Love these juicy, local grass fed burgers. The fries and milkshakes are awesome too! I'll be back for sure!

Take this for what it is Yelper's, a hamburger stand. But at that, they surpass most others. What Fatbelly lacks in creativity and options (there aren't any) they make up for in quality beef and a burger done right. Too many places try too hard and end up creating a burger that's more about them than the burger. At Fatbelly it's just a burger - and it's a damn good one! The meat comes from one of those grass-fed pasture-raised ranches in the west (not feed lot corn fed crap). In short, the way beef is supposed to be raised and the way it's supposed to taste. Yummy. The bun is soft (unlike this shingle of a bun I'm currently consuming at The Brick Oven Cafe in Crested Butte (review to follow)). The other basics ingredients are fresh. In short, it was juicy, moist, flavorful, and fresh. Oh, and the French fries are hand cut and homemade to boot! Eat one. Half way down the road I'd wished I'd gotten two....

Stopped on our way to aspen thinking we were going to have a great hamburger but unfortunately it was it good. Fries weren't fully cooked and extremely greasy. Bun was a cheap white bun. Wouldn't recommend.

In town visiting family, kids and I wanted to get out for a good, easy burger and Fatbelly delivered. Carbondale's take on Burger Lounge that we love back home with a patty more like Smashburger. The burger could have been a little bigger but the stellar service and Glacier ice cream pushed the rating to 5 regardless.

Not friendly to tourists. Food was average, service was poor. Sign out front said the special of the day was salad - I ordered a salad and was told by the not so friendly staff that there was no salad. Perhaps the sign should have been updated.

Great smallish burgers. They use locally wholesomely raised meat. They offer beef, lamb, veggie burgers. Our party of four each ordered standard burgers which come topped with cheese, special sauce, grilled onions, tomatoes and iceberg lettuce. The burgers were tasty on fluffy white buns. Fries were from fresh potatoes, but were just ok. The restaurant does have both indoor and outdoor seating. Counter service and they call your name when the order is ready.

Not a family friendly place staff wasn't pleasant, maybe I went at the wrong time mediocre food, would give it another try but the staff has no patient with children and need better training

Hell. Yeah. If I lived in Carbondale, I would eat here every freaking day, the burgers are *that* good. Soft, white bun. Grilled onions. Special sauce to die for. American cheese, baby. Tart, sour pickle slices. Iceburg lettuce. A tomato slice (though not my bag). The centerpiece, of course, is the patty, which is made from locally raised and grass pastured Crystal River Meats beef. Those cows are Carbondale raised and bred. Bike, hike, or ski anywhere above Carbondale and you're going to see their property signs. This, personally, means the world to me. I was a vegetarian for nearly twenty years. Beef was the last thing for me to get down with when I got back on the meat wagon, as I just can not support Big-Agra, feedlot based cattle operations. No burger is worth contributing to the torture of the animal providing your meat (seriously, have you ever seen a cattle feedlot? Imagine living in *that* for two whole years). With the Jacober's beef, you can eat a burger and not be an asshole. Seriously. Plus, it just tastes damn good. Want an ethically sourced Big Mac? Add a second patty to your Fatbelly burger and you will be in burger heaven. I have to add that the shakes here are out of this world. I rarely have room for them if we get a side of hand cut fries, but I always want one. Thick, creamy, and rich, they always go down way too fast. I haven't had the tree huger or the new ground lamb burger because I am so addicted to The Standard, but I would bet good money that they are just as good. A few last notes explaining the reason for my five star review: I always ask for the burger well done and they always deliver it exactly the way I like it (no pink). That, in my opinion, is service. The guys behind the counter are friendly and nice, even on a 99 degree day. You're supporting a locally owned business when you spend your money there. What's not to love?

From Randy: Burger was AWEsome! The special sauce made the burger, fresh fresh bun, fresh beef, great toppings. You could tell the fries were hand-cut - very tasty. The only con is I wish the burger was a little bigger. Wish there were a few more fries. For the price, there should have been more.

I really enjoy burger places with simple menus that focus more on good meat and ingredients than fancy toppings. Fatbelly does just that. I had the plain jane and fries - both good. My son liked the hotdog (which is rare since he is so picky). We'll be back!

