We didn't even get to eat at this place because the Hostess was not being too welcoming and claimed they don't have a take-out menu for us to look at. Seems like a really nice and comfortable place to dine-in at, but it's really a shame to turn down new customers and try to have us look online for their prices. End up having our dinner somewhere else and had a great time. Will not consider this place at all in the future.

Kobe is your typical Japanese Steakhouse, though it doesn't rank as highly as some of the other ones I've been to. The food is pretty good and the service is as well. I love my mustard sauce so I always have to get extra. Any of the seafood dishes are usually where it's at. The hibachi action is the best part so make sure you come while they have hibachi grill spaces available or you will be waiting or worse yet stuck at a normal table. I'm a sucker for a giant flaming scorpion drink, ftw!

Love coming to Kobe's, I always make reservations either online at their website or through their phone number so the wait is never bad. I used to have an affinity for Arigato's which is just about across the street in their new location, but I have become more fond of this Kobe's location. The service is always great, the chef's put on a great show and they put their own individual flair onto the signature hibachi moves that makes the entertainment different every time. The wait staff is very attentive and I have never sat with an empty drink. The food is plentiful and tasty, and how the chef can keep all the orders straight even with their notes is beyond me. The only thing that I have noticed food wise is the rice can sometimes come out a little overdone/crunchy, but that has only happened once or twice in the numerous times I have been. All in all 5 stars for being one place in town that my girlfriend, daughter and I would love to go to even if it would be the second time in a week. Also go online and sign up for their rewards card.

I was really excited to he here. The host told us was told It was gonna be about 10 to 15 minutes for me and a friend tone seated. 30 min went by and still nothing, we asked the host and again we were told 10-15 min. We ended up waiting for a little over an hour before we were seated. I ordered a drink and it was super sweet I had to send it back. The food was ok not the greatest. I can honestly say I've had better. Wasn't really all that impressed with this place

Expect a bit of a wait time if you are having hibachi and don't have a reservation. The staff and chefs are friendly and entertaining, but the food is run of the mill hibachi. They are definitely generous with portions so a good bet if you are hungry.

I have been here multiple times for Teppayaki or Hibachi. The staff was rude all three times. The cooks have been great all three times. Make sure you get there early for your reservation and have every single person with you or they will punish you and make you wait another 30 minutes and pretend like you aren't there, even when you go up and tell them that everyone is there. The plus is that they give you a lot of food. It is expensive but the usual price for this type of food. You will be more than full. The white sauce is the best part. I just wish their customer service made you feel like you were worth their time.

Only place in the Tampa Bay Area where I could find a decent Scorpion Bowl...the food was excellent too. Only complaint was the extra long wait, but it was worth it!

We go here quite a bit . It is always busy but always has had good service. they really don't skimp on the hibachi food! prices are a little bit steep however they have good specials quite often like after 9 or birthday anniversary ect.

I can't believe I've never reviewed this restaurant, as I've probably dined here 20 times. Kobe is a Japanese steakhouse specializing in teppanyaki/hibachi style cooking. There are many different types of meats/seafoods that you can order or you can just stick with vegetarian. All dinner entrees are served with soup, salad, rice, noodles and veggies. They also come with yummy yummy sauce and goody goody sauce. My favorites are the shrimp, chicken and steak. A lot of your meal depends on your Chef and we've been fortunate to have friendly chefs that are funny, too. The kids love the "show" and the chefs ham it up. Sit back, relax and enjoy... You will leave stuffed.

We walked in around 7PM and were told there was a 15 minute wait, they gave us a buzzer and we waited at the bar. 30 minutes later we were seated. Off to a bad start. So we sit down and a woman brings out our soups and salad. We finish and 10 minutes go by. She comes by and reassures us that the cook is coming and he is the best. 8:20 and the cook finally comes, he is friendly but continues to ask for the chicken and steak from other restaurant workers who seem to be ignoring him. So he cooks the vegetables, does the standard tricks and joke, then cooks the rice and noodles. He then does a few more tricks and I notice he asks someone again to bring steak and chicken. At this point most everyone is finished with their vegetables/rices/noodles and somebody finally brings out chef the meat. He cooks it and now the rest of the food is cold or finished. Then getting the check took another 15 minutes after asking a few different people I would never go back, the chef was great, but no one did their job but him. Everyone else was walking around doing useless water refills while he was asking for cooking supplies. They were extremely short staffed and should compensate for that. Worst hibachi experience I've had

