With all the attention paid to the sister property--Million Dollar Cowboy Bar--I am afraid that this wonderful Steakhouse might be possibly overlooked. And that would be a shame as the food here is about as wonderful as the stiff drinks at the famed cowboy-saddled seat bar. Despite some claims that The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar/ Steakhouse is a tourist mecca, many locals also feel that it might also be Jackson's best-kept secret! According to the Steakhouse website, the restaurant is "located in one of the oldest buildings in Jackson Hole (circa 1890), and the Steakhouse originally opened in the basement of the historic Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in 1995." There is not a faux western feel to the place--it is the real deal with walls covered in beautiful Wyoming knobby pine. A collection of memorabilia of western art, faded, grainy photos and cowboy heritage adorns the rustic walls. The Steakhouse serves Double R Ranch beef and look out because here you will find cuts of regional game from Prairie Harvest that abounds in the area--bison, elk and other rare game. For the seafood lover, the eatery offers (expensive) FRESH FISH that is flown in daily from Hawaii I did take a bite of bacon-wrapped Elk from my friend's plate but felt bad since I just passed the Elk Preserve on my way into town. The truffled Mac N Cheese was spectacular and there is a kids menu for the little ones. An elevator in the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar upstairs will get you up or downstairs, if you have trouble with accessibility. There is even a bar in the restaurant if the rambunctious scene at the noisy Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is a little too much action for you. When you eat at the Steakhouse, get your hand stamped, because then the cover charge to get into the Bar upstairs is waived. Be aware that this restaurant opens nightly at 5:30 p.m. 5 YELP STARS for authentic western wonderfulness.
