We scouted this place out on Yelp because we planned to stop in Thermopolis for lunch on the way back to Denver from Yellowstone. Yet again, Yelp doesn't lead you astray. It was Sunday so we were worried they'd be closed, and from the corner driving by it looked like they were, but the main part of the restaurant is really on the side street. See the picture above for reference. They're open 7am to 3pm everyday. Serve breakfast all day (until they close at 3) and it's delicious breakfast food. The portions are huge. I would highly recommend the biscuits & gravy and the huge cinnamon roll. The service was so friendly - small town charm! A great stop in Thermopolis.

    1. Delightful service- fast and friendly. 2. Good coffee. 3. Standard breakfast café fare done right. Not expensive at all. You would think most places couldn't screw up eggs, toast, bacon, et cetera. It happens. A lot. At expensive, hipster places. Not the case here. This place is non-pretentious and has good solid food. Go to black bear café.

Friendly atmosphere with good old country decor. Good made to order food in a timely fashion. After a hard day of swimming, this place hits the spot. Good homemade pie just like grandma makes. Nestled in the heart of downtown makes it easy to get to.

Good local place for breakfast. Big menu, big pancakes, liked the blue poppa bear combos with fresh bilberry pancakes. If you're driving through Thermopolis, this is a great breakfast stop.

Excellent food! I had the Breakfast Tacos and they were quite yummy! The server was a dear. I will return when I'm in town again.

Excellent! Great breakfast. My only beef is we paid for some monk brewed coffee that was not so good. It's kind of hyped in the restaurant as the coffee to get and is more expensive than standard. i thought it was watery. however the rest of the food and the service was impeccable. great experience.

This restaurant is unbelievable for such a small town ! The huge, freshly made cinnamon rolls, pies, and bread pudding are delish! The breakfast menu is HUGE and has most everything you might want. My favorite for lunch is the pulled pork burrito with the homemade green chili sauce (not hot, just flavorful), but I truly haven't had any dish there that wasn't yummy!

Stopped by early on a Saturday morning, pleasantly surprised. Feels like a cafe you'd find in a bigger city, big windows, modern. Waitress and cook were welcoming, warm, and prompt. Ordered coffee, a parfait, cinnamon roll, and breakfast burrito. Everything was delicious, burrito was the size of a small baby. Glad we had gone to the hot springs the night before so that we didn't lapse into a food coma in the pools.

YUM! Didn't think I would find a good place to eat on Thermopolis but I was surprised. Very good and large size meals, big selection and all home style! If you come through, stop here. Not hungry? Try the cinnamon roll!

While fishing in Thermopolis, I visited this quaint cafe three days in a row! It was fantastic all three days and gave me a chance to try three different meals. The breakfast burrito is fantastic. Their pork green chile is on point with shredded pork instead of cubed pork which I prefer. They cook perfect sunny side up and over easy eggs. Black bears service is impeccable and they keep the coffee coming. In this small town in Wyoming there are not many choices and you CAN'T go wrong with this cafe. I love what the owners have done with this cafe and I can't wait to come back and try it again.

Stopped in for a meal and a table while I waited to pick up my fisherman. It's a sweet little restaurant as others have said. Not disappointed with service or food or coffee. All was very well done. Not the fluffiest omelette I've had but I did enjoy the sausage very much. No one offered cinnamon buns or blueberry pancakes as others gushed about in their reviews. Maybe they're not available any more. Overall, nice spot to eat and enjoy. Bright, clean and busy.

Fantastic fresh breakfast. 2 egg omelets are the norm so you dont pay for 3 unless you want it. Great priced excellent service.

How do I love the Black Bear Cafe? Let me count the ways..... Big coffee mugs, the coffee, the spicy hot sausage, the wheat toast, the bacon, the ham, the blueberry pancakes, the crooner radio station, the staff...... Get thee to the Black Bear Cafe!

Stopped for breakfast on our way home to Missouri from Cody. Wonderful service. Pancakes were awesome; loved the "hot and cake" and the big breakfast burrito. Kids loved the covered wagon booth. If we are ever back that way, we'd definitely stop in again!!!

This is our go to place for BREAKFAST!! Love the service and food; why would I complain? I keep going back! Like what you see on the menu? ORDER IT! I love their Pork Green Chili; especially on the rare occasion they get some SPICY Green Chilies!

Asked one of the locals where was a good place to eat - he recommended Black Bear Cafe. Went there for the noon meal. I had beer battered fish and cole slow and potato salad. It was excellent. The wait staff were great, really quick, and definitely good looking! Keep up the great restaurant!!

Food was good, all made fresh. I got a turkey melt with Cole slaw. They serve breakfast all day. Very clean inside. Booths were a little dated. I would return for breakfast or lunch.

Very cute interior, with a relaxed "seat yourself" coziness. Excellent menu variety and reasonable prices for the area. My son and I came in for lunch, and we both enjoyed our meals. Soda is served in the can with a glass of ice on the side, many of the menu items are homemade, and the staff is very friendly. I look forward to eating here again.

Stopped by on another road trip. Breakfast of biscuits and gravey with house fries and egg. The house fries are amazing! Lots of crispy black bits and tons of flavor. The biscuits and gravey were ok, but nothing to get super excited about. We also had the French toast combo, egg and bacon. Pretty standard, a bit bland. Shakes were good, but the we're chunks of ice milk in them. The staff is still super friendly. Still a great bargin meal. Will stop by again I'm sure.

For rural Wyoming, quite a nice little restaurant with good atmosphere. Went for lunch and looked like they had a good selection (and my lunch mates really enjoyed there meal) but the selection for vegetarians definitely is very small. The only lunch like item that was vegetarian was the cheese only quesadilla. It was ok but nothing special.

This was a gem of a spot. The breakfast food was top notch, coffee was good and the service was friendly. We will be going back the next time my family and I are in Thermop!

Five stars in Thermop. Excellent breakfast (be prepared, they are Wyoming size meaning, hearty). We had wanted to try this place for dinner but I think they are only open for breakfast and lunch. Try the green and red chili. The red is veggie style, with actual vegetables in it. I preferred the green but both were good. The cinnamon rolls are giant and good to share. Good coffee. The lunch menu looked good, too. They have a fairly large menu for a small cafe. There were a variety of pies available. Friendly service. Bison appears to be local (as advertised at the table). We didn't try any, but perhaps a good place to order a bison burger (compared to say, Safari or Pumpernicks).

We recently vistted this sleepy little town to celebrate a birthday. On Sunday morning we went to the Black Bear Cafe for breakfast. Upon entering the restaraunt, we were told to seat ourselves which we promptyly did as there were a few empty tables and booths. It took 10-15 minutes for our server to come and greet us and take our drink order. "Greeting" is a little bit strong of a description, as he just wandered over and ask for our drinks without so much of a hello. The food was very good and the prices were very reasonable. If it had not been for our server, I would have given this place a higher rating. It is typical cafe food but it is done well. It's a shame that they've got such poor service. While we hugrily waited, we watched the staff busy themselves with cleaining tables for a crowd that didn't exist, while ignoring diners (us) who were about to get up and leave...profit never realized. We unfortuanately had to be more direct with our server in order to get very basic service, which we don't like doing. Enjoy the food but don't expect much in the way of even basic service.