Don't know what's going on at Kobe, but as one of our favorite local Japanese tepanakki steakhouses , it was really off tonight. Not sure if it's a change of management, which the manager Newton denied. Must say he was most pleasant and receptive to my comments. First, I feel bad for the servers, because now in addition to everything else they do, they must carry a cauldron of hot soup to the table and serve everyone from it, which is basically too small and you receive 1/2 a cup. Where's the rest? My son loves coming here for the expected kind of hokey antics by the chefs that can be fun when you have a good one, but unfortunately ours was a dud, with no personality and barely interacted or did the predictable. To make matters worse, he could not cook. Steaks are cooking fast and he's taking the temperature orders so that the medium rare don't stand a chance. The chicken too were dried out and overlooked. And a simple request that he repeated a couple of times of no egg on the fried rice, he also messed up. It just seemed off and lackluster at the other tables as well:(

My football-watching gang decided to go out for dinner to celebrate the Buccaneers thrilling victory over the Steelers this past week, and we were able to score a reservation at Kobe Japanese Steakhouse along Dale Mabry in Carrollwood. The folks at the restaurant must have sensed that we were going to be a wild & crazy group as they put us in one of the back dining rooms and assigned a top-notch showman / chef to keep us entertained. For those who've not been to Kobe before, this is a Teppanyaki or Hibachi cooking restaurant. You are seated on three sides of an open flat-top grill, and you interact with the chef as they prepare succulent steak, chicken, and seafood dishes according to the ancient Hibachi style of food preparation. Each chef brings their own sense of humor and spontaneity to the table, and all entrees are prepared in a display of flashing knives and exotic aromas. Most of us ordered a Japanese beer to start while we perused the menu. Each Teppanyaki entrée came with Japanese clear onion soup, crisp green salad with miso dressing, freshly-grilled oriental vegetables, grilled noodles, and fried rice. Several of us ordered sushi rolls and Gyoza dumplings as appetizers, and those were passed around and quickly devoured. For our main course, we had our choice of any of the following, or combinations of the following: Sirloin steak, Filet Mignon, center-cut NY Strip steak, chicken breasts, shrimp, Maine lobster, sea scallops, wild salmon, or wagyu beef. I opted for the Surf n' Turf special of a Filet and shrimp. First up were the soups and salads while we waited for the grill to reach optimal temperature and our chef to arrive. After cleaning and oiling the grill, our chef started by mixing up individual containers of the two different sauces which were set down in front of each of us -- a seasoned mustard mayo sauce for seafood and veggies, and a brown sauce for meats. And then the fun started.... the chef was busy grilling up the veggies and the rice while dazzling us with the clanging of his spatula, rapping of the pepper mill, and amazing knife skills. We've all heard the jokes before, but this guy was quite good, and we thoroughly enjoyed playing along as he spun the egg on the grill before flipping it up and balancing it on his spatula. A couple of quick Hai, Hai, Hai's and the egg was cracked into the pile of rice, and mixed up. He did the amazing Veg-o-Matic trick with his knife and diced the veggies before our eyes. Next came the volcano made of onion slices (Ooooooo, Ahhhhhhh!), before the chef started flipping pieces of cooked vegetables into our waiting mouths. Yes, I felt like a damned sea lion at Point Loma, CA waiting for my treat, but we were all laughing hysterically by this point. The chef sliced up all of the different proteins and started portioning everything out as he continued his masterful display of shifting things around on the grill while cracking jokes. Even though we've seen the trick hundreds of times before, we all cheered as he sliced the tail off the shrimp and flipped it up into his tall chef's hat. Hai! The meal wasn't cheap, but it was a heck of a lot of fun, and the food was delicious. The entertainment value of our meal was priceless, and we gave our chef a standing ovation at the conclusion of his cooking repertoire. Kobe is a great place for the entire family, and kids are very easily entertained by the whole thing. We saw another table celebrating a birthday for one of the young girls in their group. She was beaming from ear-to-ear as they dressed her in a chef's hat and served her a birthday dessert accompanied by singing and banging on the ceremonial gong.

The food here was good, my biggest issue was the seating. They had a booth bench at one of the tables that was entirely too low which made eating awkward. It seems like they try to pack way too many people around each table and it results in a lack of elbow room. That aside, the noodles and fried rice were good, as well as the chicken and steak.

Came in here with a bunch of coworkers for a work trip. We had a group of 8 and due to the fact that we didn't have reservations we waited quite a bit. Told one thing, but ended up waiting longer then the given time. Anyway, once we were seated, the waitress took our orders. She was great, very attentive, polite, and willing to separate our checks when requested. Anyway, our chef was a little on the shy/quiet side, but he did a good job cooking. The food was pretty good. I ordered the shrimp and chicken and that was good. There was just so much food...noodles, rice, vegetables, mushrooms, soup, and salad...just a lot, but I had a great time. Would definitely come again if I returned to Tampa.

