Housewife Bakery is an institution in Tampa since it's inception in 1959. It is a small, nondescript stand alone building on the Southeast cornor at the intersection of Sligh and Armenia Ave. Ingress & egress can be quite a feat, as this bakery is quite busy, has limited parking & is right at a busy intersection. Please use caution entering and exiting this store. Housewife Bakery is an independent, fail owned and operated store. Once you enter this is so evident by their pride in workmanship & products. They do a large amount of catering of delicious sandwiches, pastries, and assorted baked goods. Upon entering the store your senses are delightfully as sultry with all of the wonderful and varying smells that hit you so very nicely in a head on fashion. Now the decisions get even more difficult. You may have stopped in for bread or cupcakes, but once you see & smell the bountiful array of products, all sense of reasoning start to leave your head and you start operating purely on your sensory desires. They make many homemade sandwiches on a variety of breads and buns. Believe it or not, one of my favorites is their egg salad asndwich. It is simple, but complex at the same time and has just the perfect blend of seasoning and light mayo to make it perfect. Don't worry, their selection is large and all quality ingredients, you won't be dissatisfied. The Bakery carries almost anything you can imagine, with a heavy emphasis on Spanish specialty. Their flan is exceptionally creamy, rich & decadent. Cookies, pizza, cakes, ...let you imagination run wild, or better yet, get over there and try it for yourself. After all these years in business, you know they have to be doing most everything right, which is also evident by their loyal fan follwing. Birthday cakes ordered here are true works of art, both visually & in taste. Let them make your life a little easier, you won't regret the sweet rewards. What's a girl to do? Love independent stores that continue top quality for over 50 years.

Small little bakery that according to their webpage has been family owned and operated since 1959. Getting in and out of their parking lot can be tricky since it's at a busy intersection, but it is totally worth a visit. First, they have excellent baked goods, pastries, cakes, and treats. I consider myself a dessert connoisseur, and I have loved every cake I have ever bought from there. Cookies are fresh, never stale. The guava and cheese bread is outstanding. Bear claw was flaky and delicious. Their mixed Italian cookies have been a big hit whenever I bring them to a party. They always have seasonal treats too - pumpkin cookies in fall, homentashin for Purim, Rudolph cookies for Christmas, etc. They also have a nice selection of ready-made basic sandwiches like egg salad, tuna salad, turkey, and Cubans, etc. - that you can grab and go, or they will open it up and add lettuce/tomato mustard/mayonnaise to it, or press it, for you. They do a big business in catering; they offer trays of sandwiches, vegetables, deli salads, and other options that will fit your every need, for very reasonable prices. They even offer a Cuban platter shaped as an alligator, for lovers of a certain Florida team. Insider tip - they close early on Sundays, and are closed Mondays, so they offer all in-stock pastries the last hour on Sundays for HALF OFF. I haven't managed to take advantage of it yet, but oh yes, I will!

LOVE LOVE this bakery! They have the best brownies and carrot cake. Theyhave a large variety of sweets. The pizza and stuffed potatoes are also yummy...sandwiches are very reasonably priced for how big they are! You will not be disappointed! The outside doesn't look great...but don't judge on that!

Great papas rellenas (stuffed potatoes), pepper sticks (like an italian tarralli in a different shape) are a must.

I've been coming here for years. I order the 30 piece breakfast tray and take it into work. I love this place and so does everyone at work! Everything is absolutely delicious.

Have only visited this West Tampa tradition once for some rolls & pastries. But admired their display of cookies, brownies, cakes and mostly sweets appealing to the sweet-tooth of most neighbors. Asked for fresh whole wheat bread and got a snicker and apology that there is not much interest in whole wheat around here (you alien freak!!!) Also check their website for catering packages and sandwiches/meal they will prepare by advance order. If you are not diabetic, drop by and sample some lovely-looking sweets. (insulin not provided)

We received a carrot cake at work as a present. It was absolutely delicious! I'd never heard of this place before, and I'm excited to have been introduced. Scrumptious to the very last bite!

