The dishes at Zen House are delicious. Most of the dishes I've ordered have been great. No complaints. I have to admit that. The owners and staff are also very nice. If your in a hurry, I would recommend you calling ahead of time. But if you can't, the wait is somewhat long. But there is a reason my family stopped coming to this place and why I am only giving this place a 1 star. (disclaimer on the statement below: I am not a health county inspector so I am not sure if this practice is allowed or not) I was waiting for my order near the cash register and I was looking at the way the cook makes the dishes. The cook uses some sort of rag to wipe-clean his woks every time he makes a different dish! That's disgusting! I can't imagine using a rag at home when I cook let alone at a restaurant. That's just not sanitary. We have relatives who own Chinese restaurants and the way they clean their woks between orders is by using kitchen style industrial-strength wire brushes. That way the woks are properly clean and all the food is removed. Your Beef With Broccoli doesn't end up tasking like your Fried Rice and vise versa.

For neighborhood, take-out Chinese this is our favorite place across Bolingbrook and Naperville. And we've tried every old and new place around town since moving here 8 years ago, all left us feeling like the food wasn't fresh or original. Love going in here and seeing them cutting fresh veggies and making original, tasty recipes. Won-ton soup is very good, the pot-stickers recipe is excellent and we've had many very good beef, chicken and shrimp dishes. The food is also very reasonably priced, and they will give you extra meat for only $2 extra (e.g. the kung pao chicken container overflows with meat when we order it). The family that runs Zen House is so friendly and conscientious (and they are not the original owner, who got the poor review from 2007). I can't believe that they wouldn't address any complaints immediately or cook to order. Zen House is terrific!

A fellow Yelper suggested this place when I had seemingly run out of local eating options. Thank you, Tim H. for the great suggestion! This is a pretty good option for fast carry-out Chinese that is much better than the swill served up at the Panda Express down the road. This is a relatively small establishment located in a strip plaza behind the Buona Beef. Although mostly built to handle carry-out, (no delivery option as of yet) there are about five four-top tables for dine-in counter service guests. The first thing you notice is how clean the place is. The floors are clean, and there is a counter with a large carafe of tea and a cooler of water with cups lined up for both, and the kitchen is a relatively open area, so you can watch food being prepared if so inclined. The kitchen is just a clean as the dining an waiting area. We placed our order as walk-ins, but our food was ready in less than fifteen minutes. We had wonton soup, pork fried rice, and a Mongolian beef dinner special (which came with fried rice and an egg roll.) Prices are decent, and the orders were large portions, so it was a great value. I have never met a wonton soup I didn't like, so that was fine here. The rice was fresh, but I can't say I am a fan of the peas and carrots mix that was cooked in. ( I guess it gave me a high school cafeteria kind of vibe.) I had the remainder of the Mongolian beef special the next day, and it was definitely my favorite! The sauce had a good spicy flavor, and it there was a perfect onion-to-beef ratio.

Went for lunch and ordered the chicken with garlic sauce lunch special. You definitely get your money's worth with the lunch specials. Food came exactly as ordered. Quality of food was very good. The only small complaint I might have was that it could have had more chicken. There was plenty of rice and vegetables but the amount of chicken could have been better. But for the price I am not going to complain. The eggroll and crab rangoon that came with the special were both very good and not greasy at all. Will definately be a regular here.

I have recently started going here after passing it constantly. I was very amazed at the quality of both the service and food. They have great Egg Fu Yung and the presentation of the food actually matches the pictures. Their lunch specials are a great value and provide enough food for both me and my wife.

This place is a hidden gem on weber road....compared to China house and little china (also on weber), this joint probably has the best chinese you can get in the romeoville bolingbrook weber area....im not saying its top notch...but compared to the other places in this area, this is one of best i've had so far. I must applaud the cook for using jumbo shrimp in their shrimp fried rice....almost all the places i've gotten shrimp fried rice from had premature baby shrimp....yes PREMATURE baby shrimp...most places use these titty bitty annoying baby shrimp...you'll have to use a microscope to find one in a pile of rice..thats not that case at zen house......the shrimp here are built like chicken nuggets.....plump and juicy like Beyonce's thighs... Another thing i noticed was that their fried had traces of scrambled eggs and mixed veges....it wasnt just bare fried rice loaded with soy sauce like the other places....its was decent. i tried their kung pao and mongolian beef.....much more flavorful than the other places.....it didnt taste gooey and starchy....it didnt taste like straight up soy sauce....the sodium content was just right....the flavors were balanced enough.... SIMPLE BALANCED DECENT PRICE APPROPRIATE I like this place...no more china house and little china RUDENESS.....i live in romeoville but i'll rather drive to ZEN house... GIVE IT A TRY...its not bad at all...i wish i could rate them 3.75 stars but i cant so a 4 star rating it is....

Fantastic food. Huge portions. You get what you pay for. This is by far one of the BEST Chinese places in Bolingbrook. Fresh veggies and no MSG by request. Always pleased with the portions. Only problem is that the lady at the counter barely speaks a word of English and their kids are ALWAYS at a table off to the side. Food is great though and the DUCK dishes and eggrolls are outstanding. Very traditional Chinese food. Wish they delivered!

Best takeout Chinese in the area! The egg rolls (esp the shrimp) and potstickers are exceptional. We love the pork with mushrooms and the beef with broccoli. Mu shu pork is really fresh and not all cabbage. There's a nice dining area if you want to eat your takeout there. Just remember to grab whatever sauces you like as they don't automatically put them in the bag when you take out.

Walked in here on a whim, in need of some lunch. Place is pretty generic but does offer some seating so you don't always have to always get take out. The staff is nice and helpful. The food has been consistent on all future trips. I would recommend to anyone in need of some quick Chinese food in the area.

We were so excited when this Chinese restaurant/take out place opened right behind our house! Well so much for that!! We ordered our normal Mongolian Beef and it sucked! It was almost all onion! There were a few pieces of beef but like 2 ibs. of onion! I don't recall there even being white onion in this dish! I called them to tell them that it was awful and I would like to bring it back and get some beef with my onion and she didn't say it was ok and offer any resolution. We are so bummed this place couldn't be good. Oh well, I guess it's back to the ride to Tong's in Naperville!

Boo. I got this menu delivered to my door and since I'm new in the area, decided to give it a try. It's pretty bad when a Chinese place messes up fried rice, but this was the saddest fried rice I've ever seen. Rice w/ soy sauce and a pea here and there, some really thin (looks like spaghetti!) strips of chicken....The crab rangoons were the smallest I've ever seen in my life. It's not horrible but it's not good.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