I do not recommend eating here unless you're going for the hibachi experience. Service has been poorer than poor the last two times I dined here for a simple appetizer and sushi roll. Honestly, I don't think I'll eat here again regardless. There's a new hibachi style restaurant on Anderson I hear is really good, so I think I'll take my business there instead. Whoever manages this location you're doing a crappy job because your staff sucks and that is a direct reflection of poor management and leadership.

This is a great place for a birthday. Nice dinner with entertainment. The cooks try to make you laugh, putting on a show while they cook the food. The rice was buttery and seasoned heavenly. If you are minding your calories, this place is not for you. The food is cooked to perfection, and quite generous with the portions. The service was friendly and professional.

If the wait wasn't so long I would have given this location 5 stars. Once we arrived our party of 3 was told that the wait would be 15 minutes. 35 minutes later we were seated. Chef was a flirt which is always appreciated ;-) Steaks were cooked to desired doneness (mine was not overcooked at all and I appreciated that) and he was accommodated a seafood allergy by cooking seafood last and not with all the other food. I kind of wish the desserts were served at room temp...cupcakes were still thawing when we got them. The vanilla cupcake was just beyond average....blah. No substitutions allowed not even with up-charge which meant I just wasted that cold tasteless cupcake. Also since we had two birthdays at the table so everyone got cupcakes. Prepare for a long night of dinner, between the wait and the actually dinner it took FOREVER to sit down. Block off at least 3.5 hours of your night.

This review is slightly biased, as my husband and I are regular patrons of the Brandon location. On this visit, we had made reservations for 9:30pm, sat at 10pm. Our drinks were ordered and delivered promptly, as well as the soup and salad; however after that the service slowed to a crawl. Thirty minutes have gone by and the chef has yet to greet our table. A table who was here after us- by a substantial amount of time- was served first. Luckily, once the chef approached the table, he was very personable and put on a great show. I still enjoy Brandon location's proportion of butter/seasoning, but this location is still adequate.

Love their food and yum yum sauce. My husband and I go here for date night every so often so it's come to my surprise the small and limited menu now. What once was a multi-page menu is now a simle back and front with two appetizers - wings being one. Not so authentic. When inquiring about dessert, we heard that they would soon be triming down there as well. This is why I made sure to get my fill in with the green tea tiramisu. Could have been a sales ploy. If so, it worked! The dinner entrees were definitely the skeleton crew, but had the essentials. We had our typical steak and shrimp combo and when we received it, it was noticeably a smaller portion. We were already taken aback when we didn't get noodles AND rice with the entree, something that was previously provided. Now I don't want to sound like a diva but the changes were all pretty drastic. Why four stars then? The food is REALLY good. Our expecations from 3 months ago though - totally different. I hope their future will not turn out like the Arigato's across the street and in St. Pete.

6 months ago, I came here with my sister and we had a negative experience (also listed on yelp). Decided to come back with my friend this past week. There is no way I would have ANOTHER negative experience... but I did. I will try to make this as short as possible. Ordered a drink, an entrée which came with my favorite soup and salad combo, and a sushi roll. We got our drinks, then our soup, then our salad... great. So I'm waiting this whole time for my roll when the waitress comes out and tells me that she is out of "Philly Rolls", which I then said, "you mean you are out of salmon?", "yes" she said. I said, OK, well, this is an inconvenience since I really only eat salmon... I asked her if I got a Spicy Tuna, could I get it discounted since you waited about 25 minutes to tell me? She assured me that it would be no problem at all. She then goes to speak to her manager and another co-worker, in my view, so I have them talking and looking at me...completely unprofessional... She comes back and says, never mind, we can't do that. I told her I didn't want it. This was not about the money. It was an $8 roll, I can handle that. It was the principle. The fact that THEY did not communicate upon ordering that they were out of something, NOR offer compensation for inconveniencing their customer was just completely ridiculous. I will no longer dine here. Their service sucks. I love Japanese\hibachi and will now take my business elsewhere...

I love this teppanyaki restaurant. It is wonderful for special occasions, and pleasing to a fire lover such as myself. I always get a combo meal . I love the steak and scallops, the Husband gets chicken and shrimp, thereby covering all of the meats in the land and the sea. The combo comes with a plethora of veggies, noodles, and rice. The staff is always entertaining and pleasant. My only peeve here: sometimes I feel a bit rushed. If you have any room at all left, I can recommend the Green Tea Tiramisu.

Much better than last time. I have been here so many times I know some of the cooks by name lol. This past time was impressive. My girlfriend, her daughter and I went to take advantage of my birthday $30 off coupon on a Sunday night so it wasn't very busy. We had reservations so were seated within 5 minutes. This time around our server was Khoi. He was awesome! Very animated and hilarious! I ordered the scallops and he bragged about how great his scallops were and he definitely proved himself. The scallops were definitely the best I have ever had them there. They were cooked perfectly and flavored with lemon, soy sauce, and whatever else he put in it lol. To be honest everything tasted better then usual. The rice was perfectly cooked. Filet a perfect medium. My girlfriend ordered a well done filet because she is pregnant and that was even great! Go and ask for Khoi!

