Nicest place I've ever stayed, plus only two short blocks from the theatres. My mom and I luxuriated in the Carriage House South (second building behind the main house). Our room was small and tidy with a large main bed and twin size bed in the nook under the stairs that go up to the carriage house north unit. We made friends with the folks above is which is always useful if you are trying to sleep under a staircase (the stairs are carpeted which helps, but you will hear the comings and goings--and water usage--of the folks upstairs.) The room was well appointed, the linens clean and luxuriously soft, the pillows plentiful. I usually avoid B&Bs because as a shift worker, I pretty much always sleep through the breakfast hours and can't be bothered to adhere to a strictly timed breakfast window. But after enjoying a takeway mango lassi and corn muffin sent from heaven I got up early enough for breakfast the rest of our stay! Breakfast was only 8:30-9:30 but absolutely worth the effort of getting up early. We also enjoyed an in-house dinner Friday night. Sorry I didn't take any photos of that (or the actual breakfasts, sorry, was too busy enjoying the deliciousness!) because it was a treat. And even came with an accompanying poem from the chef. Also of delicious note all hours: unique sherry to sample in the parlor, coffee and tea and fruit-infused water, and house-baked delicious treats like gluten free macaroons and date bars which went VERY well with a cuppa afternoon tea. In addition to the fabulous food and cut-above lodgings, the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff could not have been any better. Everyone encountered was pleasant and more than happy to help with every question (and we had so many...) and really went above and beyond to make our visit in Ashland truly exceptional. We asked for a tour on our last day and should have done that the first day! We got a very thorough and knowledgeable discussion of the social and architectural history of the building, owners, and residents, and even got to peek into those rooms which were not inhabited. Tour definitely best done after check out time, before evening check in time when rooms are most likely to be vacant! I will be saving up my pennies to stay here again and try a different room! Each one seems like a totally different (but all very lovely) experience.

We had the great privileged of being able to have brunch at the McCall House. First of all, a beautiful and historic home near downtown and the OSF theaters. Lovely interior and the service was excellent. Now let's discuss the wonderful food. Tables set up around the downstairs rooms, we shared a table with a lovely pair of visitors. Chocolate zucchini muffins awaited us, juice was offered and then toast and bacon and guacamole. Beautiful plates of chilliquillas (eggs with salsa, cheese and corn chips) appeared in front of us. More coffee. I found room for a second muffin somehow. The staff are so nice, warm, welcoming and have a great amount of local historical knowledge. Thank you!

One of the best B&B's I've ever stayed at. Everything was beyond expectation, and Daniel, the Inn Keeper, treated us like VIP's. There's a very warm and welcoming atmosphere to this historical home, not to mention great food and wine. Breakfast was gourmet and Daniel made wonderful suggestions about what to do around town. We will definitely be coming back when we return to Oregon.

McCall house has gone downhill in the last year with the new management. They no longer provide a coffee service upstairs, expecting guests to make their own or come downstairs - difficult to do for a 6am cup. The cleaning crew is obnoxious about pursuing a gratuity by putting a gratuity envelope in increasingly invasive places as the days progress, assuming that I don't know how to behave at a b&b like this. I was disappointed that our sheets don't get washed after 3 days anymore. I appreciate the drought but they should at least tell us that they won't change them. We have come to McCall house for more than a decade. The deterioration in service will make us reconsider staying here in the future.

Shane the Chef and Nola the Inn Keeper couldn't have been more accommodating! I eat gluten free and each day at breakfast they would make sure I had plenty to eat! We can't wait to go back! Super friendly!

I have stayed at the McCall House at least ten times and in every room in this charming house. It is the best B&B I have ever experienced. It is spotlessly clean, the breakfasts are delicious, and the late-night after-play cookies are excellent as well. Nola and her staff care so much about their guests having a relaxing stay, and Nola (the manager) always knows which local restaurants are on their way up, or down, as the case may be. You will meet interesting people in the parlor, and have every comfort of home in your room. It is not the cheapest place, but its location (less than two blocks from the theatres) makes it ideal, yet it is quiet and serene at the same time. It is a top-dollar choice but also an outstanding value. On this current trip I needed some special assistance because I had foot surgery and was wearing a cast, something not anticipated at the time we booked our rooms (many months in advance). Nola worked her magic and, with the cooperation of other guests, rearranged my accommodations to a ground-floor room for all three of our nights, proving that the guests can be as nice as the staff. I concur with every other five-star review of this magnificent Ashland experience.

We have been going to the McCall House for over 20 years. Have seen different innkeepers, owners, cooks and remodels. Through it all the McCall House has always maintained the highest level of quality and service. We just stayed again this last weekend and though it has been five years, it is exactly as we remembered it: Immaculate room, fresh baked cookies, unique and tasty breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. It's a solid old building which keeps it quiet. You rarely hear other guests in rooms. When we stay there (which is most often in off season) clientele is mostly mature folks without children (which has now become us). And of course, the location for Oregon Shakespeare is literally a 2 block walk, with restaurants, shops and Lithia Park are all right there. You park your car and there it stays until you leave. We have also brought bikes and it is close to both the 26 mile paved trail or mountain bike trails above Lithia Park. We have stayed at many B&Bs in Ashland and they all have something to recommend, but we keep coming back to the McCall House because it really has it all.

