This is what Taco Bell could be if it tasted good. As fast food goes, this is pretty awesome. The grilled stuffed taco is terrific. Steer clear of the large size combos unless you need enough Potato Oles to feed a small country.

  • Jordan R.

Incorrect order, first time I only got my Mexican doughnuts, then when I went back in to say I was missing my combos I received the rest of my order. After I did this still no drinks, but didn't realize this till I had made it home. Some of the fiesta potatoes were cold and some were hot kinda odd. Wish the first time eating at a taco johns would have been better. Might try it again might not. There is also no dollar menu.

The service was friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the Potatoes Ole were tasty (if a whopping 460 calories for a small order), but those were the only good things about my experience. Mainly, the food sucks. I had a Taco Salad (substituting beans for meat), and it was nothing special. The salsa is gross. And the queso has meat in it, something I was not aware of. (The staff kindly made me a new order without meat when I asked for it.) Even without the meat, the queso was disgusting and no better than concession stand nacho sauce. Everything was also overpriced. I might stop by in the future to get more Potatoes Ole if I feel like making myself fatter. But otherwise I'll skip this place next time.

Not a fan. First time trying Taco Johns and I doubt I would ever eat at one again. I hate to say this so bluntly but the place is a dump. I had a taco an my shell was cold. Blah.

First time at taco johns. While the food isn't terrible, it is definitely not worth the price, in my opinion. I realize that this is just fast food joint, but I paid 10 bucks for a large burrito meal and it would have been good if it was 5 bucks. Other than that, the service was pretty slow, they had low 'stock' of condiments, utensils, no napkins, etc. I now kinda wish I went to McDonalds down the street...I may try Taco Johns again in my travels, but this was a bad first experience.

Well, I'm a South Texas girl and I know what REAL Mexican cuisine is. This is NOT it. Basically a watered down version of Taco Bell with hints of Taco Bueno....should have gone to Taco Bell which is just down the street. I suppose if you have NEVER had authentic Mexican food, don't know the deliciousness of cumin and cilantro and have not tasted real Verde sauce, you could choke this stuff down. The green "stuff" on the salsa bar was spicy for sure, but the flavor, which is far more important, was that of some chemical.....it tasted rancid. The red "house" salsa looked great, but was more like marinara. The beef taco salad was more salad than beef, though it was topped with shredded cheese, diced tomato, sour cream and black olives. The highlights of my meal: my fountain drink was good, the cheese sauce for my nachos was good, thank God there were jalapeños on the salsa bar, and the service itself was good. Nice people, mediocre (at BEST) food.

Great fast food Mexican. Taco John's locations can be hit or miss. This one is definitely a hit. Good service and good food.

It was pretty good. Wyoming is an odd place in general so to find ANY restaurants i suppose is a blessing but the food here was good. The service fast and friendly. Lots of parking(because Wyoming is one big dirt parking lot with elk.). The price was average for the food. Nothing stood out in any fantastical way but hey.......YOUR IN WYOMING!!!

  • Jeff H.

Slow service. Prices are way too high for fast food. $10.50 for a burrito and a taco. Not worth the price. Also, no napkins. Unfriendly staff. Wow! I am surprised they are even open. A redeeming factor: lots of meat on the tacos.

