Like some other people who have posted reviews, I am also from Texas. This food, while not as good as the comida in Texas, is very tasty! I have never had a problem with the service either. I typically order the combo fajitas and add grilled jalapenos to it. The amount of food, for the money, is a great deal! I can eat on it for about 3 days. If staff from Vallarta's reads this, maybe they should work on their customer service issues, as it sounds like many people have had poor experiences, based on service issues.

I'm a huge Vallarta's eater and on some drives home from USF, I can't help but pull over here and grab some tacos de carne asada with some of their delicious tortilla chips and dip. Coming from California, it's hard for Mexican food to please me after I've tasted the wonders of Mexican food in San Francisco, however they do a pretty swell job. The location has a different look than the others and although the makeup is different, the food still tastes great. Most people cannot deny the great taste of their food, and if I could think of a great gift it would be coming home and opening the fridge to boxes of takeout from Vallarta's. It's really that good.

By far, my favorite Mexican Restaurant in Tampa. I used to eat here a lot when I lived there. Now, when I travel to Tampa, it is a MUST stop. I got my wife HOOKED on the Chimichangas!!!! If anyone says the food is not good, they are not to be believed. In fact, I am planning trip to the MOSI museum for my kid just so I can eat at Vallartas.

Let me start off by saying that I am lucky enough to have traveled to Mexico several times and to several different areas. I am also originally from the Oklahoma/Texas area and I was totally spoiled with the readily available excellent Mexican food restaurants around almost every corner. Since moving to FL about 2 years ago, I have yet to find even one place that compares to all of the yummy Mexican food that I've eaten in my 30-something years. A friend recommended Vallarta's and assured me that I would not be disappointed. She was very, very mistaken. At first sight, I was excited to see the cheesy decor that most Mexican restaurants have and also to see actual Mexicans working there. Unlike the other reviews, our service was great! We had chips & salsa on our table literally 10 seconds after sitting down. I had a water and my S.O. had a Dos XX's mere minutes after ordering them. I decided on the chicken enchiladas and he ordered a combo that had a beef taco, chile relleno and a beef enchilada. We dug in to the chips & salsa, which were just "okay" for us. Then it goes downhill.... Fast.... The food came out quickly and it was nice & hot, but at first taste we both stopped chewing and just looked at each other. It was AWFUL. We are not food snobs by any means. There really isn't much out there that I don't like and my boyfriend is pretty much a human garbage disposal, but this food was truly terrible. The chicken tasted like it was merely boiled with absolutely no seasoning. The tortillas fell apart and crumbled as if they were days old and sitting out on a counter. The chile relleno was some kind of mystery mush that did not resemble ANY chile relleno that I had ever seen and it tasted as bad as it looked. The beans tasted weird. The rice was mushy and flavorless. Everything on our plates was just BAD and after a few bites, we both stopped eating, got the check and left. I've tried about 10 different Mexican restaurants in the Tampa area so far and this one is the absolute worst.

My review is more for the service here than anything. The server's are not attentive at all. Last time I was in my table was completely forgotten to the point we were about to walk out. When the food did come the orders were wrong and some food was cold.

Massive portions, averagely authentic, decent service. Known for their traditional, no frills food, this Mexican restaurant may be better suited for those who are rather desperate for a sit-down Mexican joint. Atmosphere is relatively drab, servers speak very little English but their dishes are consistently enjoyable. Oh and there's a 2-7PM happy hour everyday.

This is the only Vallarta's we will go to. Everything is delicious and comes out fast. Best salsa around (unless I make it myself)!

My wife and I love going to eat out at this restaurant, they have the best Mexican food in town, that if you want the real test of Mexico. If not, you can go to Taoco Bell. I have look at the other reviews of Vallarta's and Carlos H. agrees with me and anybody with a test for real Mexican flavor this is the stop for real down home Mexican food.

I eat at Vallarta's regularly and I have to disagree with a lot of the negative reviews. 99% of the meals I've had here have been delicious--and this is coming from someone who has spent plenty of time in Mexico and eaten more than her fair share of Mexican food. Vallarta's offers tasty, reasonably priced meals and drinks in a delightfully ridiculous atmosphere. The food is a mix of authentic items and some more Mexican-American fare. The portions are generous and I never leave hungry. As to the service, it can be a little awkward at times but the servers are never rude and service is usually pretty fast. Vegetarians - they have a separate veggie menu, which is priced a little lower than many of the regular items. I usually get the veggie fajitas, but the combinations are nice too. Also, if you like to drink, you can't beat the price on the margaritas. I usually share a half pitcher of the strawberry margaritas, which is priced at about $10 and is the perfect size for 2 people to have around 3 drinks each. Bonus: they offer re-usable discount coupons for $5 off a purchase of $25 or more, so you can get a good meal at a really good price here.

