It was ok. I was feeding three teenage boys and a husband, so they weren't too picky. The steak and eggs my husband ordered had no seasoning. However, he declared the potatoes to be "bad ass." The boys had chicken fried steak and eggs. They cleared their plates but felt it was "average". The atmosphere is fine; kind of cheesy country. We left full, which was the goal.

I ordered the fajitas - the sides were good. The steak itself tasted cheap and like it had been sitting around for a while. The guy at the counter wasn't very interested. He stared at my bill to make sure I gave a good tip! The service by the waitresses was good, so I would have tipped well anyway! Everything was over salted!! The decor was strange.

Food - 4 Service - 4 Value - 5 A great way to start a day with a meal here -- be sure to get here before 8:30 AM or you'll have to wait. My wife ordered the Deuce (French Toast) and I got the Deuce (Hotcakes) and both were really good and came with 2 eggs and a choice of bacon or sausage (we got the bacon). They have us lots of nice crispy bacon!

Really fresh ingredients! All I got was ham and poached eggs, but it was delicious. My dad said his omelet was the best he's had on our trip so far, and we've driven from NY to WY, so good job! I'm giving it 4/5 stars because I thought it was a tad expensive for what was on my plate.

Good food, great service! Definitely worth the visit! The Christies omelet was fresh and flavorful.

Old restaurant. Has been here a while. I think associated with the lodge next to it. We stopped here for breakfast. Think truck stop or diner. At one table sat what I think were a bunch of older locals, ordering just enough so that the establishment stayed happy with them. Met her every day? Or perhaps once a week? Basic menu, a fair number of selections. The food was pretty basic. Big Portions. They don't skimp. Again, the fare offered was pretty basic stuff. Prepared well enough, but nothing special. But also, not particularly expensive. One big room. Could get pretty noisy if there were a bunch of people in there. Acceptable if you are looking for a basic breakfast at a reasonable price.

Good breakfast. Seated our large party without an excessive wait on a busy morning. Had a nicely varied menu. The food was good. The potatoes were a little bland. The food arrived very quickly. All in all, a good place with decent value for breakfast.

  • April H.

The menu was simple and had just what we wanted. Easy breakfast for our family, we did have to wait 20 min for a table but it was worth it. This is a no frills diner.

  • Lori G.

Cute small family place. The pancakes and biscuits were excellent! In and out fast, even though there was a wait. Perfect start to the visit to Grand Teton Patk. Easy access in and out.

Locals abound here great prices, but it feels right too great service colorful clientele super pancakes get the D#2!

Late Breakfast! They serve their egg dishes thru lunch. Breakfast is the best meal of the day, no matter when it's serves. These guys do OK. Kinda quiet during the off season. This place is mobbed in the summer. That's why I haven't reviewed/checked-in in the past. Lot's of wood paneling and western decor. Decent amount of menu choices. Hearty stick to your ribs fare. Friendly staff.

  • Frank R.

Friendly, fast and homey even though its summer time in the park. Great breakfast place!

  • Lala P.

The wait on a busy day was around 20-30 minutes and the food was good. Portions were big and prices were very reasonable, I was only able to finish half of my meal. Lots of other people posted about the french toast being great...maybe they were just hungry because I found them to be okay.

    (3)
  • Deborah S.

My husband and I, with our 4 kids, had the most amazing breakfast!! The wait was only about 10 minutes to be seated, the staff were friendly and kind. When we were served EVERYTHING was delicious!! We would HIGHLY recommend The Virginian

It's our first time visiting to see Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Stumbled upon this busy restaurant for breakfast and so happy that we did! Big portions and great food!!! Nice environment and quick service! I would definitely come here again. Price is reasonable as well which is a plus!

  • Linda B.

The food coming out looked great! However, after waiting 20 minutes to be seated and another 35 for food that never came, we bailed. Two tables that were seated long after we ordered had gotten their breakfasts. No apology, no follow up, just blank stares. Server was pleasant, tho.

Visited 6 mornings in july of 2015. The staff was friendly and efficient. The food was great. They really cater to customers. The portions were large and the food was tasty. The omlettes were especially good.there was a small wait time to get a table but it was worth the wait.

  • D C.

