Great beer and ambiance.. Can't wait to do the tour next time (offered every hour most days during peak hours). This place is a temple to brews!

I went to Coppertail for a private event that was essentially a soft launch of the completed tasting room. They had food available, but as that is not a regular feature I'll throw some pics of it up, but not cover it in the review. 1st the building is impressive. It is very well done, clean, modern, and yet retains a lot of the old charm of the old rail based warehouse it is made from. I was with two of the architects who had been working on it, so we had basically a free run of the place. The effort put in to making the tasting room top notch is matched by the dedication to the brewing operations behind the scenes. Now the important stuff. .....the beer is excellent. I had their Belgian style tripple. It was on par with Golden Monkey, which is at the top of US tripple brews. I skipped the IPA, which I heard was good, but IPA is the easiest beer to brew, and they had other more intriguing options. Their porters are excellent. The barrel aged had a clear flavor from being aged in bourbon barrels without it being overwhelming or gimmicky. My personal favorite was the Baltic porter. It is one of my favorite beers, not an easy brew, and also not made very commonly in the US. Coppertail absolutely nailed it! Overall a great addition to the bay area brewing scene. The owner and brew master were very excited for us to see what they had here, and with good reason!

We have been here a couple of time but this is the first time coming here since the big tasting room opened. It was huge with 2 floors to sit down and enjoy a various selection of fine crafted brew while enjoying the view of the brewing room. They had a great selection of beer, fun and inviting atmosphere, and we had a great time playing some board/card games there. Highly recommend this place it was so much fun!

Driving East on 60 I caught this place from the corner of my eye then had to investigate. Ahhhh another fine micro brew. The atmosphere is friendly , inviting & fun. Many fine beers on the menu that each need to be tasted & many times. Every beer that we ordered did not disappoint. A food truck sits outside or you can bring your own eats to go with your suds. Dogs on leash are welcome to come inside so you can drink with your best 4 legged hairy friend. Facility tours are on the hour. If you should imbibe a little too much & decide to unload all of your sins a confession booth is at the end of the bar. Say 5 Hail Marys, a few Our Fathers & all of your sins are forgiven!

This unholy triple you guys made is the best beer thing that has ever happened to me! The free dive is also crazy delicious! I am so stoked that this sentence will probably end with a!

Although I wasn't raving at the time I was there, this place is kinda my perfect brewery. Let's break it down - Cool eclectic wall art - After we came in and got a few drinks, I said "let's just walk around and look at the stuff on the walls." Lots of old maritime-style art; think krakens and pre-war diving suits. Right up my alley, with the added benefit of being stylized just enough to make it less museum and more art. Layout - A long bar if you're a barstool resident. Tables - high and low - if you need to play a boardgame or if you're an elbow leaner. Outside for smokers, skywatchers, and people who just prefer to be outside. Couch for those too cool for all of the above. There's an upstairs too, but 1) not sure if it was open, since nobody was up there and 2) I couldn't find a way up anyway, but that might be just because I'm dumb. They were also playing pretty perfect music - downtempo/deep house/chill music for the cool not-douchey-ultralounge vibe. Tap selection - This is a big one that sometimes gets overlooked by the little places. Yeah, you've got all your goofy experimental lemon & lime saison, stone crab stout, oatmeal porters - the weird crap that all the hip cool kids are into now. But right at the top of the chalkboard is their standard 4 - a wheat, an IPA, a stout, and a trippel. The fallbacks for those visits where you don't feel like trying something new, you just want a solid beer. A few of the other local spots in the area would do well to emulate this setup. The beer itself - But those weird experiments in brewcraft? They were legit. Many places that offer unique beers often wind up tasting like Bud Light with whatever they felt like adding - during the brewing process, like they just made their normal beer and then tossed in some oranges or whatever. Coppertail seems like they really know what they're doing, though The beers with the odd things in them were just crafted well. They tasted refined, quality-controlled, not just "drawing board to sales floor" style. However, they have jenga set up outside and if you collapse your tower all the people at the outside tables go "ohhhhh party foul." Bro it's 2015. Nobody says that anymore.

