AWFUL food, and we will never eat there again! My husband and I ordered two 16 oz sirloins, and the waitress put in the wrong steak order, so we ended up with two 12 oz rib eyes for almost the same price. The steaks were tender, but they were super thin steaks, unlike the thick steaks we always get at Outback and other steak restaurants. The mashed potatoes that came with the dinner were cold. I had to ask them to heat them up! By the time she brought them back, I had eaten my steak and did not want the potatoes...just the thought of cold food turned me off. My teen daughter ordered mac and cheese and could not eat it. This is the first time she has ever rejected her favorite dish. She also ordered the appetizer bruchetta toast, where melted cheese is on top of toast with tomatoes on the side. The cheese and toast were cold, too! She ended up not eating at all. We had asked for more muffins, but they never arrived. The service was terrible and slow. We complained to the waitress, and the manager knocked off $10. So, our steep $65 bill came to $55...yet it was a complete waste for the money. I am guessing they prepare the food (potatoes and appetizers) and heat as they need, thus why the potatoes and bruchetta toast came to our table cold. They charge over a dollar extra to add sour cream and onions to the potatoes that come with your steak! The steaks are not the ounces they advertise on the menu, either. I suggest go to the Outback restaurant in Cheyenne...they have GREAT food, thick steaks, and you do not have to pay extra for sour cream and onions on your potatoes! Their food is always hot and fresh! Also we found it sad that the manager did not come to our table when we complained. No wonder the place was empty at 6 pm.

I was visiting my son stationed at the AFB in Cheyenne and offered to take the whole crew out for steaks for dinner. After much internal debate they suggested Steamboat's. The street impression is a programmed corporate franchise chain, though the guys said it was local. I don't believe it. Inside, it still looked kitschy tourist-corporate. It's a restaurant-bar. For our group of 7 we were told the first available seating was on the patio. Nice evening, clear skies, possibly rowdy airmen, so why not? Well, because two of the party were under 21, they had us all march outside to the street and walk the entire length of the building to the outside patio seating to be then be seated right in front of the door that accesses the patio from inside the building. WTF??? Did they think that one of these upstanding young citizens would steal someone's damn drink? Service was slow and chatty, though the waitress was a decent soul. Food was good and steaks were well prepared and reasonable. And the boys were all gentlemen to boot! Our entire meal for 7 adults with drinks, steaks, salmon, appetizers, etc. came to $146, without tip. Not a bad deal in my opinion. Maybe if they'd not made us do the perp walk down the street, I'd give them higher marks, but that really made a bad impression with me regarding customer service and attitude.

Food is mediocre-service is typical of Cheyenne. We sat at the bar once and received better service there than the dining area. Management clearly does not have a clue--particularly the general manager who walks around not knowing what to do accept drink a red bull in the dining area. Steak was overcooked and we sent it back (for a 20 dollar steak, you would too!) and were made to feel like we needed to be educated on how steak should be ordered. I've worked in food service for several years--this place needs major improvements. We've learned our lesson and won't be back.

What a great place! The food was outstanding. I ordered the blackened baseball cut steak. Extremely tender and very flavorful. My wife ordered the porkie which was also outstanding. Be sure you make room for their bread pudding. Our server; Jaime was the best. This guy should be placed in management!

The waitress was friendly and the cornbread muffins were good. The wedge salad went well with my scallop mac and cheese. Lunch was a quick in and out.

My husband and I had dinner at this place tonight. It was our first time and we had a great experience. When we arrived we had to wait 5 minutes for a table to be available. We didn't mind the wait. Our server was great! The food was delicious! Both of us are vegetarians..so we got seafood plates. The trout and shrimp were perfect. For appetizers we got onion rings and crab cakes. They were good too! Also, the drinks were delicious..my husband got a beer and I got the Wyoming Dust Devil (Pina Colada with a Strawberry Twist). We will definitely return!

We decided to go to Steamboat last night after not visiting for 4 months because of our last visit. Hoping to have a better visit this time we were thoroughly disappointed! This visit was worse than the last! Tre our waiter was horrible! The only highlight was that my girlfriends steak was cooked correctly! The sauce on my brisket overwhelmed the taste of the meat. Supposedly suppose to be served on a piece of toast but what came out looked like a cracker. The fries were cold and overcooked. The side portions were on the light side and our waiter forgot our salad and chili 3 times before we had to contact a manager. Though the manager made attempts to correct the problem it was too little too late! If I could give a rating less than one star I would! With appearance and the atmosphere you would expect to have a great dining experience! Not the case at all! Next time I will go to the Chop House, Texas Roadhouse or Outback! Horrible service!!!

Since we weren't from around here we ate at Texas Roadhouse the night before. Steamboat beat Texas Roadhouse hands down on steak quality/flavor and was more affordable also. If you're in the mood for Steak definitely try this local place.

Three stars because they have an awesome selection of beer on tap and the service (this trip) has been great! But the food is over salted, over buttered and over sugared (sweet potatoes). They seem to think if a little is good, then a lot is better. Fail! We will likely come back because of the aforementioned beer and service but will be much wiser on food choices.

Looking for some BBQ during the stay and the folks mentioned this Steamboat place. Well really wasn't too enthused with a steakhouse/bbq joint so didn't get my hopes up too much. As suspected, quite lite on the bbq, not to mention sauce on the side seems new to them. Well I ordered the Stampede w/smashed fries. The sandwich came out opened faced with a group of meat and fixings on top. Didn't even try to close it, just scraped it all on the plate. Way too much sauce, too sweet, couldn't even taste the brisket (I think it was brisket). The top part of this meal was the smashed fries, something I would have again. Well if I venture back over that way, just might give a steak a try.

