - grilled cheese with mac n cheese in the middle. Quite tasty and definitely big! However, after I started chowing down, I found myself scanning the menu board on the wall and noticing some of the donut grilled cheese sandwiches... Bacon? Chocolate Marscapone? Donut? Mozzarella? All in one? Sign me up!! So I pawned off the rest of my sandwich on the hubs in order to save room for the Choco Bacon Bliss sandwich! Can I just say - heck yeah! It was TASTY! I know it may seem like an odd combo, but take a leap of faith and try it! The chocolate is not overwhelming, and there's plenty of bacon. It's less than $6, so you aren't out much if you don't like it. Plus it's a fair size if you do like it! Adding to the experience, we had great service - particularly the food runners who bring it the food after you order at the counter! So friendly and conversational! We were impressed. It's safe to say we'll be back. Next on my list to try: S'more donut grilled cheese! :) Mmmmmm!

The service at this location was EXCEPTIONAL! And the food was absolutely delish! The cashier gave great recommendations. Foods tasted: -Crunchy Garlic Chicken -Strawberry Lemonade Donut -Tomato Basil Soup

Good sandwiches, but pricey. I really enjoyed my flying pig, Gouda is a perfect cheese for grilled cheese. No chips come with the sandwich. If it was a colder day I would have tried the soup, but it was a hot summer day. It's a small location, but there are tables and chairs and you can watch them make the sandwiches. Dessert was fun! It was tough to decide, but we shared the strawberry lemonade donut.

I have wanted to stop in since I saw them on Shark Tank. I was excited to see them in Indy, but it is basically an overpriced grilled cheese. I got the turkey pesto and I did like that it had real turkey meat and not lunch meat. It was like turkey leftover from thanksgiving. The pesto was good, but it was strong, and by the time I ate my 2nd half I was over it. I think I would have been happier with plain grilled cheese. My husband said he liked his, but he agreed it was expensive for what it was. Dessert was the best part. If we come back it would be for dessert only. We had the strawberry lemonade and it was really good. I would love to try some of the other dessert offerings. And I am being a complainer, but I was annoyed we were charged for water cups. I don't drink soda and we had just come from the AMC right there where be paid like $8 for a soda for my husband so he didn't want one either. But I know the cups cost money, but I can't think of a time where I spent $30 on a meal and had to pay for a cup. They had seats by the kitchen so that would have been cool to watch them making the food.

This place was AMAZING. I was so indecisive and everything sounded so delicious that I had to get two sandwiches.. I don't regret this in the slightest!!! So my first sandwich I got was the pesto turkey grilled cheese (I added bacon). WOW. It was so freaking tasty!!! I really think everyone needs to try this sandwich because it's an automatic winner in my book! The second sandwich I got was the blueberry blue because I obviously needed to try their grilled cheese on a glazed donut sandwich that made them famous. It did not disappoint!!! It was so sweet and savory I was sad when I took my last bite!! The whole donut-cheese-creamy sweet cheese-blueberry sauce-and blueberries combination is BRILLIANT. I can't wait to go back and try even more! Except I will probably be tempted to just stay with my first choice of the pesto grilled cheese and the blueberry blue (because they were THAT GOOD). Only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5... Their tomato soup didn't taste good at all. That didn't bother me though because I don't like tomato soup anyways.

YUM. I went here with my dad and my brother. I like to pretend to be an adventurous eater, but I'm not. I got the crunchy garlic chicken sandwich which was very good, but my brother got the donut grilled cheese and let me try a bite and I was instantly sad that I didn't get one myself. It was about ten times better than I thought it would be. The reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 was because I thought their creamy tomato basil soup left quite a bit to be desired. Wasn't too crazy about it. We live on the east side, and this place is on the west side. So it's a bit of a drive, but we will definitely be back!

I have visited Tom + Chee once before it came to Indianapolis when I was in Louisville, this was a few years ago and I don't really remember much from the visit besides the fact that the menu was pretty hilarious because it was like every variation of grilled cheese you can imagine. So I was excited to re-familiarize myself with the chain when it opened in Indy. Finally got a chance recently. We were looking for some food before a movie and thought this would be a good fast option that we can have a sandwich and then pig out on popcorn later! Staff was very friendly and food came out pretty fast! I got the BLT + Chee. It was ok, I wasn't blown away by the flavors, it almost tasted a little old? My husband and mother seemed to enjoy theirs more and I will probably get a different sandwich next time. I am not ready to give up on this delicious concept. My husband got the Flying Pig and my mom got the simple Tom + Chee. I definitely want to try this place again since I did not get a chance to try any of their dessert options and I am so intrigued!