What a great addition to Tampa's breweries. Just went for the first time on Saturday and will definitely be returning. They have a sweet warehouse location near Ybor/IKEA with interesting seating/decor on the inside and games to play while you drink with friends. The guys behind the bar were great and the beers are fantastic. You HAVE to try to Unholy Trippel. Amazing.

I was fortunate to catch one of the first ever tours of Coppertail last evening. Definitely a must-experience event for anyone into the craft scene and one of the more authentic tours ever. I mostly dig the Unholy Triple (Belgian) or Seasonal Relief (Baltic Porter), yet check out their constantly revolving selection. Their new DIPA is outstanding and packs a 10% abv. They featured a cherry sour ale, lemon/lime florida weiss, and a Passionfruit ale on tap last night. Necessitates another trip to try these all. I've been here too many times since their grand opening and its a brewery to watch closely, especially after seeing their enormous production capacity (huge ability for expansion) and state of the art kegging and bottling lines.

I came here a few weeks ago and was really impressed. Be aware that it appears quite suddenly on the road. There is however plenty of parking. The tasting room was pretty cool and had lots of cool art. Their beers were pretty solid. I really enjoyed their Night Swim Porter and Let It Lingor. The Night Swim Porter had an amazing roasty flavor. The Let It Lingor had a nice splash of good lingonberry flavor. They have plenty of seating and a food truck as well during the weekends, so you can eat, snack, and hang out! The bartenders are super cool and know a lot about the brewery, so don't be shy if you want to learn about what's up with Coppertail. It seems like they have quite a bit of space, and the blueprints on the wall suggest a lot of planned growth. They also have started distribution at local bars, so keep an eye out for them. I look forward to seeing how Coppertail will grow over time.

My first trip to Coppertail was with Tampa's Pub Bike Ride. The bartender poured us beers that they brewed there with pride. The brewery sits on the outskirts of ybor. Where Cubans rolled cigars (kinda) down by the seashore. Maybe it's because I was there with a crowd, That the seating was limited tho it never got too loud. I like wheat beers so I chose the Wheat Stroke. Don't call it Blue Moon. That would be a cruel joke. When I went, they were offering tripels, stouts ales and sours. Trying to taste them all would have kept me there for hours. This was just our first stop on our trail. But it won't be my last visit to Coppertail! Plus after, if you're feeling handy, over there's IKEA! Although assembling furniture drunk is an unwise idea!

  • Eric P.

We were told about this from our bartender at Cigar City. When we went when the brewery was still under construction. However, the tasting room was open. Great little space. They have 10 or so tables. Zeus was knowledgeable and happy to talk about each beer and the flavor profile. If I lived in Tampa I would make this a regular stop! Looking forward to seeing the finished brewing space next time we are in town!

Finally stopped in after a long trip at IKEA and was so happy we did! Great selection of beer - music was on point - very clean and relaxed atmosphere. Great selection of beers from IPA's and stouts to lighter crisper beers with hints of citrus and fruits. We grabbed some beers and headed to the patio to play some Jenga and enjoy the start of our night. Great place and will definitely go back!

This place was terrible. Boring, no TVs, no food, slow service, bad looking people everywhere. I went to the 7-11 and had a root beer instead.

  • Amber H.

I really enjoyed this brewery, mainly because of the friendly staff and patrons. It's very chill, and they have really good beers on tap I ordered a "purple drank", and when it was a bit too sour, the bartender cut it with framboise to make it taste like a chocolate covered raspberry. This seems like an awesome place for casual gatherings too.

We visited Coppertail recently while out brewery hopping. I thought the place was completed, but apparently the current tasting room is temporary. We walked in to find the place quite busy, standing room only. We grabbed a flight of everything and sat down and began to sample. All the beers were at or above average except for the IPA. It had a buttery flavor to it. I have sampled it since and it did not have that flavor so it must have been an off batch. The place wasn't highly decorated and had a few board games to play. You could tell it was not a permanent home for the tasting room. The service was good and I look forward to returning. I will probably wait to return once the brewery is completed.