Don't go here with a large group! They assure you they can handle it, but cannot. Our very large group called in the day before, was assured they could accommodate a large group but after waiting an hour and forty-five minutes, losing a lot of our party, and hearing many excuses we were eventually seated at different tables in different server sections. My favorite excuse was from the hostess that said, while she stood next to the reservation phone number sign."We don't really take reservations" . I agree with previous Yelp reviews in regard to the food. The steak was fantastic... don't eat the rest of the food! The menu is entirely too big for this place to keep the sides fresh.

We recently moved out to Cheyenne a couple weeks ago and decided to check out Steamboat's. The first thing I noticed is the tables that were provided close to the bar area were a little cramped. I constantly had people trying to get to the bar behind me or yelling over me to other people at the bar. I would recommend taking out those tables or make a place for people to hit the bar away from those tables. The second thing I noticed was the service was exceptionally slow. I will admit they were a little busy but our waitress didn't seem to have any sense of urgency when it came to taking our order or getting thing the things we needed. I will say however, that the food was fantastic for the price. I ordered the cajun spiced steak with potatoes. This is a higher priced steakhouse compared to most but the food is worth it. If they improve their staff performance and the seating, I'd give them 5 stars.

I have ate here a number of times. I enjoy the food. The prime rib melt and BLT are my favorites, although I have tried a lot on their menu. I did have a bad experience one time with the bacon being undercooked. I heard 2 tables around me complaining. I think they had a new cook? Or other staff issue in the back? Regardless, we had an appetizer that was a lot bigger and we didn't leave hungry. I felt bad because they were clearly stressed from an off night, and I didn't complain. That being said, it was a little while before I returned. I have been back since and it was back to it's usual pleasing food. I highly recommend this place. Whenever I have someone in town visiting, I usually take them here, and it hasn't disappointed yet. I will be back.

Went here with a group of friends, we all enjoyed it. It's CFD week so everything is always packed and you'll have to wait anywhere ya go. But they were pretty quick, we say at the bar until our table was ready. I ordered a vodka redbull wish they would had have sugar free but not a big deal. Dinner was delicious, we all got a variety of things salads, chicken fried steak, steak, sandwich, burger, and not one complaint. Only thing I didn't like was the margarita pure mixer, I enjoy the tequila not the sour mix. Waitress and staff was friendly. Overall very satisfied and recommend this place over most the restaurants in Cheyenne.

Have eaten here on numerous occasions and can safely say that you should expect a mediocre to decent meal at any given time depending on what you order. If you go for breakfast, expect it to be on the mediocre end of the scale.. Cold food, uncooked hashbrowns (pretty sure these are supposed to be crispy and delicious, not have the consistency of cake..) I'm awarding two stars here. One star for the bloody Mary's which are indeed excellent, and another for the guacamole. Overall a rather huge disappointment. The success of this restaurant can be attributed to two things. 1. The lack of decent competition in the city of cheyenne and 2. The low expectations of quality from the citizens of cheyenne. In any major city this would be a failure, but to the steak and potatoes residents of cheyenne...well you get the point.

When this restaurant first opened, it was fantastic and quickly became my #1. Unfortunately, the budget cuts in order to make more profit has led to mediocre quality of food at unreasonable prices. I had a party of 8 once and we waited for over an hour, because the staff could not figure out how to move a table next to a booth. The desert menu has also changed from unique homemade deserts to average quality, pre-made deserts that are probably bought. After 10 visits to this restaurant, only 3 were acceptable.

The food was above par and the service was on time. However, the menu seemed to aim at chain restaurants. I enjoyed the unusual "rocky Mountain oysters" as an appetizer. The demiglace offered with the ribeye was very tasty. Overall, worth a stop if you are in Cheyenne and looking for something other than a chain restaurant experience.

Horrible horrible service everytime I go to th is place!! The food doesn't make it worth it when the service is slow and crappy. I really don't think it should take an hour and a half plus for sandwiches!!!

Had the flat iron chopped sirloin steak, didn't know it was going to be hamburger meat. Service was slow and they didn't even have A1 sauce for a steakhouse. The local brews were good though, but you can't really go wrong with those. My mom ordered the Shrimp Diablo which was mediocre at best.

  • Jill M.

The atmosphere is really nice, and they do things a little differently than other restaurants, so I would say it's worth eating here. It's not a place that I'm likely to return to over and over again. The service was a bit lacking the night we visited, and I just felt it was missing the "wow factor".