I wasn't too fond of the idea of coming to Kobe because I'm not a fan of their food. I've had better hibachi at other places. However, it's what my family wanted, so we went. I arrive before my slow driving dad, and put my name in for a party of 9. I ask for the wait time, and the hostess tells me that the wait time doesn't start until the whole party is here, but when it does start, it's 15-20minutes. Well, THAT sounds illogical to me. What difference does it make if my whole party is here or not in order for us to just wait some more? I understand not seating us, but to just begin the wait? Ridiculous. i even said that they were just looking for parking, but nope. In their defense, our wait time, once it did start, was not as long as she had said. We were seated, and the rest of our visit got better. Our server was very friendly and cheery. I don't like the noodles they serve. It seems unnecessary to have both noodles and rice. I see it as two carbs in hopes to fill you up more, so we can skimp on the expensive stuff. The rice doesn't even taste good. I ordered steak and shrimp. Both were typical-tasting as any other hibachi experience. Steak is served with potatoes, which I also think is weird because that's an American thing, not a Japanese thing. Tip if you do come here: ask for double yum yum sauce and dip everything in it to taste better.

So after reading a few reviews, I was nervous to schedule an anniversary dinner here...But it was spectacular!! Great food...chef was entertaining and accommodating. Decent value too. After our fifth visit, this qualifies for my five star since we go out of our way for it.

This is a great place to go to get some entertainment with a meal. It's not cheap by any means, but I guess that's what you get when you try to combine food with fun. Every occasion I have been to this restaurant has been for a Birthday and who could resist, considering the lucky person eats free with a Birthday coupon. The service during my most recent visit was spot on, but it was likely because it was a weeknight and not a slammed weekend night. The times I have been on the weekends it has been quite crowded with a wait despite having reservations. The food is typical hibachi and I think it all depends on the entertainment factor of the chef you get as to how much you enjoy the meal.

I am allergic to wheat and dairy, so eating out is a challenge. I told the staff I was allergic to dairy and wheat. They did a great job accommodating by cooking my food in the back kitchen and bringing it while everyone else was getting theirs made in front of them. They didn't use butter and used only gluten-free soy sauce. Great! The chef at the table offered me yum yum sauce. I said that I was allergic to dairy, but eggs are ok (because eggs are not dairy, contrary to popular belief. They come from a completely different animal. Anyway. . ). He said the sauce would be okay. He failed to understand that BUTTER IS DAIRY and I didn't realize until the end of the meal when I felt sick that he was wrong. I had to ask 4 different people if the sauce had butter before getting confirmation that I'd been exposed to something my body can't tolerate. All that work to avoid butter and wheat in the kitchen only to have it served directly to me by a table chef who wasn't educated about allergens. If you're going to serve food, at any restaurant anywhere, Please know what allergens are in the food you are serving.

Went there for my sister's birthday and we waited about 5-10 minutes to be sat, but we actually didn't get sat till about 30 minutes later, which is understandable since hibachi places do get really busy. After we got sat the waiter got us drink quickly, then took our order soon after. The food was great, and the show was really entertaining. Overall my sister had a good birthday and I had a great time as well.

Had a reservation at 8pm and its 9:16 and no seats. People here for 2 hours too! Not right since they keep telling you every 15-20 min thats its another 20 min. Keeping you hostage here. Been here before and never this bad. This is just not right! I spoke to the manager about 30 minutes ago. She just offered us drinks after we had drinks and are buzzed and starving. We could have gone to Renzo's or Grill Smith already. Not a good night.

WAYGU BEEF! IF IT IS ACTUALLY WAYGU THEN WHERE IS THE MARBLE IN THE MEAT?? HEADS UP IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR QUALITY FOOD THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO. This is the CHUCKY CHEESE of Hibachi Grills. Cafeteria style sushi. Unimpressive to say the least. Also the sashimi was cut earlier in the day and plated so that when it was brought to the table the part of the fish that was exposed to the refrigerated air became dry and suspicious smelling. Basically I wasted 20+$ on a plate I can't eat safely. IF YOU LIKE THIS PLACE ITS BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT GOOD JAPANESE FOOD. Lastly my boyfriend had the steak and the "chef" didn't season anything. So everything he had was bland. These guys who do the cooking are cheesy as hell with their mindless chatter and corny jokes. Like I said the Chucky Cheese of Hibachi.