This place is awesome sauce!! It's bigger than I think the reviews let on, and they have a great selection of beers. The place is eclectic and fun, and the restrooms are super clean :) Free dive citrus- I haaaate IPAs. But this is truly a fantastic beer! Monster marlin- tie for my favorite beer with free dive citrus. Sooo good. Wheat stroke- really great, I'm a big fan! The bf loved unholy, and really liked the peach cider (cigar city cider mead). They were out of purple drank :( We will definitely be back!!

Beautiful brewery. Saint Gambrinus, pray for us. Glass high for our vice. Did I just walk into a wedding reception venue? Not like one of those all white hotely chair skirt events, but the dark rustic barn mason jar type venues. This has got to be one of the most beautiful breweries I've ever been to. There's a great outdoor seating. Lots of random games (giant jenga! pac man for free!) There's incredible artwork that makes me want to be hugged by a kraken. And an epic multi-story view into the brew house. It. is. gorgeous. I was a little sad to not get a Sunday tour. Shucks. I'll have to go back. When I do go back, it would be great if the sour beers were better marked as sours. 9/10 times I regret a sour beer (unless it's on a salad), and the stakes are higher when it's a SURPRISE sour beer. But the selection is great, and the samplers are cheap. All that to say, I very much look forward to returning here very very soon.

This newer Ybor City area brewery has potential for greatness. I only sampled their IPA, and it was a delicious contender for one of the top 5 local IPAs, ranking only slightly behind the perennnial favorite, Cigar City Jai Alai. However, the ambience of this place blows Cigar City's harshly lit, uncomfortable tasting room out of the water. This new construction somehow looks like it's been here for years. Beautiful low-key lighting, two-story soaring spaces, a nice bar, and some extremely comfortable couches and chairs for long-term lounging. You'll want to hang out for awhile if you come. The only problem is they close at 11pm, and the night I was there, the two staffers started upending the chairs at least an hour early. Now, I hate it when the staff starts visibly closing when there are still customers trying to enjoy their expensive craft beers. Note to management: Do not start closing until you actually close. They also lose points for not being dog friendly. Apparently, the city shut them down, temporarily, until some paperwork is ironed out, at which point dogs may be allowed back in. A real shame because this place is perfect for pooches.

Very important: Enter from the SOUTH side. The google maps marker is on the north side, and holy crap that area looks like a rape festival. Cool brewery. Has some games including a brewer's card game that has some wise background in beer brewing and poorly worded instructions. The taps seem to rotate enough that if I listed the beers I enjoyed I'd just be a tease, but, I'd give them between 3 and 4 stars out of 5.

Had a fantastic day at Coppertail today! Beer was on par...IPAs were phenomenal and the sour was delightful. Love coming here!

  • Erin C.

This is a great space with some pretty unique and tasty beers. The big winners of the day were Brews Banner and Hoppucino. They were worth the visit alone! They had a great selection of their own beers and a few others on tap too. Nice! Plenty of seating both inside and outside. I love the relaxed and family friendly vibe. This would have been a 5 star visit, but the bartenders there on the day of our visit were less than friendly. Two completely ignored us, but fortunately one took pity on us and finally served us some tasters. I would definitely go back and keep my fingers crossed for the same great beers and better service.

I ended up going here about a week ago for the grand opening night. They have a good selection of craft beers some comparable to cigar city. The facility is a large two level building with a brewing on one side and the bar area and a large portion of the other. The setting here is a rustic/industrial. The antique decor adds up to a lot of the charm. The second level for now has been reserved for private parties/events. I haven't taken the tour here yet, but hope to soon.

Another micro beer joint in Ybor, what a great addition to the beer scene! The place is off the beaten path from the 7th avenue strip. I'm familiar with the area and would not mind walking but I will worn you it can get a little sketchy looking as you will be in the more industrial area of Ybor and there is not much foot traffic. Therefore I recommend driving. They only serve beer (no food) but that may change in the future so make sure you check their website. They are building out a new tasting area so this is for the current one. It has a very cozy welcoming feel with adequate sitting and standing areas. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable about Coppertail and guest beers on tap. No bottled beers here, only draft. They have a selection of about 8/10 beers on tap including guest beers. I have a feeling this place will only get better and become more popular.

