Great selection of craft beers. The menu had a wide selection of food for everybody in our party.. I had the meatloaf and it was very good. It was bacon wrapped and for a minute there I thought I as eating filet mignon. The staff was friendly and we really enjoyed our meal. We will do this again next time we are in town.

    D. and I have really enjoyed both the food and service, and this week was the best meal yet! They can make the simplest grilled chicken and asparagus fantastic! They have added Mahi to the regular menu, which is always superb. But they excel in pub comfort food, so expect really good biscuits, meatloaf, and burgers, too! I'm not a beer drinker, so was pleased to have wine selections! I highly recommend for atmosphere, convenience and friendliness.

We went here last night. We were pleasantly impressed. We had two of the specials MahiMahi and prime rib. The wood grill is part of the flavor and both dishes were amazing. My daughter had their chicken tenders which were great as well. The service was wonderful. We will be back.

Would've loved to try Southern Ale House, but was turned away at the door. It was 8pm and the sign on the door said they were open until 10pm. We were informed by an employee that they would be unable to serve us because they hadn't had enough customers that day and decided to close early. We're in town about twice a month on business and we've heard great things about SAH, so it's unfortunate we won't ever get to try it for ourselves. We won't be back.

Awesome burgers, sides are good. Tried one of the biscuits to go, it was good but think it would have been better fresh.

If you are thinking about going here do yourself a favor and drive downtown to Ave Pub. They have similar food with much better flavor. The food at SAH just isn't that great. If you have to go here just sit at the bar and try out some really good beers. I won't be a repeat customer.

This is my favorite new restaurant in Tuscaloosa. I come here at least once a week now and have brought others who are now also regulars. They have a lot of unique options on their menu - biscuits stuffed with things like BBQ and fried chicken (delicious and huge!), pimento cheese and fried pickle burgers (both yum!), and my favorite side, sweet potato tots. They are the best! Also, the owner and manager are friendly and are always in the restaurant getting to know the customers. The beer selection is fantastic and ever changing with beer on tap brewed right here in Alabama. They have a patio with a bar that dogs are allowed on. They also have nightly specials and happy hour. I've had many of their cocktails and specials and have enjoyed everything I've gotten! There is a cocktail made from whisky that is infused with Chilton county peaches that I would highly recommend drinking while munching on the bleu cheese nacho appetizer. Thumbs up to this place! I will keep coming back for my weekly fix of good beer and good food at very decent prices.

Ok, asparagus without tips? I haven't figured that one out. I deveined my own shrimp, a big no no. My dinner companion got the half chicken special and he said it was dry. Last week I really enjoyed the shrimp po boy. I tasted the catfish that one of the other guests with me had, it was good and the asparagus had tips that day. This is a brand new restaurant and I will check them out one more time, BUT do NOT sell out or settle. If the tips are wilting, throw them away. If the chicken is old, cut your losses and don't try to salvage it.

Had dinner at Southern Ale House last night and it was delicious. I have been several times before but the meal tonight was the best. Three of us had mahi mahi and it was PERFECTLY cooked...not always easy with fish. The service was great as well, also not easy because the place was packed.BTW they make a great dirty martini!!

We went on a very busy Friday night and waited about 40 minutes, which was less than the hour and a half the hostess warned us it would be. When we were seated the manager came over and apologized for our wait. We had a great waiter and even better food. We had the Buffalo chicken sandwich, buffalo Bleu cheese nachos with brisket, and the strawberry shortcake. Everything was divine. It's great that tuscaloosa finally has a nice restaurant with great service. I will definitely come back again.

So many good things to choose from. The pulled pork biscuit and the burgers ate top notch!!! Service was excellent as well.

I went here last week with a few colleagues and the environment was very cozy and the employees were very nice. I ordered the Southern Ale Burger, I think. Pros: The burger was really good, food took about 10-15 minutes to come out, my colleagues said their food were really good too. Cons: My fries had no taste to it at all. Overall: I can see myself coming here again for a lunch and dinner but this place wouldn't be one of my first choices.

If you're going to be an ale house, you'll need more than 15 taps. That may seem like a big number, but go to any other city and step into a real deal ale house. You'll see dozens of taps with beers of varying styles from all over the world. The Southern Ale House will need an upgrade in presentation to satisfy beer nerds expecting something more than a handful of local craft beers and the standard beer distributor menu (Blue moon, Stella, and the tired list of domestics) The menu was impressive. On it are exciting shades of southern fusion gastropub fare. I had the pulled pork po-boy which looked great. The only issue was it was pretty bland. I was about to ask for hot sauce or something to jazz it up, then I thought, "why am I asking for something to add flavor to a BBQ sandwich in the heart of BBQ land?". I ate the whole thing and it wasn't bad at all, so this isn't so much a complaint as an acknowledgment of mild disappointment. The verdict... not enough beers to qualify as an "ale house" and a rather blah BBQ sandwich. It won't take much to make this a fantastic place, but for now it's a mere two stars.

If I could give this restaurant a .5 star I would. When I first looked at the menu online I thought this would be a very good restaurant with unique food. Tonight my sister and I started out with an order of wings because you honestly can't mess up wings, or so I thought until tonight. I have never tasted a more underwhelming, bizarre tasting wing before in my life. The chicken was truly awful and I couldn't bring myself to take another bite. When talking to the manager, it was admitted that "it was a busy night and everything was thrown together in the same oil" and that oil pretty much tasted like a wet dog. Also, the sweet potato tots were extremely mushy and very undercooked, and very oily. Long story short, waste of money and very underwhelming.
