Five stars perhaps a bit aggressive, but I have zero complaints after having lunch here so it seemed appropriate. 1) Great vibe. New and clean, but with tons of character. It's an old home that's been restored. 2) Solid food. My girlfriend and I did the red pepper bisque, honey Sriracha brussel sprouts and BBQ pork sandwich. Red pepper bisque a homerun, brussel sprouts very good but may try another app next time, BBQ pork sandwich was one of the best BBQ pork sandwiches I've ever had. Give it a rip. We will be back to try dinner sometime. Their entrees sounded phenomenal.

Stopped in on a warm summer Friday afternoon & sat on the porch. The place is beautiful, inside & out. We mentioned it was our first time & the staff was very helpful/welcoming. We tried the crab cakes & grits, which were just okay. Seemed like there was more filler than crab & the grits weren't as creamy as I expected. However the flavor was good & the other things we tried were amazing. The Applewood Smoked BLT was so layered in flavor, we were surprised it was a simple BLT. And the strawberry shortcake was to die for. The cake was light & spongy, with the flavor of a butter poundcake but airy with homemade whipped cream & an essence of mint. Was so refreshing on a hot day. Can't wait to try some of the other items on the menu.

I'll keep this short-ish: Atmosphere/ambiance- fantastic, charming, old worldly with a contemporary twist. Their use of the space could not be better, I absolutely loved it! The bar is a gem, and they make beautiful cocktails! Food: amazing, flavorful, beautiful! I wanted to try one of everything, so I will be back for more! Service: well, our server was nice, not quite attentive enough for us. Our appetizers came out quickly, but our soups followed by our main courses came out on top of each other and there was no room for everything and we felt rushed and like we had to gobble down our food just to get some of the plates cleared. We could have ordered more drinks too, but they were getting to us too slowly. We also had to keep requesting water refills... We went on a Saturday night (and had reservations), and they were busy, so I understand that they were trying to turn the tables quickly, but geesh! I would have enjoyed it if we had better service, and I HATE when my food is brought out on top of the previous course! I think this place is classy enough to know/do better.... Great date place, loved it, can't wait to go back (and have the 5 star experience I think it can be!)!

Found this Gem in Geneva by pure chance. Went in for Dinner on a weekday so it was not super crowded. A restored house, to restaurant, that was built in 1850's. The inside was nothing but character, with patio dining, dining throughout the home, including upstairs. The owner Nancy, greeted us and sat us down. The server, Ostried was right there and provided the most excellent service. The Restaurant has a Cajun/New Orleans flair and the selections are varied. They brought out Hot Bisquits with a Honey Butter. I then started with the Cajun Gumbo soup. Excellent. The entree was a Stuffed Chicken Breast, Kale and finger potatoes. Soup or salad was part of the order and that soup was a large bowl, not a whimpy cup. All Excellent. Also had the Crab Cakes, excellent. Judging by others dining at the same time. All food was rated high. They also had a decent wine selection and the costs are very reasonable. A few more things to mention. The bathroom was spotless. The bar area sported a few TVS but seemed it had more of locals hanging out enjoying a pre season football game. This review is based on one visit, and of course I will return.

Had a business dinner here last month. Loved the home atmosphere inside, felt like I was at a posh B+B. Side note, our waitress let me borrow her phone charger. Lifesaver, wish I remembered her name.

Sat outside, had no problem with the noise. There were people in the group that said last time they were there, they got seated upstairs and couldn't hear anything that anyone was saying...so, the noise issue is still not solved. What is solved? Well, the food and service is terrific. We had the brussels sprouts and loved them. My daughter got the flat iron steak, I got shrimp, and we split each so we each got sort of a surf n turf. Highly recommended. For wine we got an easy white (it was a hot summer night)....probably sauv blanc....loved it. Go. But sit outside.

I loved the food here!! There are not enough restaurants in the country as unique as this, unless you are in Charleston Nc, or Louisiana. On that note, all the food if had here is excellent! I really mean that. I consider myself a foodie, with a pallet for food from all reaches of the globe. And I love the southern flare the food meets here at the Patton House. I will be back here every time I come to Geneva. Thanks for the great menu guys!

I really enjoyed The Patten House, it's such a neat little gem. The location is great, just off the main drag so after you're done stuffing your face with the great southern cooking, you can walk it off in downtown Geneva. The food was honestly wonderful and the service was great. The bar is a bit tight but if you can get a stool, the bartenders are quick and attentive. I'm looking forward to getting back to try some other menu items, which I think is the best compliment you can give.

I'm going to give this place 3 stars but only because the building is beautiful and the waiter did the best he could. I see a really negative trend here with the reviews, I hope the people that own this place take it to heart and fix the disaster in the kitchen before it's too late. I didn't read the recent bad reviews in advance, it does make sense though. We started with shrimp and grits, it was fine, gumbo could have been more spicy and the salad looked good. Main courses came, I had the fried catfish, it was $24 and pretty small, food cost on the plate probably $5, not a very good value. My son had the pulled pork, he said it was good and it looked good with a reasonable price. My wife had the filet mignon, ordered medium rare, delivered beet red cold in the middle, sent back, waiter asked if they could just refire that piece to save time, ok, we're not complicated, do it (waiter noted it was raw). Filet back for a second time, it was unbelievable but still totally raw and not disputed from the waiter, he checked with the manager who removed it from the bill, my wife gave up. At this point my son and I noticed the manager lurking about but he never came to the table. We wanted to like this place! Not to be deterred, desert, bananas foster were quite good. My wife ordered funnel cake and ice cream, it arrived after my son and I had fInished ours due to some sort of issue, waiter removed one of the deserts from the bill, manager lurked in the background but no visit to the table. FIX this beautiful place! Outdoor dining looked really nice.

After looking high and low for a good restaurant in Geneva we tried the Patten house restaurant on Monday night. It was amazing. The location is in an old home that has been completely refurbished on 2nd street with a beautiful wrap around porch, where we ate, many smaller dining rooms inside and wonderful bar and patio. What made this our favorite place by far was the wonderful service we had from Kadri and the rest of the staff. They were attentive but not intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and had the ability to tell that you were on a romantic evening and needed to be interrupted only as appropriate. The food was amazing, we had the brussel sprouts appetizer an absolute must that were cooked to perfection in bacon and honey. We also had the lobster mac appetizer which was one of the best lobster mac we have found around. For our dinners we had the grilled salmon salad which my wife enjoyed, & I had the blackened grouper which came with a avocado mashed potato that was to die for. My meal also came with a red pepper soup that was quite good. By far the best place we have found in the Geneva/St Charles area indefinitely a must for returns by us.

So happy to find this place which is obviously & understandably beloved by all that know about it! Met a friend for an light dinner (new to both) and had the Honey Siracha Brussel Spouts, the Gumbo with cheese biscuits & Crab Crab cakes & grits... Cant wait to return on a less sticky day to linger amongst the Hydrangeas on their very welcoming patio.

It hurts me to give this place two stars, but really the last experience I had here was just terrible. The first time we dined here was the night after our wedding. Everything was amazing. Our server even gave us a complimentary bottle of bubbly to celebrate. We decided to come back to Geneva to try out some of the great places we missed the first time, and decided to come here again because of how much we loved it the first time. The meal started out good, she had the kabobs (a bit small for the price) and I had the gumbo (really great stuff). We ordered a ribeye medium rare to split for dinner. When the steak arrived, it was well done. there was no pink to be seen in or around the steak and the outside was even charred. When the server, Donald, asked us how everything was I told him I hated to say this but the steak is very over done (I'm a server as well and didn't want to be "that guy".) his response was "yeah you're right, that's definitely not medium rare. He went back and greeted another table, came back to us and said "well I already yelled at the kitchen once today, so sorry guys there's nothing I can really do". I was taken aback. The steak was awful, and I paid 30 bucks for it. Pretty much ruined the place for me and my wife. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the first time we went was great.

Went here one evening for a drink on Saturday January17. Thought the atmosphere and cocktails were really good. We learned there is a now Sunday Brunch, so in the morning we headed here to try a few recommendations the bartender made the night before. The place takes on a different view during the day, one that we liked and felt really at home here. Maybe it was the nature of our server, Jonathan. He was really helpful with his descriptions. Anywho, I could not wait to try their Bloody Mary, and compare it to the best one I had in N'awlins at Elizibeth's in Bywater. Wow...they really nailed it here...it had the horseradish and Worcestershire as I had hoped, and the peppery salted rim was an even better addition. Now, on to the best thing we had here....STUFFED FRENCH TOAST! OMG....so decadent with it's mascarpone, blueberries, cooked bananas, and ba ba ba bacon! Yes! We also had the omelet, which was really delicious with its Andouille sausage and different layers. Highly recommended Patten House in this breakfast-place-on-Sunday starved-town. I would also recommend skipping Nosh and get your butt in here instead! You will leave very satisfied!