Even though a Cheyenne area local, we get a limited number of opportunities to dine out in town. We were pleased when Steamboat's opened up and had a few decent meals there ... BUT the overall experience has been very uneven for food and service. Some visits, pretty good. Others, like today ... awful. We arrived in the mid-afternoon to a very uncrowded, more than half-empty restaurant with a fair number of waitstaff present. Promptly seated in the main dining area, beverages brought reasonably quickly. But then we waited awhile to place our order. All we wanted was something to tide us over to a later dinner engagement, so ordered two appetizers ... wings and stuffed potatoes (with pulled pork). And waited and waited for the kitchen to harvest the potatoes or finish the pork roast or something ... Because we watched other tables seated after we'd ordered get their salads and steaks and appetizers while ours didn't appear. Our waitress checked with us once, but only to refill beverages. Well over a half-hour later, our platters arrived. Chicken wings were pretty much standard fare, OK. But the stuffed potatoes were cooked to a brittle hard consistency. You couldn't cut them with the table knife, and the scooped out potato halves were well beyond chewy in texture. Hungry and now running much later than expected ... over an hour in the restaurant, we wound up eating them with our fingers rather than cutting them with a knife and fork. Fortunately, the potatoes weren't burned to a crisp or burned tasting. When finished, we sat around looking for our waitress. Nowhere to be seen and everybody else was just blazing past our table, rushing about to ... well, we're not sure. The place was still relatively empty, maybe just 1/2 the tables seated by then. We watched other folk who'd been seated after us finish their meals, pay, and leave. Meanwhile, we waited for our waitress to appear. She finally stopped by with our tab and a tray of beverages for other tables. We gave her our CC, and she said she'd get that run right away. Well, we watched her stop at 3 other tables to drop off the beverages, and then set the tray down (with our mug containing the tab and CC) on a vacant top and proceed to take the order at a 4-place top. Only the folk needed a Wiki description of each of the dishes, so between the descriptions and the ordering, it took a long time. We watched another 4-place table that had arrived after us, had full meals ... depart. My wife was fuming, there was our CC and tab not 20' or so away from us, not headed to be processed; wife just about ready to retrieve the tab and hand it in at the front counter. The waitress left the tray on the table and headed to another table; yet a few minutes later, she came back and retrieved the tray with our tab. All in all, about 20 minutes elapsed between handing her the CC and getting our tab back ... and that was after waiting almost 10 minutes for our tab at the end of the meal. My wife, who worked tables during her college years and knows the trade ... commented that "this isn't right. I'll pay the tip". At 10%, she was far more generous than I'd have been ... but then she's been there when I've left 50 cent tips for a similar performance. Cr*p service is Cr*p on top of a pi** poor kitchen product. I don't know if it was the kitchen or the server's fault for our meals to arrive so slowly, but I do believe the server should have spotted something amiss when her tables that came in and ordered after us were eating and we were still waiting for any food to appear. The food prep quality ... well, that's the kitchen's fault, not the server's. So, here's my assessment of this place, after 10 meals there (mostly dinners) ... it's very uneven in food prep and service, about 50/50 on good meals/service and not-so-good meals/service. Eat there at your own risk of being disappointed as we have repeatedly been, and be thankfully surprised if they do put it all together properly. For me, it will be a long time before I'll go back there ... I can count on a better meal and prompt service at a number of other restaurants in Cheyenne for far less money if I'm willing to forgo the atmosphere and perception of a higher order dining experience at Steamboat's.

I was there twice last week. The first time just for cocktails, and I had the Huckleberry Margarita. I'm not big on sweet drinks and usually stick to martinis or gibsons. 'This was delightful for a very hot afternoon. $6 a fair price for the drink and didn't disappoint. Last night we went with another set of friends and all of us had a wonderful dinner. The servers were attentive even with the place bring packed. This time I had the Peach Margarita and it was a home run! Not too sweet. We all had different entrees. I had the prime rib, ordered it extra rare....it was more medium rare which was disappointing, yet the flavor was right on and very tender. Their chicken penne looked great, the veggies were wonderful and the Wedge Salad was totally yummy, traditional bleu cheese and even had real bacon on it. Gets my vote!

Very good and very busy be prepared for a wait even at 5:00 - but it is worth it. There is something for everyone on the menu. Portions are large without being overwhelming. The wait staff was wonderful; the waitress was perceptive enough to know from my credit card that I was military and gave me a discount. This makes this place special in my book.

Pretty disappointed with the service, it was slow and uncaring. Food was mediocre and served tepid, result of the slow service. Might give them another try, maybe it was a bad night.

Really pretty solid food, great front of the house service, but a really poorly organized/managed kitchen is what sums up this place. We came here on the last night of our road trip through the American West and it was pretty packed, so much so that we had to sit at the bar, which was no big deal for us. The bartender was very nice and poured some fairly generous drinks that weren't outrageously expensive. Left me very satisfied. The problem came with the massive wait we then had for our entrees. The (one) bartender (in the entire place) was crazy busy and clearly leaning on someone from the bus staff to let her know when the food was ready. The never really happened and our food came out pretty tepid. This was resolved, but with another wait. I had a barbecue and onion straw burger that I upgraded to the bison which I was quite happy with, a nice earthy flavor to the burger and it was perfectly cooked. Hopefully they can figure out their kitchen organization a little better (or hire another bartender) and they'd be a really solid place to go.

Excellent staff made for an exceptional experience. We were passing through Cheyenne on our drive from San Francisco to Chicago. We were starving and with two dogs in tow, we were having trouble finding a place with patio seating that would accommodate us. It was 80 degrees out so we couldn't leave them in the car. When we arrived, the hostess was immediately accommodating. She took us out to the patio and lead us to a table that was shaded for the dogs. We had a dog bowl with us and she filled it with ice water for them. After we were seated, we met our server Thomas. Right off the bat, he was super friendly and attentive. We asked about the popular menu items and he offered a ton of recommendations complete with his personal favorites. We had a few questions about the local fare, most notably the Rocky Mountain oysters, and Thomas did his best to put us at ease. After a lot of discussion, we ended up ordering the oysters and two huge steaks. All in all it was a great experience!

Left a bag with over $200 in cash at the place after dinner (because the food was so good my friend and I kind of just hovered out walking on clouds and talking about how delicious the steak was) and when I picked it up the next morning every single cent was still there. So yeah, 4 stars for the food, that last one for the service. Note: Sundays are not the best days to visit this place as they get a fresh delivery on Monday. It's still great, but they run out of their most popular items because they were super duper busy with every table filled. It's probably because as far as I can tell they're the best restaurant in Cheyenne.

  • Brandon K.

I am the least picky, most easy to please person in the world but I will never go back here again. The place is tiny so there were a ton of people right next to our table. They sat us and then told us that they needed to move us after we were all settled down. The menu was nothing impressive, and the food was alright. Just overall a bad experience.