It's sad, but my husband & I waited patiently for months for Tom+Chee to open, simply for the absurdity of the restaurant concept. **A grilled cheese donut? What?** We made our first journey to Tom+Chee for lunch this past Sunday. We wanted this franchise location to get a few days/weeks of business under their belts before we judged them...(& yes, this is a chain). We bought 3 sandwiches to split to get a sampling of some of the offerings. I've outlined what we got & our impressions below. We felt it was a bit pricey at around $22 including drinks, given the type of food. Overall, we would probably return to Tom+Chee, but this will be a *visit rarely* location on our list. We both felt disgusting & guilty after our first visit. Maybe when March rolls around, and it has been months since exposure to the State Fair or Festival food, it might sound good again. Also, it is a shame they didn't build this in one of the bar districts in town, this would be killer "drunk food." A few notes on the menu: the majority of their soups are tomato based, thus the "tom", but when we were there they also offered a potato leek soup. I didn't try this, but I appreciate special non-tomato soup options since I'm allergic to tomatoes. You can add chips to any of the sandwiches there. As someone who grew up eating my chips on my sandwich instead of as a side dish, I think this is awesome. I grabbed a copy of the menu so I can finally convince my mom that I'm not THAT weird...They also list that they have Gluten Free & Vegan options on the menu, although I did not investigate. The restaurant itself was clean and well-staffed when we were there. They were busy on a Sunday afternoon, but we did not have to wait for a 2-top table. You can also opt to sit at the bar & watch the kitchen crew working while you nosh. Our wait time from order to food was less than 10 minutes. What we tried & what we thought: * ORIGINAL GRILLED CHEESE DONUT- This was served with 2 slices of cheddar cheese on a glazed donut that had been cut in half & then grilled "inside out." It was ok. I was expecting the saltiness of the cheddar to shine through the cloyingly sweet taste of the glaze a bit...but alas, it just tasted sweet & "buttery." They have a challenge where you try to eat 12 of these and I wonder if there's a cardiologist who comes over & shakes your hand afterwards and sets up a clinic visit? *BACON+BLUE- This was a grilled cheese sandwich with blue cheese, mozzarella, & bacon, on sourdough. There was a generous portion of crumbled/chopped bacon on the sandwich and a lot of cheese. I personally thought the blue cheese was a little lost, but my husband thought it had a good balance of blue cheese. Let's be honest, my palate was probably blown after having just eaten a cheddar on donut sandwich... I thought it was a little overly-heavy on the "butter" part of the grilling, and it tasted more like a synthetic "frys all" style butter blend instead of real butter. *CHOCO BACON BLISS- This was a grilled donut filled with bacon, chocolate pieces (Hershey classic milk chocolate), chocolate mascarpone, mozzarella. Of the 3 sandwiches we tried, this is the one I would return for. It's disgusting, but a delicious kind of disgusting. I thought the mozzarella on this dish sounded like a horrible idea, but it surprisingly blended well with the other ingredients. The chocolate mascarpone was yummy. My only complaints with this one were a) too much "butter" like in the above, and b) I would like to see a better quality or darker chocolate used, rather than Hershey's original milk chocolate.

Stopped by this afternoon for lunch to check this place out since it opened late last week. It's a neat concept, but the quality of the food and the prices will probably keep me from coming back anytime soon. Tom + Chee is a Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese sandwich shop. You can get crazy with some of the sandwiches, like adding them to a donut instead of bread, take the 13 donut grilled cheese challenge, etc... the bottom line is that this place sells grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.. and it isn't cheap! For $10, I did a $3 cup of tomato soup and half of a grilled cheese sandwich with pork and pickles on it (and a small drink). The bread was a little too greasy for me, and the tomato soup tastes just like mom used to make.... out of a can. Perhaps they haven't quite hit their stride yet since they did just open, but it leaves a lot to be desired. Also noted was the fountain drink machine, with one of the items covered up because they had run out of it. Out of something on day 4. Not good.

I really couldn't be more disappointed with this place. If you tout Grilled Cheese and Tomato soup in YOUR NAME, it had better be good. Not so much. I ordered the regular grilled cheese and the creamy tomato soup. I always start with the basics. If you can do that right, you can probably do the fancier stuff pretty well. I will never know about the fancier stuff. I won't be going back. Our sandwiches arrived with unmelted cheese. Like, seriously unmelted. My first comments were "is this a joke?". Once we got our servers attention and showed him what we had been served, he agreed it should not look like that and took it back. Both sandwiches arrived again and honestly weren't much better. The apology came with an excuse. "The cook got in a hurry". How can that happen? Your claim to fame is comforty cheesey delishishness. It takes time. Another gripe - the tomatoes on the grilled cheese were not ripe or melted into the cheese. Yuck. The tomato soup was okay. Nothing special. We did have a cup of the blue cheese chili. Sounds weird, but it was pretty good. For our trouble, they gave us some to take home. Not enough to draw me back. I'm not going to go to a grilled cheese shop for chili. We spent $30 for 2 sandwiches with small soups and two drinks. It's grilled cheese, get your price point right. I waited and waited for an opportunity to hit this place up. I had high expectations. I love grilled cheese. Gourmet grilled cheese? Yes please. Big let down. I wouldn't bother.

I'm a big fan of grilled cheese and I really wanted to love Tom and Chee, but I would say it's more of a like between us than a love. The place was jammed packed at noon on a Friday, a good chunk of the restaurant taken up by a large group. The line moved quickly and my group was able to find seating together after a couple people left. I ordered the bacon and blue which had bleu cheese, another kind of cheese (I don't remember which), and bacon bits on sourdough. It was good but I don't know if it was $6.95 good. I would have liked more bleu cheese. It was the perfect amount of toasted. I would/will come back, but I'm going wait until I'm really craving a gourmet grilled cheese.

I'm a cynic at heart. Because of this, I fully expected to walk into Tom+Chee for a second visit and be slightly less enthused than I was on my first. Put on your shocked face because I wasn't. In fact, I just might be more motivated for future visits. As much as I wanted to indulge on the items that made me ridiculously happy on my first encounter, I forced myself to try new items. After a bit of hemming and a little hawing, I opted for the Grilled Mac+Cheese, a dipper of the Clam Chowder, and the Barbara Blue. Yes, this is too much food for one person. The plan was to have half today and the other half tomorrow. A great plan, but alas, it was not to be. The Grilled Mac+Cheese was good. Great? No. But a solid thumbs up, nonetheless. I will most likely not go this route in the future for two reasons. 1) The intense carb coma that follows is almost unmanageable, and 2) I definitely preferred the Italian I had last time. Not to mention it's going to take me quite a while to wind my way through this menu. The dipper of Clam Chowder was good, but I wish I had ordered the Creamy Tomato Basil instead. It would have been great to dip the Grilled Mac+Cheese in it. The sandwich was begging for it. I'd heard such rave reviews of the chowder I didn't think the decision through. Again, good chowder, just not the greatest. I think it will be a very popular option in the upcoming cold days. The Barbara Blue. My heart pittered at first bite. I took a second and, sure enough, it pattered. Delicious doesn't even come close to describing this donut delight with it's creamy brie, blueberry goodness, and thin slices of ham heaven. Sound weird? Yeah, it kinda is - on paper. But it doesn't taste weird. Not. At. All. It's scrumptious. Just close your eyes and take a bite. I bet you have another.