As a business owner I instill upon my employees that you only have one chance to make a first impression, so here is my first and last impression of Patten House. For our 20th anniversary, my wife and I were looking for something a little special, my first two choices were unavailable so my wife suggested this establishment. Doing research I was only able to find a facebook page but no other website available as I was interested in checking out the menu, sorry I don't do facebook. Making the call two days in advance was straightforward. Arriving ten minutes before our reservation, I commented to my wife that I'm glad we made reservations as the number of people milling around outside obviously waiting to be seated. Approaching to what I assumed to be the hostess station as to the number of people milling around I caught the attention of a young girl and asked about being seated. I said that we had a reservation and gave me her our name. When I was asked for my name I repeated it and then spelled it as the girl seemed confused (phonically challenged) I was told that there would be a little wait, so we could spend it in the bar or wait outside. In the short walk to the bar we observed 4 empty tables. Arriving at the filled to capacity bar, we were ignored for 10 minutes. We then decided to wait outside as it was a beautiful evening and didn't want to further spoil the evening. While we were exiting the building we encountered a couple who we had seen waiting upon arrival cancel their reservation as they had been waiting in excess of an half hour. That was enough for us.

Sitting inside or outside, either way I had a wonderful time. Service is great and the food is outstanding. Brussel sprouts are out of this world good! I have brought friends, family and clients to lunch and each time was enjoyable!

I have been here three times now. Each visit has been better than the last. None bad! People, it is a house from the 1860's!. It's called the Patten House. It's going to be loud and echoey! That's part of the whole experience! I have never had a bad experience with anyone there. Sure the bar is small but again, it's a 150+ year old house! The owner did an outstanding job with the design inside and out! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu! I'll be back...

I'm a little bit in love with this place. Talk about a cool atmosphere! Beautiful chandeliers galore, a fireplace burning, gorgeous all around. I wish I had a house that looked like this. The menu is short and sweet - some salads and soups, sandwiches, some appetizers, and a few entrees. Do a few things and do them well. I ordered the Pulled Turkey sandwich with the side salad, and we had the bacon wrapped figs to share. Everything was so good. The sandwich was like Thanksgiving in my mouth - turkey, cranberry sauce, bread, mustard, mmmm. I would definitely order that again. My parents enjoyed what they ordered as well. The service was great. He was really polite and attentive, always had our drinks filled (which was important because I really needed coffee), and plates were always cleared. The hostess was very nice and had no problem with us switching tables (Dad has a bad back and needed lower seating), and another hostess had a nice conversation with us about the Bears. It felt like home. Loved it, want more of it, and will definitely be back!

Came here on a Saturday evening with two girlfriends. We had a reservation for 7pm and the place was bustling. We waited a few minutes on the front porch which was nice but I can see this place getting uncomfortably crowded in cold weather because there is no room inside to wait. There is a bar but the architecture of the old house is tough to compete with. Our service was extremely slow, but the waitress was apologetic which made up for it somewhat. She was obviously very busy so none of us were upset but if we had plans afterward, we would've been screwed. I read in another review that there were complimentary cheddar biscuits but we were never offered any (which is probably good since carbs are not my friend). At one point it got extremely loud in the restaurant but my friends and I are pretty boisterous so that didn't bother me much. I had a blueberry martini which was very tasty but not strong. I ordered another and this one didn't have blueberries as a garnish. Again, not a big deal but consistency is something I really value in a restaurant. We had a shrimp appetizer which was very good, crispy and flavorful. For my entrée, I had the grouper, which was quite enjoyable and a generous portion. The dish was served over avocado mashed potatoes and garnished with mango salsa, which I love. My fish came with a salad, which was nicely presented and had a delicious basil dressing. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and the atmosphere and would return. However, if you have a later obligation be weary due to the slow service.

Had the grouper and the prawns as entrees- you get so much for the price of your meal! Entrees come with a decent size salad or a decent sized soup and the biscuits are delicious!!! So happy to find this restaurant in Geneva!!! And the Cajun style of the food is so refreshing!! I was getting sick of Italian food!! Great job The Patten House!!!

My husband and I waited about three months before giving Patten House a try, as it sounded, from the reviews, like there were a few kinks that needed to be worked out first. Unfortunately, three months later, those kinks are still being resolved. We arrived at 7:00 and put our name on the list. At the time, the hostess told us it would be 5-10 minutes, and we were welcome to wait at the ridiculously small bar. For such a large house, I was stunned that they did not install a significantly larger bar where people could congregate. We hovered over another couple until they left, then sat down at what seemed like two of 12 bar stools. There was no cocktail list, which was quite surprising considering this place bills itself as high-end. The bartender did offer to make me a martini (off-menu), but I passed in favor of a glass of wine. The glass of Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc was priced at exactly the same amount a bottle costs - quite the mark-up. After 45 minutes at the bar, my husband asked the hostess why we had not been seated. She told him "two-person tables are actually hard to come by" and said it might be another 10-15 minutes. If two-person tables are so scarce, why tell us it would be 5-10 minutes in the first place? I was ready to leave at that point but my husband wanted to stick it out, so we stayed the course. We were finally seated five minutes later in a room upstairs. There were four empty tables in the room at the time, so I don't know why we were not seated at one of those tables - sure, they had four seats, but better to seat your guests at a larger table than make them wait for nearly an hour. The theme of the evening was indeed "wait." We waited 30 minutes for our appetizers, and another 30 minutes for our main courses. By the time we left the restaurant at 9:45 p.m., I was done. There is no reason why a two-course meal should take two hours and forty five minutes. As for the food, it was fine, but certainly no better than Niche or Nobel House down the street. If the rest of the experience hadn't been so dismal I might have returned for the food, but I'm not one to keep giving poor restaurants a chance. I also want to point out that if you're dining in Geneva at a restaurant that charges at least $24 an entree, you shouldn't come in baggy jeans and a Bears sweatshirt. The diners who are dressed up and paying upwards of $150 for their meal/drinks don't really want to see you slouched in your seat with your elbows on the table.

Was looking forward to a great meal. Love the atmosphere of the house. Enjoyed looking around. The stars are for the atmosphere. Unfortunately the atmosphere was the best part. Amateur is the only word I can come up with for the entree. Shrimp as beyond over cooked. Flavor was not complex or creative. My wife sent her salmon back for a do-over. It was aggressively cooked to say the least. Looks like this is a place for a drink and an appetizer to enjoy the atmosphere.

Went to Patten House for the 3rd time on Saturday, August 1st . So, so disappointed. We had a 6:30 reservation-party of 3. Took the waiter a long time to acknowledge we were there. When serving our drink order we ordered an appetizer and our dinner selections. The waiter returned serving me soup and a basket of rolls. When he finally returned to clear my bowl I asked about our appetizer he giggled and said "I guess I forgot - too late now. Your food will be up soon, that is so funny". No one in my group found it funny at all. I ordered the cornish hen and was very clear "NO PEPPER" No pepper anywhere on my plate. My cornish hen was so over cooked couldn't chew what little meat was there. Stuffing very dry, and the carrots had so much pepper on them I could smell it. My daughter waited, and waited for ranch dressing had to ask 2 different waiters, waited and waited for additional butter too. When the waiter finally returned I asked him about the pepper on the carrots and he replied "Well at least it was only on the carrots" No apology, no manager, no comp. My first 2 experiences where good but not sure if I will return bad service - bad food and very noisy

I must say this is by far one of the BEST restaurants I have been to in a long time. I have been to New Orleans a few times and this restaurant is a complete nod to it! If you haven't tried this little gem you must go. The ambience in itself will make you want to go get a feel for this historic revival. Service was impeccable and it was the servers first day. Would have never known. We had the Brussel sprouts and the baked Brie as our appetizers both soooo good! Entrées were the salmon, grouper, and the prawns. DYING! Not to mention the cheddar biscuits that come to the table with honey butter! I've already mapped out my next meal it was THAT good!

Just beautiful, a former residence turned into a restaurant. We ventured over to this restaurant during Swedish Days with a baby. Luckily we missed the crowd previously! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We started with the catfish nuggets, I thought tasted fishy & only had one. Kids mac and cheese tasted good but was over salted (tried my daughter's) Fries came with her meal and were tasty! My husband ordered the pork chop and raved about it! The salad did not impress...could have gone without it. I ordered some type of steak sliders tasted like they had A1 sauce on them. Overall I thought it should've tasted better. I wish the food lived up to the ambiance. I would love to go back to sit on the porch for drinks or in the courtyard! It is worth checking out. See what you think!