I was literally a kid in in a bake shop. I stopped in this bakery a few days ago. The outside was somewhat unassuming but inside I was impressed by the variety they offered. The place was neat and orderly and the staff was very friendly. The display was full of cookies (about 9 diff. kinds) turnovers, brownies, cream horns, cakes and many others sweets. Along with the sweets they have a deli. I did not try the sandwiches so I can not comment on those.. Maybe it was just me but I love the private owned shops. Its the attention to customer service they give I suppose. They do cater which I plan on taking advantage of one day. I tried the chocolate "party for one" cake. This petite goodie made for one (but I shared w/ hubby) was the best chocolate cake I have had in awhile. The cake was moist, semisweet and chocolaty the frosting had a great butter cream taste not overly sweet but a good balance with the cake. I loved the "party for one" cake and can't wait to try everything else. BUT don't believe me go check it out for yourself ..... I know you will be back.

So I was on the hunt for a good bakery for a bday cake. Didn't want to use any chains like Publix and couldn't find a place that wasn't super expensive...Remembered this bakery being here for Years and thought it must be good right? Absolutely ! The cake they made for my dads 50th bday was awesome and everyone got a kick out of it too. Plus it was delicious. Cake was moist and icing was a tasty buttercream. Will definitely come back and recommend

Small neighborhood bakery, family related to Alessi's if I am not mistaken. Selection not as good but prices better and generally very good quality. Despite the other reviews got an unsatisfactory carrot cake on a Friday afternoon. Almost certainly had been frozen and put back on counter, dry and stale. Had to give to the neighbor boys as no one in house would eat it (neighborhood boys eat everything, offerred or not). Still would recommend, but if you want good carrot.cake call ahead and have them make fresh.

Housewife Bake Shop is a family owned and operated bakery located at the corner of Armenia and Sligh. According to my business partner they've been in this location since dirt was new, which means a long long time. I'm not a huge dessert eater, but Bill wanted to take home "a little something" for his wife, and so we pulled in to have a look around. The smell of delicious baked goods knocks you off your feet as you walk through the front door, and it takes all of your willpower not to leap over the counter and dive face-first into the displays of pastries, cookies, cakes and so on. Wow, they really have some spectacular looking desserts! In addition, Housewife Bake Shop also serves a variety of yummy deli sandwiches and salads. A lot of their business comes from catering meals, and they have an extensive menu of party platters, hot entrees, and custom designed cakes. I'm not planning on getting married, but they do have quite the amazing wedding cake display in the shop. Bill ended up with a "little" box of yummy delights to feed a small third world country, and I maintained some composure and just ordered a sugar cookie. Nice place if you're looking for desserts along Armenia Avenue.

I'm a little aggravated now that I know what a gem this little bakery is. I used to live maybe one block from there and NEVER went once. I missed so many opportunities to gape at the bakery offerings. My mother in law would always supply us with their fruit and nut bars at Christmas and while I knew they came from there I just never made it in. Until it was my turn to pick up the fruit and nut bars and this place is so awesome. I walked in around 4:15pm (they close at 5) to see friendly faces and a stocked supply of every sweet treat you could imagine. It was pretty incredible. One case had freshly made sandwiches for $3, deviled crabs for $2, stuffed potatoes for $2 and everything sweet was between $1 to $2. They had some wedding-ish looking cakes in their window display which is a turn off for me as I never think to pick up cookies from a wedding cake shop but you should. And I will. And we can share a fruit and nut bar, NOT on Christmas like rebels. Just to note, all I have every tried from this little shop are the fruit and nut bars but I wouldn't know how someone could make something so decadent and not do everything else well too.

I will go out of my way to stop by this little mom and mom bakeshop. It is a great little old fashioned bakery. We stopped in for some bread to go with our rotisserie chicken. We came out with bread and so much more. There were cookies of all kinds, rasberry sticks, and the usual bakery items, but they also have premade sandwiches salads and deli platters! Great place

A delightful bakery amongst the many fine Latin American restaurantson Armenia (across the street from Wholly Smoke Barbecue). Friendly service and lots of great baked good to try. Haven't had their sandwiches yet, but they are also known for their "Cubans" to-go. Very reasonable prices and friendly family atmosphere.