I'm not sure why this restaurant has three entries, but it is a solid four stars on any of them. Indianapolis deserves some trendy victuals, and this fits the bill pretty well. Grilled cheese is sort of a one-trick pony, but there are plenty of meat options here to keep things interesting. I'm a fan of the mac n'cheese sandwich. The grilled cheese doughnuts are a mixed bag---more of something you'd want to try once rather than every time you go... but the mint one is pretty interesting.

Perfectly good and delicious. I suppose it isn't their fault for being a 3 star for me since it is their business model, but in the end, it was grilled cheese. I got the most elaborate thing I could find on the menu which was something like the "armagehdon" or some funky way of spell Armageddon. It had pork and spicy peppers in it as well as spicy cheese. I was warned it would be REALLY spicy but it ended up being pretty mild. Not a concern for me, it was flavorful regardless of spice level. I feel like I tried the most flavorful item here, but in the end it still felt like a grilled cheese sandwich. I'd come back if I'm in the mood for one, but honestly, it doesn't have the pull factor I look for in places so I'm not sure when I'll be back.

Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup may be my favorite comfort food. And with the current low temperatures, comfort food is exactly what we were looking for when choosing our food options for the day. The staff was great and explained the menu very well when we were asked if we were first time visitors. There are so many options to pick from including customizable sandwiches. We decided to choose one of their specialty sandwiches and two of their soups. Everything we ordered was good and we have no complaints on the quality of the food, but nothing blew us away. It's a place we would be willing to visit again because there was so much to pick from but their prices are a little on the steep end for a sandwich and soup joint. For our two bowls of soup, one sandwich and two drinks we spent around $25. The location is still new so hopefully after awhile they can work though the kinks I have seen others complain about and maybe even lower their prices. In the mean time if you are looking for a quick and cheap place this is not your stop.

Decided to finally go to this restaurant and was really in the mood for grilled cheese, which really doesn't happen that much. I decided to get a plain grill cheese with chicken. I got a cup of chunky tomato basin soup with it. After all the wait and finally getting out to the spot, I was not overwhelmed. The sandwich and soup didn't have much flavor. The sandwich really lacked the cheese. If your specialty is grilled cheese, I want the cheese oozing out the sides. I don't want you to be conservative with cheese in a grilled cheese sandwich. The soup was just ok. I have had better grilled cheese in a place where their specialty was in something else. Not to mention the prices are too high. $12 for a grilled cheese and a cup of soup. If I got something to drink it would have been close to $18. It was an experience, but one I'm probably not going have again.

You have to be crazy to not love Tom + Chee!! They are not the fastest but my sandwiches are piping hot and delicious. Not to mention the creamiest of tomato soups. I was so excited to her they were finally opening one of these franchises in Indy. After our trip to the original one in Cincinnati, our mouths were watering until the West side opening! Some of my favorites include: - The doughnut bread with cheddar, bacon, and creamy tomato - The Grilled Mac & Cheese (Speaks for itself) - BBQ & Bacon (with BBQ chips inside the sandwich!) Haven't had a sandwich I didn't like! Staff is friendly, clean restaurant, and so yummy.

Just visited Tom + Chee for the first time yesterday and was really in the mood for some "comfort food" on a gloomy day. I must say, the service from start to finish was friendly and being the first time I had darkened their door, patient. The menu is fairly easy to navigate, but the number of choices can be a little intimidating. While the thought of a grilled cheese with a donut is kind of tempting from a novelty standpoint, I went with the more traditional sourdough bread and Swiss cheese option with a creamy tomato basil soup. Overall, the lunch was very good and filling, but I did have that moment of: yeah, but it's a grilled cheese and soup. To that end, I found the meal to be a little on the pricey side for what I received. Still, the food is very good and service is friendly, so I might find my way back there at some point.

Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup with more graphic design. The basic idea is that you custom design your grilled cheese sandwich with your choice of cheese (including the possibility of "fancy cheese" and meat and then pick a a side such as tomato soup. In and of itself, it's basic grilled cheese with a tomato soup that is more like a marinara sauce but that is perfect for dipping. It's average. Nothing special but not terrible. The above should earn a 3 star review. Where did they go wrong? Be prepared for a substantial check relative to a fast food sandwich. $23 for two people for fast food lunch is a bit steep. A tip line on the credit card receipt at a place where you bus your own table is really just downright tacky.

Some good items on the menu - but some a LOT better than others. Beware average sandwich is a calorie bomb (700-800 cal easily). The biggest problem is value for money. Better options in the same strip mall.

  • Evelyn Y.

Disappointed. The atmosphere was fine. The service was fine. The concept is great... but... the food wasn't good. I ordered the TomChee, which I suppose is the signature sandwich. It was ok. I also got a bowl of the chunky tomato soup and it was not good. I had a bag of chips and a free cup of water. This meager lunch cost more than $11. If it was the best grilled cheese and tomato soup I had ever eaten, I would not complain about the price but it was mediocre to bad. I will not return nor recommend. With their price structure, this chain will fail for sure.