It was good but not great. Really loved the house and service. The food fell a bit short. My husband had jambalaya and it was a bit bland. I had the salmon with way too much mashed sweet potato on the side. It could have been more flavorful as well. Salmon at Pappadeaux is soooo much tastier. We started with cocunut shrimp that was awesome and the much buzzed about brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts where good, and the portion was huge. Would I order them again or rave about them... probably not. We were too full for dessert. Will I come back? Yes but either for brunch or just for drinks and appetizers.

I struggle with how to rate them. My 4 stars are based on the appetizer, everyone else's sandwiches and the atmosphere - not my entree. I've been wanting to go here since before they were even open. We finally went, after hearing great reviews from everyone we spoke with. I loved the atmosphere and the service was good. Everyone I was with got sandwiches and loved them. I got an entree with soup. The stuffed poblano pepper and the soup was ok nothing amazing. It was all blain. My husband offered his sandwich to me, so we switched. He will eat anything and is not picky. He didn't eat much and asked if I was full because he wanted his Po' Boy back. We all were shocked he didn't finish my pepper - he said it wasn't good either. Hoping my food next time is better. We also go an appetizer, it was the bacon wrapped figs, we all really enjoyed them. However, what isn't good wrapped in bacon.

Our family visited the Patten Restaurant in geneva last Saturday. Sent back the red beans and rice. No flavor and the rice looked like mashed potatoes. Waited a while for our meal...and that came out cold. We were dissapointed with the food but the place is pretty. Probably will wait a while to try back. .

Oh my! My husband I have passed this place for the past year always saying we wanted to go... We finally went last night and wanted to kick ourselves for not going sooner! It was such a cool atmosphere! You can make it whatever kind of experience you want. My husband and I enjoyed a romantic dinner, the table next to us had their whole big family there, and on the other side was a girls night group! The complimentary cheddar biscuits were delicious! We then ordered the Brie appetizer... Wow! It was in a puff pastry and I could have eaten that for dinner! I never order fish, but it was the waiters recommendation, so why not?! I got the grouper and was hooked from the first bite! It had a slight spicy kick to it in a great way. The sweet potato purée was to die for. My husband got the salmon and said if he ordered that every time we go, he would be completely satisfied. As if we hadn't eaten enough... We got the chocolate mousse cake for dessert and scraped the plate clean. Service was impeccable! Now the question is... When do we go back?! You would be doing a disservice to yourself if you do not try this place!

I love this place. I've been here a few times now for dinner and for brunch and it's consistently delicious. That being said they're more of a lunch/dinner place, and their small plates are what sets them apart. It's hard to find a place up here that does a good job with grits and Patten house is the best we've had. I'd have paid to take a tour of the building, the attention to detail during the restoration is very much appreciated. Try to crab cakes and the cocktails - especially out back in the Patio.

Excited to eat here. Nice looking restaurant, we were seated right away (though chairs are pretty uncomfortable; don't go if you have bad back), appetizers were delicious, but then it went downhill. We had a party of five. Here were our orders and what was wrong with them. 1. Special of the day: Ribeye with shrimp skewer, some kind of potato and a vegetable. What he received was a piece of prime rib, mashed potatoes and green beans. When we mentioned that wasn't the special, the waiter said they ran out of the special and that this was the new special of the day. Waiter never bothered to come out and say that and ask if he would like something else. Prime rib looked well done. Who eats prime rib well done? 2. Shrimp skewers. Shrimp was overcooked -- leathery/rubbery. 3. Flat iron steak ordered medium rare. Came to the table well done. 4. Stuff pepper. Waiter said it wasn't spicy. It was spicy. 5. Jambalaya. Looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. In fact, in retrospect, all the meals looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp. Perhaps that's why shrimp and meat was overcooked. We mentioned our issues to the waiter, who seemed uninterested in our comments. He never offered to comp anything. A drink or dessert would have been a nice gesture. Ant to top it off, they charged for the special, which was essentially a surf & turf -- and he never even got the shrimp! Probably for the best, as it would have been overcooked. The two stars are for the appetizers and soup, which were delicious, but that alone won't get me to go back.

The Patten House not only has great food, but the atmosphere is amazing! A historic home turned into such a charming restaurant. The exposed brick around the bar, the large, original glass pane windows, the chandeliers...it was all beautiful. We started with the Brussels sprouts appetizer, but held the siracha (I can't do spicy). They were delicious and a very large portion! The house salad with citrus basil vinaigrette was good but my friend got the butternut squash soup which was excellent (but spicy). I got the steak Tournedos which were tasty. The brie on top was yummy! Dessert...you HAVE to get the beignets!

I have been to Patten House numerous times....for just drinks in the bar, drinks & apps in the bar and most recently dinner for 10. The atmosphere and the appetizers are always outstanding! Friday night my filet was very small but cooked perfectly medium rare but the potatoes were cold. The waiter was relatively new and didn't know the menu very well and had a hard time with menu questions. We had to ask for the dinner rolls that accompanied our meals. We did receive them after our entrees were served. He was not as attentive as he should have been as our food took a while to be served and we did not see him during the wait. I think the big group of 10 was a challenge for him and the kitchen. We will continue to come here.....

Absolutely exceptional dining experience! We loved the cozy, intimate feel of the place. Instead of one large dining area, the building is still broken up like a house with just a few tables in each room. The property is beautifully restored as well with a warm neutral color palette, bright fixtures and exposed brick walls. The food? Some of the best anywhere! We started with the Honey Sriracha Glazed Brussels sprouts. The portion was generous enough to provide for leftovers for our party of two and they were absolutely superb. The complimentary biscuits were some of the best I've ever sampled and I loved how they paired the biscuits with lightly flavored butter. We both opted for the dinner salads because the gumbo sounded incredible, but it quickly became clear that this is a place where the portions are generous and we wanted to leave room for the main course. My mom had the fried catfish which came with a homemade sriracha tartar sauce and unique Cole slaw with apple slices in it. I had the white fish which came over Cajun style dirty rice with marinated green beans. Everything was outstanding and our waiter was super attentive. He provided us with an amazing desert menu (which seemed to rival All Chocolate Kitchen with crème brulé of the day and various other gourmet goodies) but we were too full. My only complaint is that the chairs are horribly uncomfortable. They're the Colonial style that fits the period of the house but they're horribly straight backed. If they had a coat check they'd probably be more comfortable because my coat hanging over the back of the chair kept pushing me further forward. Absolutely will go back again though. Might have to try their breakfast sometime.

Sometimes things just fall into place. That's how my wife and I came to visit Patten House. Located on a beautiful tree lined street in downtown Geneva, a warm summer night and no mosquitoes awaited us. Pulling around back to a city parking lot which is right behind the restaurant, we slipped into the patio through the back gate. Our server (Kat) quickly greeted us with menus and friendly conversation. Brussels sprouts and brie and fruit was selected as appetizers. Way too much for two people. The baked brie was great, the sprouts were over cooked and not so good. The wife ordered the white fish and Cajun rice. I ordered the ribeye steak with roasted fingerling potatoes and roasted carrots. The fish was A number 1. The ribeye was tasty but thin with no bone and very fatty. And they don't have steak sauce! They brought me hamburger sauce which was a good substitute for the lack of A-1 sauce. It wasn't a $ 30.00 steak. I've had just as good at Ponderosa for a lot less. To sum up our server was great, the brie app was good, the fish was outstanding and the steak was so so. They have a nice menu with moderate to high pricing. I'd go back and this time have the fish!

Very cool venue. The restaurant is located in an old home from the 1800's that has been completely updated in the downtown area of Geneva. The tall ceilings with the archways over the doors are a wonderful throwback to a different time. It really adds to the atmosphere. Not only that, but the food is wonderful as well. I had a blackened grouper with avocado infused whipped potatoes. Yum! I started with a cup of their gumbo which was tasty as well. My table-mates had a filet done completely the way he wanted and the other had a shrimp dish that he enjoyed as well. Our waitress, Kristen was fantastic, very friendly and helpful. Great service. The only minor bad point is the wine list was a little on the short side, I enjoy a pinot noir and they had only 2 selections by the glass. But the one I had was fine. Prices are a little on the high side but what you'd expect of a place of this type. I will definitely go back.

Excellent food, we ordered vegi burger it and Cajun burgers they were fantastic. The Brussels sprouts are so different and excellent taste. Funnel cake was very good. Service is outstanding, Ambiance is 10/10. I rarely give 5 ratings.