Fun crowd, great beer and an overall great place to grab a craft beer. It's located by the Ikea and after a long day of shopping there's is no better way to end it than with one of their beers. So far we have tired the unholy trippel, night swim, fuzzy farmhouse , wheat stroke, purple drank and the hardest part has been picking a favorite.

The beer Gods must be smiling down on Tampa - Coppertail is AMAZING! So, after doing yucky errands like furniture shopping I often like to stop and have a beer. This is exactly what led us to Coppertail, a patio furniture shopping trip up the street had me craving beer. I was immediately impressed upon entering the tasting room. This place is just lovely inside with really funky decor on the walls and many different seating options. We bellied up to the bar and took a look at their menu. They had some beers that I would expect at any craft brewery and some more creative ones (PURPLE DRANK). My husband and I each had 2 beers and they were all tasty. As they already have quite a few beers on tap, I look forward to coming back to sample more that Coppertail has to offer. The last thing I wanted to mention is how friendly and homey Coppertail is. The patrons and the bartender were all involved in a group conversation while I was there, which is rare to see in a tasting room or bar full of strangers. I have a sneaky suspicion that Coppertail will be my new spot!

The BA Seasonal Relief porter was abso-bloody-lutely beautiful. What a perfect beer...also had the dry hopped saison called Monster Marlin. That was a great flavour. Both really neat beers. The atmosphere is really cool too. I loved the whole feel of the place and will definitely be back for more!

Very nice place, people are nice. Get the full sampler. They 2 very good beers, trippel and stout. 8 % and 9.5 %, so watch out.

Thanks to my man John over at Coppertail for letting La Chica and I come in and get a sneak peek of what will surly be Pepin's flagship craft beer, located right here in Ybor City! Coppertail makes one of my favorite Belgian-style beers called a Tripel. Theirs is titled the "Unholy Tripel." If you don't get it, laugh now and figure it out later. They also produce a wheat beer called "Wheat Stroke," which is also very tasty. We also saw several old cabernet barrels that were aging with some experimental sour mash beers. That should be interesting. As for the building, there is still lots of work to be done. It should be completed by September though. The facility will include a tasting room, as well as a private room that can be rented out for future parties. The tasting room will feature two large windows that will peer directly into the brewery's massive tanks and bottling line. This place was ingeniously designed by the master brewer, Casey, who has been working in breweries around the world since he was 18 year old. He personally orchestrated the arrangement of where every single piece of machinery is, and even invented some equipment to help better load hops into the tanks. Dude is brilliant, and from what I was told, he can start brewing a batch via a smartphone ap from his couch. Folks, keep your eyes on Coppertail. Their suds will be flowing at a tap house near you soon enough.

Now this is the brewery Tampa needed. The atmosphere is very rustic, pipes showing, concrete floors etc. The upstairs has you overlooking the barrels and you can watch the beers being brewed. Truthfully, I'm not a huge fan of beer, I am of IPA's and with that, I'm very picky. I only got to try Free Dive, which was amazing. If you're a fan of IPA's you will love this beer. I can't wait to try the others and they just released a Stout!

  • Brett N.

Why 5 stars? Because the weirder the beer, the better. --- --- --- I love when breweries come up with crazy concoctions like "purple drank" and the "Lingonberry Weisse." When you make the trek out to a new brewery and they just have the standard - one wheat, one amber, one IPA, etc... it's a bit harder to separate them from the rest of pack sometimes. This is why one of my favorite breweries in Florida is Funky Buddha - they come up with some absolute craziness. Now that being said, I have never brewed a beer in my life. I'm sure it's incredibly difficult to brew a successful peanut butter and jelly, or a marshmallow beer. But I like when they try! The more traditional beers are great as well. I tried the wheat and the unholy trippel. Excellent work, brewmasters! Another great thing about Coppertail is the look of the tasting room. It's really modern and generally awesome looking. I also love that they are in Ybor, as a brewery was one of the only elements missing from that hood! It's just a few blocks off the main strip off Ybor... right across from IKEA!