A comfort food lunchtime spot?? Rainy days in traders point will never be the same again. I've only been once, but I'm already hooked (rare for me, as I usually like to try 3 times before reviewing). Efficient layout, quick service. Appreciate the non-dairy options. I also like being able to tell that the tomato soup is made from REAL tomatoes, not heavy cream dyed with red 40. This place would roll deep in Broad Ripple or downtown, but I'm perfectly fine with hoarding it all to myself up in the 465 NW corner. Thank you munchy gods for sending us this gift!!

OKAY, so I was super excited about there being a restaurant all about grilled cheese. The food was a pretty decent portion for the price, but I don't know that I would go back considering these are all sandwiches I could make easily at home. In addition to the concept the lay out was quite awkward. Half their soda machine was not working properly and the seating was very crowded and a little overwhelming when busy. Personally I thought the butter flavor to the grilled cheese was overwhelming and I didn't really enjoy how buttery it was. My son got the Mac n chs grilled cheese but he wouldn't eat it, the Mac and cheese was cafeteria style where the noodles were kinda squishy. My husband got their custom made bacon and ham grilled cheese which he ate but said nothing extraordinary about it. For 4 grilled cheese it was 40 dollars and too much for considering the experience. It was fun to try, but I will not be going again.

I saw this place on Shark Tank last year, and when I saw they were opening up near my work, I wanted to try them out. Over all, they're a good addition to the fast casual lunch scene, but nothing groundbreaking. There are a few kinks to work out, and they get pretty slammed at lunch, but if you're in the area and like cheese, I would try it out. I went for lunch with colleagues around noon, and although it was busy, we were able to order quickly and get a table. The staff seemed a little overwhelmed -- we had to wipe down our own table, and there were several confused looking servers wandering around the crowded space. I'm sure some more training/experience will smooth out this aspect of things. We ordered at the counter, and were given little numbers so the servers could identify use when our sandwiches were ready. Our sandwiches came out pretty quickly -- under five minutes, and the server who brought them was nice. I ordered the crunch garlic chicken, and so did another person I was with, and the third member of our group ordered the tom + chee. Everyone was satisfied with their sandwiches, but we all agreed they were pretty greasy. I was actually sort of surprised by how bland mine was -- it had mustard, pepper jack, and potato chips (in addition to the chicken and garlic), but mostly it tasted like garlic. However, the people I was with liked it and we all agreed we would be back again. I think they need to tone down the garlic a bit -- my friend who ordered the Tom and Chee (cheddar, tomato, basil, and garlic) agreed that hers mostly tasted like garlic too. I'm not sure if the greasy over garlic-y flavor is standard for the chain, or some growing pains for a new storefront. I'll be back, but I'm hoping for less garlic and grease in the future :) If they fixed that, I'd be there every other week -- as it is, it's probably a once every 3 or 4 months thing.

I actually like this place. The grilled cheeses are fantastic. The tomato soup is also quite good. What brings down the rating? The space is just plain boring. You're constantly reminded that this is basically a fast food joint. Also, it was a little weird that their were about 8 people "working" in the back (most of them were just standing around) when I was the only one there. I understand that they were there in anticipation of the dinner crowd (I was there at 5 PM on a Wednesday), but I still hate to see that.

Meh. I love cheese, a lot. More than any one person should. I was so ecstatic to try this place... and walked away wishing I had just gone to, well, just about anywhere else. I had the bacon and blue cheese sandwich with the blue cheese chili. The sandwich was more bacon than cheese, which normally isn't an issue (I love bacon, too)... but it overpowered the cheese and fell flat on my tastebuds. The chili tasted like canned chili with some blue cheese crumbled on top. Again, not what I was expecting. All of this would not be an issue if the prices didn't seem on the higher end considering the quality of food you get. I may give this place one more chance, but overall I left thinking "what's all the hype about?"

On the fence until I make a return visit. The staff were friendly and the food served quickly (you order from counter and they bring you your food). I had a regular grilled cheese (the Tom+Chee) with a cup of Blue Cheese Chili. The bread was really good, but the cheese was just ok (overall, a little dry). The chili was thick and rich - very good, but a whole bowl may be too much. We also ordered a sandwich with turkey, bacon and gouda. Surprised that the turkey was dark meat, but at least it wasn't cheap deli meat. Also got a cup of the tomato soup. Very fresh tasting, but could have used some salt or seasoning. Finally, we tasted a grilled cheese donut with -- get this -- mozzarella cheese, bacon bits, mascarpone cheese and chocolate bits (they forgot to include the chocolate). VERY rich, but surprisingly tasty. Who would have guessed! I am curious to try the other donut selections since several had unusual ingredients. Our meal with two sandwiches, two cups of soup, two small sodas and one dessert cost around $31.The place was really noisy (and busy) and was a mecca for kids. I do plan to go back and try a few more things on the menu.

For a concept this simple to succeed, the sandwich needs to be much better than the customers can make at home. In my personal experience, the sandwich was below average with not enough cheese and too much garlic flavor. Moreover, I don't understand why they chop the tomatoes rather than slicing them. This results in tomato chunks falling out of the sandwich onto your lap and shirt. A large drink, grilled cheese, and cup of tomato basil soup should cost less than $10.80. To quote the Sharks, "I'm out."

  • Derrick T.

Everyone should try this place once, because it's a novel idea. The soup and sandwiches are good, but at some point during your 3rd or 4th visit you'll say to yourself, "Ya know... all I'm really doing here is eating a grilled cheese sandwich and having tomato soup." And you'll wonder what's really so special about it. That's when you'll realize that this place is ok, but nothing to write home about.