I've been here a few times now and each time something has been...off. That said, this review will be based off my most recent time here. We visited here for a work lunch before the holidays and we all agreed on the gorgeous interior (and exterior) being decorated very nicely; it was festive, but elegant. The service was... not the best. We often felt "forgotten" - multiple times were just sitting waiting for something - and we felt not cared for. We often had empty water glasses. Multiple people in our party of 5 had their entree dishes...but no silverware, since it was cleared after the appetizers. We had received extra plates...that were dirty. Our waitress didn't pay attention to detail. We asked what the soup of the day was and she said she had just started her shift so she didn't know. She would get back to us. And she did...10 minutes later. Also, if she had just started her shift, why was her white shirt all dirty? This is a classy place and she didn't deliver these standards. Additionally, meals are supposed to come with biscuits for the table, which we had read about and were looking forward to. Well, when we didn't get any biscuits, we actually got up AFTER we all had finished our meal (because we couldn't get waitress' attention during it), and had to ask for biscuits. They came once our party was eager to get going. The funny part was, when we were leaving, we found our waitress SITTING on a bar stool downstairs in their "waitress stand" area by the bar...So busy sitting she couldn't check on us? Patten house receives no stars for service on this trip. Overall the food was pretty good, but we all had at least one complaint about our dishes. 2 of our guests had the chicken/andouille gumbo and said it was bland and they both hardly touched it. For the starters: crab cakes with grits was good. The real confusing one is the brussel sprouts. I had been here another time when Patten House was still new (fall 2014) and ordered these. We couldn't eat them. They were terrible...soggy, drenched in sriracha, just awful. The waiter asked if we wanted them boxed up, no thanks. But during this visit, everyone wanted to try the brussel sprouts (despite my warning) - they were THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE! They were flaky, crunchy, light pieces, delicious, bacon pieces, balanced flavor, i have no idea what happened the previous time... As for my entree, I went with the salmon. It was too spicy I couldn't eat the whole thing. I asked the waitress if it was really spicy beforehand and she said no. The asparagus was tough, sweet potatoes did balance the cayenne kick from the salmon, but still, spicy. The portion was large, I split it into two but never ate the other half. Despite all of this, we all also agreed that we would give it another shot...

Generally okay food but we entered the patio (which has a paver walkway leading to the patio gate), grabbed a table & were finally told we needed to check in with the hostess first. So, we did & were put back at the same table - so just a waste of time walking up the stairs & inside on a hot, sweaty day. Several months later we made the same mistake (guess I'm a slow learner - maybe a sign on the patio entrance (exit only?) would help) so we went inside to check in & were ignored while two other parties were seated. We just left - the food is not great & the hassle is just unnecessary.

My girlfriend & I drove into Geneva for dinner and stumbled upon this brand new spot, which is conveniently located near All Chocolate Kitchen (our tradition for the past few years). Still new enough for slightly disorganized service, but the unusual, cozy atmosphere was enough to keep us there. The bar is a little small for efficiency's sake, but we managed to find seats during our wait on a busy night and Ostra gave us great service with a smile. Bar clientele were upbeat & we enjoyed our experience so much, we decided to give up our table & dine at the bar. Vegetarian selection is too limited but ambience will bring me back for a future celebration. I will say the veggie burger and muffuletta salad are both to die for!

We visited The Patton House soon after they opened this summer and gave them 4 stars. There were a few bugs to work out, but overall pretty good. We decided to try them again a couple weeks ago. They had a plumbing problem at the time and were closed. So this morning (1/24) we called around 11am) to make a reservation . . .no answer, but their answering machine said to leave a message. We left a message requesting a reservation for 3 for an early 5:30pm seating (or anytime until 7pm or so and requested a call back. 2:30pm and no callback. : ( so we tried back again and were told now that there was nothing until after 9pm and "We don't take requests that are left on our voicemail" . . . which begs the question "Why do they have a voicemail that encourages you to leave a message?" There are lot's of terrific restaurants choices in Geneva . . . you lose Patton House.

After reading mixed reviews on Patten House, and seeing the most recent review more positive than not, we decided to try the place for my husband's birthday this past weekend. We almost didn't go . . . I called for reservations a full week ahead. I was told no reservations were available any time from 6-8pm the following Saturday. My husband called again two days later and was able to secure a 7pm reservation for the two of us. This put a bad taste in my mouth as I wondered why the suddenly he was able to secure a table whenever we wanted. In any case, we were seated immediately. We got a very attentive waitress. She gave us the specials and allowed us time to decide. When we ordered, our waitress advised that our pacing of dishes might be difficult for the kitchen as there were several large parties in attendance. This was my only complaint about the place . . . we were in and out (three courses) in ONE HOUR. I felt rushed. We told our waitress we were not in any rush as I took her comment on pacing to mean we may have some waiting between courses. Onto the food. . . we shared the honey siracha glazed brussel sprouts with bacon. I love brussel sprouts but my husband does not. We both loved this dish and the portion size was huge. Our dinners came with a soup or salad and we both opted for the soup of the day which was a corn chowder with andouille. It was amazing with a little kick from the sausage. My husband had the pecan and andouille stuffed chicken which he liked, but would try something else next time. I had the cayenne maple glazed salmon which was incredible. It had a good kick from the cayenne but the sweetness from the maple glaze. The food overall was so incredible. I am only sad we did not have room for dessert. I can't wait to go back and try again. I am hoping for a more leisurely pace.

My husband and I have eaten here six times since July 2014. Fantastic food and service every single time. We have taken out of town guests here at least 3 times and everyone loves it as much as we do. You will definitely want to order the Honey-Sriracha Brussels Sprouts. Definitely not to be missed! The crab cakes are also delicious. I've loved everything I have tried.

What a lovely spot for dinner! We found Patten House while walking to the Sunday French market, and despite a short wait, got a table upstairs. The surroundings are fabulous--a fully restored historic home in Geneva. Our server was friendly and knowledgable, and although she was also responsible for attending to an outdoor patio table, prompt in providing whatever we needed. I had the catfish with dirty rice. Very tasty, just enough spice to the rice. My spouse had the stuffed chicken, which was packed with flavor from the andouille sausage. We shared a Cabernet and the trifle (delicious--highly recommend!) and returned to the market to walk off some of the meal. ;) I'd love to sit on the patio next time.

We first tried The Patten House in December 2014. We were seated in one of the small second floor rooms that was packed and noisy, impossible to have a conversation without raising your voice. Service was extremely slow, at least 10 minutes before a server showed up at our table. Took another 15 minutes to get our cocktails and at least 40 minutes after placing our dinner order before we received our salad, and I don't want to forget the rock hard bread that came with the meal. Within 3 minutes of getting our salad, our entrees arrived so we had multiple plates stacked up on the table. All would have been forgiven if the food was good..........it wasn't. Fast forward to June 21st. We were out for a Sunday afternoon and decided to give The Patten House a second try. We live in the area and saw they had a very nice outdoor patio and thought we might have a couple of cocktails and an early dinner. It was about 4:00PM when we arrived. We went to the patio area, saw there were at least 6 empty tables and also saw the sign that asked patrons to first check in with the hostess so that's what we did. Told her we'd like to sit outside. She proceeded to walk us out to the front of the restaurant's narrow front porch where they have some small bar tables scattered about. Didn't seem very appetizing to us so I told her we'd like to sit out back on the patio. She very nicely informed us they don't allow parties of two on the patio and reserve those tables for larger groups. When I informed her there were at least 6 open tables back there I was again recited the house policy regarding the patio. Only when she sensed my aggravation did she say let me check with the Manager. The Manager was apparently busy so we stood in the small entry area and waited for a period. My patience ran out, we thanked her for her time and left. I took my hundred dollars and spent it at another nice Geneva establishment and had a great afternoon. I will never go back to The Patten House.

I LOVED the ambiance and the food. Once I got past wishing the house was mine, my family and I really enjoyed several menu items (ranging from excellent apps, salads, seafood, and red meat items). The service and cocktail/wine lists were a great plus too! Family friendly but also perfect for a date night

went last week with another couple and had a fantastic meal. I have the grouper which was cooked perfectly. my wife ordered the pork chop, it was huge and she liked it so much she wouldn't even let me try a but. the couple we were with had the whitefish and the game hen. they really enjoyed it. the building and atmosphere are great, they did a wonderful job remodeling and attention to detail is amazing. service was very good. cocktails at the bar were good and quick. dinner server was timely and very nice. they had plenty of staff to assist with food running and bussing as well. I will be back many times we had a fantastic experience

There was a slight snafu with the reservations, but once we sat down on the patio it all melted away. As a vegetarian I don't have high expectations for interesting meals, usually defaulting to a salad or a pasta dish. The quinoa stuffed poblano pepper was such a treat. It is health, delicious, and unique. Clearly the chef put effort into the creation of this vegetable masterpiece. This is the perfect spot for patio dining.

We went in for lunch on a Tuesday. The brussels sprouts appetizer was great, the brie not so much. I had the heirloom tomato blt. It came with a beefsteak tomatoes, I only ordered it sandwich for the heirloom tomatoes. I also asked if it came with onions, and was told no. When the blt came it was loaded with onions, it was an awful sandwich with rubber bacon, cheap tomatoes, and a load of onions. Another example of a menu description being better than the final product. We had banana fosters for dessert, another poor choice. Overall the place was nice, the food was not.