Fabulous. Super clean. Great location near all the theaters and places to eat. Breakfast everyday. Fresh fruit and egg dish. coffee and tea and juice every day all day. home baked cookies each afternoon. sherry in the room. chocolates when the covers are turned down each night. We are talking full service, fantastic lodging. the staff are helpful and informative and responsive. Nola (not sure of spelling) and Alex and Kelly answer questions, gladly add to daily adventures, and set a tone of joy and relaxation. we are going back as do most of the partons here. if you are heading to ashland, this is a must stay place. brad.

Always great -- we've been coming here for 4 years. Great location - 1 block to downtown And Ashland isn't just about the plays. There are some good hikes around too. And Nola is helpful for both activities, making recommendations.

Enjoyed another great trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. We stayed for our third time at McCall House. Great location, helpful staff, and quiet, comfortable rooms. Also enjoyed a wine/cheese event by EdenVale winery. Our pourer was very personable and informative, and the outside venue a great place to spend a Saturday later afternoon.

Absolutely the best place to stay in Ashland - my home away from home. Food is amazing, conversation with the other guests always enjoyable and informative, and the amenities so comfortable. Truly a treasure!

Just an update to my review from a year ago. It is still a great place to stay and the afternoon snack is fabulous.

The McCall House is the only place I want to stay in Ashland. I've come up here with a Stanford group twice, and each time it feels like I'm coming to a home away from home. It's a charming Victorian, with all of the charm and quaint coziness, without being at all Gothic or overly cute. Cheery, thoroughly homey and impeccably decorated. Fantastic place, all of the rooms are great. There's also a cozy living room, great for sitting and reading and enjoying a nice cup of tea or coffe. The innkeeper is really nice, and she put out a plate of cookies for us each day, along with breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. It's only five minutes' walk from the Angus Bowmer theatre, and two blocks from downtown Ashland, so it's easy to stroll into town, grab some food, and head over to the theater.

Okay, so this is not a five star rating based on food quality, not to say that the breakfast here is bad, but this five star is a combination of things. Among them are the innkeeper and her staff. Nola and Maggie cook wonderful breakfasts and are so warm and welcoming. They run a tight ship and the McCall house has benefited from Nola's design touch as well. The proximity to everything is a plus as well. Walking distance to the theaters, and stumbling distance from the pubs. The rooms are brilliant as well, tastefully decorated and spacious and cozy. I am not really the authority on this place though. My wife and her family have been coming to Ashland for 20 years and for at least half that have stayed at the McCall house, so they have seen some ups and downs here. But I think they would agree that Nola and the owners have done a great job retaining the charm of this wonderful historic house

First of all, let me start by saying that the property itself is stunning from the street. Walking up to it the first time (just passing through Ashland), I thought, "Wow, I have to stay here sometime!" I've now stayed here twice, both times in the Anna Anderson room, and I have to say that each time is a treat. The house itself is beautiful both inside and out. The Anna Anderson room is great for three people (I love the little bed in the corner) and having the sink and vanity outside of the bathroom and shower is really helpful. McCall House is a less than 10 minute walk from the theatres and has proven to be a lifesaver when seeing a play. I don't have to worry about trying to find a parking space because the house itself has a parking lot out back. The food in the morning has been excellent twice. I had my first eggs benedict at McCall House and it started me down the path of loving poached eggs. Really excellent food! Honestly, I don't see a reason that I wouldn't continue to stay at McCall House every time I come to Ashland in the future.

What a treat! We were in Ashland off-season and had issues with our original reservation at another place. I called in the afternoon to see if they had availability, and they told us to come on over! They gave us a break on the room price since it was last minute which was nice. Off-season is very affordable, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay there during high season at full price. It is such a lovely place. We were the only ones staying there that night, and instead of feeling like we were an inconvenience they were happy to have us. We toured the whole house and picked the room that appealed to us. Then after talking with the cook, Shane, we made breakfast plans with him for the next morning. Breakfast was great, and it gave him a chance to try out some new recipes on us. We were willing and very happy guinea pigs! The room was great, and the location is very central. There is parking in the back and small kitchenette areas on each floor so you can make yourself some coffee or tea. We enjoyed the parlour in the evening, and spent a few hours reading by the fire, and helping ourselves to cookies in the cookie jar. All in all, such a treat, and we'll be back for sure!

Unbelievable B & B! I was on a long road trip and too exhausted to continue looking for another cheap hotel. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed this gorgeous B&B. I checked Trip Advisor and it was rated #1. I guessed it would be full or out of my price range but they had one room left -- one amazingly beautiful room -- which they offered to me at a discount since it was just for one person. I wish I could post a picture, the room was that gorgeous, and the customer service was off the chart as well. I needed to leave early and the kind chief wouldn't let me leave without some breakfast, which he prepared just for me. This saved me a lot of time on the way back to the Eugene airport. The only downside to my beautiful purple room was that it didn't have a bathtub, but in every other way, I felt like a queen. Just yesterday, I received a Thanksgiving card from them. Who are these amazing people? Oh, and I treated myself to a nice dinner that evening. Larks, inside a hotel about four blocks away, was totally delicious and the service was also outstanding. I was so grateful for these kind and wonderful respites in Ashland! This is probably the best B&B I've ever stayed at in my life. If you have the chance, I would highly recommend the experience.