I have no idea why they have less than a 5-star rating. Love the diversity and flavor combos!! Very strange that they offer a grilled cheese DONUT, but it appears to be a big seller. I didn't get it, but my cousin did and she enjoyed it. I love that they serve a bowl of tomato soup, or just a little cup to dunk your sandwich in. Adorable!

Ugh. I wanted it to be better than it's Cincy brother, but it's the same. Greasy and overpriced for what you get. Don't get me wrong, a grilled cheese and cup of tomato soup really hit the spot some days...but probably just make it at home.

Cashier was unclear and confusing. Salad left much to be desired and my ham + chee was literally nothing I couldn't have made taste the exact same at home. Don't get me wrong, the ham + chee was good, however, much too pricey for something I could make for less than half the price. Likely won't be back.

Cheesy Fun! I had the Italian: salt & vinegar chips+pepperoni+ham+mozz+hardy white cheese on sourdough bread Grilled Cheese Experience. Added the Soup of the Day: Buffalo Chicken: Creamy Chicken delight with Hunks of chicken and not-to-over-the-top spiceyness ... I got a bowl to go so I could eat it later since we were here for 99th Indy 500. My sis says they were on Shark-Tank so we gave it a whirl !! It did not dissapoint. The staff was EXTRA friendly and VERY Helpful and patient... Painstakingly going over details of the menu items ... lucky it wasn't too busy. Sis took The Classic Grilled Cheese Donut for dessert. Lots of Hot Grilled Melted Cheese! All items between $3.50 to $7.95 -- for the Loaded Armagoetta: goetta+spiceyness cherry pepper+fried onion+pepper jack+ hardy white on pumpernickel rye. You can build your own Salad or Grilled Cheese or have the Chunky Tomato Soups. Just Enjoy and have fun! :D

Cheese. Carbs. And butter...lots of it. What's not to love? (Besides my clogging arteries and expanding waistline). When I used to live in Chicago, there was a beloved grilled cheese place that reliably satisfied my cheesy cravings (Cheesie's Pub & Grub). I greatly missed it upon moving back to Indy because there was nothing remotely comparable here...until now. When I found out that a Tom + Chee recently opened in the area, I was beaming like a 6-year-old girl who just met Elsa from Frozen. After studying the expansive menu, I selected the mac and cheese grilled cheese and a cup of blue cheese chili. When I first bit into the sandwich, the creaminess from the macaroni instantly hit me, followed by the perfectly buttered, slightly crispy bread. It was full of glorious gluttony; I'm fairly sure that if I had wrapped myself with butcher paper, grease would have oozed out of my skin and made the sheet transparent. (Only criticism: Wished a sharper cheddar was used!). The chili, on the other hand, was quite disappointing. It tasted like it was straight out of a can, and I did not see nor taste any bleu cheese. Don't waste your money and calories on it. Given the restaurant's concept, it should be no surprise that the food here is extremely indulgent and probably should be consumed sparingly. That said, I would highly recommend checking it out...just you know, try to workout earlier that day to minimize guilt/regret/lethargy :)

I have visited this location and one in Cincinnati. What a genius concept! Who doesn't love grilled cheese and soup? I love this place because it is the only one Indy and I love supporting small businesses. It is the perfect destination for a quick and delicious lunch. They have lots of options including customizable grilled cheese sandwiches. All the sandwiches are wonderful especially the grilled cheese doughnut. Don't doubt it, just try it. It is perfection. Also all the turkey and ham is fresh and flavorful. My favorite is the blue cheese chili, it has just the right amount of blue cheese crumbles on top. Can't wait to visit again! I hope they open more locations in the Indy area.

I was pretty excited to find this place. Who doesn't love a good grilled cheese and soup lunch on a freezing cold and crappy winter day? I do wonder though, how well this place will do during the summer time when it's hot outside. Vitality bowls is going in just a few doors down from them so they will def have competition, but this area that is heavy on large businesses and office buildings needs more places to dine for lunch. Soup was excellent and grilled cheese was very yummy. I only didn't give 5 stars because I compare this place to my beloved Gooeyz which was located in Columbus Ohio near Ohio State and it shut down. I was devastated, but this place is a close second and I love the concept. I think for dinner this place will be packed with families as I've never met a kid who doesn't love grilled cheese. It nice to see such a family friendly place in Indy! And cheap!

I wanted to love it. I really did. But it was just ok. The Tom + Chee grilled cheese was lackluster. Chili not good. Famous grilled cheese donut was good. But not great. Ambiance was cool! Wish I liked it better.

So I literally spent the entire day shopping. Like 'oh my gosh my feet are killing me I need food now' type of shopping. So after my last stop at a store at Trader's Point, I decided to stop at Tom+Chee. I had remembered seeing them on Shark Tank at some point. When I walked in, there were quite a few people there. The decor was bright and cheery and the menu board was easy to read. I decided to build my own grilled cheese so I chose pepper jack and cheddar on sourdough and a cup of classic tomato soup. I got it to go. Had to wait about 7 minutes. Took it home and dug in. The grilled cheese was delicious. The bread was perfectly grilled and the cheese was all yummy and melty. The classic tomato soup was exactly that. Nothing special about it, just plain tomato soup but it stayed piping hot on my 10 minute drive home. I will definitely return to Tom+Chee. Can't wait to try more grilled cheese combinations. Not too sure about trying the donut grilled cheese though!