my 600th review (my 129th first review the first ever yelp review in this area!) day 21 of my nation wide yelp tour yelp.com/topic/pasadena-… how did it end up that at 600, its not a review of some prolific place, and its not even in la. but in a humble town in the middle of southern wyoming. (when you have listened to all your cds, got no one left to talk to on your phone, and done everything you can to stay awake, where does your mind wonder when you have depleted everything?) its the only mexican restaurant in rawlins. and its a fast food joint. it only exists in wyoming i think. the inside looks just like taco bell. (i think eventually we all get to a position zero. i am coming to it, i am sure kerouac, kuralt, emerson, huck finn, all came to it as well) not only that they also stole the mexi nuggets from taco bell. mexi nuggets are like tater tots but its flat and circular and spiced. its super tasty. the food here is actually better than taco bell. and their specialty is meat and potato tacos and burrito. when you talk meat and potato, you are speaking my language. it aint spanish its universal. (first you think about all the things people did to wrong you. when you run out of those things, you think about all the things you have ever done to wrong others and yourself. you wonder can you ever forgive, and you wonder can you ever be forgiven?) they also have free wi fi here. very unusual but very cool! another weird thing is this is the only mexican restaurant i have ever seen with a ketchup dispenser and tons of ketchup packets. i even saw a dude in a cowboy had dip his taco in ketchup. wtf??? and they were all out of hot sauce. double wtf??? (you think about the what ifs. what if you fought harder to keep that one thing, or if you had done that one thing differently, where would you be now? happier? then you realize you are just breaking yourself down completely to absolutely nothing. where there isn't much left of you. that all the stuff you carry is so small and petty. then you wonder if anyone is listening to your thoughts?) some girls came in. it was strange they looked like cowgirlish but wore ugg boots. one of them kept staring at me. i think she's never seen a scruffy asian dude with a lap top at taco john's before. but another musing, if its mexican, shouldn't it be taco juan? i have a hunch a hispanic person didn't create this chain. (and all this seems so familiar. like deja vu. like you dreamt all this previously, even typing this) my crunchy chicken and potato burrito was good. but the nuggets were my favorite. there were icicles forming on my car. believe it or not the wiper fluid was completely frozen! (your thoughts you realize now are no longer thoughts but actually prayers. you begin to pray aloud as the snow storm comes. where you can't see one foot in front of you. where your headlights reflect the swirling snow and makes you dizzy. where you cant see the road to pull over. where its completely dark and you are lost and alone. where it looks like this: static.px.yelp.com/photo… cept much darker. you think about the last time you drove in snow and spun out and almost died in that river bank...) yelp has come to wyoming! the town reminds me of the town in the movie "footloose" with kevin bacon for some reason. (you think about being stranded in this would mean life or death because its freezing, and so much snow no one would ever see your car and impossible to try to walk anywhere) they even had a drive through and of course everyone working there was a high school kid with acne. (then you pop in that matt maher cd the girl you only remember as being the little kid back in your church in your hometown, who is no longer a kid but a grown woman. and you ask God to get you through this to write review #601 and to make it to day 22 of your trip. and you do. you do make it. but this time i am more appreciative than i have been in a long time. before you ask, let me ask before you cuz everyone is asking. why am i doing this? somehow my fun road trip is turning into a sabbatical. i just wanted to see what i can see i guess. to have more insight than i did before. to realize i know even less than i thought. that this world is not so small after all. its huge! because i wasn't as sure of what i would do with myself as a i was a couple years before and all the things that bother me seem insignificant. things i do care about right now is how my parents are doing with the flu?) and you realize number 600 was always meant to be at taco johns. because that's exactly how it happened. and there will be yelp 700 some day and that this trip will eventually end... (where in the world is carmen samdiego?) also on the road you muse about why there is never any paper towels in the bathroom!

Our road trip took us here.... well.. actually, thankfully not the only reason why we were here. .. we ran out of ideas and choices to eat at. Rawlins is a tiny town to begin with.. face it, there aren't very many options to eat around here. Taco Johns sound like taco bell, so we went in. Actually it does look alot like Taco bell! Except the menu is not familiar since they have some unique items taco bell does not carry. My favorite is the tator tots. We ordered a burritto and some hard tacos. Meal was good overall. Pricing however, I think its a bit more expensive than taco bell. However, for what we got, I think it was well worth the stop to try it out. Service is not bad at all. Free drink refills and clean dinning areas. Freezing out cold the day we were there-- we had ice on our windshields and dense fog all over, like I've never seen before....so bad that we can't see more than 2 car spaces in front of us. IF I live here in Rawlins.. I guess I would surely come back again. They provided us warmth and a good meal !

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