Second times the charm! Went for my mom's 60th birthday and the food/service was fantasitc. Our waitress Courtney was super helpful and on point. Our table was charming and the food was delicious, we started with the crab cakes and dates..followed by fantastic gumbo, the shrimp, pecan chicken and catfish...not to mention the desserts. We will be back!

Let me put it this way... The place is so new, obviously they HAD growing pains. Don't let the bulk of the reviews for this place change your mind- phenomenal. Seating: It was 6pm on a Saturday, place was packed, 'table for two', and we were seated immediately. Service: fantastic, prompt, professional. Food: Amazing. Seriously... Flavorful, and perhaps some of the best food I've had in the area that I can recall. Gumbo is amazing, jambalaya and catfish, phenomenal. My wife's ribeye was awesome too. I must say, by the looks of the food at surrounding tables, I'll be safe diversifying my order next time I visit. I can't wait to come back!

"If someone gave me a gift card here, I would re-gift it," -Dining Companion (--) The short story: It may sound harsh, but this place is an unforgivable let down. It reeks of a tinkering restauranteur who has zero experience or insight into how a restaurant actually operates. The kitchen isn't half of the size one should be for the epic amount of seating at this place and there appeared to be one POS per floor making putting in orders a warring dogpile for servers. Wake up, people! Tables need to be removed so the kitchen has a chance at keeping up and producing quality food. The staff is clearly over-whelmed and these rookie mistakes should have been worked out long before we arrived. The unabridged version: (+) The house is well-appointed and the restaurant itself is beautiful. (-) But that's where the attention to detail ends. As others have mentioned, there was no accounting for the cacophony that ensues in the mansion's high ceilings, fabric-less furnishings, and elbow-to-elbow tables. (-) First impressions are the high-school aged hostesses. I should have been wary after I told one of them the name of our reservation, knowing the other half of our party had been seated already. She gave me a blank stare and said she didn't recognize the name. We ended up hunting around for them and sat ourselves. UNacceptable at $30/entree. I'm not just paying for food. (-) I was excited for a night out and couldn't wait to see the cocktail menu since I had my heart set on a bourbon drink. Guess what? NO COCKTAIL LIST and no fresh mint at the bar when I inquired. I ordered an Old Fashioned with sadness in my heart. (--) Appetizers and soup/salads were poorly timed and over-lapping. Mussels were so salty my fiancé grimaced. Coconut shrimp was over-done. When our entrees FINALLY arrived the duck breast was an embarrassing well-done. It had obviously sat under a heat lamp and been ruined while someone expertly mis-timed our dish preparation. The portions were laughable. When I order a duck breast I expect a breast, not four measly slices! My grouper was good, more Asian-inspired than New Orleans and plated with CANNED mandarin oranges that also made an appearance in the mussels. Surely, she must be joking, right? Nope. Our friend's chicken had to be sent back as she ate part of it before realizing the rubbery texture was the result of under-cooked poultry. My grouper and the boys' duck were "garnished" with the same sweet potato shoe strings. Utterly useless in adding to either dish. (+/-) When the bill came we had to speak to who I assumed was a manager to ask that something be comped as the meal was horrible (at a restaurant that values customer experience this is normally done ahead of time without the diner's request). She was great and removed both of the ducks from our bill. We skipped dessert and headed to All Chocolate Kitchen. We are NEVER going back and hoping someone else takes the place over.

Brussel sprouts are fantastic! Bacon wrapped figs are amazing! I ordered the chicken entree and it was tasty but the chicken was a bit dry. Great atmosphere and fantastic service. Wish I lived in IL so I could come back and try more. Definitely a cool place.

My husband and I thought we would try this out regardless of the less than favorable reviews. We didn't have reservations but we walked in and they said it was a 20 min wait. After about 15 mins we were brought to our table. The service was good. The bartenders and waitress could have been a little more attentive but it wasn't bad. Don't be mislead by the reviews! The food was delicious and they seem to be making improvements to the service. The crab cake appetizer was the best we had in a long time. The salmon and jerk chicken sandwich were very good! The atmosphere is pleasant. It is a must try!

The Good-unique set up with a solid selection of food. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was very tasty. I didn't see this place before the remodel but they have it looking good. Outside seating options as well. The Bad-we had reservations at 7:00 and didn't get seated 7:40. We had to wait a while to get our drinks at the bar as well. The air circulation is not the greatest.

My husband, twin toddlers, and I just went for lunch today and we were blown away!! Service was EXCELLENT! We ordered the burger, shrimp po boy, and the mac n cheese off the kids menu. Sunday dinner with my fiancé...We were seated right away. No wait. Food was wonderful but service was quite slow. The restaurant was pretty packed for a Sunday night which I believe slowed the kitchen down. I come from a creole background and the food was very good! I ordered the shrimp and grits small plate + a bowl of the gumbo. Shrimp and grits was great! I would get it again! Gumbo was not my favorite. It was too thick for my liking. Atmosphere was delightful and cozy. Beignets for dessert are a must. The were very yummy!

I've been to Patton House three times, and I've been pleased at the service and atmosphere, however I wasn't a fan of the upstairs rooms for dining. They're far too noisy and we felt crammed together. The downstairs is gorgeous, and I enjoyed their patio. At each visit we all enjoyed our food. The Gumbo is to die for.

I loved this place! Cozy and beautiful. The staff and owner were very attentive and friendly. My experience was amazing. I was visiting from Colorado. My friend and I went here for cocktails and dinner. We were acknowledged immediately and seated at a table near the bar until our table was ready. We were early so that was nice. Then we were seated on the front patio. Beautiful ambiance and scenery. Ordered the daily special which was king crab legs with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. SO delicious! Great restaurant!

Had a wonderful lunch yesterday at Patten House! We sat at the bar and Nick, the bartender, took great care of us, was personable...and made me an amazing Hendrick's cucumber gimlet (ok, 2). We ordered the crabcakes with grits and the Sriracha Brussels Sprouts and they were both fantastic and plenty to share for the two of us for lunch, along with their delish biscuits. This is definitely a more laid back, relaxed, fine dining experience - while attentive, I wouldn't expect to be in and out in 30 minutes. However, isn't that what Southern hospitality is all about? Patten House is a place you should want to sit back and stay awhile - we certainly did and we'll surely be visiting again!

This place is incredible!! Great drinks, had the Brussels, catfish nuggets, and crab cakes/grits for appetizers and all were amazing. Table of four each had different entrees, waitress was able to supplement different sides specific to our tastes, bread was amazing. Red meat entrees were cooked as requested, which is so appreciated. It was just an all around great experience. I recommend a reservation and know that it does get very loud in there. We were there on a Saturday night, so I cannot speak to weekday volume.

I am not easily impressed by most restaurants (and therefore don't write too many reviews on here), but after my first visit to Patten House tonight, this is my new favorite restaurant. I went with my father and we shared two different soups (the cream of tomato basil and the gumbo), both of which were phenomenal. Entrees were also fresh and very tasty! I wasn't sure what to expect when I heard this was New Orleans cuisine, but I am very glad I we gave it a try. I have nothing bad to say about our experiance tonight and will definitely come back. What a wonderful addition to Downtown Geneva's dining options!

Decided to try this restaurant again this evening. I sat at the bar as I was by myself..being single I do eat out frequently alone. I felt very comfortable with the game on and the bartenders couldn't have been kinder. I ordered the gumbo and it was filling and delicious and again ordered the grouper , it was just as great as it was on Mothers Day. The Sauvingon Blanc was very nice and I was so full that I had to take half to go. The bill was very reasonable and it was a nice early evening out. Met some interesting people at the bar..it is quite relaxing and the owner family are very kind and welcoming. I found out the chef is one of my favorites from Foxfire and Atwaters...thier loss!!.My kids and I had such a wonderful time on Mothers Day and I told them..from here on out this is the place for us on our special occasions as my son takes the train in from Chicago to Geneva..Exceptional food, presentation, staff and environment... After a round of golf stopped in for lunch and a cold one. For a Friday it was pretty empty. Nice day so we sat outside. After a good wait with no sign of a server in sight I asked my wife what's wrong with this place? No water, no drinks, no servers! We left and went to Fiora's down the street. Get it together!

We went here for lunch at it was delicious! The atmosphere is really cool as it's a restored building with a friendly staff. The menu is a tad pricey, but the meal was very good. I had the Cajun beef stew along with the Cornish game hen that comes with cranberry walnut stuffing and carrots. I would definitely go back!