It was a grey & rainy day - perfect for grilled cheese & tomato soup, so we thought we would give tom + chee a try. The 3 kids got the lil grilla meal - half a grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of soup & small drink, the grown ups each got a grilled cheese & we split 2 donut grilled dessert type items, the s'more and the king. The king has peanut butter & bananas with marscapone & mozzarella cheeses and the a s'more had what you'd guess - chocolate, marshmallow & graham cracker. The s'more was the highlight of our lunch, but it was all pretty good. The price was a little steep for grilled cheese but if you want the novelty of a grilled cheese on a donut, worth the splurge.

Noticed this spot recently, so a friend and I had lunch there today. Busy on a Sunday afternoon, but service was fast. Tomato soup was good and my mozzarella on rye(!) toasted to perfection. Wish I had seen them earlier, as this is the BEST food for winter. I'll eat the salads over the summer.

The thing I can say about this place was the staff was super friendly. I had the grilled cheese with tomato. I usually like my tomato cooked more so it can really give a good flavor to the sandwich. It was more like a lot of bread with a little in the middle. I was not happy with the high prices either. The grilled cheese I make at home is much cheaper.

The restaurant world is so crowded with various places that are basically repeats of each other, so it's really nice to see a place that is unique. I loved my first visit to Tom+ Chee. My grilled cheese was on sourdough with American cheese and turkey. I decided to not get too adventurous on my first visit. Next time (and there will definitely be a next time), I'll try something else. My only complaint, and it's not really a complaint because I realize the "Tom" in their name stands for "tomato soup." Yeah, I can't eat any sort of tomato products (tomatoes have too much acid for me, I have a really sensitive stomach)- so it would be nice if they offered one or two other soups. Not everyone can eat or likes tomato soup- just a basic cream of chicken or a chicken noodle soup would be great on their menu. They have Coke products. Yay!

Had the pesto chicken grilled cheese. It's was pretty delicious and I would highly recommend. The classic tomato soup was pretty avg. I don't think I would order it again unless they put some cheese in it. But did taste fresh.

The sandwiches are excellent! They have an awesome selection of gold peak tea as well. The only thing we didn't like was the soups. They were really salty and any soup with tomato seemed to be extra acidic. Cream of mushroom was a bit salty too but it was still good!

We tried Tom + Chee on a spur of the moment and had a great experience! The food is delicious and the ambiance is cool. The menu is simple, yet interesting. I ordered the creamy tomato soup, which was excellent. Others in my group were equally pleased. A favorite was the hippy chee. Our whole table split a grilled cheese on glazed donut. It was (obviously) calorie-laden, but very tasty. We will be back!!!

A hot spot on the west side for lunch-goers. They have speedy services and an interesting menu selection that could interest a large population. Sadly with the speedy service comes cheesy sandwiches that are not entirely melted. The bread is very good but over takes the sandwichs' insides. The soup is ok. That's it, okay It's not bad, but it's definitely a food chain.

This place is too pricey for what you get; I could definitely make these sandwiches at home for much cheaper.

  • Joseph H.

I was disappointed. I really expected something different in terms of grilled cheese. What I got was an overpriced sandwich without an abundance of either cheese or added toppings. The bread used is fresh and that is one advantage I must point out. Overall, the cost benefit just wasn't there.

    (2)
  • A M.

The sandwich I got was really hardy and satisfying! I got the goat cheese with 4 toppings, and it was DEELISH! The service was fast and pleasant! I was really disappointed with the pricing though. It's way too expensive to be a fast food place.

Having enjoyed Tom + Chee in Newport, KY, we were excited to try this new location in Indy. We were not disappointed. They specialize in tomato soup and gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. From roughly 20 varieties I selected the Bacon + Blue . Tasty blue cheese and mozarella with a generous amount of cripy bacon perfectly grilled on sourdough bread. My wife had the Swiss + Shroom, grilled mushrooms, onions and swiss on rye. Really tasty. They also advertise themselves as the home of the grilled cheese donut. I was skeptical, thinking it would be like state fair food (deep fried twinkies, etc). Wow, was I wrong! I ordered The King, a grilled donut with fresh banana, peanut butter mascarpone and mozarella. The mascarpone was lightly sweet with a light peanut butter flavor. The donut was light and gently crisped on the outside. Definitely a winner! The service was very good. There were two managers up front, each working with one of the cashiers. After ordering, you take a number to your table and they bring your food to you. It was only a few minutes from ordering to food on the table.

I wanted to really like this place. The menu sounds great and I had a tough time deciding, but in the end it was just ok. The sandwiches were a bit greasy (even for grilled cheese) and the soup tasted like the stuff from a can. Too bad because there are some pretty fantastic grilled cheese trucks out there and I was hoping this would be on par.

  • Jacob M.

Unique, cheesy, not at all healthy and very fun. Impressive selection of meaty and cheesy treats that are well worth a trip. I wouldn't make it a routine because the calories and fat are off the charts and it's a bit overpriced for the quality of products used (don't peak into the open windowed kitchen area, generic store bought items abound) but as a once in a while treat it satisfies. The doughnuts (oh yeah, grilled cheese doughnuts!) sound a lot better than they actually are. Heavy on the sweet and nill on the savory. Give em a try just don't expect to feel good after!

Price was a bit high for the serving size...but the quality was definitely there. I got myself a soup and sandwich while my lady friend had a different sandwich and salad. I tried it all and was enjoyable!

Way too expensive for a generic cheese cold sandwich and canned tomato soup.

  • JB M.

Nothing overly fancy. 2 adults 1 child with only water to drink was $23. Way overpriced for what you get in my opinion. Restaurant lights were flickering inside while we dined. Soup and sandwich had heavy amounts of garlic I am still tasting an hour later. Interesting idea, but honestly I could make better in my own kitchen and for cheaper. I don't predict this place will last long.