Love the vibe of this place. Super cool and beer is good. Esp love the 2-oz pours! We each had pints and THEN started the tasters! LOVE the mini Belgium!

Love the location, love the warm welcoming awesome tasting room but most of all....two thumbs up on the beer....so good...so needed...so gonna go back. P.S. Food Truck in the parking lot

The tasting room is relatively new, but it is a very pleasant place to grab some top notch beers. The murals inside are really fantastic as is the cleanliness of the place. The beers themselves are the best that ive had locally.

  • Kim M.

Absolutely spot on. The sours and the IPA are delicious. Such a fun place and we hope locals support them in their rise to the top of the beer chain. We head back to CO tomorrow, but will be spreading the word about Coppertail to our Denver beer community.

Fantastic beer, fantastic folks. Coppertail has done it right. They focus on making the best possible beer and that shows through and through. A Tampa brand to be proud of.

So very dissapointed with this brewery. My boyfriend works at a local brewery and was so excited to bring me here to try a couple great craft brews. We went in today, 4/25 at about 2 PM. It wasn't crazy busy- the bar wasn't even full so we were able to snag 2 bar seats. The bartender greeted us and moved on. About 10 minutes later we had made up our minds and were patiently waiting for anyone to take our order ...once again the bar seats were not even full . After making eye contact for about 15 minutes , people would walk up to the bar and the bartenders took their orders immediately. ..still giving us no awknowledgement or service. After 15 minutes we were so shocked and upset we walked out. It's a shame because my boyfriend is in the local craft brewing business and we wanted to support the fellow breweries but it is safe to say we will not be returning.

I really like this place. I recently went with a friend for the first time. It's not a big place at all and a little hard to find at first because they are undergoing some construction. When you walk in you immediately notice the chalk board walls decorated with fancy art and showing which beers are on tap. Like most local breweries it does not have very many taps, I would day they had about 8. Pricing was very reasonable I paid $5 for a pint the beer overall was very good. I'm still new to the craft beer scene so I'm pretty easily surprised by all the different beers. I had he copper tail free dive IPA. It was a citrusy malty beer, the tastes were bold. I really enjoyed that beer. Next I had copper rail night swim porter. This beer was great because I have a sweet tooth and this had some really nice notes of chocolate in it. I've come to really enjoy porters and this one was one of the best I've had thus far. Lastly I sampled the "Purple Drank" that was interesting. It's very fruity and has a bit of a strange after taste. It was a great sample but I don't know if I could drink a whole pint. The ambiance was very casual. My friend and I arrived a little after 4 when they opened it was just me him and one of his friends we met there. Over the course of the next hour about 8 more people showed up which put the room at about half capacity form the seats I could see. They played a great selection of music not following one genre. I can wait to go back there and try a few more of their beers. If your looking for a good local brewery and or if your into craft beer check these guys out!

We just stopped in here for a quick flight but I'd say A+ for the atmosphere; they've got a very cool vibe. B for the actual beers which were all good but nothing really stood out. C for service which really could have been better. I also very much disliked the fact that there was no description for the "Core 4" beers. I mean, I can assume that a beer called Night Swim is a dark beer, but I had no idea what style the others were and the bartender was not helpful at all when I asked. I would go back with friends because it seemed like a cool place to hang out, but if you're a real beer lover, I think you'll find there's something to be desired.

  • Caitlin B.

If the décor does not keep you occupied the Trivial Pursuit board game will. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was not busy at all. Beer was very good especially the wheat beer but I would come back for the ambiance.

Another very solid brewery in Tampa. Near Ybor City, the brewery is in a cool, little spot near the Crosstown Expressway. They have four signature beers that are always on tap and several others that change. The tripel was great and the other signatures were very good. This place has a really cool feel to it as well. Beer artwork, chalk drawings, and mismatched furniture make the place feel very comfortable. Bartender walks you through their selection and helps you pick things you might enjoy. The flights are a good deal and you can try all of the beers with two flights. Bonus: it is across the street from Ikea. So, you can enjoy some craft beer and then fill up on meatballs and cheap furniture. Perfect combo.