I stumbled upon a review of The Patten House in the newspaper. I decided to surprise my wife by taking her to dinner here because she's a history buff and loves New Orleans. We drove all the way from Palatine and the food, service and setting were exactly what we were hoping for. Drinks: We started with dirty martinis which were some of the best I've had. The bleu cheese olives, also some of the best I've had. We then switched to beers from their beer menu that does not disappoint. Food: We started with the crab cakes (as they seem to be every reviewer's favorite). We loved them. The cakes themselves and the remoulade were just like we get in Nawlins and the grits they come with had great flavor. I could have eaten an entire bowl of them. Then we split the jambalaya entree and a shrimp po' boy. The ingredients in the jambalaya were fresh and oh so good. The po'boy had the right amount of kick to it. The slaw topping was my favorite part. We had sweet potato fries as the side. Very delicious. Service: Our server was friendly and very attentive. She was knowledgable about the menu. Didn't miss a beat. Setting: The building is more beautiful than the pictures. The interior is tastefully done with gray paint tones, dark-stained wood doors and framing and furniture pieces that fit the history. We will definitely be back! P.S. Anyone who gives this place a 1 or even 2 star review needs to get off of their high horse and start appreciating life a lot more.

I feel the need to update this review because, after a second visit, I'm just sort of lukewarm to it all. Beautiful place, great location, good idea, okay execution. Servers are nice, but not extremely timely. The food is okay, but it's not great. The jambalaya was so so. The jerk chicken sandwich was mediocre (and not made as described even after I pointed out the missing ingredients and had the dish sent back), and the catfish nuggets were sort of sad. Overall, I think the kitchen just can't keep up. That sets the servers up to fail and, in the end, the restaurant will fail just the same. They're still newish, but they need to offer more than a good location if they want to keep up. New is no longer an excuse.

Last night had an early dinner 6pm before a show with friends. Wonderful ambiance -such a cool house and patio. By far the Brussel sprouts were the best thing on the menu.... Sadly all the entrees were lukewarm from the gumbo to the prime rib and the wait staff was inattentive. We still had empty used appetizer plates on our table as they served dessert....we had to ask they be removed. Beignets were raw dough in the middle....not sure if we will return...maybe just for appetizers and then on to somewhere else.

Went with my family (4) on a busy Friday night. First time. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were seated on the patio within 10 minutes. Our server was John V. Although the kitchen was slow, the food was excellent. We had a nice time. I'd go back again and try indoor seating and perhaps go with another couple instead of the kids.

I have gone to Patten House twice and all in all do like this restaurant. The three stars are because the food has been good, not great and given the price points the food should be consistently very good to great. The layout and look of the restaurant is great, very well done remodel. I will definitely try Patten House again as I do find restaurants improve over time just as any business or person would. Experience is a great thing

If I could give it half a star, I would. I'd like to chalk this up to opening month problems but I know its not. Went there for dinner last night. Party of two, seated immediately which was nice and a little unexpected. The place looks fantastic inside and out. The server seemed pleasant and attentive. My date ordered the gumbo and liked it. It came with some biscuits that were very dry and not warm at all. We waited 45 minutes for crab cakes and the "cajun burger". When the food arrived I was stunned honestly. My date got 2 burnt, and i mean BURNT, tiny crab cakes... for $12 and a scoop of grits that she said were good. My burger, which I had ordered med rare, was black. It was like a rock. I knew it looked gross but still had to take a bite to see. It was awful. There was no "spicy mayo" on it, there was no "white cheddar" on it, and it wasn't even in the same ballpark as med rare. There was some yellow cheddar on it that was oily, and they even screwed up the soggy sweet potato fries that came with it. I went to the front and grabbed a menu because I was convinced this was not what I had ordered. The server saw me and asked if everything was ok. I told her the burger was inedible and she brought who I assumed was the manager over who examined it, took it away and told me they would bring me a new one. It seemed like this was not the first order returned to the kitchen that day , as it felt rehearsed. Anyways about 10 minutes later I get a new burger. It was well done but it was still juicy, so I ate it. No seasoning on the patty and it felt and tasted like a frozen beef patty. The missing mayo had appeared but the white cheddar was still missing. The fries were still dreadful. We declined to opportunity to get some dessert and just asked for the check. The check came and on it were 2 salads we had not ordered. 15 minutes later when our server came to collect the check, she argued that we had indeed ordered these salads. After conceding and removing the salads she later apologized and said the salads were from a different table. Sorry Patton House, I wanted to like you, I really did, but if you cant make a $10 burger, im scared to see what you will do with a $40 steak.

Made a reservation 10 days in advance for 7:30 on Sat night and were seated immediately at a pub table near the bar. Building renovation is beautiful but sound level is a tad loud. Server was attentive and wine list was reasonable. I ordered the stuffed chicken and it was excellent. My husband ordered the BBQ grilled shrimp and the it arrived luke warm with the shell on which would not peel. He sent the BBQ shrimp back and ordered a sandwich which arrived 10-15 minutes later so we ended up eating our meals separately. In retrospect I should have sent my meal back to the kitchen until his meal was ready. We were charged for what we bought and offered no compensation for the problem with his meal. Doubtful that we'll return with so many other excellent dining options in the Tri Cities.

I have been to New Orleans many times and really like Cajun food. It seems this restaurant knows what to cook just now how to prepare and cook it. We went the second night it was open. Service was very poor and they delivered my Soup after the Main course. Gumbo was so peppery and I could not eat more than two spoons of it. My Main course was Jambalaya which was also very peppery way beyond the norm I would get in New Orleans. My wife had crab cakes which we dry and not very good. One thing I found very unusual and odd, is that the wait staff was not allowed in the kitchen! My wife and I normally will give a restaurant two tries before we take it off our dinning out list. In this instance we have decided that its not worth trying again. Summing this review up, Poor service and food that is not that good. Its to bad as we were looking forward to having a Cajun style restaurant nearby. Unfortunately this is not it.

Had dinner with my girlfriend on a Saturday night. Place was very busy but we had a reservation and were seated immediately. The food was exceptional and we had no problems at all with the service. Highly recommend the crab cakes.

Really good food and atmosphere. Such a cool old house. Despite other reviews, they seemed more than well staffed. Almost too much. People were right on top of filling glasses and taking away plates. Sorta felt like being stalked. But the food was top notch. I had the jumbo grilled shrimp. And they were super jumbo. The dirty rice was incredible. Husband had the stuffed pepper. He said it was ok. Friend tried the jumbalaya for the first time and was blown away. We sat inside which was amazing. They did a great job keeping the old house intact. The patio was beautiful too. I think they are only going to get better with time.

Visited the Patten House last Wednesday and was pleasantly surprised at the overall experience. The house itself is beautiful, and the tasteful decor truly helps create an exceptional ambience. The food was awesome; hot and tasty. Perfect variety of drinks. I sat at the bar, and enjoyed quick, friendly service all night from the attentive, accommodating bartenders. Highly recommended, give this place a try.

I'm giving it 5 stars to offset the haters that are giving this place 3 or less stars. I'm really rating this a 4 1/2. Get over it. This is a GORGEOUS place with exceptional food. The service struggles because of the kitchen size and the layout of the restaurant. Again, get over it. It's reasonably priced, creative ingredients, and thoughtful presentation. I had the crabcakes, mussels and brussel sprouts. Wow. Crabcakes and grits were awesome, the jalapeno and manderin orange flavor with the mussels was the best I've had, and I begged the waiter for the recipe to the sprouts. I dont know where every other reviewer has been eating, but this place is a must go in the Tri City area.

My husband and I went for lunch. Jambalaya, gumbo and BBQ pork sandwich were ok. Will go back and try other items. Kim was great with advice on menu. Beautiful house, bar and patio.

My husband and I were excited to try this place. It is definitely in the "new restaurant" phase and we really tried not to hold it against them. We didn't have a reservation, so we had a couple cocktails at the bar while we waited for our table. $15 for a Kettle One & soda and a Crown & 7. I was surprised as to how reasonable the drinks were, I was expected $10/each. We were seated in a cute room with 4 tables. The decor in this place is fabulous. Lots of attention to detail put into it. Very nice. Then some confusion came. There was one grumpy looking waiter that was "waiting on" the other tables in our section. I put "waiting on" in quotes because I really don't think he was doing much besides moping around the restaurant with a frown face on. Luckily, the hostess that had sat us 10-15 minutes ago noticed our lack of service and asked us if any server had greeted us yet, and when we said no, she sent over a waitress from another section. She was awesome and was clearly a team player and seemed to be aware of the poor work ethic of Mr. Grumbles, who was probably supposed to wait on our table. We ordered red beans and rice and crab cakes for small plates. A few minutes later we ordered our meals and soups. It appears the kitchen is still getting the hang of things, as our soups came out first, then the crab cakes, then the red beans and rice and just minutes later our entrees. It would have been nice to have small plates, soups and then our meals, with a few minutes in between. Anyways, food reviews. I don't eat seafood, but my husband does. Red Beans and Rice: Yum! I could have eaten a huge bowl for my entree. I like it spicy so I might have added some red pepper flakes for a kick! But delicious non the less. Crab Cakes: My husband said they were amazing. The portion size looked good. Jalapeño Bisque Soup: TO DIE. This soup is heaven. Now that I'm thinking about it again, I wish I could have more right now. Such a unique recipe and the perfect flavor and spicy kick at the end. It is a must order. Jambalaya: Husband had it, said it was awesome. Applewood BLT: I got a sandwich. I wasn't feeling steak or a saucy stuffed chicken breast. Ugh, BLT, you kinda of failed me. I don't blame the actual recipe of the sandwich, I'm gonna blame the kitchen on this one. The bread had the vision of being toasted, but it was super soggy. As were the sweet potato fries. Probably was sitting under a heat lamp something. I didn't love the Cajun sauce on it, but it might have been because the whole thing was a soggy mess anyways. I ended up picking it apart and eating some parts. Biscuits: They were awesome! Overall, the place is good! We will be back, but maybe giving it a month or two to fix more of the kinks. Our waitress was awesome and we totally appreciated her taking care of us, when it was obvious we weren't in her section. There was a lady who was either a manager or the owner that was constantly around the restaurant. She didn't stop to say hello or greet us, which is fine, I know they were busy. But at least put on a smile or something!!! She didn't seem happy to be there and if we did have a complaint or an issue, I would not have felt comfortable to discuss it with her.