It was a good dinner at a fair price. Service could have been better but it certainly could have been worse. Wanted to try the ribs but they were out and we were there at 6 pm on a Saturday night. Guess that means the ribs are really good or that they didn't plan very well.

New restaurant, so the decor was new. We were seated promptly by the kitchen. The waitress was nice, however she couldn't pick up on non-verbal cues from us that we wanted her to order, not tell us her life story or give my brother grief for being indecisive about what he wanted to order. The food was average, however the chili with the beer in it was downright awful, I would pass on that. I had a chicken breast sandwich called the Steamboat, which was pretty good. The fried cheesecake was too watery once it was fried. The manager came by to ask us how our lunch was. He somehow figured out that my brother and I were in the military so he gave us a 10% discount, which was awesome. Overall it's an okay place, a change from the standard Chili's, Applebees, etc. However there are better places in town like Poor Richards, The Albany, Sanford's if that's the kind of food and atmosphere you're wanting.

Finally, a great steakhouse in cheyenne that isn't a chain. Ribs got some kick, but are great. Steak was tender and delicious. I will be going back, soon!

It looks like an Applebees type place. The waitresses act like Applebees waitresses, so I was expecting mass produced food like Applebees. Was I shocked when I had some awesome barbecue show up in front of me. Deliciously smoked juicy and flavorful.

The family and I stopped by on Saturday for dinner. Being a new restaurant in Cheyenne means long wait times to get in... no problem, it was to be expected. Even with how busy they were, we were seated by a very pleasant hostess and our waitress was exceptionally nice and attentive. We were surprised as to just how inexpensive the entrees were... along the same lines as an Outback or a Chili's. The similarities don't stop there. The food was neither terrible, or great. It was 'average'. It's nice to have a hometown steakhouse, and I will surely choose to eat here over the multitude of chain restaurants this town offers, but I had high hopes that it would be better.

I really love this restaurant and their menu, they have friendly staff and pretty good service. Cheyenne needs more restaurants like these!! Only reason I gave them four instead if five stars is because the place is SO small and cramped almost. For the amount of traffic they get, they really need a bigger place!! I find it a bit annoying that they have so few tables, and that it can get so loud inside when they are really busy. :(

After being on the road for 5 days, eating in restaurants for 5 days straight, it was nice to stop in Cheyenne for a good steak dinner on my way back to Colorado. Although the hostess said there would be a 20 min wait, we were seated within 5. Hannah greeted us promptly and continued to be an efficient, friendly server. We ordered 2 apps, "haystack" and calamari sticks. Both were delicious. My husband and I both ordered steak dinners, both were cooked as ordered. Kids meals were hearty and we all left satisfied. Loved the rustic atmosphere, after all, we were in "cowboy country". I would definitely recommend this place, especially during Frontier Days.

The cornbread biscuits and honey alone are worth the price of entry. There is a decent assortment of sandwiches and I was very happy (despite the judgment in my wife's eyes) when I tried the all you can eat ribs. They have recently offered half priced appetizers and drinks during happy hour which cannot be beat (especially when coupled with Tuesday's 15% military discount). Definitely a place worth checking out when visiting Cheyenne.

  • Blaze L.

Stopped there to get a take out menu, ended up having an appetizer (the mussels). When I sat down, I was greeted BY NAME by the waiter (Thomas) who I haven't seen for months from a different restaurant who now works there! I am in awe of this man; fantastic memory, and excellent service every time. The atmosphere is geared towards a Wyoming theme, and I must admit, it looks a heck of a lot better than when it was Sheri's. The mussels were outstanding, served in a broth made with garlic, spinach, bacon, and with small toasts on the side. I didn't have time for a meal, but it is surely on the list of things to do! Must be a reason the place is packed for dinner!

A gal from. Sierra Trading Post sent me while coming thru town. This place rocks, sat at bar. Dark Steamboat micro brew was as god as any. Asked bartender to recommend the best cut for the night. The baseball cut was perfect med rare and tasty. Beef is all aged. White Chili melts in your mouth as do beans with dinner. Great fund and will be back

I've been to Steamboats twice, one just a few weeks after they opened, and made another visit two weeks ago for an anniversary dinner. First annoyance was sitting and watching the table we ended up being sat at, sit empty for probably twenty minutes before eventually being sat. What gives? The service had always been excellent, and the little cornbread muffins are delicious. We tried the guacamole the first time we went and it was perfect. The second time we went it was mediocre at best. First time I went my boyfriend got the meatloaf sandwich and I got the black bean sandwich. Mine was super underwhelming, plain, boring, and had to ask for three of the four listed topping?? Meatloaf sandwich was "good" but nothing impressive according to my boyfriend. Second time I went I had the coconut shrimp, wedge salad, and mixed veggies. My boyfriend had a burger. My shrimp were over-cooked to the point the edges were just starting to burn, the wedge salad had delicious croutons, but the salad itself was very bruised and wilted. Mixed veggies were undercooked and drenched in butter. The burger looked good, but also got an "ok" review. I think all In all the food is ok, nothing super special, but the service is excellent. I guess unless you get a steak, or some kind of smoked meat they don't put much love and care into preparing a quality meal. Will most likely be back for drinks and apps, but not dinner.

  • Katie W.

Service was extremely slow, manager did not seem to care about guest satisfaction. The food was below average at best. The "wet" brisket was some of the most dry meat I have ever had. The salad was old and the fresh vegetables were burnt to a crisp. It took more than 45 minutes just to get the check. The only saving grace is the beer list.

  • C K.