If you're looking for no-frills dining, but good food with large servings, this restaurant is the place. On a July, Tuesday morning at 10:45 am, we still had to wait about 25 minutes to be seated, but they had a comfortable bench inside and some tables outside to wait. Good, American food.

This was a first time eating here... Fast and friendly service!! They always make sure your water is topped off and they constantly check on you. I had french toast, eggs, and sausage and it was delicious!! The atmosphere was great and staff always had a smile on their face!! Great breakfast stop!!

  • Tony S.

Wasn't very impressed. My steak, that I ordered medium, came out cold. When I sent it back, they recooked it & it came back well done. At least it wasn't cold anymore... Everyone else in our party said their food was just ok. To have 4 stars on Yelp, I expect more. Maybe we just came on an "off" day?

    (2)
  • Brice D.

I don't get the opportunity to eat here often enough! We brought friends from out of town and even though its been months since I've been in, the majority of the staff knew who I was and was more than welcoming! Food was good and hot, just like it normally is. A few special requests were easily met and of course the price was just about right. Good place and because of the quality of the food and service, we'll gladly spend more money with these folks the next time we eat breakfast out!

    (3)
  • Jeff J.

Food was OK. The service was slow to start and fairly unfriendly. The best part was price. If you're tight on cash give this place a go but I'll be going else where next time I'm in Jackson.

    (2)
  • Dana Z.

I must admit. I expected better, really I did. The reviews were good the place looked solid. The food was meh. I almost forgot I even went there, that is truly how underwhelming it was. Super diner food, nothing special. But they do have large portions, reasonable prices and the service was right on top of things. So if you want feeder food without foodie standards, this is your match made in heaven. It was just a disappointment in a town that could be so great.

  • Kassie H.

In need of some home cookin? This is your place! This is my "go to" for some delicious comfort food! Service is delightful as is the food! This place is definitely a locals favorite!

The best breakfast in town! We were in town on the tail end of our honeymoon and decided to stop here based on Yelp reviews. Boy, are we happy we did! For starters, it was a rainy Labor Day morning about 9:30am, prime time. The line was out the door and they said the wait was 20mins. We decided to wait, and looking back we would have waited twice as long for this meal! Almost exactly 20mins later, we were seated by a very friendly and upbeat hostess. She even asked if it was 20mins to make sure they were on track! The service was amazing. Yolanda was our waitress and she was phenomenal. Always making sure the coffee was topped off, letting us know when our food would be up, and checking in throughout the meal to see how everything was and if we needed anything else. As busy as she was, she always had a smile and we never felt like an inconvenience! I had the Country Fried Steak for $10.75. It was a big steak, amazing, covered in a thick country chunky sausage gravy... Just how I like it! This meal also comes with two eggs (cooked to perfection), hash browns (more like scalloped potatoes - fresh, light and delicious, not greasy at all), and toast - I chose an English muffin. My husband had the "Deuce #2" for $8.25: 2 giant fluffy pancakes, two eggs and choice of bacon/sausage. It was also delicious. We also shared an order of biscuits & gravy for a mere $5.25 and they were the best I've ever had! Top it off with two fresh squeezed OJs and a coffee and we were in heaven. So much food we couldn't finish it all. Total bill was $32.60 - worth every penny! We will definitely be back, maybe even on this trip (lol) and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone/everyone who is reading this. Great find!!!

We stopped here because it looked really busy so must be good. Not to mention yelp had good reviews. It was a great decision!! Awesome food, supper friendly service and they had no issues making a few changes on a really busy Sunday morning to meet dietary needs. AND not expensive, which was a nice change for a resort area. This is an absolute do over

  • Sherry E.

Breakfast was ice cold except for the bacon. Save yourself and go somewhere else! We ordered biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, toast and potatoes. Potatoes were not done, gravy was from a mix,..... All in all, worst meal in Jackson. We ate the toast and bacon and that was it!

    (1)
  • Mike K.

Food was really good. We had the biscuits and gravy and they were amazing. Also had an omelet and the ranch dish. We didn't wait that long to get a table. On busy days the food takes a bit longer but the food is worth it. If you like good old fashioned breakfast and company this place is for you.

