Sushi-ya gross-gross. Holy cow, this was some pretty bad Japanese food. Sushi was bad down to the rice. Sashimi slices were about the smallest I've ever seen. Rolls were bland and were small. The best thing I could say about the tempura was that it was fried. Cutting corners was blatantly obvious: pot stickers were deep fried (easy) instead of pan steamed then pan fried (that's why they're called pot stickers) and sashimi was plated on shredded cabbage and garnished with a piece of lettuce (cheap and tasteless) instead of shredded daikon and perilla leaf (traditional and nicely complements fish). If his sensei saw this cabbage-plating I'm sure the sensei would cry or slap him upside the head. Portions were minuscule but the tab was not. The owner chef was quite unfriendly. It was freezing in there too. The dishware was mostly the cheapest of the cheap melamine and the soup was served in porcelain bowls (ironically, in Japan they use melamine imitating lacquerware for soup) - I usually don't notice down to this level of detail but this demonstrates how little pride the chef has in his work. Being from Japan this makes my blood boil. Is there a way to give a negative number of stars? To be fair, the waitress was nice and as attentive as she could be despite being severely understaffed