First impression....WOW this place is jumping! Long line to order but it moved fast. The menu is really hard to read due to glare but they were prepared with laminated and to go menus to use. Food was made quickly and tasted great at a reasonable price. I would definitely go back and the desserts sound delicious and different. Great menu!

My husband loves grilled cheese and tomato soup so my son and I agreed to go try this new restaurant with him. We went on a Sunday at lunch time and the place was packed. It is a great place for kids as there were a ton of families with small, loud children. I have been through this so it didn't bother me one bit. They have a nice menu filled with lots of choices. I ordered a turkey sandwich with swiss, cheddar, and grilled onions on rye. I also got the tomato basil cup of soup. My son ordered the swiss with turkey on white. My husband ordered the shroom and swiss on sourdough. I thought it was a bit expensive- $33 for the three of us to eat. My sandwich was hot and cooked through although the turkey meat was gross- mostly dark meat which I can't stand. I would have preferred Boar's Head turkey meat. My son's cheese was not melted although it was warm. Who serves a grilled cheese where the cheese isn't melted? My husband enjoyed his sandwich. I counted 10-11 people working at this restaurant but the open kitchen seemed a bit overwhelmed. Tables were dirty and customers were having to wipe them down themselves. They did have two people taking orders. They don't have a panini grill to melt the cheese quickly. I noticed they placed a large lid over the open faced sandwiches which could be the reason why my son's cheese never melted. I realize that this place just opened so they have some things to work out. If I try it again, I will not order any sandwich with turkey. Be forewarned if you don't like dark meat turkey, don't order any sandwich with this kind of meat. With Panera Bread right down the road, I will probably go there next time.

I wanted to love this place so bad. Grilled cheese is my type of food! I got so excited about the Mac n Cheese grilled cheese and built up my anticipation for it. Unfortunately, after the first bite, I was pretty let down. The Texas toast bread was nicely toasted but the Mac and cheese lacked any flavor. I think I should have spiced it up with some hot sauce. We also ordered the grilled cheese donut, which was good, but nothing spectacular and not worth the $4.

As a Cincinnatian, like Tom + Chee, this review pains me. The food was ok, worth another visit as the menu looked tasty. However, the price point was pretty nuts. I spent $22 for myself and two kids meals. Um, no. Not ok. The last star was lost on the rather gross soup--bleu cheese chili. It was really nasty. But props to Tom + Chee for keeping goetta on the menu outside of Cincinnati. Not really my bag, but a great reminder of home and something that is NEVER seen outside of the 'Nati.

Me and my sister saw this place as we were passing by it and declared that we would return to eat there the very next day. And we did just that. Today for lunch, after a little Christmas Decor shopping and two growling stomachs that needed to be FULFILLED, not just filled, we pulled into Tom & Chee not knowing what to expect. When you walk in, its quite an inviting small space. The menu takes up the whole back wall behind the cashier and its colors (black/red/yellow) are all subtle reminders that you are indeed at a Grill Cheese Factory !!!!!! We stood at the counter not really knowing what to get as we did a quick once over of all the selections. The cashier could have been a little more friendly initially, but when you are hungry, what does a little small talk do for you anyway?? * shrug * So, my sister bought the Mac & Cheese for 5.95 and while I initially thought I would get the Tom Chee for 4.95, I decided to live a little and I ordered a sandwich called "Hot & Spicy". Sounds like my kinda food! The interior is pretty cute. Again, it is small, but there is enough room to sit comfortably at a table or you can opt to sit at the short 'bar' and watch your food (and everyone else's) be prepared. I was delighted to see workers in the back wearing gloves while handling food. I took a ServSafe class in culinary school and I admit that I look for sanitary places to eat and employees who wear gloves when handling food. #CHECK. The drink selection was standard; Coke products/Tea/Water. Our food was brought to us pretty quickly and piping hot. My sandwich was so hot that I shouldn't have (notice I didn't say COULDN'T) bit into it but I did. It was worth it. Our sandwiches were cut in half, naturally and both were full of great ingredients that had a fresh taste to them. My sister's mac & cheese sandwich was just that: Mac & Cheese on bread!!!!! She added bacon to it and Voila ! STomach Magic ensues!!!!! Mine on the other hand, came with peppperoni, spicy cherry peppers, onion and pepper jack cheese. I added cheddar cheese to it as well. I mean, might as well go all out right?? It was full of every ingredient it came with. It still tasted like a grilled cheese and NOT a sandwich w/cheese. That in itself was pretty cool. The flavors were good and while it was spicy, it wasn't that overpowering spice that makes you question why you are even still eating hell-in-your-hands!!!!! I enjoyed it quite well. They also have soup & chili options, as well as the Donut Grilled Cheese. That one scares the attack right into my heart, but I give them 20 cool points for being bold enough to serve it ! We both finished off half of our sandwiches and took the rest home. I'm not sure what a reheated grilled cheese will be like, but I look forward to not just that..... ....I look forward to coming back!!! And luckily for me, I work right around the corner!!!!!!! ((((Later on that evening. .....)))) ********THIS JUST IN!!!!! Did you know there was a thing called Reheatable Grilled Cheeses??!?!?!?! Yeah, me neither !!! Well it is !!! I officially call it for them. ...Tom Chee is the home of the Reheatable Grilled Cheese Sandwich! !! I just reheated my other half of the Hot & Spicy and this half has a Lil more kick to it and is just goid, if not better....the whole wheat bread is splendid !!!! I gave it less than a minute, covered and boom. Yes...I can't wait to return! !! #Yumlife!!