I bet it is good. I have heard it is good. If you can get in, that is. They took a small restaurant to begin with and cut it in half for a bar. Not smart. I have tried to go three times. Each time the wait the hostess gave me was doubled before I left. With that said, it is a new joint in Cheyenne and the locals here migrate to a new restaurant like moths to a light. Maybe one day I will try it for myself.

This place is awesome i am hooked and frequent on a weekly basis there still working out some kinks obviously but please trust me its most definitely going to be the best thing to happen to Wyoming dining in a very long time!! A must if you're in Cheyenne!

Nice place. Friendly staff. They were out of mac and cheese but I hear it's great. My steak was done a little more than med rare but was seasoned well and had great flavor. Our service was wonderful. We will be back. Tip: seating is a little tight, I would recommend a party of no more than 4 unless they aren't busy.

  • Amy M.

We have been to this restaurant a few times, with adults only and with our kids. The service is fair and the food is great! It is small so there is usually a wait. I am surprised to see that they usually have a number of parties waiting for 20 min or more when they have multiple clean and empty tables. It looks like they may need to consider additional staffing. Other than that we really enjoy this restaurant and find the food items to be tasty.

    (4)
  • Kyle P.

They have a interesting menu but the food is often hit-or-miss, much like their service. Sometimes the service is ok, other times it takes 30 minutes to get a beer, even when the restaurant isn't even close to being full. Their servers don't seem to be very well coordinated with their bar or kitchen. If you order an appetizer, about half the time they send out your entree immediately after (within a minute or so). I was hoping that they would work out the hiccups since they were a new restaurant, but so far they haven't so I won't be coming back. Their servers and management just don't seem to care at all.

We had the mixed experience of one good dish and one nearly inedible one. Coupled with the 30 minute wait even at early lunch, I am not sure its worth it.

Awesome!! Super friendly service, amazing cornbread muffins, and an absolutely delicious pulled pork sandwich! I am super happy to have found a place in Cheyenne as good as this. I will definitely be back on my next trip up!!

So I know you've been waiting to see what we found in Wyoming yesterday. You impatient crazies. that's okay, we love you for it. This is called the "Daddy of them all" bloody mary and it's made with a blend of vodka AND gin, their own made from scratch bloody mary mix and garnished with (takes deep breath) a cheeseburger slider, a kebab with fiery kielbasa, peperoncini, blue cheese stuffed olives, a bacon wrapped pickle and an asparagus spear. Whew! If you find yourself in Cheyenne, stop into Steamboat's and get yourself one. Not that you'll be hungry afterward, but the rest of the menu is just as amazing.

Horrible food and service. Waitress did not give us her name Long wait for food I ordered sirloin tips with porter cream sauce With mashed potatoes. It came with rice instead of the mashed. The sirloin tips were 1/4" by 1/4" in size very small not normal. The sauce was very salty, it tasted like a hamburger helper with with bad sirloin tips in it. My friend ordered the baseball cut sirloin with mashed potatoes med well. The waitress asked how the steak was before he even had time to start eating it. The steak was med rare and potatoes were in a pool of butter. The waitress never asked how the food was, She should have asked my friend, especially when he only ate a 1/4 of the steak and never touched the potatoes. She stood over us waiting for the money while paying the checks. This was a Friday night! Maybe too busy!

The restaurant gets better everytime I eat here. I tried the chicken fried steak with cowboy beans and garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken fried steak was hand breaded and tender. Cowboy beans were a delicious twist on traditional baked beans. Garlic mashed potatoes had a hint of garlic which gave them just enough flavor. Also had a caesar side salad which also came with the meal. Lettuce was crisp romaine tossed lightly in caesar dressing topped with parmesan cheese and croutons. Our waiter was awesome. Refilled drinks without even having to ask. In my book that goes a long way. They give you complementary cornbread muffins and butter. Tasted fresh out of the oven. We tried one of the appetizers breaded shrooms. They were perfect size and also hand battered. Interesting dipping sauce called vedauwoo sauce. This visit was awesome!!

Trying this place out for breakfast to be pleasantly surprised. The staff from the hostess to the waitress to the busboy was friendly and courteous. the service was fast and the food was fresh, hot, and very delicious. I enjoyed every bite of my meal which consisted of their Country Benedict. The hash browns very cooked to a perfect crunchy golden brown, all the other components of my meal made my taste buds sing with delight as I took in every forkful. definably one of the better restaurants in the Cheyenne area.

The food is ok I love their side salad with chex instead of croutons. But they are inconsistent. The door hours vs actual hours varies. On Saturdays they serve breakfast. I saw they had prime rib. It looks good but one day they will bring it out with au jus and other days they will bring it out without it. When I ask for some the server's answer was that they didn't make any that day. That would be great to know before ordering.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this place. It's a local business with lots of national chains in the area. Great local beer selection on tap. I absolutely loved my wedge salad, the use of real bacon and steak. Always enjoy having fresh guacamole made in front of me. Also they had plenty of TVs on so you can catch sports. If your in the area definitely stop in for a meal.

Loved everything about this restaurant. Found it by searching on Yelp. The atmosphere was perfect with decorations, music- modern yet themes to the country, not in a tacky way. Very clean. Our food was absolutely delicious, best steak any of my family ever had. My son tried the buffalo steak, every steak was delicious! Our server Jim went beyond and was constantly ready to get us anything we wanted.

Food was good, but service was not good. Both meals ordered were brought out wrong. Weren't offered any compensation for the screw up. Very disappointed in the way it was all handled. So at lunch about a 1/2 hour longer than we should have.

I went to Steamboat's for the first time today and not only was the service great, but the food was amazing! Our server was Jim and he was awesome! He was always making sure our drinks were topped off and that we had fresh corn bread on our table. I got the Old Faithful sandwich, which came with a side of Mac and Cheese...It was delicious! I will definitely be coming back. Next time I want to go on the weekend when they serve breakfast!!

