Gillette, WY: Amazingly good and freshly made! The bright artwork of the tables and chairs, along with the star lanterns presented a beautifully festive setting for a late dinner. Half the restaurant's tables were filled with diners. Our #6, Two Tacos, and #7, Chimichanga (beef, sour cream on side) arrived in a very timely manner and very freshly made. No chewy tortillas or hard, fried Chimichanga skin. It was a touch spicier for me but tasty nonetheless. Chips were crispy and warm but the salsa was mild, almost meh because it was so watery. Our server, who spoke with a strong Spanish accent, graciously responded to my questions about the dining room furnishings. He shared that the brightly decorated chairs and tables are representative of Guadalajara, Mexico, as is the style of cooking at the restaurant. Wish they were closer to home. We have dined in numerous Southwest and Southern California Mexican restaurants and would stop back here.

Absolute worse Mexican food I've ever had. Cook made kids tacos spicy. Had to return them and ordered chicken tacos that they poured canned tomato sauce over with yellow American cheese on it! Taco Bell would have been better. My enchiladas were smothered with American cheese. Just so disappointing. Gave 1 star just because servers were so nice. Food no Bueno.

Their chicken chimichanga is my go-to for lunch or dinner. Huge portions of food and refills of salsa and chips. The service is fast and the staff are always friendly. They are more than accommodating when it comes to serving large groups.

First off I live in Phoenix where there are some amazing Mexican restaurants and travel throughout Texas and California for work. If this restaurant was in the southwest it would be out of business within a few months. The food had no flavor and I would go to Taco Bell or Taco Johns before I go back here. Overall the service was good so I am giving it 2 stars.

Went in on a Sunday night after leaving another local restaurant in disgust. Small place that gets busy quickly, but we were seated quickly and a server took a drink/appetizer order within a minute. I ordered an unusual menu item that took longer preparation time than I'd have expected; but more importantly, my wife's nice and easy order of tacos came out just as hot as my entree when the food arrived. Server was courteous and attentive despite having his hands full with his other tables and helping others set up for parties and such. Good food, good service, good prices.

Fantastic Mexican food--the quesadilla alambre and cheese enchiladas are a particular favorite. The queso fundido with chorizo is outstanding. Always impressed by their service--very friendly staff.

Decent food but lacking service. We had to wait a while for our order and then received no further attention from the wait staff.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Gillette. The food is delicious, the service is great and the Original Margarita is top notch. The staff is always friendly.

Awesome food and service. Best mexican food in town. Small but if you have to wait it's not more then 10 minutes. Fajitas and crab meat enchilada are awesome.

We were just passing through on a roadtrip and yelp led us here on Cinco de Mayo. Lucky us because they were the nicest people and the party was on! The food was awesome! Love the beans! And we had the gigantic margeronas. Yum! Good food, good people.

This place pretty much sucked I'm giving it two stars for service. There's nothing authentic about this place. Everything seems to be processed store bought crap. The chips and tortilla from a bag. There are much better Mexican restaurants to eat at. I will say, even though the Mexican food was a joke the service was great.

Love their food -- especially the Fajitas and Enchiladas Suiza. The margaritas are fabulous, as well!

We stopped here because TripAdvisor deemed this place #1 of 24 restaurants in Gillette, Wyoming. The food was strictly ok. Not bad, but not awesome either. The chips and salsa were servicable. I ordered the carne asada at the suggestion of the waitress. It was actually very good, and cooked to my specifications. The rice was ... well, just rice. It's kinda hard to make rice sexy. The beans has a thin, almost soupy consistency and were WAY too salty. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. My biggest beef was that the place wasn't all that clean. I'm not a neat freak or anything, but I don't expect dirty bathrooms, nor do I expect to see small piles of clutter tucked into corners. Would I stop here again? Yeah, maybe. If this place is #1, I would sure as hell hate to see what the other 23 are like.

I've been in this neck of the woods for business a few times. I tend to seek out what I truly miss from the mecca of south "o" the boarder food. My dining divining rod of choice is carne asada, and the salsa. They have it with the steak, the salsa is milder than most. Pre-made flour tortilla's, how about "las tortillas de maíz"! Check it out gringos of WY! Well recommended stop for food!!!!

Both my wife and I really liked the food here. She prefers authentic and felt it was that, although more cheese than they would use in Mexico. (Is that bad? I don't think so!) I had a Chimichanga, which was really good. The place fills up, so I'd recommend getting there early. We arrived a bit later, which also works. Enjoy!

Pretty good food, the building is a little run down though. The prices are right on, and the proportions are perfect. The staff were very courteous. I would eat here again if in the area. Decent menu selections.

Chips and salsa were excellent. However, the spinach enchilada could be less watery or drippy in my own opinion. Therefore I recommend the fajitas more so than the enchiladas though. The wait staff speak excellent Espanol so this is one way to get some practice in.

I am baffled by the reviews from other California/Southwest Yelpers, particularly those from Southern California. Where on earth are they eating Mexican food that Los Compadres is three or four stars?? In San Diego, you only have to go to the local taco shop for better Mexican food. So first of all, the margaritas are clearly made with cheap mix. I got the regular margarita, which came in a large glass but just tasted like bottled lemonade. Someone else in our party got a Top Shelf margarita, which pretty much tasted the same. The salsa was decent, but I imagine the chips are ordered in bulk from a store. Usually, I overdo the chips and salsa, but that was not a problem because the chips were not good. For dinner, I got the enchiladas suizas, which were actually quite good. The sauce was tasty and the enchiladas were stuffed with chicken. However, I have never seen refried beans so runny that I couldn't even pick them up with a fork. There was literally water pooling on my plate from the beans. The rice was bland and sticky (maybe the rice is for sopping up the beans). And there was a weird "Mexican coleslaw" served on the side. I honestly have no idea what that was made from and I've never seen it before. Someone in our group ordered the vegetable fajitas and we were all amused to see PEAS AND CARROTS in the fajitas. What??? I've never even SEEN Mexican food with peas and carrots in it, let alone peas and carrots fajitas. The flour tortillas served with the fajitas were clearly a package of store bought tortillas. I'm pretty sure they put the entire package in the tortilla warmer, too. I mean, there were about a dozen tortillas in there! So if you're craving Mexican food and end up at Los Compadres, order a beer rather than a margarita, get a meat entree, and substitute the black beans for refried beans.