Awesome. Had a Great Lunch and will be back for Dinner. An old house converted into a Restaurant. The Lunch menu has a variety, as well as, the Dinner menu. Lunch consisted of a Brussel Sprout sample (Thank You Guys), the Fried Pork Chop Sandwich, and the Gumbo Soup.

Lunched with a friend ... Split the Brussel sprouts and the salmon salad and paired with a glass of Pinot Grigio recommended by our waitress -- everything was delicious! We ate on the patio after meandering through all the lovely rooms inside. We had a wonderful time!

I ate at The Patten House for the first time and I love it. Keep in mind I ate lunch so the restaurant was not crowded. The food was delicious, great service, wonderful atmosphere! I will most visit this place again for sure!

The restaurant is in a beautiful old mansion that has been painstakingly restored. A little reminiscent of the old Willoway Manor in Naperville with many smaller dining rooms. It was busy on a Friday night and the hostess(es) were nice, but young and inexperienced and seemed a little over matched in running the waitlist. We were eventually seated upstairs and it took awhile to be greeted by a server. I'm no restauranteur, but I think there might be something fundamentally wrong with the serving process that could use some streamlining, as the server seemed competent enough, but struggling to keep up. Anyway, why the 4 stars? Well, the food was very good. Burger, Muffaletta and Po' Boy. All quite good. Once the server had a handle on things our drinks and meals came in a timely manner. I'd go there again - but as of right now there are a few bugs to work out on the front end.

Delicious! Went here at the recommendation of several friends and was very pleased. The interior has been beautifully redone and is very cozy. My husband's prime rib was like butter, so heavenly. I had the duck and really enjoyed it. Was looking forward to the stone grits and they were far better than expected. My only complaint is there were so many yummy options it was hard to decide. Can't wait to go back. I look forward to drinking a cocktail on their killer porch this coming summer. For MI west siders, it reminded me of back home at Mangiamos in downtown East Grand Rapids.

My new favorite place! We were here on a Friday night at 6pm and even without reservations we had less than a 10 minute wait. We had an outstanding server and the food was absolutely delicious. We loved the food and had an absolutely delightful experience! We will definitely be going back!! :)

I've now given Patten House two tries and have had two completely different experiences. The first visit was a little rocky with my crab cakes being a little burnt and the food in general taking a long time to come out. My first visit was on a weeknight and the place was busy but not packed. The waitress was very attentive and did offer suggestions which I do appreciate. However, at the end the server had another tables order on it and when I pointed it she did slightly challenge me on it which was a little odd. After a minute or two she agreed that the two additional surprise charges were from another table she accidentally added to my bill she did remove them. I will add where I sat the first time was so much louder (room right to the right when you first walk in the main entrance). Granted two other larger groups were in that room too but I honestly could hardly have a conversation with my date the first time I visited this restaurant. Now my second visit was just yesterday (Sunday) and I decided to give this place another shot. My Dad loves New Orleans food and I thought he'd appreciate the building (atmosphere and architecture) which being a local myself seeing all the transformation there is no question this was beautifully re-stored and much detail to the craftsmanship in the woodwork is very noticeable. I treated my Dad for his birthday for lunch this past Sunday and did sit in another room (next to the side entrance from the deck and across from the bar at a high top table seating for 4). This room was much quieter and I could actually have a good conversation. We had a different waitress but she was equally as friendly as the last one as well as attentive. She suggested the brussel sprouts which my Dad to my surprise loves and he really enjoyed this small plate item. I raved about the gumbo that I had my first visit and they all decided to order to it too and all three of our gumbos came out delicious. I will add the gumbo tastes fresh, just the right amount of kick and nice portions of the sausage in it. My Dad ordered this baked chicken entrée that had a light cream sauce over it and potatoes on the side. He said is was cooked perfectly and he really seemed to enjoy that. I ordered the crab cakes again and they were cooked perfectly this time around. I love the sauce that is drizzled around the plate it has just the right amount of heat to it. The cheese grits are delicious and were cooked perfect too! The other guest with us ordered the stuffed peppers with the goat cheese and she really enjoyed her dish as well. I tried a little sample of it and first impressions I was skeptical of it but after my first bite I really enjoyed it. The pepper is nicely balanced with the goat cheese making it not too spicy but still s nice flavor to it. We didn't get dessert because we did walk up the street to All Chocolate Kitchen (pre planned idea by me). But the waitress did offer dessert suggestions that I would be interested to try my next visit. Overall, my second visit was much better and I'm happy I gave this place a second chance. I look forward to sitting out in the beautiful outside patio on my next visit.

Looked forward to Cajun style food on New Years Eve but was very disappointed. The best thing about The Patton House is the referbished old house. The service was adequate ( even though our salads and gumbos arrived while we were still eating our appetizers ) but the food was mostly bad. As Louisiana natives, we found the food lacking in Cajun flavors and southern finesse. The grits and rice were over-cooked ( except for the few extremely hard grains in the mix ) and the strip steak was really under-cooked. The chicken and andouille gumbo was more like a gravy than a stock, blindfolded I would have never guessed it. I had the andouille and pecan stuffed chicken; the andouille was more of a hash than a sausage but overall it had a nice sauce and good taste but no Cajun flavors. My husband liked his duck but my daughter's jambalaya was unrecognizable. It had more of a watery étouffée look. The ingredients were cooked to a mush and poured over rice ( over rice? That's not jambalaya ). We questioned the waitress on the consistency and she confirmed it was jambalaya. The beignets, which were nodular in shape, had little powdered sugar, no air and honey on them. I did ask for no honey. I though the dough taste resembled beignets but my husband strongly disagreed. Basically, any Cajun, New Orlean's inspired dish we ordered was terrible and the steak was way off temperature. We had a 4:30 reservation on New Years Eve. We were the only dinners in our room and the other rooms were sparse, there was no reason to rush a steak or have ingredients stewed into mush. It was a very disappointing $250 meal. Louisiana food takes time, learn some patience chef!

This is just what Geneva needed! The opening weekend might have been a bit rocky, but that's why we went back again. Food was excellent both times service was way better the second time! Tried Crab Cakes, Coconut Shrimp appetizers all GREAT! The Grouper was fresh and very tasty! Have to go back for Jambalaya next! Great outdoor dining too!

I had read the negative reviews of Patten House, but still wanted to be objective and determine things for myself. Sad to say, I should have trusted the reviews. On Saturday, we arrived for our 7:00 PM reservation 5 minutes early. Sweet teeny bopper hostesses said they would check on our table. The girls are cute and friendly, but clueless as to how to handle a Saturday evening dinner rush. We were told that no outdoor seating was available for our party of four, as there was a private party being held on the patio. First bit of advice to owners: Do not schedule large private parties until you get everything straightened out in your dining rooms. After checking, we were told it would be about 10 minutes until we would be seated. That is certainly an acceptable time frame considering it was Saturday night. After a half hour, we again inquired as to seating, again receiving the 10 minute answer. Twenty minutes later we again made an inquiry and were told it was almost ready. Finally were seated at approximately 8:00 PM. As other reviewers have noted, the noise level is horrendous. No where near conversation friendly. There has been absolutely no attempt to introduce any type of sound baffling, whether through carpeting, wall hangings, panels etc. This problem was compounded by, for lack of a better term, a "loudmouth" in his sweatshirt with the cut off sleeves and screaming, misbehaving 2 year old assuming everyone in the upstairs dining room was interested in what he had to say. If you are trying to promote yourself as a fine dining establishment, perhaps you should develop some sort of a dress code, nothing outrageous, just something to add a little more decorum. All that being said, I still wanted to judge the food objectively. When we asked our server if there were any specials that evening, we were told that they had only been open for five weeks, so everything on the menu was special. Asked what her favorite dish was, she pretty much read off everything on the menu. Since there is a definite New Orleans theme to the menu, I decided to go very traditional. I ordered the gumbo and the jambalaya. Not a great combination, as the two dishes were almost interchangeable, just slightly different textures. Incidentally, they both arrived piping luke warm, after having sat under a heat lamp for way too long. Timing is atrocious, as two other guests were still finishing their salads when the entrees were brought to the table. Rice/dirty rice must be scooped out of the same pot, as it all tasted the same. Quality of ingredients was mediocre at best, and there is not even a slight attempt at presentation. Scoop it in and hope for the best. I did go with an open and objective mind, but left sorely disappointed in both the food and service. Renovation of the building and grounds is beautiful, but perhaps they should have spent some of that money hiring and training a competent staff. These comments are not just coming from an old curmudgeon. I am a part-time instructor in the culinary arts and hospitality management programs at a local college. Owners, this place needs a re-working from top to bottom. Heed the comments of your guests and learn the meaning of the term "hospitality". I would be willing to try again in 6 months, assuming that Patten House is still in business.