Stay away from the fried steak and pot roast sandwich. Beans and mashed potatoes were terrible. I wouldn't feed this crap to a bum

Our server Jaime was awesome! He was very friendly and had great recommendations! The crab stuffed mushrooms were delicious as was the brisket and the rosemary fries! We come here often and will continue to keep coming back! Next time we will ask for Jaime to be our server!

What a disappointment! We went there based on other reviews and they did not live up to the hype. I had the Chicken Fried Steak. There was more breading than steak and it was extremely dry. It ended up going home to my dogs. My wife's order was botched and the wait staff was less than helpful.

It was a nice change from the chain steakhouses. I was in the mood for a steak after a few days of Turkey leftovers. Enter trusty Yelp Ap! Their menu is a bit of a cross between Outback and Texas Roadhouse. I also noticed some items that would not be at either of the 2 places mentioned. I found myself a small steak and at a reasonable price. They start you with Corn Muffins. These were very good and certainly moist. Next came the salad, I had the Lettuce wedge and John had the House Salad. Both salads were fresh and of good size and portion. We though the Chex on the house salad was just fun. Then our steaks came, both were cooked just as ordered. The nice surprise was the large portion of onion strings that came with the steak. I wasn't aware of this when I ordered but it certainly was nice. Overall it was a great lunch experience. Ah yes, they also have a lunch menu. Give it a try if you're in the area

MOST EXCELLENT SERVICE EVER!!! To put it simply, the steaks were to die for, our beers were cheap, free birthday shots on the house, and our server Trey gave us the utmost respect and incredible service we've had. Everyone agreed that he was one of, if not THE, best server we've ever had. It's always nice being treated as family at a delicious restaurant, and we got that experience and more. Thanks again Trey for more than we asked for or expected!

The food was good, I was not disappointed; Good value; The service was good and attentive (Trey), no issues or complaints; Here is where I have an issue ... we were in a hurry (to get to a movie), literally as our food was coming out of the kitchen to be served, the server (not Trey) dropped the tray and sent our food crashing to the floor; We then had to wait an additional 15-20 mins to have our food re-prepared; While our server was very apologetic and attentive; There was NO attempt by restaurant management to try and make up for the time and inconvenience; I realize accidents happen but that's not the issue, it's the response (or the lack thereof) that made it such a negative experience ... and NO we did not make it to our movie on-time!

Visited on recommendation of locals, and not disappointed. Had the brisket which looked more like beef tips but were very tender and delicious. Nice sweet and sassy BBQ suace. Young server but very attentive. Not planning to visit Cheyenne again but would return if I did.

Great food and good selection of beer on tap. I would recommend the BBQ bacon wrapped shrimp served over breaded onion strips as an appetizer....amazing!!! Steaks are great and the pepper jack Mac and cheese is really good.

Stopped in on a Saturday evening. Place was packed but I found an open table in bar area. Waitress was super helpful and friendly. Recommended the chicken huckleberry salad and it was very delicious! I wanted to get in and out very quickly and have a delicious meal. This all was accomplished. Very satisfied with meal! Purchased some similar dressing from a store to try to recreate the salad.

We had friends that would talk us out of coming here while we are working in Chyenne. I mean come on it's CHEYENNE are you really expecting an amazing meal!? We weren't! BUT we got one! I wish we had one of these in FOCO. I believe our servers name was Jesse. (Im sorry if it wasn't lol!) But, for me to even remember this from a month ago means we had killer service. Don't mind the stupid reviews. TRY them.

Everything was outstanding! Cornbread melts in your mouth, and I don't usually care for cornbread. Staff was very polite and courteous. If you order the Daddy Bloody Mary, don't order food. It's huge. Mountain Oysters were fried perfectly. Best food we've had in a long time!

We were passing through Cheyenne and looking for a nice dinner and so decided on Steamboat Steakhouse based on reviews. Overall our experience was okay, but I was expecting a bit better. We arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night without a reservation and so expected to wait for a table. We left our name with the hostess and went to the bar to order a drink. The bar was great, they have an awesome selection of beers and all are very inexpensive ($4). Our table ended up being read less than 10 minutes later so we took our drinks with us to the table. We talked to our waiter a little about his recommendations. He recommended the cajun marinated ribeye. We're not the type to cover up our steak with other flavors so we elected to pass. We ordered: Buffalo Ribeye (12 oz) Hickory grilled, WYO tradition leaner than traditional ribeye. (ordered rare) Gun Barrel Top Sirloin (10 oz) Traditional thick cut, hickory grilled. (ordered medium rare) Along with that with house salads, fresh veggies for my wife and cowboy beans for me. I also elected to get a bowl of the rodeo red chili) Our waiter confirmed our "doneness" selections for our steaks, and we agreed. The salads were fine, nothing amazing but adequate, though strangely they came topped with chex mix instead of croutons. The wait for our steaks was a bit on the long side, though the restaurant was busy. I also had requested my chili to come out before my steak, and the waiter forgot, so it came out with the steaks. The chili was a high point, well seasoned and pleasantly spicy. If I came back I'd likely order a big bowl of it and call it a night. The beans were also forgettable. didn't taste much better then out of a can, and came a bit on the cold side. Overall our steaks were on the disappointing side, both came out over cooked (the buffalo at least medium, and my sirloin was medium well) and were tough because of it. We debated about sending them back, but didn't want to wait for the re-fire, being tired after a long day of traveling. For the price I was expecting a bit better, though I'll admit I have high standards with steaks. I think Steamboat is a bit over hyped (though I may be a bit spoiled from the "big cities").