Love this place. Good food and fun chefs for the most part. I've been here several times and only once have I had a less than great experience. And that related to the chef we had, not the food.

We got there early and was sat quickly. The server came over to the table and was having issues with the pilot light on the table. He asked one of the chefs to help him. The chef was trying to tell us what was wrong, but we didn't quiet understand him. They thought that they had fixed the problem. Night was going better until our chef started to cook on the table, and he wasn't happy with the heat the table was putting out. So he had someone again try to help him, while there was food cooking on the table. he said for someone to help him out and handed one of the young men at the table, his forks and asked him to keep moving the vegetables. Till he could get the pilot lit again. After all was fixed, the chef did a great job cooking! Food was AWESOME!

Well when we arrived we ordered a drink witch the waiter forgot for starters. We ordered the chicken fingers for a appetizer witch was suppose to come with three dipping sauces that never came out with our appetizer. Then we finished eating an asked if he could split the bill into two separate checks witch he said that he could do, when we received the check it was al together I asked again and he said that he could do it after we paid witch made no sense. The food was ok not off the top I would recommend that you choose a different steakhouse from this one prices are to high for the amount of food you get and you will walk way still hungry.

What a rip off. We got roped into going to this place. Very heavy on the rice and light on the meats. The "show" is not worth the extra dough. I'll never go back. Way too expensive to justify buying a boatload of rice and not much else.

Kobes is kid friendly and the lunch prices are a great deal. they cook the meal hibachi style. The sushi is pretty good and the drink specials are worth it. Overall good tasting food, good prices and birthday rewards.

Not my first choice for sushi but the Teppanyaki dinners are great and about what you'd expect to pay compared to other options. The service staff are typically very helpful and often suggest cheaper ways to get the same thing I was thinking about ordering; i.e. last night I wanted the sirloin, shrimp & lobster dinner, but wanted to add scallops. The server told me a way to order all four differently that got me the same thing for a few dollars less. He didn't have to, but did, and that's what will make me a loyal customer. I prefer to have some drinks so I typically go after 9pm when some drink specials kick in each night. If you're a fan of the Beni Hana chain of restaurants, and like their white sauce that comes with dinner, I don't think you'll like the Kobe version as much. The Kobe version seems to have a much higher concentration of mayonnaise and less horseradish, so I don't like it as much. The Kobe ginger sauce is great. They have a lot of tables so most of the time when I've gone on the spur of the moment, the wait has been nearly the same as if I'd made a reservation.

When in tampa, we love this place. However on this occasion we made the fatal mistake to request a booth instead of a group table. Bad mistake. Waitress was spot on however the portions were significantly smaller, and the quality of the food was less as well. According to the waitress the rice is "pre cooked" for our section. Was horrible. Nothing like when they serve it to you face to face. First time I ever left a Japanese restaurant hungry. Don't get me wrong, I love this place! A+++ just don't ask for a booth!

  • Nishant G.

While this restaurant is the standard for chain-based hibachi, and while the service was great and the decor was excellent, I just didn't find the food to be that particularly good. This isn't this specific location's fault, as I'm sure all Kobe's get their food from the same supplier, but it just didn't taste fresh. I also noticed the yellow broccoli before he cooked it, indicating that it wasn't fresh. Couple this with the fact that that the meal was high in salt, and the sushi was not amazing either, and I begin to think that $20 is just a little too expensive for this quality. My advice: find a local, higher rated hibachi spot. I wouldn't come back here, or a Kobe's again. I can find better for the same price.

I have been to Kobe several times through out the 8 years that I have lived in the Tampa Bay area. I have also been to many other Japanese restaurants in the area. Kobe is the best one, in my opinion. They are consistent, and I appreciate that. The food is delicious. I am a big fan of the steak and I love to douse all of my food in Yummy Sauce! The portions are hearty for the price and I always leave with left overs. Kobe is a great spot to celebrate a birthday, as they do it up right. I'm sure I will be back to Kobe soon, and will expect the same great experience I have always had.

Made reservations here for my daughters 9th birthday. Management was incredibly accommodating despite members of our party of 9 arriving over 45 mins late. Our food was delicious and our chef, Chris (his real name) was outstanding. I was expecting good food in an environment that would easily accommodate a large party, what we got was awesome food and a comedy show that had my daughter thoroughly enjoying her birthday evening.