Their food is always good, but sadly their service almost always sucks :(

A friend of mine took me here for the lunch buffet - and despite it being a buffet - this was fantastic. Soup, enchiladas, fajitas, rice, tortillas, and flan were really good. Somewhat paradoxical considering the mass production. I expected globs of gluey-refried bean mess, chalky tortillas, grease-laden burritos, and corn syrupy flan. Instead, it was all tasty, above-average fare. And I was one of the few gringas in there. Sweet.

Wow, what a disappointment. The service was horrendous. Our server was more interested in spending time at his friend's tables that he was checking on us, so we were ignored time and time again. The food was overcooked and under portioned, so much so that the expensive price we paid made the experience even worse. Not a single person from server to clerk to manager ever asked us how we liked our food or anything else. A long time ago we had a good experience here, but that has changed. Not a place we'll go back to.

Terrible Experience! I wanted to select zero stars, but YELP made me select at least one. I've been to Vallarta's twice and both times have been at lunch. I am a HUGE Mexican food person. I probably eat it once a week and always hit a good Mexican restaurant when I travel. Honestly, the food here is mediocre at best. The salsa has little taste, but the chips are good. The food is of ok quantity, but poor quality. Nothing to write home about. Its just ok. Not terrible, not great and certainly not authentic. The service is what made me come to this site to post my opinion. I've only been to the 56th St location, so I can only opine on that location. Absolutely, positively the WORST service I've ever had....ever! Anywhere, and I eat out a lot for pleasure and business. The waiter treated us like trash today and talked to me like a dog. I've worked in restaurants in the past and no matter how slow or bad the food is I have always left a tip. Well, not today. Today was a first. One of my lunch companions even complained to the so called "manager" and he did nothing. You could actually hear them laughing at us in the kitchen. The place was not busy and we were a table of 7 and truly treated terrible. Asking for silverware and drink refills was seriously a burden on our waiter. It was atrocious and absolutely unacceptable. I was shocked that a manager would allow his servers to run the establishment. The manager clearly knows nothing about managing and the server clearly knows nothing about serving. I would avoid this place like the plague. There are so many other places in the area that deserve our hard earned money. Vallarta's is not one of them.

Great tacos, but the place wasn't very clean. The bathroom was dirty and the general overall feel of the restaurant was not very high quality. Better go to the location on Anderson, they actually care about the atmosphere.

Have been here several times and find it acceptable Mexican style food. We live close and it is reasonably priced. Happy hour 2 for 1 Margaritas and beer. Margaritas are not top shelf but pretty good. Chimichanga is tasty, Fajita quesadilla is one of our favorites too. The combo platters are filling and fairly standard fare. I would stay away from the rellenos, canned chile w/ wierd ground beef. " Chalupa" is what I have always called a "tostada", but it is good. Tried the "Sopa pillas" for dessert which was a greasy fried flour tortilla with squeeze margarine and sugar on it,.a must avoid! I have had real sopa pillas in New Mexico and this is not it! Overall not bad but service is slow if busy.

Food-wise this is the second best Mexican restaurant I know of in Tampa. It only pales to Algusto's on Kennedy. The food and salsa here are fantastic. Too bad the service is pretty horrible most of the time. Go here for good food, but don't say I warned you when you're still waiting for a server to refill your drink after 10 minutes.

I'm not sure if it's just the location or what, but this place is absolutely terrible. If you have to eat here, don't order anything except the chimichanga. The chips and salsa were decent, but I've had better at Chili's (ugh).

I just found this place maybe a month ago and have already gone back quiet a few times. They make there owns salsa and chips and it's always very good. I always order the Chimichanga and it's amazing. The dishes vary slightly each time, assuming because of the different cooks, but it's always good. They give you large portions at cheap prices, you never walk away hungry and often come out with a to-go box. The servers aren't great, they'll put menus on your table then walk away. Most of them aren't very good with English but a few are great. That's really the only downside. While it's not the best Mexican I've ever had, it's probably runner up. Defiantly the best in the area!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