My husband and I went there for an early dinner last night. I was dying to see the newly renovated historical Patten House and try its New Orleans style food. That place is a real WOW! Every detail of the decor was just right: The crystal chandeliers were both gorgeous and charming, and the reno of all the wood elements and floors was outstanding! My husband ordered the Gumbo along with his Whitefish dinner which were both excellent! I ordered the barbecue grilled Jumbo Shrimp (yum!) and it had a side of Dirty Rice (really good--could have eaten more!). Of course, I had to have the classic Beignets for dessert to round out my New Orleans experience! We were seated promptly, our waitress was great, and we were served in a timely manner--maybe the other reviewers just experienced the early growing pains of any new restaurant. We will definitely be going back!

We sat outside on a perfect summer night to enjoy our first visit here despite the mosquitos. We had a wonderful waitress (Kat) who gave wonderful suggestions and took good care of us. We ended up having apps as our meals which were fun and delicious. The property makes for an enjoyable time whether inside or out!

Going to any restaurant on a Saturday night is a gamble but they honoredd a 6:30 reservation and seated us promptly. The hostesses were gracious and welcoming. The place does not accomodate handicapped which is the biggest gripe I have. Parking on the street is a problem but we managed to get a handicapped spot in the back. However, getting into the restaurant was a big hassle along with leaving with many steps to manuver. We found the food good but not great --- the colors in the room we sat in ( to the right as you walk in the front door) were downright depressing and dull. Fabric is needed to bring down the noise level --- it was really loud. The service was good --- in fact the pacing of the courses was a little too fast -- I would not say this place is for leisurely dining -- in and out ! Their are other places in Geneva that offer a better dining experience.

This place is hit or miss. I've been here three times. Twice for brunch and once for dinner. The actual place is cool. Historic old house is warm and inviting with fireplace in front room. Great location. Bartender service was great. But overall service needs some work. Hostess maybe she's the owner actually... very uptight about party size. I started with 8 in my reservation and ended up with only 5. What can I say, people have lives. Things come up and people can't make it. Hostess made me feel stressed out about it. Having dinner is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable right? Our waiter, maybe he was new, needs some work. Brought our entrees before our soups and salads and then we had all our dishes on our table at the same time. I think we were supposed to get biscuits with our meal as well and we never got those. After we paid our bill they basically stopped waiting on us while we chatted. I guess they were ready for us to leave. This happened the first time I was here as well. Once you pay your bill forget about getting any additional service. Eggs Benedict are really good. Bloody Mary's are great. Dinner ... Meh. Jambalaya was just OK. Salad just OK.

This was our second visit to this fantastically beautiful restaurant. Loved it the first time...loved it again! Making reservations ahead, both times we were warmly greeted and seated promptly. Once seated, we were again engaged by the friendly staff and drink orders were taken and quickly delivered. Everything we have eaten at this restaurant has been DELICIOUS! Starting with the Crab Cake appetizer...the roasted Brussels Sprouts (which we could not finish and can't wait to eat today)...Coconut Shrimp....Jambalaya...and the amazing Catfish! You truly get the sense that you are in the South when meandering through the hallways of this beautifully restored home. It is a sight to behold and a dining experience that shouldn't be missed. One more reason to visit the charming town of Geneva!

Recently went to lunch and had the most amazing hamburger. My wife had the shrimp po boy sandwich which was equally good. Great atmosphere and attentive service. You must try Patten House for lunch when shopping on 3rd street. Next week we are heading there for dinner and look forward to it.

Tried the Patten House on a week day for lunch. There was a long wait for the outdoor seating, so we dined inside. We were seated immediately. The restaurant is a restored home that once functioned as the Kane County courthouse when the main courthouse was being built. The first floor dining areas are beautiful, with hardwood floors and high ceilings. The historic appointments were maintained nicely. The only drawback to the inside dining area is the noise level. The lack of window treatments and other potential sound baffles makes the dining area conversation challenged, and we were here on a slow lunch day. The menu has a creole theme, with pulled pork, muffalettas, crab cakes on the menu. Lunch prices are on the high side, averaging $10 to $12. The food was very good, even though the spice levels were rather light. I have my own expectations for Creole food, and the Patten House version is a very Americanized version of Creole. Service was excellent. If one does not expect authentic Creole cooking, you will not be disappointed. I would like to see the chefs experiment with the spiciness of the entrees, however, as all the dishes we tried did not exude powerful flavors or spices. This restaurant is very good, and can become a destination restaurant with a little tweaking. The renovation of the house into a restaurant, while maintaining the historic nature of the house, is worth an initial visit alone.

Please don't put too much stock in the bad reviews. I'm a local - and there are a lot of local restaurants I won't go to because of service, boring food, sleepy interiors. Geneva needs this place. It's been gorgeously redone, they've gotten their service kinks smoothed out, and the food is really delightful. The variety is great - and it's really well done. It's not 5 star, but it's better than so many other, pricier places in town. The patio is fantastic for the summer. They could use some sound absorbing material inside, but it makes it a lively, fun place. Go. Try it. If you don't like it fine... but I'm pretty sure you will. And the bartenders make pretty killer drinks.

Living in Geneva, we have walked by this old home for years now. The total remodel for this new restaurant was a welcome site. Now to the experience! Our anniversary was 7/10 so we decided to give it a try. I love New Orleans fare and wasn't disappointed at all. The appetizer, salad and dinner were great. Two Brothers ale for my spouse, red wine for me. Service, thank you Todd, was wonderful, polite and attentive, but not too much so. Nancy the owner introduced herself and asked what we thought. She, as well as the whole staff seemed to be working very hard, as the place was really full, including the outside area and the bar area. My only complaint was that the acoustics were pretty annoying. No curtains, no pictures, nothing to absorb the sound, and it was loud. I scooted next to my spouse and we could talk at normal volume. Prices were just fine, but mostly, all of the services were absolutely wonderful, and a surprise considering how recently this restaurant opened. We will definitely be going back, maybe for a PoBoy and a beer, outside at lunch or maybe for a wonderful dinner in the evening.

Food and atmosphere is great. Our best dishes were the brussel sprouts and pulled pork sandwich. The jerk chicken sandwich with pineapple was dry and flavorless but overall we were happy with the restaurant and want to go back to try some of the other unique dishes they offer.

The atmosphere is very refreshing and warm. The service was great, attentive but not overbearing. As for meal, our waiter steered us to the Brussel sprouts, they were excellent. Meals consisted of rib eye, jambalaya, and stuffed chicken. With the exception of a Luke warm rib eye, meal was great. Will definitely return

Went for the first time with a friend. Location is beautiful. They have done a nice job of converting a stately old home into a nice restaurant space with the rooms creating cozy eating areas. Feels small and intimate, even though it seats quite a few people. We had a reservation and were seated very quickly after we arrived. The staff were pleasant and knowledgable. The food was amazing. The Brussel sprouts are excellent. My friend had the salmon and loved it. I had stuffed chicken and it was also quite good. The creme brûlée was a little different, as they put salt on top in the caramelization process. Only two criticisms: first, I cannot have gluten, and I wish they would indicate gluten free options on the menu, rather than forcing the customer to have to keep asking and sending the waitstaff back to the kitchen to check. Second, we sat upstairs and the wooden chairs are very uncomfortable. The outermost spindles on the back of the chair are positioned so that you can't sit fully back into the seat without the spindles digging into your backside. Neither my friend nor I are large people, and we were uncomfortable. I cannot imagine how uncomfortable someone with a bigger backside would be trying to sit on those chairs. Despite these two issues, I will definitely go back.