I love breakfast- and this place doesn't disappoint. You know when it's packed and there's a line- the food must be good! After about a ten minute wait, the food was quick, the staff was friendly, the food was good, and the food was recently priced! 5 stars!

  • Jeff S.

Wasn't expecting such great food and service for breakfast but that's what we got. Can't comment about anything other than breakfast. Worth a visit.

Food was ok. Bacon was like eating a brick. Very hard and dried out. Service was ok but not really great. My sandwich came out so fast it made me think that it was already made. Prices were ok for lunch.

  • Matt G.

All around great breakfast experience!!!! Friendly customer service and quality food! Big portions and very reasonable prices, considering it is Jackson Hole! Don't hesitate to give them a try! You won't leave hungry!

  • Rahil R.

Great service. Very attentive. The corned beef and hash I had was amazing (homemade and dry, but in a good way). They also have a lot of onions on it so if you like that like i do, you'll love this. They will customize it for you anyway. So just ask! The wife enjoyed the biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were fantastic!

    (5)
  • Michael V.

My friend and I ate breakfast here twice. It's just a basic, country-type place. Very simple, but the food is tasty and the service is really friendly. I would definitely go back again, if I were in Jackson.

Great food and nice environment!!! Finally got some nice coffee those days, classical American breakfast, enough amount. Home made biscuit with sausage gravy tests super good. The biscuit is the best I have ever tried! Gonna come by tmr too~~~

$10 for coffee and breakfast. Good food at a fair price which is saying something for Jackson. Customer service is excellent. They are very attentive.

After a long day in Yellowstone, we thought we'd stop in for a late dinner at the Virginian Restaurant. I called to make sure they were open and to make sure they could accommodate a party of 8 coming at that time. He said it was fine. I'm not sure if it was because it was late or if it's just that breakfast is "their thing", but our dinner was horrible. There were 8 in our party (4 adult and 4 kids). My husband was the only one who liked their dinner (he had a reuben sandwich). Two of us had chicken fried steak and -- not joking -- it truly tasted like something from a school cafeteria. It was frozen from a box and tough. My baked potato was hard and my vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots) were cold. One person ordered the carne asada. It came out pretty rare and he asked if they could cook it just a little longer. They did -- and he said it tasted a little better -- but it still wasn't good. Two of the kids had corn dogs and they both said they weren't very good because they were not completely done. These are two little boys who have never met a corn dog they didn't like. The other two kids had chicken strips and said they were just okay. It was $90 horribly spent. The kids were originally begging for McDonald's, but we told them no repeatedly. After leaving the restaurant, we admitted that McDonald's would have been better. Much better. Very disappointed.

There are not too many options for breakfast in Jackson and this is the place to go. The two times we went there they had a slight wait, but everybody works very efficiently and we were seated quickly. They have a fairly diverse menu including homemade corn beef hash which you can't hardly get anywhere these days. I eat breakfast in a restaurant 360 days a year and this one rates right at the top. There were several locals and regulars in the restaurant both mornings we were there and that is usually a pretty positive indicator.

Great breakfast! From the breakfast potatoes to all the hot sauce choices. Yummy!!! Met right away by a friendly hostess w hot coffee in hand and ready to serve! Friendly and helpful waitress. Definitely on our return trip radar!

Good Breakfast. Better than Denny's, not as good as some other joints in the area, but the price was right and it seems more... Jackson Hole'y. We were in the mood for a solid cowboy-style posh-less breakfast. We found it... that's a good thing.

Vacationing, we ate there late after a long hike at nearby Grand Teton. I had the beef fajita salad and liked it very much, the beef was so tender and v ery tasty, although admittedly I only picked at the lettuce and ate only the beef, peppers and onions which were plentiful. My son had the carne asada meal which was huge and delicious as stated by him. My husband had the chili which was very tasty as I sampled it, as was the accompanying roll. He also had the French dip which he said was just ok, no cheese. Our service was great and the prices were average not overpriced at all, except for the soda but maybe I'm just used to fast food drink prices.

Had the split pea soup and cold meatloaf sandwich today. This is the kind of food I grew up on and let me tell you this was really good, just like Mom made. The service was also good, two minutes elapsed from the time I placed my order to receiving my meal. The server, Cindy, did a great job.