Had a very nice family birthday dinner there. Good menu, and reasonably priced, esp. considering how labor intensive their service is....door hostess, table host, table chef and several server/busboys. Like other Japanese steakhouses, your meal is cooked on a hot grill in front of you, seated with up to 11 other diners with combined parties. The chef is entertaining, showing off knife and spatula dexterity and mostly scripted patter. Amazingly he kept everyone busy eating once the soup was served and he started grilling mixed veggies, then sauced noodles, then fried rice, and finally entrees of beef, chicken or shrimp, keeping everyone's order straight. We had a youngster with us and she was enchanted with the performance and got personal attention from the good-natured chef, Jeff. Very attentive servers refilling drinks and clearing china. Quality and flavors were fine, but not top steak house level. The side sauces were fine, but essentially seasoned mayo ("magic sauce") and a more savory darker sauce. Still it is a fun time occasionally.

After being treated absolutely horribly by Arigato across the street, we left and crossed over to Kobe. The wait staff was friendly and phenomenal, the food was great, and the chef was a heck of a showman. Do yourself a favor, and don't bother even walking in the door of Arigato...unless you like snotty and rude hostesses. Go to Kobe and enjoy a great meal by people who are happy to have your business. ARIGATO SUCKS!!

I would rate my experience lower if I could! The worst experience I have had at ANY restaurant. When we first arrived we were so excited the hostess was very nice but thats the extent of positive feedback! The restaurant was so smokey you could not breathe. We had to ask the waitress to turn on the so called exhaust above the table (which gave no relief). The waitress took 20 mins to acknowledge the table. She brought only half the table their drinks, then the remaining had to wait 15 mins longer. Once we all finished our salads, it took 45 mins for the cook to come to the table. We had to ask the waitress (when we were able to find her) what was going on. Once the cook came the smoke was even worse. I could not eat my food because I simply could not breathe. Let's not forget 2 people from the table had to hunt down another waitress for drink refills. Once the cook finished the little girl sitting beside me jumped up because the table was leaking water or grease all over her lap. She had to run to the bathroom to clean herself. I asked for the manager who replied that no one was supposed to be seated there because they were aware of the leak.......really?!?!?! WTH.......the manager gave everyone a 15% discount because of the wait but really they should have paid us to even eat there. Word of advice fix the exhaust systems, train your staff, fix the leaky table, and deep clean the dirty tables......... Just saying over 3 hours in this place was hell!!!

Just an average, somewhat overpriced restaurant with a gimmick. The 2 sushi rolls we had off of the special roll menu were decent, but WAY overpriced. Definitely not worth $13 each. These rolls would have been maybe $9 anywhere else. The teriyaki salmon was good. The veggies were fresh and it was priced fair. The tepanyaki tables are fun, but that is a gimmick. The service was hit and miss. The waitress was I believe, Phillapino and didn't understand most of what we said... LOL. Ordered a Bud Light,,,, got Michelob Ultra... Asked if there was draft beer, she said yes, then brought me a bottle of Kirin and explained to me that it was draft beer in a bottle... LMAO.... It's overpriced. Fun for a group.

Really, really great flavors; everything is seasoned perfectly. I had the combination chicken and filet mignon; the steak was outrageously tender. Both dipping sauces were quite tasty. Tremendous value for the money: I think my combo was something like $28, and for that, I got miso soup, salad, vegetables, noodles, fried rice, and my choice of meats. Ours was a rather challenging party for the chef, as I'm afraid we had quite a few special requests concerning how our meals were prepared, but the chef was patient and accommodating, and cooked everything to everyone's liking. Quite possibly the best Japanese hibachi meal I've ever had.

What impressed me was the fact that they have fish sauce if you ask for it!! It seems to be the place to take your family for a birthday. I am not a hibachi connoisseur by any means but enjoyed my food here as well as the drink specials. If you want a fun show to go with your food as well as a table area full of strangers come to this place. I am one to seek out more authentic food, however enjoyed my time here.

Kobe is in north Tampa n Dale Mabry Highway. Japanese hibachi style steakhouse with the large griddle in the middle. the wait staff are friendly. And the chef/entertainers seem to be consistently good. With most meals you receive a broth based onion mushroom soup and salad with a peanut type dressing. Unless you are a big eater, order the smaller size of any steak orders because there is so much other food you will end up with too much left over. Seafood fans may want to order the regular size you like because it always seems seafood portions are smaller everywhere. The dinners come with hibachi grilled noodles and fresh vegetables. There is also veggie fried rice in addition to your main meat entree. All of the food is prepared table side by the chef in an entertaining grilling show. The is a good place for a birthday or special event because it is just fun! There are 10 to a table so either bring 10 or expect to be seated with other parties. This can a lot of fun or a real detractor depending on who is joining you. Most of the time it is just neutral. Early diners may be able to occasionally avoid a full table. If you'd like the same fare but at a lower price check on the happy hour/early bird time frame - the menu prices are a little less and it is still a great time!

Kobe steadily has gotten worse. Steak is less tasty. You get less food overall compared to before. Also went for my birthday and they said no instant same day birthday deal. I walked out and went to Arigato across the street.