We were coming out of the mountains after a couple of days of camping and just wanted a nice burger, nothing fancy, nothing expensive, nothing Aspen. The difficulty we usually have with that desire is that my family doesn't eat factory-farmed meat, so a lot of burger joints don't cut it. I found this place on Yelp and it looked like just the thing. And it WAS just the thing: good, local, grass-fed beef, nicely formed and cooked burgers, hand cut fries, yummy shakes. Just perfect and exactly what we were craving. One tiny thing: Odd that a place so dedicated to high quality ingredients and local food would serve milkshakes in styrofoam cups. I get that they don't want to do dishes, but maybe plastic or compostable or paper? I noticed a lot of styro and plastic in Colorado on this visit (I live in Portland, where I haven't seen a styrofoam container in a restaurant in about five years). Maybe it's just a cultural difference. Anyway, that's splitting hairs. You want a good burger and you're somewhere near Carbondale, come here.

Came here based these reviews and would like to join the party. This is my kind of burger and one of the better ones I've had in recent memory: simple, cheap and yummy. Keep up the great work, guys!

Great burger. If someone set out to do In N Out burger in their backyard this would be the best possible result. Really hit the spot.

Holy crap. From the moment I walked in and smelled the burgers broiling I could tell this place was different from all the other burger joints I'd ever been at. It was actually truly appetizing. I'm sure this came from the fact that they use fresh local Carbondale grass fed beef, the way cows should be raised. And I'd only seen cows in the area free range grazing on wild grass in prairies and mountains so I knew it would be good quality. The burger didn't disappoint. It just tasted different from anything I'd ever tasted. Actually healthy if you can say that about a burger. And at the same time definitely more hearty and tasty. This is what burgers should taste like I thought. American Kobe beef burgers are blah compared to this. The hand cut fries also tasted good. The texture was somewhat similar to In-N-Out but tasted much better. Didn't have the shakes so can't comment on them but they just had run of the mill canned sodas and bottled juices.

Very expensive for what you get. When we went in to order, the sign said, "your order comes with everything, so tell us if you don't want something." So for $4.25, I expected something more than a "shooter" of a burger, VERY small--without fries. Ok tasting burger but for the cost (no service or cost overhead to speak of) you are better off going somewhere else! No place to sit (logs outside) and for a stand-up place, they can do better with their pricing for sure.

Look, I've never been here because Todd Kennedy didn't check the hours of operation when I tried to reach this burger joint (11a.m. - 8:30p.m., funny that it changed) Irregardless, it gets five stars for simple reasons.... 1. They use fresh local beef to make their burgers. Local not like Co, or Greeley, but as in Carbondale. 2. Their burgers are $4.25 3. Their fries are hand cut 4. There's no where to sit (Good for them...This is a burger stand damn it!) 5. Their slogan is "Cows Fear Us" 6. They have a veggie burger 7. They call their veggie burger "The Tree Hugger". (May I suggest a rename to "Carbondolean" (Sp.?)) 8. Number 8, and the most important. They fill the void that exists in this valley of specializing in one thing, taking great pride in it and offering it cheap. Go figure, an east coaster figured it out! Here's a formal review from someone who's actually eaten there: ( hamburgeramerica.blogspo… ) Update: I'm going back to get my stuff out of storage and will be most definitely hitting up FbB and will post a "real review" upon my return!

Soo good! Heard about this place from friends in Carbondale, went with fiance one Saturday. Pleasantly surprised! I was expecting a gross burger joint but it was clean and simple. The menu only has basically a burger, cheeseburger, and veggie burger. They mighttt have hot dogs. And fries. Its almost like a burger stand, very little seating (outside). The people who worked there were very friendly! I had a veggie burger....sauce yummm. Fiance enjoyed his burger.

Local grass fed beef and hand cut fries for less than $5. Only complaint is the hamburger buns- Come on guys, you can do better than a bulk Sysco bun buy! You gotta have buns hun, but my anaconda will still stop in anyway.

Excellent burger, everything you'd want, nothing fancy. Just a solid, flavorful burger.

One of the best cooked to order hamburgers I've ever had. They use their own sauce in place of mayo or provide you with mayo packets. Fries are terrific as well. Drinks are a variety of 12oz cans in the nearby chiller. The milkshakes are small and pricey but taste wonderful.