We have several excellent Mexican restaurants in Fresno, Cali. but Los Compadres is one of the best I've had the privilege of dining at. And here it was in the middle of the USA!! The Pollo en Mole was far out and too much to eat but I had to polish it off because it was so tasty! The place was absolutely crowded but the service was mui friendly and quick. The salsa was bueno as were the chips. This coal town is blessed to have God's bounty in its midst!! (Dined here 6/8/13)

This place wasn't bad at all. We were passing through town and it was right across the street from our hotel, so we could walk to dinner. Started out with the requisite nachos & salsa. We got margaritas. I got the regular one and DH got a fancy one, but mine was better (his was too sweet) so he switched with his second one. I had a chicken & a piccadillo enchilada; normally, I like chicken anything better, but the beef was really good and I preferred it. Can't remem now what DH got, but we enjoyed the meal and were happy to find this place in our travels. The young waiter was a little distracted; couldn't seem to make eye contact with us, but gazed out the window as he or we spoke. However, he did manage to engage with customers who were young, beautiful and female such as the one sitting in the booth next to us. Hahaha! Maybe he's dreaming about hitting that Interstate outside the windows and getting out of Gillette someday.

Best Mexican food in Gillette. Comparable to Las Margaritas just slightly better. Restaurant is small, which gives it that "hole in the wall" vibe, and at least for me, the small little restaurants are where some of the best food is. However with a small restaurant also comes a wait - not bad in warm months, in fact they just added some nice outdoor seating. But you don't want to be waiting outside in the winter in Gillette. The atmosphere is cozy and typical Mexican restaurant vibe, casual for sure. With painted walls, fake parrots, Corona banners hanging from the ceiling. The food is great with nice portions for a decent price. Everything we have had from there has been excellent. Our favorites are Taco's Al Carbon (Seriously our fav), Fajitas, Seafood Enchiladas and Chile Rellenos. And their burritos are huge! Los Compadres is only what I would call semi family friendly. The restaurant feels a little squished for those with a child in a high chair or car-seat. But for older kids who can entertain themselves (no crayons provided) the children's menu works. My 7 year old son loves their enchiladas while the other kids always order a grilled cheese (comes with fries which are the best in town as far as French fries go!) Service - SUPERB - seriously the wait staff hustle. They are constantly moving refilling drinks, bringing food, chips, salsa. (and the male waiters are easy on the eyes - wink wink) Overall I give this restaurant a 4 star review. I would give it 5 but I think their restaurant is a bit on the small side and like I said waiting outside in the winter is a big time bummer.

Have to say this is a little gem in this small town. The food was good and the service was fast and friendly.

Ok Mexican food but I have had better. I am really picky when it comes to Mexican food and that can be both a curse and a blessing. I will say that the service was fast, friendly and the chips and salsa were tasty. The meal itself was pretty good. I had an enchilada and a taco. I liked the taco better because it was big and had some of that spicy slaw which was so very yummy. Where I am from places don't put this slaw in the meal. A Northern Wyoming thing perhaps? If so I approve on that avenue.

Food was just ok, beans were soupy, and the chicken in the burrito tasted canned, edible, but nothing special. I agree with one of the previous reviews, I hate to see what the other 23 restaurants are like.

I worked in Gillette for a fortnight, so I got to experience a number of their local eateries. Los Compadres was an easy choice to top of my list of places to eat in Gillette. The dining room is small but the service is quick, friendly and attentive. I have enjoyed two meals there. I have had their two enchilada and a taco meal selecting a chicken and a cheese enchilada, and also enjoyed their Carne Asada flank steak meal. Both meals were very good. The chicken enchilada was well seasoned, tender and moist; the cheese enchilada was well seasoned. The carne asada flank steak was very tender and the seasoning and flame broiling provided a superb Mexican dining experience. The side dishes provided with both meals were authentic Mexican side dishes, well prepared, presented and enhanced the main dish. The interior is a little on the worn side but the overall experience is a solid 4 stars, I'm giving it 5 to even out the lower ratings that don't match their review. If you like Mexican food, and you are in Gillette this is the must stop. Over all the best restaurant for food quality, quantity, price, and taste in Gillette.

Pretty good Mexican food for a small town like this, and the guys that run it are very friendly and very helpful. We eat here about once a month and haven't had anything to complain about.

This is a great Mexican place, and it's kind of a surprise that Gillette can have a place this good. I would normally recommend one or two dishes in a review, but everything I've had here is good, and I especially like the lunch menu because it is a pretty good value for the food you get. It's small and busy at lunch and dinner hours, but worth the wait. The staff is helpful, friendly, and competent, and the owners, Omar and Armando, are friendly and always out interacting with customers.

If you want real Mexican, this is the place. Really small inside so there will be a wait for major dinner hours. Worth it though!

Great food, super helpful service. Last night, I saw four waiters working together to try and figure out the type of salad a woman had ordered last time, because she'd forgotten what it was called. The margaritas I've seen are big, and the burritos even bigger. One of those is always two dinners for me.

Nice guys, good food. Very similar menu to Las Margaritas, but the lunch burritos are a steal! The burritos are enormous and are my favorite.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