I never had a bad experience until today ! Been dining here consistently for 3.5yrs I didn't like the fact on how they squeeze 10 people to a table, I felt very uncomfortable & self conscious about my size to the point that I didn't order a meal NO drinks & watched my friends eat. Next time If I go with a group I will tell them not to do this or we will go elsewhere to eat.

This is our favorite Japanese steak house. The show is the same all of the places we have been. What makes this place stand out is the sauces for the food. We love the dipping sauces, My favorite is the brown one the rest of my family likes the yum yum sauce. They make great rolls and if you have been going there along time like we have they will make the ones that are no longer on the menu. The best the the Tokyo Rock n roll roll.

Kobe is SO good! I went here last weekend with my family for my sisters birthday. =) We are a big family of 10 so we made a reservation for Friday night at 8:30. We waited for about 15 minutes but that's no big deal compared to if we went to another restaurant for a party our size. (Nowhere in Tampa takes reservations!! Grrr) So we loved how Kobe was a perfect place for a group dinner. Our food was DELICIOUS and our chef was very nice. Everything was so good, I wished I had some now! lol My sisters bought the souvenir cat cups which were really cute and we brought our own birthday cake and they were nice to hold it in the back while we enjoyed dinner. Some of my family haven't ever been to Kobe and they loved everything from the food to the show. We all ordered combos such as Shrimp and Scallops, Steak and Chicken, etc. and that was about $26 per person. It may sound like a lot but you get so much and the food is soooo good! My husband and I have been to the other restaurants in Tampa like this such as Wasabi in New Tampa as well as Yomato (sp?) at Wiregrass and although those places are good Kobe's is the BEST! You get sooo much food for the price. I love Kobe and my family loved it too!

Let's face it. Tebanyaki is what you see is what you get (Literally, the cooking show is always entertaining). That being said, Kobe on Dale Mabry is super consistent and always a great birthday treat. .. Left very full!

I like Japanese steakhouses. After Brazilian steakhouses they are my favorite. I enjoy the show, and I enjoy eating yummy food right off the grill. Kobe, however, is about middle of the road when it comes to the Japanese steakhouses I've been to. The sushi was not all that good. I know this is a steakhouse, but if you are going to advertise sushi, you should make the effort. Also their tempura appetizers were subpar. The breading was weird and their deep fryer needs some serious work. The tables were OK, as long as they are not too crowded. They don't seem to handle crowds well. The fact that it gets crowded says they must be doing something right, but I've had better.

This is your typical run of the mill, I'm going to cook your food right here at the table and make corny jokes while I'm chopping meat. I came (as I do once a year) for my best friend's birthday. This is her favorite restaurant and the only time I come to these places. The food is pretty expensive for your average stir-fry. I guess you are paying for the experience?! Tonight the food did not disappoint, but with ordering a glass of wine, my bill was around $30. A little bit more than I'd like to pay for an average dinner.

My wife and I have a specific location we go to in VA. Whenever we "cheat" on them, we are always disappointed. However, on our recent trip to Tampa, our host said this place was good from what she heard. After looking at the reviews from a few spots in the area, we decided to give it a try for my wife's birthday. One thing I will say is that this place is expensive! So is our spot in VA. However, we felt we got our monies worth here. We waited about 10min or so and we were seated (it was a Thursday night). Our waiter was Lou. From the time we sat down to the time we paid, he kept us laughing. I forgot our chef's name but he was awesome as well. The food was great! I didn't expect the noodles which was a plus. I also ordered Supreme California Rolls and my friend ordered something else. Both were up to par with my standards. For the main meal, the steak, chicken and shrimp was cooked perfect! The yum yum sauce I'm used to isn't as watery but it was still good. I did order 2 Sake Bombs and when asked if I ever done one, I said I sure have back home in VA. Lou said we haven't done one FL style..lol. Lou then got everyone together to chant along (2 tables) as we did the Sake bomb. We made a mess but Lou was there with replacement napkins. He also got everyone at the table to sing happy birthday to my wife which was cool. Then again the people at our table were cool to begin with. Overall, I loved this place. It was pricey but well worth it in my books. If you ever go, ask for Lou as your waiter. You WILL NOT be disappointed with him.

Yes they make you wait to be seated until all in your party arrive. The reason: They will sit you at a big flat grill table, maybe with others, for your teppanyaki chef to do his show. That is really why you go. It's a lot of fun. You can go to a small table and just order sushi if you want but the place is not noted for sushi. Don't look for an Japanese people there as you will not find any. The local Chain is Viet owned and conforms to the Kobe chain of restaurants. The food is good and the entertainment is the best part if you get a good chef like Micro Wayne from Micronesia.

One even recognized me after 3 months!

