After I moved out of Wyoming and my parent's house I usually made little point to go back and do it as seldom as possible. Even in a small town over the years changes happen whether they are welcomed or not. The so called nightlife at the town either consists of bar hopping, having benders at a friend's house or sneaking out to Saratoga Lake to get loaded. Very sad. One of these changes that happened was that the Whistle Pig opened up in town. It was your typical small town bar and for a very brief time they had strippers come to dance that traveled up to an hour away to perform in this town of all places. The local motel owners got wind that strippers were performing and they would tell the dancing girls after they were done performing and wanted a room for the night that they didn't have any when they really did. So the girls stopped coming. Since then the Whistle Pig went through a makeover and looks nice, new and clean which is an edge over the old bars in town because they all have a bunch of molting animal mounts and you don't know if you might get some mount in your drink. But who's counting when you chugged a bunch of cheap, corporate beers already? I was recently at the Whistle Pig for a high school class reunion. We had dinner elsewhere but came here for drinks. Overall the place isn't bad for such a small town to have. The stripper pole has been removed and everything looks wholesome. Every one was friendly and the patrons that started dancing were amusing to view with the ten gallon hats covering their faces completely. The visit was actually refreshing, the old school cliques were eroded and had begun to melt away and all of this was happening in this decent place but don't expect to have them a bunch of microbrews on tap. That is what the Greenies do! P.S. Greenies is an insulting term used by Wyoming people when referring to Colorado people when they come visiting their state. There is a rivalry that exists here but really what would Wyoming do without tourism? The Greenies are one of their biggest supporters! P.P.S. A Whistle Pig is not a pig. Pigs can't whistle. A Whistle Pig is a large rodent that is bigger than a gopher but much smaller than a beaver. I believe they are also called Marmots. Whistle Pigs don't actually whistle either. They emit a loud squeak or chirp to indicate to their companions a warning, danger or a concern. One always seems to be looking out for the others...but they do chirp if they are by themselves too.