This was our favorite brewery we visited in Tampa. The people are so friendly and the beers were DELICIOUS. They are currently renovating/expanding but they still have a great set up with some real neat art work. A definite must if you are a beer lover!

Would have liked to like this place, but very poor service, came in and was ignored even though it was a slow night. Could have probably went back and brewed my own, given that no wait staff paid any attention to us. Also, area of city is not the safest. Beware.

  • Julie B.

My husband and I stopped by Coppertail last Friday night. Crowded, but not too crowded, although I had a hard time getting one of the many bartenders to make eye contact with me. Once I got my beers poured, the bartender did not know know how much they were. Really? So I blindly handed over my cash. Maybe it was 10? 11? 12? Not sure. Unfortunately my IPA loving husband did not enjoy his Citrus IPA although I loved my colab brew from 7th Sun and Coppertail. We will try it again, because hey! It's across from the Swedish theme park and all that shopping makes us thirsty.

Fantastic place! The building is a work of art in itself. You feel very comfortable sitting anywhere in the building. There is also available seating outdoors. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable as well. There are a lot of wonderful beers to choose from as well. I would recommend anyone to stop by for a very reasonably priced brew.

We are so glad that we decided to check out the brewery despite not loving the 2 flagship beers we tasted at other area establishments. We love that they offer 4 ounce pours for 2 bucks in order to be able to enjoy everything on the board that appealed to us without getting trashed. Our favorites this day were the Citrus IPA, the Oxtail Saison collab with Oxbow, and Seasonal Relief Baltic Porter with elder/goji berries, but we took home a growler of the Citrus IPA. IMO, the citrus IPA should be one of the flagship beers as I found it as complex as my former favorite, but much more "sessionable" and food friendly. The bonus was the friendly, well trained staff and open, uncrowded atmosphere which was quite welcome after a visit to IKEA.

Hubby and I are craft brew lovers. We frequently travel to try new brews and attend the best of festivals (Portland is our fave festival so far). Good parking, great environment with seats that can please all types, fantastic art and very clean. Looks like a lot of money has been invested in what looks like a new brewery. We enjoyed seeing through the windows and watching the bottling in process. Ordered several samples and loved Unholy Tripel the most; made me want to go to the confession booth sitting just ten feet away and spill all. It was the Free Ride that caught our interest (trying it at the hotel) that got this place on our list. The Wheat Stroke was also very good. We'd definitely buy this brewery's beers. Last comment, the bathrooms were so clean and cooly decorated. Coopertail Brewing is now in our top 10!

John took us on a behind the scenes tour today showing us how construction has been coming along. I had no idea what we were in for! This old Tampa Helmann's Mayonnaise, fridge repair building was renovated and it's history salvaged by these guys. John made the tour super safe keeping close tabs on us the whole way thru. It was all impressively green, sterile, and computerized in there, with music coming from a back wall of immense house speakers. Posted what pics I could while listening intently to John along the way. Thanks for allowing the great visit!

This brewery is NEW and right across the street from IKEA. They have a temporary tasting room open and I think the "real" tasting room is going to be pretty epic like the one at Cigar City or maybe 3 Daughters in St. Pete. Really good graphic design and art here. I like that a lot. I like that there are games in the tasting room and that the food truck I visited there was reasonably priced with reasonable waits (15 minutes while my pizza baked). I met a friendly couple while I was there and we talked beer and food for about an hour. I didn't LOVE any of the beer but they only had 6 taps that day, 2 of which were IPAs (they usually have 8 but had run out). I did like the Tripel and wheat beer enough that I ordered a pint after going through my flight. However, it was unmemorable enough that I don't know which beer was in my pint glass. I really didn't like their stout, which surprised me as that's one of my favorite types of beer. I'm sure as they mature their beers will improve and I'm excited to see their "real" tasting room once it's completed.

Great beer, awesome space, friendly bartenders! Incredibly impressive facility since the renovation.

This place is phenomenal! The IPAs are very good. When they have the Hoppuccino (aka coffee IPA) try it! It's outstanding! The tasting room has a modern industrial design with giant windows to see in to the brewery. Plenty of parking, board games, card games, and a Pac Man cocktail arcade!