I have only been to Tom + Chee one time out in Kentucky, so I was excited when one opened here in Indy. With it being on the Northside and I live on the Southside, I haven't been able to get up there...until now. Ok, fine...I go to the Northside often, but not to the Trader's Point area. When we walked in we were the only people in there. A girl came up from around the corner to take our order. I must say that I wasn't too impressed with her. She just seemed like we were interrupting something far more exciting that taking our order. I feel that their drinks are a little overpriced for the size. We asked for a large...and their large is the size of other places medium. While we waited for our food to come out I took a look around. The place is clean, but nothing special in terms of décor. Our food came out pretty quickly. It was good and had good flavor. Sadly with the price I paid for 2 meals I would have hoped for a bigger sandwich, but was disappointed in the overall amount of food. Overall its a neat concept of soup and grilled cheese...but probably isn't something that I would visit regularly.

Not good.

This is a very cool, unique place! To answer some questions that I was asked by friends: yes, it is fast food; yes, it is a bit pricier than fast food; yes they are variations of tomato soup! First, grilled cheese is like comfort food to me. Tomato soup, not as much. :) I am pretty much a straight Campbell's girl there. I had the traditional tomato soup(there is a chunky version with basil, and a smooth basil version too). It was good-not as creamy as I would like, but had a little spicy kick to it, so it wasn't just plain ole maters. It was pretty good tho, honestly. Tomatoes just aren't my favorite, but I wanted to try the soup. I had the Barbara Blue, which is ham, brie and blueberry compote on a donut. That thing was seriously amazing. I mean delicious. It was such a good combo of flavors. I will say that the dude at the counter seemed annoyed by my a) lack of understanding of the menu; b) my indecisiveness; c) my whole presence in general. Hopefully on my next trip the person taking my order will be more helpful and personable.

OMW!!! I LOVE THIS RESTAURTANT! WELCOME to Indy and Traders Point. They LIVE UP to the high expections of a unique and delicious Grilled Cheese + Tomato Soup. I was totally hooked after just a couple bites of each. Then, as if gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches aren't enough pleasure for our tastebuds their true fame is The Grilled Cheese Donuts. Nine variations of well loved ingredients fill a sliced and grilled yeast donut prepared for old and new fans to devour. I'm looking forward to the "Bananarama", "The Smore" and "The "King" Grilled Cheese Donuts. GLUTEN FREE & VEGAN OPTIONS are available for those of you thinking about passing on C-T's. The atmosphere is family oriented, lots of indoor tables with a separate counter view into the kitchen area to watch orders being prepared. Kids will find coloring books and crayons by beverage area.Orders are placed at the large menu chalk boards then delivered to your table. The Manager was very friendly, personable and informative while I was trying to decide on my selection. The Manager followed through by visiting customer tables for feedback on their experience. I hope this practice continues since so many new restaurants stop following up after a few months of opening. I ordered the Armagoetta Grilled Cheese with Creamy Tomato Basil Soup and highly recommend both. The sandwich was delicious with a touch of crunchy from the fried onions and a wonderful blend of flavors with a slightly sweet & spicy kick from the spicy cherry peppers, sweet hot mustard and pepper jack cheese. You have the option to build your own grilled cheese or select from the amazing selection of sandwiches on the LARGE menu board. Carnivores can build around roasted beef, chicken or turkey roasted by C-T. Need more meat? Add your choice of pepperoni, bacon, ham or goetta to any sandwich. Goetta is a breakfast sausage popular in Cincinnati. If you crave serious cheese add Mac & Cheese to push your sandwich over the top. If cheese isn't an option for you build your own sandwich around your taste and dietary requirements. My homemade Creamy Tomato Basil Soup was so satifying with excellent creamy texture and flavors. I enjoyed the tini chunks of tomatoes and basil while being creamy without the fresh basil overpowering the flavors. My personal suggestion is GO FOR THE LARGE BOWL OF SOUP! So worth the up charge of $1.50. There are three options of Tomato Soup along with a Daily Soup to select from. Our orders arrived quickly even with the lunch crowd. The employees at the order counter are still in a learning curve but to be expected in first week. The Manager is engaged in all areas fine tuning this Cincinnati based franchise. Now after two visits Tom + Chee has made me a serious fan when I need cheesy comfort.

I had first tried Tom + Chee in Louisville this past summer. When I realized there was one opening in Indy, I was so pumped. I do think the location is a little strange. This place would do so well in broad ripple or mass ave (HINT HINT). Although, it was quite busy the whole time I was there tonight. Ordering food was a tad slow. I'm not sure what the deal was or maybe I was just really hungry and impatient. Either way, it probably should take less than 4 minutes a person to order a sandwich and soup. I ordered the hippy chee and a cup of chunky tom basil soup. It took about 5 minutes for the food. Both were excellent and just the way I remember them in Louisville.

!! #Yumlife!!

Yay!

And cheap!

Chunky tomato had a very strong and wonderful flavor. Had gluten free bread and vegan cheese(which never melts well) with unlimited veggies(carrots, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes) #bombdotcom

I was disappointed. I really expected something different in terms of grilled cheese. What I got was an overpriced sandwich without an abundance of either cheese or added toppings. The bread used is fresh and that is one advantage I must point out. Overall, the cost benefit just wasn't there.

The sandwich I got was really hardy and satisfying! I got the goat cheese with 4 toppings, and it was DEELISH! The service was fast and pleasant! I was really disappointed with the pricing though. It's way too expensive to be a fast food place.

First impression....WOW this place is jumping! Long line to order but it moved fast. The menu is really hard to read due to glare but they were prepared with laminated and to go menus to use. Food was made quickly and tasted great at a reasonable price. I would definitely go back and the desserts sound delicious and different. Great menu!

:) Mmmmmm!