Kobe Japanese Steak House is a great place to have a free birthday meal! The catch is, it's a $15 limit and you can't eat alone. But oh well, it's almost free and they serve good Japanese steak house food. They are not as tasty as Arigato's, but they sure give large portions of rice and noodles with their dishes. Their dishes are great when dipped in yummy yummy and goody goody sauce. I can never remember which is which, but it's good. I've seen many friends have large birthday parties there and they always get sung by the staff and awarded a nice paper imitation chef's hat and a cute cupcake. I personally never had a party there because I'm a little too embarrassed to have a parade singing to me in public. But it looks fun as an onlooker. I have also tried their sushi and sashimi which are pretty good, but nothing really to review about since their sushi bar is fairly small and limited. Overall, I have always had a pleasant experience and the prices are average compared to other Japanese steak houses. They also have a rewards card where you can get rewards from points for every dollar you spend, and they send you coupons in the mail for your birthday and anniversaries. It's definitely a great place in groups.

I made a reservation for a large group several weeks in advance. I was surprised the night before to actually get a phone call from a Kobe staff member to confirm the # of RSVP's.I was very impressed as to how they handled a large group. They did not try to overcrowd our tables & did not seat other guests not associated with the group at the table. The service was prompt & efficient. Everyone from the manager to the front desk was very welcoming and friendly. The food was cooked to order & the portions generous even for early bird. & the show was great.Actually, I was dreading the event as I had eaten directly across the street at Arigato a week prior & found the food & staff sub par. In a neighborhood with 2 choices of similar venue across the street from each other my choice will remain Kobe.

Since the local sushi place we wanted to visit was closed, we wound up giving Kobe a shot. The three stars are blended total for the overall experience, not the sushi itself. Kobe probably deserves a bit more of a chance, but since our server never brought my gyoza dumplings, I couldn't try them and rate them. And because she didn't really seem to care when I mentioned it, what was already average service took a dive. Most of what I had was tasty. Nicely salted edamame (4 stars) and the Mexican roll had plenty of flavor (4.5). The unagi was fine (3) but the Hawaiian roll (3) was lacking a punch: the spicy tuna really wasn't spicy, and the avocado didn't rise to the occasion. That gives us a weighted average of 3.5, because the edamame ranks lower, and from there, the indifferent service and missing dish got a 1, so we split the difference and end up at a high 2. Would we go back for the teppanyaki? Possibly. Teppanyaki is better suited to chains than sushi -- and it's hard to get bad service when you're sitting right in front of the chef. As for the sushi, we'll time our next trip to Kaisen better when we're in that part of town.

This place is pretty much like the standard japanese steakhouses. You get the grill in the center, everyone sits around it and the food is cook or you right there. I ordered one of the nigiri sushi appetizers and it was good, it was the basic tuna, and salmon pieces. The piece of the fish was a little thick, which is fine with me. The performance by the cook is the standard show you get everywhere else from the egg flipping to the onion volcano. The steak was very tender though. After eating at quite a few places like this I wasn't expecting the steak to be that tender. The service is the standard, not bad and nothing to make it above average. Most of the time you're being serve by the cook, waitress pretty much just fill your drinks and at beginning take order and give you salad.

This restaurant tries very hard to be a Benihana or an Arigato, but it falls short in both food quality, time management, and so many other fields. Service here is good, but you overpay what you get from the waiters who have far too many tables to attend to. The customers mainly go there for the show, but you also have the option of sitting at tables when it is too packed which is ridiculous since it costs you the same amount of money. I had some sushi here too and it was not that great compared to other places I have been to before and after this place. One thing I found particularly amusing was the fact that they had a basic Japanese chart and all the phrases were wrong.

Pete.

Expect a bit of a wait time if you are having hibachi and don't have a reservation. The staff and chefs are friendly and entertaining, but the food is run of the mill hibachi. They are definitely generous with portions so a good bet if you are hungry.

    (3)
  • Sarah K.

This is my favorite Japanese Steakhouse. I leave completely satisfied everytime I go here. The food is delicious, the show is fun and entertaining, the service is quick (soups, drinks, etc), and the chefs who cook the meal are always very nice, funny, and personable.

Tried Kobe for some Sushi and was very disappointed. Just did not wow which the money spent should have warranted. Will have to try again one day just to confirm.

Went here while on vacation in the Tampa area with my boyfriend. We are a big fan of Japanese Steakhouses and this one was no exception. The food was fresh and tasty and the service was fun. The noodle course was new to us and we both loved that. Don't live in the area but would definitely go back if we did.

It's the little things that disappointed me. They did not have brown rice for the sushi menu as noted on the menu. I asked for extra veggies and did not get them. Hibachi grilling was good in a standard way.

  • Kimberly N.