I had lunch here, the free cornbread is delicious. We had fresh guacamole and chips which was awesome. Then had a buffalo burger for my main course which was awesome. I recommend their white chili it is very good.

This place is good but a bit pricey for the quantity and quality of food. $60.00 for two meals seems a bit much. There is a Texas Roadhouse just down the street less than a block were the food is better and so are the prices.

One of the better places to eat in Cheyenne. Unique menu, large portions, food is above average and the pastries are fantastic. A little pricey but probably worth it. Clean and a nice atmosphere.

  • Todd S.

As a steak house it is average at best. However the guacamole and fried mushrooms are some of the best I have ever had. The atmosphere has a total Wyoming ranch house feel which I like. The wait staff is always pleasant. Although can be a bit on the slow side.

I'm sorry to report that I had a very disappointing night at Steamboat Steak & Smoke House. The restaurant itself seems pretty cool - like an oversized Wyoming hunting lodge. Unfortunately, the decor was the highlight of the evening. The food at Steamboat was fine, but definitely underwhelming for steakhouse prices. As I ate I just kept thinking, "I could have had a better steak next door at Texas Roadhouse at half the price." Nothing about the food was bad, but nothing about the food was particularly good either. It was just plain forgettable, and that's disappointing. The price is far too much for mediocre food. Forgettable food alone, though, would not account for two stars. What really tanked the night for me was extremely poor service. Our server was either disinterested, lazy, or just plain dumb. From the outset he messed up our salad orders (despite having written them down). We noticed that he did the exact same thing with the table next to ours, and then proceeded to passive-aggressively argue with the diners rather than just fix the problem. Server - "Here's your salad with Italian dressing..." Diner - "I don't think that's mine, I ordered Blue Cheese." Server - "Are you sure, because this one has Italian." Diner's companions - "Yeah, he ordered Blue Cheese." Server - "Well, I mean, if this one isn't good enough for you I can take it back and..." Diner - "I guess this is alright..." It went something like that - what a bonehead. After having messed up our salad order, our steaks arrived and both of them were also mis-cooked. I don't blame this on the kitchen, though, because they both were cooked according to the pin in the steak. Clearly the server put them in wrong, and the kitchen cooked them according to his specifications (rather than, you know, the specifications of the people paying for dinner). Throughout our evening, other than when he was screwing up everything that we ordered, the server was basically non-existent. He didn't bother to check in with us until we were nearly done, walking by without even glancing our way, and as such we sat through most of the meal with empty glasses and nothing to drink. Maybe this was an off-night for Steamboat, I don't know, but I wouldn't be willing to shell out steakhouse money for such a mediocre dining experience again. No thanks Steamboat.

I thought I would try this place out new and exciting. The new is still in progress the fries were cold and the grease on them just made them in edible. The best part was the drinks lemonade endless. The brisket with the bourbon sauce was alright, I would try something else before I had that again. The corn muffins were good. The deep fried cheese cake was the best of the meal a share dessert it is quite large . We will have to come back for dinner one day to test out the steaks.

I've been here three times hoping that they were having an off day when we were there. No such luck. Probably my least favorite restaurant in town. The only saving grace is their side salad and ranch. Pretty sad. Not worth the money you pay by any means...

Ended up here because we were looking for a local place to eat a dinner after a late arrival in Cheyenne. We tried a place near our hotel, which turned out they had just closed and we asked for a recommendation to another local eatery that didn't close before 10pm. The manager (possibly owner?) of Sanford's Grub n Pub recommended Steamboats. When we arrived at Steamboats, the hostess was cheerful and friendly and sat us right away in the bar area which we had no issue with since it was almost 10pm and they were closing down their dining room area. Our waitress was with us within a few minutes of being seated and was friendly and attentive. The manager of the Sanford's had called over to Steamboats to have them comp us an appetizer for our trouble, which was really awesome considering. We orders the chips and guacamole, which the make right at the table for you. There were a lot of options on the menu that all looked really good. I chose the Barn Burner sandwich with spicy kielbasa, BBQ pulled pork, and cheese. It was really good. My husband had The Pokey- a Monte Christo style sandwich filled with pulled pork and mac n cheese and said it was delicious. They have a nice selection of beers on tap including some Wyoming based brews. I I tried the Snake River Pale Ale, which I liked. Even better, it was only $2 for a pint. Next time I'm in Cheyenne, I would definitely consider coming back to Steamboats for lunch or dinner.

When we walked in, the host was on the phone taking a personal call. I tried the recommendation from the waitress of the fish which was not good at all. My husband's steak was tasteless. The bloody Mary was the highlight of the visit. We most likely will not go there again.

Was pleasantly surprised with the experience here. There's no doubt (even though it's a stand alone restaurant) it functions like a Texas Roundhouse, Roadhouse Grill type chain and offers the same atmosphere and quality of food. Meanwhile, the Steamboat Steakhouse has far more local character and much better service. I sat in a booth at the bar and enjoyed excellent service and a waitress who was extremely knowledgeable of the entire menu and very attentive. The bar has ample TV which make it a great place to watch games. And, beers on tap keep visitors here longer than many chains. Prior to the main course every table gets sweets, namely a cornbread looking pastry, per say, that's sweet and made with half cake and half cornbread mix. I ordered the Sauteed Walleye Almondine and was surprised with the slab of walleye they give you. There's a lot of value here! The yellow rice compliments the walleye well and comes with overly butter veggies. The walleye tasted great and didn't carry any fishy taste. Good stuff.

The hostesses were behind the counter not working to seat people in the bar, so we asked if we could seat ourselves there. We were told they had to seat us. As they stood at their station 2 other parties walked in and sat themselves in the empty tables. I ordered a small prime rib. Our waitress didn't mention the special was smoked that day. It tasted nothing like prime rib at all, like chewing smoke.