Don't expect anything fancy. Simple, delicious American cuisine at a good price. Owned and operated by the same folks for years.

I was looking for the local diner experience, and this place definitely suits the bill. I ordered the prime rib ($20, available Fri/Sat only), and my wife went with meatloaf ($12). Diner comes with a biscuit, potatoes/fries, and veggies so there is more than enough food. The food was good, not great, but good. Service is excellent and in that down home friendly style. Tip: the restaurant does not serve alcohol, but there is a bar in the hotel on the other side of the parking lot.

    (3)
  • Michael K.

Great menu and service. Food was very tasty. A "local" joint for sure where many of the patrons were greeted as friends with hugs and their favorite drink in hand. Neat place!

This is a review for the restaurant, not the bar. This is where the true locals consistently go for breakfast and lunch year-round. (My Uncle is here twice a day almost everyday of the week!) When LeJay's closed down many years ago, The Virginian became the new hang out and lunch spot for local guys who work hard outside. It is far from fancy and sometimes there is a wait in the summer, but the food hits the spot and is a great value. Yeah, the food is kind of on the heavy side but I think that's how a place like this should be - and if you're so concerned you can substitute something I'm sure. Most of their baked goods are made from scratch daily, both the french toast and flapjacks are HUGE and really yummy. My husband always orders "Josh's French Dip" at lunch, I think it's a traditional French Dip but with bacon and mushrooms. Lunch specials are always a big hit it seems. They are open for dinner only in the summer, but I haven't had dinner here in long time. It's just not a dinner place to me. Just a note for the tourists, The Bunnery is NOT the only place that serves breakfast in Jackson. That place is beyond hyped up. Give the Virg a go!

Hearty american food. Fast and filling, not fancy.

This is for the Restaurant (where you get food not booze) next to the virg bar. The most reliable food around. I go here for breakfast / lunch.

After getting up from a chilly night. We were welcomed by a nice aroma of coffee and food as we entered. Their place was packed and the food looked good from what we could see as we walked to our table. Lots of eye candy. it was enjoyed by all. The French toast was good, but the corn beef hash was over powered by the onion. (in fact it gave me colon blow later that day). I enjoy the serves and the selections of food. Price is reasonable.

We visit this restaurant after 3-day in Yellowstone. The food is Wyoming style, at least the size. Good food in large portion. Wife ordered a cinnamon bun and thought she can keep her diet. It turns out to be the largest cinnamon bun she ever have. We help to finish it as lunch.

Great place to have breakfast. Their home fries are yummy and remind me of the good diners in NJ where I used to live. You won't go away hungry. We went there 2 days in a row when we stayed in Jackson (wish we had gone there all 3 days). Both days I had the Chrisi omelet (feta, mushrooms and spinach with 3 eggs, home fries and a biscuit), my husband had steak and eggs with a biscuit day one and a pancake, egg and sausage with a biscuit the second day. We did not feel hungry until dinner (b-fast at 9 AM). We highly recommend The Virginian for breakfast when visiting Jackson.

This place was great. Great tasting breakfast food, mediocre coffee brew, & large portions for a great price. Def worth a stop in!

  • Mike N.

A friend of ours that lives in Jackson brought us here for some local flavor and some cheap beers. The "Virge" delivers on both counts plus free popcorn. Very cool place but if you're looking for fancy or used to the 4 seasons, then skip it.

    (4)
  • sharon g.

Definitely the feel of a hometown hangout. Many people looked to be locals with tourists mixed in at out early breakfast. My flapjacks were the best I've had in a long time and the sausages cooked just as ordered. Waitress returned often for coffee refills. Prices better than most in Jackson.

    (4)
  • kevin g.

The Virg is a classic All American Breakfast. Although a bit on the heavy side (as are most of the local customers) the food was adequate and the service was friendly.

  • Nick D.

Looking for a cowboy bar in Jackson? The Virginian has you covered. It's like the Silver Dollar but much rougher and truer to its roots. You'll find everything here, local brews and lots of local ranchers and the like. Don't get caught here looking like a tourist, you're bound to wind up on the floor or in a brawl. It doesn't get much more authentic!