Me and my wife decided to order take out for the first time from steamboats tonight. First off the lady told us everything would be ready in 15-20 mins. So I got there after 20 mins and ended up standing there for another 25 minutes in the middle of the bar looking crazy. Finally I got my order and they said they didn't have any corn muffins for me. I said screw it and left because I had already been waiting forever on a MONDAY night!. Got back home and the food was absolutely mediocre and half of it was just plain ole disgusting. Chicken fried steak was bland and average. Queso was the most horrific queso I have ever had in my life. I've had better at taco johns. Chips were hard as a brick. Guacamole had no flavor. Everything else was just basic food I could have made better myself. They gave up some sort of sauce I uploaded the picture and when me and my wife tasted it with our finger we projectile vomited on our hardwood floors. Will never return to this place. The only reason I gave it 1 star is because I have too.. In actuality they owe me stars!!!

Our portions were huge, and the food was delicious. But the service was spectacular! Our waiter was very attentive, and the hostess came over to check out drinks several times too! I can't remember the last time we had such good service at a restaurant!!

Fantastic!! Our waitress Tory was super awesome and so friendly. She took the time to make sure we were taken care of and made us feel at home. She even gave us a little history of Cheyenne. The food was great. We are from Alabama so my son and I had to try Rocky Mountain Oysters which actually taste like country fried steak. Good stuff, but my wife could not get past what they really are. My son had the ribs which did not disappoint. My wife had the chopped Huckleberry salad and I had the Red Dessert Steak salad. So good. The Tuscan Herb dressing is unusually good....like a homemade Italian dressing.

Meh. My Mom said her trout was 5 stars, my steak was 3, and the service a 1. We got our appetizer the same time as our meal, and they never brought our house salads. The appetizer was the Roosevelt Mussels, and they were actually really tasty, but if I was a local, I wouldn't waste my time coming back here because of the service and the fact that a steak at a steakhouse was just ok at best.

New place in Cheyenne. They're still working out the kinks with the staff. There were about 16 people waiting to be seated (and told it would be a 30-45 minute wait) but during the whole wait there were 3 empty 4-person tables, 2 empty 5-person booths, and 2 empty 2-person tables. Yet, we all waited...for something...to be seated. The food was good and worth the moderate price. The free cornbread muffins are delicious and kind of taste like cake. Seriously...they're that good. We had a loaded baked potato (no complaints), 12 oz ribeye (delicious, cooked and seasoned perfectly), wedge salad (nothing spectacular but still good) and the Hoeback Tenderloin salad (great variety of flavors). Oh, we also had a house salad...that had Chex cereal on it for croutons. Yes, you read that correctly...Chex. We all joked that they alternate between Chex, Cherrios, Cinnamon Life, and Lucky Charms as toppings for their house salad throughout the week. C'mon, though it's creative, it doesn't fit the class of restaurant they're selling. Despite a few oddities, I'd go again. Hopefully they have the seating situation figured out by the next time I visit else I doubt I'll deal with that frustration again.

Went to Steamboats for breakfast this weekend and I was pleasantly surprised! The food was really good, some of the best hash browns I have had in a long time. I had the bread pudding french toast and it was killer! Also the service was great. They were nowhere near as busy as they are at night, which might be the reason for the good serivce.

Of the three steaks non were cooked to order. The two medium orders were cooked medium well and the medium-well order was cooked medium. If a steakhouse can't get one steak cooked to order that's a bad sign. Ribs were good. Nice selection of beers on tap. Service overall was pretty good.

Ahhhh....a local steakhouse that cares about its reputation. The baseball cut sirloin was lovely...and the price was good. Wedge salad is just what you want if you like a wedge...and I do. They were a little slow in seating us; I think they forgot is for a bit...But dinner was worth the wait. We'll be back!

Well we decided to go back to steamboats for a 2nd time because the food is good but this time me and my husband are very unimpressed however they were not very busy we were sat quickly well we sat and sat and finally 11:44 mins later the waitress finally mozied her slow ass over to our table her reply when I asked her what took so long she said she was with a customer yeah bullshitting for 11 mins! Wtf we called the manager told him as well we will NOT be coming back!

My son recently discovered that he loves steak. As such, we have been enjoying going to the restaurants around town to find the best ones. The steaks here are nice cuts and (usually) cooked to perfection. I prefer medium-rare while he opts for medium. Most of the time, they get it right. Other times, they are both cooked to the same temp. This is fine for me as I will eat any steak that is placed in front of me, but he will not eat a steak that is on the redder-side of pink. He still says, though, that this place has the best steaks apart from the ones we grill at home. I agree with him. Service is a crap-shoot, though. We have sometimes been sat at a booth and have waited over 15 minutes before drinks were even offered. I can understand a long wait time when the restaurant is busy, but when you see servers standing around and gossiping when there are only 3 tables sat while you are waiting to be noticed, it's frustrating. The managers always make it right, though. I am also a big fan of their happy hour. We have made a meal of half-price appetizers and drinks for a very reasonable price! Their Wyoming Mules are served in a copper mug and are quite tasty. My favorite is the mango. I'll continue to frequent this place while management still cares for their customers to return. I may grill a better steak, but at least I don't have to do the dishes when we come here!

We were traveling through and wanted some local food. Burgers are great and would recommend the smash fries. Careful on the wedge salad - get the blue cheese and vinaigrette on the side unless you like heavy portions. Sirloin was a little tough and entrees took a bit of time to make it to our table. If you like a wide variety of craft and micro brews you will not be disappointed!
